Traction control light comes on, abs light comes on, brake light comes on.
The abs light will come "on" and brake light comes on a few seconds to a minute later while driving, brakes seem to work fine. *tr
The abs yellow warning light and red brake lights come on at random driving times. once lights appear, the abs system no longer works. we have replaced the brake module two times and problem returns within days of replacement. *tr
Purchased this vehicle in january 2012 and have had nothing but problems with it. according to ford all recalls have been done on this vehicle but here is a list of the issues with the van: abs light comes on, check engine light comes on, van has no cruise control at all, and last friday i could not put the van in gear. after the ford dealership "repaired" the solenoid for the van now all of a sudden there is currently no rear brake lights. this van is less than safe to be on the road and have seen that some of the recalls would have solved the speed control issue but the ford factory will not answer any of my questions. take a look online and you will see thousands of people with the same issues we are having and it was brought to the attention of ford that we are having the same issues as thousands of other people so this is beyond a problematic vehicle.the vehicle is currently sitting at the local ford dealer while they try and figure out what is wrong with the light system. this vehicle has been in the shop twice since we have owned it and this is costing us hundreds (so far) to fix issues that everyone with this vehicle is having. the latest issues have led to us being without a vehicle for almost a week and we have a disabled child in the home and this is unacceptable. *tr
The brake light keeps turning on and off(abs control module problem?). the power window on passenger's side had stopped working a few years ago. *tr
My abs light is on and my brake light will also be on at times. have had brake work done and checked several times. they find nothing wrong with brakes. told i could get new abs computer system put in but nothing wrong with brakes and that would just be $$$$$$ and i have already spent several hundreds of dollars on it. even had new brake pads put on again in 2014 with a new caliper, still light appears. it goes off and then it seems when driven for a while lights come back on. at times i do smell something like it is hot but did not find anything. i am also having my engine light staying on. code is showing lean fuel. mechanics have done all kinds of test including i think a smoke test and showing no leaks. i have spent a lot of money trying to get this problem fixed and having no success. i am using certified mechanics and my husband has also been in the front end business for over 30 years and known as one of the best. so i have my abs light and brake light and my engine light on???? bought used van 2009 i now have 144,000 and i keep my van serviced. *tr
Abs and brake lights come on intermittently. abs braking will not work. *tr
I have purchased a 2002 windstar in april 2012, we noticed the abs light and brake light would appear and we'd be low on brake fluid. we replaced the master brake cylinder but they said the sensor on bottom was unavailable to order, we called ford and they told us the same thing. the sensor is full of brake fluid. we have to fill our brake fluid about once every 2 weeks in warm weather more often. when i took it into dealership for recall on axle i asked about this they said theres no recalls for it. i can not afford to purchase a new vehicle nor would i want to sell this vehicle to another person as it was sold to me without being told of problem. is there going to be a recall on this? *tr
Abs brake light on. *tr
We bought our van in march 2012. by april 2012 we began noticing problems with shifting. it shifts hard. the windows stopped working in may 2012. the lights on the dash for the abs and brakes are always on. the brakes are not very good and the pedal must be pushed hard to get the van to stop. our biggest issue is with the transmission. the mechanic at aamco would not even change the fluid because if he changed the fluid then the transmission wouldn't be able to shift. i don't know the details but i do know that my van is not safe to drive. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 ford windstar. the contact stated that the vehicle was leaking brake fluid. the brakes were applied and they abnormally traveled to the floorboard. additionally, the brakes would grind when applied. the brake and abs warning lights were also illuminated when vehicle was being driven. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for inspection or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of issue. the failure mileage was 155,000 and the current mileage was 175,000.
Brake and abs dash light illuminate. once the vehicle is shut off then restarted the lights do not come one for a little while, but they do come back on. the codes that come up are directed to faulty abs module. we were told there is a possible fire risk involved due to manufacturer's defects. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The brake and abs lights on the dashboard come on intermittently although there is no problem with these systems.
Abs brake warning light comes on when outside temp is 85 degrees +. anti-lock brake system is disabled due to faulty circuit board overheating. *tr
The abs and brake lights come on simultaneously while driving and i get a message telling me to "check abs". turning off the ignition and restarting clears the problem. code pulled reveal a fault within the abs module. *tr
The abs and red brake light as well as the traction control light, and now my battery light come on and off intermittently. the abs system kicks in at unnecessary times making it difficult to stop. the speedometer is now also bouncing up and down intermittently, but no other gauges seem to be affected. *tr
The warning light for brakes and abs kept coming on and there was not an actual problem with the brakes. *tr
Anti-lock brake light comes on intermittently, and while on, the anti-lock brakes do not work. often the light just comes on for just a short period, then goes back out. repair shop can't identify problem unless the light is on. i'm told this is a common problem with this make and model, probably the anti-lock brake sensor. typically, when starting the car, the anti-lock brake light is not on, and the brakes work correctly. the light will come on and the anti-lock feature of the brakes will not work suddenly as you're driving. bad situation in cleveland, ohio in the winter. *tr
Abs and brake lights come on simultaneously at random on almost every trip. once on, they stay on until car is shut off. this seems to be related to a loose connection somewhere in the system because they usually come on when i hit a bump. this never happens when i am stepping on the brake pedal. *tr
Purchased vehicle in 2011 used, shortly after purchase the following issues began to occur, the last issue of the overdrive light blinking continuously occurred on 12-04-2012. vehicle sited above exhibits constant abs lighted yellow, brake light - constant red, odometer - mileage replaced with dashes, speedometer - not functioning, cruise control - not functioning, over drive on/off indicator - continuous blinking. *tr
After purchasing from a dealer in oct of 2010 the abs light, check traction control light, brake light and air bag light started coming on intermittently. had the vehicle serviced in mi for the axle recall. was without the vehicle and had loaner car for 2 months. after getting vehicle back the lights were on more consistently the dealership noted this but did not offer any reason found for this. by summer of 2011 these lights were staying on almost constantly and this continued for a year, after investigating this issue online and seeing that other owners have invested hundreds of dollars trying to get the lights to go off and stay off only to have them keep coming back on we have decided to file a complaint as this issue is not a simple fix and obviously is happening in hundreds of vehicles. our problem has progressed to where the speedometer and odometer go wildly up and down while driving at highway speeds and we are never sure of our speed. the lights on the dash go out and the power to door locks, radio and a/c power is lost as well as the blinkers for lane changes. this vehicle is very unsafe but we need it as we have 5 children and can not afford to buy a new one. the power window on passenger side as well as the power sliding doors do not work. when this issue happens if their happened to be an electrical fire because of it, we would be unable to exit the vehicle because the doors are locked and the knobs on the interior of this model are flush into the door when the vehicle is locked and can not be manually pulled up. with children, this is a very serious safety concern. please please investigate this issue with the ford windstar. i have also contacted for with my complaint and they only would say there are no recalls on this issue right now but to save my receipts should i try to get it fixed in case one is issued in the future. *tr
After driving some distance, usually 5-20 miles or after the van has warmed up, the abs and brake dashboard lights and come on. the speed at which this occurs is random. the abs is indeed incapacitated, thus suddenly increasing the braking distance. the trip computer also beeps, and tells me that the traction control has been disabled. *tr
Abs and brake warning lights come on.can go for days without doing so and then appear again: when warning lights come on abs not working although brakes function. on checking internet this appears to be a regular problem since windstar was introduced. i do not know when this appeared on my vehicle as was already occurring when i purchased it 11/22/2011. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 ford windstar. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the brake, abs, and traction control lights all illuminated. the only way the lights stopped illuminating was if he had the under carriage washed. eventually, the lights all illuminated again. the vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic for a diagnosis, however the failures continued. the failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 150,000.
Since i purchased this van from steuben/yates county pro-action in nys wheels to work program, i have had numerous problems with my ford windstar. 1st problem was with emission code stating it needed a map censor; 2nd issue was the sway bar broke (was repaired under recall at ford dealership in elmira, ny jan 2012). after numerous complaints to the car dealer ship i purchased the windstar from the garage, their mechanic replaced o-rings in the engine to fix the map censor in jan 2012 as well. in february 2014 i invested a little over 1,800.00 in repairs to my mechanic for; tune up, struts and shocks, brakes all around, wheel bushings, and a wheel alignment. i keep the van well maintained with oil changes and lately my radiator is loosing fluid. i always stop in where i maintain it and the business is always topping off the radiator fluid and when scheduled oil changes are due, i am always a quart low on oil. most recent incident: i will be driving along and the van turns off and turns back on while driving. at night when this would happen i have no headlights for a brief moment but that is still an unsafe van. also, i get an electric shocked every time i touch the van as i get in to go somewhere. ****this is my first and last ford!!**** *tr
Abs light stays on, now brake light comes on and goes off. *tr
Abs and brake lights come on periodically. can't be reset and have asked mechanic what issue is. was told it's an abs module that costs at least $700 to replace. have looked online for help on this and it looks like several other people are having this same issue. is ford looking to put a recall out for this? living in the midwest weather, having my abs working would be a nice addition when driving in the four seasons of weather. *tr
The abs and red brake and trac lights come on at the same time, stay on until i turn the car off. it will go for weeks than it comes on again, same thing. its been almost going on for almost two years. *tr
The abs light is on and the abs system is inoperable. *tr
The antilock brake system light as well as the traction control lights keep coming on. garage can't tell the exact cause. the booster arm busted, keeping the brakes engaged as driven. the booster arm was replaced and the lights are still on. i reset it, and they reappear after a short time. i now smell the brakes when applied. i've had engine replaced at 101,000 miles, two transmissions, multiple brake jobs, rear axle repaired, front axle repaired, front tie rods repaired. the alignment on my vehicle could only be partially completed.... toe, and another alignment done, but the complete alignment would need a hole drilled in the frame and a bolt moved over - bad design by ford. i've also had to have the oxygen sensor replaced at my own expense. the vehicle is a ticking time bomb, piece of crap. *tr
The 1st problem, had a check engine light on my 2001 ford windstar, c1518 "intake manifold runner control stuck open." after reading forums, most pointed to a plastic "bushing" clip coming off leaving a control arm 2nd problem, abs chk light and brk chk light come on after driving for a few minutes, abs module and abs sensor went out. *tr
Right after i had the recall for 3 different recall the front end, brakes, rear axle completed my abs light, brake light & track off lights all light up on my dash all at the same time & stay on. i have a photo of this. after i turn van off for awhile (it needs to cool down) they go off. i called ford several times about this and they said it had nothing to do with their brake recall or front end recalls if i wanted to pay them to check it out i can bring it in. amazing that i never had any problems with my van until ford started fixing the recalled items. *tr
I purchased my 2002 ford windstar as a new vehicle and i have been the only owner and driver. it has received regular professional servicing and repairs and overall, is in superior condition. since 2007 it has only been used on the weekends and i use a smaller car for work. a few years ago, the abs light started coming on unpredictably and intermittently in rainy weather and the brakes would lose power dramatically increasing braking distances. because the problem with braking was sporadic at first, the mechanic thought it was merely an electrical problem causing the abs light to come on. the ford service department said there were no recalls for such a problem. i have had the brakes replaced, and although the pads and rotors are in good condition, the braking problem has worsened. the abs light and intermittent brake failure is much more frequent. i have recently learned that other windstar owners have experienced the same problem and that ford recalled 1999-2003 windstars for abs because the ecu master relay has a bad soldier joint that fails causing the intermittent contacts. when i brought that information to my ford service manager, i was told the recall did not include my particular vin. i am not sure how ford determines which vins get recalled -- but i am sure that my vehicle should have been included. it is unsafe because the brakes are unpredictable at this point. it is scary to think that ford would allow this known and serious defect in it's vehicles to go unaddressed. *tr
These trouble lights light up all the time turn vehicle off and restart lights go away til the next time. i don't know what the problem is. they come on constantly now is this dangerous? *tr
Abs light on. *tr
Abs brake lights on, after research, its a common problem with faulty abs modules. subframe is rotting out with the mounting points of the subframe peeling away. o/d light coming on intermittently, after research, common problem points back to a bad vehicle speed sensor. mileage does not seem to be a factor. faulty hard lines for rear heating. multiple cracks in lines cause radiator fluid loss. very very common problem, looked at 10-15 windstars in pull-a-parts lot, all with faulty hard lines. *tr
Abs warning light on, traction control and brake light also on i was told by the dealer the abs module has failed. *tr
Electrical shorts fire , ac , brakes speel control ,locks doors
While traveling at highway speeds, noted that the abs and brake lights illuminated on the instrument cluster. checked fluids and pads and they appeared fine. since that time, the lights intermittently come on. front brakes have been replaced as well. have had 3 independent shops look at the problem and all say that the abs module has failed. when the lights are illuminated, abs does not function. vehicle now has approximately 80,000 miles (04/22/2013). *tr
My van abs light and brake light comes on and goes off all the time. it has been staying on more often. it doesn't matter what speed, temp, time, or if brakes are applied. is my van safe and why hasn't ford done anything about this problem. i have read hundreds of complaints on different site. *tr
My 2002 ford windstar started to display the brake, traction control and abs indicator lights, indicating that the abs system was malfunctioning. this causes the traction control not to work, and the abs to shut down. standard brakes still function. at first, the lights would stay off for a period of time when i restarted the car. i would start to drive, then i might hit a bump in the road and the lights would reappear. now, the 3 lights are on as soon as i start the car or within a few minutes of driving, with or without hitting a bump in the road. my mechanic stated that this is a common problem in ford windstars and that an abs module needs to be replaced at an approx. cost of $1500. *tr
Brake light and abs light stays on in the vehicle at all times at the present time. at one time the light would come on and off (was worse when it was humid out). have replaced numerous brake parts. *tr
Yellow abs dash light comes on randomly and also the red brake light on the dash comes on at the same time as the yellow abs light and is also random, some times they stay for days and go off for a short time but come on again later. *tr
Noticed at this time and several other times that the abs light would come on and i would loose this system and brakes would lock and also have no brakes intermittently. worse in hot weather than in cold. *tr
Abs light and brake lights comes on after driving a few miles. does this periodically each time it is driven. was told by ford dealership & independent repair shop that it was a faulty abs brake module & that the regular brakes were fine but abs was not working causing warning lights to illuminate. *tr
There are continued repeated intermittent failures of the abs control module thus rendering the entire braking system and traction control system as unreliable. the incidents happen quite frequently and often appear related to the ambient air temperature. i have had my mechanics replace multiple wheel bearings and clear over 30 codes related to the failure of this component. this is basically rendering my vehicle as a significant safety risk for me and my family. *tr
About 2 years ago i have noticed that the abs and brake light would come on sometimes now after driving a few miles they come on constantly now. i spoke to a ford service advisor and was told it would cost me over $600.00 to repair and that there was a recall only for certain states. this does not seem fair to other ford owners to have to pay for something that ford has a default on and seems to be a problem with in a lot of these vehicles. i can not afford this repair and i'm sure most people can not afford. please look into this. *tr *js
While driving on a highway with cruise control engaged, the brake and abs lights came on. the brakes were unaffected. we stopped and checked on finding a mechanic in the town we were going through, but when we re-started the van, the lights were back off. the brakes remained unaffected. the problem recurs sporadically at intervals of a few weeks to a few months. sometime later, we had to have the cruise control repaired due to two bad switches (damaged by leaks). i mention this because evidence suggests a link between the cruise control and the abs problems. *tr
While driving the abs and the brake light will come on and stay on. *tr
While driving at any speed the abs & brake light warnings light up. had all recalls done and mechanic said it would cost around $600.00 to repair. *js
