I purchased a new 2008 honda accord lx-p in october 2007. six months later, brakes started squeaking. december 2008, the rear brakes needed replacement according to the dealer. four months and 4500 miles later, brakes squeaking again. brake pads need to be changed again. they wear out way too fast. never had this problem on any other vehicle (including other hondas i own/owned). google "2008 honda accord brakes" and you will find over 670+ complaints about the premature brake pad wear from carcomplaints from accord owners throughout the country. there is also a class action lawsuit on this very issue in california! please, please, please investigate this issue. honda more than has the resources to cure this manufacturing/design defect. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. whenever the contact would apply the brakes he noticed a screeching sound coming in the rear of the vehicle. the failure occurred while driving various speeds including approximately 35 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the failure could not be reproduced. the current and failure mileages were 37000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the vehicle was purchased less than six months ago and the contact already has to install new brake pads. the brake pads are not holding and are wearing out faster than they should. the dealer advised him to purchase new brake pads because they were worn. the failure mileage was 21,456.
Brakes on a 2008 accord coupe wore out in the rear much earlier than expected. i found them to need replacing at 27,500 miles. brake pads were worn down and needed replaced. they are too small for the size and weight of this vehicle. this is a safety hazard that is being ignored by honda. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving approximately 65 mph the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and felt a vibration in the vehicle. the contact inspected the vehicle and replaced the brake pads and the rotors. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance approximately eight months after he replaced the brake pads and rotors. the technicians inspected the vehicle and stated that the brake pads, rotors and calipers needed to be replaced. the contact stated that there was a defect in the calipers because the brake pads should not have to be replaced that often. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
Brought car in dealership for squeaky brakes at approx. 4,000 miles. after the inspection, was told rear pads needed to be replaced and were covered under 12,000 mile warranty. a few days later noticed squeaky noise coming from the front. brought car back and front pads were replaced. a few days after that, noise came back, and dealership replaced both brake pads and rotors. two weeks later noise was back again and need to bring back to dealership. also considering writing to honda regarding lemon law claim. *tr
Car purchased 11/21/08. on or about 12/10/08, brakes began to make a loud, squeaking, squealing noise, and began to fade, esp. going around corners, uphill, and on parking garage surfaces. i am very concerned about them fading and having to release and re-brake from any speed. they are loud, getting louder, persistently loud and fading and very often, braking inadequately from all speeds ! car has been in 4 times to dealer and dealers records will indicate that they supposedly repaired and finally replaced parts. i spoke to american honda ( manufacturer's main office) on march 12, 2009 and was told incredibly, that they did not know how to fix the problem, would not do anything further to try to fix the problem, were not interested in having the area representative see the car in person, and had no replacement, recall or buyback program for this problem!!! i feel very unsafe and upset in this car! *tr
Rear brake pads on2008 honda accord worn out causing worn brake indicator to contact rear brake disc causing rotor damage after only 14,000 mile on odometer. honda dealer said that it was normal brake pad wear, however the front brake pad was not worn at all. everybody knows that the front brakes wear down much faster than the rear brakes pads. i had honda change the brake pad since i needed the car back on the road quickly. fast forward to the next year-i checked the brake myself and found the rear brakes worn out again. the wear pattern on the rear brake pad is very uneven. one side is completely worn down while the other edge of the same pad is not worn at all. this leads me to believe that this is a design flaw of the brake system, not the brake pad. i have replaced 4 sets of rear brake pad on my 2008 accord so far. i have tried using different aftermarket brake pads to no avail. i hope this complaint get heard by honda. many mad honda owner are out there complaining about the rear brake problem. *tr
2008 honda accord lxp currently has 17000 miles. i am having 3 issues: 0 miles to current miles: headlights power surge or "flicker" when a/c is engaged every 30 seconds-45 second. this is very distracting while driving at night. honda technician stated that this is normal because car is engineered to "save power" by doing this so no excessive strain is put on alternator. 9750 miles: air conditioning system had to be evacuated of freon and recharged due to contamination of coolant. air conditioning still functions very poorly and intermittently blows warm air/cold air as it did before. honda states air conditioning system functions per specs. 12500 miles- rear brake pads required replacement due to premature wear. car is carefully driven and maintained and i've never had to replace brakes this early on a vehicle. dealer cost $154. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a loud whistling and scraping sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the rear brakes needed to be replaced. the brakes were replaced, but the failure has recurred nine months later. through research, the contact discovered that this was a common issue and believes that a recall should be issued by the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 20,000 and current mileage was 28,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. two weeks after the vehicle was purchased, the contact heard a screeching sound when she applied the brakes at 15 mph. the dealer stated that the noise was normal due to the material used for the brakes and that the sound would eventually go away. the brakes and pads on the vehicle were completely worn out at 8,000 miles; however, no brake failure has occurred. the screeching noises coming from the rear of the vehicle never ceased. the contact can currently hear the noise even when the brake pedal is not being depressed. the dealer stated that the rear brake lining on the rear passenger side was down two millimeters, which meant that new rear brakes were needed. the contact also believes that the brakes were stuck on the calipers, causing the brake pads to wear more quickly then they should. this would mean that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect. the contact believes that the vehicle should not be experiencing brake issues at such a low mileage. she spoke with the manufacturer and they refused to acknowledge any failure or provide assistance with the repairs. the failure mileage was 8,000 and current mileage was 20,000. updated 3/13/09 *cn updated 03/17/09. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. when the brake pedal was depressed at any speed, the brakes made a very loud grinding noise. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the rear brakes were worn prematurely. the brake pads and rotors were replaced, but the failure recurred 20,000 miles and six months later. the vehicle is currently in the shop having the brake pads and rotors replaced again. the contact believes that a recall should be issued. the failure mileage was 18,000 and current mileage was 38,000.
2008 honda accord ex-l v6 bought august 2008, brakes started squealing after 6,000 miles. car currently has roughly 11,000 miles on it. have had into dealership more than three times to rectify the brake squealing. honda claims there is nothing they can do. find others on the internet with the same problem. come to find out it is premature brake wear on the rear brake pads. honda corporate says that they and i are at an impasse and they won't do anything. in a nutshell, i'll be replacing brake pads every 12,000 miles just to maintain a safe vehicle! no deaths yet, but i won't let my 8 month old baby in the car anymore for fear that if my brakes do fail, i don't want her to be injured. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. as she was driving 45 mph there was a grinding noise when shifting from second to third gear. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they found the third gear grind synco was worn out. the dealer informed her that this was a part of the automatic transmission and it will be repaired under the warranty. she also stated that she had brake failure as she depressed the brakes when they extended to the floor. the dealer had to replace the brake pads at her expense for $116. the manufacturer was not contacted in regards to any of these failures. the failure mileage was 35,000.
I bought 2008 honda 2008 in feb 2008, replaced rear pads in oct 2008 at 22,000 miles. i spoke w/ service department where i bought my car. he told me they are having alot of problems w/ the 2008 accord's rear brakes and that it was not covered under warranty. had to buy new pads from dealer (b/c no aftermarkets were available). in sep 2009, squeaking from the rear brakes again, rear pads needed to be replaced at 41,000 miles. went to dealership again to complain, service manager said that they were an independent franchise and that honda would have to take care of my problem. he also stated that honda was aware of the problem and they were researching the problem. called honda corporation and the case investigator said the exact same thing as the service manager. i went to the nhtsa web site and saw that i am not alone. it appears that honda and its employees are towing the company line and stonewalling the consumer, because it will cost them money and hurt their reputation. the nhtsa needs to force honda to do the right thing and fix the problem before someone is injured or even worse, killed. these are brakes, the most important safety device on any car. *tr
My 2008 honda accord (ex, v6 model) needed new rear brakes at 15,000 miles! rear brakes were replaced at the cost of $250. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving approximately 25 mph, the steering wheel started to shake and the rear brakes made a squeaking noise. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians replaced the rear brakes. the failure occurred five times. the vehicle was repaired four times. the contact stated due to the problem with the brakes the rotors also needed to be replaced the last time the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated the brakes failed without warning making it difficult for the vehicle to stop. the manufacturer was contacted and reimbursed half of what was spent on repairs. the last time the failure occurred the brakes were repaired but the rotors were not. the approximate failure mileage was 300.
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. when applying pressure to the brake pedal he heard metal grinding. he had to use increased braking distances when decelerating. the rear brakes were replaced twice. none of the repairs have remedied the failure. the failure mileage was 20000. the current mileage was 53000.
2008 honda accord has premature brake wear. brakes need to be recalled. honda needs to take responsibility for this defect!!! rear brakes wear out after only 20,000 miles. this is the second time i've had to replace rear brakes and rotors. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while exiting a ramp he heard a loud squealing noise during brake application. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on five separate occasions for identical failures. the technician was unable to determine the cause of failure. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 500. the current mileage was 20,000.
We purchased a 2008 honda accord exl in 09/2008. vehicle is used to commute to work and majority of the miles are highway. vehicle is driven normally. at approx. 17500 miles, we were told the rear brakes need to be replaced because of wear on the brake pads. front brakes are fine. talked to other honda accord owners who are experiencing the same problem. the rear brakes are defective and of poor quality. honda dealership is willing to pay 1/2 of the service charge. *tr
2008 honda accord brake rotors had to be resurfaced at 14,000 miles and again at 22,000 miles. dealer and manufacturer are not willing to be responsible for this problem on a car that is mostly highway driving and requires comparatively little use of the brakes. suspect poor quality metals in the rotors as every car or truck ever owned has lasted 60,000 + miles before requiring this work. *tr
I bought a 2008 honda accord brand new, in july 2008 & from day 1 it had squealing brakes. i have asked so many honda dealers as i move with my job & all of them were never able to fix it & the issue is so common with a lot of customers http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml the link above is just a fraction of the large number of honda owners. i did file a complaint about this with honda last year & they cam back saying they did not have a fix at the moment. the issue did not stop there now i'm having premature brake wearout in less than 24000 miles my rear brakes wore out & i replaced them. i'm mad about the fact that every time you hit the brakes they squeal like !@#$%. please help me with this. i'm paying a lot for this car & need some justice. *tr
On june 15, 2009, i detected the rear brake indicators sounding, i immediately took the honda accord to the dealership i purchased the car and was told the brakes needed to be replaced. the vehicle has 21559 mile and just at a year old. the service manager told me that this is common with 2008 honda accords and that it is not covered under the warranty. i have seen online that this is a common complaint with honda accords. the price to replace the rear brakes was 300 dollars. *tr
Low maintenance cost to own.... wrong!!! rear brake pads worn at 13,000 miles. i contacted honda of america, and boy! i got the run around. in 2004 i have purchased a civic around 22,000 miles i started seeing brake problem and also purchased a denali and no problems until 27,000 mile change pads. i have a 1 and the half and five year old boy, my concern is for the safety, malfunction in the r&d stage. honda made a new modification on 2008 models braking system, without letting the consumer know. *tr
My step daughter bought 2008 honda accord, brand new. at 17,870 miles we had to replace the rear brakes( 06/09/08). at 34,648 miles ( 02/05/09) the rear brakes had to be replaced again. now, at 53,575 miles, 01/05/10, the rear brakes have to be replaced for the third time. i took the vehicle back to the dealer where the vehicle was bought from and was told that american honda knew of the problem but it was a wear issues and the replacement would be at our cost. i contacted american honda and a case file was opened. on 01/04/10,i spoke with jay pasquin, case manager and he stated he would look into this problem. i haven't heard back from him as of 01/06/10. now the vehicle shakes when the brakes are applied. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated when driving at approximately 60 mph, there were unusual vibrations and the vehicle would abnormally veer toward the right. the dealer rotated the tires but the vehicle then began to veer toward the left. the dealer realigned the front suspension but to no avail. in addition, the brakes would sporadically squeal when depressed. the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. the dealer replaced the rotors twice but the failure persisted. the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure persisted. the failure mileage was 50 and the current mileage was 24,800. on july 26, 2010, the check engine light, vsa and an exclamation warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. the vehicle began idling erratically and the vehicle kept wanting to cut as the consumer approached traffic lights. upon inspection of the vehicle, it was determined there was a problem with the cylinder. the spark plugs and cylinder were replaced. updated 08/10/10
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord purchased march 2008. the rear brake pads were replaced four times in a period of two years. the front brake pads and rotors were replaced once on the vehicle. a representative of the manufacturer stated the brake pads only last for 2500 miles. there were no recalls listed for the failure. the failure mileage was 4,000. the current was 58,000.
2008 honda accord exl-v6 4 door automatic transmission - 8,310 current mileage the 2008 honda accord brake system is defective...see complaints http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml i bought my car brand new on 08/20/08. within months of the purchase the front brakes were replaced and now the rear brakes have a continuous squealing sound. i brought the car in for service but the service rep at the dealer said that it was a known problem and not a safety issue so i should contact honda directly. i have made numerous phone calls to both herb chambers honda in burlington ma ,where i purchased the car, and honda corporation and they have both flat out refused to fix the problem but have both admitted that there is a problem with the brakes again reiterating that it's "not a safety issue". the do not have a time frame as to when a fix will be forthcoming. this is unacceptable! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving 20 mph, she heard a thumping noise when she applied the brake. the contact stated that the thumping noise got louder as she continued to drive. the dealer stated the passenger side rear rotor caused the failure and made the replacement. approximately three weeks later the failure occurred again. the dealer stated that passenger side rear rotor caused the failure. in addition, they stated that she wasnt driving the vehicle enough because there was a lot of rust around the wheel. as of may 5, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. the failure mileage was 600 and current mileage was 825.
I am concerned about me rear brakes in my 2008 honda accord ex v6. i had to replace them after owning the car only 6 months. i never replace the rear brakes on any other car that i have owned; always just the front brakes. i feel that this is a safety issue and that the brakes need to be recalled. the brakes also wore out only on the inside of both sides and not worn at all on the outside. maybe if they wore evenly they would last longer. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that she heard squeaking when applying pressure to the brake pedal, and then the vehicle began to shake. the break failure could lead to increased stopping distances, which increased the risk of a vehicle crash. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and a technician replaced the rear brake pads. the failure mileage was 19,800 and the current mileage was 20,700.
Took my 2008 honda accord to the dealer due to squeeky brakes, the told me i needed rear pads and the rotors need resurfacing......the car only has 13,500 miles on it !!!! what a joke. i have gone under numerous websites and have read the complaints of other consumers with the exact problem..... *tr
I purchased a new 2008 honda accord from what is now known as bel air honda. i had less than 50,000 miles when i had two sets of rear brake pads replaced. the 2nd set was replaced with a 3rd. at approx. 37,000 miles and the replacement was at my expense. the first two times i was reimbursed for the install, but the 3rd time the dealer and honda said sorry this ones on you. i feel this expenditure should not have been mine to pay. in less than 50,000 miles i had two power steering pumps replaced. the 4th time the steering box also was damaged and it to replaced. this last time i was told this again was my expense so again their problem became mine. this time the dealer, bel air honda said lucky i bought the extended warranty or the cost to me would have been approximately $1,600.00. my worry is that i could have a steering or brake failure while on the interstate causing an injury to me or someone else. i have voiced my concerns to both american honda and bel air honda. they blame one another regarding the mechanical failures to my car. the dealer said honda sent them defective parts and honda said its a install problem. i have sent and spoke to many representatives of honda motors and there response to me amounted to them suggesting things will be getting better and hang in there. so i have a car that i feel unsafe driving that no one seems to be concerned with. their philosophy seems to be, get it repaired and maybe you'll have better luck next time. my honda is true and its been a total sad experience for me. their the goliath and i'm david with no recourse to the total disregard to my on problem. honda probably has a good track record, but if you are having a serious problem with their car like i have, you get no satisfactory help from the automobile giant. there is a lot more to this sorry situation, but i am or will go over the limit i am allowed in this complaint memo. your help in getting my story told will be appreciated. updated ivoq 09/07/11. *kb
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while test driving the vehicle, the front end shook while the brake pedal was depressed. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they installed new rotors and brake pads. the failure remained and the vehicle was returned to the dealer for the second time. the dealer stated that the rotors needed to be turned. the failure still persists. the current mileage was 1,300 and failure mileage was 317.
'08 accord ex-l 2 door. inside rear brake pads shot after 15,000 miles. outer rear pads look like new, so do front pads. dealer says this is normal. this problem shows up all over the web by typing "08 accord brakes" dealer won't fix under warranty. i don't use the parking brake. this is not right. what do you say? *tr

I purchased my 2008 honda accord on 10/16/07. at 412 (10/30/07) miles i had severe brake squeal that only occurred under light to medium braking. i took the car into the dealership and was informed that the rear rotors were glazed over (as if the parking brake was on - which we do not use). they machined the rotors and replaced the pads. at 1441 (11/30/07) the rear brake squeal was back. the dealership then replaced the rotors and scuffed the pads (per honda's direction). again at 2332 (1/22/08) i took it in for brake squeal. they informed me that the squeal was not load enough to determine where it was and that they did not have a fix even if they could find it. they told me to continue to drive the car until it got louder. i continued to drive the car and it continued to squeal with every braking attempt. at 16589 (2/20/09) i took the car in again to see if they had a fix. at that time i was told that the rear brakes were worn down to the metal (only the inner pads on both sides), the rotors were gouged and the dust boots had melted off allowing dirt to get into the pistons and leak brake fluid. this was not detected during my normal tire rotations. they replaced the pads, rotors and calipers and told me that the problem would be back (diagnosed by the dealership as premature rear brake failure). four days after i got the car back the squeal was also back. our car is typically driven by my wife with our 15 month old son in it. i am worried that since the squeal is always there that the detection level for this failure is very low. i consider this a major safety issue with this car and am worried about my wife and son along with all the other people complaining about this issue on carcomplaints.com. this is the number one complaint with all cars manufactured (new and old) in the last 90 days. please thoroughly investigate this safety issue on the 2008-2009 honda accords. if you have any questions or need more information, please do not hesitate to contact me. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the rear wheel bearings and brake rotors began functioning at a higher temperature than normal which caused the rear brakes to prematurely wear down. the vehicle was never taken to the dealer to be inspected or repaired. the manufacturer informed him to contact the attorney generals office in louisiana in order to receive a refund on the brake pads due to a class action law suit that was settled. the vehicle was never repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 17,000. the current mileage was 46,000.
