Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2006 Honda Civic

Sun visor on the 2006 honda civic won't stay up or go completely down. when putting the visor down it just split open. this is the second time it's happened. honda replaced the part about 2 years ago, but the exact same thing happened again. it is very distracting and dangerous when driving. *tr

2006 honda civic hybrid - on driver and passenger sun visor has been coming fall apart. it couldn't put up. i was told the part itself cost me about $70. it is very annoying when i am driving with visor down all the time until it replace. *tr

Driver side visor has split and just dangles now. numerous other 2006 honda civic owners are complaining about the same problem. some have replaced the visor with the same cheap part four times. this is unacceptable!!! have never owned a car that had a problem with the visor and i keep my vehicles for ten plus years. *tr

2006 honda civic. the sun visor fails. i bought my car new and after 2 years in 2008 the sun visor failed. the sun visor would fall down while i was driving and block my view. i would have to quickly release my grip from the steering wheel to push the sun visor out of my view so i could view where i was going. the dealer replaced the visors under warranty. now, 2 years later (2010) the visors have failed again resulting in the same behavior. i have conversed with other owners of the same model and many have are having the same problem. i may get honda to replace the sun visors again but they will most likely do the same thing in 2 years. *tr

Driver's side sun visor cracked open in 2006 honda civic ex. from information on the net, this is a common occurrence, and honda does not want to see this as a safety hazard. i almost got into a wreck when it suddenly flipped down in my face. i also can not see at night to drive. honda does not want to replace the defective part at their expense. they want to charge you 70.00 to fix this plastic hazard. *tr

Failure of sun visors in 2006 honda civic. they mechanism that holds them up breaks and then the visor hangs down in your face while driving. i've replaced the passenger side visor already and now the drivers side is broken. this is a well known problem but honda has done nothing about it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the driver side sun visor was obstructing the contacts view of the roadway. in addition, the contact stated that if he had to brake abruptly, he could possibly strike his head on the sun visor and cause injury. the dealer was contacted and offered no assistance. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileage was 80,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the sun visor on the driver and passenger side of the vehicle continued to fall down, making it difficult to see while driving. the contact did not take the vehicle to the dealer since the sun visor was not covered by the warranty. the contact was also advised that he would be responsible for the cost of the diagnostic testing. the failure mileage was unknown. the current mileage was 41000.

My 2006 honda civic sun visors keep breaking and will not stay up in either direction, blocking my view of the road. it looks like thousands of others are having this same problem. some honda dealers refuse to make the repair without charging for labor. it takes 60 seconds to replace! they also refuse to just give me the part and let me replace it. this is a huge safety issue. they should issue a recall and stop considering it "a known problem". *tr

Drivers side visor breaks apart and cannot be positioned safely during driving. this happens usually gradually over a couple of summers until it no longer functions. it is not safe. *tr

I own a 2006 honda civic ex which i purchased new in 2006. since i purchased the car, i have experienced failure of three driver and three passenger sun visors. i am currently experiencing problems with the fourth visor on the drivers side. the vehicle has only 55,460 miles on it used mainly to go to and from work 27 miles away from home. over time, the glue which holds the visors together is losing its adhesion allowing the visor to come apart. as a result, the visor is falling down into the drivers field of view unexpectedly which can cause a fatal crash. i have three friends who have newer versions of the same vehicle and they have the same problem. their names are garry burkett, ken crampton and john minnick. in discussing the problem with the honda dealership, walsh honda in macon ga, they stated that honda knows that they have a problem due to the shear number of visors being replaced but is doing nothing to correct the problem. our family has other honda vehicles, a 1999 acura tl and a 2003 honda civic neither of which has ever had a visor replaced. i have reported this problem once before tot his office. i wish someone would look into this and force the manufacture to correct the problem before there are serious accidents if there have not been already. *tr

Visor failed on 2006 honda civic blocking vision. apparently many many others have had the same problem. honda will not replace the defective part and it's a huge safety issue. *tr

Defective sun visor on 2006 honda civic ex. broke after normal use. after break, it hangs down loosely and impairs the driver's vision. *tr

2006 honda civic si visors have fallen off right in my face while driving, causing a reaction that could have caused an accident. they were poorly made as the passenger side visor has also fallen completely off. luckily i didn't get into an accident but i have read that this is an issue with this model for many people. i have read that when their is high heat, it can cause this problem and it just so happens that we've experienced 90+ heat for the past 2 weeks when this happened. *tr

I have a 2006 honda civic. both of my sun visors have cracked along the seems. this causes the sun visor to not go up. the sun visor hangs in my line of vision, it will not go all the way up or all the way down. this is a safety hazard. *tr

Sun visors, drivers and passengers, fail to stay in the upright position. the visors in the down position block the drivers vision which impair the visibility of sight. this impairment has almost lead to several accidents. this is a common problem for 2006- 2007 civics based on internet research. american honda and the local dealer refuses to correct this design defect. the visors are plastic. the two halves, upper and lower, are glued together. the interior mechanism that retains the visor in the up position is metal. the metal has a higher yield strength than the plastic and breaks the plastic at the point where it is glued together. *tr

Light use flip visor in honda civic 2006 cracked and now blocking the sight very dangerous at night driving. reported to honda dealer and they admitted is flaw design but no recall. *tr

Safety issue sun visor explodes impedes visions. appears to be a common problem on 8th generation honda civics. i just want to add my name to the list. i own 2006 honda civic. both sunvisors exploded or broke. i was advised this is a common problem on the vehicle. honda has refused to replace at this time. *tr

I am putting in a complaint about my 2006 honda civic sun visor it is cheaply made and the heat melts the plastic so it starts to wear on the spine of the visor it falls down in my face, i had to hold it up while driving, i feel as though i am as distracted while fiddling with it so its out of my way while driving is as distracting as being on cell phone, so i took it off, and i live in a sunny state and because i don't have the $70.00 to replace it, i have to hold my hand above my eyes to block the sun which is also very distracting. i called honda and complained they said it is not a safety issue so it will not be recalled but they will replace it at one of the local honda dealers and that the price can range from $70.00 to $100.00.. which i don't have the money for currently, and either way i feel like it was a flaw in their design and i shouldn't have to replace my sun visor every summer when its too hot and decides to fall off! that is $70.00 to $100.00 per sun visor every summer.. that adds up. i love honda and it seemed like they were doing so well, they always did right by me, but now this 06 honda civic is cheaply made and wont surprise me if it doesn't last as long as my old 95 honda civic. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the drivers sun visor split in half at the seam. the visor was down and when he attempted to close the visor, it fell apart and obscured his vision. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that he needed to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis. the visor was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was approximately 41,000.

2006 honda civic sun visors split when adjusted in hot weather. they then hang down till replaced, obstructing vision. i have had to replace mine 6 times. this is a known defect to dealers, yet they don't improve the replacement sun visors. this is a safety issue!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. while driving at speeds of 40 mph, the drivers sun visor fell into the contacts line of view. the dealer advised they were aware of the failure however the repair would be at the contacts liability. this was the second occurrence of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 34,000 and current mileage was 62,020.

The window visor on my 2006 civic si has melted twice now and it posses a driving hazard. this is due to the fact that after the inside plastic is hit by direct sunlight the actual plastic clips melt and that causes the visor to suddenly flip down right into your line of vision. *tr

I have a 2006 honda civic and have had a problem with the sun visors splitting and falling into a down position without being able to put into an up position again. this results in an impeded view of my driving field. when i try to move it to the side window and make a turn the visor hits me in the head causing another issue while driving. within the first year i had to have the driver's side replaced (not sure about the passenger side), but it was under warranty. a year and a half ago i needed to have the driver's side replaced but it wasn't under warranty and i did not have the $65.00 to pay for it. now i need the passenger side replaced and the driver's side is so loose i have to push it up for every stop light so i can see it. it's extremely dangerous how it flops down and blocks your field of view. i made a complaint with honda but they said they can't do anything until there is a recall on the part. *tr

Honda civic 2006 driver side sun visor falls apart in the heat and blocks drivers vision. *tr

Both sun visors on 2006 honda civic have broken several times. the visors do not sit in the closed position properly which causes them to constantly be in the driver's line of sight when driving. visors remain in the open position - unable to close when not needed which impairs driving vision. *tr

Normal usage of driver's side sun visor - splits apart and will honda civic 2006 ex driver side sun visor does not stay up. failure is continuous and cannot be corrected without replacing the sun visor. *tr

Thousands of late model honda civic owners, including my wife's honda have been having chronic sun visor breakage problems. when it breaks unexpectedly, it blocks the driver's view creating a very unsafe condition. honda refuses to acknowledge this issue and instead still sells the faulty part as replacement. some drivers have replaced 2 visors every year. check this link of complaints: http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/civic/2006/accessories-interior/sun_visor_falls_apart.shtml honda won't recall these faulty parts saying it's not a safety issue. but toyota didn't think floormats were a safety issue either and look what resulted! call honda at: 800 999 1009 and see for yourself. this is a serious safety issue! want to help? The sun visor for my vehicle has had to be replaced several times which causes me many times to drive without a sun visor. many honda civic owners have complained about this problem as it is a safety issue driving in the sun without a working sun visor. *tr

Both driver and passenger side sun visors have broken on my 2006 honda civic. the driver side visor broke once before in 2008 and i had it fixed. it broke again in 2009 and in may 2010 the passenger side sun visor broke. it makes it difficult to get a clear view of the highway when driving and when it becomes necessary to move it to the side it creates a dangerous situation while driving. *tr

2006 honda civic visor broken and is obstructing my line of sight while driving. *tr

The visors in the car have a metal rotating piece in between two plastic pieces that cause the visor to snap after minimal use. my driver's side visor is now completely broken, as has happened to my friend's exact same car too. *tr

Passenger side sunvisor came apart at the seam. *tr

My visors pop a part when using them. *tr

The sun visors begin separating, dangling and intefere with field of vision during normal traffic conditions. dealership replaced my visors three times prior to warranty expiration and now they are no longer willing to do it. it is a safety issue because is blocks my field of vision. *tr

2006 honda civic visor broke, driver side. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the driver's and passenger's side sun visors would continually fall from the closed position. in addition, the visors were also split in half exposing the metal clamps on both ends of the visors making it impossible for the visors to remain in a stationary position. the driver's side visor was previously replaced by the dealer however, the failure persisted. the manufacturer was contacted and the contact was awaiting a decision on if he would be liable for the repairs. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000 and the current mileage was approximately 75,000. the vin was unavailable.

Under normal use, the sun visor hinge breaks, causing the visor to split at the seam by its mount. the visor is difficult to put back in the upward position and will not stay in a forward position. it falls straight down impeding visibility. if forced back into the upward position, it will stay out of view, but will not function for its intended purpose; therefore, there is no usable sun visor. the car was purchased new in october 2006. the visor was first replaced by the dealer in 2008. it broke again in early 2010. searching the web, i find that this seems to be a common problem that has gone unaddressed. *tr

My 2006 honda civic ex sedan has had many problems with both sun visors since i bought the vehicle. the visors have both melted and broke which cause them to hang down in view and will not go in the up position. while driving down the 4-lane the visor on my side fell in my view, in shock i tried to stop the car since i could not see and was rear ended and rolled into a barrier. the visor now wont go up at all and is about to break off. *tr

Honda civic 2006 sunvisor: it has split apart and will not fold up and out of the way, partially blocks my rear-view mirror in the "down" position. i have to push the pieces together to make it stay together. once you put it back down it splits again. bad design making an item so cheaply that must endure repeated use in a spot that probably has too much pressure in between the two joined pieces. *kb

2006 honda civic driver's side sun visor split at the top seam. it is now either stuck up or down and requires a great deal of effort to move it. *tr

My car has a large problem with its windshield wipers, when i crank the car they come on and sometimes don't turn off, and most of the time when they do turn off they will stop in the middle of the window, causing me to loose all site of the road and being distracted trying to get them to go down, and wearing out my wiper blades with the very numerous times i have to turn them on before they will stop in the correct rest position. this problem has cause me to go off the road and almost get in many accidents with the lack of vision, and inability to concentrate on the road. *tr

Intermittent wipers run on longer than normal and stop in mid-windshield and not at the bottom of the windshield. experienced this same problem last winter/spring and seems to work fine during warm months. *tr

I leased a new 2006 honda civic, 2-door coupe in april 2006. twice while my car was still under the mileage warranty, the driver's side sun visor (part #88380-sna-a01za, h/c 8073496) failed. failure in this case means the unit split apart at the seam connected to the arm that holds it to the headliner. the only way to fix the problem is to replace the visor. each time the visor was replaced it lasted approximately a year before failing again. each part replacement was identical to the original equipment. the most recent failure occurred just after the car went out of the 3-year warranty, and before the 36,000 mile expired. i held off replacing it because i knew i would have to pay for it. recently, i narrowly averted an accident caused by my defective visor. it would not stay up against the roof, flopping down 100% of the time, which caused me to miss seeing a traffic light and to enter an intersection after a traffic signal turned red. luckily, the driver crossing from my right was able to see me and to come to a stop in time. but i knew i could not delay replacing the visor. a new visor cost me close to $70. there was no aftermarket product available and i did not have the right tools to install a new visor myself. i went online and found several blogs: www.usrecallnews.com and www.civicforums.com and www.honda-tech.com, filled with complaints from other honda owners having identical problems. all reported the same thing: honda will not fix them free of charge after the warranty. and there has been no redesign of the part. this is an expensive item to have to replace once a year (on average), and it is very dangerous to operate the vehicle with a defective visor. it drops down and fully obstructs vision in the upper half of the windshield. surely this fact, backed up by my own experience and that of others, constitutes reason for a safety recall. by the way, i now own the car which is a good vehicle in other respects. please advise. *tr
