We have classified the 38 complaints from 2003 Honda Accord about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
Had rotors resurfaced at 5000 miles as warped--honda certified garage/dealership tried saying i had tightened the lug nuts too tight?! brakes again into shop at 17000 miles for replacement. my warranty just expired and have 30300 miles on it and there is still a problem with my brakes. problem is extremely noticeable at speeds over 40 mph when applying brakes--car feels like it will run right off the road. also, big problem with water leaking into front windows when there is the slightest bit of rain and have the windows cracked. water gets into the power window buttons. this appears to be a design flaw.*ak
Have brake problems with a 2003 honda accord ex. i had the brakes replaced at 24,000 miles and still had problems and was told to have the rotors replaced because they are warped. this seems to be too early in mileage to have these type of repeat problems. *jb
2003 accord v6 constant rotor service. rotor service at 15,000 (machined, was not charged), 30,000 (front replaced rotors and pads paid by dealer, rear machined & new pads paid by me, 35,000 rotors need repair (service scheduled for 6/8 and i am not paying again!). i had a mazda prior to this auto with 80,000 miles and the rotors were only serviced once within that time.*ak
When the brakes were applied, there was a shuttering in the front end. as a result, the vehicle was almost involved in an accident. *ak defective brake pads were installed during manufacturing. excessive heat warped the rotors and affected the steering. *sc *jb
Barke rotors warped on my 2003 accord with only 10,000 miles on them- dealer turned the rotors and put on new pads; however, there was no notification from honda regarding the problem- this is a safety issue- all affected cars should be given new rotors. *ak
Started feeling vibration when braking at 45mph before 10,000 miles. technician looked at it, determined the rotors were warped, but brake pads were fine. after research, found this was a recurring problem among owners of 2003 accord, v6 and 4-cyl. (mine is 4cyl). seems like honda has a problem! *ak
At high speed, severe steering wheel shake when brake pedal depressed. also, loud grinding sound with limited braking ability. progressively got worse from new until 21,500 miles where almost couldn't stop. abs and tcs lights also came on. dealer said honda has issued a bulletin to replace with a less aggressive updated pad and had to order wheel monitoring sensor to fix light indicator problem. dealer had to cut rotor to install new pads.
The dealer replaced the front brakes at 6,800 miles. at 22,469 miles, dealer indicated to the consumer that she needs to replace the rear brakes at owner's expense. *la
I have a 2003 accord that started to show the rear brake pads were excessively worn at 12,000 miles. at the 18 month servicing, my mechanic informed me that my rear brakes needed to be replaced at 19,000. i had the brake pads replaced at my cost because my mechanic told me that the brakes were not safe to be driven on. i took my car to the dealer where i had purchased it. the service manager stated that it may be due to "the way that i drive the car". this is the third honda accord that i have purchased since 1995, and i have replaced rear brakes on the first accord due to a broken spring at 72,000 miles. i have had at least 10 new cars in my lifetime and have not had to replace the rear brakes, except for the incident mentioned on the car with 72,000 miles. i do not feel safe with the brakes going up in such a short span of time. i am also wondering if i will need to replace them again every 19,000 miles? my mechanic has told me that he has never seen rear braked going up at 19,000. my car also has a whining sound when i turn the ignition, but not everytime that i start the car.*ak
Purchased car new in nov 2002 from college park honda in maryland. took car to honda of bowie for second oil change and tire rotation at 6349 miles on may 10,2003. returned car to honda of bowie 7 days later for vibration in steering wheel while driving above 40 mi per hour. dealership balanced front tires at no charge. returned car to honda of bowie on june28, 2003 with 8287 miles for steering wheel vibration when braking. i was told the front rotors were slightly warped and dealer resurfaced rotors free of charge. problem reoccurred at around 15,000 miles but did not get car in for service until mileage was 18,003 on april 9, 2004. took it to college park honda where i purchased and explained the problem. before looking at car service rep told me it was probably due to my driving habits (lots of stop and go). i have had the same commute for over 10 years and never had this kind of problem before. i said i'd be very unhappy if i had to replace the brakes at 18,000 miles. service rep said it was very common to replace brakes and rotors at 18,000 miles. i reiterated my unhappiness if i was going to have to pay for the repair. i believed it should be covered under warranty. after inspecting the brakes i was told the front rotors were glazed and the pad were cracked. they resurfaced the rotors (that's twice in 10,000 miles) and replaced the pads under warranty as a "one time courtesy". the problem came back within 7 days of the repair. i have an appointment to take my car back today ( 4 weeks to the day since they worked on it). i believe the rotors are defective or have been resurfaced too much and need to be replaced. i am expecting that they will try to tell me this is somehow my fault and expect me to pay for the repair. i believe from reading all the other complaints which are so similar to mine, that the 2003 honda accords have a brake problem that the company does not want to address.*ak
I purchased my new 2003 honda accord lx coupe in apr 2003. in dec 2003, i took my car in for an oil change and was told that i needed to leave my car there because of the brakes. they replaced the master cylinder. less than 4 months later, while in rush hour traffic, the brakes failed as my foot nearly went completely to the floor. i shifted the gears down and was able to stop the car that way, no accident. i took my car back to the dealership service dept (it was a thursday). the next day they called me and said they couldn't find anything wrong. i insisted that something was wrong. when i went to pick up the car, i was told by the service repair person that the mechanic decided to probe further due to my insistance and he subsequently found air bubbles in the brake fluid. they bled my brakes. that following monday, something else went wrong. at the time i believed the problem to be the brakes, but now i am not so sure. while pulling into a parking space at my apartment, it felt as though the brakes slipped. my foot was on the brake pedal, but it did not stop; it almost seemed as though the car sped up a little, while my foot went to the floor. in a panic, i took my foot off the brake and pressed it again. i heard the tires squeal, but by that point it was too late. i ended up hitting a pole. state farm had my car evaluated to determine if there was a problem with the brakes that could have caused the accident. i took it to the same dealership shop, but only under the condition that the state farm inspector check the car with them. thirty minutes into the inspection the state farm inspector left and my car was subsequently left for approx 1-1/2 hours soley with the dealership . at the end of the 2-hour inspection, i was told no problems with my brakes. i now drive my car fearfully, hoping that nothing else will go wrong. *ak
03 accord lx brake rotors warped. when stopping there is a vibration in the steering and brake pedal. brake pads also squeek and make grinding noise. will bring to dealer for assessment
My 2003 honda accord has had a shudder when braking practically since i've owned the car-bought new in feb. 2002.. my mechanic told me the brakes would still work and i could drive the car as long as i was aware of the problem. i thought the honda dealership in omaha had damaged the brakes while fixing the abs system due to a recall. i now see it was probably a design flaw--since so many other owners of this model have experienced the same thing. now the brakes need replacement, and i will ask for non-honda parts. i previously owned a 1999 honda accord, and it was wonderful. this 2003 is not--in addition to the brake problem, the paint scratches easily and the interior is of very cheap materials, the ac smells bad when turned on, and the car has had electrical problems--many occurring after it was no longer under warranty. i will not buy another honda vehicle. *tr
Consumer purchased vehicle brand new, and when he drove it brakes overheated and vehicle vibrated. brake rotors were warped. took vehicle to the dealer, and was told that this vehicle had a different type of brakes, and they needed to be specially ordered. it took a long time to get this particular kind of brakes. then, mechanic drove vehicle , but was not able to find anything wrong. consumer had his vehicle back, and the problem with the brakes became worse. consumer maintained that honda knew about these brakes and were not doing anything about them. *ak
1. car was sold as a white honda accord, all bumpers are eggshell, dealer told me that is the color on all white honda vehicals. 2. car pulls to the right at all speeds, dealer told me that is the way all new hondas are built to vere off the road rather then oncoming traffic. 3. brakes make a loud clicking noise after in reverse to drive, dealer said that was the brakes resetting.*ak
The engine emitted a rotten egg smell. the driver heard a grinding noise. the vehicle also had a brake problem. the driver's seat was not stable. the vehicle has been taken to the dealer at least 9 times for multiple problems. *nm paint on the hood is flaking. seat is not fixed. the door panel was fixed twice but problem still exists. consumer confronted dealership about problem with vehicle but consumer was ignored. consumer called american honda to report issue with dealer. *la
Since purchasing my brand new 2003 honda accord in june 2003, there has been a severe grinding and vibration coming from the brakes. i have gone back and forth to the dealer (herb chambers, burlington, ma) 4 times for the problem. first they ground the rotors (the car was only 2 months old). the problem still occured and i brought it back a week later and the "supposedly" replaced the rotors and pads but they refused to let me see the old parts when i requested them. problem has been getting worse and we brought it back again twice in february and the dealer insists there is nothing wrong with the brakes. they only drove it 1 -2 miles each time. the problem is intermittent and the car must be driven all the time as my family does. i already had a minor accident when the brakes did not stop at all at only 5 mph. i wrote honda applying the massachusetts lemon law and they ignored it. i received nothing in writing of their findings. i went to an independent brake specialist who looked at the brakes and said he didn't think they were replaced - only turned. i then went to another honda dealer who says that honda is well aware of the brake problem (severe grinding and vibration) and are doing nothing about it. a customer service rep named mark keeps calling us but for a week, every time we call him back, we get his voice mail and he never calls us. the problem still exists. the car is a lemon and the nhtsa website shows many others experiencing the same problem. honda won't do anything unless someone gets killed. they need to acknowledge the problem. i have complained to the bbb in massachusetts as well as the attorney general's office. i have also placed calls to the three local media stations and my attorney. *ak
Front brake rotors continue to warp. i have taken the vehicle into honda 4 times since owning the vehicle and the rotors have been resurfaced and new brake pads put on. the front brake rotors have never been replaced. the vibration is very bad when braking. *tt
Within a few months of ownership after buying this car new my wife began complaining that the car pulsed under braking. after about 2 years and ~ 25k miles the pulsing/vibration got much, much worse so i took the vehicle to the dealer while car was still under warranty. the dealer told me i needed to have rotors turned and new pads installed, and that it would cost me almost $200. the dealer did not tell me honda issued a service tsb (tsb# 03-069) regarding this problem and that the service should be done under warranty per honda. i never received any notice of a tsb from honda telling me they were having issues with brakes on this vehicle. as i was unaware of the brake problems specific to this vehicle i did not have the service performed at that time because i thought the dealer was lying to me as i have never had a car that had brake rotor problems at on only a few thousand miles. not telling me of the problem was negligent of the dealer and manufacturer, someone could have been hurt or killed if the brakes failed. to try and solve the problem i first took the car to a tire shop and had the wheels rebalanced which cost me $50, that did not solve the problem so i spent another $90 on new brake pads which i did myself, which also did not help...anyway now at 47k miles the vibration that occurs when needing to stop from highway speed is so severe the whole car shakes, it is unsafe to drive. i researched the problem on internet forums and this is how i found out about the tsb, but my car is now far out of warranty, so i now must have it fixed myself, and it will probably start to happen again. this is a safety issue and should have been recalled, and replaced with updated and safe parts. i have never had any brake rotor problems on any car i ever owned before this car. honda's solution (even if done free under warranty) of turning rotors is a temporary fix at best and is unacceptable as the problem would have recurred later. *jb
My '03 4d accord, purchased in bentonville,ar, has required replacement or machining of the front brake rotors four times due to warping (resulting in pulsating braking). each repair has lasted about 5000 miles. i've logged about 400k miles in hondas in the last 14yrs and have never had this problem; accustomed to going at least 150k mi (before trading) with no rotor problems. *cb
While driving in inclement weather conditions and when depressing the brakes pedal is delayed in braking, which results in extended stopping distance. *ak
Rotors warped after 8000 miles. had to replace pads and rotors at 15000 miles. dealer admitted there was an issue with brakes on this car, but honda won't do anything about it.
While driving at any speed and when the brakes were depressed vehicle jerked to one side or the other. also, there was a grinding sound coming from the front wheels. dealer repaired the problem free of charge, claiming that old brake pads were updated. *ak
1.front brakes grind for the first 1-2 stops after sitting overnight or 1-2 hours. 2. rattle or creaking sound in the drivers side window and b column, unresolved after 3 trys by the dealer to fix.only present while driving on mildly coarse road surface.*ak
Honda 2003 accord v6 sedan. brakes pulsating, after only 12,000 miles. brought into shop, paid to have resurfaced. 2,000 miles later doing it again. im dealing with dealership now. reading all sorts of complaints online that its a defect. its the drivers it's the car defect.*ak
While applying the brakes brake pedal went to the floor. this caused the vehicle to skid into a guard rail. consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for analysis, and mechanic noticed that both rotors needed to be replaced due to corrosion. *ak
Brakes failed to grab when in an emergency breaking situation and the car would not stop which caused me to hit another vehicle. the brakes have been making a gringing noise when applied even prior to this incident. i took it to the dealer and they stated there was a stone between the pads and the rotors. the grinding noise persists.*ak
Bought brand new 2003 honda accord ex-v6 in 9/03. by 12/03 at 4700 miles, the front brakes were not working. per tsb 03-069 honda replaced the front brake pads with "new" part number 45022-sdb-a10. two months later, 2/04, the car had brake problems again at 7400 miles. this time honda "resurfaced" the rotors and said the pads were fine. how can pads be fine if they are harming the rotors? the car is still unsafe when braking from highway speeds. honda says that it is my fault! i have been driving since 1989, never gone through brakes in under 30k miles. it is now 6/04, car has 11,500 miles, and the brakes still don't work right! honda needs to replace pads and rotors with redesigned safe parts, asap!*ak
2003 honda accord, been into dealer twice for brake shudder and grinding noise. rotor was resurfaced, dealer says brake problems are the result of hard braking. still have problems, not resolved. *ak
Ongoing problem with faulty brake pads. causes vibration on high speeds and noises. company alleges brake pads need to be replaced and pads are on back order. problems increasing with additional vehicle use. *ak
Recurring brake rotor warped problem on 2003 honda accord ex sedan.. problem first noted around 18k miles.. dealer resurfaced brakes at 30k miles, after complaint was issued.. about 1500 miles later problem recurred.. symptom appears to come from front brakes, at the end of braking a metallic shudder occurs for the last 2 seconds.. intermittently upon freeway exiting the problem seems to last much longer, shudder causes the driver to question if the brakes will work or not.. this is the 6th honda i have owned in the past 14 years, and the first one to exhibit such behavior.. i have read other complaints, posts on the internet whereas many drivers are having the same complaint on this newly redesigned model accord. some posts have made the suggestion that the caliper is the actual defective part of the braking system, all i know, is the warping rotor is causing a very serious and dangerous driving situation. *nm
While driving at any speed the consumer pressed the gas and brake pedals at the same time. consumer felt that the brake pedal was not high enough and away from the gas pedal. *ak the brakes would grind when coming to a slow stop. the dealer refinished the front disc and installed new front brake pads. *nm
Brakes on 2003 honda accord making really bad clunking and screeching noises. honda issued a tsb-03-069. but, dealer says my car is normal. i've never had a car which made so much braking noises. i've also heard that many other accord owners are having the same problem. this should be a safety issue, because the brakes feel as though they're going to fail everytime they start making noises. new cars braking systems shouldn't clunk and screech like this. makes me scared to press down on the brakes hard. *jb
When starting the car, then putting the car into reverse, the power brakes feel dead. there is almost no "play" in the brake pedal, causing the car to continue rolling. brake pedal does not go down and car continues to go into reverse until i pump the brakes several times.*ak
When the brake pedal was depressed vehicle failed to stop immediately. the brakes made a grunting noise, and vehicle jerked forward with force. this almost resulted in an accident. this vehicle was equipped with traction control. also, brakes made a grinding noise. however, dealership indicated that this was normal because of the type of braking system that the vehicle had. dealership performed a diagnostic test, in which no failure code was found. a factory representative inspected the vehicle, but the cause of the failure was undetermined. *ak the vehicle has had four significant brake failures within the last 7000 miles. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but they have been unable to duplicate the problem. *nm
The abs system seemed to "over reacted" during a panic stop situation, causing me to hit the car in front of me. it felt like the braking pressure was being significantly reduced even though i had my foot to the floor on the brake pedal. i feel that if the abs system had not engaged and backed off the brakes, i would have stopped in time. also, only the passenger side airbag went off, even though i hit the car in front of me at less than 5 mph. it should not have gone off, but if it "thought" that it was a severe crash, why didn't my airbag go off? i would like for you to check the abs system to insure that this does not happen to anyone else. please contact me asap to let me know if this is possible. thank you. *la
My 2003 honda accord has 13,800 miles on it. since the front rotors are warping, it already had these replaced once and resurfaced once. these repairs tend to last about 3000 miles before the symptoms of the problem return (vibration when braking at highway speeds, and pulsating stops at slow speeds). *la
2003 honda accord coupe ex v6 mt w/nav. experienced brake pedal pulsations and steering wheel shaking when braking. front rotors have been resurfaced twice, at 7000 and again at 15600. this looks like a recurrent problem in the new generation accord's. must be faulty brake/rotor design.*ak
I purchased a brand new 2003 honda accord coupe on march 31, 2003. ihave owned the car for 14 months and i have 13,252 miles on the car. i have had to have the rotors and front brakes replaced/resurfaced 3 times or basically every 3500 to 4500 miles. i have been informed that the rotors keep warping due to factory defect. i have come very close to having two accidents due to failure of brakes. this is a very serious safety issue. *ak
Vehicle does not brake smoothly, pedal is very sensitive to the slightest pressure.*mr the dealer was notified but failed to fix to make repairs. *cb
I own a 2003 honda accord which i've owned for 3 years with in the last 3 years i have had to replace my brakes rotors pads and calibers 5 times my brakes over heat and sometimes wont stop this is a known issues to honda and they have done nothing to fix it im afraid to drive my car cause i don't know if im ever going to stop even after having to had my brakes repaired 5 times and yet car still does the same thing someone needs to recall the brakes on this car before someone dies. *tr
At 8000 miles, had the front rotors turned down. judder returned about 3000 miles later, but not repaired (explained as road conditions). now at 22000 miles, need new rotors and pads for front left brake. brakes went from acceptable to unusable within a 500 mile trip. *la
Vehicle is less than one year old, at 5000 miles brakes would give an uneven feeling when stopping. now at 9500 miles vehicle shimmies and shakes when brakes are applied. dealer states brakes should be resurfaced. personal mechanic states rotors are warped. at highway speeds the shaking affects the positive control of vehicle. *la
On one of my visit to the dealer to complaint about my the brakes on my car i also complained about the fact that my car makes noise when i am driving on surface that should not make my car sound like their doors are not put on correctly. i thought because it was new it was just a new car squeak but when i drive with the radio off i can hear this noise and i can just imagine what it will sound like when the car is not so new. when i drive in any other vehicle i listen for this sound and i don't hear this noise but as usual the dealer cannot find it. i will be taking in my car for the same brake problems again. on 9/12/203. this will be the fourth time. the first time was on nov/6/2002,and they resurface the rotors. the second time was on feb/1/2003, they replace both front disc. the third time may/01/2003, they replace brake pads. the pads are very high and the rotors are thick. there is no sign of warp or roughness that i can feel whem i inspect the brakes and i am some what familiar with brakes.
Around 5,000 miles the brakes on 2003 honda accord began giving a grab and release feel while apply constant pressure to the brake pedal at low speeds. at speeds over 40 mph this translated to a definite vibration in both the steering wheel and brake pedal. took car into the dealership at 7500 miles and complained about the problem. it was found that the rotors were warped .050 and showed signs of bluing. front rotors were resurfaced and brake pads replaced, no charge. problem has been corrected for now with 1,000 miles added since the repair. *la
While applying the brakes consumer heard a loud squeaking noise coming from the front of the vehicle. consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. the mechanic determined that brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced, and replaced them. however, the problem recurred.*ak
After three months of ownerships, brake rotors began to warp. brought back into dealer, they stated the rotors were warped. they resurfaced the rotors two times during that visit. it has been only 2000 miles since the resurfacing and my rotors are warping again.003 honda accord ex v6.*ak
2003 honda accord noticed pulsation in brake pedal after 1000 miles. dealer resurfaced front rotors at 4600 miles. this did not fix the problem and the rear rotors were resurfaced at 9000 miles. this problem continued and the front rotors were replaced at 14000 miles. all of these repairs were done free of charge but done hesitantly. now the car has 20000 miles and all four rotors are again warped and the pads are glazed. the dealership is now refusing to fix the problem free of charge and is blaming the problem on poor driving habits. 2/3 of the vehicles milage is on the interstate and is not driven aggressively in any way. *ak
2003 honda accord 2dr coupe mt. due to steerig wheel vibration induced by braking speeds >40mph i brought my car to the dealer and had my brake rotors resurfaced since the rotors were discovered to be warped. this problem is apparently a consistent problem on this vehicle. i have heard that possible wheel torque problems are causing the warping of these rotors. i have never had another vehicle with this type of problem.*ak
Warped rotors at 6,000 miles. *ak
