I just received nhtsa safety recall 15v-608.this is as least the third "urgent safety notice" on my vehicle for a rear axle problem (at this point i call this a clear defect). ford has been able to avoid replacing the defective rear axle for years and allowed to install reinforcement brackets (a band-aid approach), even after admitting the reinforcement brackets may have been installed improperly as well. when i brought my vehicle for the last safety recall ford made light of the issue and said the brackets "looked ok". obviously from the new notice things are not "ok". i will have it checked again but i have little faith in ford doing the right thing. ford should be required to replace my rear axle at no cost, i shouldn't have to pay $300 to replace their defective parts. if this axle should crack and cause any damage or injury i guarantee legal action against anyone that i can hold responsible for this issue. thank you. *tr

After hearing a loud cracking noise from rear area of the 2000 ford windstar, husband investigated and found a large crack in the rear axle. i called ford customer relations today who after looking at my vin told me that while everything is the same (ie: the location of the crack, year and model of the vehicle) as in recall #10s13, there was nothing they could do because the van wasn't made at the facility that the recalled parts were made. how is it not covered and it's exactly the same? very rude customer relation guy, i might add. very unhappy ford owner. *tr

I am very concern about my 2000 ford windstar lx. i had two problems with my van in which a bracket came a loose on my van. i lost complete control of my van and had to pull over and call for help. thank god i was on the city roads and not the highway. the last time i had an incident, i was told that the rear axle is cracking and my subframe needs to be inspected. i was told that this could be extremely hazardous. i was told that i needed the rear axle replaced. i see that there has been recalls in the northern states but i reside in charlotte, nc. i feel that this needs to be extended out to the southern states. please consider in allowing us to have our axles inspected for the safety of our families; if the vehicle needs repairs to allow ford to repair this problem at no cost to us. *tr
Had vehicle in for service recalls. recalls met the requirements to replace the subframe assy; however, it was repaired instead. contacted ford about my concern over how it was being fixed and was told that the dealer was given info. on how to do the repair and if there was any problem after it was fixed, i would have to take it up with the dealer because it would be a warranty issue with them, that ford would not help me. now after picking up the vehicle, the a/c no longer works. - it blew cold air before they got it. *kb
2000 ford windstar: cracked rear axle and corrosion and related failures of the front sub-frame. we are writing to report a rear cracked axle and failed, damaged and corroded front sub-frame assembly of our 2000 ford van. ford recalled: "certain 1998-2003 model year windstar vehicles operated in corrosion states" for cracked or broken rear axles (safety recall 10513- supplement #10); and for failed and corroded "subframe front lower control arm rear attaching flanges and rear body mount attachments. our ford van has both these failures and is unsafe to drive. the vehicle failed the state safety inspection due to its cracked axle. the inspector advised us the van was unsafe to drive. the koons ford service department has inspected the van and concluded that the rear axle and front sub-frame have failed because of corrosion and both need to be replaced. the vehicle was "operated" regularly in maryland and the district of columbia, as well as driven in the winter in snow and ice conditions in high corrosion states. we were told by koons that an extension of the recall was denied by ford because while the vehicle was operated in high corrosion states, it was not registered in a high corrosion state. northern virginia weather is similar to official adjacent high corrosion states. the national weather service groups northern virginia with areas of maryland and dc with regard to snow fall. "sodium chloride (salt) is virginia's primary snow removal and ice control chemical". the "registration" requirement is erroneous. consideration should be given to whether a vehicle was operated in high corrosion areas, where salt is used . ford's letter of 1/ 26/2011 to nhtsa, states that " we are taking the action to confirm our commitment to safety and to address any potential vehicle owner concerns." request that the recalls be extended to our vehicle. the sway bar links were replaced. updated ivoq 12/20/11 *tr
After employing the standard issued ford windstar scissors jack and raising the lr subframe at the designated jack point to change a flat tire, the subframe started to snap and buckle. the van then started to lower in height without operating the jack. the van lowered in height approximately 1-2 in. after removing the jack, the assigned jack point was bent. had i been traveling, i would not have been able to effectively and safely employ(and still can not safely employ) the issued jack and repair the flat without possible harm or injury. *tr

(she laughed) she told me to call my dealership. which i have asked my dealership 3 times now and got 3 different answers. but i did leave a message for the service manager to call me. my concern is if ford headquarters isnt manufacturing the parts for there vechiles how safe are these parts and have they been tested? who is suppose to be manufacturing these parts do you know? are these orignal factory parts? because the back braces they put on my windstar are not factory parts. so is the front parts going to be the same kinda of fix? are these fixes ford is providing safe and been tested since they are not factory parts and will they last? this is my #1 concern. can you you please give me some answers thank- you for your attention to this matter. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My 2000 ford windstar did not pass safety recall 11s16 they called me to tell me it was grounded. then they proceeded to tell me i cannot rent a vehicle because i don't have a credit card. although i offered them my debit card which they said was not good enough. i live in n.h. where insurance is not required. so i do not have insurance but i am not required to since i'm over 21 years of age and have a good driving record. i also have lived at my address for 9 years with the same phone number. so it comes down to my car is unsafe to drive but if i want a car to get places i need to since, i'm handicapped also on a fixed income. they told me i would have to sign a waiver stating my car was unsafe to drive to get it back. they are putting me in a situation that i have no other choice but to drive my car. or otherwise i have no car to get anywhere. they did not try to work with me at all regarding my safety driving fords unsafe vehicle. also i was called at the end of the day to tell me all this when i dropped my car off at 7:30 a.m. now it looks like im not going to be able to get to any doctor appointments or grocery stores etc. etc. my life is on hold with ford. :( this is a very disturbing situation they have put me in. also i would like to ask why they are sending recall letters out before they even have the parts when they aren't going to help you with another vehicle in the meantime? just to let you know i will sign there stupid wavier cause they have given me no other choice!!! to make it perfectly clear not by my choice. so i pray god will be watching over me!! thank-you. *tr
