Problems with 2010 GMC Acadia ENGINE

On average, the 2010 GMC Acadia starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 102 479 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. while driving, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number:[xxx]. the failure mileage was approximately 168,000. *mp ('parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*jb

Timing chain issues. failed tensioner. 114,00 miles

The vehicle started with a miss in the engine and took it to our local gmc dealership and they told us it would need a new engine because of the timing belt and being out of time, said it would be $5000. so we wanted a second opinion and had it towed to my mechanic which is a ase certified mechanic and he said the same thing but he said he could just replace the timing belt and get it going and he replaced it but its still out of time and it cost $3250. the gm dealership knew of the problem and said it was a common problem with them and that the 2009 model was covered under the engine recall but not 2010 or newer even though they know about it. had to end up buying another vehicle and still have the other one parked in the shed and cant drive it.

I own a 2010 gmc acadia. the code that was being thrown was p0008. i had to have the chains and actuators replaced in the engine. after paying for that the check engine light is back on again, so the vehicle is back at the shop again. there is a service bulletin out for 2007-2012 however, the extended warranty is only for 2007-2009. this is a known issue that gmc needs to take care of. seems to me that the lemon law may apply as i am seeing more and more people having this same issue. maybe we should contact an attorney to get gmc to take care of this issue.

My acadia is throwing p0008 code. it began having power issues not being able to accelerate and pulling up the smallest hills. all of this started going 70mph down the interstate. not a good spot or time to decelerate. also started having a very rough idle. it is at a gmc dealer now and am being told timing chain will have to be replaced. was told this is a known problem and should report it since it is the same problem on the 2009 and those were covered under warranty }:(

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to hendrick buick gmc cary (115 team hendrick way, cary, nc 27511, (919) 234-7784) where it was diagnosed that the timing belt needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 53,366.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated. the contact was able to safely maneuver the vehicle over to the shoulder without power steering or braking ability. also, the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 130,000. the vin was unknown.

Check engine light is on. vehicle is showing a p0008 code with 92,000 miles this is a crankshaft misalignment that i was told means the timing chain will need to be replaced. this is apparently a widespread issue amongst gmc acadia owners.

My timing chain was replaced under warranty 4 year and 50,000 miles ago. now i am having to replace it again. i contact gmc about recall10287 premature chain wear for reprogramming of the engine control module. i was told this does not apply to my year and there was no part listed because it just a general statement. not sure where to go from here. here is my case # for gmc 8-4704107640. i am still awaiting the part information from them.

This has happened about ten times now all within the past 3-4 months. i will be driving and go to make a turn and the steering wheel locks up and the engine dies. the brakes still work so i am able to stop the car, turn they key off and restart it. it had happened to me once on the highway and the rest of the times have been stop and go turns in the city but once was while turning left onto on cmong traffic and my car died in the middle of it. i took it to 3 different auto places and all told me they couldn't find the problem. i then researched this and found several other people having this same problem. i contacted them and they set me up with a dealership to get it fixed. gmc said if it was under 150,000 miles they would pay for it and if it was over then i would still qualify for a payment assistance program. however a day after dropping off my car to get fixed the dealership called me and said they don't know how to fix my car and to come get it out of their parking lot. we told gmc about this and they said it's not there problem. i'm at a loss at this point as no one seems to be able to fix the car and it is a death trap for me and my family. i'm also not just going to sell to the car to somebody like the dealership advised me to do because 'they wouldn't want their son or daughter driving that thing' (even though they seem perfectly fine to have me drive it off their lot asap and not be their problem anymore) because i wouldnt feel right selling a car to someone knowing it could kill them through no fault of their own. i don't know what to do here. the right thing to do would be to put that car in the junkyard and buy a new one but i don't have the cash. would like somebody to tell me how to fix this.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. while driving at an unknown speed, the service engine soon warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to nye buick gmc (located at 1421 genesee st, oneida, ny 13421, (315) 363-2200) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000. *tt consumer stated timing chains were replaced.*jb

The timing chain needs to be replaced on the 2010, which is the same issue gmc had with the 2009s, however, the 2010 isn't covered, but the 2009 was. i've read that gmc knows that there is an issue, but they just aren't covering it yet.

Timing chain needs to be replaces and isn't covered although it's the same parts as the 2009 model that is covered by the extended warranty. gmc is aware of this ongoing issue and should cover it

I was driving the car on the highway and smoke started coming out of the engine. later it was determined that the engined died - there was never ever warning lights or warning that there was trouble with the car. it is a 3.6l sidi vg engine. it was very unfortunate as we haven't even owned the car for a year before it was completely dead. the cost was way too high too fix so we ended up giving it to a salvage place and bought a 2009 gmc acadia. not even a year into that car and it also needs a new engine. same engine, a 3.6l sidi v6 engine. our auto place said they are having a hard time finding that engine because many people need that engine for the exact same problem. can not be a coincidence. i have contacted gmc and they don't care.

Owned the car for about a year with a 5 year, $20,000 loan attached to it. the car randomly started smoking and all kinds of warning lights went off on the way back from the store (about a mile away). i immediately pulled over and walked home, went back after a couple hours to let it cool down and it wouldn't start. i had it towed to the repair shop and it was deemed my car with around 80,000 miles on it had a blown engine due to something with belt (same issue 2009 model was recalled for) and it was going to cost out of my own pocket $7500 to replace it with a used engine with no guarantee that the replacement engine won't have the exact same issue. in the 3 weeks it took us to decide on if it was even possibly to come up with that much money, engine prices had rose another $500 because they are in such hot demand. ended up having to let the bank repo it, ruining my credit, no vehicle to take my newborn twins to their doctor appointments, or anyway to get to work. gmc needs to be held accountable for not promptly responding to this defect instead of turning a blind eye. i cannot wait for the day a class action suit is filed.

At 60,000.00 thousand miles my timing chains needed replaced (just like the 2009 which has a recall) then at 79,000 miles my wave plate cracked on my transmission (which there is a recall on the 2009 model for the exact same thing) my car was a early 2010 model and it looks like the 2009 issues are problems on my car. i think it's insane that gm can't stand behind their work better than this. the recall's should cover the 2010 models that were manufactured with 2009 parts!!!

Timing chain needed replacement due to stretch and check engine light at 137,882 which cost $2,049. this issue was covered under special warranty for 2007-2009 model years, but the 2010 is not covered. my understanding of gmc's fix is that nothing changed with the timing chain and the oil system life was lowered as to when an oil change was recommended by the vehicle (more frequent oil changes). i have completed all scheduled oil changes based on the automated prompt from the vehicle and still had to complete this costly repair out of pocket. i would like to see this known issue also covered by the special warranty on newer vehicles and be reimbursed for my expenses.

Car has been serviced regularly. engine was running smooth. drove approximately 30 miles on hwy to work got off on city street and car started shaking bad. pulled over into parking spot and engine cut off. wouldn't restart. called towing to our repairshop. the first cylinder spark plug was bent resulting in major engine failure due to timing belt stretch. need a new engine and found that this is big problem with gmc engines. bought the car less than a year ago and it currently has 138k miles. 7k to replace engine including labor. wow mother of 3 kids and i'm still paying big payment for the car and insurance.. so many complaints about this issue i just found out with gmc covering the issue up and not being responsible

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. the contact was in the process of trading in the vehicle. while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact had the vehicle towed. a certified mechanic diagnosed that the motor burned an excessive amount of oil, which caused the failure. the vehicle was inoperable. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the repair was not covered. the approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

While i was driving tonight my vehicle shut off in mid turn causing loss of power steering. where this happened is a very busy intersection. i had to pull over and when i put the car in park and restarted it came on for a second then shut off again. then was able to get it running again. i had my wife and 6 month old daughter in the car and this could have been a very different outcome. i have read many of complaints online about this same problem in these vehicles. i really feel that gm needs to take a serious look at this issue before something major happens.

Gmc 2010 acadia.. 96,000 miles whenengine light with code p0008 indicating stretched timing chains. mechanic aware of extended warranty on 2007-2009 vehicles. called gmc, they said 2010 not covered. same engine as 2009 and not covered. failed inspection in nh due to code...$2300 in repairs needed. filed complaint with gmc...plan to print extensive complaints found here and heading to dealership where i bought it.

Timing chains stretch. very common issue on this and other gm vehicles with 3.6l engine. just purchased my vehicle and it's at the dealer for a $2600 repaor on this problem. can happen at any mileage and without warning other than check engine light. timing chains stretch causing engine to be out of sync and eventually engine damage/failure while driving. minimum cost of repair is $2500+ as engine has to be removed to do the repair. gm has knowledge of the problem and even issued extended special warranties to cover the problem on 2007-2009 models only even though 2010 and newer models have same problem with same engine. any internet search will yield hundreds of other owners with same issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. while driving 45 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the timing chain and crankshaft needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the vin was invalid. the failure mileage was 84,823.

I'm filing a complaint about my model year 2010 gmc acadia. my check engine light has come on at 96,000. the code is p0008. this code points to the timing chain. this is a known issue with gmc acadia's and is the same issue that caused gmc to extend their powertrain warranty on 2009 model acadia's to 120,000 mile or 10 years. gmc is not offering to extend my warranty to 120,000 miles or 10 years even though i'm experiencing the same problem that caused them to extend 2009 model cars. my car was manufactured in oct 2009.

Check engine light came on and i took the vehicle to the local dealership. the service representative informed me this was a stretched timing chain issue - a common issue with gmc acadias. upon searching the internet for error code p0008 it pulls up loads of information regarding the acadia timing chain issue. in fact, model years 2007 through 2009 had an extended warranty issued for them up to 120,000 miles for this exact same issue. my vehicle is a 2010 and is experiencing the same issue that was recalled, and my vehicle was most likely manufactured during the time they were experiencing timing chain issues. my timing chain failed at only 71,000 miles, well below the recommended timeline. i called gmc to file a claim and see if they would cover this under some warranty. i was told by the representative that they were aware of these problems but since i purchased the vehicle used, there was nothing they would do for me. i have performed all maintenance on the vehicle at the recommended intervals and still experienced a failure. this was an extremely expensive fix that was unacceptable since it should not have happened in the first place. gmc should stand by their products when they are aware of issues like this.

Without any warning, car died while driving. timing chain apparently stretched after only 39,000 miles. this is the second timing chain i have to replace. gmc has extended the warranty for several models to 120,000 but not my year!

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart on the third attempt; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the timing chain fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

My wife's gmc acadia shut down while driving down expressway and lost all power and threw a cel. the diagnosis from the dealer mechanics was a stretched timing chain. i was told this is common and a scheduled maintenance part but nowhere in my manual does it state this. also i contacted gm corporate to see if i could get help it being a safety issue for the shut down and was told it was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do. my vehicle has approximately 149,000 miles now i have to pay over $2000 to fix a known issue but the real problem was the unexpected shutdown and loss of control in the middle of rush hour traffic in a rain storm. fortunately my wife's quick thinking got her to safety but could have been much worse if she would have lost power in the middle of a busy intersection or an on ramp she could have been severely injured. i would like to see these problems resolved. *tr

Check engine light: timing chains stretched. check engine light came on. i took the vehicle to the local dealership where i have service performed. the service representative informed me this was a stretched timing chain issue - a common issue with gmc acadias. i was informed that if/when it "breaks", i can lose power to the vehicle while driving. i asked another repair center for a second opinion and while informing the service technician of having a timing chain problem on my vehicle (without providing make/model of vehicle), the service technician guessed that i had a gmc acadia as this was a common problem with them. i checked my warranties as i currently have 103,000 miles. none of my active warranties cover it. i called gmc directly and was informed by the customer service representative that they are aware this is an issue but it has not reached a level to which gmc will extend any type of special coverage for vehicles when this fails. since this is an extremely expensive fix, i am stuck with deciding if i should go in debt fixing a 6 year old vehicle or risking it and driving it until it fails, potentially leaving myself at risk for an accident. this is ridiculous that it is a common issue that was addressed in 2007 and 2009 models but hasn't been addressed yet for the 2010 model.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 167,000.

Have hade it in shop several time but has not been fixed . they keep saying it somethings else ever time. removed remote started didn't help. took radio fuse out didn't help . car will not start when it sits for a day or two something is draining the battery when it sits. an the dealer always say its somethings else its somethings. i'm tired of dealing with these people about my gmc acadia.. the dvds player went out warranty won't cover it radio won't turn off warranty won't cover it warranty didn't cover removing the remote starter. will not buy another gmc at all . would like to know where i can sue the company an gmc warranty place. if anyone can help me please let me know who to contact to sue the company. ms skeens. had the problem for a 1 1/2 now

Just purchased a 2010 gmc acadia. 130,000 miles and has stretched timing chains. p0008 comes up when attached to reader. sound like this has been a problem on the 3.6 motor for years and gm still has not fixed the issues. thought with the 2010 and newer i would of been safe, guess i should have dug a bit deeper while researching my new purchase.

Having the same check engine light/timing chain stretch issue. after researching i found that these models oil change cycle were to be set at 3000 miles. i also know that this is an issue on models through at least 2012 but gm still has not issued a recall on these models.

At 80,000 miles, after pulling out of parking, when i applied brakes the car started making rumbling noise from the engine and lurched forward despite pressing on brakes to stop. pulled into a parking spot, while continuing to fight lurching of vehicle and turned car off to check engine oil, transmission oil, and power steering oil levels. all were fine. when attempted restart of vehicle, loud rumbling noise from engine, check engine light flickered and the car failed to start. required a tow home from 100 miles away and $400. hooked up obd, and received the following faults p0008, p0303, p0305, p0017, p0300, p0301. after researching on-line, common faults for timing chain issue estimate $3-4 thousand repair. also, found 2007-2009 acadia received extended warranty for same issue. however, 2010 not covered despite finding approximately 15 identical 2010 gmc acadia on nhtsa site. i will be calling dealership first workday, however expect to be told timing chain issue based on codes and that gmc will not cover the repair since i am outside of the 5 year warranty, despite less than their 100,000 mile coverage.

2010 gmc acadia possible timing chain stretch issue. purchased vehicle used 2 yrs ago now have 96k miles on it. yesterday car wouldn't start after being drive 10 minutes earlier. pulled codes and all pointed to the 1,3, and 5 cylinder ignition issue. cleared codes and seemed to be fine, drove 20 miles with deep resonate sound at cruise that went away when accelerating and decelerating. drive back home sound remained the same and check engine light came back on. pulled codes once again and different set came up with p0008, p0016, and p0017 signifying timing issues which makes me believe timing chain stretch. i think i might be in for an expensive fix but most i want this reported to manufacturer to maybe be the last straw to include my year vehicle recall. any info would be appreciated.

Having the same check engine light/timing chain stretch issue. after researching i found that these models oil change cycle were to be set at 3000 miles. ours has been 5000 miles since we bought it brand new in march 2010. i also know that this is an issue on models through at least 2012 but gm still has not extended the warranty to the same 10 years/120,000 miles as the 2007-2009 models. our acadia has only 87,000 miles. this is a $3000 fix for an issue that gm knows is a problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. when the heat or air conditioning system was activated, a fuel odor emitted inside the vehicle. the dealer diagnosed that the hvac system failed and needed a filter installed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,125.

While driving the check engine light came on. the dealership read the code and diagnosed that the timing chains needed to be replaced. unsafe condition that can cause the engine to stop running while being driven at highway speeds. my research showed gm extended warranty and covers costs for timing chain replacement on the 3.6 engines for the 2007-2009 model years, but not the 2010. the problem with the 2007-2009 models were the car's computer alerting the engine oil needed to be changed too late and dirty oil was restricted from going to lubricate the timing chains and resulted in the timing chains stretching and wearing prematurely. i have contacted gm and they will not provide any coverage for the 2010 models. same problem in the 2007-2009 models is covered.

On 9 apr 2016 on the way to a church function, our 2010 acadia told us it was reducing engine power and started missing and smoking a little. thankfully we were just blocks from the house, so we turned around and limped it home. later i moved it from the driveway to the street. this time, while still missing, the vehicle put out a dense fog of white smoke that smelled of gasoline. thankfully no one lite a match. i used my obd ii code reader to get failure codes p0087 and p0089 indicating low fuel rail pressure and injector issues. subsequent research on-line led me to tsb pip4924d (nhtsa# 100419330). i now am of the opinion that the issue is likely a fuel injector that is stuck open likely due to a fuel injector control line that is shorting to ground due to bad manufacturer design or improper maintenance by dealers fixing other issues. i view this issue as a huge safety problem. i can think of all sorts of scenarios where this could cause danger to the vehicle driver and passengers. a little about me ... i've been working on cars for the last 48 years and hold a bs in electrical engineering. anyone is welcome to contact me at [xxx]. (unrelated ... i was also disappointed to learn from one dealer when fixing an a/c issue that my brake booster drum was contaminated with brake fluid due to a bad seal i guess. that fix was costly and likely should have been on the manufacturer also). information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

2010 gmc acadia with check engine light indicating a timing chain problem. recall exists from gmc for this problem for earlier model years but does not include 2010 models. the repair requires the engine and transmission to be pulled from the vehicle and extensive disassembly. repair cost is over $3,000. numerous reports of this defect have been reported and gmc refuses to expand it's recall warranty to include 2010 models.

The cam shaft engine correlation code indicated stretched timing and chain guides. extended warrantees up to 10 years and 120,000 miles have been offered for 2007 and 2009 gmc acadias with the same problem. to date they have not been offered for the 2010 model even though it's the same issue.

Just bought my arcadia july 2015 back in december the engine came on had it checked out and error code p00008 was detected gmc doesn't have a recall on this it obvious that this problem isn't resolved i'm paying $16000 for a vehicle that i have to invest more into money into that i haven't even a year yet every where i look about details about this problem i keep finding the same answers it would be great if they would fix this problem because i really like my vehicle but i will not invest $3000 + in a vehicle that i still owe on and it's the manufacturer liability to replace!!!

Timing chain failure on the engine around 84,000 miles. dealer and gm recommended a full engine replacement (initially, all costs to replace on me). replacement engine (rebuild/ re manufacture) was then recalled in april 2016 for faulty piston rings. this engine was replaced at no cost. please investigate this engine / model years!

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the engine stalled as the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure occurred twice. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 63,000. .....updated 04/15/16 *bf the consumer stated stalled 2nd time and towed over 100 miles. *tr

Took the car in to have check engine light diagnoised. dealer advised that the timing chain needs replacement. estimate is $3300+ gm knows about the problems with timing chains in the 07-09 acadias, and have provided assistance to owners of those vehicles. it's clear to me they haven't got the problems solved yet. 2010 acadia 111,000 km (69,000 mi) synthetic oil changed @ 10,000 km intervals

Timing chain issues. i am about to pay $2500.00 to replace the timing chains. i keep reading that the problem was solved, but since so many people are still having to problem, i guess they haven't fixed the problem
