I have a ford windstar year 1999. about two weeks ago the two brake lights went on, i had a fuse # 10 blown and a non working speedometer dial.( the cruise control has three months that is not working) i did take a look at the owner's manual. in the manual i read that reason for the break light to come on was the lower level of brake fluid in the reservoir and so it was. i added some brake fluid and the light was off. in the mean time i did checked the fuse panel and i found this fuse #10 was blown and i replaced it, but half an hour later i got a blown fuse again. also the abs light was on and so i decided to see a mechanic. i did go to a repair shop and i was told that my van has a serious problem. scds under the master cylinder has developed a bad leak. the scds switch is leaking and that may cause a fire sooner or later. this leak has caused a short and a fuse trip #10 this break fluid leak has wicked down the wires to the abs module. i was told that this leaky switch has caused all the problem in my van. speedometer, cruise control and abs brake system are not working. i was told that there may be a recall on this problems. i do not knowany thing about it. i know that it was a recall issued on august 27,2010 in regard with rear axel. i never got any notice from ford co. i had a broken rear axel on march 2010 and i was saved by good luck. i paid a lot of money to fix it. ford did not pay a dime for this problem. ford never sends me any recall notices. i'm never going to buy ford cars again. *tr

The rear axle cracked on my 1999 ford windstar while driving 20 mph on a city street. the axle had to be replaced. the car is being picked up tomorrow (thursday august 19, 2010) and i will see if the broken axle is available. *tr

On june 17,2010 my boyfriend and i had just arrived home from work and gotten into bed. maybe 10-15min went by when the neighbor was banging on door screaming "your car is on fire" going outside we found the van engulfed in flames ..it had driven beautifully up til this point. the van is total loss. *tr

This was a ford 1999 windstar recall on the abs system. the recall stated that a fire may occur in connection with the abs. i took the car in, however the brake fluid leak inside the car has gotten worse. from time to time the car smokes up, and there is a burning smell. the abs light continues to come on. my fear is that this is still a hazard with all the flammable brake fluid in the car. i looked it up and others have called this problem "braking distance suddenly increased service brakes, hydraulic". brake fluid leaking into the car. this seems to occur constantly. i have cleaned my car with the thought that i spilled oil, however after reading up found out that this was the problem. when i took it in for the recall, this was not mentioned at all to me by the ford dealer. i will be taking it to the dealer that fixed it to see what they will do or say. i guess i am wondering if there is anything else to do. *tr

Rear axle 1999 ford windstar snapped in half while backing out of driveway replaced with one from junkyard and that one has cracked also in same place approx 4/1/10 welded that part. *tr

I bought a ford windstar van from a used car dealer by the name of ray price in dec. of '07. we had been looking for a van for some time and i had looked for any recalls before we purchased. i found none listed. we paid off the car last month, and that's when the trouble started. i have taken it to the garage 3 times in the last month because it kept stalling when it would idle for longer periods of time. the mechanic fixed the intake manifold seals and the surrounding parts, replacing them as needed each time. i also had the spark plugs and plug wires replaced just in case. on thursday july 23rd, my husband replaced the brakes on the front. he drove the van all day with no problems other than the occasional stall. we stopped for milk at the grocery store on our way home from my work and had been inside for only 5-10 minutes when the manager called out that our car was on fire. we ran outside, and the firemen got it out, but the car is a total loss. i spoke to my mechanic and the fire investigator and both told me that they had come across a recall that had been out a few years ago about my van. it seems that ford recalled the cruise control mechanism in the engine because it caused electrical fires just like what happened to mine. the fire chief said it looked exactly like what he had seen before when it happened. since then, ford has denied that there was a recall and won't look into the matter. my car had been on this lot for at least a year before we bought it. if the recall went out, it was never fixed, and a lawyer has already said it is ford's responsibility to take care of the matter. can you check on this for me? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 ford windstar. when the contact took the vehicle in for service, the mechanic noticed rust in the subframe coming from the air conditioning. condensation from the air conditioning on the passenger side was dripping onto the subframe, which caused the rust. the dealer stated that there were no failures and the contact would have to pay for the repair. the manufacturer also stated that the contact would be liable. the vehicle will be repaired at the contact's expense for a little more than $3,000. the failure mileage was 107,547 and current mileage was 107,560.

I have a 1999 ford windstar, 3.8l engine. abs brake light on, no speedometer, no odometer, no air conditioning. took to a repair shop, they found fuse #10 was blown. replaced the fuse and smoke started to come up from the master cylinder area, he removed the electrical connection plug for the brake pressure switch located on the bottom of the master cylinder. thankfully this did not occur while my wife and children in the vehicle, so no one was injured. i have read on the internet of several windstars with this same problem, and believe ford should do something to rectify this problem. *tr

I have a 99 ford windstar with the vin # included in the supposed recall, but when i wrote ford they said that it was not in that list- it starts with 2. my van has begun to burn under the hood and smoke smelling like wiring on fire. a fire had not actually started. do i have to wait until it does and someone does for them to admit that there is something wrong with my van? it is at the second service station because i do not trust my ford dealership, with good reason. i have it in for the second week at a second service station with nothing to drive. how do i get this done expeditiously? *tr

Brake pressure deactivation switch leaking down wires causing fuses to blue along with other major problems. *tr

I have 1999 ford windstar. i have had problems with the speedometer and the odometer, jumping i have no idea how fast i am going, now my gas hand and temp. control is doing the same thing. it has been doing this for a year and half. i have had it to two different garages. no one can find the problem. *tr

I bought my 99 ford windstar sel in march of this year (2006) and not even a week after i bought it when i would pull out from red lights or stop signs and the van would either die on me in the middle of the road or would continuously hesitate. i brought it back to the dealership and the first time they said that it was my keys so they reprogrammed my keys. then it happened again as soon as i left the dealership, i brought it back a second time, they told me that they believed it had to do with my theft device. they assured me it was fixed then sent me home with it. a couple of days later it did the same thing again only this time every time i got in my van or closed my driver door from entering or exiting my van it would tell me on my message system that my driver door was ajar which lead to the interior lights being on. it did that the day i took it home from the dealership so i had to bring it back for a third time now for the re-occurring problem i was having and now with the door being said to be open. they finally said they found the problem and that ford told them that there was a similar incident with another van like mine and said that they had to replace the cip sycronizor. i was able to take my van home again and they problem had been fixed all except the message i still get to this day about my driver door being ajar when it isn't. it didn't do it to me before i took it to the dealership and now they won't fix it when it was a result from them having it. keep in mind each of the 3 times i had to take it in i had to leave it with them for 1-3 days each time! no loan car was offered to me so i was left with no car and i have 3 small children that i have to care for and need transportation for. *jb

Recall # 01 v 262 000/auxiliary a/c blower motor wiring: consumer unable to get the dealer to honor this recall since january 1, 2005. *jb

The vehicle's a/c blower motor failed which resulted in an electrical fire. the vehicle was deemed a total loss. *nm the consumer found out a recall on the vehicle's blower motor and feels that if he was notified the repairs could have been made and the fire prevented. *nm

Strange noise coming from van when i turn, rack and pinions gone bad, ford refuses to do anything and told me that i would never get anything from them for reibursement of repairs and that they don't care what the nhtsa or goverment say. i only have 36,000 miles on my van even though it is a 1999 windstar this should never have happened. for does not care about their reputation or product or consumers. *ak

I really don't know where to begin. we purchased this vehicle used in 2000. the day after purchase it had to be returned to the dealer for electrical problems. the dealership fixed the problems. we noticed a hard shifting right away and inquired about it with the dealership. they said that it was because it had a large engine and we were just not used to it. we drove it for about 18 months when at 60,000 miles the o/d light began flasing. we took it to a ford dealership and was told the transmission went out. we were lucky and had purchased an extended warranty which after many phone calls and complaints finally put in a new transmission. now 2 years and 30,000 later we need another new transmission. the van starting lurching when stopped at a stoplight and then tried to stall. we has also noted a noise that sounds like the whole front end is about to fall out. we also have electrical problems where the light come on and never go off. the a/c-heat, comes on when you start the van and the blower is in the off position. the electric door locks, which are supposed to lock when the car is put in drive, finally lock about 50 miles down the road. after much research on the van and all the problems it has i can't believe that ford will not do something. i guess the lives of the families with children that drives these vans mean nothing to them. i guess it will take the death of someone's children and a heafty lawsuit to finally get some action. my wife is now afraid to even get behind the wheel of our van since it has a tendency to have its failures in the middle of traffic ( guess we are glad it has a five star safety rating). we would get rid of it but have now found out that it has no value either. *ak

The rear ac unit went out around 75k never got it fixed but when we had the car serviced the computer panel was reset and it worked again at 96k. the engine light came on and stayed and we never got it fixed. the gas gauge light came on and we had it fixed at 98k and i don't know the cost. the van was recalled because of the windshield wipers and the rear ac unit. there wasn't no cost.the details of the fire. my wife got out her car for work and about 20 minutes later the fire trucks were there. our adjuster said the fire initiated behind the passenger seat in the ac and heating control panel. the vehicle was totaled on 12 sept. the vehicle had 119k on it now. if there is anything else you like to ask me feel free to. i am really upset with ford on the way they handled this entire situation especially when they know there have been reported fires from recalls located on the web sites. i

Vehicle was parked in the parking lot and without warning vehicle caught on fire from the rear passenger air conditioner unit.*ak

Transmission is primary issue has shifting problem at low speed, has over 8 tsb on the issue and has new transmission installed but still have problem the other issues are clearly common for this model as well, but this transmissionand fords lack of support from their service and dealers is unacceptable.
