Problems with 2014 GMC Terrain ENGINE

On average, the 2014 GMC Terrain starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 72 661 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2014 GMC Terrain

I have only had the vehicle since 11/2019. it twice has had the check engine light to come on. the first time it was in 12/2019. the check engine light was on for about a week. the auto start was not working, and the only issue i seen was that if it sat running for a while like for instances, warming up, it flooded and the engine would continue to run a few seconds after ignition key was taken out of the ignition. engine would stop after bubbling to a stop. then the check light went out and everything worked properly. but, on 2/1/2020, my check engine light came on again. my auto start is not working again. as long the check engine light is on, the vehicle will not auto start. the car is again flooding out after engine shut down. after ignition key is taken out of ignition. the engine will run for a few seconds and then bubble to a engine stop. wonder if other customers has had problems like this too? but, that is not normal for a vehicle to have a check engine like to come on and it interferes with the auto start and cause the vehicle to flood out like it does.

This car burns 3 quarts of oil between 5000 mile oil change intervals. it has done it since it was new. i just found out it is because of a faulty pcv system.01

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, oil pressure warning light illuminated. the contact veered to the shoulder of the road, got out the vehicle and discovered the oil flowing out the engine. aaa was contacted and towed the vehicle to the dealer reichard chevrolet: 575 arlington rd, brookville, oh 45309(937) 833-4011 where it was diagnosed that the engine main seal fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure informed the contact that the extended warranties expired but they would offer $100 certification for repairs. the failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

The car at 80k had its engine repaired under warranty for a bad deal which then ruined pistons and etc. at 155k it did the same and powered down on the side of the road with engine issues. i was driving on the road when this happened leaving me on a curve and the engine fuming and oil pouring out under neath

I have a 2014 gmc terrain with 102000 approximately. i received notice that i needed to change my oil. i went about 50 miles and started making a bubbly sound. when i went to get my oil changed, the mechanic said it was so long they couldn't get some on the dip stick. i left the mechanic with 100% of oil and just drove to san antonio and it is down to 98 %. i have a 2008 chevy trailblazer and have never had this problem.

The pcv system there's plugged up dumping oil into the intake and to the throttle body oils in the intake manifold crankcase too much pressure

Vehicle with only 75,00 miles, runs rough and stalls, went to dealer and they say due to low oil at some point the timing chain has stretched and needs replaced along with sensors and actuators. timing chain and associated parts replaced to the tune of $1715.00. i check the oil and the dealership has been changing it. this looks to be a factory defect. i have sent a letter to gm for resolution as well.

My car completely shut down while turning a corner (powered off). i almost hit a tree because i was unable to turn the steering wheel. once i applied the brake and put it into park, i was able to restart it with no apparent issue.

Was driving an car cut off an will not start was driving on a city sreet

As i was driving home after work the car just started making a noise and cut of and did not start had to tow to a gmc dealer that said it need a new engine i as driving on the city street

My 2014 gmc terrain has stalled on me 11 times. i cannot make any rhyme or reason out of it. it will stall after a 10 mile drive, it will stall after a 2 miles drive. the stalls seem to happen when i am coming from a stop, like when i stop to put my car in reverse to back into my garage. or when i stop at a light or stop sign. each time the car starts again, but rides really roughly. at stop signs and stop lights i feel the car start to tremor, so i put the car in neutral and cross my fingers. i need to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. this is just unsafe to drive a car like this. this started about 6 weeks ago, and now it happened 3 times this past weekend.

Excessive oil consumption- 2014 gmc terrain with 78,000 miles is 'consuming' approximately 1.5-2 quarts of oil with 1500 miles remaining before next oil change is due. this has occurred over the past 3 oil changes and seems to be tied into a 'technical service bulletin' issued to the gm dealerships by general motors.

Was driving on a state highway. upon taking off from a stoplight, a harsh noise came from the engine, followed by a loss of power and oil. car was towed to a shop, was told metal shavings are in the pan anf the engine would need replacing

Vehicle had stalled one morning in very cold weather, restarted and operated fine without issues for a couple of weeks. a week ago the engine light came on. didn't drive anywhere that day. next day tried to take it to my preferred shop but could only travel a short distance to a local shop. diagnostics showed issues with intake camshaft position, fuel pressure performance, idle speed low and fuel pressure regulator. had it towed to the dealer where it was purchased, further inspection showed several broken rocker arms, basically engine damage due to timing chain issue and/or oil consumption issue. vehicle has 147,000 miles and had variable valve timing solenoid replaced at 99,000 miles. had every scheduled oil change never exceeding manufacturer's recommendation of 7,500 miles between oil changes. car is basically dead with little value at this point. general motors refused to assist with this. *tr

2014 gmc terrain with 66,000 miles stalling out when slowing/stopping, low acceleration, loud engine. dealer says oil is low when it was just replaced 2 months (2,700 miles) ago. cannot determine why vehicle is consuming more oil than what gm allows.

My engine light came on as i was driving on the highway. felt like there was slight exhaust smell leaking in the cabin because had a headache driving home and driving to dealership. also, noticed black oil or wet soot inside my tailpipe after i parked it and checked it. stanley chevrolet told me that it was a bad timing chain beating against engine causing a gas smell and quoted me over 2 grand to repair.

My car engine light comes on and the car keeps cutting off when i stop or when i get ready to drive. i took my car to the mechanic and he is telling me is the camshaft that these cars have alot of complaints for this. my car has less than 52k miles. i don't drive my car a lot. this is horrible that this is happening so soon.

I've took it to car shop and they said it's burning oil. i have to get oil changes every 2500 miles, and it's low after 2 weeks. i've constantly adding oil and check it between oil changes. this is my first gmc and i'm not too happy about this issue i'm having. 104561 mileage and engine light just came on this week. i'm very scare and i can't afford another engine. it's ticking loud and makes noise when i accelerate. i only work less than 5 miles from home and this is just crazy.

My car is burning oil rapidly. it is causing issues to our cars engine. just had my oil changed 1500 miles ago and had to do it again. engine is very loud and mechanic says motor needs work done to it at a price of $1500.

Stopped at a light and car just stalled without warning. put the car on park and put my blinkers on. looked at dashboard and no check engine light on. turned car off and on then it started to drive but stalled 4 more times after i came to a full stop at a light. used the fixd app and it detected 1 problem code p0011 intake camshaft position sensor and the test turned the check engine light on and explained that variable valve/camshaft timing in the internal combustion engine control the intake and exhaust gases in and out of the gas combustion chamber. sensor should last as long as your car but can become damaged due to wear and tear but my car only has 93000 hwy miles and is only 4 yrs old.

Around 90,000 miles the engine began burning oil. i had to add oil every 2,000 miles. at 101,000 miles radiator failed. at 123,000 miles the engine completely failed. the mechanics at gm dealership could not explain it. they said it appeared that the engine was burning oil. i had to spend $7,000 to replace engine and additional parts that were damaged due to the engine failure. i have seen many reports about the engines for this model and year burning oil with no action or recall from gm. once more owners hit 100,000 miles, i believe that there will be more reports of this engine issue. hopefully gm will then respond and issue a recall.

Oil consumption testing began 6/12 a week later check engine light came out. brought my terrain back to gmc for them to tell me that the timing chain needs to be replaced due to the oil consumption problems. having several problems since such as jerking, and stalling that i did express to gmc over the past couple weeks, which is due to the excessive oil consumption. still waiting to hear from the gmc to get my suv fixed almost 40 plus days later

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning and the abs indicator remained illuminated. lance buick gmc in mansfield, massachusetts was made aware of the failure and scheduled a diagnostic appointment. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 16,900.

2014 gmc terrain. consumer writes in regards to engine failure. *ld the consumer stated that the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of oil. the consumer was advised the timing chain was not repaired to gm's standard regulations. the manufacturer was notified.*js

Plugged pvc orifice in intake manifold. pvc orifice was plugged due to cold weather and was filled with ice and other sludge. this caused pressure to build and blow the rear crankshaft main bearing seal. this caused the vehicle to lose all oil and subsequently stall. engine stall occurred while vehicle was being driven and without any warning.

I just hit 105k on my vehicle and the intake camshaft position timing is causing my suv to shut off while stopped. i was pulled halfway into a major highway when the light turned green i went to take off and the engine died. i tried to see if there was maybe a recall but i did not find one for my vin number. anyone else's check engine light coming on and throwing this code?

When vehicle is in hot humid climates. approx 80-100f. it idles weird. it will continuity fight itself. drops down to 700 rpm then back up to close 100 and repeats. even worse with eco mode turned on. bad programming it seems. sometimes it seems like it almost stalls.

For the past two months there has been a steady increase in carbon monoxide leak in the cabin of my vehicle. initially i thought it was something that will go away but for some months now the leak has been growing. i have to drive with my windows down just to be able to breathe in my vehicle. this vehicle have not had an accident or damage. i have kept a clean maintenance record of this vehicle. i am a disabled veteran with tbi and ptsd and the fumes from the carbon monoxide in my vehicle is causing my migraines to intensify. please help me resolve this issue as soon as possible before i die behind the wheel one day driving in my vehicle. as soon as i turn the vehicle on, the carbon monoxide fills the cabin up.

3 years old now and still getting around 10mpg and from the first day i got it in 2014 the drive shaft is rusted and was told by the dealer that nothing is wrong with the car. i also notice that when driving at night that the head lights are not made to see street name signs i have to use the high beams to see if i have the right street when looking for the place i have to go.

Wife was driving her vehicle, all service engine lights displayed, car de-accelerated and was able to limp into a business on a 45 mph road. took car to dealership, all service engine lights were on display, service technician acknowledged this. cannot duplicate problem, no problem found in diagnostic testing.

I was driving my terrain yesterday, and went to adjust my heater vent and when i bumped my ignition key, it went into the accessory position, shutting off the engine and power steering

Driver had stopped at stop sign on the exit ramp and as she began to accelerate to crossover to appropriate lane the car stalled in the middle of the road, reduced engine light came on, and check stability light lit. this was in a very dangerous location as the side road the driver was located was at the bottom of a hill, so oncoming traffic would not have been able to stop and it would have been a t-bone hit for the driver and head on for the oncoming vehicle. the car slowly (very, very slowly) moved forward enough to finally get across street and to a safe place. although no accidents or injuries occurred, it was by the grace of god that no traffic was coming over the hill. this had the potential and has the potential of being a deadly problem if it occurs again or if another vehicle has the same issue. immediately had tow truck pick up car and take to gmc dealership. i am awaiting the results from the dealership. my work requires a lot of travel and now i do not feel safe in this car with this issue (which after research today seems to happen a lot in gmc vehicles. ) *tr

Drove my 2014 6 cylinder gmc terrain with engine oil level filled for 4 cylinder before discovery of the dangerous oil level. gmc in detroit was notified in certified letter and local dealer was notified. neither responded in writing as i requested.

Tl*the contact owns a 2014 gmc terrain. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph and approaching a stop light, the vehicle revved up to 10,000 rpm's as the engine stalled without warning. the instrument panel and exterior lights failed. the failure recurred two times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 12,000. updated 5/19/15*cn

I was driving home after work around 7pm going about 45-50 mph and all of a sudden my car began slowing down and i could not accelerate. this is when i realized that my car had shut off while driving. also, my headlights turned off which i noticed immediately since it was dark outside, the computer system shut down, gas indicator went to e and the engine turned off. i was able to coast over to the right lane and as the car was slowing down my steering wheel began to lock up. once i was fully pulled over from the traffic, i braked and put the car into park. i waited a few minutes to catch my breath on what had just happened because this could have caused a bad accident if it were more traffic. since i was pulled over i thought i would try to restart my car. before i restarted it, i noticed that my key ignition was still in the on position so i turned it back to take the key out and then immediately placed it back in and turned it to successfully restart the car. this is the first time that this has happened in this car. i've had it since dec. 2013 and have a little over 15k miles. i will be contacting the gmc dealership regarding this issue since i did not see any recalls addressing this issue. *tr
