Premature wear of rear brake pads. the inner brake pad was completely worn out at 28,000 miles. the outer rear brake pad was not worn. this is a defect that honda designed wrong. the rear pads should wear out evenly. *tr
I have an '08 honda accord ex and due to the poor design and part quality honda uses for their rear-brakes i have to change the brake pads on the car with only 17,500 miles on it. at 15-20k mile life on brake pads is subpar quality and design of the system. this should be looked to protect consumers from speeding extra maintenance dollars on a poor decision/design by honda auto. *tr
We have a 2008 accord ex-l v-6 with 20,000 miles and premature rear brake failure. rear brakes were wore down to the sensors. the dealer said, yes the brakes wear out quickly, but they are not covered. i understand the part as a wear item, but it is also a safety related item. the average customer can, and should expect the brakes to at least last until the honda specified inspection period which is the "service b". it is very unreasonable to have to replace brakes at every other oil change. plus the dealer could not tell me if the replacement pads will last any longer that the originals. apparently honda is working on a countermeasure, but no date of the effective date. rear brakes should outlast the front brakes or at least last as long as them. the front brakes are with in the wear period of the mileage. *tr
I am a first time buyer of a honda automobile. i purchased my honda for the reliability and quality reputation that they were to possess. i first noticed a loud scrapping noise coming from the rear of my car at 37,000 miles. i asked fellow automotive manufacturing employees what they thought it could be. the response was always it can't be the pads because of the low mileage. i took the car to the dealership. the dealership determined i needed to replace the rear pads and that the wear was normal. i was not satisfied with that answer, so upon picking up my accord i asked for the old pads. the inside pad was completely worn while the pad for the same wheel for the outside was quite the opposite with plenty of pad left. the dealership tried to explain the inconsistent wear due to a emergency brake cable engagement. i did not see the brake light on the dash lit up at all. investigating this issue further because of my concern with faulty brakes, i have learned i am not alone. i will not tolerate replacing and paying for a problem that is clearly a manufacturing issue of poor quality and what may turn into a life loss if not understood. safety is number one at honda manufacturing? *tr
I have leased my 2008 honda accord coupe with vsa for 13 months with 15,900 miles currently. visited the dealership service department for the recommended 15,000 mile service. told the rear brakes need replacement, the service tech stated " this is a common problem on the accord, we can have the brake service completed for you in 45 minutes". i stated "if this is a common problem i would gladly have the brake service completed if honda paid for the parts". service tech said i have to check with the service manager. a few minutes went by and the tech returned, "the service manager said because the vehicle has vsa, that the brakes wear out very quickly and that honda would not offer to cover the cost of parts. but, because this is a leased vehicle do not put on after market brake pads at another service site". no where in the honda vehicle manual is it stated that there would be early brake wear and required replacement if your vehicle has vsa. i am in the process of contacting honda america by phone, by fax and by certified letter. as honda drivers we should have been made aware of this problem and should receive the work and parts gratis by honda. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a voluntary recall involving the rear brake pads. the technicians replaced the rear brake pads. after the repair the contact experienced a failure with the rear brakes. while driving at any speed and depressing the brakes, the vehicle would hesitate to stop and exhibit an abnormal grinding noise. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the rear brake pads were replaced a second time. the approximate failure mileage was 15,000.
I,like many others, have had issues with the rear brakes on my 2008 honda accord. i first had the brakes replaced at 23k and again at 41k. and, because i could not afford it last week, i must take the car back to get one of my rotors completely replaced (the others were able to be resurfaced). apparently sometimes between 23k and 41k my brakes wore bad enough to cause an indention on my rotor. this is strange to me because i took my car to have the brakes looked at as soon as i heard them making the indicator noise both time, yet somehow my rotor was able to be indented b/c there was metal rubbing against metal... i'm no mechanic, but that sounds like a safety issue to me! i would just like whatever the issue is that is causing these brakes to wear down so quickly to be fixed. it is a safety issue, a quality issue as well as a financial concern (at least for me). *tr
I own a 2008 honda accord with 24k miles on it. i took it to my dealer because i heard a metal grinding noise from the rear passenger wheel. the dealer notified me that the rear brakes on my vehicle had less than 2mm of brake pad remaining which i validated with a visual inspection. my front brakes had just over 8mm of brake pads remaining (normal wear). it is clear that this is a manufacturers default in either the brake pads or design. i am concerned that this could become a safety issue since it is not a reasonable deduction by most owners of a 2008 honda accord that brake pads would wear out within `20k miles and ignore the symptoms. the dealer charged me $150 to replace the brake pads. *tr
While driving my vehicle it would make a loud screeching sound, the faster you drive the louder it would sound. it is very embarrassing on the highway, let alone when you drive very slow around your neighborhood to look for parking, the sound is alot lower but yet embarrassing and annoying. i never thought my brakes would need to be replaced with only a year and a half with the vehicle and i never thought my rear brakes would wear out at 16,400 miles. it cost me money that i did not have at the time. *tr
My rear brakes had to replaced at 21,400 miles because of excessive wear on the inside brake pad - i had read other reports about this and my brakes had been squeaking since 4000 miles! *tr
The rear brake pads fail prematurely, causing a safety issue and loss of braking power. i've almost had several accidents as a result of not being able to brake properly. i've had the rear brakes replaced several times, each time as a result of lost braking power and substantial increase in stopping distance, including at intersections where my vehicle was almost in the way of opposing traffic. the odometer at the last repair was 56,075 miles, compared to 37596 miles on the previous repair, a difference of only 18,479 miles! then, before that, my mileage for my first brake repair was 18,258 miles, a difference of 19,117 miles! so far, the average difference between rear brake pad changes has been 18,618 miles. i noticed it because suddenly i was unable to stop and almost hit another car in front of me. currently i fear for my safety as i am nearing the 18,000 mile mark between brake pad changes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that during routine inspection, a technician concluded that the rear brake system needed to be replaced. he then added that brake failure is common with his model type and year. the vehicle was repaired at an expense of $ $251.18. the failure and the current mileages were 25,600. updated 10/21/09 *bf updated 10/22/09.*jb
Heard noise on left rear of car. scheduled a service with dealer. dealer found rear brake pad had worn away. dealer resurfaced rotors and installed new pads. car is a 2008 honda accord with 18,879 miles. dealer stated this is a known problem with this car. called honda and filed a complaint, they also said the brake system on this car was changed and the rear pads do wear out sooner than expected. believe honda should step-up and cover this problem. honda complaint # n012009-09-2401386. *tr
I have a 2008 honda accord lx with only 17,800 mi. i heard my brakes squeal and brought it in to the honda dealership for inspection. i was informed my rear brake pads were worn and needed to be replaced. that is absurd since 90% of my driving is on the highway. this needs to be looked into because honda should not be producing a car that needs brake replacement every 18k. *tr
I took my 2008 honda accord into the dealer for routine maintenance at 22k miles. i later received a call that the front brakes were fine at about 8mm, but the rear brakes are under 3mm and that they fall outside the maryland requirement and thus need to be replaced. for most of the past year the brakes have squeaked. somewhere between 10k and 14k miles they resurfaced the brake rotors at no cost to remove the squeak. the rear brake pads have to be replaced. i have never had to replace brake pads anywhere near that low mileage for any of the previous cars i have owned. honda should recall this brake system. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that the rear brakes were wearing quickly and were being replaced for a second time at a low mileage. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was aware of the problem. the manufacturer had not been notified. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
Tl*the contact owns 2008 honda accord. the rear brake pads have worn out prematurely. the dealer advised the contact that he would be liable for the repair cost since there were no recalls or warranties for the brakes. the contact will notify the manufacturer of the failure and the cost. the failure mileage was 27,900.
Rear brakes have worn severely and prematurely. once at 20,000 miles and the second at 40,000 miles. both times the brakes were close to total failure. brakes had to be totally replaced twice. driving was under normal conditions and there were no indications of wear or failure until the end. this is a very common occurrence with this model car ('08 honda accord). *tr
Brake pads on car need replacing after only $18,000 miles. *tr
While having my 2008 on the accord es in for its annual inspection the dealer informed me that my rear brake pads had worn to the point where they needed to be replaced. the mileage of a vehicle at this time was 22,000 miles. when i commented to the dealer that this seemed like exorbitant wear considering the vehicle was driven 80% highway during non-rush-hour they replied that this type of wear was normal for this make model and year vehicle. after some quick research on the internet i discovered that my issue is not unique. fortunately i have the knowledge and ability to deal with this issue. my concern stems from the many consumers who do not have the knowledge of the systems and thereby may be placing themselves at great risk. *tr
2008 honda accord has a design flaw in the brake system specifically rear brake pads wear out extremely prematurely and front brake rotors warp. *dt the dealer advised the consumer there was only 5% rear brake pads remaining. the consumer stated there was never any indications of grinding or squealing. the dealer stated it was normal wear and tear and was not included under warranty. on november 13, 2009 the vehicle was taken to the dealership because a shimmy was felt on top of the steering wheel when the consumer braked at higher speeds. the consumers wife noticed a square tire feel when braking shortly after the rear brakes were replaced, but never mentioned it. the dealer found the rotors were warped and machined them. *jb
I purchased a 2008 honda accord coupe from honda of superstition springs in phoenix, arizona in january 2008. i have been very happy with the vehicle up until now. i recently moved to rock springs, wyoming and started hearing a strange noise when i drove my vehicle, so i took it in to get looked at. i came to find, that my vehicle, with only 20,000 miles on it, needed a new rear brake job. rotors and pads. this cost me $496. the service advisor told me he has seen other vehicles of the same year and model with the same issue.honda would not cover this under warranty. i called my previous service advisor in phoenix, and he told me he has seen the same issue on newer accords. front brakes are supposed to go first, but there is obviously an issue if newer accord owners have to drop this amount of money into their new vehicle for a complete rear brake job at such low mileage. *tr
2008 honda accord had began to make a strange noise while driving. the noise was coming from the rear brakes. *dt the rear brake system was in need of replacement at 20,000 miles.
2008 honda accord ex: at 27,500 miles, the rear brake pads were worn completely down to the metal backing plate. the front pads showed normal wear, when inspected during a tire replacement. the car is used for commuting to work daily, 25 miles each way, over a mix of in town streets and freeway driving. this wear in the rear brakes is excessive and required replacement, but was not covered under warranty. a rear brake failure could cause an accident by causing an increase in stopping distance. *tr
Took my 2008 honda accord (15,039 miles) to be serviced for the second time since i purchased the car. i was told that the rear brakes were worn and needed to be replaced at a cost over $200 "for a one year old car, how are the front brakes!?" i was told that the front brakes seemed to be fine. i expressed to them that this was crazy and that there is definitely something wrong here. i asked if there were any complaints about this from others. did not quite get a truthful answer so i decided to research online and sure enough. i am not the only one experiencing this problem. at the service shop i was also told that after this repair/change of rear brakes, i will have to repair them again at another 20,000 miles. i am very disgusted and think that honda should step up and do something for all the loyal honda buyers. either fix the problem or refund the customer. *tr
2008 honda accord had a problem with the rear brakes. *nj the consumer was informed the rear brakes were completely worn down. *jb
Brand new honda accord 2008 needs brakes at 16,000 miles, my wife and my kids i feel they are not safe, if at 16,000 miles the brakes need to be changed, i don't know what other issues i may face later on. i think there is something wrong with the brake system, and as we know that brake system is safety number 1 in cars. *tr
The rear brakes on 2008 honda accord coupe wear out twice as fast as the front. that means the rear brakes apply more pressure to stop than the front. this, in my opinion is a safety issue. *tr
Premature rear brake wear. potential safety hazard, manufacturer ignoring problem. honda needs to recall these vehicles immediately before someone gets killed. *tr
Brake system wear premature at 14,000 miles. front rotors warped and rear brake pads depleted. *tr

My 2008 honda accord has experienced premature brake wear in the rear brakes. after only a year and 16,500 miles, the rear brakes are shot. the dealership told me this was "normal" and they needed to be replaced, which i did. after doing some research, i find that i'm not alone. i've found hundreds of complaints of rear brake problems and i'd like to add my voice to the chorus. i drive mostly on the highway and these brakes just should not have worn out this fast! it's not just a money issue. premature brake ware is a safety issue. *tr
My rear brakes wore out prematurely on my 2008 honda accord at around 18k miles. honda needs to issue a recall on this, especially since the dealership has acknowledged the problem consistently exists. *tr
2008 honda accord- rear brakes have been replaced four times, along with the rotors once. i have 70,000 miles (mainly highway mile) and they are having to be replaced almost every 20,000 miles. *tr
I have had my 2008 honda accord exl for a little bit over a year. about one month ago, i heard my car making some screeching noise. it was not persistent but it was enough to make me feel embarrassed to drive my car. about 2 weeks ago the screeching noise became such a problem b/c 95% of the time i'm driving both rear brakes seem to be making the noise. it sounds like someone is running a metal wire along a metal sheet and it seems like the brakes slip every once in awhile. i recently googled the issue and its to be a fairly common thing. i just called and made an appointment with the dealership to have them look at it. i also told them about the thousands of complaints i have read online and told them that i will not pay for any charges that occur. they acknowledged a brake problem for all 2008/2009 honda accord and said they should be resolving the issue 12/22/09 and that i should hold off until then and that it is not a safety issue. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. during a routine oil change, he was told that his rear brakes needed to be replaced. a service manager confirmed that the manufacturer was aware of the problem. no repairs were made and he heard a peculiar noise during brake application. the current mileage was approximately 22,000. updated 10/26/09 *bf the rear rotors were resurfaced and the rear brake pads were replaced. updated 10/28/09.*jb updated 10/30/09 *bf
Honda accord 2008 rear brakes worn prematurely. after 30,000 miles, i was told by honda mechanic that my front brakes look like new (9 mm. left), but both rear brakes needed to be replaced (1 mm. left). both rear brakes worn evenly. after searching few car forums, i found that i'm not alone having this problem. brakes were replaced at my expense. *tr
2008 honda accord brakes are worn down to 1.6mm after only 16676 miles. car is in perfect condition and is well cared for and driven safely. seems like a design problem with 2008 honda accord rear brakes. many complaints on the internet. rear brakes should last 4 times longer ?? *tr
I own a 2008 honda accord. my wife took the car into the dealership because it was making a noise in the rear. she was told the car needed rear brakes. the car only has 25,000 miles on it. when i talked to the dealer, i was told i was lucky to get 25,000 miles as he is replacing brakes at 15,000. i was told by a honda mechanic that the brake issue is due to the parking brake adjustment being inadvertently tightened by the car suspension. he said honda is aware of the problem and trying to figure out a fix. i had to pay to have the rear brakes replace, when honda knows there's a problem. *tr
Premature brake wear on a 2008 honda accord lx. 25773 miles on car. i took it into the dealer for squealing sound.. they said it was brake pads worn on rear brakes, and a rear rotor needing replacement. they said it was not covered under warranty, even though admitting other people have complained about premature brake pad wear. i feel this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. i paid $347 on repairs for something that should have been covered because of honda's prior knowledge of the problem before they even sold the car to me 8/28/08. *tr
Would like to register a complaint and potential safety hazard for braking system on the 2008 honda accords. 2 repairs for the same problem on brake pads and rotors. one repair required at 1.3 years old second at 2.7 years old. total failure in a quick stopping situation is possible. i for one do not want to find this out. please investigate the current class action lawsuit against honda corporation of america and force them to address and correct this problem. over 1100 complaints about this on car beef.com are we going to wait for something terrible to happen before this is addressed? dealer repaired 2 times at my expense. honda is aware of this issue but will not correct permanantly. excessive repairs bills charged to all owners of this vehicle. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that while applying pressure on the break, she experienced squealing and reduced breaking capability. break failure can cause an increase in the vehicles stopping distance which increases the risk of vehicle crash. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and a technician concluded that the calipers and rear break system needed to be repaired. as of current date no repairs were made. the failure and current mileages were 12,000.
Honda premature rear brake wear. 2008 honda accord 2-door 4 cylinder auto trans. has 16,696 miles and rear brakes wore out. inner pads were metal on metal according to repair shop (pep boys) they did not want to work on the vehicle as they felt the rear brake calipers were defective. the said the dealer should replace the calipers under warranty. took to dealer next morning on aug 19 2009. got a story about how it is normal for rear brakes to wear out at 16,000 miles. they would not cover a safety issue under warranty. told rear brakes do not last as long as front brakes. told inner pads on the rear axle wear out faster than the outer pads due to this reason or that reason. dealer explained that this is not covered under warranty and then charged me for replacing rear brakes. i expect the current set of brakes to only last another 16,000 miles. researching other owners online and personal friends this is a pervasive problem. also car magazine motor trend had the same problem. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/oneyear/112_0910_2008_honda_accord_test_verdict/index.html. *tr
Defective rear brakes on 2008 honda accord i purchased a new 2008 honda accord last may and have approximately 24,000 miles on it. after a little over one year of regular highway driving my rear brakes began to squeal and grind incessantly. my honda dealer admitted that the accords have been experiencing premature wear on the rear brakes but refused to service this as a covered warranty issue. i called american honda and they simply read what appeared to be a "canned" response that there were no recalls or service bulletins and that this was a "wear item" that the customer is responsible for. after conducting my own research online i have come across hundreds of similar complaints from other 2008 honda accord including many complaints filed with nhtsa. the proper operation of a vehicles brakes is critical to driver and occupant safety, and honda refuses to admit to or rectify what is clearly a systemic safety issue. i implore the nhtsa to investigate this issue and to recurrent accept responsibility to rectify this issue for the thousands of honda accord owners who may be driving unsafe vehicles. *tr
I purchased an 08 honda accord in jan08. in aug 09 (7 months later) i was told by honda during an oil change that the rear brakes needed replaced. the car only had 19k miles on it. honda refused to cover the cost even though the car was 7 months old and stated that it was not covered under warranty. i paid $205 to have the rear brakes replaced. in may 09 (9 months later), i took my vehicle to honda for an oil change and was informed that the rear brakes needed replaced. at this time, the vehicle had 39k total miles, which was only 20k miles since the last time i had brakes put on the vehicle the first time. i once again paid $215 to honda for the repair. i questioned honda about this issue and was informed that it related to driver habits and the fact that i lived in a congested area. i informed them that this was the only vehicle that i have replaced rear brakes on every 20k miles. i advised that the 2006 honda accord that i traded in with 94k miles had brakes replaced once, which was at the 80k mark. i also advised them that this was a commuter car and that i have had the same commute for 4 years, so the problem was not related to me or the congestion. immediately after driving the car away from the dealership after my second brake repair, i noticed that the steering wheel vibrated when applying the brakes and the car did not stop as quickly as it should. i took the vehicle back in to have it inspected by honda and was told that the brakes looked fine. however, the problem has continued. i am now at 59,000 miles and noticing that the car is making squealing noises when applying the brakes. therefore, this will be the 3rd time i am replacing brakes on a new car. honda will not own up to this safety hazard. i investigated trading it in, but was told by honda that the 09 & 10 models have them same part number. this problem will only continue to grow. unfortunately, someone will end up getting hurt before honda takes action. *tr
Rear brake pads wearing out prematurely on 2008 honda accord. wore out twice so far .every 25000 miles they need to be replaced. concerned that brakes are undersized for car. recall needs to be issued. *tr
Brakes in need of replacement after 19,000 miles. service manager says he gets 2 or 3 calls/day on this issue and we are lucky the brakes lasted to 19k. most only last 15-17k. service manager (and countless others found online) have made honda aware, but no recall, no notification to consumers, no coverage under basic or extended warranties. if this was peeling paint, no problem. these are brakes that last (according to service manager) a little over a year before replacement with normal driving! 50% wear in 6 months! have never owned any other vehicle with this issue. *tr
I bought a new 2008 honda accord and drive it everyday to work. the trip is about 20 miles of highway and 5 miles of light city driving. after 23k miles we took our car so someone because the rear wheels were screeching. we come to find out that the brake pads were completely worn off. we talked to the vic bailey honda dealership ing spartanburg, sc and they said it was a known problem and that they'd cover 60% of the cost. i am happy they are paying for part of the cost, but i don't want to have to pay every 25k miles to get brakes replaced when they should last a lot longer. this should be a recall or something. *tr
I purchased a 2008 honda accord in february 2008. i started experiencing break noises around 10000 miles, i contacted honda regarding the concerns. honda assured me that this was because the breaks get wet during rain and washing. wrong, after i refused to accept this as an answer, at 12,000 mi i demanded a recheck by honda. i was then informed that a rock was enlodged in the wheel. liar, at 13,000mi, after another trip to honda because i was now hearing grinding noises when backing out of the driveway, honda replaced the back break pads and stated that they were completely gone. approximately 26,000 miles the same exact noises started again, i drove another 2,000miles and decided to have them checked again at honda. i was insulted by honda insinuating that i was a bad driver. i responded that i have been driving since the age of 13 and that was an insult because i am now at the age of 44 yrs old. i then stated that i have alot of highway miles on my vehicle because my daughter is out of town in college and i visit her often, this is why i purchased a honda because i always heard that they were reliable and dependable and good on gas, not. i have owned oldsmobile, gmc, chevy, cadillac, mazda, mitsubishi's and have never experienced this type of bull. then honda svc mgr and general mgr insisted that i pay for a break job because honda was generous to replace them the first time at 13,000 miles and the car was under warranty. duh, i purchased an extended warranty and i was told that this would cover anything from bumper to bumper. honda then came back 5 hrs later with a phone call stating that they would try to contact honda to see if they would cover half the expense. this is not good enough for me because the way it looks, i will be replacing brakes every other oil change. this is a disgrace and honda needs to be pulled on the red carpet to stand behind this mess up and honor their customers. maybe if the recession affect them then they will change. *tr
My 2008 honda accord was purchased in march 2008. i wanted a honda due to the reports of their reliability and safety. i took my car for an oil change in december of 2008 and was told that my rear brakes were so far gone that i was digging into my rotors. there was no warning at all. no squealing noises, no form of warning at all. i complained alot. honda ended up splitting it with me 50/50. at that time i had 25,476 miles on the car. i'm sure the brakes were shot well before that point. i took my car into the dealership this morning for another oil change. again, i was told that i need new rear brakes now. no warning once more. and now i only have 21,000 more miles on the car. how can it be acceptable to manufacture brakes that only last for 20,000 miles? my whole view of honda is changing rapidly. i called the dealership who referred me to honda directly. i called honda and got no where. i was told that because brakes are a "wear and tear" item that there is nothing honda "can" do. i asked to speak to a manager. the best i got was a rep that took my info and said someone would be calling me in 1-2 business days. again... not acceptable. not only are their products going downhill, so is their customer service. i am thankful that my brakes didn't simply fail and cause a very bad situation. but who's to say that my brakes won't fail this time around unless honda does something to resolve this issue. *tr
