We have classified the 3 complaints from 1999 Ford Ranger about SEAT BELTS into the following categories.
The passenger side front seat belt has been replaced on this vehicle 3 times since nov of 2003. the total mileage driven since that first replacement is 9023. the first replacements were for all 4 seat belts, prior to warranty expiration at 49,499 miles. now the passenger side is failing again after only 2605 miles and ford does not want to warranty the belt because it was replaced 14 months ago. i believe there is a defect in my vehicle or the seat belt design. i do not want to pay for a new seat belt only to have it fail again. *jb
While driving 35 mph consumer's vehicle was involved in a collision. driver's seat belt failed to retract, causing the driver to sustain minor injuries, and was transported to a hospital. vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. *ak
During a 45 mph frontal collision front air bags did not deploy. the seat belt released from the belt buckle. consumer sustained minor injuries, and had the vehicle towed. the dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak
Driver was involved in a crash where driver was wearing seatbelts, and airbag deployed, but driver still received head injuires, including concussion. also, passenger airbag switch was turned off, but airbag still deployed. *ak
When unlatching shoulder belt it will not retract into retractor. this retractor has been replaced 5 times by dealer.*ak
Because the seat belt is mounted to the door frame, when a passenger is belted in the jump seat, passenger's side door is open, the seat belt tightens and pins the passenger into the seat. the problem was reported to the manufacturer. nothing was done to correct the problem. please provide any further details. *ak
Seatbelt will not retract or tighten up. i took truck to dealer 08-06-99, dealer said seatbelt retractor was broken, they would have to order. 08-18, still no word from dealer so i called. they said part on back order from ford. i asked what i was suppose to dosince i was going on vacation. they said it was ford's problem. they also would not give me the name of the regional contact for ford, so i contacted ford customer service. they also verified the part was on back order, but did not know when part would be supplied to dealer as ford did not manufacture part. they said it would be at least the middle of september. i asked if ford would be liable if something happened. she said she could not answer that, but she would put my question in the message to the ford division manager. the call ended.
The front center 2 point seat belt will not remain in the fully adjusted position during normal operation of the vehicle. our grandchildren (mostly 4 and 10 year old boys) will sit in the front center seat and fasten the 2 point seat belt about them; adjust it to the proper length; during travel the child moves about the seat slightly; during this normal movement the seatbelt adjustment will loosen on its own. should an accident occur, the child is not restrained by the seatbelt because of the "self adjusting effect". this condition was reported to the car dealer (don vance), they replaced the seatbelt, and the new seatbelt had the same effect. i reported this condition to ford motor company. a woman contacted me about this. i explained the aforementioned to her. nothing further was done. children are in jeopardy. *ak
