Vehicle has been experiencing intermittent issues with steering at low speeds. while trying to park, pull into traffic or make low speed turns, the steering will seize. no current recalls so issue reported to gmc on 8/13/13 for consideration. *tr
At random times, my car's steering becomes extremely stiff, sometimes to the point that i cannot make the turn. usually happens when turning into a parking space or making a tight turn at an intersection. i've noticed that it usually occurs when applying my brakes while turning. i've learned to make these turns without using the brakes. i had the fluid changed, but didn't help the problem. the service technician stated that this is a very expensive "fix", as he thinks it is the pump. shame on gm for not recalling this product. are they waiting for someone to get injured? how sad is that! i'm surprised to read of so many complaints that are very similar to mine. because of this... gm's turning a blind eye... i will most likely never again purchase a gm. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while coming to a stop, the vehicle became extremely difficult to steer. there was a clunking sound coming from the steering wheel whenever the contact was making a turn. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the failure was due to low power steering fluid. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 61,000 and the current mileage was 62,834.
When attempting to make a left turn at an intersection, the steering wheel became very difficult to turn and i had to use both hands to turn the wheel. during the month, there were several more instances with slow turns to the right and left. there is also a bumping noise (thump, thump) coming from somewhere underneath the steering wheel. it is not all the time but increasing as time goes on. the steering wheel is more becoming more difficult to turn and the incidents are increasing. i went to a chevorlet/gmc dealership this morning and was told it was either my power steering pump or the rack and pinion that would need to be replaced. they would have to have my vehicle for 2 days, one to test it to determine the exact nature of the problem and one day to fix it. the cost would be anywhere from $300-$600, depending on the cause. i have read several forums on the internet of acadia owners with the same issue but power steering problems going down interstates when attempting to exit onto an off ramp at a high rate of speed. *tr
It seems that everytime i am at a low speed <15mph (such as pulling into a parking space, turning at a four way stop, etc) the steering wheel feels like it wants to lock up and it takes all my strength to turn it to go the correct direction. it is dangerous. pulling in a straight line isn't bad, but backing out of a public parking space or something similar could be bad. i just noticed it every now and then sometime in august, however, within the last few weeks it has gotten significantly worse. fluids appear fine. it only has 63,000 miles on it. this is ridiculous. i have a 2010 gmc acadia fully loaded, all the awesome gadgets, paid out the wazoo for a car like this, i should not be having these problems. waiting on the dealer to tell me whats going on now, however, they are saying it could cost me over $1000 to fix. i have the 100,000 power train warranty on it but the other ran out at 60,000 miles. this is no way to take care of your consumer. i will not pay for that, especially after reading that this seems to be a common problem in year models 2009-2012. seems like a recall is in order! not the best way to keep your consumers. before this problem, i swore i would never have anything but an acadia, depending on this outcome, that decision could be drastically changed. and so i have read from several other consumers. *tr
When pulling onto the road or out of a parking lot at low speed, the steering fails. i have manhandle the steering wheel to make the car turn. on several occasions i have had to stop to avoid hitting on coming cars. *tr
While leaving a parking lot - tried to avoid a pole - was not able to turn steering wheel - it was as though i had no power steering - *tr
Power steering failure. at speeds between 0-40 mph the power steering goes out causing a very dangerous situation. typically at low speeds like turning into a parking spot, but it has occurred as high as 40 mph while going around a sharp turn on-ramp to access the freeway. even worse yet is when the power steering quits and you are man-handling the steering wheel and the power steering kicks back in causing you to swerve resulting in a very dangerous situation. no recall on this is crazy with the number of complaints filed by doing a simple internet search. what is gm thinking? yet, they will do a recall on windshield wipers that may break when a vehicle is jump started with ice buildup on the windshield. i know around here the acadia platform is the most popular selling vehicle that chevy/gmc sells. how about recalling something that could potentially kill passengers and other drivers? sure they will fix it if you are fortunate enough to have the failure while still under warranty. if not, the costs are very excessive!
The steering will quit working randomly when making turns almost causing accidents, gm does not feel this is a safety issue so they wont pay to have it fixed but yet they recalled it to fix a little plastic piece on a rear seat belt. at this point we can not afford to have it fixed so we must drive around in fear of losing steering control.someone should be held responsible since researching the problem there are alot of other people with the same problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the power steering fluid was leaking from the vehicle. the failure occurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, who informed that the failure was normal wear and tear on the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
Power steering goes out at low speeds while parking. recently, the steering has been going out while sharp turning at speeds of 25 to 30 mph. *js
I purchased vehicle used on june 1 2013 around 3 weeks later the vehicle started being hard to turn at turns and slow speeds the steering locks up.i took it back to dealership they ended up charging me 75.00 for power steering fluid now its getting a little out of control at first it was everynow n then now its about 5-7 times a day. i called gm taking it in on service on this matter and waiting to see what happens i barely drive the vehicle now cause of the problem to me its a safety issue and i found out im not the only one with this issue when will gmc realize this needs to be recalled i dont find it fair to have to pay out of pocket with such a known issue god forbid if me or my grandkids get hurt its scary to drive my truck now. *tt
While trying to park thegmc acadia 2010, the steering felt like it went out on me. my husband had told me previously that he had the same issue while trying to pull out into traffic. my incident only hurt my shoulder his incident almost caused a car crash. we have also had issues with the window on the driver's side not opening until you open another window. and now the latest issue, my husband had gotten off work and started the car and all the locks went up and down really fast and the dash lights flickered off and on, then, when he was on his way home he smelled plastic burning. if this was anybody else's car i would have said it was possessed but since we're paying for it there's a problem. does somebody have to die before they will address this problem? i filled this form out on my husband's phone. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the steering wheel seized and could not be turned. the contact applied excessive force to the steering wheel in order to maneuver the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnosis or repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 80,000. the vin was not available. *tr
The vehicle was becoming difficult to turn and could hear clicking noise when turning. the steering was becoming increasingly stiff. when i took it to the dealership they stated they the rubbing noise was from the steering gear, also power steering pressure very low causing the stiffness. diagnosis result need to replace the steering gear and the power steering pump and do a power steering flush and a 4 wheel alignment with an estimated repair cost of $2074.05. there appears to be multiple complaints regarding the same issues, is there any recall available to help with this repair? *tr
At low speeds the power steering system fails and you can't turn the vehicle. this happens pulling out into the street or into a parking spot. it has progressively gotten worse over the course of a year and the dealerships can't figure it out. they just want to change parts costing up to 2k and won't ensure me that it will be fixed. they are seeing it on many acadia's and enclave's and this vehicle needs to be recalled due to this before someone is injured or killed. i am worried about my wife and family being in a vehicle that won't turn. just reviewing the complaints on this website, i can't believe that the government has not done something yet. take a look at the gmc acadia blog or owners site and you will see lots more complaints exactly like this one. please do something. *tr
2010 gmc acadia. consumer writes in regards to vehicle steering issue. *smd the consumer stated the steering would become stiff and made turning difficult at low speeds and the engine would also race at a low steady speed without acceleration. the consumer's private mechanic, informed her, the steering gear was leaking and recommended she take the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer replaced the steering gear and front wheel drive shaft seal. the vehicle was returned to her. however, five days later, the consumer experienced the issue again, with the engine racing and the tight steering. the vehicle was taken to the dealer again, but the dealer was unable to replicate the problem. when she left the dealer, the engine raced again. she went back to the dealer, and left the vehicle. the mechanic diagnosed the problem as timing chain issue. the timing chain and tensioner were replaced, as well as the steering rack and pinion. between may 2013 and august 2013, the consumer continued to experience several sporadic incidents of the power steering failing or significantly tightening on low speeds. also, a noise and vibration developed in the right front side of the vehicle. the consumer was informed the motor mount was loose. *jb
As everyone else is complaining, power steering feels like it's out. especially noticed in parking lots when turning into a spot at a low speed and pulling out into traffic at intersections. i bought this $40k+ vehicle to haul my wife and 4 kids around and it's literally falling apart. serious issues with the steering, the gas gauge only works half of the time, the hot/cold buttons are wore down as you can't even tell what the '+' & '-' are anymore (and we had these replace once already under warranty) and the windshield fluid washer pump is out (and no, it's not just a fuse-already checked). all my kids are involved in sports and we put a lot of miles on per year. very worried about the steering with my family, trying not to drive it much as we're trying to get rid of it asap before the entire country knows that they're junk! it's out of warranty, and i can't even imagine how much it costs to repair it, so just trying to get rid of this headache of a vehicle! we are actually driving around an old 1999 subaru outback with almost 200k miles, and it's much more dependable than our $40k+ acadia. very disappointed! first question is, with all the complaints, why hasn't it been recalled yet? i'm guessing there has to be so many fatalities before a recall is appointed?? second question, do the makers of the gmc acadia sleep well at night knowing their product is very dangerous and it's just a matter of time before people start getting killed? *tr
Intermittent loss of power steering while attempting a turn while braking. this happened 1 to 4 times per days for several weeks before bring the car in for diagnosis and repair. this required a replacement of the power steering pump, gear, and fluid. prior to experiencing these problems there was constant audible noise whenever the steering wheel was turned. when the power steering failed it was difficult to successfully complete the turn, though i never had any collisions. *tr
First happened at 75000 with engine and electrical system shut down. doors don't work and radio/bluetooth works when it wants too. exposed wires got fixed because of moisture. steering power failure at low speed and emergency maneuvers. the dealerships cant fix it although they know its the steering pump. at 93000 a systemic failure of electrical systems again. new dealer fixed supposedly the wires again, still exposed. the car electrical does not perform over 76 degrees outside temperature. power steering is a problem and getting worse. finding that there are more problems with power steering from 2013 and lower models. *tr
Power steering goes in and out at low speeds. *tr
When i was making a right hand turn at a green light the car acted like i lost my power steering. i really had to fight the wheel so i didn't hit another car. this happens randomly about twice a month. sometimes it happens when i make a left turn. sometimes it happens when pulling into a parking spot. i have had so many close calls of hitting other cars that i try not to drive it unless absolutely necessary. *tr
Could hear a whirring sound when driving at low speeds and or when turning the steering wheel in either direction. took the vehicle to our local dealership and was told the power steering pump and rack were both leaking and the rack was cracked. the repair was estimated to cost approx. $1,800 for a vehicle that is less than three years old. if we allowed the problem to persist, the power steering could have gone out at any time. amazing that these parts haven't been recalled so that gmc customers wouldn't have to pay to replace defective parts. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving various speeds and attempting to make a turn, there was a sudden loss of power steering. the malfunction occurred for a brief moment. the failure occurred intermittently and on numerous occasions. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
Starting slowly and intermittently when making a hard turn to the left from a standing start, power steering lost. this was particularly dangerous when turning into or across oncoming traffic as turning radius truncated and correction ("recovery") became very difficult. subsequently frequency of occurrence increased and included hard turns to the right. checked for tsb/recall. tsb(technical service bulletin) found. followed recommendation to flush and exchange change power steering fluid. this resulted in correction for a short period of time after which steering intermittently lost with very sluggish steering. flushed and exchanged power steering fluid for a second time and filled to 1/4 inch above tank full line as some recommended on a tsb website. unfortunately the power steering failure returned, again intermittently but with increase frequency. there were several near accidents because of the steering fail. manufacturer/ dealership contacted. the only advice was follow the tsb instructions. because in my mind and based on my experience with the intermittent and unpredictable power steering failures that have occurred a complete overhaul of the power steering system, as well as rack & pinions as directed in the tsb will be undertaken in three days. in my opinion having done some research regarding this problem which apparently has occurred in a number of acadia as well as similar models in the gm family which i understand have had recalls, the acadia power steering issue deserves immediate nhtsb investigation. *tr
While making a hard right turn front tires very difficult to turn very resistant. front tires felt like being drug across the pavement. problem became more frequent in both turning directions. took it to dealership to find out it is a common problem with this vehicle (others complaining of this online). steering racket cracked and fluid leaking on right internal in bellows. "internal problem with steering gear". i was told this wasn't recalled because it is not a safety issue, basically some one has to die! excuse me, i drive on the country's most dangerous highway, us 50 over echo summit at least once/twice per month. what if this failed? how is a steering problem not a safety issue? i took the suv in before we were killed! *tr
The vehicle intermittently loses power steering which makes turning the vehicle very difficult. this initially began happening at very low speeds like when turning into a parking space or entering/exiting our garage. lately it's begun to occur at higher speeds such as when making turns on roadways. this loss of power steering at higher speeds is a much more dangerous situation as it increases the probability of a crash. this particular issue appears to be a common complaint amongst acadia owners. *tr
When trying to turn corners it's almost as if the power steering has gone out. pulling into a crowded parking lot is scary because i never know if my car is going to turn enough to fit into the parking place. i have come close to hitting other cars when making turns onto smaller streets. this started in 2012 and i took my car to classic buick gmc, in arlington texas they stated they could not recreate the problem so nothing was done. now a year later it is bad enough that they have been able to recreate the problem and wanted to charge me 1714.13 to fix it. i called gmc customer service and they were able to get the dealer down to 850.00 to fix it. after reading all of these complaints about the same issue i am very curious as to why no recall has been issued. i have another call into gmc. *tr
Power steering has been repaired twice, 1st time under warranty second out of pocket cost this past january (80k miles on vehicle) brought in vehicle recently and needed to have power steering fluid changed since it was "burnt". clearly this has to be a manufacturer defect
My 2010 acadia has periodic loss of power steering, mostly at low speeds, when backing up, parking, turning, etc. this happens sporadically, and at times can be very dangerous. i have been advised that my car is not under warranty, and there are no recalls. *tr
The steering makes an awful noise when turning. this is usually at low speeds. this same problem was corrected while it was under warranty at the dealership. however, now i am past the mileage warranty and nothing will be done. i have contacted gmc several times and there were no suggestions. this is very disappointing seeing that it has been less than a year since the part was replaced under warranty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while exiting the highway, the power steering assist failed without warning. the vehicle was never taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was notified, who advised the contact that the vehicle should be taken to the dealer for inspection. the failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 60,200.
2010 acadia transmission and traction control safety problems. while driving 70mph on the highway, the traction control system alarm came on in addition to a flashing stability control and abs warning lights. the rear passenger wheel locked up, the transmission downshifted into 3rd gear causing the vehicle to veer into the right lane. additionally, we have been having power steering pum problems with the vehicle which made the vehicle difficult to control in this circumstance. fortunately, there was no other vehicle in the right lane and maanged to pul the vehile off the road. i had my family in the vehile at the time which made everyone very scared for their safety. the vehicle was turned off and restarted which erased the abs and traction control warnings, but the engine check light remained on and was unable to keep the transmission in drive. the dealer replaced some ecms, but could not fix the power steering issue. three weeks later, the transimission started shifting hard and after 2 visits to the dealer is not being ivestigated for another ecm failure. the electric systems and power steering issues make this is a very unsafe vehicle. *tt
Early part of june, 2014, noticed at very isolated times steering was hard while making very low speed turns. this happened very infrequently during very low speeds such as parking or turning into a small spaces. the intervals of this problem began to increase in july, but only at low speeds. towards the end of july the steering became harder at turning and the speed became higher at which the event occurred. beginning of august it became a safety concern when turning corners the power steering would go out and control of the vehicle became difficult. i called the dealer and made an appointment to diagnose the problem. the dealer found the power steering pump and rack of the steering to have slow leaks. the solution was to replace the parts. fortunately i had purchased an extended warranty as the cost of labor and parts came to over $1,300. because i have commercial driving experience, i was able to deal with the loss of steering in what could have resulted loss of control of the vehicle. in my opinion, this is a safety concern. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. while driving approximately 60 mph the steering wheel locked and the would not turn to the left or right. the contact applied excessive force to the steering wheel in order to maneuver the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians replaced the steering pump. the failure occurred three times and was taken to the dealer. the technicians replaced the steering pump, pipe and gaskets. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics a third time. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
I purchased a new acadia in 2010 , i have had problems with the front end since it was new it has gone back to the dealer many times for front end noises and not handling properly , i did bring it to the dealer complaining that the car was not steering properly they did do something to repair it but now the warranty is expired and i was told that the steering rack is leaking and needs to be replaced at a cost of over 1800.00. it is noted if you look into it that this front end and steering problem is wide spread , their are cases of people spending thousands of dollars on repairs but more importantly loosing power steering and could hardly control the car . i would like to know what it takes for you to issue a recall ?? people being in accidents or injured ? this is well documented with other owners and with today's technology i am sure you can look into gmc's repair and complaint records and you will see that this is a serious problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia 2wd. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to steer properly when driving various speeds. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 300 and the current mileage was 15,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. while driving approximately 25 mph, the contact slightly turned the steering wheel and there was an abrupt forceful response. the failure occurred while driving at any speed. when turning the steering wheel, excessive force was required to prevent the vehicle from wandering off the road or into another lane. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on three different occasions for the same failure. the technician stated that the vehicle performed within factory specifications. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 350. updated 03/14/12*lj the consumer stated while driving, the vehicle would drift in either direction. when he tried to correct it, the vehicle would dive in the opposite direction.
I bought my gmc acadia in december of 2009. a few days in i noticed a whirring sound in turning. i was told by the dealership that it was normal, a design flaw with brushes in the steering column. june 20110 entire electrical motherboard failed, six months later the water pump failed. brought the car in 3 times for airbag lights. i sensor was replaced then i was told to just "keep something heavy in the seat". for eight months abs and brake light chimed with nothing wrong. i reported that the air conditioner was not cooling only to be told it was all good, of course until the warranty was out then a repair of $600. now that so called design flaw and whirring noise has turned into power steering failure an leak in power steering rack , !000 repair not covered by the recall of power steering pump. unreal. what a bunch of crooks. the worst part is the gmc dealers pretend they know nothing about any issues and accept responsibility for nothing all. i am sure it is a protocol to delay and major diagnosis until a warranty is expired. *tr
