We have classified the 113 complaints from 2004 Honda Accord about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
While at a stop light, my car just shut off for no apparent reason. prior to that i would have glitches (on/off) while listening to the radio but this happened while i was driving. i didn't notice the problem before but it just kept shutting off even though the gas tank was full and the battery in it is new. i took it into a mechanic for a diagnostic but nothing came up in their sensor. the mechanic looked at all of the connections and couldn't sense that there was an issue. i know that i didn't buy a new car but it had a full inspection. i'm worried that although it passed it's safety inspection if it is truly safe to drive since it keeps shutting off while driving and especially coming to stops. *tr
My wife had parked in a parking space with a very slight downward slope. there was another space ahead of her. she had been driving in a heavy rain. the car was operating normally. when she returned about 15 minutes later, the brake pedal felt hard. she started the engine and shifted into reverse. the car started coasting forward. the brakes remained hard and didn't stop the car. she stopped it by shifting to park, then turned off the engine. she repeated the attempt to back out of the space - same result. no error messages appeared. she called, and i drove to the scene. the rain had stopped. i felt the hardness of the brake pedal, although it felt more like a stiff spring than a non-power brake pedal to me. i pumped the springy pedal a few times; it didn't change. i started the engine, keeping my foot lightly on the brake. when the engine started, the stiffness immediately disappeared, the pedal felt normal, the transmission worked, and the car drove normally. i didn't get to experience the transmission problem. later, i could find no problem with the brakes. the linkage has only a very slight amount of play, as it should. i depleted the vacuum supply by pumping the brakes with the engine off. the pedal felt very hard, unlike the springy feel in the parking lot. i have a phd in electrical engineering and a lot of car repair experience. this background leads me to conclude that it is extremely unlikely for the unrelated braking and transmission systems to fail simultaneously, and then recover simultaneously. there has to be another common cause, which leads me to suspect the computer system or possibly a sensor, particularly because this happened after driving in a heavy rain. the postulated failure mode is a compromised computer system that could partially activate the abs system and also fail to operate the reverse solenoid valve in the transmission.
The lights on the radio and ac pannel do not work, the lcd does not display the radio stations or the ac temperatures. *tr
The transmission is fail according to honda dealer inspection, honda dealer does not take any responsability of the transmission problem neither the honda manufacturer. air condition does not cool on even it was repaired once but it still does not work. *tr
The display has gone out. this is a known fact for honda. they extended the warranty. many experience after the warranty. circuit board is faulty and they know it, why not replace it for owners who spent money on their product. this takes away from some visibility inside vehicle. i'm told it may be a heat issue... *tr
The lights on the radio and ac pannel do not work, the lcd does not display the radio stations or the ac temperatures. now i find that the cost is over $800.00. also i remember that when i brought the car in for service, in the past, the technician asked me if i had any problems with the dash light, seems he already knew about this problem over a year ago.
Ignition problem- can not turn key in ignition switch, can not turn on car. left me stranded several times. when searching complaints there has been previous complaints for same problem. why no recall for problem. i am told it would be very expensive to fix. air bag light keeps coming on- i have never received any recall notice. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated the instrument panel lighting would not illuminate. all of the gauges were operable but the lighting would not illuminate when driving the vehicle at night. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who offered no assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 250,000.
The consult circuit board that lights up where to find the defroster, heater, stereo, ac is totally dark. this is a safety issue and i must turn on a light to see the controls and i feel this is a great safety issue and should be a recall for all honda's since i have read on line how many people had this problem. i was never notified by honda that they would fix it free (possible) if you get your car there before 7yrs or 100,000 miles but they keep that very quiet. i was so busy paying to keep my home and honda never sent me any word on this and problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while parked, the contact noticed that the lights on the heating and air conditioning panel would not illuminate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician stated that the panel would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 119,000. updated 4/2/12 *cn
The air bag warning indicator is illuminated spontaneously regardless if the vehicle was in motion or at start-up and whether the front passenger seat was occupied or unoccupied. the recall 07v001000 (air bags: frontal: sensor/control module) does not include my vin. *tr
On december 30, 2011 the back-light on my radio stereo as well as the a/c panel went out. this poses a safety issue because 1. during storms or bad weather, i cannot see what station to turn the radio for tornado warnings or weather updates. 2. to adjust a/c or heater settings, i must take my focus off the road to turn on the overhead light and adjust settings. 3. in weather conditions such as high fog or where you need to use a defrost, i must must take my focus off the road to turn on the overhead light and adjust settings. *tt
For no fault on my part, radio lcd clock light stop working. this should be a recall, it is happening to all 2003 to 2007 cars. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while parked, the contact noticed that the center console lighting was no longer illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. the technician stated that the circuit panel in the radio system failed and the circuit board would have to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 90,381. ..updated 04/19/12 *bf the consumer stated the center console displayed a variety of data, not just the radio. with the display dark, it was difficult to activate the defroster controls at night. updated 06/04/12
Smells burning when use heated seats, something is burning. passenger seat, we are afraid of fire,, we stopped using it. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated the lights on the instrument panel failed to function. the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 102,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall sporadically and without warning. the contact stated that the instrument panel would illuminate as the failure occurred. the contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 114,000.
All lights of display box (for radio, a/c, audio, car info, temperature, clock, etc), display panel, and backlights of all switches on that box, such as heater on/off, a/c, front and rear defroster, temperature, and all controls about electronics, are gone, i.e. not displayed. functions are working but backlight isn't working. it is a serious problem for safety. for example, in the night when you drive highway, you can't find the defroster switch to turn on to remove fog of rear window. you can't adjust the channel at the night when you need to hear emergency radio channel. no info about car at all. honda admitted that it had a problem and so they extended the warrant period, but this problem appeared irregularly. for me, just after passing the warrant period they said (100k). it should be recalled. i found a lot of complaints and same issues in the internet. please investigate and ask honda to fix this problem whatever their warrant period. thank you for your effort! *tr
My radio and a/c display went out. i have to turn on my interior lights at night to adjust the temperature in my car. it is extremely dangerous if my windows get foggy and i cannot fix it without pulling off of the road. this car needs to be recalled. i should not have to pay $1000 for a problem that all of these models are having. *tt
The interior lighting on the radio and other components went out. it is dangerous to be driving and trying to figure out where fan and other buttons are in the dark. i should not need to use a flashlight to figure out how to clear fog from the windows. if i have a related accident my insurance company would consider it my fault even though it is a design or manufacturing defect. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated the instrumental panel circuit board failed. the instrumental panel and interior lights would not come on. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 112,000.
I have no lights in the top of the car; a/c lights nor a/c work and the door lights. i feel very unsafe not being able to see when i get in or out of my vehicle. the seat belt tightens up whether brakes are applied or not. not having any dash lights are essential to the safety of any vehicle. want assist!!!!!!!!! *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the key would not turn in the ignition. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the ignition cylinder needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
I purchased a 2004 honda accord in october of 2008, the car was running and functioning well until the year 2010 where i started to have problems with the radio not working, the transmission failed and now in 2011 had to replace the sop ecm (per honda dealer the memory card of the car), i have spent more than $6,000 on this car because i had so many major a minor problems with it. and even though i have followed the schedule maintenance visits to the dealer this car still reflecting problems. i have gotten everything fixed till this moment and im afraid the car will still give me problems in the future. *tr
Major electrical problems began about 2 years ago. radio display won't light, but radio/cd still plays; air conditioner cools intermittently, though compressor is working and freon is adequate; tail lights sometimes work, sometimes don't; ignition switch makes a noise as though the engine was already started when i turned the key, even though it wasn't - eventually the ignition switch had to be replaced (problem still occurs from time to time); brake calipers have always pulsed no matter how slow i come to a stop; and airbag light comes on for no apparent reason as there is not hindrance to the sensor switch mechanism below the seats. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the radio will power on and off on its own and while the radio was turned off it began trying to eject compact disc although nothing was in the cd player. the dealer was contacted and stated they were not aware of the problem. the vehicle failure was not diagnosed nor repaired. the contact does not feel safe driving the vehicle . the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord ex. the contact stated that the lighting on the radio and temperture controls would illuminate. the vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer nor repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
My vehicle allows me to remove the key with it not in park. i know that this was a recall on 2003 honda accords but not 2004. i don't understand why this can happen. it will cost me upwards of $700 to fix a defect. it has been doing this behavior since i bought the vehicle back in 2011. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the interior lights failed and he was unable to see the heat, defrost, radio and hazard lights while driving at night. the dealer advised the contact to have the control board replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, offered no assistance. no repairs were performed. the current mileage was 157,745 and the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle shook. when the contact took her foot off the accelerator pedal, the shaking stopped. the failure occurred over fifty times. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer several times where the spark plugs and egr valve were replaced and the software was updated. the failure continued and could not be duplicated. the failure mileage was approximately 86,000 and the current mileage was approximately 88,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the radio blinked off and turned back on. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the current mileage was 47,657. the failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
When turn on the a/c, left side blows very hot air, and passenger side blows cool air. i turned the a/c to full (all the way to blue) but still getting extremely hot air from left side while my wife (in passenger) started complaining that she is shivering. *tr
While driving on a rainy day the battery signal flashes for a couple of seconds and the steering gets locked for approx 3 sec and after 3 sec it gets back to normal. it usually happens while turning and on a rainy day. this could result in a situation of life and death. initially we thought it is just one off situation but these days the problem is increasing. we have got it checked at 2 places including pepboys and they could not figure out the problem. *tr
I was driving on the freeway with rain, and the whole front panel (where the stereo, a/c, emergency light, went off. as i was tryng to find the emergency light( cause i was going slow in the rain and fix the temp. to clear de window i almost crash with another car. this shoul be taken more serious. i called and honda said i was out of warranty. ive been going to the dealer and they want me to pay almost a $1000, i called honda customer service and they insist i ve benn out of warranty.this afect the concentration and visibility on the car .i've been reading and its a common problem on this model. *tr
Audio unit display went blank / extremely dim. this unit controls radio and, most importantly, the heating and cooling settings for the car. covered under extend warranty (7 years /100k miles), but car has 116k miles, yet 6 years old. since electronics failures should be based on usage hours of operation), believe this failure should be covered under the warranty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the interior lights on the instrument panel were inoperative, making it difficult to see how far the vehicle was traveling and how much fuel was in the fuel tank. the dealer and manufacturer were notified, but denied any assistance with repairs of the failure. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.
Light display went out that controls radio and hvac components 2 years ago. dark at night when driving and when the windows get fogged up you can not see the switch to turn on defrost because the printed circuit board has stopped working, so it requires you to turn on interior light to find the defrost button, this is very dangerous while driving at night. after researching last night i found honda extended the warranty on this until 2011 or 100,000. so i called honda and i was told i'm past the warranty it's whichever comes first (i never received a letter from honda or it would have went in to get fixed) this in my opinion should be covered by the dealer as it could cause a fatality with someone fumbling with the interior lights just to get the defrost buttons on. *tr
2004 honda exl v-6; headlights dim as a result of the eld issue which is honda is fully aware of. the car works fine in every other aspect. honda's explanation that this is normal and acceptable does not do anything to ease my concerns as the headlights flicker during nighttime driving. i am very disappointed that honda is not taking the necessary steps to resolve this issue, as it is a very noticeable issue. given the number of online postings and complaints filed directly to honda over this issue, the nhtsa needs to apply some pressure to honda to get them to resolve this dangerous situation on their accord models. *tr
Turning signal for front and back of vehicle stopped working. bulb and fuse are intact. honda accord ex 2004. *tr
I leased a 2004 honda accord ex v6 in may of 2004, from rick case in miramar fl. on august 31, 2005, i had to have my o ring discharge line replaced, due to leaking power steering fluid and noise. then, on april 3, 2006 i had to have my entire radio/cd player changed out due to led not working and both back window motors replaced due to loud noise and rolling down slowly. in july 2006, i relocated to atlanta, ga and purchased this vehicle via retail (transferred the title) in august 2007. then, november 9, 2007, i had to have the power steering pump replaced due to leaking fluids and a loud noise. today is august 6, 2009 and i am again having the same power steering issues!! other problems that i am currently having with my car: had to get my battery changed august 9, 2007; window motor problems with both my front seat windows; internal lights not working on transmission gear-shift, over-head light. i am so unhappy with this honda purchase as i thought that they were known for their longevity, especially since i have been the only owner and got the car brand new. the main thing is i need answers or directions as to what my next step. please advise, thank you. i am still making payments on this car!! updated 08/07/09.*jb
2004 honda accord, 2 door, 6 sp manual transmission. while driving, occasionally when turning on turn signal, turning on the high beams or touching the brakes causes an interruption to the electrical system of the car and it just shuts off. if moving with the clutch out, the car starts back up and continues. this happens at least once every time i drive somewhere and gets more frequent the longer you drive--like on a long trip. is exciting when putting turn signal on while passing while at speed on the highway. *tr
The front instrument panel (the panel that contains the buttons to turn on/off the defrost, heater, air conditioner, radio) failed to illuminate in april of 2009. after getting in my car, putting my key in the ignition, and turning the headlights on i noticed that the panel did not illuminate. typically, the panel illuminates after turning on the headlights. this day, after turning on the headlights the panel did not illuminate and has never there after illuminated since that date. at first i thought it to be an issue with a fuse (since it is an electrical issue) so i sought the owners manual to see which fuse controlled the panel. after having difficulty understanding the fuse layout i searched online for help and that is when i discovered that many other honda owners have had this problem and that it in fact is not a problem caused by a simple fuse. this is a significant safety issue at night due to the fact that it is very difficult to find the defrost button on the panel when it is not illuminated and on rainy nights or other nights when the defrost is needed be very obstructive to the clear visibility of the driver of they can not access the defrost when needed. because of this safety issue it is highly recommended that a recall is activated to replace and fix the electrical malfunctions of the panel that i have detailed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact started the vehicle and noticed that the headlights were activated and the instrument panel lights failed to illuminate. the contact planned to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000. updated 03/23/12 *bf updated 04/09/12
I own a 2004 honda accord ex. the climate control, cd, radio, defroster, etc are displayed on an back-lit led display console. over a year ago the backlight went out, rendering the display useless. reading various car blogs, this has been a systemic problem with the accords. so much so that honda has recalled some vin numbers (but not mine) in the daylight hours, this is a mere inconvenience, at night it has presented several dangerous situations while driving in trying blindly to adjust climate settings -especially the defroster. i reported this to honda, but they said that my vin number did not qualify. the dealer said that they will replace this light for $645. please consider investigating. *tr
Noticed upon starting car: lights on my dashboard have darkened completely (and permanently, not intermittently). this includes the defroster indicator, dashboard buttons, climate control, radio, and clock. this is a very common problem for 03-07 accords, hundreds of users have complained about it for years. see the following thread: http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/advice/t-8584.html please submit this to honda for recall action. *tr
The headlights on my 2004 honda accord go dimmer and brighter about every minute while driving or parked. this headlight problem only occurs when the a/c or defrost is on. i believe the extra load on the electrical system with these components turned on is causing the headlights to dim about every 60 seconds. it could be related to a fan or other engine component turning on and off, not sure. the dealer replaced my battery and checked the alternator but the problem still occurs. the dealer says it is normal for honda accords to do this, but i think there should be a recall. this is very distracting to myself and the drivers in front of me. it looks like i am flashing my lights. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the low beam, high beam and fog lights became dim. the failure was recurring and the instrument panel and radio lighting would also sporadically fail. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop where it was indicated that the eld device in the fuse box needed to be replaced. the vehicle was also taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the fuse box needed to be replaced. the vehicle was to be inspected and repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40000.
2004 honda accord v6ex. audio-hvac display is dark. honda are aware of all model 2003 & 2004 but refused to recall due to the cost. they even put a service bulletin 04-027 out in all their dealership. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled due to the anti-theft system. as a result, the contact was unable to unlock the doors or start the vehicle. in order to enter the vehicle, the contact had to climb through the window. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle needed new ignition keys and needed to have its computer reprogrammed. the contact also stated that there were numerous complaints regarding the anti-theft system on the internet. the failure mileage was 160,000.
Nhtsa# 10016310... 2004 honda accord 2.4l coupe. a water leak in the middle-front dash board. the leak had run into the ecu of my car and caused my car to lock the transmission. i was lucky to not be traveling at a high rate of speed and in a populated area. anything could have happened with the ecu shorting in water. my car is currently in the honda shop being trouble shot for the extent of electrical damage. car will not start. *tr
