Rear axle cracked

My 2000 ford windstar axle just broke had repair done when i got recall notice , vehicle was stored in my garage for the winter when we came back in the spring left rear tire was flat when chrysler dealer fixed flat they noticed broken axle

I like to bring to your attention a still ongoing life-threatening safety issue with the ford windstar 2000 rear axle. as you know, the windstar's were recalled for this safety issue in 2010. my particular car was reinforced with 2 brackets under safety recall 10s13 at the most critical part of the axle and i think in the area were the brackets are installed the axle will hold up even with a lot of corrosion present. the problem is the axle is cracking just 1 inch to the right beside the reinforced bracket in my case the driver's side of the car. the only reason i found out about this, a few weeks ago i had my car serviced and i did an inspection on the axle and that's when i found that big crack half way around the axle!!! that same day i went to my ford dealer (bill brown) to bring it to their attention, unfortunately for the service manager this was not a recall matter anymore and he had no interest of inspecting the axle without charging me $ 125.00. naturally i refused to pay that amount.

The aframe broke off the subframe

Rear axle brakets-the braket was reinforced about 2yrs ago and for the 2nd time ford is saying that maybe was reforced wrong, try make appoint. to confirm if they were done correctly or not and now nobody call back to make an appointm. or when they can look into and if i want the work done i can $300 to replace it on top the letter was receive last week of sept. and due date to replace for that price is october 31st. why not mail airlier when dealers always are so busy?, contact the 866 ph and they say mostly the letter was for to replace it for $300. i need somebody check first before make decisions, why am i have to pay without seen the car? in this website you don't show any recall, what's wrong with all of you people? please help.

Recall exist in rear axle. letter of recall revived letter.

I was driving on city street after exiting hiway and my van felt like it hit the ground there was alot of noise. my daughter starts crying she was really scared .later a friend said my axle broke in two. i called fotd company and ask them how & why would an axle break. needless to say they couldnt help me. altho there was a recall for the very same vehicle for the very same reason. rear axle breaking. im totally confused . please help

My wife, daughter and granddaughter were in the van and it started to swerve a little back and forth, but the wife didn't know why. they made it home and i looked at it and saw that the rear axle was almost completely broke in half. we're lucky that it didn't go out of control while they were driving.

Van stalled while driving, had to be towed. mechanic could not communicate with computer. van is having an electrical short which keeps blowing fuse #22 in which van can not be started or driven. safety hazard, ford must recall van

I was driving down on 896, in the left hand lane, when my 2000 ford windstar lx van stopped running. i was going about 50mph when all of a sudden it just stopped. (i did have some transmission slipping previously but it had stopped.) (i thought that it was because the van hadn't been driven for about 4 months). i immediately put my hazards on and called the delaware state police. if this had happened on the interstate, i would have been killed. as it was. it happened this morning while i was on my way to work. i had people come flying up behind my vehicle and blowing their horn at me. thankfully it was not rush hour otherwise i would not be here right now, which means my children would be motherless!

On july 14, 2015 while driving the vehicle the engine literally fell out of the car onto the roadway and unable to steer. vehicle was towed to champion lincoln mercury in brockton ma on that day. there was a recall #11s16 on march 11, 2011 for the subframe lower control arm rear attaching flanges rear body mounts. vehicle was inspected and passed on may 31, 2011. it has been 4 months and ford refuses to supply the necessary parts to fix my vehicle. i've attached all recall notices, repairs, inspections and pictures as requested. we could have been killed or caused serious damage to someone else as a result of this defect in my vehicle. even the dealership is appalled at the treatment received in this matter. i would appreciate any help you may be able to provide in resolving this issue.

While driving down the highway my van van stopped accelerating and acted like i was in neutral. luckily i had no cars behind me because i would have been rear ended if there had. my transmission went out and was told i need a new one at 2400 dollars. i had no gears forward or reverse but the van would still run and turn on fine. had to have it towed. as a parent of four kids who regularly are in this van i am disappointed that ford has not recalled these for safety with all of these complaints. will it take someone dying for them to do something? i can definitely say i will not be buying a ford again since they can't stick by there motor and make things right!

I bought my van used just a month before i noticed this defect, i came outside to get in the van and noticed the rear wheels leaning slightly inward at the top. my son in law inspected it further to discover that the rear axle had bent. upon further investigation we discovered that there had been a recall on all ford windstar models between 1998 and 2003. we notified ford and they told us that this vehicle had already been recalled and repaired in 2011 and the repair had a 12 month warranty. my son in law checked and sure enough there were repair sleeves wrapped around the rear axle at both ends. this repair did not fix the original problem because the rear axle had cracked right under where the repair sleeve was placed and had bent bad, bad enough that both rear tires were rubbing the inner fenders at the top and the van was sitting much lower in the rear end than it should have been. thank god i had noticed the problem before the axle completely cracked in half the rest of the way because there is nothing else holding the rear wheels onto the vehicle and if i was driving the wheel and part of the axle could have flown off to who knows where and possibly killed me and whoever else was in the van. i've had to completely replace the rear axle with another part from another van which is also defective and will soon have to be replaced again. ford takes no responsibility for this past the original "fix" which was warrantied for only 12 months. the recall was not a good fix and seems to have only been a band aid to keep customers quiet until the warranty on it runs out. i have done research online and found that this is not an isolated incident and in fact has happened to many hundreds of people, coincidentally around the same time as my incident happened.

Corrected recall was not done effectively within two years of repaired recall beam axle failed at the end of the repaired area.

The instrument cluster gauges start dancing back and forth, then the tack gauge maxed out and stuck under the shift indicator. i went to a ford dealer in fort wayne in. and they removed the cluster and broke off part of the tack needle so it can't become stuck again. still to this day (a year later) the gauges start dancing and sometimes freeze in a position. once it showed i was doing 80 mph while stopped at a stop light. some days they work then other times they dont. i recently found out this is a common problem with ford windstars. look up dancing gauges windstar on you-tube and see all the issues people show. if this is such a big issue why isnt something being done about it? respectfully, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).? *jb

The subframe on the passenger side where the bracket for the front stabilizer is attached rusted completely through, causing the stabilizer bar to break loose. *tt

My son was driving on the highway. while driving at 40 miles per hour the back axel fractured. this resulted in him crashing into the center cement devider as well as the from left control arm breaking as well. he had to go to the hospital and get checked out. it is a shame that i have to find out about this recall through my insurer.

Work was performed on the sub frame of the 2000 ford windstar referenced above on april 16, 2012, as a result of a ford recall notice, number: 11s16. the recall description is as follows: "corrosion-related fractures of the front lower control arm rear attaching brackets and body mount attachments may occur. a separation of a front lower control arm rear attaching bracket may result in a lower control arm separation. a separation of both front subframe rear body mounts may result in separation of the steering intermediate shaft. either condition could result in significant loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash." the work done on april 16, 2012 was performed by sheehy ford in gaithersburg, md. who installed new brackets on the sub frame, to prevent the sub frame from breaking and/or eroding. at the time, there was a great deal of advanced rusting on the sub frame. on august 30, 2014, the car was taken back to sheehy ford, after loud knocking noises could be heard under the hood. sheehy ford looked at the car, consulted with their technicians and reported back on september 4, 2014 that the sub frame had rusted through. the sounds coming from the car were due to the unstable sub frame, which holds the parts of the car in place. they also advised the car was unsafe to drive. after an additional review, sheehy ford concluded that the previous work in april of 2012 was sufficient to hold the sub frame. they have since held fast to their claim that no further "programs" are available to be able to repair the current problem of a rusted sub frame in the car. a complaint was also made through ford motor company customer service center. they took the complaint and provided a case number of: 5190828l6x2x4x, but ultimately their decision is the same as sheehy: no other programs are available to cover the cost of any additional repair to the car. 1/5/15.

Rear axle completely broke while driving. car is undrivable.

2000 ford windstar. consumer states that paint is falling off the vehicle. also states that the headlight lens covers are faded and discolored. *kb

The sub frame on my 2000 ford windstar has rotted out. the steering and suspension are all out of wack. the vehicle swerves from left-to-right and right-to-left when driving on the road. my mechanic told me that it is not safe to drive. this is a major safety hazard - life threatening. i am afraid to drive this vehicle. ford needs to do something about the numerous incidents similar to this one. i demand a recall on this.

We were traveling down the highway when car started to float side to side. something was not right so i slowed down. it seemed to be manageable but still felt something was not right. we pulled off to the nearest gas station only to realize that the front right tire had been chewed up and was now flat. the left tire also had slight wear marks. this was upsetting since the tires were only 5 months old and i had the dealership do a full alignment. when taking it back to the dealership and an inspection of the vehicle, he informed us that we were very lucky to have not been in an accident. while it was on the lift he showed us that one section of the sub-frame (engine carriage) was totally severed.

At our inspection renewal appointment, the mechanic said front subframe of our 2000 ford windstar lx was cracked and rusted out, vehicle was very unsafe to drive, and could give out at any moment. obviouisly the vehicle did not pass the inspection. at recall appointment at local dealership regarding the rear axle, my wife expressed concern over the subframe as well, and employees there brushed off her inquiries as "unrelated" to the other suspension problem. she also questioned them about any past recalls on our vehicle and was assured that there were not, even though after researching this question we found that there were in fact other recalls on the windstar.

My 2000 ford windstar is at john lance ford in westlake ohio for the rear axle recall. they offered me a buyout . the thing is i can't afford a new car and the payments that come with it. i was very happy my windstar was finally paid off. now i hear that there is a new recall out from last week for a new reason. so now i have been with a replacement car ( provided by ford) for 4-5 months already. who in the mean time is starting my van from time to time through this brutal winter ? will i ever get my van back and if so will it be " driver ready?" i really would love a new auto and though the offer for the van is more then the blue book it is not enough. what is the status of my van repair and who should i call to service this loaner car as i feel it now needs some maintenance? and feedback would be greatly appreciated . i have a feeling that the van is not repairable and this has been a very log inconvenience yours truly *tr

2000 ford windstar axle failure. *tr

The rear wheel axle is bent and cracked on both left and right sides and right rear tire is about to fall off. i noticed violent shaking in the rear of the car and the tires were screeching as if i was driving very fast. took the vehicle to the dealer where i bought it and was told the problem. *tr

I was driving my 2000 windstar on the skuykill expressway on monday, july 19, 2010 at 12:33 pm on my way to an appointment. about a quarter mile befor the gilph mills exit heading east, i was in the passing lane traveling about 55-60 mph, when there was a load "pop" from the rear of my van. i immediately lost controll of the van and it slid across the highway . i first hit the embankment off the shoulder, was thrown back into the highway as the van slide on the drivers side and then flipped upside down. the van came to rest in the middle of the skuykill expressway upside down, facing the traffic. thank god all traffic stopped and no one hit me, and i didn't hit anyone.. the van was totalled. i suffered head injuries, as well as broken and bruised ribs in my back, as well as severe muscle damage. i was able to unhook my seat belt and crawl out the window, and i waited till help came. as i looked at the upside down van, i did see that the rear axles was split in half. i was taken to bryn mawr hospital for treatment, and released several days later. i still have not been able to go back to work because of my back issues. *tr

Abs light comes on at random intervals -- usually after a bumpy road. only happens when temperature above 30 degrees. does not happen when the temperature is below that. we have had one day this winter above 30 degrees and the light came on again. same thing happened last winter. dealer has looked at it several times and want to replace the abs computer at 500+ dollars.

2000 ford windstar van caught fire under the hood on christmas eve and was destroyed. *tr

At this time we are leasing a 2000 windstar lx and we can't wait to turn it in to the dealership - and we plan to never purchase another ford product again. we have purchased a used honda accord and expect that we will be quite happy with it... there was a recall on the exhaust/emissions was fixed and the light came on again and will not go out - eastgate ford, dayton, oh does not know why the light will not go out. the paint on the luggage rack is peeling off. the door actuator on the passenger sliding door - does not work - it takes 2 people to open the door, one inside and one outside. the power steering pump is faulty. ford has a service bullentin out - but there is no recall because ford does not believe there is a safety issue here - i do not agree. proper steering is pretty important and if a smaller size female or male was turning left and the pump failed, it could be quite hazzardous. our biggest complaint is the way ford motor company and eastgate ford have treated us. there is no accountability on either part. ford or eastgate won't stand behind their product.

There is no light on dash to indicate that cruise control is on. consumer feels this is a safety concern. *ak *yd

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford windstar. the contact stated that when attempting to enter or exit her vehicle, the door handle would shock her. the failure began nine years ago. the dealer or manufacturer were not notified nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired due to cost. the current mileage was approximately 145,000. the failure mileage was unknown. updated 2/28/11 *cn updated 04/2/11

When i first purchased my vehicle, the battery was dead and had to be jump-started. after that, on a regular basis, my battery would lose its charge. on 12/15/00 the battery was replaced. since i purchased the vehicle the airbag light has been coming on intermittently. sometimes it flashes, other times it stays on, i can be driving and it will come on all of a sudden and later it will go off. the sliding doors sometimes pop back open when i close them. the driver's side door doesn't always open when i push the button. the passenger side door sometimes sounds like its not completely closed. it looks like it's closed on the outside, but rattles going over bumps or around corners. this problem particularly scares me because i have a child sitting in the seat next to that door. i am also afraid that the airbag is going to deploy while i am driving the car. i have brought my van in to the dealership on 3 different occasions and each time they said that they could not duplicate the concern. the last time they had my van for 4 days.*ak

Engine check light keeps coming on. the service department has not fixed the problem after 12 attempts. ford refuses to acknowledge there is a problem. *ak

Vehicle unable to use snow chains when needed to travel up snowy mountains. dealer notified, and informed consumer that nothing could be done. asking nhtsa to help in this matter or provide additional information. *ak
