We have classified the 35 complaints from 2007 Honda Civic about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
3rd gear in my 2007 honda civic si is hard to shift into. sometimes the gear pops out of 3rd. this issue has occurred since i've purchased it out the lot brand new. i've made quite a few complaints to the dealership but none have responded to this issue. *tr
Purchased car new, complained about transmission grinding in 2nd and 3rd gear at appx 2k miles, at 5k they tore it down, problem continued, tore down again at10k, then continued. 3rd repair at 12k i was charged 1700. to fix, they claimed misuse, 4th repair at 15k costs me 2200, again misuse, and problem seems fixed, but only at 16k. honda service bulletin 08-020 released 4/12/2008 addresses this exact problem and states is covered under warranty. i am perusing lemon law procedures currently, but am concerned about safety issue of transmissions blowing and creating a road hazard, oil on road, etc. there is still a huge oil slick on the street when it last broke. *tr
I bought my 2007 honda civic si on 12/29/07 with approximately 2,200 miles on it. from day one third gear would grind on occasion. on 4/2/08 after having the car 90 days i noticed the clutch slipping. the very next day i left home to go to the honda dealer to have it checked and didn't make it there. my clutch burnt out. honda has torn down the transmission and blamed me for "misuse". honda america has declined any help towards payment. they want $1,400 for a new clutch. i have seen so many people with the same problems as i have had and i think it's about time honda did the right thing for their owners. *tr
I purchased a 2007 honda civic 5spd ex in may of 2007. ever since i purchased the car i have been having transmission problems with it. at times when i am in first gear and i upshift to second, as soon as i let off of the clutch it will pop out into neutral and my rpms shoot up. sometimes it will grind when i try to put it into second or third and doesn't want to fully engage. when it does finally go into gear it's real rough and doesn't accelerate at the speed it should, it acts like it doesn't want to go. i have contacted vandergriff honda where it was purchased, and they said that some of the cars have had that problem and they change the transmission fluid and it's suppose to help, but if it doesn't they might have to pull the transmission out and change 2nd and 3rd gear. they changed my fluid and i am still having the same problem. they are telling me now that it should have fixed the problem and i shouldn't be experiencing it anymore. they also say they can't duplicate the problem. go figure! i need my car fixed that is the sole purpose of my new car purchase so i wouldn't have major problems like this!! my car now has 15k on it and still has the same problems! please find a fix soon!! *tr
I purchased this vehicle a few months ago, and recently (within the last few weeks) have noticed the transmission 'slipping' or not engaging properly. if it were a centrifugal clutch (mechanical) it would be described as needing adjustment to let the adjustment 'out' as to better engage the clutch to the power source. since it is a cvt, i have been told that there is no adjustment available, and replacement is necessary. my incident: i was driving home, which takes me through about 33 miles of a winding hilly road. there was a slow driver, holding up about 6-7 cars, of which i was placed next to last (one behind me.) there is a passing lane that was approaching, and when we reached the passing lane, the slow-poke pulled out to let us pass. the slipping of this transmission was almost a killer-as we (all of the trailing cars) sped up to pass (all within appropriate speeds, clearances, etc). i had just started to accelerate, when this !@#$% slipping began, and i watched as the tach went to almost red-line, but the car didn't gain any speed-it stayed at about 35-36 mph, which was the speed we were going when the passing attempt started. this was allegedly a problem in earlier year models of the same vehicle, but i am not sure if the cause was the same. in any case, this is a very dangerous development, and i want it fixed. my car is under warranty, and i will drive it to a honda dealer in the next day or two, but i do not want any trouble getting this problem corrected. also, since the first noticed occurrence, i have noticed that this is occurring almost every time i try to accelerate. sometimes it feels minor, but other times it just tachs up to 4,5,or 6 grand, while not increasing speed at all. i hope no one dies before i can get this to the dealer.....especially my wife, or myself! *tr
The car was fine for first few hundred miles. transmission began to shift will excessive force needed. dealership was advised to change fluid, which seemed to work for very few miles. very difficult to shift into second and third gear. third gear will actually "pop out" at various times. this has caused me to make dangerous maneuvers in and out of traffic. dealership cannot "replicate" problem is the usual excuse. *tr
I own a 2007 honda civic si (manual transmission) and 1 out of every 5 times i shift into 3rd gear it grinds and does not engage properly. in 4000 miles it has also fallen out of gear twice under normal driving conditions. when this happens the car will suddenly slow and i will be distracted while driving as it is quite unexpected on a car with 10,000 miles. i have brought the car to honda and they said this was due to excessive clutch wear caused by "driving the car too hard". i drive about 50 miles a week in dc metro area traffic so this is hardly the case. most owners of the same car and transmission are reporting the same problem and honda has not done anything to remedy it. it is widely covered on most 2006+ honda civic web forums and recently has received some news coverage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ek_-3tfd2e. *tr
This problem relates to the 06-08 civic si's, i have an si) s2000's, rsx's accords and any cars with a honda 6 speed transmissions. this is in regards to grinding and popping out of gears, along with a general "notchy" feel. this primarily happens when the vehicle is cold, however it still does happen when the vehicle is completely warmed up. *tr
2007 honda civic si, complaint is regarding the manual transmissions 3rd gear engagement. at times its engagement may vary from being tight to grinding and may even disengage or (pop out of gear). this may lead to a momentary lapse in concentration and at times a somewhat loss of control of the vehicles driveability when this occurs abruptly and unexpectedly. if this event occurs at an inappropriate time when driving, it is my opinion that it may have the potential to lead to accident's causing injury. *cn
07 civic si shifting into 3rd gear sometimes doesn't happen causing loss of power at bad times as entering intersection or highway makes grinding sound as in missed shift pops out of gear wont let you shift into gear will be going to dealer to have checked out. *tr
I have a 2007 civic si with only 12,000 miles on it. issue: 3rd gear hard to engage. it is an intermittent safety problem. when 3rd gear does not engage i have to go to 2nd or 4th gear, that causes vehicle to slow down during merging. complaint to dealership twice. first time transmission oil replaced but did not fix this issue. 2nd time dealership told me that they cannot duplicate the issue. honda needs to recall all these faulty manual transmissions before someone dies. *tr
I own a standard transmission 2007 civic si. i was stopped at a red light. when the light turned green, i put the transmission into 1st gear and started moving. i then tried to shift from 1st gear into 2nd at approximately 3500 rpm. i had the clutch pedal fully depressed but could not put the transmission into 2nd gear. i put the transmission back into neutral and tried again to shift into 2nd gear. second gear finally engaged but was accompanied with a loud grinding noise. this situation was dangerous because i was in the middle of the intersection with no power. i was focused on trying to figure what was wrong with the car and could not focus on the road. nothing has been done yet to remedy this situation. i am taking my car to my dealership to see what is wrong.*cn
2001 honda civic with 65,000 miles has had transmission problems requiring replacement/repair on 3 different occasions; each time with the same problem...the transmission slips before engaging fully in drive, causing the vehicle to leap forward without pressing the accelerator, creating a dangerous condition. my local honda dealer has repaired or replaced the transmission 3 times, stating this is a chronic problem with automatic transmissions on certain models of honda for 2001. the problem has now recurred at 65,000 miles. the manufacturer is fully aware of the defect which repeatedly manifests itself over the life of this vehicle. the dealer was fully aware the problem was present on the car when i bought it. how long will nhtsa allow the manufacturer to ignore a serious defect and let a potentially dangerous condition continue? judging from the number of complaints listed on your website, the problem is found on a significant number of 2001 hondas equipped with an automatic transmission. since the dealer has not been able to correct the problem, even when replacing the transmission, i believe the manufacturer should recall the vehicle and provide a redesigned transmission to correct the problem. otherwise these vehicles will become more dangerous as they age. *tr
Third gear intermittently does not engage or is very difficult to engage. is especially bad when it is cold out. *tr
(1) normal driving of manual transmission. (2) everyday while accelerating from a stop 3rd gear misses, doesn't lock into gear, or pops out of gear and grinds. as a result, the vehicle is difficult to drive and backs up traffic due to the slow acceleration. *tr
Third gear of this car frequently pops out of gear and grinds getting into that gear. *tr
Excessive problems with transmission. particularly third gear, when attempting to put shift lever into third gear synchronizers grind and on occasion shift lever pops from gear into neutral. *tr
My transmission shoves the shifter out of gear after shifting into 3rd. my transmission also grinds excessively going into second at high rpm's causing bucking. i have spoken to the dealer about this and they seem to believe that there is no problem. i have had it pop out of 3rd traveling up hill, this causing my car to slow without brake lights in traffic (because i am not applying brakes), while i try to get it into third. *tr
My transmission is giving problems when driving my 2007 honda civic si. to be more specific my 3rd gear pops out when it's engaged and it seems dangerous and honda of america has not put out a recall for this. *tr
Transmission for 2007 honda civic si seem to not want to engage 3rd gear especially when cold. multiple occasions. seem to have something blocking the shifter and it will grind the gear or pop out. popping noise from front driver side suspension also have been experience on the vehicle. *tr
Bought a 2007 honda civic in 2007. took car in for maintenance at honda dealership and was advised that i needed new tires, after less than a year. i replaced the tires and there was a vibrating noise and rumble,. took car back to dealership they said that because i got new tires it needed an alignment and the noise would stop. noise never did stop. replaced the tires again about 6 months ago or less and was advised that we neeeded struts, wanted a second opinion so we went to the honda dealership and they said that the controls arms were bad and we needed new tires. this was a week ago. we purchased a $1000 extended warranty with the car. we called the warranty people after having no luck with honda of high point, nc. the warranty compnay said that honda told them that they made the parts wrong. this is a manufacturing defect. even if we are out of our warranty period they should still be liable because they made the part wrong in the begining. had they advised us of the problem over a year ago, we would not have this problem. i ahve been reading several blogs and we are not the only ones having this problem. honda refuses to replace the part. this should be a major recall! i guess if the arms break while we are riding down the highway and we crash and die, then honda will do something about it.
Transmission: shifter sometimes catches (10-15% of attempts) when shifting into 3rd gear. the problem is worse when the weather is cold. the dealer was advised and acknowledged problem but no solution is currently available. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact stated the third gear would fail when the vehicle was cold. in addition, the failure occurred intermittently. the dealer was able to duplicate the failure. they felt the transmission could have caused the failure. the failure mileage was 4,000 and current mileage was 12,674. updated 4/25/08 *cn the consumer stated theird gear will grind and pop in while driving.
2007 honda civic si (5,000 miles on car). the six speed manual transmission has a problem when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. it sometimes will not go into gear or will pop out of 3rd. this creates a very serious safety issue as you may not be able to avoid an oncoming car. the honda dealership keeps saying that they are not aware of the problem. look on the internet and you will have hundreds of complaints of the very same thing on this model car. *tr
Many times, especially when the weather is colder, the manual transmission will pop out of third gear/grind/or will not even engage in third. this is dangerous, especially in heavy traffic or when turning a corner because it causes a quick deceleration and the person behind you can't anticipate that you are going to slow down suddenly because there is no braking involved. not to mention, after this occurs, the engine revs due to the missed gear, and you have to quickly shift into second or fourth gear to get going once again. this is a high rate problem and can be proven with a simple www search- it is all over the internet car forums and even has been reported by edmunds.com. some people say their dealer is replacing the trans fluid as a fix and it helps, others are doing it at their own expense because their dealer refuses to assist. my dealer won't admit to the issue. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the vehicle was purchased in november 2007. a few months later, he was unable to shift into third gear without it making a loud noise. the failure was progressive at times and intermittently he was unsuccessful at shifting into third gear. the contact stated that if the rotor failed it could cause a crash. a complaint was filed with the manufacturer after three attempts to notify them of the failure. the manufacturer stated that they haven't received complaints related to the failure and it is not a safety concern. the dealer stated that there is a technical service bulletin related to the failure. the failure mileage was 14,000 and the current mileage was 14,800.
With less than 6,500 miles, the civic si continues to grind on 3rd gear on a day to day basis. today february 17th 2008, while shifting at higher rpm's, 2nd gear refuses to engage which caused the gear to grind atrociously. several complaints have been filed and owners are have yet to be contacted with information regarding this. this transmission problem causes the car to slow down excessively while shifting problem is occurring and is a safety hazard for myself and driver behind me. *tr
When accelerating, shifting into third gear is never reliable. when you shift from 2nd gear to 3rd, it grinds and then pops out. this leads me to over rev the engine. currently, there is no service bulletin for this problem nor is their a recall. *tr
I own a 2007 honda civic si. i have heard a popping type sound coming from underneath the car or on the drivetrain. i hear it when going into or out of driveways. i have taken it to the dealership and they don't know what is wrong with it. also i have had problems with third gearin my transmission. it seems like it does not want to grab third gear. i had to have my clutch replaced at 4k miles. i was told it had to have been my "hard shifting". i was told if it happens again, i am responsible for the repairs. i have taken my car several times after this incident to prevent it from happening again, and they say they cant make my car do the same thing that happens when i drive it. i am very frustrated that honda will not step up and take care of the problem. instead they want to blame it on my "poor driving". *tr
My 2001 honda civic, died on me in the middle of the freeway. i couldn't accelerate so i had to push it out of the freeway. i towed to a family mechanic, and he said that the transmission had to be rebuilt. it was goin g to cost me $1800 for it. my car only has 78,000 miles, it is ridiculous for this to happened when you take good care of the car, i had just done de 60,000 mile service, and the transmission still died. i have called honda customer service, and they said there is nmothing they can do. i have checked online, and there is a lot of cars that are suffering the same thing, it is definitely a manufacture problem, some type of failure. *tr
I purchased honda civic si 2007,from norm reeves honda supp.dealer. on 7/31/07 someone rear ended my bumper, the car was repaired, a couple months later the car can not go in gear at all. the vehicle is only 5,800 mileages used .brought back to the dealer, they replaced bearing, disk. pressure, disk friction, and flywheel. it cost me $ 1512.15 plus $200.00 towing. the dealer refuse to pay for repairs, they said it is not in the warranty. please help me to recover this cost. thank much for your help. *tr
Manual transmission will not go into third gear. grinding noise when clutch is released. *tr
Honda civic hybrid, car was working fine at purchase, once this problem occurred it has been occurring frequently ever since. the malfunction mostly occurs after the car has been parked is the hot sun, once engine is started within 3-10 minutes engine will run rough, the ima system (integrated motor assist) will start charging the ima battery (158 volt nickel metal hydride battery) then suddenly empty the complete charge of the ima battery within 10 seconds. while the ima system is malfunctioning which is usually 5-20 minutes the braking is severely affected; when letting off the accelerator the car does not want to slow down, it feels like the cruise control is on and braking force is greatly reduced. also, while the ima system is malfunctioning, the ima assist electric motor stops working and the acceleration is severely reduced to the point that it is difficult to accelerate with the traffic, if you had to accelerate in a hurry to avoid an accident, it would not be possible while malfunctioning. this problem occurs several times per week during the warmer months, sometimes several times per day. also, since this malfunction has started the gas mileage has severely dropped. car has been in for service several times and i have been told by honda that they cannot find anything wrong with the car. it is my understanding that many civic hybrids are experiencing this problem and honda is not currently addressing this. this malfunction makes this car an unsafe hazard to drive.*tr
2007 honda civic hybrid cvt with less than 100 miles on it---transmission would not engage despite high revving during interstate rush hour traffic and caused serious traffic hazard as had to coast off road amid traffic. *tr
Problem with 3rd gear popping out or not going in happens in all conditions. *tr
Since day of purchase noticed third gear popping. thought being new car could not be a problem. it is now 6 months later. called service at honda dealership. questioned warranty and explained issues with car, such as clutch slipping, seems sync rolls are going. dealership claims it is driver. called america honda corp. they admit transmission fix will be coming out in 2008, but only certain vin#'s are covered. i am not understanding this since it has been a problem even in other year and makes with same issues! these same complaints are all over internet!cost has been estimated at $1200! even with extended warranty coverage purchased. *tr
07 honda civic si sedan--3rd gear shifts uneasy. sometimes there is resistance when shifting to 3rd gear and sometimes it does not engage at all. *tr
Slow throttle response since purchase, door glass rattle since purchase, the third gear would give resistance, which is a known problem with the six speed transmission. i patched the problem by changing the transmission fluid and installing a shorter shifter yet this is not a permanent solution. honda has refused to repair the actual problem with the third gear synchro and at one point stated that it was probably caused by my driving, the problem with the vehicle going into third gear is a known problem and there is a technical service bulletin that honda corporate has released for the exact problem. the headliner rattles, door gasket seal has been coming off since purchase, suspension popping noise in the front passenger side strut since purchase and the sound has become more frequent, the driver side visor was defective and was replaced, the driver door hits the fender when opening just started happening since honda worked on my vehicle. i have been taking my vehicle to two different dealerships (recommended by honda corporate) and nothing has been properly repaired. i feel as though i have been given the run around for the past year. honda has made several attempts to repair the problems and has not been able to, they have only damaged my vehicle during their attempts to repair it. they have damaged the front bumper three times, the side of the vehicle once, the door and fender once. they of course denied any involvement in the damage, then repair it under warranty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle failed to shift into third gear. the contact mentioned that when the vehicle was in third gear, it shifted to neutral independently. the vehicle was taken to an independent where it was diagnosed but the failure was unable to be duplicated. it was unknown if the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred intermittently. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000. the vin was not available. updated 03/01/16*lj *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact noticed that the vehicle never became warm. the vehicle was idling high. the vehicle made a bumping noise. the contact had to activate the brake in order to decelerate. the honda dealer placed the vehicle on the diagnostic machine and determined the high idling failure, but could not repair the vehicle. the contact drove another vehicle of the same year, make, and model and that vehicle did not have any failure. the technician stated that the idle speed was controlled by the computer which did not have a sensor. this was the reason why they could not assist her. the current mileage was 615, and failure mileage was 23.*ak updated 05/21/07. *jb
The honda civic si manual transmission can be very unsafe to drive especially when driven cold. when shifting into third gear there is feeling that the gear isn't all the way in. when the clutch is released the gear will pop out. this problem is also common in other honda vehicle's such as the rsx. this problem increases the chances of being rear ended and also puts tremendous wear on the transmission as the gear pops and grinds. honda service tells me that its is my driving that is causing this problem but over a thousand threads has been posted online about this problem. honda has done nothing to fix this problem except call us poor drivers. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. when the vehicle is started in the mornings, the engine becomes sluggish during the first two miles of driving. the engine does not stall, but has little acceleration power while driving 5 mph. after the engine has warmed, the vehicle operates normally. the vehicle has been diagnosed by the dealer 3 times. the current mileage was 8,500 and failure mileage was 3,113. updated 5/5/08 *cn the consumer stated he was not able to accelerate to keep up with the traffic. updated 05/05/08. *jb
Third gear on my '07 honda civic si coupe is both frequently impossible to engage (every third or fourth shift change) and pops out of gear during driving (typically 2-3 times an hour during continuous driving). this poses potential dangers while driving as there is failure in the application of power to the driven wheels, which is essential for controlling the vehicle. the issue is known to be common in the 6 speed si transmission. honda denies the issue, stating that the engagement problem is caused by not fully depressing the clutch. i always fully depress the clutch when shifting, have driven manually transmission vehicles for 41 years, and have never had this problem with any vehicle, let alone a gearshift which pops out of gear during normal driving). the failure to engage is probably more an annoyance than an issue, however the popping out of gear while driving is a serious road hazard and risk; for example, if one is cornering on snow covered or wet pavement, the sudden loss of power to the driven wheels could cause the vehicle to veer off course and result in a crash. the unfortunate driver who does not immediately recognize the loss of power transmission, or what to do to recover, is certainly placed in a highly compromised position, to say the least, and at worst may find him or herself in a vehicle which is totally out of control. nothing has been done by honda to either acknowledge or correct the issue. this is an accident waiting to happen. the issue has existed since the vehicle was new, an has become progressively worse with time. *tr
The manual transmission shifts badly, and there have been occasions when it won't go into gear. also, when cold, and in lower gears, it is very hesitant and choppy. i believe it's the throttle. there have been a few occasions when i've stepped on the brake and it's tried to move forward. honda says there is nothing wrong with this car. they treat me as if i don't know how to drive. *tr
3rd gear pops out and grinds. happens more when its cold but still grinds on nice days. even after changing the transmission fluid. *tr
I bought a 2007 honda civic si on december 18, 2006. in less than 700 miles the clutch burned out. honda america agreed to pay for the labor to repair it, but wanted me to pay for the parts. ( about $300) they also agreed to pay for a rental car for four days while my car was being repaired. i see no reason why i should have to pay for the parts, since i consider the problem to be a factory defect. the car has a six speed manual transmission. i know how to drive a standard, and i'm convinced that i did nothing to cause this problem. *nm
Purchased 2007 civic si sedan new in november 2006. shortly afterwards, began noticing difficulty when shifting into 3rd gear. gear would not engage and would sometimes "pop" out. usually this occurs when engine is cold, but has also occurred after driving for awhile. notified service technician one month after purchase. was told that i must be shifting incorrectly and that they could not duplicate the problem. problem continued and i advised them again in feb. 2008 that 3rd gear was still having resistance/grinding/popping issues. i found that a tsb was issued for the problem in july 2008. i have been back to the dealer numerous times and was never informed of the tsb. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. when shifting from second to third gear at 50 mph, the gear hesitates and makes a grinding sound. the vehicle feels as if it will stall. the failure only occurs in third gear. the dealer could not duplicate the failure, although other vehicles of the same year, make, and model were experiencing the same failure. the failure mileage was less than 5 and current mileage was 12,000.
