While investigating the 50 mph failure of the pcm module, and the ongoing off/on action of the abs module, i ran across what appears to be a mistake on page 43-3 of the fomoco "2001 wiring diagrams/windstar" manual (fcs-12255-01). i exchanged several emails, case # cas-4648613-l1x1r6 crm:03259000003405, with the ford customer relations center about this matter until they told me to contact a dealer. i sent the questions to my dealer asking for correct information, but they haven't acknowledged my inquiry. what i suspect is all windstar's on the road today may be operating with only one-half of the scp (j1850 pwm) network operational. now that many of the defective abs modules are failing, are other windstars in danger of engine failure at speed like ours? the two simple questions i asked fomoco are: 1) are you sure circuit 915 (data bus-) should be grounded at the abs module? 2) what is the proper termination for the ford data bus (circuits 914& 915), 120 ohms, 650 ohms, 3k ohms, what and where?
The abs light goes on in the car without any warning. *tr
The van had the abs and brake lights on intermittently since purchased by my parents in july 2003. parents were told by dealer that there is no mechanical problem and ignore the lights. there have been no incidents, luckily they had no emergency to avoid by hard braking. now, as i prepare to sell the vehicle, i did some basic research into the issue and found many references to report it here and an option for a relatively inexpensive fix, to rebuild the abs ecm module due to loose or poor solder joints on the electronics board. hopefully enough reports will get this recalled properly to avoid any incidents for others.
Abs and brake warning light come on instrument panel intermittently. abs diagnostic trouble codes are as follows: c1234; c1235; c1236; c1185; u1260; c1446 auto mechanic states that is common problem with ford abs control module (brake ecu). ford bulletin on c1185 code states faulty solder connections cause printed circuit board failure. dealer wants approximately $2000 to complete repair.
Driving home from work. going 20 mph. heard a clunk, then a big bam. front tire was blown. pulled into an empty parking lot. had vehicle towed back to where i work (toyota dealer). service looked at it the next day. the left front axle broke. it also needs a new tire, spring, strut and abs sensor. i've had all the recalls performed. i've always done the service needed. our service department checks it out every year to make sure it's safe. i'm lucky that i didn't hit anyone and was able to keep it under control. *tr
My speedometer, abs light, and o/d off light all are on. the master cylinder was leaking brake fluid everywhere. i replaced the bottom part with a factory ford part. the leaking has stopped, however the brake fluid leaked all over and has caused severe damage to the vehicle. i believe ford should be held liable for this and replace all computers and parts that were affected by . *tr
Abs light stays on. car idles high all the time, speedometer and all other dashboard control go haywire for no reason. i have to pound on the dashboard to make it stop. this had been going on for a long time. carmd device states abs sensor need and various other thing. i have spend a lot of money to no avail. seat belt attached to sliding door on the right side which is to cross over to the passenger on the second row never worked. i purchased this as a used vehicle six years ago i do like this mini van but with all of the major problems i really don't think i will be able to afford this vehicle much longer. please help me it you can. i live in an area where a vehicle is mandatory and i am on a fixed income. i just want to be safe on the road. please help. *tr
