2008 accord ex coupe v6. vehicle is driven daintily, mostly at highway speeds. at 26000 noticed a vibration in steering while braking from 60mph to 30mph. took car to dealership. rear brakes pads were gone, and front rotors were warped. dealer replaced pads and machined and turned rotors. at 38000 miles vibration returned. took car to dealership. dealer replaced front and rear rotors were now warped. replaced front pads, rear pads, front and rear rotors. at 46000 miles vibration returned. sought an independent mechanic who noted that the rotors and pads were too small for a vehicle that heavy with electronic brake balancing and vehicle stability assist. installed aftermarket pads and rotors. issue has not returned. *tr
Heard metal grinding noises; assumed it was the brakes. i took it in to honda for an inspection. i was told the rear brakes needed to be replaced. brakes should not have to be replaced after one yr four months - especially rear only. front brakes should go first on front wheel drive. was told it was designed that way. owned two other accords in past. brakes last two - three years. we should be informed of this before purchase. replacing brakes are expensive. heard same complaint from two other same model/year owners. *tr
Bought my 2008 accord in october 2007. shortly after buying i noticed the brakes squeaked upon stopping especially in rain and cold. i never had it looked at, because to be honest the brakes worked and i didn't want the headache of taking the car in to be looked at. then at roughly 23,500 miles i started hearing a high pitched noise and upon braking it would feel like sand was grinding in my brakes. it came and went for a few days, so i had the car looked at and was told i needed new rear brakes. goodyear didn't even have the brakes available so to make it less expensive i picked the brakes from honda and goodyear put them on. it's been about two months and even with the brakes working i still have a squeak when stopping, especially in the cold. it's sooo '!@#$% annoying. this is a new car, a nice car, and i shouldn't have this problem. it's to the point where i regret buying the car. this is my third accord in a row, and my last two were definitely better cars, even if i bought them used. never have i had brake issues like this. *tr
Rear brake pads prematurely wear out every 15,000 miles. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving approximately 65 mph, the contact applied the brakes but the vehicle did not respond immediately. a couple seconds later, the vehicle slowed down. the failure occurred several times. the vehicle had not been inspected when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was approximately 11,000. the current mileage was approximately 23,000. updated 06/03/10*bf the consumer stated honda replaced the rear brakes free of charge as there have been several complaints of pre-mature brake wear. updated 06/09/10.*jb
I have a 2008 honda accord, purchased new in august of 2008. it has 20244 miles. the rear brakes are failing need new pads and the rotors need to be turned. it appears to be a common problem. this is exceedingly early and i think that it is a design or manufacturer's defect. *tr
The first time the rear brakes on my 2008 honda accord needed service was at 20,268 miles. the notified that the rear brakes were wearing unevenly. the dealer replaced the rear pads at no cost. i just replaced the rear pads at 53,347 miles for $214.50. *tr
Rear brake pad(s) producing highly audible squeaks and have worn out prematurely, much like other complaints posted regarding the same. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that the rear brakes had to be replaced four times within two years. the second time the brakes were replaced, the contact was advised by the dealer that the previous brake pads were inferior. the contact then spoke with the manufacturer and was told that the cable to the emergency brake would need to be released slightly, but there was no way to make the correction. the contact also stated that the door latches were also replaced several times. the failure mileage was 18,822 and the current mileage was 48,569.
I have a 2008 honda accord with 28,000 miles on it. with such low mileage, i had to replace to rear brake pads. the dealer tried to tell me it was my driving, which i knew it wasn't. i found an internet site that lists complaints, and just from the one website, there were 85 complaints about premature rear brake pad failure on this car. it is a known honda defect! i called american honda and they said the company was working on a "fix" but had no other information. i will continue to monitor honda.com for updates. this is a honda issue that they need to take ownership of, and i expect to be repaid for my expenses. hopefully my dealership will do something for me, but i won't hold my breath. i'm not sure if i checked the correct box "service brakes, air" because i've never heard them referred to as that, but this complain is about my rear brakes. *tr thank you.
When i am going at least 35mph or above and apply firm pressure to the brakes my car makes a rattling noise. it now occurs everyday when i drive the vehicle. i went to the dealership and they put new rotors on the vehicle at about 7,000 miles. *tr
At 15,580 miles the rear brake pads on my 2008 honda accord exl v-6 sedan were worn down and needed to be replaced. the front pads are fine. i have driven various other vehicles and have never had to replace the brake pads after so short of a mileage. the service consultant at my honda dealer showed my the pad and they are very small. i was informed by my honda dealer that the pads are too small and they are wearing out faster. i believe this to be a defect in the design and i have also filed a complaint with american honda. i would never have checked my pads so early had i not been at the dealership. this is potential safety issue as well. i was lucky and caught the problem before an accident, but brake pads should not need to replaced on a 1- year old car with this low of mileage. *tr
2008 honda accord, 4 door, v6 - premature brake wear. the rear brake pads on my car are now needing replacement at only 12,500 miles. i have called american honda and they say this is only a maintenance item and not currently a recall or warranty repair item. with brake pads wearing this quickly people will not be able or willing to pay for replacement/repair on a timely basis. this will lead to these cars being on the highway without adequate brakes. my wife and i are experienced drivers and have owned honda vehicles for 25+ years. we have never had this type of premature brake wear with honda or any other type of vehicle. the major issue is the potential for these cars to be on the highway with inadequate brakes. the inconvenience and tremendous cost of replacing brake pads this frequently will lead to this situation. this is a financial hardship that may lead to a dangerous situation for consumers. *tr
Premature rear brake pad wear. with 18900 miles on my 2008 honda accord ex 4cyl, the brakes started to squeal. i took my car to the car dealer where i purchased the car. the advisor informed me that this is normal and not covered under warranty. i did not agree with his assessment but i proceeded with his recommendation to replace the rear brake pads. i researched this issue on the internet and found the site, http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml after reading the complaints on this site, i believe this is an issue that honda should acknowledge. i filed a complaint with honda corp and was given a case number. *tr
Most of my driving is highway miles. at 29500 the rear brakes needed to be replaced already. the vehicle was not even 1 year old and the rear brakes go out first. usually on my most cars front or rear wheel drive cars, the front brakes tend to go out faster than the rear brakes. after doing research it turns out, i am not the only problem with this issue on this car. turns out as well the dealerships know of this issue as well. and the fact the part that needs to be replace the brake pads and resurfacing the router is all wear and tear products. so this does not cover the manufacture warranty. i would understand on a normal circumstance if the brakes naturally wore out that you would have to pay for the repair regardless. which was what i expecting when i dropped of the car for the problems but for the rear brakes to go back this early and this soon and then charge the customer for 200-300 for the fix and no warranty, that's really silly. *tr
I only have 19000 miles on my car and i already need new brake pads. i talked to honda and it is not covered under warranty. also, i talked to another mechanic for a second opinion and he showed me the brake pads and rotors. the rotors were fine but the brake pads were almost completely gone. the inside pads were thinner then the outer pads which leads me to believe that there is a defect in my brakes. also the bottom of the pads are thinner then the top of the pads due to a slightly tilting caliper. yet this is not covered under warranty. *tr
The rear brakes of my 2008 honda accord have worn out prematurely. (32230 miles) the dealership stated it is normal for this car because the rear brake pads are built very small and thin. after checking the internet, it seems that the normal wear is between 20000 and 30000 miles. the average american driver simply can not believe that the problem they are having, such as noise and vibrations is due to rear brake wear at such low mileage. it is my opinion that the braking system on the 2008 honda accord is of poor design and possibly a safety issue. please give consideration to investigating the braking system of the 2008 honda accord. *tr
The brakes on my 2008 honda accord lx had to be replaced at 13,000 and again at 25,000 miles. this is crazy and i believe this is a defect. at anywhere from $160. to 250. each time - it's a total rip off and deceitful. *tr
Premature rear brake pad wear on 2008 honda accord exl v6. multiple websites stating that this is a common problem some stating that honda corp. is aware but is not willing to do anything about it. i had to replace rear brakes @ 25,000 miles which are 90 percent freeway miles. this is not acceptable. i recommend you do a google search to see how many people are affected by this problem. *tr
2008 honda accord ex-l v6 rear brakes wore out, needing to be replaced, at 15,000 miles. *tr
I purchased a 2008 honda accord in may of 2008, and with 18,000 miles i already had to put new back brake pad on. the dealer also told me that my front brakes will need to be replaced about 25,000 miles. i have owned lots of cars, and i have never had to replace brake so often. *tr
I have a 2008 honda accord and have only drive 15000 miles (mostly highway) and now i have to replace the brakes due to a manufacturing defect made by honda. the corporate office is aware of the problem and is "looking into it" but by the time they get finished with their investigation i will probably have spent one thousand dollars on brake maintenance. i hope your agency can look into this matter and pressure honda into correcting their defects. *tr
2008 honda accord 4cyl sedan rear brake pads wearing out in 18,000 miles. the dealership came up with some poor reasons including my driving skill level as to the reason why. not covered by warranty and honda replacement brake shoes are not available except at dealership. i found a website called auto beef where at least 55 others had similar experiences. seems like they changed the rear brake design to a flawed one and don't want to admit they screwed up and can cause serious damage and likely injury left to its own resolution. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that rear brakes were worn. the rear brakes were replaced twice; at 22,000 miles and the second time the mileage was 37,000. the front brakes were functioning properly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs on the rear brakes. the dealer informed the contact that the wear on the brakes was normal. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 22,000. the current mileage was approximately 42,000. updated 05/18/10. *lj updated 06/03/10*bf updated 06/09/10.*jb
Took car in for oil change at 20,718 was told my rear brakes need to be replaced. service manager told us this was not under warranty and i was responsible for the brake cost. this seems to be a problem with the 08 accord. honda needs to address the issue, brakes should not need replaced this soon. *tr
Premature rear brake wear out on 2008 honda accord. occurs on most 08 accords at 15,000 to 30,000 miles. consequence: some people would not replace because it would be totally unexpected to have the wear at low mileages. accidents have resulted. *tr
Took car in for 15k work. car had actual mileage of 19k. was told i needed rear break pads was told this was normal for this car. i have had 2 other honda accords with 3 year leases and never had to touch the brakes. the brake pads were wore down on one side, was ok on the other side was told this model (2008 accord) now has disc breaks, were other models had drum brakes. brake pads were replace, i do have the old parts. i feel, to replace brake pads after 19k miles is not correct. most of my driving is highway. *tr
2008 honda accord, started making horrible scraping noise after just 15k miles. went to dealer for service and was told that the new 08 accords have alloy wheels and coupled with the salt in the air from living near the beach causes the noise. come to find out the rear brake pads were metal to metal and cost 287.01 to be replaced at my expense. i complained that the brakes should not be going out this soon and was told that it is my driving habits that caused the brakes to go out so soon. *tr
Squealing noise from rear brakes after 26,000 miles. inside rear pads excessively worn. *tr
I own a 2008 honda accord with a little over 13,000 miles on it. the rear brakes are completely worn down and need to be replaced. i've done some research on the internet and have found that this is a huge issue with this particular car. honda needs to recall this, because it is an obvious defect in design that my local dealer refuses to fix under warranty. i have yet to call honda, but from what everybody else has said, honda will do nothing to fix the problem. *tr
2008 honda accord / premature wearing of rear brakes / vehicle has 19000 miles on it and the dealer tells me that the rear brakes need replaced / this is totally unacceptable due to the fact that the front brakes are fine / honda definitely has a design flaw here and they should be made to rectify the problem / there are many other complaints on the internet in regards to this issue. http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml. *tr
2008 honda accord ex 4cyl. w/ 23k has extreme brake wear in rear. inside pad is good, outside is down to metal. *tr
I have a 2008 honda accord with 33,140 miles on it, predominantly highway miles. the brakes started grinding. after an inspection, i'm told that all my brake pads and rotor are completely worn and all need to be replaced. this unacceptable. brake pads and rotor should not wear out after 33,000 miles. while honda admits there is a problem, they will do nothing about it. *tr
2008 rear brake pads gone at 21,500 miles, mostly highway driving. i called the dealer where i bought the car from and was told that 1. it's not covered under warranty and 2. honda put smaller pads. i owned 6 new cars never had this problem, very disappointing with honda and if they don't fix this problem i'll never buy honda again.*tr
Rear brake pads are complety out after 15k miles. thonda does not want to cover it on the warranty. front pads are in perfect condition. *tr
2008 honda accord lx, premature rear brake pad wear. the first time i had them replaced my car had 14,000 miles, just bought it 5 month ago. second time was only 3 months later. dealer states, "normal " the problem is that it's the same brake pad and only one side wears out. it is hard to believe that a new car needs brake pad replacements every three months. the front brakes are still good. *tr
My rear brakes were replaced today after only 21k of wear ( worn down to the metal indicators). i was handed the line just like everyone else who's had this problem that since honda changed over to 4 wheel disc brakes the rear brake pads are thinner and therefore wear faster (my front brakes hat 50% left!). i don't buy it. why would honda, a manufacturer whose name is synonymous with "quality," make such an error in judgment. i have never in my life had to replace rear brakes before fronts. i'd never heard of such a thing until now. i'm glad i'm not the only person with this problem, however, i don't believe that honda cares enough to do anything about it. *tr
Defective rear brake pads. 2008 honda accord coupe exl with 12k miles. the car was bought in may 2008 and only has little over 12k miles on it and the rear brake pads already needs changing. i called the dealer where i bought the car from and was told that honda had bought on small pads in the back but there doesn't seem to be a fix in for the small pads and the brakes are not covered under warranty. i also did a search on the internet for similar problems and found that a lot of customers are complaining about the same issue. i feel that either honda needs to find a fix for the problem by doing a re-call on all cars with the same problem or they need to cover the fix under warranty. i don't think i or any other consumer can afford to have their brakes fix every 12k miles during this hard economic times. please check the provided link from other consumers complaining about the same issue. http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml. *tr
My honda accord 08 steering wheel vibrates and shakes as when i press on the brake traveling 60+ miles on the freeway. honda dealer told me that i should replace the brakes and i did but still has the same problem. i feel unsafe driving my car on the freeway. and replacing brakes when my car has only 20,000 miles does not make any sense to me. my steering wheel started to shake when the car had less than 10,000 miles on it. what should i do?? *tr
You have many complaints about premature wear out of 2008 honda accord rear brakes . here is one more . my rear brakes are completely worn out after 8 mos and 25000 miles of highway driving . front brakes are fine . dealer and regional rep say nothing is wrong and say this is normal . i was even told that highway driving wears out rear brakes first . that is an untrue statement . in over 45 years of car ownership of dozens of cars , many with rear disc brakes ,i have never replaced rear brakes before fronts . this is a safety problem . it is a tragedy waiting to happen . about a month before this defect was found by an independent shop , the car was returned to the dealer with a complaint about a scraping sound - dealer said nothing is wrong with the car and did not inspect brakes . there is deception going on here and corrective action is needed right away , before people are killed . i could supply more details . i suggest your agency contact me for an interview . i have a formal background in quality and safety . i have managed a contract for dot and a joint venture between raytheon and ford . i have replaced the rear pads at my own expense - not at a honda dealer . there are not yet after market parts available so the pads were replaced with the same honda junk that came with the car . few drivers expect brakes to wear so early , and have no reason to have brakes checked . there are thousands of 2008 accords running around with bad brakes in all likelihood . please act quickly . *tr
My 2008 honda accord that isn't even 6 months old needs two new rear break pads and a new rotor. honda wants $470 to fix it and none of it is covered through my warranty or my extended warranty. am i going to have to replace my brakes every 6 months? *tr
Premature rear brake wear on a 2008 honda accord ex-l. i had to change the rear brake pads at around 16, 000 miles. *tr
While driving on an interstate my car increased my normal braking so bad that the car completely stopped on a winter road, causing the cars behind me to almost hit me. i wasn't able to accelerate right away so i shut the engine off and back on, then i could release the brakes. it happened a second time 2 miles ahead. this was pretty annoying, scary and dangerous. the car is now at the shop, i'm waiting for the dealers call to see what they found.. honda's website (http://corporate.honda.com/press/article.aspx?id=4110 ) reads: "another key vsa function is recognizing emergency braking situations and almost instantly applying added braking force. this brake assist feature is controlled by a special logic in the system that determines when the pedal stroke and speed exceed a typical range - as they would in a panic stop...vsa is calibrated to function in a near-transparent manner, and in many cases a driver will not even be aware of its operation." well, these were not "panic stops" at all and i was very aware of its operation so was the people driving behind me. honda accord coupe 2008-v6 at5. *tr
Noise from rear of car, taken to local honda dealer for inspection. we were told that the rear brakes were worn and needed to be replaced at 24000 miles! repair was made. *tr
Honda accord 2008 sedan lx... there is a "metal grinding against metal" sound from the rear. went to authorized dealership only to be told that the rear brake pads are gone. i purchased this car new in april 2008. it has done only 13k miles. the dealer admits that it's very early to have rear brake pads worn out. looked online and found many consumers of 2008 accord facing the same issues. it's high time honda wakes up and acknowledges the fault. i cannot keep spending usd 300 every 10k miles to have the pads replaced, which on other cars need replacement once every couple of years. *tr
While traveling at high rate of speed on an interstate my vehicle struck a patch of black ice. the car's vehicle stability assist engaged, but i was unable to gain control, the vehicle spun repeatedly and left the roadway, striking a culvert and causing the side and side curtain airbags to deploy. i found out a week after getting my car back from repairs that the rear brakes were completely worn down to metal on metal with no prior warning and after only approximately 22,000 miles. i believe that this caused a significant safety issue and contributed to my accident. when the vehicle stability assist and brake assist function was engaged, i believe the worn state of the rear brakes as opposed to the almost new condition of the front brakes caused the back end of my car to swing around and spin out of control. this is a documented problem with the 2008 accords (on the internet), but amercian honda has yet to even admit that there is a problem. i am lucky that i was not severely injured or killed in that high speed crash. fortunately, the honda engineers that designed the airbags put more thought into their design than the engineers that designed a rear braking system that wears down after 20,000 miles. i currently have about 57,000 miles on my accord and have now replaced the rear brake pads and rotors twice. *tr
I own a 2008 honda accord ex-l and every since i have owned this car since the end of 2007 i have been experiencing rear brake problems every 3-4 months i have been having to replace rear brake pads and other owners of this same year accord have been experiencing the same issues and i can bring some of those owners to front with the same issues. the car is very hard to brake and salesman at some of the honda dealerships have acknowledged the problem but they do not want to do anything about this situation. i have a 10 month old child and this can be very dangerous with the issue of the rear brake pads and this to me is justification for a recall of the year of honda accords and just about every oil change the rear brake pads are needing to be replaced on top of having to pay a high car note i have to continue to pay car repair charges for this vehicle. *tr
1. i purchased an 08 honda accord new 2. rear brakes wear down prematurely, have to be replaced every 15k miles 3. honda is denying the issue, and making the customer pay to replace. *tr
Rear brakes gone at 25k and my car is only 1 yr old. none the less the repairs are not covered under warranty and according to local dealer ship honda decided to make the brake pads thinner. big mistake. this is my first honda and i am very disappointed. i will never purchase another one and apparently honda is not big on quality anymore. *tr
Abnormal rear brake wear. rear brakes wore out at 30,000 miles. *tr
