Problems with 2008 Honda Accord SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

On average, the 2008 Honda Accord starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC and its various aspects after 22 988 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC problems on 2008 Honda Accord

I am writing about my 2008 honda accord and their rear brake premature wearing down of pads. currently there are thousands of complaints on the internet. on carcomplaints.com there are 468 just on this issue alone. i am concerned for the safety of myself and others who are forced to drive around with faulty bake pads. i have spoken to honda's corporate office, and they are refusing to acknowledge that they have issues with their vehicles. the service manager at our dealership had even said himself that there are so many complaints that he receives all the time and that they are all regarding the premature wearing of the brake pads. *tr

I already have to replace the rear brakes at 17000miles on my new honda accord. the dealership charged me $400. i purchased a honda because of their reliability. this is unacceptable! i should not have to pay for new brake pads when it is a honda default! *tr

My 08 honda accord exl needed to be replaced with just under 24k miles. the inside rear pads were almost completely worn while the outside pads hardly had any wear at all. i googled accord brake problems and found a page on www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml that,to date, has 358 complaints on the brake problems. while i understand that brakes are designed to wear out, they normally don't need to be replaced until there are 40,000+.miles and it isn't normal for one brake pad to be completely worn while the other has little wear. this is obviously a design flaw but,to date, honda hasn't announced a recall.the car has a system to notify you when you need service. so far i have received several code a's for oil changes but no code b which among other service items, reminds you to check the brake system. as i understand it, this system is based on mileage.since the system hasn't notified me to check the brakes, i would think that's because honda, rightfully so, expects brake pads to last more than 24k miles. this is a safety problem. i caught it as many other drivers have. but what about the driver that only uses the system to tell him when to get service? are a few going to have to die before honda announces a recall? i hope not. *tr

2008 honda accord. rear brake noises. inspection revealed inner rear pad gone @27,000 miles. *tr

My 2008 honda accord has the rear brakes failing after 16,000 miles. after doing some research i realized that honda is ignoring a systematic problem that requires a recall. this is a serious safety issue if thousands of 2008 hondas have brakes that fail every 15,000 miles. example link to complaints: http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear-2.shtml. *tr

Our honda has less than 15,000 miles when i took it in for an oil change and was told that rear brakes had only 2% left on them. i was told i would need to pay for the brakes since they were not covered under warranty. i refused to pay for the brakes and honda came back with an offer to pay 75% of the cost. since brakes are a safety issue i felt i had no choice but to pay the 25%. another customer was replacing his brakes for the second time and he had only about 18,000 miles on his honda accord. i researched this problem and found out that many people are complaining about premature wearing of the rear brakes from mileage of 9,000 miles to 20,000. honda does not seem in a rush to fix this problem or compensate the customer. honda needs to back up their claim of quality. *tr

Owner of honda accord lx 2008. at 15,000 miles i experienced odd back noise (tinny, airy sound). dealer downplayed until test drive with me. checked brakes and informed me all 4 back pads were worn to the metal. replaced under warranty but i've since learned via internet that the rotors are too small so will probably have the same problem within a year. *tr

We are a first time honda car owner. we purchased our honda accord lx after extensive research which included consumer reports. at approximately 18k miles, we were informed by the honda service department that our back brakes were down to 10% remaining on the rear brake pads. at 23k miles, the honda service department advised that the brakes needed to be replaced. i complained to no avail to the dealership and to honda america who advised that they stand by the engineering and workmanship of their product and this is a normal wear and tear item. our driving habits are daytime highway miles and for rear brake pads to worn out at 23k is ridiculous and non-standard for the auto industry. we own a 2000 infinity i30 which required its first brake pad replacement at 110k miles, (actual need, not manufactures recommendation). honda has a good reputation for producing quality products; i hope they will seize this opportunity to build brand loyalty by doing what is right for the owners of their 2008 model year honda accord. if not, i will never buy another honda manufactured product. *tr

Just spent 256.77 getting new rear brake pads on my honda accord 08 that only has 22,000 miles on it. last week i started to hear a noise that sounded like metal scraping metal and as the week went on i heard the noise more and more. today when i heard it was my rear break pads i was shocked. two weeks ago i paid two hundred dollars to get my car serviced and they didn't mention anything wrong with my break pads, but now my break pads were 95 to 100% worn. that doesn't seem possible that nothing was wrong and then they were almost gone. the service guy told me that they would not have noticed this during servicing. why then was there a check saying my break pads were fine on my service form?? did they just check the box and not look. what did they do at my service appointment? i paid for an extended warranty, but that did me no good. this seems to be a large problem for 2008 honda accords so what are we owners going to get from honda? *tr

Premature wear on 2008 honda accord rear brakes. rear brakes are having to be replaced before the front brakes and the vehicle is only a year old and the mileage is 26,000. honda dealership insisted this is not a safety hazard and not fixing the problem or recommending customer have it fixed. recall *tr

Rear brake rotors warped prematurely at only 9104 miles, causing the vehicle to shake violently and making it difficult to come to a safe stop. rotors were not replaced by honda, but resurfaced instead. they also did not replace the pads. these repairs occurred on 07-23-2009. rear brake pads will also need to be replaced soon, as noted by the extremely rapid wear that is occurring (current mileage 13,320). *tr

I purchased a honda accord 2008 in january 2008. the car has less than 22,000 miles and the rear brakes were replaced on june 23, 2009. the car was in for general maintenance and tire rotation on 6/23/09, there was no mention of my brakes at that time. on july 10, 2009 there was a very loud screeching noise when backing up and it sounded like metal against mental, i was over fifty miles from my home. on my way home i placed a call to honda of bowie where i purchased the vehicle, and was informed to bring the vehicle in for service. on the next day the service advisor informed me it was my rear brakes and they had to be replaced. i questionned why are rear brakes going out on a car with less than 22,000 miles, and is it covered under warranty, when my husband has a chev with 66,000 and the rear brakes have not been replaced. when the tech check the brakes there on the "brake condition" sheet(left rear 0mms and on the right rear 1mms), now i'm not sure what those #s indicate, however, on the inspection checklist the rear brakes required "immediate attention". there is obviously a serious problem with the brakes on the 2008 honda accord. *tr

The rear brakes on my 2008 honda accord are wearing out far faster than seems reasonable. the first time they wore out was at approximately 14,000 miles while this second instance has happened at about 26,000 miles. the brakes start making a very loud metallic grinding noise and reduced braking power with almost no warning. honda's solution to this problem is to simply say it's normal brake wear on the vehicle and then require that the rotors be turned and the brake pads be replaced, after charging an absurd diagnostic fee. the front brakes on the vehicle have yet to require replacement and were still shown as having around 60% life at the most recent check. *tr

Premature wear on rear brake pads on 2008 honda accord; vehicle at 18,100 miles! *tr

I purchased my honda 2008 accord lx 4dr/4cyl in january of 2009. while driving it after 17,000miles i had odd brake noises from the rear of the car. when i took it to the dealership they told me my rear brake pads had worn to nothing. this is an alarming rate for rear brake pads. on all other cars i've owned i haven't had rear brake pads wear out before 40,000 miles. i had to have these replaced again at 32,000 miles. i believe there is something wrong with the rear brakes that is causing premature wear. my car has 37,000 miles on it, and the front brakes still have 8mm on them (only a wear of 2mm). shouldn't a front wheel drive have the front do most of the braking? why is the rear brake pads wearing so quickly while the front are still fine? this is incredibly frustrating and makes me fear for the safety of my wife on the road, as the rear brakes could be worn to nothing at any time. *tr

Rear disc brakes on a 2008 accord exl v6 have worn out at only 19,328 miles. inner pads on each side of axle are dramatically thinner than the outer pad, possibly indicating a proportioning problem. rear discs should not wear out so quickly and there appears to be numerous 08 and 09 accord owners with similar complaints about the rear braking system needing repair/replacement on a very frequent basis. complaints to honda have only yielded an explanation that they are conducting an 'investigation' and no further information is available. *tr

2008 honda accord w/ 36,000 miles. noise from rear brake pad wear indicators. rear brakes pads were wore down to wear indicator on one side of each rear disc with very little wear on opposite pad, "very uneven brake wear". honda of greeley in colorado did brake pad replacement with no corrections or mentions of a problem with uneven brake wear. front rotors at the same time had to be resurfaced due to warp, however there had not been enough pad wear to require replacement of pads. *tr

2008 honda accord. during normal service by selling dealer at 9,300 miles was notified that the rear brake pads need to be replaced. was told this was a problem with "this model". was not charged for this repair as was deemed a warranty issue. dealer has checked to be sure there has not been a re-design of pads- and there has not been. a check on consumer reports web site under the forum for honda shows this is a widespread problem. although most got at least 12 to 15 thousand miles. i live in hills which may explain part of the difference. having to replace rear brake pads every 9,000 or 10,000 miles is a safety problem. had i had the car serviced somewhere other than the dealer it might not have been looked for or discovered. a recall is needed and it is irresponsible for honda to not have done so at this point. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact took her vehicle to the dealer for an oil change and was informed that the rear brake pads were worn down to 2 millimeters. upon leaving the dealer, she noticed that the rear brakes where squeaking when the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the rear brake pads were worn. the vehicle was repaired at the cost of $159.74. she filed a complaint with the honda manufacturer, but no compensation was offered. the contact feels that the rear brakes are faulty because she uses the front brakes more than the rear. she further stated that the pads should not have worn down due to the low mileage on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 24,310 and current mileage was 24,480. updated 07/20/09 *bf updated 07/21/09. *jb

Defective rear braking system. *tr

Today when i had the car serviced by honda dealer, was advised that the rear brakes needed replacement at 19,000 miles. the majority of my driving, at least 80% is highway with very little stop and go. i have been driving for 40+ years and i never had this problem. my last car, a toyota camry, di not replace rear brakes until 90,000 miles. honda claims this is normal wear. *tr

I brought my 2008 honda accord ex-l 4 cyl in for the second routine maintenance on july 7, 2009. i was subsequently informed that my real brakes were shot, that i needed replacement pads and my rotors turned. i was astounded, i only had 14,897 miles on it. my front brakes were worn down to 7 mm out of 8mm! my rear pads were worn down to 1 mm of surface pad! they were basically gone! the red line for rear brake replacement is 3 mm or 4/32 for disc brakes. my brakes never squealed at all! no warning! no nothing?.. the service rep stated that they have been seeing these things as of late without any explanation or what might be causing it and that honda was aware of the problem. i told her that my understanding is that your front brakes primarily do the stopping of the car and that you should get at least 30-35,000 or more miles out of your rear brakes. ( my 2007 toyota camry has 40,000 on the rears and will need to be replaced shortly.) she said the brake replacement would run about $ 230+, but she would talk with the service manager to see if they could offer something off on the repair job, maybe split the cost. she stated that the car was over the 12 month/12,000 basic warranty which would have covered this problem. they gave me a free rental; i went to my office and found this site and all the horror stories. i called the service rep, she said that they would split the cost of the repair. i told her what i found out and that this was not acceptable. i told the rep that i wanted to speak with the service manager and the owner of the dealership. that i don?t think that i should pay for anything, that they knew there was a dangerous flaw with this car when they sold it to me. she also mentioned that a honda service representative was ...

I bought a 2008 honda accord ex-l v6 coupe, and after only 13,000 or so miles i began hearing a terrible metal on metal scraping noise coming from the rear wheel well. i contacted my local honda dealer who indicated this is a known problem in this make and model car, but that it was not on recall "yet". after one day of driving with the noise i felt a noticeable difference in my vehicle's breaking and highway driving. i informed the dealer of this and was told that any abnormal brake wear will effect my vehicles stability assist system (sas) which controls the vehicle's traction, speed, acceleration, etc.. when i took my car into a repair shop (not the dealer due to their absorbent prices) they notified me that my rear interior brakepad was worn down to the indicators. unfortunately i had to pay out of pocket to get this fixed because honda informed me this was not covered by warranty and despite the fact that it is a known defect they are not covering the cost because a recall is not in place yet. i have checked several consumer websites wherein this has been noted as a continuous problem with this make and model vehicle. every 12,000-15,000 miles or so the rear brake pads wear out prematurely. i am concerned due to the rapid pace that the brake pads wear out at and am fearful that my vehicle (and others like it) will loose stability and result in an accident if this problem is not resolved. the dealerships make excuses for this problem and when contacting honda america they act as if they have never heard of the problem before. carcomplaints.com has 350 complaints and counting as of 7/9/09 so i find it difficult to believe that honda america has never been notified of this problem. i saved my old parts and the receipt/invoice from the repair place i went to and am expecting a recall to be issued (eventually) so that i as well as hundreds if not thousands of others can be reimbursed for this unnecessary expense. does someone have to die to get a recall ?! *tr

The honda 2008 accord had a problem which is brake pads prematurely worn. there are 388 brake problem reports out of 527 total complaints about honda 2008 accord at july 2009. it is related the safety issue and honda should recall this manufacturer defect of brake. *tr

Rear brakes on a 2008 honda accord v6 prematurely wore out at 26,000 miles. *tr

Tl*the contact owns 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that she had to replace the brakes and the rotors twice in less than a year. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who told her that the the brakes and the rotors had to replaced again. manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired a third time. the failure and current mileage was 59,000.

During regular driving, 2008 honda accord has displayed excessive rear brake wear. over 38,000 miles, rear brakes have been replaced twice. this included new rotors as well as pads. *tr

Premature wearing of rear brakes on 2008 honda accord. i already had to replace them once at 12,000 miles and just took it in again for service and they are telling me that i will have to replace them again soon. *tr

I bought a 2008 honda accord on november 30, 2007. my brakes started squealing shortly after. squeaky brakes do not indicate a defect so i waited until my first oil change at 8k miles but the squeaking did not go away. i complained to the service rep who said they visually inspected the brakes and everything looked fine. they suggested it would go away. at 12k miles and my second oil change, i had the same complaint. again they inspected the brakes and said they looked fine, and that it could be a piece of rock stuck in there somewhere, and it would cost if they were to do a thorough inspection. this trend continued to my fourth oil change where the tech suggested that my brakes would be due for replacement during my next oil change. i couldn't wait until the next oil change because my brakes were squealing to the point of embarrassment. within the same month, i had the rear brakes replaced. the tech agreed that it was time and it wouldn't have made it to the next oil change. i paid just under $200 for this service. it hasn't been a month and my front brakes are also squeaking to the point of embarrassment. i think this is absurd for a new car. i have spoken with the service manager, a sales manager, and one other person who is above both of them. they are all telling me the same thing. i insisted that it wasn't normal for *new* car brakes to start squeaking and to *keep* squeaking. i also mentioned that i do mostly highway driving so the brakes should not wear out that fast. the sales manager had the audacity to tell me that the brakes on this model are known for squeaking and it is normal for them to continue squeaking. they then offered to inspect them for $30 or service them for $240, which i declined. i have read the warranty documentation and have decided to follow the advised procedure, hopefully to a fair resolution. my only regret is not starting this process sooner. *tr

The rear inside brake pads on my 2008 honda accord, which has 23k miles, are severely worn and had to be immediately replaced. the rear outside brake pads, however, show normal wear for the car's mileage. an internet search of this problem indicated thousands of similar complaints affecting 2008 to present honda accords and represents a safety hazard that could lead to serious injury or death. *cn

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle has reduced braking capability. he took the vehicle to a dealer and they stated that the rear brake pads had premature wear. they further stated that there were other reports of identical failures. the contact is in the process of having the vehicle repaired. the failure and current mileages were 26,000.

Premature rear brake replacement, 2008 honda accord v6, at 20,000 mile the rear brakes needed replacement. *tr

2008 honda accord ex. rear brakes worn at 21,000 miles. logic prevents me from believing this is reasonable or customary. all miles are open road highway miles. owner does not know brakes are worn until there is a metal grinding sound..by that time brake pads need to be cut lessening life of rotors. dealership and company refuses to acknowledge unusual/premature wear and remedy issue. *tr

Extensive and very fast rear brake wear on honda accord 2008. *tr

My rear brakes on my 2008 honda accord are shot after 25,000 miles. i had to get the brake pads replaced and rotors fixed at a cost of $276. this seems very premature for a new car. i have never experienced this in any new car that i have owned. this needs to be fixed by honda but they just say it is "not covered by warranty". please help!!! *tr

2008 honda accord - went in for regular maintenance at 16,000 miles. rear brake pads at 2mm and was told they needed to be replaced. this is a front wheel drive car, the brakes were not making any noise or indication they were worn out. being charged by honda dealership $300 to replace. this seems to be a defect on the braking system by honda, why would rear brakes wear out so fast compared to front? *tr

I have a 2008 honda accord ex sedan with automatic transmission. the rear disc brake pads wore out before 28,000 miles & had to be replaced. the honda dealer stated that this is a common problem with many accords & at this time honda has no information when or if a redesign of the rear pads is being considered. this is not a warranty covered issue & owners pay full cost to replace the pads. the servicing honda dealer stated that more frequent brake inspections should be done than what may be considered normal. *tr

2008 honda accord lx-p purchased in august, 2008 now requires complete brake pad replacement after only 20,026 miles on the rear brakes. strange that rear brakes would require replacement on a front-wheel drive car after so few miles. after researching online, thousands of people are seeing the same exact issue. some only after 6,000 miles. *tr

2008 accord v6 3.5 rear brakes are dangerously thin and require replacement at 17000 highway miles. *tr

Premature brake wear on 2008 honda accord. rear brakes were worn to the indicators after only 15,000 mostly highway miles. there are hundreds of similar complaints for the 2008 and 2009 honda accords. *tr

2008 honda accord has chronic rear brake issues. i have approximately 31,000 miles on a 2008 accord and my rear brakes have needed replacement twice. i have not had to replace the front brakes. honda says that this is normal wear and tear, but i disagree. there are numerous complaints online about the same issue. i think that honda should issue a recall for this part of the car. it is a safety issue. most people are not looking to replace brake pads at 15,000 miles and this can easily lead to major safety issues. *tr

I purchased a 2008 honda accord in february 2008 and so far i have gone through 2 sets of rear brake pads in 28,000 miles. all the while my brakes continue to make noise (squeak and grind). i have had the car at the dealership 4 times over the last year trying to remedy this problem with no cure. the dealer insists that this kind of brake wear is "normal" for this car and the rear brakes need to be replaced every 15,000 miles. i find this incredible. i'm afraid that my brakes may fail without warning. this is clearly a design flaw by honda. rear brakes on cars should last for quite a while and not be replaced sooner than the front brake pads on a front wheel drive vehicle. *tr

Rear brake pads on 2000-2009 honda accord wear out within 1 year or so -- 18 months in our case. usually rear brake pads last for many years. this is a serious potential safety hazard. honda has received many complaints about this, but is still refusing to admit any problem through a tsb or recall. i don't think anyone is expecting to have their brakes be completely gone that fast. my wife had a near miss accident when traveling with our children because the pads were so worn out. please use link to see more complaints. i am not alone in this. http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml. *tr

Premature brake wear on 2008 honda accord. had them replaced by own mechanic and found out months later honda was aware of the problem. contacted them in 1 day they agreed to reimburse us in full. they said honda was working to see how to correct the problem but would not to a recall because they do not consider it a safety issue. they said for now honda will continue to replace up to 3 years unlimited miles. *tr

I am the owner of a 2008 honda accord 4-door lx-p sedan (automatic transmission), which was purchased in january of 2008. beginning in december of 2008, i detected an intermittent noise which can best be described as the sound of air moving through a straw when applying the brakes, which was sustained through subsequent acceleration until repeated application and release of the brakes caused the noise to cease. it was audible inside and outside of the car, and could not be isolated to one particular area of the car (rear or front), though it appeared to originate in the wheels area. this was reported to the dealer during visits for oil changes and tire rotations, as well as a separate visit specifically to assess this ongoing occurrence. i was repeatedly assured that they had not heard the noise, but had checked the brakes and tires and all was fine, there were no suspected or visible concerns. one day prior to my most recent service appointment of june 11, 2009, the noise changed (though was still very intermittent) and began to sound and feel like a grinding, metal-to-metal noise, as well as a vibration felt in the brake pedal. when inspected during the service appointment, i was told that they had discovered that the rear brake pads were completely worn and damage had been done to the rotors as a result. the rear brake pads on the newer honda accords (automatic transmissions) wear extremely quickly, at approximately 18-20,000 miles. they also wear unevenly, such that the inner pads wear much more quickly than the outer. the rear pads also wear much more quickly than the front. this problem is potentially dangerous and very costly. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated the rear brakes were wearing out prematurely. the dealer replaced the rear brakes accordingly. the manufacturer was contacted and advised there were no recalls for the failure. the manufacturer would not assist. the failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 44,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving 40 mph, the contact heard a grinding noise as if the brake pads were striking the rotors. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and they stated that they were receiving numerous complaints about the noise for her type of vehicle. they suggested that the braking mechanism could be the cause of the failure or either the rear brakes were faulty. the vehicle only has 17,000 miles and the brakes were supposed to last for 12,000 miles. in addition, the calipers were locking and not releasing. the dealer stated that they would not repair the brakes because the vehicle was not under warranty. furthermore, the rear brakes were previously repaired on the vehicle. the additional repair was made at the contact's expense. the failure mileage was 17,701 and current mileage was 17,834.

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for an oil change and was informed that the rear brakes needed to be replaced. the contact inspected the old rear brake discs and learned that the abs in the newer hondas will place more wear on the rear brakes because they have thinner pads. he would not have known about this had he not gone to the dealer. therefore, he believes that there are numerous honda owners that are unaware that the rear brakes are wearing between 20,000-25,000 miles, when it is supposed to be 40,000 miles. the contact believes that a recall should be issued and thicker brake pads should be installed. the current and failure mileages were 22,800.

Premature brake wear on honda accord 2008 models. these new cars require expensive brake repairs (new rotors and brakes) as frequently as every 15k miles. please see all the complaints at: http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml this is dangerous because there are so many other people who may not know that their rear brakes are failing so soon after purchasing a new car. having owned prior cars, needing to replace brakes every year is unheard of. *tr

Audi brake warning at 30000 miles, brought vehicle following day to dealer service dept. service dept found it necessary to resurface to rotors and replaced pads. considering front brakes have 15000 miles left on them this should not have happened to the rear brakes. i consider this a manufacturer design flaw and should be recalled. warranty refused to pay for this procedure. what will happen in another 30000 miles and how many times can the rotors be resurfaced: *tr
