Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 1999 Ford Ranger

On 20 january 2015, approx 11:30pm while the vehicle was parked in the garage since the previous evening, the vehicle alarm went on it's own. i went and turned it of f and while trying to figure out why, i smelled something burning immediately there was smoke coming from under the hood. i went into action and got the hood open, i saw flames coming from the switch at the end of the master cylinder. i've noticed the switch before, i did not know what it did, i just thought it was part of the braking system. i managed to put out the fire at that point. the switch was completely burned out, the brake fluid reservoir was badly charred but did not burn through (that would have been disastrous). the following day i was searching for a replacement switch (f3ta-9f924-ca) and found out it was called: speed control deactivation switch and has to do with the cruise control system. please note that my vehicle does not have cruise control. i further found out that the switch in question had been the cause or reported to be the cause of numerous vehicle fires while parked and no key in the ignition. i contacted a local ford dealer and was told there were no campaign messages in the oasis reporting (whatever that is). all i know is that the switch caught fired while the vehicle was parked and the web indicates that the switch appears to be the cause of numerous vehicle fires. i was lucky in that i decided to find out why the vehicle alarm went on, had i just turned it off, and gone somewhere else, it would have been disastrous. please look into the switch situation, it appears to be a dangerous situation. your assistance appreciated. *tr

Failure to install fused wiring harness as required by recall 05s28 in reasonable period of time (four months and counting). dealer claims that ford does not have adequate quantities of replaced harnesses in stock. *tr

Recall since august and still no resolution. *tr

Ford has an active recall, begun about 3 months ago, but doesn't have the parts available to fix this problem. at the very least this is extremely poor customer service, at the worst it is fraud - depriving me of the vehicle i originally paid for! this is the recall for cruise control, a feature i use frequently and specifically bought with this model. ford knew they had a problem and they would need the parts to fix it - why don't they have it, or have responsibility for compensating for failing to have it? *tr

I have a recall on a ford ranger 1999 pickup for the speed control. the recall notice was sent to me in august. the part is still unavailable at my local dealer - bitterroot motors and when i call the ford hotline, they also say the part will be unavailable until may or later. i think if this is a safety issue, they should be required to deal with the recall a little sooner than 10 months after they issue the recall. now it is my responsibility to keep calling the ford dealer to find out when i can schedule a repair. they don't keep a list to contact me when they get the part in. *tr

Unable to get recall service performed from local ford dealer. recall # 05s28. *tr

I was sent a recall notice for my truck in august 2007 and the part to repair the problem is still not available on february 4, 2008. *tr

1999 ford ranger sport truck 4 cyl 5 speed stick power steering , brakes, air conditioning , cruise control. once in a while it will accelerate by itself. with foot off of the pedal it will keep accelerating . then it will gradually come back down in speed. i can never tell how long it will last. usually it is a matter of 10-15 seconds it can happen whether the vehicle is hot or cold. it seems to accelerate up to about highway rpms 2500-3000 . it can be a little nerve wrecking. *jb

Incident #1:approaching a stop sign doing approx 10-15 mph. vehicle engine started surging 3-4 times. rpm went up to approx 2100 then the problem went away. foot "did not" slip from brake pedal to gas pedal. if my foot was not on brake vehicle would have shot through the stop sign. incident #2: 11/12/2005: vehicle was moving approx 5 mph in front yard when the engine rpm surged up to approx 2100. had to firmly apply brake or vehicle would have jumped forward. problem lasted aprrox 3-4 seconds. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle suddenly accelerated rapidly while attempting to slow down. the vehicle's engine revved suddenly without warning. the transmission was placed in the neutral position in order to prevent from hitting the vehicle in front. the dealership determined this was a common problem with this vehicle and was caused by faulty wiring chafing from the wiring harness.

All of a sudden the vehicle accelerated on its on. it did it when driving and when pulling off after a stop. vehicle was repaired by replacing the air sensor and the computer at a cost to consumer. *ak

While sitting in traffic the vehicle accelerated without warning and both airbags deployed without contact with another vehicle. the driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer for analysis. *nm

99 v 062 001/cruise speed control cable: vehicle has cut off on five separate occasions while driving at 45 mph , vehicle restarted on each time. dealer and manufacturer have been notified. feel free to provide any further information.*ak

Consumer stated when the engine was hot it was difficult to disengage the clutch . vehicle accelerated to 4000 rpms. when the clutch was engaged engine continued to operate excessively. when driving vehicle did not slow down. manufacturer's recall was issued. however, this vehicle was not included due to vin. the initial problem started some time ago when the cruise control was engaged. the problem ceased for a while. however, consumer was afraid to drive. and had it repaired. *ak

vehicle was going 55mph and the engine started racing. rpm's shot up to 6 on the gauge. vehicle acceleration stop, and there was no throttle control. brakes were not affected. the abs, over drive ,and engine check light illuminated. consumer got to a local gas station and diagnostic reading read rear sensor was malfunctioning. the dealer was not notified. please provide more informtion.*ak

Vehicle is at a complete stop and it will not move. after a while it will start. contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything.*ak consumer also states that the throttle sticks and will hang when applied off idle position. when it unhangs itself a metal sound can be heard from the engine. the problem worsens when engine is hot, and suggests that ford companys are apethetic about the situation and that this is a very serious & dangerous problem. *scc

Ford has a technical service bulletin that describes the "high idle" condition when depressing clutch or shifting gears for the ranger. this should be reevaluated for "recall" action as the throttle position sensor will remain at high rpm while in nuetral unless you place the vehicle back in gear. you can pull up on the accelerator or push it further down in attempt to get it to return to idle but all that does it make the condition worse (high idle is one thing but an engine racing with throttle position sensor thinking accelarator is pushed way down is another). this condition is caused by a poor electrical connection at the wire harness to throttle position sensor. it is a safety recall issue vice a technical service issue.*ak

Vehicle was going 70mph and shut down. speed sensor signals is not to move at low and high speeds. once it shuts down, it can start back up. it cost the consumer $200 to replace speed sensor.*ak transmission failed too. *yh

When applying accelerator pedal will stick. has to press very hard to get vehicle to respond. this happened before, in april 1999. at that time, dealer replaced throttle box. a bolt was stripped and caused throttle cable to stick. this was done under warranty.*ak

While driving then coming to a to stop and vehicle will almost stall without a prior warning, droping the rpm, then coming back up. *ak

While driving at 40 mph vehicle will start to hold that speed. the only way to get it to come down is to shut off motor. consumer does not have cruise control. consumer feels this is unsafe because when shutting motor off there is a loss of power steering and power brakes. *ak

Gas pedal and the brake pedal are too close together and may result in pedal misapplication which could result in a crash. *ak

Vehicle is experiencing problem with engine acceleration whenever vehicle comes to a stop intermittently. vehicle been in/out of dealer shop on four occasions, and problem still reoccurring. *ak

When braking fast vehicle accelerates. consumer indicates that accelerator is too close to the brakes. this may cause an crash if needed to stop suddenly. *ak

Gas pedal sticks, mostly after first starting vehicle, consumer has to step on pedal hard to get it unstuck. then, it will lurch forward, rpms will stay at about 2000 after that. dealer unable to remedy problem. *ak dealer attempted to fix problem, however vehicle is still experiencing sudden acceleration and dealer can not duplicate problem. *slc
