We have classified the 22 complaints from 2003 Honda Accord about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
I was going back home from work at 5:50 am in the morning in my honda accord. i lost control over my car and hit side walk and a mail box on the right side of the road my car toppled on the left side. the driver side window was under my feet as the car toppled and the passenger side door window was on the top of my head as i was standing in the a toppled car. to come out of the car i removed the head rest from the drivers seat and started hitting the window glass to break it with metal part of the head rest. i hit it as hard possible, i brought the head rest down to my knees to gather force, distance and speed so that the window glass can be broken and i can come out. i tried for few minutes but the window glass did not break. i want bring it to the attention of you all that if a window glass cannot be broken with metal in case of emergency in the car. the trapped people will burn to death. if you have further questions/query to clarify please feel free to call me or write to me at the following address: [xxx] thank you, [xxx] ps: take the above matter seriously to save the lives of trapped people in the car information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Takata recall i was driving down the road when i lost control of my car. this resulted in my air bag being deployed as i came into collision with a guard rail on a city street. luckily, only the passenger side airbag deployed. this resulted in my windshield being cracked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. upon exiting the vehicle, before the passenger exited the front passenger side, smoke appeared within the inner part of the front passenger side door and a fire erupted. the driver and the front passenger were able to extinguish the flames. a fire report was not filed. the dealer was notified. the passenger was burned and had to exit the vehicle through the front passenger side window, which required medical treatment. the failure mileage was not available. updated 06/29/16*lj
A few years ago the paint started wearing away and now it's pitted all over the car after normal use and driving. it looks horrible, so bad that people keep asking me what's wrong with my car.
Chrome plating of interior door handle peeled back and created a thin sharp edge. when i reached for the handle, to open the door, i cut my middle finger on the raised chrome plating. i suffered a laceration that became infected and ultimately put me in the hospital. i received i.v. antibiotics for a week and will continue taking oral antibiotics for another week. *tr
Several years ago, the clear coating on the top, back area of roof started peeling off and this year it became bigger about the size of 6 " x 18 " area. despite to my complaints to honda service dept., the auto body shop said it requires whole top rework is the only option that i have to pay for. last june, i reported to complain honda service dept manager, i was told to buy the paint pens for $15.00. even though i bought it, i have not apply it yet because the problem requires professional work to be done. i requested that honda is to be responsible to cover the work expenses, not me. after the service manager took the pictures of it, he claimed he will send paperwork to home office for review. i requested several times for a copy of paperwork to prove his claim he had processed the paperwork with photos. he never give to me. only he claimed he has not heard form corporate office. our last contact is last august. i researched recall and learned that civics are the only one being recalled for bad painting job. i request for an investigation that honda should recall for accord 2003 painting job, not just the civics! i can provide the photo when you contact me because i could not upload it to the desktop from my cellphone,
Called american honda today on a different matter. my concern was if the air bags in my car were manufactured by the company that is presently in the news. the case manager ,[xxx], assured me that the air bags in my accord were not subject to recall. however he was unable to advise the manufacturer of the air bag. furthermore he did advise that media reports and information from nhtsb were not totally accurate and erroneous. i did ask him to send me a written correspondence that my air bags were not subject to recall and would not explode by accident. he declined to do so.i guess honda does not want to place itself in a product liability issue with me. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
There is excessive rusting on the: wheel wells and in spots throughout the painted surfaces of the car. the rust on the painted surfaces do not seem to originate from any damage to the paints integrity (they start as bubbles that then break, showing bare metal past the primer). i have noticed these since the car's first year of ownership (2003) and new spots appear continuously. here is a representative picture i found on the web: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/andyxle/media/img_4151.jpg.html. *tr
Driver's car (left front) keyhole won't accept my key, electronically. i went to different auto services and have the same comments that most of the complaints were the same. i checked the internet, youtube.com, many owners of the same make, model & year have the same issues and problems, even the honda chat room help site. i thought this is an isolated problem, but it's not, if there is some ways that your company could do something about this matter/issue concerning the manufacturer's (honda) defect issue, please let us know, we don't want to shoulder to expenses on their behalf. thank you very much for your concern and looking forward to hearing from you the soonest and for the immediate response to repair the problem for the inconvenience that we are experiencing for a long time. i have tried cleaning the inside of the keyhole by air pressured and wd 40, nothing happened. i can insert the key halfway only and then it will stopped. all other keyholes are functioning well, except the driver's keyhole. *tr
The paint began peeling under trunk lid and has now started on roof, hood, and around rear and front glass. paint is peeling all the way to the metal in large sheets up to a dollar size at a time. *tr
I have just noticed the paint on my car is fading down to the body, this will cause rust and eventually a dangerous situation. i went online to find a solution, i've noticed there is a class action lawsuit possibly in the works (where we all know only the lawyers will have any benefits) yet the consumer, who were sold an inferior faulty product will have to settle for being ripped of by an "untouchable" corporation. *tr
The paint on this car has drastically began to peel and show chalky white. i thought to speak to the dealership about possible coverage in repainting but sat on the task. however, in the past few months i've been noticing this issue with the paint to be occurring on other accords that appear to share not only make and model but year and color. this is not supposed to be occurring on our cars and this utter humiliation deserves repair. *tr
Other driver was driving reckless!!!!! ran a red light at 60 miles an hour 20 miles over speed limit, side impact , air bags did not work!!!!!!! major brain injury as a result!!!!! *tr
Paint on the body of my car began peeling rapidly last summer. i do not treat my car with any special waxes, drive in extreme conditions or park my car in direct sunlight. the paint had deteriorated rapidly over the course of the past 8 months. i have noticed other hondas about the age of mine with this problem. *tr
My current complaint is deteriation of the paint on the roof and trunk deck of my nighthawk black accord. i have taken my concern to the service manager, american honda and the regional honda sales manager. in each instance i am told my vehicle is due to the age and mileage of my vehicle. this issue is caused by environmental exposure. the paint warranty is only for 3 year/36 miles. this is a known issue with accords, civics, etc. honda does not want to stand behind defective paint. *tr
Over time, the clearcoat on the hood, spoiler, trunk lid & hood has delaminated. *tr
This car has a manufacturer's defect and the clear coat is coming off. it will need to be repainted. *tr
Trunk lid won't stay up. when trunk lid up, it comes crashing down on my head. it has done this for several years, and has gotten worse. it has put several gashes in my head. honda says the bar connecting to the hinges own made anymore. there must be a way to fix this before i get a concussion.
My honda accord 2003 has the clear coat of the paint coming off. the locations right now are the hood and the roof of the car. the car has been kept out of the sun under a carport. i've read where several people have had the same exact problem with the defective clear coat. i believe that honda should repaint my car for free. *tr
The paint or clear coating is peeling from roof, hood and trunk area of the car. looks like crap. it keeps getting worse and worse
Since the purchase i've experienced continual transmission problems. upon speaking with the dealership i was assured all was fine. you can imagine my surprise when i received notice of the transmission recall (nhtsa 04v176000). upon repair, in september 2004, i did not notice repair improvement, and continued to detect the rough grind of transmission shift and a whining sound. in 2009 i experienced a catastrophic transmission failure to which i had sought repair. in december 2010 i experienced another transmission failure. i have just now experienced my 3rd transmission failure, july 2011. my power steering pump had always had a faint whine, but honda services never identified it as concerning. the problem progressively became worse until honda finally suggested a repair, but informed me that the component was then out of warranty and would be a costly repair. i decided to delay repair until june 2011. ac problems manifested in september 2005 and required replacement in april 2008. my center council clock and temperature display has been flickering, dimmed, and absent since 2009. the interlock stuck issue first materialized in 2008 and serviced in july 2010. my airbag warning light has been active since 2008 with an occasional but repetitive tcs alert; and my headlamp glass has been hazed since 2005. the paint deterioration is ridiculously embarrassing, the leather seating began showing wear 2 years in, my seatbelt doesn't return to the original released position, head liner has water leak stains, cd player stopped working, exposed wiring is visible at the driver door hinge, i've gone through 3 batteries, countless tires, one cracked windshield, and i have always suffer from poor radio reception and occasional navigational signal roaming issues. in these times of thrift conscious fuel consumption, i utilize my nav tools to monitor my driving activity. i'm stunned to report i get a fuel economy of 24 mpg highway, not the 31 mpg as sticker reports. *tr
The clear coat is delaminating/peeling from the paint coat on my 2003 honda accord. i went to the dealer and was told by the service manager there is nothing they can do, i meet with the customer service rep. this week. i believe that this delamination and peeling must be a factory defect and should be corrected by honda. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the rod that holds the trunk in place fell down on her head. she noticed that the trunk rod was covered with rust. the dealer was informed of the failure and advised her to bring the vehicle in to be repaired under warranty. the manufacturer was contacted and also informed her to contact the dealer and nhtsa. they offered no additional assistance. the failure mileage was 88,000.
Body paint on the honda accord is fading in patches across various areas of the vehicle. i was unsure of the cause of this issue until seeing photos online of other honda vehicles from that same time period with similar damage. websites blame the problem on honda's primer/paint from the period when the cars were manufactured. i believe the carmaker should cover the cost of repairs for the body paint.
Clear coat is peeling off entire car. *js
The paint began fading and peeling. noticed on my hondas that are the same make and model. *tr
I've noticed over the last couple of years that the paint has faded. it seems like the clear coat has been removed. there's severe damage to the hood, roof, front fender, and the trunk. possibly because the manufacture used poor quality paint.
Both front doors on my 2003 honda accord 4 door will not stay open when opened. when either door is opened to the fully opened position, then released, the door will usually swing shut on its own. i feel that this is a safety issue because it could cause an injury during an unexpected closing. this problem can be corrected by the replacement of a part in each door. honda will not fix the problem unless payment is made for parts and labor. *tr
Clear coat began separating from the paint and has only gotten worse. now vehicle is in unsaleable condition. *tr
Was never notified of ghost paint recall for this car. really terrible that honda has this problem with their paint. *tr
Black paint began fading in spots on hood and fenders. paint is now almost completely gone. *tr
Front passenger and rear left door handle chrome plating is peeling off. plating is very sharp and caused a deep gash on finger of passenger while opening door. was informed was not covered by warranty. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that there were rust spots on the hood. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was approximately 70,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact experienced failures with the window motors, the front driver and passenger doors, and the rear passenger door. the dealer was notified and the front driver side door was repaired. the other two doors and window motors were not repaired. the failure continued to occur intermittently. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
I own a black honda accord purchased new in 2003 from robertson honda north hollywood. after about five years of ownership i noticed the edges of the roof starting to fade, at first i though it was just a little wax left on, but after i couldn't remove it i knew there was a problem starting. every time i would go in for service i would mention it to the service writer but they would just brush it off. i still wash my honda once a week sometimes more and wax it every three months but its starting to look pretty bad. i am afraid its going to get in the metal and rust. please help me and all the other honda owners i see every day on the way to work [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My 2003 honda accord exl started to rust through the left rear wheel well lip this past winter. the car has been meticulously maintained with the records to prove so. the car was damaged at the back edge of the left rear door and repaired at the body shop both joyce honda and grecco auto body are subsidiaries of the grecco auto group selling & repairing hondas. the honda factory rep. said the rear quarter panel would have to be replaced but that the rust was due to the accident and subsequent repair and therefore honda was not responsible. the honda dealers body shop and state farm insur. claims rep. maintain that the rust was far behind the area that was repaired and was not due to the accident. attached are photographs of the small dent by the door just above the body trim line and the rust at the very top of the wheel opening. in essence, the service manager of joyce honda and the factory rep (who would not give me a business card or name) said the rust is a result of the repair and not their responsibility. while grecco auto body and the auto inspector for state farm insurance said the rust is far to the rear of the repaired area and not the result of the repair. i had the repair done at the dealers body shop to avoid a situation as this where no one is accepting responsibility to correct a problem. thus the three entities of the same business, honda motor co., joyce honda dealership, and grecco auto body are blaming each other and my car continues to prematurely rust through. attached are photographs of the rust, the car, and the itemized repair as well as contact information of parties involved. i am expecting honda to honor the rust perforation warranty. *tr the consumer stated the catalytic was replaced under warranty on july 10, 2009. now less than a year later, the consumer was informed it needed to replaced again. the dealer informed the consumer honda would not stand behind the replacement catalytic converter. updated ivoq 12/28/10
Took my car in for a regular oil change. hours later i received a phone call from the service advisor asking me, if i had time so he could talk to me regarding my car. i said, yes and the service advisor from honda dealership went on to tell me that i needed my transmission fluid changed, brake fluid changed, and my engine coolant changed. the total amount of cost came to $500.29 which i thought i was being ripped off. the honda service advisor also went on to tell me that i need to have my front struts replaced because they are bad. i noticed when i would make a right hand turn i would hear a squeaky noise. he confirmed that it was my front struts. i ask the service advisor how long does it normally take for struts to wear out he told me around 80,000-100,000 miles well my 2003 honda accord ex only have 48,000 miles on it. i'm assuming that i probably started off with bad struts in the beginning since i had my honda accord ex, i have had nothing but problems. now, that my car is out of warranty i'm hit with a huge fee to get struts replaced on a car which i think was bad in the first place. my honda accord ex was originally purchased by me in december of 2002. i have been the only driver of the car. at this time i would never purchase another honda accord. i used to have an 2000 honda accord ex never had a problem. since i have had this car there have been recalls on my car. i have had problems with the door latches, inside panel on passenger side coming off. sunroof rubber coming unglued. i had to have the windshield replaced bad wipers which scratched the windshield up. new radio system. trouble with the lights for the heated seats, dash board lights went out. radio lights went out. i was sold a complete lemon. i believe honda should look into my maintenance record and see all the problems i have had with this car and really consider replacing the struts for me. i do not have an extended warranty it's going to cost me $700. ...
The rubber gasket around my moonroof is rotting away. the car was purchased in august 2003 and i am the original owner. due to high mileage, i am out of the original warranty. i was told by the honda dealer in covington, louisiana that the gasket cannot be purchased separately, thus i will have to buy an entire sunroof assembly to cure the defect. this will cost in excess of $500. the gasket has never been damaged and the rot appears to be from normal weather conditions. the problem was first noticed about 6 months ago, i.e., a little over two years after the car was purchased new. *jb
Have been involved in 3 accidents where i feel that air bag should have deployed, resulting in extra damages and injury that wasnt treated
I have a 203 honda accord ex. the center console light failed. now i cannot operate the defroster controls, radio or any other air conditioning function because the screen is no longer visible. *jb
While driving at 60 mph consumer noticed that the trunk was open . consumer examined the vehicle, and found that the latches and the hinges were rusted. dealer examined the vehicle and simply put wrong straps on the trunk to keep it shut.*ak
Two front end alignments were performed and the tires were rotated. a technical service bulletin indicated that this problem occurred because the crate upon which the engine sits was not positioned correctly at the factory. the dealership positioned the crate correctly, but the problem recurred. *ak the consumer noticed when he backed up the vehicle , a click would be heard as if the gear was not positioned correctly. the vehicle was pulling to the right. the consumer also felt something like a crate or tire axle would shift to one side. *sc the consumer was told that was the way the vehicle was designed. *jb
I wash the vehicle weekly and on my weekly wash i realized that the paint was peeling. i brought the car to my honda dealership where they said they were not responsible. the car at the time was only 1 year old. now there are various areas on the car where the paint is peeling.*ak
My 2003 accord ex v-6 has developed a loud popping or creaking sound from beneath the driver's side floor pan every time i accelerate, decelerate, or turn into a corner. the dealer told me it was normal when i first officially complained at 7,000 miles, but as time has passed, the noise has gotten worse. the dealer has attempted to fix it 5 times, but has not yet found a solution. with some research, i discovered a honda service bulletin (03-058) that states body welds were improperly finished during the manufacturing process, and that the structure must be re-welded. my dealer told me there was "excess flex" in the body of my car, and as a result, multiple squeaks and rattles are developing. i believe this is a severe structural fault that is putting my safety at risk in the case of a crash and will continue to cause damage to my car due to body flex for years to come. i have requested that honda replace the car. *jb
1. car was sold as a white honda accord, all bumpers are eggshell, dealer told me that is the color on all white honda vehicals. 2. car pulls to the right at all speeds, dealer told me that is the way all new hondas are built to vere off the road rather then oncoming traffic. 3. brakes make a loud clicking noise after in reverse to drive, dealer said that was the brakes resetting.*ak
The engine emitted a rotten egg smell. the driver heard a grinding noise. the vehicle also had a brake problem. the driver's seat was not stable. the vehicle has been taken to the dealer at least 9 times for multiple problems. *nm paint on the hood is flaking. seat is not fixed. the door panel was fixed twice but problem still exists. consumer confronted dealership about problem with vehicle but consumer was ignored. consumer called american honda to report issue with dealer. *la
The consumer noticed a piece of plastic 15 inches long by 7 inches wide fell off from the front bumper. the dealer has been notified and the floor manger indicated they will get in contact with the district representative. *jb
1.front brakes grind for the first 1-2 stops after sitting overnight or 1-2 hours. 2. rattle or creaking sound in the drivers side window and b column, unresolved after 3 trys by the dealer to fix.only present while driving on mildly coarse road surface.*ak
Driver side window and windshield are creaking when driving over left side bumps. car taken to dealer who claims this is normal body flex which is incorrect. research indicates that this is possibly due to a pillar clips or mohawk strip, however dealer inspected the a pillar and claims it is "tightened to spec". *nlm
Falling acorns have left many pock marks on the body of my 2003 accord. my other car is parked in the same area with no damage. the metal on the 2003 accord feels significantly weaker to the touch than the body of my other cars. this car looks like it was pelted with hail stones. it seems to me that a car should withstand the impact of an acorn! *la
