Vtc actuator makes loud rattle with almost every start. it is an engine problem on 2007 to 2012 honda crv as well as 2008 to 2012 accords. if this part fails, the engine will seize up and could cause the driver to lose control. honda has verified the problem but since the vehicle is out of warranty at 75000 miles, they refuse to remedy the problem. given case number 04825102 and contacted product concerns department but still refused to address problem. vehicle has service notice 09010. honda tech confirmed they have had may problems and even had to get a replacement part for their replacement part. this needs to be dealt with by honda, but they are not taking any responsibility.
Car rattles from cold starts. honda dealership notified but cannot replicate, because it was driven there. took honda many years to release a service bulletin, but what about us that are out of your warranty? called honda customer service, and even though the bulletin reads all 2008 accords, they keep repeating vin specific. case #05211326. honda step up and fix your mistakes. the date is incorrect, it has been going on for a while, did not save the date.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving various speeds, the contact heard a knocking sound coming from the engine without warning. the contact took the vehicle to crown honda greensboro (3633 w wendover ave, greensboro, nc 27407, (336) 790-9855) to have an oil consumption test performed. the vehicle was listed at 184,000 miles and, after 1,000 miles, the contact was informed that he used a quart and a half of oil during the test. the dealer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty due to its mileage. the manufacturer informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the same dealer for another oil consumption test. the contact refused to have another test performed and informed the representative that he had pictures and documents regarding the original test that was performed. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 177,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the vehicle was taken in for sevice under tsb 13-078. the vehicle was diagnosed that cylinders 1, 2, 3, and the piston rings failed and needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired; however, cyclinder 4 failed. cylinder 4 was not replaced, but was included in the tsb. it was not reading an error at the time. as a result, the engine failed and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
Vsa/brake/check engine/and abs light.
Check engine light blinking under normal driving. engine needs to be replaced. honda won't cover because car is 5 months out of warranty. only has 42,000 miles. was told excessive oil consumption even though i have noticed no excessive oil consumption. last week was told engine misfire issue and they replaced rings and pistions.
The vehicle was running smoothly on the freeway, being driven at approximately 64 mph - there were no warning lights on (check engine, low oil, temperature..) - suddenly there was a metal clank from the engine compartment followed immediately by a plume of thick clear smoke that completely engulfed the car as the engine stalled and died - within a matter of seconds. the smoke cleared rapidly, and looking under the hood, nothing seemed to be amiss. no fire, no more smoke, no leaking fluids, but the engine was completely dead. subsequent attempts to re-start it produced only the click of the starter - the engine refused to turn over. the car was towed to an auto repair shop where it was discovered that there was absolutely no oil in the engine which had caused it to seize. for the past 18 months the car has been burning quite a significant bit of oil. during that period, it needed at least two two quarts of oil between scheduled oil changes - there never was any oil leak. two weeks prior to the incident, it was topped off with two quarts of oil when the low oil and check engine lights came on. when the engine was finally opened, it was discovered that the piston rod had snapped off when the engine ran dry of oil (see attached pictures). subsequent research has revealed that honda is aware of several problems involving excessive oil consumption for this particular engine configuration and model year (2008 3.5l v6 pzev). i have also discovered official several honda service bulletins that are relevant and pertinent to this issue. so far, my best attempts to get a resolution from american honda has produced no result even though i submitted documented evidence that the car was serviced regularly as per honda's recommendations and its long history of problems and repairs relating to excessive oil consumption.
The cold start generates the grinding sound from vtc actuator. the result of vtc actuator complete mechanical failure is catastrophic. the valves from the intake of either cylinder 2&3 or 1&4 will result in a tensioner to fail and a fantastic collision of the valve with the piston. honda should issue a recall as this is a part defect. the newly redesigned vtc accturator was released but honda america only replace this for certain customer as case by case.
My 2008 honda accord has been using oil way before the next oil change. this has only occurred the last two changes. the car does not leak or smoke. there has been a class action suit regarding spark plug fouling indicating unusual oil consumption. my car has only 59500 miles and i believe the problem may be starting now. honda extended a recall until nov. 2015, 8 years past the purchase date. i was never notified about this and because the problem hadn't begun until now, it is only a matter of time that my plugs will foul. other 2008 honda owners had rings replaced and other engine remedies to correct the premature oil consumption. i have had several new hondas, and never experienced this kind of problem. i first saw about the class action law suit, about a month ago, and several people had this problem. because of the low mileage i was not affected, until my recent oil change. i certainly don't believe the car should be using 2 or more quarts in less than 1000 miles. the dealer told me they would have to do an oil change and monitor the consumption and then he said only about 2 out a 100 have been warranted. i have taken good care of my vehicles and changed the oil regularly and never had a problem like this. had i had this problem arise a few months back, i may have gotten this taken care of. unhappy honda customer
Takata recall, i took my car to the honda dealer on april 18,2016 because of noise. they identified the vtc actuator as the problem and started that it is not covered under warranty. my honda accord has 37,000 miles on it. there are many complaints for this issue, starting several years back. please force a recall. thank you! picture sent from honda, gold part broken, silver was replaced. *tr
Purchased this vehicle in 2012, within 60 days of purchase i reported issues with oil consumption to honda and also to the dealership in which the car was purchased. honda gave me a rental for two days while they reviewed the problem. we were then asked to bring our vehicle back for a total of 3 tests once every 30 days to have them measure the oil. in the meantime we kept putting oil in the vehicle in a more than normally expected rate. even though they noticed it as a problem, the best they offered to do was fix it for $1500, however we never should have been responsible for the oil consumption problem. in 2016 honda reported a oil consumption recall for vehicles of which mine fit the orginal criteria. four years latter honda is still telling us that they will fix it for $1500. this issue should be fixed without us having to pay for it considering this was a late identified problem of which we have had to foot the cost for even while having a car note. honda should be responsible for fixing the oil consumption problems on the vehicles recalled.
Oil consumptiion, no leaks, no smoke, just oil during every 400 miles.
Terrible gas milage and massive oil burning. took it into o'hare honda who replaced 2 oil pressure switches after they updated the vcm software. i also had oil consumption monitoring done and was told my car doesn't burn enough oil. it was monitored to burn 9/10ths a quart for every 1000 miles and was told it needed to burn at least a full quart for every 1000 miles for honda to offer an engine replacement. for the last 2 to 3 years i have been adding 2-3 quarts every oil change and i used to get 4000-6000 miles per oil change when i bought the car certified pre-owned (cpo). while under warranty i made claims to honda and they would tell me i am using the wrong oil. the dealer valley honda when i bought the car specifically told me that i needed to put the same quality oil into the car as the previous owner and according to their records the vehicle was only serviced by them and the only oil to put in the car was full synthetic 0w20 and that is all it has ever had. please note oil changes every 4k to 6k miles at 80 dollars each seemed good, but now it's every 2k to 3k miles at the same price not to include the additional quarts at 10 dollars each costing me an additional 20 to 30 dollars each oil change and i am averaging 13 to 17 miles per gallon city/highway combined a far cry from the original 19 to 29 miles per gallon previously achieved as promised. all services done to the vehicle include: timing belt replaced, oil pressure switches replaced, fluid serviced and flushed; brakes, transmission, power steering, coolant system all of these were done on the same day, with a heavy bill of 1300 dollars. timing was done because the engine oil consumption issue and because i was told the vehicle had over 100k miles and it was required. currently i have 133k miles my 2008 accord ex-l v6 navi.
Experiencing excessive oil consumption, per honda recall, it is due to piston o rings leaking oil into chamber causing excessive oil burning and causing engine knocks once the oil was consumed within less than 3 months.
Loud rattling noise at cold start for 4 seconds from engine.
There's excessive oil consumption. i've changed spark plugs, pcv valve, throttle body but nothing helps.
Excessive oil consumption. i change the oil religiously every 3-4,000 miles even though the owners manual says 10,000. if i did not add oil, 2 qts every 1,500 miles it would be bone dry at 3,000. no blue smoke, no oil drips left behind
Makes a loud noise on a cold start and then it goes away. call the dealer and he said it was the vtc actuator issue.
Takata recall i purcahsed a 2008 honda accord in 2013. about a year and hald ago i started noticing that the car was burning alot of oil. on top of oil changes, i had to add 3-4 quarts a month. in sept 2015 i rcvd a warranty ext from american honda for sticking pistonsrings resulting in high engine oil consumption. i took the car to my local honda delaership and was told 3 failed attempts for a oil consumption test had to be done first before honda would fix rings problem. took the car to honda in oct 2015 to start test 1. after that the car started acting funny. i would jerk alot, engine light would start flashing, it wouldnt accelerate properly. in feb 2016 it happened again and i got stranded because the car wouldnt accelerate. american honda wouldnt honor the warranty ext because i was over the allowed miles. they know there was an issue with these model cars and had only recently sent me a letter regarding it. i found out that a few of the cylinders were misfiring and after reserach found out it was due to the rings. they provided terribel customer service and they put a crappy on the street and did everything to avioid fixing it. and then informed customers so late after the case was settled.
Vehicle engine has a rattle sound when turning on. vehicle was stationary when that happened
I received a letter regarding a warranty extension: sticking piston rings resulting in high engine oil consumption. when i took my car to the mission hills, ca honda dealer for repair, i was told that my engine light first had to be illuminated and then i would have to purchase 3 consecutive oil changes from this dealership before they would repair the problem.
I have a 2008 honda accord ex l v6 and the problem i'm is my car died before it died i was on the highway and it started jerking so pull off the highway and as i come to a stop light the battery lights come on light turn green as i hit the gas very slow to shift into gear then it dies and i note the battery and also the alternate is less then a yr old once i jump it off it started up no problem but once i put it in reverse it did not move i give it gas and nothing
Vtc actuator failure. i get a grinding sound when starting my car. almost every 2008 honda accord is experiencing this problem. honda is aware and they have not recalled this issue.
Excessive oil consumption of 1 or more quart every 1000 miles. honda repeatedly fails to uphold it's service warranty extension of vehicles that qualify for excessive oil consumption.
For 2 yrs my 2008 honda accord would make a loud rumble at a cold startup. i took my car to a few mechanics including honda and unfortunately the problem could not be detected. my car has 91,300 miles consumes excessive amounts of oil to a point of monthly oil changes. i received a recall notice and scheduled an appointment at staten island honda service center on sat. nov. 15. i was told that honda would need to keep the vehicle for 2 days in order to fix the sticking piston recall and the air bag recall. i rescheduled for thur. nov 19th 7:45 am so that i could get a rental car. i dropped my car off weds. nov. 18th at 6:30 pm, so that i could go to work on time the next day and honda accommodated me. however, i was told by the manager that i would not be getting the recalls repaired because i do not qualify for the air bag recall even though when i look up my vin # on the honda website it clearly states my car qualifies. i was also told that i would only be getting an oil change which i would have to pay for, they would need to monitor my car for 1,000 miles to see how much oil i consume. i explained that i had already consumed 60% in less than 4 weeks. i feel my vehicle is unsafe to drive my car rumbles on acceleration and jerks hesitantly while the oil light goes on spontaneously. i feel i am entitled to the recall repairs with no hesitance from the honda service center.
2008 accord ex-l (4 cyl) started making a rattling sound on cold-starts at approximately 80k miles. originally thought to be from low oil (seeing how this vehicle burns oil like it is its job), i always kept an extra quart on hand. after closely monitoring the rattle and having several mechanics look at it (including honda), no one could identify it until i had a mechanic at work look at it. i work for a fleet lessor. he identified it as the vtc actuator. i immediately called a buddy who is a parts manager for honda and he confirmed this was a known issue. a simple google search blew my mind! this has been a known issue for years and apparently has catastrophic failure results on engines! makes me feel really safe knowing that my accord has so many safety issues! premature brake/rotor wear, srs module failure (controls the air bag system), high oil consumption, inadequate battery cranking amps, transmission software recalls, etc. when this car dies, its gone and never to be replaced with another honda. honda refused to warranty my car for the recent oil consumption recall because i am beyond their 125k mileage threshold even though they have me on record of the issue going back to 60-80k miles! not a happy honda owner.
I began hearing a disturbing mechanical rattle on cold starts and started to become more excessive during the winter months. it was confirmed that the vtc actuator was the problem and i contacted honda america for a solution and assistance but they denied any goodwill service because of the age and miles on my car even thou its a common problem with every 2008 accord 2.4l kseries engine. my 2003 accord, sounds much better at start up than my 2008. kind of sad since it's over 200,000 miles now. the grinding sounds so bad it has to be damaging to something in the engine. with so many complaints from all the 2008 v4 owners, i don't know why honda is acknowledging this problem and release a service bulletin but not a free replacement of the troubled parts. this is very frustrating given and i am very unhappy with honda's customer service. after speaking with casy with american honda this morning, he stated that a recall has not been made because it has not caused an immediate harm to consumers. so, if i understand him correctly, harm to a consumer has to happen before something is done to a known problem????
2008 honda accord. consumer writes in regards to brake , engine, electrical, air bag light, seat belt, light problems and radio problems. *smd the consumer stated the pistons were replaced a couple of years ago. the engine has been misfiring since july 2014. the coils, spark plugs and fuel injectors were replaced and the check engine light continued to stay on. *jb
Several years ago back in 2011, when purchasing the car from another owner, still under warranty, l complained to the honda dealership about the car running out of oil miles before the next oil change at 3000 miles. i did not know where the oil was going, there were no leaks. i was told that there was nothing on record, and there was nothing that they could do. i left the issue, changed my own oil, because, l could not afford to have the oil changed every 200 miles. i had to add a quart every 1000 miles, until the limit was meet to change the engine oil completely. basically l left the problem alone. in august 2015, l received a letter from honda extending the warranty to 125,000 miles due the an oil consumption problem cause by bad pistons. basically a manufacturers defect. i contacted honda usa and was told that even though out of warranty, l should do a oil consumption test. i did this. the car burned 2.2 quarts in 1975 miles. it was determined by the dealer that the pistons needed to be repaired. on 10-23-15 at 11:47 am, honda contacted me and told me that since my car is now 8000 miles out of warranty, that there was nothing they could do, and the repairs was on me to do at my expense. i find this to be very troublesome since it is not an issue that l started, but it is a problem from honda, when the car was made. i am very upset over this, and l am contacting you to see if l have any grounds to fight this matter. i use my car for work, and l love in the south, and have to drive to work every day. so mileage does accumulate. however, this issue should not have been an issue had honda would have recognized this problem earlier or done something before the cars that were purchased in 2008, could have been covered since the time goes back the furthest. i thank you in advance for whatever you can do in this situation. attached is the letter from honda. *tr....updated 12/02/15 *bf' consumer stated that they will do nothing manufacture defected car is out of warranty. updated 05/22/18*jb
Rattling noise when i start my car i was looking and there's a lot a complaint an videos on the web with the same noise and is the same just when you cold started the car and i find out is the vtc is defective and i can affect the whole engine and there's no even a recall due the problem
I have always had a love/hate relationship with my 2008 honda accord ex-l (4cyl). besides being recalled for the automatic transmission control module software update, premature brake/rotor wear (more than i care to count, honestly), battery/electrical issues, srs module failure that honda refused to fix/address/recall (i had to pay $600 out of pocket on that one), i am now battling with high oil consumption.... consistently. although, this has recently been voluntarily recalled for the issue, i am outside the 125k mile warranty term. i am currently at 172k miles. i religiously get an oil change every 3k miles. every 2k miles i need to add a quart of oil. this has been an ongoing issue since around 60k miles. honda and multiple mechanics confirmed there is no oil leak and honda insisted the car is not burning it..... despite what other mechanics have told me. yet, here i am "burning" a quart of oil every 2k miles. just recently, after a few minutes of driving and after about 1500 miles after an oil change, my engine started making a "pinging sound." then the oil pressure light started flashing. i immediately pulled over and turned the engine off to find that the oil (per the dipstick) was low again! i understand the car is getting up there in mileage but the thing looks brand new and i have always kept up on the maintenance. there is no reason it should be "burning" the oil as quickly as it is for as long as it has. very disappointed in honda not addressing the issue when i brought it to their attention several times in the past. now they issue a recall and cut the mileage off at 125k? like i said, love/hate. i will not be purchasing another one.
Ever since i purchased the vehicle in 2010 i quickly realized that there was a high oil consumption problem with it because i have had to constantly put it more oil before the next oil change. finally, in 2012 i took it a honda dealer to have it checked. but i was told there was nothing wrong and no recall. again december 2014, last year, i had an oil consumption test done at the suggestion of honda bu the corporate gatekeeper told me i was out of warranty and my problem will not be covered. guess what? september 2015, i received warranty extention notice for high oil consumption due to a sticking piston. the catch is that it was only for 125000 miles when i have already reached 153000 miles. i believe they should cover my vehicle because i was already in the system.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that there was excessive internal oil leaking from the engine. the contact stated that the oil was repeatedly changed four or more times. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the piston rings needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 173,000. updated 04/14/16*lj the consumer stated oil had to constantly be added to the vehicle. *js
The engine rattles at cold start-up. since approximately september 1, 2015, the engine on my 2008 honda accord ex-l (4 cylinder) has created a loud rattle every time under cold start-up conditions. the noise goes away after approximately 2 seconds and the engine smooths out. i took the vehicle to a honda dealer for another issue in january 2016 and asked them to investigate the cold start-up noise, but they claimed that the noise did not occur when they started the vehicle. i questioned whether they tried to start it under cold engine conditions and they said they had. i recently took the vehicle to an independent service center and they were able to hear the rattle at cold start-up and suggested that the problem might be caused by a defective variable valve timing control (vtc) actuator. honda issued a technical service bulletin (09-010) but i have not been able to get a honda dealer to address the issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. whenever the vehicle was started, the contact heard a rattling noise coming from the engine. the contact turned off and restarted the engine, and the noise was gone. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 106,000.
This is my second complaint about the oil consumption extended warranty. this issue began a year ago. on 8/15/2015, honda offered and extended warranty for the piston/vct issue that caused the car to consume too much oil. the extended warranty says.."if the vehicle is experiencing high oil consumption, contact any authorized honda dealer for and appointment to have it insepected and, if needed repaired. please plan to leave your vehicle at the dealer for two full days to allow them flexibility in scheduling." this quote is right from the warranty. a year later and honda will not honor this warranty. what they do is make the car have a oil consumption test. if the car is not burning more than a quart in 1000 miles they say its not a problem. honda mall of georgia claimed my car is burning 3/4 of a quart therefore this is not a problem. around 7/1/2016, i had my oil changed at gwinnett place honda. i am 1000 miles away from having my next oil change and the "grinding" noise hit my car again. my oil light came on. i checked and was down to 2quarts of oil. i had to add two quarts. bringing car in today 9/7/2016 to start yet another oil consumption test. honda knows this is an issue, yet will not honor the warranrty!!!!! they extended the warranty to get nhtsa off of its back yet writes unwritten rules that protects them from fixing the issue. the extended warranty is useless unless they fix the issue.
Aug 2015 heard a rattling noise from the engine. checked the dipstick and the engine was almost out of oil. this was in between oil changes at 3700 miles. i took the car in and had an oil change. i received a notice from honda about oil consumption issues. i began the oil consumption test with the dealer. so far, twice it has been down .75 qts. over 5k miles that would place the engine down 3.75 qts or almost dry, but honda says that's normal and i should be adding oil myself. that is ridiculous!!! why send out the notice and extend the warranty then. honda knows that this is an issue, but does nothing to fix the issue. i've read that it is worn piston rings do to a vcm timing issue. why is that the customers problem? the settled this owners of the v6, but told owners of the 4cyl to pound sand. this issue requires a recall. this is my first and last honda accord.
Loud cranking noise when cold starting the car regardless of date of last oil change. honda informed me it was the vtc actuator, which is a known problem based on online complains, but still no recall. many people have this same complaint at varying degrees of mileage.
At about 68,000 miles, i began hearing a disturbing mechanical rattle on cold starts. it got worse and worse until a recent trip to my honda dealer confirmed i have the vtc (?) valve rattle problem, and it is "currently under review by honda." from my research on honda owners forums, this affects a large number of models from 2008 on, and has been a known issue for several years now. i was told this issue does not affect engine performance or longevity, but it is disconcerting to have sounds like this emanating from my engine every day (it now happens every time i start the car). a call to honda confirmed honda knows about the problem, but they are "still working on a solution" (i don't know for how many years now). and no, they won't do anything for me, no compensation or even a fix i could possibly pay for. i would like to get rid of the car before something else happens, but no buyer will pay market value for it with this condition. i am also worried about safety because this issue could cause an engine seizure while driving. the problem keeps getting worse and i no longer trust honda is telling the truth.
Oil low at oil change.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving, the vehicle would not accelerate properly. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. the contact also indicated that the vtc actuator was faulty and caused the vehicle not to start occasionally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the actuator was replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 38,000.
First incident was on 6/14/2015. i was driving on the highway as my engine light came on and the car started shaking. i pulled over and turned the car off because it smelled like smoke. as i tried to turn the vehicle back on it would not cut back on. the car had to get towed and repairs had to be done to the tune of $1,500.00. the battery, gasket, plugs & alternator had to be replaced. second incident was on 7/17/2015. as i was making a left hand turn the car stalled & i was hit by another vehicle. all air bags deployed and burst. the right front wheel was pushed in.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving approximately 5 mph, the transmission shifted into the park position but the vehicle continued to coast. the contact shifted into reverse and noticed an abnormal noise coming from the engine. the contact was then able to park but when the vehicle was placed into the drive position, the engine shut off independently. the vehicle failed to restart. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the transmission and front mask failed needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 93,000. the vin was not available.
Engine rattling noise vtc issue. it is very annoying especially on clod start in the morning. i live in a complex and many neighbors complained about the irritating noise that my car makes before it starts. i have taken the car to a technician and he mentioned me the problem is a manufactory issue. i found tremendous amounts of honda accord from 2008-2012 with similar issue. i would like to complain about the problem that i faced with to honda. in addition i have not done any repair regarding this problem so far and i was told that only honda can fix that.
My model year 2008 accord coupe ex model has been burning oil for a long time. a few years ago i had the tsb completed on it that reprogrammed the computer and was supposed to fix the issue. as of now the car is still burning oil and has developed a new problem. my check engine light is on with error code p0341 which is for the cam position sensor. this is with combination of a loud rattle for a few seconds coming from the engine bay when the car is first started. i am concerned to drive the car and hope that honda could diagnose and fix this problem for me. i believe honda extended the engine warranty to 8 years and 125,000 miles.
the outer race of the secondary shaft bearing is broken according to my mechanic and is causing abnormal noise, the malfunction indicator light is turn on and the car has stalled on me. and once when i have placed the car in the park position it has rolled on me... updated 09/30/15*bf
Takata recall, excessive oil consumption, vtc actuator loud grinding on start up cold or warm!!!!! honda would not fix because i was 15,000 miles over their grace period. i asked for good will and a big company that honda is sure won't go bankrupt fixing my car.... but the girl i talked to was some what rude to me and just asked if i wanted the better business beau phone number. their needs to be a class action law suit for the replacement of the vtc actuator, because sooner or later i will have engine failure and honda knows about the problem. i have read 90% of the 2008 4 cylinder accords have the problem and some of the newer models have the same problem. and i have heard they will replace the part, and soon after it does it again!!!! defective part!!!! i hope i can get some help, because honda knows about the problem and i cant afford a new engine when the timing chain goes and everything with it!!!! thank you.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact heard a grinding noise coming from the engine when the vehicle was started. the failure recurred every morning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vtc actuator control needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,838.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while starting the vehicle, an abnormal knocking sound emitted from the engine. the failure recurred multiple times intermittently. also, while driving at approximately 60 mph, the knocking sound could be heard from the engine. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for an oil change which stopped the knocking sound. after 2000 miles the failure recurred, and the oil warning light illuminated. the contact replenished the vehicle with 2 quarts of oil, and the knocking sound stopped. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
