Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2017 Ford Fusion

I went to my car after work and attempted to start it but a shift system fault error occurred and the car began putting the emergency brake on when i tried to shift to park. it would say "shift to park" even when my knob showed that the gear was in park. it would also rotate the knob back to p every now and then when you attempt to shift into a different gear.

My car will not shift into different gears it was parked at my job i go to start it , it cuts on and has all the power it just will not go into drive or neutral i tried resetting it but all the lights just come on will not move

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. the contact stated that while the vehicle was being driven, the transmission started slipping and the parking brake activate simultaneously. the contact also indicated that the transmission torque converter was damaged. the cause of the failures were not determined. the local dealer covert ford (11514 research blvd, austin tx) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 42,000.

While driving. 17. ford. fushion. car slows down while driving. jerking took it in the dealership. they kept it a week. to tell me it had transmission. problems. torque converters. and needed a new transmission was not. cover under warranty i am female and alway drove a ford. car. never had any problems.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the brake light illuminated continuously. the vehicle was taken to heritage ford 2100 sisk rd, modesto, ca 95350, for an oil change and the contact informed the dealer about the failure. the dealer informed the contact brake fluid was put into the vehicle in order to repair the failure. the vehicle was repair however, a day later the failure recurred. the contact mentioned that a whole can of brake fluid was replenished in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they informed the contact the brake line leaked fluid due to the transmission coming into contact with the brake lines. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

I have a 2017 ford fusion, purchased 6 mths ago. i was stationary in a parking lot, when i put it in reverse it immediately threw itself back in park and gave error 'shift system fault service soon'. cycled car on and off several times with the same result. there was no prior warning of any issues. i am reading this is happening to alot of 2017 ford fusions. i am out of warranty, the dealership is fighting me on warranty when i specifically said i would not buy it without one, and i cant afford to fix it. i still owe over $14,000 on this car and just having it 6 mths i am very disappointed. hope this is recalled!

When backing from a parking space, the vehicle would not shift to any gear or neutral. no warning or indication of any problem, it just quit right in the middle of a parking lot. vehicle shifter kept returning to park and would not move! very dangerous. mechanic said the shift cable broke. i see on here that others have had the same issue and there was a recall up to the 2017 models. i think ford needs to recall the 2017 models for the shift cable as well because it's obviously an issue. car has 80k miles. transmission was replaced at 66k miles. 2017 ford fusions are awful and dangerous! do your customers matter, ford?

I have a 2017 ford fusion and the shifter cable bushing came apart causing my car to be stuck in reverse. i could not start my car in a parking lot because the dash showed the car was in reverse although the shifter was in park. my car was towed through ford roadside. i was charged for the tow and the repair through ford. i was told by ford customer service that none of this is covered by the recall 19s16. currently the recall is for 2013-2016 cars. my car was made at the same hermosillo mexico plant as the other cars with the recall. it would have been manufactured in 2016. this is a safety issue and my car could have rolled away in park causing injury. a new plastic bushing was installed on the shifter cable but i'm worried in another two years the same thing will happen after wear.

77k miles, shift system fault while vehicle in use, trying to change from reverse to drive on a downtown city street. gear selector knob returns to park from selecting reverse, or drive. ford fusion is not operable and had to be towed. reviewed previous incident reports for 2017 model identifying plastic bushing holding the shift link cable to the transmission failing. ford fusion model 2016 and earlier recalls for the same plastic bushing failure, along with my wife's 2014 ford escape having a recall for the same plastic bushing. why does this defective plastic bushing remain in use after years of recalls?

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. while driving approximately 55 mph through a busy intersection, the vehicle suddenly decelerated and stalled. after turning the engine off and back on, the "shift system faulty" message was displayed. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home and an independent mechanic diagnosed that the shift cable connector was fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. pioneer ford (150 hwy 27 north bypass, bremen, ga 30110) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.

My car will not say in gear it will continue to go in park no matter what gear it's in. i was on the city street when that happen. it took me about 30 minutes for it to do anything. once i got it parked it did it again. on the screen it said shift system fault. at one point it was stuck in reverse. they are telling me it's not a recall on that when it should be. i could've been driving on major highway when it had changed gear. my kids and i could've got seriously hurt.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle shifted from drive into reverse without warning and the parking brake message was displayed. the vehicle was taken to robin ford inc. (100 n macdade blvd, glenolden, pa 19036, (610) 586-3600), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 76,000.

I have a 2017 ford fusion. my issue is the the shifter link cable. there is a little plastic bushing that holds the cable to the transmission that allows you to shift from park to neutral reverse and drive. well mine broke and i'm glad it was in park. if it wasn't in park i would have no way to even get it in park not atkeast by myself anyway. when i would try to change gears i got a warning message that said shift system fault service required! it took me forever to figure out what was wrong. after further doing more research i found out that the 13-16 fusions had this issue and were recalled. i found the part number from ford which is dg92-7k340-a. i took it to forward and told them the issue and they said there was a recall for it so i have them my vin number and they said that there's no recall for the 2017 fusion that they fixed the issue with them. well obviously not! the guy tried telling me i needed to buy the whole cable to fix it. which i knew better i gave him the part number and they had a big box of the bushings sitting on the desk took it home and fixed it in like 5min. i'm glad i was home when it happened and not driving because if so my vehicle wouldn't go into park or any gear for that matter.

On july 22, 2019, i attempted to back out of a parking space, but the car would not go in reverse, it kept turning back to park. the message on the dash said shift system fault, call geico to have it towed took 2 hours for the tow truck driver to get car on the truck because it would not shift, he called ford dealership service dept to see if any of them could tell him what to do, he talked to (eight) techs and not one knew the answer, anyways, they told me the problems was with the shift knob and transmission and it would cost $545 to repair and it is not under warranty. and even though the 2013-2016 ford fusions has a recall for the same problem, they can't do anything about my 2017. which is not right.

Update to complaint 11229418 posted 7/4/19 car stayed in shop for a week. replaced input shaft, fluid pump, filter, valve body, solenoid body, torque converter, and any associated gaskets and hardware car is going back to the shop tomorrow due to it shifting harder than before. safety park feature no longer works either. can hear hard shifting when changing from park, revere, and drive. reverse is the worst and car shakes with each gear selection. moves hard as if i hit something when placing into park.

Shift sys fault i was reversing when my car shifted back into park and would not go into drive or neutral. when tried it goes right back to park.

Vehicle was parked and when turned on the check engine light came on. while driving around 45 mph , the power train light came on. took vehicle into dealership and was informed i needed a new torque converter. waiting to hear back on if they have found the part, as they couldn't the day i took it in. vehicle only has 24k miles on it. i do not know if the previous recall regarding this part was fixed or not because it was prior to the day i bought the car.

Approximately a week ago i noticed my veh was cutting out and losing power on slow acceleration around 30-40 mph as the gears were shifting. took the veh to a ford dealership and they said the transmission fluid smells burnt and is dark. they said the clutch is breaking apart and they said i need an entire new transmission. the veh only has 66k miles on it.

I had to take my vehicle to the nearest ford dealership yesterday because i was getting an error message on my dash stating "shift system fault - service soon." i was not able to put my car in reverse or neutral and when trying to do so, the park brake was automatically applied. i was able to drive it to the dealership and was told the the shifter cable bushing had came a part which will cost over $315 to be fixed. i read online that ford recalled over 500,000 fusions (2013-2016) and escapes for the same exact reason. will ford be issuing another recall on the newer model cars? i'm having to come out pocket for a problem that has been an issue with other vehicles in the past. as soon as i get the final receipt from the dealership, i will happily upload it.

While driving the vehicle three block from my house the engine shut down and would not re-start. i pushed it into a parking lot and attempted to jump start it with no luck. i had it towed to airport marina ford 5880 w. centinela ave, los angeles, ca. 90045. my vehicle has been at ford service for three days and they have not been able to figure out the issue. the service advisor said they problem may be caused by the high voltage regulator or the transmission. my vehicle only has approximately 52,000 miles.

So, i have complained to ford on 3 separate occasions about my gear shift malfunctioning. when i put it into drive, the gear will go back into park and start flashing. or it will start driving and go back into park after moving. it's crazy. then, ford service has told me multiple times that they can't find anything wrong. now there is a recall for the exact same issue. i even had wanted them to take the car back because i didn't feel safe, but they said it hadn't been long enough and they couldn't find anything wrong. again, now there is a recall for the exact issue. also, my windows roll back down after i roll them up. they will do this several times until they stop. again, ford said they can't find anything wrong.

I attempted to brake but the engine started racing. the only way to stop it was to throw it into park, i turned the engine off and it restarted it. the engine raced again and the only way to stop it before it hit another car was to turn the car off since the brakes could not override the racing engine. i restarted the car again and the engine was fine. it has run fine for the last 100 miles. the dealer could find nothing wrong when i brought the car in .

Vehicle stuck in neutral won't shift gears

Primary concern: car loses all propulsion and goes into accesory mode when accelerating. i, as well as several others with 2017 ford fusion sport models, have lost total power while leaving red lights, stop signs, and worst of all, merging onto the highway. my car died under normal acceleration while attempting to merge on the highway, and while pulling away from a stop sign, on two different occasions, months apart from each other. a member of our facebook group of fusion sport owners captured his car lose all power, on video, and his car is being bought back by ford, but that is not enough. these cars, although fun and enjoyable, pose a serious threat to not only the owners of the car, but also to other drivers on the road who could hit us from behind, injuring of killing passengers in either vehicle, or vehicles nearby. this car needs to be recalled and removed from the road. here is his video: https://youtu.be/nlnn0hkrhtg

I first noticed when i was in reverse the car stalled then a wrench tool appeared on the dashboard. i put the car in park then proceeded to shift to drive and drove off. that occurred sporadically until 12/14/2018 when a shiftsysfault appeared on the dashboard. i started to drive out of a parking lot after i put the car in reverse but the gear shifted to park on it's own as i was driving. both me n my passenger tried shifting the gear without success. i tried overriding the gear according to the manual and youtube video but it would not come out of park. continuously shifting to park from neutral, reverse and drive on it's own which caused me to pay for a tow truck to get home. once home i was able to put the car in neutral then drive so i could park it better however a neighbor attempted to override the computer by unplugging the battery then reattaching it when another alert appeared saying engine coolant was at a high temperature after the car had been off for 2hrs. the car was towed to the dealership the next day and i'm waiting for a response on servicing.

Automatic transmission shift stuck in park. attempted to override per users manual and ford dealership service technician with negative results. the vehicle was stationary and had been shutdown. this occurred when attempting to drive the vehicle after starting it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. while the vehicle was stationary with the brake pedal depressed, the transmission failed. the contact attempted to place the vehicle in the drive position and the gear became stuck in the park position. also, the "shift system fault, see manual" message appeared. the vehicle was towed to five star ford stone mountain (3800 us-78, snellville, georgia 30039, (678) 384-4242) where it was diagnosed that the cable bushing within the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. in addition, the dealer referenced nhtsa campaign number: 18v471000 (power train) as a potential cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. the contact stated that the gear shifter failed to engage into gear. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to landers ford (223 east goodman rd, southaven, ms 38671, 662-349-7004), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 110,000.

On may 13, 2017 or there about my 2017 ford fusion from a stopped during take off accelerated very fast almost causing me to run into the rear of another vehicle. on may 15, 2017 i took my car in for service and told technician about it. he could not find a problem. again on september 20, 2017 i took my car in specifically to have the acceleration problem checked out and again no problem was found. i was told to bring the vehicle in soon as it happened. on october 10, 2017 taking off from a stationary position i took off after light turned green and the car just took off accelerating in a curve causing me to loose control and i ran into a tree.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was a sudden loss of power, various warning indicators and gauges illuminated on the instrument panel, and the vehicle stalled. the contact made several attempts to restart the vehicle and maneuver the gear shifter from the park position, but it was extremely difficult. the vehicle was cautiously driven to crater lake ford lincoln (2611 biddle rd, medford, or 97504, (541) 887-6176). an appointment was made to have the vehicle diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were not available.

Received the vehicle with approx 64 miles on it in aug 17. at 70 miles, i was stopped at a stop sign, went to pull through and the engine made a funny sound and then the car lost power. when i attempted to accelerate, the engine reved high before there was movement of the vehicle. shut the car off and turned it back on and the orange wrench light was illuminated. car had no power and had to limp it to a parking lot. car was taken to a dealer and i was informed they replaced the sensor. now a year later (13 aug 18) with approx 4k miles on the vehicle, i have the same problem. orange wrench light and no power. this time the vehicle was going up a hill at 10 mph and the engine "clunked", lost power. waiting on a tow to the dealer for "repair". thankfully the car is under warranty however, this should not have happened to a vehicle with 70 miles and again at 4k miles. i hope ford takes notice of this problem. i'm glad these events happened in city conditions and not while i was on the highway.

In may 2017 my ford fusion sport lost power to the wheels while accelerating, i was able to brake and coast to a stop on the side of the road. turned vehicle off and issue went away. took car to bob rorhman dealership in schaumburg il, ford and dealership states ntf, no trouble found, ford corporate service managers also said ntf, case file 12313619-n2s9x3. on august 7th, 2018 the issue happened again as i was leaving work, i accelerated and car went into limp mode. i proceeded to the side of the road as i was getting honked at by other drivers, turned car off and on and the issue went away. i opened a new case file with ford cas15469320 on 8/9/2018. the etb has been an issue in the past, reference 'customer satisfaction program (13n03)'. i deem this a critical safety concern, if i was a ford engineer on my fmea this failure mode severity is a 10, i work in automotive. i have photos and videos of the incident.

On friday, june 29th 2018, i remote started my car and when i got inside the car i was presented with the wrench icon and it said to see the manual. i checked the manual and it said that it had something to do with a powertrain fault. light went off about 3-5 later. as i was driving, i came to a red light and when it turned green, i gave it gas and the car wanted to stall (rpm levels dropped to 500 or lower rpm). it did it again the same day, but at a later time. also, when i start braking the car's rpm levels goes up to 3-4k rpms when braking from 70mph and when braking from 40mph. occasionally it did it at different speeds. i have proof on video, but can't upload them here due to format.

Tl* the contact was driving a 2017 ford fusion. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle lost power. there were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (autonation ford white bear lake, 1493 co rd e east, white bear lake, mn 55110) where it was awaiting diagnostic testing and repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 14,600. *tt

Car was accelerating on the highway at about 50 mph and out of no where car shifts very hard and all power is lost. had to limp to the side of the highway and shut it off. this was very dangerous. after a restart it seemed to act fine until today when the same thing happened on a local road at about 20 mph.

Driving on road roughly 40 mph and vehicle completely lost power. car lost power and started slowing down. error message on the dash "full accessory power active:. needed to immediately pull off to the right of the road in order to avoid traffic. this is a serious issue.

Car shut off while stopped at a red light with no warning and then when i went to resume driving the car said it was in accessory mode. i started to roll back as i took my foot off the brake. i was able to turn off the car and restart it. i pulled over for a little while and stopped and restarted the vehicle several times before feeling safe to proceed. there were several other cars behind me when this occurred and i am thankful i did not roll back into one of them. i took it to the dealership and they were unable to tell me what caused this problem. they said there were unaware of any issues like this. i however had an issue with the transmission as well that was causing a harsh shift that i was taking the car in for repairs for. there is only 10821 miles on this vehicle and it is still under warranty. the dealership had my vehicle for 2 weeks and has replaced the clutches, seals, and bushing according to the report we received. i do not feel as though a new car should have transmission issues this soon. i am concerned if others would find the same issues with the new fusion sport.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle pulled to the left and swayed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. before making an appointment with sheehy ford of marlow heights (5000 auth rd, marlow heights, md 20746 (301) 423-4950), the vehicle started pulling to the right. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the tires needed air. another technician diagnosed the vehicle and revealed that the front camber and rear toe failed. the repairs needed were unknown and the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was also taken for a test drive, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to make an appointment with the local dealer. the contact stated that the gear shift also started to shift inadvertently from drive to neutral. the vehicle was taken back to sheehy ford of marlow, but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was notified once again and informed the contact to make an appointment. on november 1, 2017, while driving 25 mph, the vehicle shifted to the right, struck two other vehicles, flipped over, and landed on its roof. all of the air bags deployed. the contact sustained bruises all over the body and injuries to the neck, back, left hip, both shoulders, and both knees. the contact was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a tow lot and was awaiting inspection from the insurance company. the manufacturer was notified and a case was opened. the initial failure mileage was approximately 15 and the crash occurred at approximately 3,200 miles.

In july 2017 i purchased a 2017 ford fusion sport with the 2.7 v6 within 300 miles the vehicle stalled on a hill and the car started to roll backwards. i made an appointment and brought the car into the dealership i bought it from. they scanned the car and no codes came up and said there is nothing they can do without a code. i took the car and continued to drive it. it stalled several more times, brought it in again and no codes. they told me ford would not approve any repairs on this vehicle without having a code and a confirmed issue. i've been driving around in a death trap that could kill myself or someone else and ford won't help. i found on an online group other people have had this issue and have not gotten it resolved by ford. there are other issues with this vehicle to. but the stalling is unacceptable. the lemon law for my state says i must let have the chance to fix the car to qualify but the is no trace left behind after stalling therefore ford has nothing to repair. this vehicle is not safe to drive. do not buy!

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the shift modem failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 7,000.

My car, with 2k miles, would not start (push button start, this is the plug-in hybrid "energi" model). after being towed to a dealer, they had to tear the car apart to find a bad wiring harness as part of the hybrid system. this part was unavailable, and i am having to wait over 5 days to have the car repaired. in addition, the manufacturer has not provided any alternate transportation and instead tried to get me to buy an extended warranty. horrible customer support from ford. this is a safety fix, and the car itself just wouldn't run. to not take care of the customer or have the ability to quickly get a part is unacceptable. wiring harnesses should not fail in 5 weeks and 2k miles. the car drove one mile, then would not restart. it only complained to "get off the road soon". a failure of what should be a very basic part at 2k miles is concerning, not to mention the inability of ford to repair it in quick fashion. this does make me wonder if the problem is more widespread and so parts are hard to come by.
