We have classified the 9 complaints from 1999 GMC Yukon about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
Complete brake failure when two metal lines ruptured causing a loss of hydraulic pressure in both circuits during a hard stop. abs had not activated. the braking took place at low speed when a car ahead stopped suddenly pedal sank to the floor, and the cable-activated parking brake was then used to avoid a collision and get the truck to the side of the road.
Brake rotor and pad kit purchased from rock auto was the wrong dimension and they refused to accept the improper fit, the following response from rock auto: :[xxx] i have received a reply from the manufacturer confirming that part number koe 1970, the rotors you received, are the correct rotors for a 1999 gmc yukon 5.7l v8 with 4wd and 6 lug wheels. the part number for these rotors should be ar8609xpr. if this is not the number stamped on the rotor you received, you may have received a mis-boxed part. if that is the case, please respond with the number that is stamped on the rotor you received. if this number matches the rotors you received, you can simply follow the return instructions i have emailed to you. in this case we would be unable to refund you the original shipping, but we will cover the return shipping in the form of a shipping label. when the manufacturer says that the fit is correct and the customer says it is not, it is our policy to split the shipping on the order. i apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your cooperation in this matter. this is a very dangerous condition where the aftermarket "brokers" like rock auto are selling parts that are the wrong size and then supporting the manufacturer (profiting). the thickness of the rotor plate pushed my road wheel out beyond full wheel lug nut engagement and no engagement of the road wheel center hole with the bearing hub. the only contact was the lug nuts. this is an extremely dangerous condition. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I went to pull my horse trailer forward to load horses and the brake pedal went to the floor. i was able to turn the vehicle uphill to get it to stop. a neighbor took the protective panel off of the front undercarriage and found brake fluid leaking from the tubing. the truck is scheduled to go to the repair shop tomorrow to fix this. *tr
(rear brake line rupture) my wife was on her way to work when she applied the brakes the brake warning light came on. the pedal became real soft as if the vehicle wasn't going to stop. after returning home, upon investigation the brake master cylinder was almost empty. i found brake fluid coming out of a badly corroded brake line just behind the fuel tank. this could have been a very bad situation. we are the second owners on this vehicle, purchased in 2001. we have always kept it maintained and clean, including car washes after snow storms to remove road salt and sand. this should not be happening on an 11 year old vehicle, thankfully this didn't result in an accident. i have also noticed the fuel lines have corrosion at ever mounting location. so, i guess these are going to fail as well some time in the future. *tr
Brake line failure due to corrosion of the lines,on my 1999 gmc yukon 1500 further inspection the entire undersection badly corroded. *tr

I have an 1999 gmc yukon, the vehicle was experiencing unwanted anti-lock brake activation. this would happen every time i was traveling at around 5-10 mph. i check on the internet before scheduling the repair and found a recall on this issue with the vehicle. when calling to make an appointment for repair i was notified that my vehicle would not be covered under the recall. nhtsa campaign id number is 05v379000. i have had my vehicle repaired and called gmc at 1-866-996-9463 and was told that i would have to pay for the repair myself. i"m very confused on how i have the exact issue as stated in the recall but because my vehicle id number does not appear on the recall list i must pay for the repair. i would like to be reimbursed by gmc for the repair. *tr

Abs has caused increased stopping distance on several occasions. both at low speed and high speed. during a stop from 60 mph to a stopped condition, abs caused braking to be reduced from about 45 mph down. minor rear end collision resulted. on previous occasions, abs has released braking when vehicle has gone over a bump in the pavement, causing increased stopping distance. this issue appears to be similar to campaign #05v379000. why has the 99 gmc been excluded from the recall? dealer has not been contacted - yet. *tr

Gm recall # 05068 for this safety issue. this recall pertains to certain pickup trucks and suv's between 1999 and 2002 and failing abs at slow speeds which causes the brakes to pulsate and to not work correctly. the recall covered most of the ne states (salt belt) and was caused by corrosion. the abs low speed sensor's would malfunction and cause the abs to activate and the vehicle would not stop (as if slipping). i own a 1999 gmc yukon with 70k miles and the abs sensors are shot. i called gm, they told me to contact a local dealer, when i did, the dealer said they would talk to the gm rep. final answer from gm ...since my vin was not part of the recall, they will do nothing. they want $300 to fix my 99 yukon, the same problem they would fix for free if it were a 1999 sierra k1500 truck or a 2000 yukon, both vehicles using the same abs sensors. my 1999 gmc yukon is a k1500 (as stated on the original sticker) and that vehicle is covered by the recall as well as the 2000 yukon. i have checked and the replacement sensors are the same for my 99 yukon as they are for the 99 k1500 and the 2000 yukon. gm dealer said to me, "well you truck is out of warranty". what does that have to do with a safety recall. i have names from the dealership, the local gm rep, gm customer service call #71-550013xxx. both gm and the dealership have refused to fix my vehicle under the gm recall, stating that since your vin is not listed in the recall, there is nothing we can do. autozone parts: sku # 550300 - left side sensor- 1999 yukon 4wd- same part # for 2000 yukon 4wd and 1999 k1500 1/2 ton 4wd sku # 550301 - right side sensor- 1999yukon 4wd- same part # for 2000 yukon 4wd and 1999 k1500 1/2 ton 4wd napa parts: sku # 530606 - left side sensor- 1999 yukon 4wd- same part # for 2000 yukon 4wd and 1999 k1500 1/2 ton 4wd sku # 530581 - right side sensor- 1999yukon 4wd- same ...

The abs system on my 1999 gmc yukon is exhibiting brake release at low speed. it can be described exactly as in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000. the gm dealer said this vehicle has the same brake hardware as the 2000 model yukon which has been recalled, however, my vehicle has not been recalled. the recall should be expanded to include those 1999 year yukons such as mine. i sometimes have to really push hard to get the vehicle stopped while the abs system is releasing brake pressure. i am familiar with abs design, since i was at one time the manager of the gm abs project and personally designed brake pressure release valves. i should not have to pay to have this safety defect corrected. *jb

I have a 1999 gmc yukon. your campaign 05v-379 regarding abs problems with gm trucks is exactly the problem we are experiencing. (ie extended stopping distances at low speed due to abs activation). in fact, the original acknowledgement to nhtsa and announcement from gm included my model year. however, when it was executed, the model years were changed to 2000-2002. i have the same safety problem and believe 1999 yukon should be included. *nm

The anti-lock brakes activate for no reason on dry pavement causing the pedal to go to the floor and create an exceptionally long stopping distance. this problem occurs almost every time i try to stop or during stopping at speeds less than 10 m.p.h. there is a current recall on g.m. models 00-02 but they said my 99-yukon doesn't qualify when its having the exact same symptoms-now what? *jb
I recently had my 1999 gmc yukon serviced for abs wheel sensor failure. remedy was replacement of both front wheel abs speed sensors. after the service, i was made aware of gm recall #05068 having to do with abs wheel sensors malfunctioning due to salt corrosion. my vehicle has been registered in new york state from 1999 to 2003. currently, it is registered in virginia. i was told by gm that my vehicle will not be recalled because it is not registered in a "salt belt state". i requested that my vehicle be included in this recall due to it being registered and used in new york most of its' in service time. my claim was denied because the vehicle is currently registered in virginia. i was further told by gm that if my vehicle was still registered in ny, the recall would be issued. i feel this recall should be issued to vehicles affected, not just vehicles that are currently located in a certain geographical location. *nm

I own a 1999 gmc yukon. i have been experiencing a problem with the brakes whereby the abs kicks in when the vehicle is traveling under 10 mph. i have had it to my mechanic and a gmc dealership. the behavior is identical to the gm recall 05v-379. the dealership claims that the design of my brakes is different and not covered by the recall although the symptoms are identical. i logged a consumer complaint with gm and they reply that my vehicle is not covered under the recall, although it was manufactured in the time frame noted in the recall and despite the fact that i live in the "salt-belt" region covered by the recall. the remedy is to replace the entire hub (both front wheels) according to the dealership. *jb

Antilock brakes control unit/module
1999 gmc yukon experienced anti- lock brake problems related to speed sensor corrosion. sensors were replaced by dealer in may 2005 pursuant to the ongoing investigation of the problem at that time. understanding that in the event of a recall, i would be reimbursed. initial recall correspondence by gm to nhtsa in august indicated that 1999 yukons were covered by recall. same correspondence was sent to dealers in august 2005 indicating coverage of 1999 yukons. recall correspondence from gmc to dealers and owners in october, 2005 now do not cover 1999 yukon's. i had these repairs made with the understanding that an investigation was underway, involving 1999 yukon's and with assurances from dealer that reimbursement would be made if recall was warranted. on 11/23/05 spoke with gm and dealer and both indicate that recall on this vehicle is not warranted and reimbursement is not authorized. *jb *nm
