We have classified the 115 complaints from 2007 Honda Civic about SUSPENSION into the following categories.

REAR 125 FRONT 5

Recently reported SUSPENSION problems on 2007 Honda Civic

Rear tire wear to the belts. no adjustment of camber possible. owner has no way to prevent this dangerous and expensive wear. these vehicle should all be recalled and rear camber adjustable components installed regardless of vehicle miles. wear happens very quickly and is not shown at all on the front tires which have a fully adjustable suspension. *tr

I took my 2007 honda civic to the dealer because of extreme vibrations from the rear of the car. i was told that the rear suspension is bad, causing my rear tires to go bad. they said that they had seen this problem on other cars and would pay for half of the price for a new set of tires but only if i bought the tires from them. my car is 15 months old and i have already had it in the shop twice for problems. i will never buy another honda. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while traveling 60 mph, the contact drove over a bump and noticed that the vehicle had began to sway from left to right. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the rear sway bars were replaced. the current mileage was 80,000 and the failure mileage was 20,000.

After 16000 mi the rear tires where cupped and worn to the belts on the inside edge, purchased new tires and 15000 mi later the exact same abnormal tire ware was experianced. dealer replaced rear upper control arms which were defective from the factory but i had to pay for tires, labor, and a 4wheel alignment. honda needs to step up and admit that its tsb should be a recall!!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the rear of the vehicle vibrated at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic for an oil change and the rear suspension was inspected. the mechanic noticed that the tires had uneven wearing and advised the contact to go to the dealer. the dealer stated that the control arms and all four tires needed to be replaced. the dealer will cover the cost for the replacement of the control arms, but not the tires. the failure mileage was 19,660 and current mileage was 19,860.

2007 honda civic coupe rear tires wear out prematurely due to a geometric design flaw. the vehicle shakes and pulls due to this problem. dealer would not provide honda recommended repair until advised that i knew of the issue. then they agreed to the repair under warranty but not the damaged tires. honda has it as a service bulletin #08-001. "not a recall" they will not do anything about the damaged tires. *tr

Uneven tire wear. vibrations noticed at 15k miles. dealership reports tsb exists and offers to replace upper control arms which are wearing tires un-evenly. honda refuses to pay for damage to tires. customer service at american honda is worst i've ever come in contact with. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving 10 mph, the contact heard a loud rattling and roaring noise coming from the tires. he took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the front strut linkage. immediately after the repair, the failure resurfaced. all four tires were replaced, but the failure continued to persist. a tire specialist stated that the rear passenger rear shock failed, but no repairs were made. the contact was advised by a technician to closely monitor the issue. he is in the process of having the vehicle inspected again. the failure mileage was 18,000 and current mileage was 46,000. 4/01/09 nj* updated 04/07/09. *jb

My 2007 honda civic (currently 42,000 miles) has a loud noise and vibration when driving. the sound has become worse as the more miles i drive. when the rear tires are rubbed across, flat spots on the tires can be felt. honda wrote a repair forum stating that the cause of this is the improper design of the rear upper control arms. these arms are too short causing the camber of the wheels to be incorrect. i have called honda corporation at least 4 times and have contacted ourisman honda of laurel (where i purchased the vehicle) at least 5 times. neither one has been of any help. tom alexander (service manager) from ourisman honda of laurel has not returned my phone calls. he told me that since my car was out of warranty (past 36,000 miles) then he would look at my case as goodwill (as in he looked at my service history like oil changes and such with the dealership and will base his decision on replacement at no cost on this, ridiculous). i want my rear upper control arms replaced with no cost since the part was incorrectly designed. *tr

Excessive tire wear on rear of 06 and 07 honda civics due to a combination of the tires and rear suspension geometry. tires are rendered unsafe and must be replaced along with upper control arms and flange bolts. tires are from goodyear, bridgestone, and dunlop. numerous posts are on the internet, including accidents with property damage. honda has not issued a recall and will only perform service on a customer complaint. *tr

There has been uneven tire wear, particularly at the rear of our 2007 honda civic. ever since we bought the car. the feathering of the tread resembled a tracking problem, but we also had wheel bearing failures. three were replaced over the last 3 years. the dealer never checked the track despite my queries. i now find that there is a honda service bulletin that was issued regarding rear suspension in february 2008. the dealer still hasn't addressed the problem beyond selling us new tires and adjusting the track and charging us for the full cost. they did not perform the recommended replacement of components. *tr

The rear suspension has a "geometry problem", the upper control arms are too short resulting in negative camber which causes the rear tires to wear out quickly on the inside edge. i bought new tires and they are ruined after 12k miles. apparently honda is aware of the problem, there is a honda service bulletin 08-001 about it sent to dealers. as for safety, the rear tires appear to be fine from the outside, plenty of tread left. it is only the very edge on the inside of the tire that is worn quite badly. hence the safety issue: someone could be confident they have new tires in great condition from the outside appearance, until the inside edge wears out to the point of the tire blowing out while they're driving. this really should be a recall for all affected civics. *tr

I returned my 2007 civic coupe for its initial service, and notified the dealer that i was hearing a loud popping noise from the front driver's side strut area. they replaced both front strut assemblies, but the front left assembly continues to make the same loud popping noise. i asked them to inspect it for the b1 service, but they could not duplicate the sound. yet, as i drove out of the lot, 'pop.' i'm not happy with this, but i am not getting satisfactory attention for this problem. *tr

Tire vibration started at 5,000 miles. dealer rotated and balanced tires and said you are all set. driving home on the highway noticed vibration was still present. next visit took service for a ride and they said it sounded like bad rear wheel bearing that they did not stock. left the car for two days and when i came pick the car up they said we changed the right front wheel bearing? i said i was told they were changing the rears? they said nope the right front was the problem. driving at highway speed it was the same as before. called the dealer and asked if anyone actually test drove the car after repair. mechanic said the car was fine? brought the car back again and took the service manager for a ride he said yes it sounds like rear wheel bearings. left the car again for two days and when i picked up the car they said they changed the rear wheel bearings and a recall that came in for the rear abs sensor and seals. driving home same vibration. also a rattle coming from the right side dash area was never fixed in four tries. i now have 34,000 miles and the tires are completely worn out and this would suggest that their is a severe suspension problems with the 2007 civic lx. dealer has no clue. please read all the complaints on tire wear and if you are thinking honda think again. *tr

Honda installed "out of tolerance" upper control arms (rear) on all 2006, 2007, and possibly some 2008 honda civics which causes abnormal tire wear on the rear (cupping). i purchased 2007 civic and brought the problem to the dealers attention at ~6000 miles. at this time honda had not issued a tsb (technical service bulletin) and i ended up having to replace my original tires. shortly afterwards, i noticed the same kind of tire wear problem...researched (on my own) and found that honda had issued tsb...001 (first tsb of year 2008) i believe in february of 2008 (problem had started in 2005 with initial delivery of 2006 model civics) i've spent almost $1,400 in replacing tires, countless hours on the phone with dealerships, and honda america...finally have my car fixed (almost 6 months after i found out about the problem) and have not been compensated...i've had a case open with honda america since february 2008. *tr

Jan. 14, 2008, while driving my 2007 honda civic, i notice at 55mph the civic vibrate and make an unusual noise. i took my civic into my local honda dealership on jan. 16, 2008 for complaints about vibration at 55mph and clicking when trying to start my civic. there was no problem found on the clicking, when i arrived i had the service writer to come out and listen to the clicking, the service writer agreed there was clicking. the other issue of vibration when at 55mph i was advised honda will contact me once a repair is available on the service customer copy form. also, the service writer told me over the phone there had been numerous complaints about this issue honda would repair the problem, the problem is causing my tires to wear uneven and i was going to get new tires. *tr

I have a 2007 honda civic sedan lx i bought this car brand new from the dealership in december 2006, it currently has over 165,000 miles on it, (yes i know its high) but i have replaced my tires a good 5 times, now im about to buy another set, its always the rear tires that i have replaced. i didn't know honda had this issue, now that i know about it im very upset that i could have had this fixed since the beginning. the problem i have is the rear tires have been wearing unevenly and wearing extremely fast. this of course has caused me a lot of frustration. im hoping that honda corp will help me pay for the fix. *tr

There is excessive wear of rear tires on the civic. tires are bald after less than 5,000 miles, while the front look brand new. honda says no problem, but they need to address rear tire wear. have had 4 wheel alignment and still the tires are bald after too few of miles. makes no sense on a front wheel drive car. this car is dangerous. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving 60mph, the front end was shaking. an independent mechanic rotated the front passenger and driver tires to the rear and stated that the rear control arm failed and caused excessive wear on the tires. the dealer agreed with the diagnosis and replaced the rear tires at no cost to the owner. the dealer advised the contact that they dont know when the parts will be available to repair the rear control arms; however, they would notify him of the availability. the dealer also failed to replace the front tires. the failure mileage was 14,845 and the current mileage was 15,000.

We noticed our 2007 civic vibrating badly in late 07. on a long trip, the rear tire blistered and shredded; the tire was replaced. all in all, between december 2007 and june 2009, we had two alignments and put on 4 new rear tires due to uneven tread wear on the tires. after some research, we found out about the bad rear control arms on the vehicle. many driver's are experiencing this problem. my husband took the car to a local honda service center where we were told that it was not under warranty anymore due to mileage (it's a commuter car so we put on a lot of miles pretty quickly) and since it was not recalled for the control arm, just a service bulletin issued )service bulletin 08-001 issued in february 2008), that we would be financially responsible for everything regarding the repair. we have spent an estimated $1200 in repairs. this is a huge safety concern and should definitely be investigated further. honda is not taking any responsibility for the faulty control arms that were installed on these vehicles. *tr

Premature tire wear leading to loud rear axle noise, and tire failure. first set of tires failed after 14000 odometer miles. second set at 37000 odometer miles. the dealer indicated that there is defective weld in the control arms. *tr

Car rear end moves from side to side in adverse conditions such as ice and snow even driving at what should be a safe speed. even on dry tar or concrete i notice something is not right. the tires wear unevenly on the rear. the 1st time i brought the car in on 12-13-07 at 5,622 miles the rear tires were shot and honda blamed it on me. bulletin # 08-011 (rear upper control arm kit) was performed on 1-24-08 and seemed to help some. that didn't solve the problem because on 2-12-09 at 14,489 miles the tires were shot. after that tire replacement the car was aligned all around and so i thought maybe that would solve the problem. since then i still noticed the rear end was still unstable and went in several times to get the problem resolved and each time they either blamed it on me or said there was no problem. then on 1-12-2011 at 38,359 miles and another week at the honda shop i come to find out the tires are again worn badly on both rear inside edges. the only offer honda cooperation has made is to replace the tires with them only paying some of the cost but no permanent solution. the 3rd set of tires i put on were the best cooper tires and still had the problem so i know replacing the tires again will not solve the problem. i and my family feel unsafe in this car especially under certain conditions. more important to me then anything is the safety of my family and i hope honda will understand this and find a permanent solution before an accident happens at a result of this. honda suggested trading the car in for something else but i can not pass this safety hazard on to another person and feel good about it.

Transmission for 2007 honda civic si seem to not want to engage 3rd gear especially when cold. multiple occasions. seem to have something blocking the shifter and it will grind the gear or pop out. popping noise from front driver side suspension also have been experience on the vehicle. *tr

I have purchased, in the last 5 years, 5 different sets of tires because of cupping' of my rear tires due to a defect in the rear suspension. i was told on 2 occasions by 2 different honda dealers that the problem in my rear suspension had been solved. the last service was 10 months ago; i purchased my fifth set of tires and now have to replace them again. *tr

Facsimile from congressman jack kingston on behalf of constituent, who is seeking assistance regarding problems he is experiencing with the rear swing arms of his 2007 honda civic. *nj the consumer heard a loud tire noise and noticed the rear tires were tilted inward, indicating the alignment was incorrect. all four tires were worn and needed to be replaced. it was the swing arms that were designed improperly that caused the tires to wear excessively. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving approximately 30 mph, the contact heard a loud noise underneath the vehicle. he also noticed that the tires were tilted inward as if the alignment was incorrect. he took the vehicle to the dealer and they performed an alignment without his authorization and without having a zone representative inspect the vehicle to determine the cause of the failure. the vehicle is currently in the repair shop. the current mileage was 2,382 and failure mileage was 1,780.

Increasingly worse rear tire noise. dealer says normal. eventual first oil change and dealer admits to tech. svc. bulletin. 4hrs labor (no loaner) and hard sell to replace tires for $300 aprox. since this was my fault(?) sun visor failed and has become a hazard with no remedy available, only another defective visor. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic si. while driving at approximate speeds of 50 mph, the front passenger side tire blew out without warning. the next week, the rear driver side tire blew out suddenly. upon further inspection, the contact believed the failure to be attributed to the manner in which the tires were mounted to the vehicle. the dealer advised the vehicle would need a specific unknown tire and an alignment. the contact confirmed the failure persisted and the dealer was unable to determine the exact cause of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage was 75,000.

Honda has installed faulty rear control arms on their 2007 honda civics. they will not recall this part. they have issued a service bulletin. the defective part causes the tires in the rear to wear prematurely and in a cupping manner. the tires have been know to blow out at about 20,000 miles. honda replaces the part but will not replace the defective tires. the repair shops will allow customers to leave with defective tires. *tr

I took my brand new 2007 honda civic coupe lx and right after i took it, i found the car is drifting to right when driving on my way home. the dealer i bought it form told me that it is within spec. it took about 7 sec to drift from one lane to another on highway. this is within their spec. this is honda's quality. *tr

07 honda civic rear suspension control arm manufacture defective. causes excessive tire wear, cupping eventual failure. *tr

This is a notification of a defect before it becomes a failure which causes accident or loss of life. i have repeatedly returned my 2007 honda civic si sedan for service (4 times) for a defect in the front suspension which could cause strut failure. the problem is unresolved. internet research indicates many other owners (2006-07 model year) with the same problem. the consumer stated battery is dead if vehicle is not run for 5 or more days updated 12/12/07 *tr

2006, 2007, and some 2008 honda civics have "out of spec" upper control arms on the rear suspension which results in excess negative camber, improper wear of rear tires. *tr

Dangerous handling and extreme uneven tire wear due to defective rear suspension design. honda issues a tsb 08-001 alert to all honda dealers, but refuses to replace defective rear suspension at mfg cost. three sets of tires and a new set of rear control arms later, after just finding out about the tsb 08-001 alert, has resulted in over $3,000 of repairs to replace tires, brakes and the failed rear suspension (control arms) components that have caused these issues. there are multiple class action law suits both active and pending. please contact us with questions as we have documented all our maintenance in great detail. *tr

The control arms on 2006-2007 honda civics are defective which causes uneven tire wear in the rear tires. the inside edge of the tires go bald quickly and the rear end of the car begins to 'jump' around on the highway. there is a service bulletin issued by honda (08-001), but they will not fix the problem. the car feels very unstable on the highway. we have had to replace the tires and get an alignment every year. *tr

2006 through current honda civic si have a problem with the inability to adjust the rear camber of the tires. normally what happens between 2,000 and up miles the owners are experiencing wear to the inside of the rear tires that goes undetected until a blow out of the tire occurs. the fault lies in the rear control arm that does not allow for camber adjustments of the tires. honda sells these vehicles new with the suspension as is. the owners have attempted to get honda and the dealers who sold the cars to make good on a repair that cost upwards of over $800.00. they wont. having been an army accident investigator my concern lies in the failure of the control arm that does not allow for camber adjustments to the rear tires. currently the rear tire or tires are allowed to rub against the rear suspension system causing a blow out of the rear tire (s) causing a loss of control of the vehicle and a subsequent crash. the potential problem could be remedied by the recall of si version civics for installation of an adjustable rear control arm. it is my understanding original civics have been recalled by honda to correct or examine this problem. the number of accidents incidents or fatalities i do not believe has been investigated or reported. buyers of these vehicles, insurance agents as well as accident investigators should be made aware of this potentially dangerous problem. it might just save a life or two. i believe that a data base for all civics involved in automobile accidents should kept to identify this problems severity. *tr

Honda manufactured faulty rear upper control arms, and thus made the car defective causing uneven tire wear in the rear tires. honda refuses to cover the factory defect and correct the problem. honda created the problem from day one regardless of the mileage or age of the car. i did not cause the factory problem, due to the fact i did not make the car. american honda is responsible. *tr

I purchased this 2007 honda civic coupe new in may of 2007. there was a class action suit and subsequent recall for the rear upper control arms that caused severe uneven tire wear and vibration. the problem i have is that the fix did not fix the problem and honda will not stand behind making it right. the replacement arms do not provide sufficient latitude in the adjustment in camber. there are after market fixes for this. my concern is that the tire wear and subsequent handling while driving are a hazard on the road. this may also be cause for a new class action suit, as the original "fix" was not a fix. *tr

Excessive noise began to emanate from the rear tires . stability control from side to side became a problem. excessive tire wear , specifically excessive inside cupping of rear tires continued. attempts to rectify the problem over the years by rotating tires, four wheel alignment, checking tire pressures were unsuccessful. recently installed upper rear control arms as recommended by dealer. totally solved the problem. all at my expense. a definite safety issue. all owners should be notified to prevent injuries. survey should be conducted to determine if any have occurred to date. honda should reimburse all expenses. updated 05/16/12 *tr

Slow throttle response since purchase, door glass rattle since purchase, the third gear would give resistance, which is a known problem with the six speed transmission. i patched the problem by changing the transmission fluid and installing a shorter shifter yet this is not a permanent solution. honda has refused to repair the actual problem with the third gear synchro and at one point stated that it was probably caused by my driving, the problem with the vehicle going into third gear is a known problem and there is a technical service bulletin that honda corporate has released for the exact problem. the headliner rattles, door gasket seal has been coming off since purchase, suspension popping noise in the front passenger side strut since purchase and the sound has become more frequent, the driver side visor was defective and was replaced, the driver door hits the fender when opening just started happening since honda worked on my vehicle. i have been taking my vehicle to two different dealerships (recommended by honda corporate) and nothing has been properly repaired. i feel as though i have been given the run around for the past year. honda has made several attempts to repair the problems and has not been able to, they have only damaged my vehicle during their attempts to repair it. they have damaged the front bumper three times, the side of the vehicle once, the door and fender once. they of course denied any involvement in the damage, then repair it under warranty. *tr

Rapid and uneven tire wear within 5k miles. wears down to belt and becomes very unsafe to drive. have had to buy three sets of tires. rotate tires every 3000 miles. honda admits to installing faulty rear upper control arms but refuses to replace them unless i pay for them. if a part is bad from the factory why is the customer responsible. *tr

I purchased a new 2007 honda civic ex coupe from the local honda dealership. within a week i noticed that something was wrong with my car. my car felt as though my tires were not turning properly and there was excessive noise coming from the rear of my car. i returned to the dealership and was told that nothing was wrong. on two additional occasions, i took my car back and was told again that nothing was wrong. the 3rd trip to the dealership, they said that i needed an alignment. this past weekend, i took my car to another place for the alignment and was told that i had a suspension problem, that all four tires were wearing unevenly and inappropriately. researching the internet, i located numerous honda customers with the same exact problems. i found that honda has known of this problem since 2006 and not corrected the problem. nor have they notified their customers. honda released a tsb in april, 08 but still will not take responsibility for the damage that has been done to my car. they said that they will replace the suspension/control arms but will not replace the tires on my car. at 24,000 miles on my car and a new car warranty, i feel as though i, the consumer, am getting screwed in this deal. the public should be notified and a recall should be issued. *tr
