Recently reported SEAT BELTS problems on 2000 Honda Accord

The "srs" light is on in the dashboard. it has been determined that the passenger seat belt latch is faulty. it is dangerous to ride a passenger in this vehicle for fear that the seat belt would not work properly if the vehicle was in an accident or just hit by another driver. please advise on the repair procedures. the pixels on the mileage and miles driven is not working properly. the mileage and miles drives numbers cannot be read.

Takata recall srs light has remained consistently on in the instrument panel since 10/20/16. i was told by the garage that services my car that i need to have my airbag replaced. the light had come on after i started my car, and it has not shut off since.

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. while driving 10 mph over potholes or bumps in the road, the seat belt ratcheting system tightened up the passenger side seat belt. the seat belt failed and would not readjust tension until unhitched and returned back to the start position. the manufacturer was notified. the vin and failure mileage were unknown.

The arm broke into on my car. the welding was bad. also the clear coat look awful, it was painted cheaply and , it a eye sore. i just want it fixed . i love my car, but should not have to deal with recalls.

The passenger side seatbelt locks prematurely at low speeds and will not retract properly. we were told by the dealer that seatbelts are not under a lifetime warranty if it is mechanical in nature. the passenger seatbelt also grinds when pulled and the dealer is being difficult to repair. the driver side seatbelt is slow to retract but appears to be working properly. *tr

I have had trouble with my honda's seat belt staying locked in. i've also have the srs light on after a battery change. i figured out how to reset it but it comes right back on. i have taken the car into honda and they tell me my car is "not affected" by any recalls...i explained the seat belts are supposed to be covered under a lifetime warranty. they wanted 125.00 diagnostic fee to determine if it was the seat belt and what the code is if it isn't the seat belt i have to pay the diagnostic fee and 800.00.to get the airbags to work for something that is supposed to be covered under a lifetime warranty,.i even tried going back to a different service adviser. reading online i see that many people have the srs failure and some suspect the cause relates to battery and alternator voltage! appears to be a convenient failure to state whatever they want and get the owner to pay! recently, honda has had to recall airbags. maybe it's a blessing that people's airbags have been rendered useless since they blow up and have killed people!! i hope the nhtsa realizes how many peoples airbags haven't even been working! well surprise, my car isn't covered under the latest airbag replacement. i am most dissatisfied with honda they are not standing behind their products and don't seem to care if they lose customers (by death or otherwise). i tried calling there 800 number several times to no avail they were rude and condescending. this was my 3rd honda and my last. the recall even states there is not to be a charge to check this however, they will not without me paying there fee! don't care the nhtsa and honda's own recall notice is irrelevant to them. in light of the latest issues with airbags i think i will write an editorial for the local news or maybe call the local television station to highlight this issue ongoing blatant disregard for their customers. *tr

Srs warning light. unable to analyze. drl warning light comes on intermittenly. *tr

I am not on the recall list however i called honda as the srs light remains on. after speaking to 4 representatives at honda they informed me that the previous owner responded to a recall in 2006 service bulletin recall 06-009 - code opds which is for faulty airbags and seatbelts. the previous owner had repair done according to honda 3/31/2010 - 10 year warranty. i bought this car at 89000 odometer on 10/11/2012. approx. 6 months ago the srs light came on. i contacted honda with no assistance as they said there is a 10 year warranty on this recall. yesterday i started by getting assistance from emily, briana, nicole and alexis at honda - case no. n012015-05-2002159 and to expect a call from honda. yesterday afternoon james (no id or last name) regional case manager. he informed me that he could not assist me. 1. i am not the original owner. 2. i am not a loyal honda owner as i have not bought another honda. 3. no repairs through honda. 4. the car is over 10 years old. i informed him to check another recall which supercedes the previous recall and dated 3/14/2006. he informed me to have the repair done at my expense at honda and the case is closed. i told him that this was a fault with honda and it is not 10 years since the recall and i fear driving my only car with an enormous problem in case of an accident - seat belts and airbags and an enormous danger to me and my grandchildren. he informed me that this was not his or honda's responsibility. please help me. i need honda to take responsibility.

Srs light illuminated, airbags will not deploy if involved in accident. this has occurred on our 2000 honda accord with 67k miles on it. we understand that the warranty has been extended for this issue to 10 years or 150k miles, ours is now ten years old. we feel this is unacceptable and that honda should cover this for the lifetime of the vehicle. this is why people buy vehicles with all the airbags...safety! honda should cover this problem no questions asked!! for life.*dt

Honda accord 2000 srs light on and stays on. checked on line many honda owners have that issue and airbag would not deploy. called honda customer service told me my vin is not covered under their extended warranty, need to pay for diagnostic check. this is serious safety issue, wanted to bring to your attention. *tr

For no apparent reason at all (no moisture problem; no cell phone, computer, etc. use; no disconnecting anything at all, much less related to seat belts, passenger seat occupancy, seat removal, etc.) the srs light came on and has remained on for many months. google shows this to be a widespread problem, which has triggered a very wide range of responses from honda. this has been a wonderful car given timely completion of all scheduled maintenance. but the srs light problem, since it involves the safety restraining systems, should be guaranteed for the life of the car. but, given the various ways people with this issue have been treated, i am reluctant to take the vehicle to honda. it may only require a reset for the light, which should cost nothing. but charges for a diagnosis are in the $70-100 range. then, if there is actually a problem with safety, fixes have cost in a range of $600-1500. the whole situation is absurd.

I have a 2000 honda accord. the "srs" light came on the dash and stays on whenever the ignition is on. i took it to the dealer and they told me it is a switch within the driver's side seat belt buckle. they told me the belt and the buckle are covered under the seat belt warranty but the switch is not covered and the diagnostic test is not covered either. the whole assembly is part of the safety system and should be covered along with the diagnostic test. *tr

Nhtsa action number: pe05043 already had service in 2009, srs problem back, dealer refused warranty corrective action. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the seat belt fails to lock after the restraints are pulled in place. she purchased the vehicle "as is". the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer for repair, but they could not make the repairs. she was advised to call the honda manufacturer to check if the recall pertained to her vehicle. the failure mileage was 165,041.

The srs light came on and has remained on since. my car is garaged, has 48,000 miles on it and has suffered no accidents. your listing shows that many other honda accords have the same defect. since this is a safety device i feel nhtsa should treat this seriously. *tr

Srs light is on constantly. paid dealer $100 to diagnose problem. i was told that both the left and right seat belt buckles need to be replaced at a cost of $600. i feel that this should be covered by the lifetime seatbelt warranty. *tr

In may of 2008 my 2000 honda accord lost power while driving and would not restart. all of the gas ran out from the front of the car. the computer board had gone out. the computer board was replaced by another mechanic and then was towed to the honda dealership to be reprogrammed. since then it has gone back and was diagnosed with misfires. the coil packs , plugs and wires, fuel injectors, egr valve all have been replaced. the car is still spitting and sputtering like it is running on 4 cylinders and it is a v6. i have researched and there seems to be alot of these problems. also the srs light stays on and you can turn the car off and remove the key without the car being in park. i never received any kind of recall from the dealerships on this recall. this car was bought new in 2000. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the srs (safety restraint system) lights illuminated in her vehicle and would not dim. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the passenger side seat belt switch was the cause of the failure. the manufacturer asked her to sign a release, but the contact refused. the parts for the repair were ordered in march of 2008 and when she called again in april 10, 2008, she was informed that the parts were on backorder. most recently, when she went to the dealer to check the status, she was informed that there was no record of the order. the current mileage was approximately 47,800 and failure mileage was 45,834. updated 06/16/08 *bf

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 honda accord. while driving 30 mph, the contact crashed into the driver side door of another vehicle. the driver sustained injuries to her left leg and side. a police report was filed. the seat belt did not restrain her from moving forward and the air bag failed to deploy. the dealer replaced the seat belt buckle in june of 2007 and diagnosed the vehicle due to the srs light illuminating. in august of 2002, the srs was replaced due to recall number 02v051000 (seat belts:front:buckle assembly). honda also sent an investigator to inspect the vehicle and concluded that they were not responsible for the failure. the current mileage was 51,250 and failure mileage was 51,184. the consumer stated was severely injured with hernia on right side and fractured pelvis on left major surgery to be performed. the consumer further stated seatbelt did not restrain nor did airbags deploy. updated 09/10/07 *tr

Tl*-the contact stated that while driving at a speed of 40 mph in the 2000 honda accord the seat belt latch came loose from the buckle . this happened while driving in snowy weather. the contact stated that this happened again on 2-27-07, and thought nhtsa should be aware of this. the failure mileage was 32950 , and the current mileage was 33000.*ak

Srs light came on in my 2000 honda accord ex. took my car to a honda dealership. they fixed the problem by replacing the driver's side seat belt (female side). the light has now been off for two weeks.

1) the srs light keeps coming on. 2) passenger side seat-belt occassionally unclips itself. *nm

Srs indication light illuminates after seat belt was replaced. *nm

The srs light continues to come on after being reset. the computer code is 9-4 our mechanic says there is a problem with the sensor in the passenger side seat belt sensor. *jb

Dt:the contact complained about the air bag sensor. the air bag sensor indicator light (srs) came on intermittently. the light came on every time the car was driven. the opds switch short circuited. the warranty on the switch was for only 36 months or 36,000 miles. the switch had not been repaired.*ak updated 11/29/2005 - the consumer also had problems with the seat belts since the vehicle was purchased. this problem was brought to the attention of the dealer but they claimed there was no problem. *nm

The srs light stays on in my 2000 honda accord. the honda dealership stated they reset the switch the first time i took my car in to be fixed. the light came back on a few days later. i took it back to the honda dealership a second time and they said a switch in the seat belt needed to be replaced. in the mean time, the dealership stated that the air bags in my car are not working because of the srs light being on. *nm

While driving, the srs light illuminated on three occasions. the part that was needed had not arrived at this time. *ak the consumers vehicle was not included in recall# 02v080000. there was a faulty switch in the left seat belt buckle. *sc *jb

The supplemental restraint system light illuminated on the consumers 2000 honda accord. *jb the seat belt/air bag mechanism. honda only reset the srs button, but would not honor the warranty specified by the vehicle's handbook. no faults were found. *sc it turned out that the seat belt was sending false information t the air bag mechanism *jb

Rear seat belts in my 2000 honda accord ex are too short for adults. it is very difficult to get them on without activating the automatic retraction mechanism, which makes them very uncomfortable. it often takes 4-6 attempts to get them on comfortably, and if you lean forward with the belt on, you have to start over.*ak

Seatbelt switch failed and turned on the "srs" dashboard indicator light and thus disables the airbag system the vehicle.

Rear seat belts often retract in the process of putting them on, making them so uncomfortable that passengers do not want to wear their seat belt. rear seat belts need to be longer, or need to be able to be pulled out further before going into retract mode, so they can comfortably be worn. *la

Consumer stated that the seat belt will not release for more room causing discomfort for the consumer while driving. dealer notified. ts

My 2000 honda accord gives me a problem with: 1st my passenger seat belt. it's extremly hard to fasten. 2nd my accord stalles every time i atempt to take off from a complete stop. also, there is a roaring bumping sound comming from around my exaust system.*ak

Vehicle air bag light remained illuminatedwhile driving. vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions, and they could not duplicate the problem. vehilce was taken back to the dealer for the third time, and they were informed that the problem was due to the seat belt buckle need to be replaced. please provide any further information. *la

Sirs:we have had two problems with our 2000 accord ex from time of purchase that our dealer, crown honda, has been unable to resolve. the first problem is the car has a stutter within the first mile driven when started. the second is a problem with the supplemental restraint system.*ak

Rear seat belts tighten up & will not extend. *ak

Seat belts on both sides of front have opened by themselves after seeming to be latched; first time was driver's side, i took it to local dealer who "cleaned" it even though i saw no dirt, seems to be working; but now the passenger side is doing the same thing, opening by itself during driving; again took it to local dealer, they offered to "clean" it again but i said no, i did not see any dirt and they told me that if someone had spilled a drink on it the seat belt would not work any more; i advised north american honda (tina at 1-800-999-1009, ext. 118088, case number n-012001-10-18-00512), they offered to replace seat belt with new one but of same design and i said no. to sum up, belts appear to be latched but are not, and i did not see any dirt or other barriers, and furthermore even if someone did actually spill a drink i cannot imagine that would cause a seatbelt (twice now) to fail to stay closed. i am convinced this design is not safe.*ak

Unless the front passenger seat is in the full-back position, and has been pushed hard to lock it into position, it is very difficult to get it to lock in position if the position is changed when a passenger enters the rear seat. the result is that after the front passenger is seated and the car begins to move, the seat will usually freely move forward or backward, unless the passenger has figured out how to move the seat fore-aft lever down into the locked position while gently moving the seat forward or back. normally i warn passengers of this problem, but none seem able to accomplish the locking of the seat in a midway fore-aft position without endangering the knees of the rear seat passenger. i have not taken the car into the dealer yet due to time constraints, and no one has been injured because i have warned them about the seat. still, this car should not have left the factory without the passenger seat lock working easily and predictably.

Because srs warning light did not go off after starting vehicle , it was taken to dealership. dealership believes that the problem is with the seat belts. vehicle has been at the dealership for a month waiting for part(s) to correct this problem. *ak the dealer installed temporary replacement but it failed within a month. *yh

Engine check light went on twice. took vehicle to dealer, and they said fuel filler: cap was not on properly. then, it was electrical system causing engine light to come on. a week later, srs light came on, indicating something wrong with airbag and seatbelts. *ak
