My 1999 gmc yukon slt 4x4 5.7l vin[xxx] has the same unwanted low speed abs activation that is currently being recalled on 1999 and up gmc light trucks. i contacted two local dealers and they both told me that me vin was not recalled. i also called gm directly and was told the same thing. i think the scope of this recall needs to be expanded. i recently had to replace the rf wheel speed sensor and the problem has gone away. the abs/wheel speed sensor is not sold separately from the hub assembly. i paid $380.00 plus labor for an aftermarket hub assembly just to get an $80 sensor. i have the old sensor. *jb updated 07/17/2012 *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The anti- lock brakes at lower speeds feel like the vehicle wants to keep going, and pulsate when applied before stopping. this happens most of the time, at low speeds. there has been no complete failure at this time (i expect it know when to stop it). i tried having this fixed at a garage and they replaced the wheel baring because they said it contains the speed sensor (it didn't work). the abs kicks in when going forward and reverse
Dt*: the contact stated the abs engaged at low speeds of 10mph and below. the stopping distance was increased as a result. there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, concerning the abs system. the vehicle has the problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included because of the vin number. the vehicle was not taken to the dealership for inspection.

Had taken vehicle to dealer for brake service on front disc brakes due to wear on disc. work after 15000 miles had to be performed again due to disk wearing out. consumer believed that brakes were not heavy enough for vehicle. *ak disc warped causing vibrations and brake failure. the disc was turned a t 15k miles and was replaced at 28k. transmission does not hold on hills. front end was leaking due to front pinion seal failure .. *yh

While going down a small grade on wet road applied brakes before coming to a complete stop, and brakes locked up, causing vehicle to slide. this has happened also during dry conditions. *ak
When brakes are applied pedal becomes soft and goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. dealer has repaired and replaced various parts of the braking system three times, but problem still exists. *ak
Basically consumer was having a problem with abs braking system. when applying brake pedal, pedal stuck and ruined rotors. also, air conditioning went out three times due to a hole inside of vent area. *ak check engine light came on due to faulty harness. transmission slips on acceleration. the engine runs rough at idle. button on left front seat rattles. right front outer brake pad was worn. vehicle pulls left when applying brake. *yh
The metal hydraulic brake line running from the master cylinder to the passenger side front disc brake assembly ruptured, causing the vehicle to lose its braking power while the vehicle was being driven. this line crosses the front of the vehicle and then runs on top of the frame just under where the battery is located. after inspecting and finding the hole it was very apparent that battery acid/corrosion had dripped onto the line,, causing it to be eaten away. the battery is orginal equipment and maintanance free.

Brakes pull hard to left. salesman said it would "go away" after 1000 miles. it didn't. had serviced. still didn't fix. made it worse. front break pads are wearing also. your database said the same/sinilar problem exists with suburban. no mention of yukon. *ak
Complained to dealer of soft brakes! dealer replaced brake pads which are still available for inspection. no wear or chatter problems. brakes are so soft that they are dangerous. dealer has been oblivious to complaints. all are like this!!!!!!!*ak
While in the driveway and going forward noticed that when applying brakes steering wheel jerked to the left and heard a noise. contacted dealet who scheduled an appointment for vehicle to be serviced. presently, when driving vehicle and applying brakes, vehicle jerks to left. driver has to hold the steering wheel tight or else it will jump out of his hand. *ak
Abs locked up while avoiding hitting a deer. although i stomped/stayed and steered to the left, the vehicle proceeded forward, sliding into a hill and gently rolling over onto driver side. tires tracks on dirt road show that tires were turned and locked - pushing the dirt and sliding, whereas they should've pulsed. had the abs worked i'm sure accident would've been avoided. *ak
Vehicle experiencing extended stopping distance when braking. nlm
Master cylinder was replaced on two different occasions. vehicle has been taken to dealer on six different occasions for brake problems. dealer has provided repairs under warranty until last time. consumer has had another mechanic to inspect brakes, and mechanic found that rotors were wearing out unevenly, causing other parts to damage. *ak the brakes were poor and not safe. *yh
All four front brake pads was completely worn and damaged. the front rotors needed to be replaced and vehicle was under warranty but gmc insist that brakes were not part of warranty even though when i took vehicle into gmc dealership for inspection gmc dealer informed me that it was a known fact at gmc that the original brakes on the yukon only lasted 10,000 to 17,000 miles. this information is not known to the consumer even though it is widely documented within gmc. this is a known hazard that should be disclosed and fixed via a vehicle recall by gmc. instead gmc puts the expense of the repair on the consumer who is unfairly, and unreasonable caught off guards paying upwards of $35k for a new 1999 vehicle unaware that they will need to spend additional monies to replace the brakes every 10,000-17,000 miles. the dealer told me that the squeaking of my brakes is the only warning sign the vehicle gives the unsuspecting owner that the brakes have deteriorated. this condition is a safety hazard that will endanger lives and gmc should stand behind their vehicles and be held accountable for the brake repairs not the unsuspecting consumer who bought the vehicle in good faith and is now "stiffed with a bill" for costly repairs on a new vehicle 1999 that has by all standards has low mileage.
Vehicle was cut off by another vehicle. had to apply brakes (abs) quickly, which failed to work. vehicle then dove into concrete cover. upon impact, the dual air bags failed to deploy. the seat belt jerked hard on driver, causing bruises. gmc file number 99-153-17801. *ak
Braking system has had to be repaired/worked on 4 times since june of 1999. please provide any additional information/attachments.*ak
Dealer stated master cylinder was defective - master cylinder replaced. *ak
One of the four front brake pads was completely disintigrated and damaged. the front rotors needing to be replaced. gmc service center claims that the brakes are designed to break down within 20000 miles and this is normal. the brake pad failed completely and the front brakes would not operate properly or stop the vehicle. after lengthy discussion and many repeat calls the gmc representative went by the dealership and decided that it was indeed a faulty part. the claim by the service people was that gmc has changed out the brake pads to a softer compound and they will not last more than 20-25000 miles. the immediateness of the failure ( ie. the wear indicators did not work properly) may have been more dangerous if we would have been in a heavy traffic area.*ak
No summary listed for this vehicle. *ak
