Problems with 2014 GMC Terrain VISIBILITY/WIPER

On average, the 2014 GMC Terrain starts to “feel” problems with the VISIBILITY/WIPER and its various aspects after 76 294 miles.

Recently reported VISIBILITY/WIPER problems on 2014 GMC Terrain

As many other complaints filed here my wiper transmission/linkage has failed also but just week for the second time after having replaced it just last year with new replacement one. i was driving home from work and it was snowing partial city street and highway driving. last year when it failed it was raining on my way home on highway. needless to say i would like an explanation as to why this has failed for a second time and no manufacturing design upgrade has been done by gm to rectify this continual failure.

As several other people with this vehicle have reported recently, wipers stopped working while in a rainstorm. i tried changing the fuse since but no change. i can hear the motor running when switching to the on position but no response at all from either wipe.

Wipers stopped working in the middle of functioning properly on the expressway in the middle of a rain storm. checked fuse & relay - all have power. regulator broken.

While driving in heavy rain on city streets my wipers suddenly stopped working. i was able to stop without having a wreck and was close to a gmc dealership. i drove very slow with great difficulty to the dealer and had to leave the vehicle there. this is a saturday and will not hear from them until monday as to the repair.

We bought our terrain brand new in 2014, i have replaced the linkage once about 2 months ago and now the wipers do not work again. our transmission is going and we just got out of 5 year warranty. so disappointed and frustrated with this vehicle

Wipers for my gmc terrain 2014 stop working in middle of heavy rain in highway. managed to pull over and wait for rain to stop. you can hear motor running. there was a recall for other years but 2014 was not included.

Driving home on the highway this past week during a rain storm, my wiper blades suddenly slipped off the side of the windshield and would no longer move. they became stuck leaning over the driver's side window. i tried to push them back but they would not move. i could hear the motor but they were in a set position. i had to go to an automotive repair shop and had the wiper transmission replaced.u

While driving in a heavy downpour on i-71 in cleveland, ohio, my wipers stopped suddenly. i had to pull over on the side of the freeway for several hours until the rain stopped in order to continue on. this could have resulted in an accident and serious injuries or even death especially due to the location, rush hour traffic and speed (60mph). up to this point, i have had zero issues and indications that something was wrong. i was shook to the core and now have to pay to see what exactly was the cause but wanted to report it immediately due to other complaints. thank you.

While driving on the highway yesterday in heavy rain, my windshield wipers completely stopped working. i was in the passing lane, beside a semi, and suddenly i had almost zero visibility!!! i managed to get to the side of the road and stopped, but not without almost causing a wreck that would have involved several vehicles. while sitting there waiting for it to quit raining, i began to research what the issue could be. i was beyond upset to find out that this exact issue has already been reported to your agency more than 20 times! further, these defective wiper assemblies have already been recalled in canada because they pose a serious safety issue!!! it is absolutely ridiculous and negligent to not issue a recall for this issue to be corrected. i demand an explanation as to why it's apparently going to take someone actually getting killed because of this nonsense before any action is taken!?!?!?!

I was driving 70mph on highway during rain storm. the windshield wipers all of a sudden stopped working. i was nearly in an accident due to no visibility and made it to the berm of the highway. i had to sit there for over an hour until the storm passed. took to dealership next day and they said the wiper linkage transmission failed. i did research and gm is aware of this issue however only issued recall on 2013 models in the us. gm canada has issued recall on model years through 2016. gm is aware of this issue and are putting lives at risk. it makes no sense why they issue a recall in one country and not the other. something needs to be done asap.

I was diving down gratiot street in saginaw michigan, it was raining heavily and my windshield wiper decided to stop working completely. i lost all visibility and had pulled over immediately to avoid causing an accident. while sitting in my car waiting for the rain to stop i realize that my windshield wiper motor was still working, because i could hear it moving back and forth. but my wipers were not. i have read that there is a problem with some of the hard wear and a lot of prior years have been recalled. i've already had to replace the engine in this car, now only to find out that this car with it faulty equipment can potentially cause me my life... i will not recommend this vehicle to anyone.

The windshield wipers quit working while driving down the highway in a rain storm. wiper transmission failed. vehicle had to be abandoned overnight due to not being able to drive in the rain.

I was driving when the storm hit, my windshield wipers were working and just stopped. they haven't worked since. i can hear the motor run when i turn them on, but no movement of the wipers at all.

I was driving on the highway in the rain using my wipers when they stopped. they no longer work. they don't move at all.

Windshield wipers quit while driving 55 mph on expressway during heavy rainstorm. very limited visibility to get off the road and wait for rain to stop. after getting to a service shop i was told the windshield wiper transmission had failed. one of the transmission joints had popped open

I was driving on i-85 south at about 55 mph headed to work on april 19, 2019 during a heavy rain storm. i was driving in the hov peach lane when all of a sudden, my wiper blades stopped completely in an upright position causing complete blindness. i could not see any of the cars in front of me at all. since i was driving in the hov peach lane (left lane), i had no shoulder to pull over. my car was still partially on the interstate causing a traffic jam and people had to stop to go around me. i had to call the hero unit to help me get to the right side of the interstate. the rain was so heavy, i could not drive the vehicle. i had to get towed to my house. i never made it to work. i now find out this is an ongoing problem with the wiper unit and my safety is now compromised when there are heavy rains. this wiper unit should have been recalled years ago. at the very least, please recall before someone is killed or hurt.

We were driving on the highway at 70 mph in a heavy rain. the windshield wipers stopped working. we had to pull over quickly but do to very low visibility this was difficult. we waited until the rain stopped and drove home. upon inspection we determined that the linkage of the windshield wiper motor mechanism had broken.

While driving home on 1/19/2019 in rain my wipers quit working.. could hear wiper motor still running but wiper blades not moving. luckly i was close to home or i could have had a serious problem. i am assuming something broke as i have not gotten them repaired yet. planning on getting with dealer to get them fixed...

It happened again, in a snow storm my wipers suddenly quit working. last time it was the bushing or whatever had popped out, i assume it's the same this time. i was on my way to work in blizzard like conditions, poor his ability and dangerous road conditions.

28 dec 2018 my wife was driving home during rain storm on rt 80 west bound apx exit 12 nj drivers side wiper assembly / linkage fell apart . visibility was zero, was able to pull off of highway. local repair station verified linkage failed, was unable to repair due to lack of parts. we contacted dealer and have scheduled repair for 31 dec. have requested the dealer review failure and submit report of failure to gmc and nhtsa. situation was extremely dangerous, had no prior indication of pending failure, research after the failure has indicated reported increased issues of this type with this my as well as others my's.

While driving in a snow storm my wipers suddenly stopped working. they are moveable by hand, but do not engage at all when turned on. it sounds like motor engages, but wipers do not move.

Windshield wipers stopped working in the middle of a rainstorm in an upright position. making visibility very low. had to pull the car over and wait until the rain stopped. motor is still making noises but case seems to be similar or the same as the recall on the 2013 gmc terrains. possible corrosion of the linkage. accident was almost caused because of this incident.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. while the contact was driving in a rain storm, the front windshield wipers suddenly stopped working, which created a visibility hazard for the driver. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the wiper blades failed, but the wiper motor was still operable. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the local dealer (bruce lowery, 711 southwest rt. 820, fort worth, tx) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 78,000.

While driving on hwy 121 in a heavy rainstorm my wipers froze! the right wiper arms stopped at 12 o clock position right in front of my view while the left arm stopped off to my far left at approx 9 oclock position sticking out past my driver side mirror!!!i had to pull over to shoulder and manually place arms in flat (off) position. i called aaa to tow me to safety. i checked fuses, they were fine and wiper motor also running but arms will not move for front wipers at all. rear wiper still functioning.

Driving in residential area while heavy rain was present wipers stopped working suddenly and stopped up on windshield. i was unable to see and had to pull over until rain cleared up.

While driving vehicle in heavy rain wipers stopped working. since rain was so heavy it was not safe to drive without the wipers. after pulling over to side of road the vehicle was towed to nearest dealer where the wiper module was replaced due to failure.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. while driving approximately 55 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers stopped working without warning. the contact called rick hendrick chevrolet buick gmc at (804)-793-9305 (located at 12050 w broad st, richmond, va 23233) and was informed that the windshield wiper linkage was fractured and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

Wiper transmission ball socket failure. driving in heavy rain and it almost caused me to wreck. this has been recalled in canada but not in the usa. it is the same part and the terrains are all made in canada....ridiculous!!!1

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. while driving approximately 45 mph in heavy rain, the windshield wipers stopped operating. the contact had to pull over to the side of the road and wait until the rain stopped. the vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiper/washer transmission arm was fractured and needed replacement. the contact drove the vehicle to an unknown local chevrolet/gmc dealer located in thelma, texas, but it was not diagnosed because the vin was not included in a recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 47,000.

While driving 70 mph on the interstate in the middle of the pouring rain with the windshield wipers operating, both front wipers completely stopped working out of nowhere. luckily it was 5:45 am on my way to work with not many cars around. i threw on my hazards and pulled over until the rain cleared. i checked the fuse and it was fine, restarted my car to see if they would work, but no luck. come to find out there is a recall that was just issued but only for 2013 gmc terrains. this is a serious safety issue that needs to be recalled for other years of the terrain as well.

Driving out of state on a highway in a rain storm my wipers quit working. i was in the passing lane doing 70mph, had to pull off to the side of the highway ,when the rain let up i got the car to the dealership where they fixed it and charged me 450.00. they had said there was not a recall and i had a partial extended warranty .so when i got back from my trip i looked into the recall info and certian cars were recalled (not mine) for the same issue, canada recalled all years for this issue and my car was mfd by gm of canada. they told me my miles (67000) made it out of warranty this is not a serviceable part and i did not have my wipers on for 67000 miles! myself or my young son could of been seriously hurt or even killed and gm is giving me a run around about refunding me the 450.00 , i think i am being reasonable for my request? the part number for the part replaced is 84241847 wiper transmission module

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. the contact stated that while driving in the rain, the windshield wipers failed to function. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiper unit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. while driving approximately 40 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped operating. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the windshield wiper transmission assembly. also, while starting the vehicle, a loud noise was present coming from the exhaust. the independent mechanic diagnosed that the exhaust manifold was cracked. the exhaust manifold was replaced and the failure was remedied. the local dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was 70,000.
