I noticed heavy rust scale on ground and inspected to see my spare tire was missing, there is a large hole rusted all the way thru the frame in front of the left rear spring shackle and a crack in the frame in front of the front shackle almost all the way around the channel. further investigation showed all cross members, gas tank strap and bed supports are severely rusted and the right side frame rail following suit with the left frame rail. the remainder of the truck is in very good condition this should not happen to a truck with this age and mileage. *tr

1999 ford ranger with 130,000 miles. leaf springs rusted out (both sides) and mounting brackets also rusted. went to 3 autobody shops and nobody would touch it. bumper just rusted out on both sides and spare tire well is completely rusted. bumper and spare currently being held together with 2, 1900 lb chains. ranger runs fine just body falling apart. very concerned tire, bumper may become dislodged and cause further damage to myself or others. gas tank also rusted but not leaking so far. *tr

Cable attaching spare tire to undercarriage of truck snapped, causing tire to fall into road. i contacted ford with my concern, was told they would not repair this defect due to my truck being out of warranty. *tr

I have had 2 of these tires blow out on me. the first happened about 3 weeks ago when the vehicle was sitting in my driveway. heard a loud boom at 10 minutes to midnight. went outside and found a gash in the tire on the side wall about 5 to 6 inches long. i had though some one had slashed the tire but the police officer said that the tire blew out from the inside. this tire was on the right front of the 99 ford ranger pick up. i had it replaced with the same tire brand and model. the second tire blew out 6/24 while i was driving at 65 mph on interstate 81. this was the left front tire. the side wall has completely separated from the tread. it looks like the separation starts right above the raised white lettering. one of the other 2 original tires has some of the white beginning to show above the white lettering. the tire that was replaced 3 weeks ago is also beginning to have some of the white that is under the black color of the tire show through right above the lettering. i have replaced all the tires on my vehicle with kelly tires. i have the bridgestone tires if you want them. *tr

Dt: the consumer stated that one of the tire on his 1999 ford ranger experienced tread separation. the tire itself remained inflated. the location was the right rear tire. this happened while driving at 70 mph. the consumer has been in contact with firestone. the consumer mailed the tire and other information that the manufacturer requested. firestone did their own investigation and found that it was not their fault, and it was not a defect. the tire was a firestone wilderness ht, p205/75r14. *ak firestone claimed the moisture caused the tread separation. *nm

I bought a 1999 ford ranger on january 31 2003 which has the wilderness at. tires . i took it to the local dealership they said it was my problem they no longer replace those tires ,could you please help they got really hateful said they gave customers a year to get this done ,but i just got the truck.

After having brake job done and tires rotated i was driving highway speed. violent steering wheel jerking occurred. pulled over and called auto repair service who had just worked on vehicle to come inspect. he says nothing they did wrong, belts in tire appear to be separating. not believing, took vehicle to 3rd party who said same thing. original equipment on 1999 for ranger pick up. ford says contact firestone. firestone says that probably isn't what it is but will sell me new firestones with pro-rate for usage. thanks, but no thanks. dt

Consumer notified the dealer and said the tires are beginning to feather causing the tire to spin. ts the tires spin and slip on any surface. *jg

For 3 days in a row i have had all 4 tires and the spare tires, making that 5 tires all together disintegrate. these were the wilderness ht size 14 from firestone. neither ford nor firestone want to be responsible. the steel belts have completely come through the tire and i have cracks and gouges in all 5 tires. noone wants to replace them because they are not part of the recall. i would like to know what the size of the tire has to do with it. obviously the way the tire is made is the problem. if they have to recall any of them than obviously the problem is with firestone. they should step up to the plate and take responsibility instead of trying to blame the consumer for their failures.

Dt: ford motor company refused to replace tires that ford said they would replace at any time. these tires were recalled, and consumer chose not to replace at that time. ford told consumer that he could replace at any time. consumer wasn't notified of any changes that ford made. *tt

I was driving my ford ranger xlt 1999 pickup on a four lane road on 28 july 2001. the road was dry and air temperature was about 80 degrees farenheit. i was traveling at approximately 60 miles an hour when my passenger rear tire blewout. the whole tread separated rom the sidewalls. i took the tire to the firestone dealer and the employee didn't think it was a big issue and offered a replacement for $50. although this tire isn't one of the recalled ones, i feel that the failure i experienced is similar to the wilderness at failures. my concern is that these tires aren't safe. i replace all the tires on my pickup at my expense. fortunately, in this case the road traffic was light and i was able to coast to a stop withou applyin the brakes. the situation might have been differnent had the blowout occured five minutes later when i would have been on interstate 95 driving 70 miles per hour on a crowed road. i am submitting this report because there might be problem with this model of tires. i don't think the firestone dealership did their job and weren't interested in any of the details. dan pietz. *ak (dot number: w2uuipo 10 tiresize: p225/70r15)

Driving on i-17 nb north of carefree hwy at 75 mph. tire made a high pitched noise, which sounded like wind buffeting the truck bed. this lasted for about 10 seconds and then the right rear tire exploded and we were immediately driving on the rim. the entire sidewall separated from the tread. i had previously tried to get the dealer to replace the tires because of excessive vibration at high speed. it felt like the steel belts had separated. they offered to sell me new tires, but refused to replace these. unable to afford new tires i continued to drive with these. i have several pictures of the failed tire.*ak (dot number: w2uu tiresize: p225/70r15)

The front right tire blew out while driving on an interstate. an accident didn't occur, luckily i was able to get off the road without injury. the tire blew out on the side, not on the tread. my ford dealer would not cover the charge of a new tire and refused to hear my concerns. i am concerned because of the firestone wilderness tire problems that have been ongoing and want to make my incident known. i still have the tire for evidence.*ak (tiresize: p22570r15)

Both times the tires just blew out on the highway. the 1st time it caused me to lose control and crash thru a chain link fence. the second time i spun around three times on the highway but no damage happened. i have called firestone and they will not help. they told me that it was a problem with the truck and ford says it is a problem with the tires. the tires before they blow will start thumping and within seconds they fall apart. *ak (tiresize: p225/70/r1)

Sidewall separation typical of other recalled tires. please recall these asap. *ak (tiresize: 225/70r/15)

On may 1,2001 i noticed tread separation on all four tires. itook the vehicle to roberts tire and recapping at 1210 w. state street bristol tenn. a firestone dealer. they checked the tires and stated they could not gurantee that i would get home without tire separation. they said there was no recall and would only prorate the tires. i called firestone customer service and they said there was no recall. i replaced the tires with a set of michelin from sam sneed tire in bristol tenn. i still had approx 40 percent tread left on the firestone tires. i believe the 16 inch wilderness tires will fail as the 15 inch have. *ak (tiresize: p245/75r16)( dot number: tire size: p245/75r16 )

When rotating the tires on our pickup, we noticed cracks/splits on the sidewalls of three of the tires. these tires continue to lose air pressure. we believe this is due to the cracks/splits in the sidewalls. we visited a firestone dealer, who claims the tires are not defective, and will not replace them. *ak (dot number: vd70 tiresize: p245/75r16)

Left a traffic light and was traveling on expressway at about 55 mph. right rear tire blew and i had to pull off and change it. tire appears to have seperated where tread meets sidewall on outside of tire. tread belts in that area are twisted and out of alignment. Was driving with my daughter to my farmhouse in southeastern kansas when my rear passenger side tire just blewout. there are several areas on the tire where the outer rubber appears to have worn off. those areas are white in color. also the drivers side rear tire is showing wear and there are white areas showing up on it also. these tires were not in the recall, but perhaps they should be. i was luckly going at a low rate of speed and no injuries occured and i was able to stop. i have contacted the dealer and am waiting for a reply from them. i look forward to hearing from you soon also. thanks, trent bunn (dot number: w2uuipo468 tiresize: p255/70r15)

On october 4, 2000 my son was traveling at 30 mph on a residential street when his drivers side front tire assembly came off spindle causing him to go out of control and hit a van and a boat that were parked in front of a residence here in midland, texas. the police report that was filed backs up the following statements: while traveling east on stanolind street at 30 mph, in the 4400 block, the 1999 ford ranger's drivers side front wheel disengaged from the spindle causing it to pull left and along side a parked late model chevy van. the ranger had no brakes, and scraped along the entire length of the van, leaving scrape marks and axle grease, and tire rubber residue along the entire length of the van. the ranger hit the fender of the van and since driver was trying to steer away from the wreck, this allowed the front of the ranger to pull to the right back towards the street. at that point the entire "wheel assembly" came off and traveled 4 houses ahead of the now 3-wheeled ranger. after the wheel assembly exited, the knuckle hit the pavement and forced the ranger into the boat which was parked in front of the van. the boat trailer wheels were "chocked" and the impact of the ranger lifted the boat trailer into the driveway next door to where it was parked. when the midland police arrived,we all started discovering the parts lying in the street well before the crash site. it was determined that the hub cap came off first and rolled to the grass on the opposite side (4' north) of the van. the axle dust cover came off next and rolled to the opposite side of the street ( south), even with the boat. the axle bearing and seal were found 20' in front of the van so they probably came out next. the axle nut and keeper were found beside the boat in the grass. the "wheel assembly" referred earlier has everything still attached ( brake line, brake shoe, hub, lugs, caliper, everything!). i have kept these parts for your inspection in my home garage.. *ak

Driving to work at 6:00 am on main street in town at 40 miles an hr when i felt rear drivers side tire blow. immendiately pulled off road and tread was completely pulled away from the tire. put on spare tire and went on to work called local firestone dealer at 8:00 to report incident, they told me to bring it in and they would look at it. when i arrived they checked it and said it was not on the recall list, so they could do nothing about it, they said i would have to purchase a new tire. i questioned them concerning the low mileage and the warrenty that would be on the tire itself, they said i could have hit something and damaged the tire myself therefore, they could not cover the tire under the warrenty. the problem i have with that is that i did not hit anything then or in the past and my rim was not damaged a all, which was very clear to them. when i returned to work i called firestones toll free # direct the cust service rep advised me that since it was not on the recall list they could not do anything at this time, but in future if it did come on the recall list if i kept my tire and receipt they would refund my tire and money. i expressed my concern that i am still driving on the same tires, i was very surprised that i was not shown any concern in regards to this and was told to wait until it showed up on the recall list, i asked her how this got on the recall list she told me to contact this address. she said they do not investigate this, that the nhtsa would take care of it. all i want is for someone to look at my tires and assure me that they are safe and also refund my money considering the low milage that was on a 4 wheel drive truck that is suppose to have heavy duty tires.. 2nd tire on vehicle to saparate front sidewall from entire tread of tire. first was back in august of 1999 before recall had begun. have taken this last tire to 2 dealers and they are unable to determine what caused the tire to separate, but both have said it does not look like a punctured tire. tires did not blow out, but just went flat. sidewalls feel like they have just collapsed! authorized firestone dealer said this is not a currently recalled tire. we think it should be. *ak (dot number: w2kc tiresize: p205/75r14)

Left front tire went suddenly flat. did not shread. upon close look found small cuts or separations inthis flat tire and also in all three of the other tires .felt all should be replaced as i did not trust them. firestone had no interest in talking to me. *ak (tiresize: p245r16)( dot number: tire size: p245r16 )

Recalled firestone wilderness at p235 r15 tires failed, causing rims to bend, consumer wants reimbursement. *slc

I was checking the air in the tires when i noticed visible splits, tears, and peelings on three of the sidewalls. i went to ford they said they could not do anything because they are not under recall and the tire warranty has expired. obviously there is a major problem. i have notified my insurance company of the problem and the local newstation. i do alot of driving but cannot afford to put new tires on right know. if the defects are as visible as they are now why can't anyone do something about it?*ak (tiresize: 75r15 225)( dot number: tire size: 75r15 225 )

Tire sidewall blew out while backing up at slow speed. no evidence of any cut or abrasion on tire. the entire circumference of the tire at the sidewall on both sides appears to be soft and uneven. the remaining tires appear to have the same uneveness around the sidewall. i am aware of the recalls on wilderness at tires but it does not seem to include these 16 inch models. should it? also please note that my vehicle was shipped from the factory with 4 of these tires but the spare was a 15" wilderness at. ford notified me by letter that my tires were not part of the recall. there is clearly something wtrong here. *ak( dot number: tire size: p245/75r16 )

I actually have had 2 tires blow out. once on rear left, once on rear right. on rear left, the tire blew in half.*ak( dot number: tire size: p245/75r16 )
