Ford sync 3 "apim" failure. the module controlling the infotainment system in the car failed after a software update to version 3.0. happened 7 days past and 6000mi before warranty expired with ford unwilling to cover any of the cost. after apim replacement battery also failed. aftermarket sellers of apim's acknowledge high failure rate on 1st gen (2016-17) apims.
2017 fusion is once again back at the dealer to make a third attempt to find why the battery is being drained. each time 10/dec/18, 11/jan/19, and 18/aug/19 the vehicle did not start it was parked in our garage. it also took hours to recharge the battery to get it started to drive it back to the dealer each time. it is unbelievable to us that ford does not recall these cars.
Mechanic states...power citic draw is causing car to lose power at any given time. car needs to be jump started to run; we just purchased the vehicle 3monthds prior from drive time & were not aware of this problem. the vehicle is not drivable.
Driving car one day and turn signals failed to function when preparing to make a turn in town. checked fuses and bulbs and all were good. tried the left turn signal and it was not working either. also noticed wipers and none of the steering wheel controls were operational.
Lost all electrical while driving, headlights, engine died, all at speed on a busy highway at night.we have been experiencing minor electrical defects/glitches in the past month.windows going up and down if you touch the window switch. driver needs to rest alarm every 5 minutes at times..it just has some sort of electrical glitch.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. on several occasions, while driving between 30 and 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to manley's belvidere ford lincoln (1800 n state st, belvidere, il 61008, (815) 544-2138) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. the contact was informed that a software update was performed; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: cas-22298025. the approximate failure mileage was 21,108.
While driving the vehicle three block from my house the engine shut down and would not re-start. i pushed it into a parking lot and attempted to jump start it with no luck. i had it towed to airport marina ford 5880 w. centinela ave, los angeles, ca. 90045. my vehicle has been at ford service for three days and they have not been able to figure out the issue. the service advisor said they problem may be caused by the high voltage regulator or the transmission. my vehicle only has approximately 52,000 miles.
So, i have complained to ford on 3 separate occasions about my gear shift malfunctioning. when i put it into drive, the gear will go back into park and start flashing. or it will start driving and go back into park after moving. it's crazy. then, ford service has told me multiple times that they can't find anything wrong. now there is a recall for the exact same issue. i even had wanted them to take the car back because i didn't feel safe, but they said it hadn't been long enough and they couldn't find anything wrong. again, now there is a recall for the exact issue. also, my windows roll back down after i roll them up. they will do this several times until they stop. again, ford said they can't find anything wrong.
The windows go up and down by themselves and you can't put them up all the way or they will go back down by themselves and their is some kind of interference in the electrical system that comes through the stereo and lights. and this same problems happened 2 time's before this date below so it happened 3 times
I have had my battery replaced a number of times my car loses power often has to be jump started. the cruise control activates itself speeding me up and slowing me down and the radio no longer works actually none of the controls on the steering wheel and or the radio work
Primary concern: car loses all propulsion and goes into accesory mode when accelerating. i, as well as several others with 2017 ford fusion sport models, have lost total power while leaving red lights, stop signs, and worst of all, merging onto the highway. my car died under normal acceleration while attempting to merge on the highway, and while pulling away from a stop sign, on two different occasions, months apart from each other. a member of our facebook group of fusion sport owners captured his car lose all power, on video, and his car is being bought back by ford, but that is not enough. these cars, although fun and enjoyable, pose a serious threat to not only the owners of the car, but also to other drivers on the road who could hit us from behind, injuring of killing passengers in either vehicle, or vehicles nearby. this car needs to be recalled and removed from the road. here is his video: https://youtu.be/nlnn0hkrhtg
I had driven the car the previous day and parked it in my driveway and the car was completely dead the next morning. i had replaced the battery only 4 months prior. it was a new battery. i took it to the ford dealership in upland and they tested starting and charging system circuits-charge-test nothing came up. i had charged the battery earlier that day to get the car to the dealership. this is the second time the car had completely discharged the battery and both times there was nothing wrong with the battery.
Takata recall this car does not have reliable breaks i was in an accident on 12/26/18. i applied the brakes and nothing happened. now i'm left with being responsible for this . and the steering wheel airbag blew smoke in my face and this car has two open recalls and it's a rental through hertz
Randomly upon starting the car none of the dashboard controls work including hvac controls, radio or window controls, memory seats also.
I was backing out of my driveway and the car did not go more than 10 feet backwards when the whole system shut down and had to restart. it took more than 10 minutes to restart and it took 3-4 times of putting on the brake and pushing the start button before the system would re-initiate. this was the second time the car had done this and the whole system and to re-start. i took it to the ford dealership in upland, ca and they did a system/charging circuits-charge-test and nothing came from the test. the car is still under warranty but since they did not find anything it cost me $ 95.
Almost everytime i put my car into reverse, it puts itself back to park. it happens sometimes when i put it into drive- it will put itself back into park.i took it to the dealership and they replaced the actuator, but it is still doing it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was a sudden loss of power, various warning indicators and gauges illuminated on the instrument panel, and the vehicle stalled. the contact made several attempts to restart the vehicle and maneuver the gear shifter from the park position, but it was extremely difficult. the vehicle was cautiously driven to crater lake ford lincoln (2611 biddle rd, medford, or 97504, (541) 887-6176). an appointment was made to have the vehicle diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
In may 2017 my ford fusion sport lost power to the wheels while accelerating, i was able to brake and coast to a stop on the side of the road. turned vehicle off and issue went away. took car to bob rorhman dealership in schaumburg il, ford and dealership states ntf, no trouble found, ford corporate service managers also said ntf, case file 12313619-n2s9x3. on august 7th, 2018 the issue happened again as i was leaving work, i accelerated and car went into limp mode. i proceeded to the side of the road as i was getting honked at by other drivers, turned car off and on and the issue went away. i opened a new case file with ford cas15469320 on 8/9/2018. the etb has been an issue in the past, reference 'customer satisfaction program (13n03)'. i deem this a critical safety concern, if i was a ford engineer on my fmea this failure mode severity is a 10, i work in automotive. i have photos and videos of the incident.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost power, but was able to restart on the third attempt. the vehicle was taken to cowls parkway ford (13779 noble wood plaza, woodbridge, va 22193, (703)-986-5500) for diagnostic testing, but no failures were found. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 13,634. *tt
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle's windows and the climate control feature became inoperable. as a result, during inclement weather, the windows and windshield could not be defogged, which made it difficult for the contact to drive. in addition, the tmp fault warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 60,446.
The front driver side and passenger side windows will not close fully on occasion. if you try rolling the window up it will automatically roll back down to about halfway to 2/3 open. i tried to get this issue corrected at he dealership once. the mechanics refused to log the issue and 'recalibrated' the window in a few seconds. the problem persists. it is a safety issue in my opinion because passengers and drivers cannot close the window in case of emergencies. this has been ongoing since last year.
Ford fusion 2017 has lost all electrical power while driving at highway speed. brought car in to be checked at the dealership. i was told nothing was wrong and that it was safe to drive. however losing power at 55 miles an hour cannot be something that is safe.
While trying to use auto in windows the window would go up then right back down sis it like 17 times back to back. also after shutting car off while sitting in the car it pushed the lock button and received a message saying something about switches
My car windows will go up and then automatic come back down. the radio switchs channels on its own. the car stalls out and won't start. this has happen and gotten repaired more than 6 times in the last 1.5 years. it has happened again this pass weekend. my local ford dealership is going to fix again. as of now i am paying for a car that ford keeps saying does not fit under the maryland lemon law. this car clearly has some serious electrical issues that ford does not even understand. i am putting the latest date on it, but it has happen multiple times in the last year and a half. these problems occur while driving or stopped at a light or parked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. when the vehicle was started, it would stall. the contact stated that the vehicle was able to start after several attempts. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (thoroughbred ford, 8501 north boardwalk avenue, kansas city, mo 64154, (866)-434-6143), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 13,000.
My 2017 fusion has completely stalled on 2 different occasions while driving. the latest incident occurred on 3/4/18. as i proceeded to make a left turn at a busy intersection..the car shut off with no warning. we were almost rear ended by another person. the car would not start until someone gave us a boost. my hazards were also ineffective. my car stayed at the bronde ford dealership for 4 days and they said that there were no codes so there are no problems. my child and i were in grave danger and still in danger because they can't find a solution. i'm terrified to drive with my baby.
Driving on road roughly 40 mph and vehicle completely lost power. car lost power and started slowing down. error message on the dash "full accessory power active:. needed to immediately pull off to the right of the road in order to avoid traffic. this is a serious issue.
Just after leaving dealership for the cars first oil change, the car no longer has blinkers, wipers (except fast speed) and all steering wheel controls are inactive.
Have had car for just one year 18676 miles and it has turned off randomly 3 times during this time. randomly under light driving conditions while making a turn the car looses power and when you look at the dash it says full accessory like you just pushed the button with out touching the brake to start. once coasted to a safe location you can restart the car and everything runs fine. no codes are logged when this issue occurs. this could be a serious issue as you have no warning when it happens and it leaves the car without power.
I have owned my ford fusion since march 2017. twice since june 2017 i have come out to a car that will not start. the first time this occurred wthere was no way for us to manually jump the car due to the plastic guard had not been removed. it took 2 days for maintenance to replace the battery and that was all that was diagnosed. august 27, 2017, again my car would not start nor were we able to jump it.
Since purchasing the car in january of 2017 i have not been able to connect my smartphone to the navigation system on the screen it will work sometimes even though i download the appropriate apps for my phone it will not connect. i have taken the car in 3 different occasions to ford of montebello and the problem persists. the touchscreen also has flickered and turn on off numerous times while i was driving the car. both of my front driver side window and passenger window have had a tendency to not roll all the way up and at the same time rolled down and then they would start doing it repeatedly until i turn the car off open my driver side door turn the car back on and then it would stop.
Battery discharges when car is parked for more than a day. this has happened regularly since the vehicle was new.
This is a follow up to complaint no. 11010655 (ford case no. cas12754117). on the morning of 7/26/2017, after the vehicle was parked in a driveway overnight, i started the vehicle as a test to ensure it would start later for my spouse. it started fine. when she tried to start it later and it would not start. i then tried to start it again. it would not start and the lights flashed on the dashboard. (both the service techs at faith ford and durand ford said this indicated a low voltage situation.) i had the vehicle towed to durand ford. it started fine. service at durand (a) switched out the battery for a new battery and (b) verified that the audio control module had been updated to its latest version [a problem noted on carcomplaints.com]. while the vehicle was at durand ford from 7/27/2017 until 8/3/2017, it did not fail to start, even after being parked for a few days.
At 1884 miles, vehicle would not start. when jump started, check engine light was on. retrieved codes for "almost every module" had low voltage. battery was charged and codes were cleared. service tech says there are no service memos or recalls. it appears 14 complaints of dead battery on this make/model were filed on carcomplaints.com: https://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/fusion/2017/electrical/dead_battery.shtml
We bought this vehicle brand new and we had this problem since day one at deliver, the vehicle had more batteries than days in my driveway.
I've had battery failure on 4 occasions within a month of purchasing the vehicle and the battery has been replaced but the issue remains. this is a known issue with the fusion as i've read in many blogs online and complaints on nhtsa website but ford has yet to issue a tsa or recall.
I purchased this car on 8/31/16 and on 11/28/16 the dreaded dead battery problems started. i took in it, they replaced the battery on 11/28 said that it was probably just a faulty battery from the manufacture and that it happens, rarely but it happens. on 12/31/17 i went to start my car and it again would not start. each time that this has happened, i have to manually unlock my car by taking off a piece of the door handle to expose the key hole and the dome lights or dash lights do not come on, that's my dead giveaway that it wont start. when i took it to the shop this time they informed me that the car was manufactured on 8/1/16 and sat too long without being driven so it caused the battery to mess up(even though i had the battery replaced a month earlier, and drive every single day to work). i got the car back and i bet you cant guess what happened on 2/4/17... my car was dead. wouldn't start, wouldn't unlock... dead. this time they we're "99.9% sure" they fixed the problem by updating my power train control module. they hadn't, it died again on 5/22/17. when i took it in, they updated the powertrain control module and sent me on my way, so i'm just waiting for it to die again honestly. then... i told them my transmission is slipping on 5/22/17- they ignored it when doing updates and it wasn't resolved. on 6/13/17 i took it in because the transmission was still slipping so they updated the powertrain control module again... didn't fix it(obviously) and then on 6/22/17 i took it in because i almost got into an accident due to the transmission slipping and sliding my car into oncoming traffic trying to shirt gears(its automatic) and they replaced a pressure valve, not sure why you would need to replace a part like that on a brand new car anyway, but the transmission still acts up.
The vehicle was parked in a grocery store parking lot for approximately 30 minutes. upon (trying) to leave, the vehicle would not shift out of park. all other systems were functioning normally. there were 3 or 4 warnings displayed across the dashboard however, these did not register in the computer system. the reset options provided in the owner's manual were not effective in resolving the issue therefore, the vehicle needed to be towed to the dealership. also, according to the dealership, the vehicle did not repeat the problem the next day. eventually it was determined that an actuator module needed to be replaced. this, on a car with just over 2100 miles on it.....
Car was parked for 9 days in an enclosed structure at an airport. upon return, the battery was completely dead. got a "jump" to get engine started. ran car for 15 minutes to charge battery. took car to a ford dealer. they said they "flashed" some computer, and they think they fixed it.
Took car to the dealer the third time for a problem with the one touch feature with the front car windows . called on 4/25/2017 and talked to repair dept. at glenn ford; he explain his remedy about the switch up til clicking; utube had similar but doesn't work on mine. he search for service bulletins and indicated something new ..reprogram.set an appoint next day at 10am . arrived at 9:55 am and was rtold they were running behind. later at 10:20 they pulled the car into the back lot. i immediately went to dan ,the service advisor, and asked for my keys since i had an appointment for !0:00am and evidently my problem ,3rd time ,wasn't important to them and that i would go to another dealer. he said they were bringing it right in. 10:45 said mechanic was downloading a new fix that was just received. 11:00 am i peered into the shop and the window still was not working properly. 11:15 he came and the fix didn't wotk and let me drive off and said he would be in touch. no copy of work done. needless to say after 3 months; i can't believe ford egineers can get a software bug repair or a temporary work around. i think i'll ash for extended warranty on my cars windows as much as they have been over-used trying to repair ;just hope i don't get rain damage since at times it is very difficult to get "almost" closed before the windows automatically reverse and go down.this happens any time intermittently and rotates between the driver and passenger windows.
There is a well-documented issue about dead batteries in this vehicle, likely caused by a faulty acm (audio control module). there are hundreds of posts about this over the web, some of which can be found here: http://www.fusionsportforums.com/forum/257-fusion-v6-sport-audio-electronics-lighting/3770-dead-battery-93.html high-level complaint: battery is dead after sitting for 8 hours every single day on a new vehicle with less than 3000 miles. unacceptable!
The driverside/passenger side windows go up and then comes right back down automatically. when you try to make the windows stay up they come back down. i tried to do it when the car was moving and stationery.
Ford egineers are working on a window problem . when the windows tries to close ,as it hit the top, it immediately goes back down. been to shop 2 times with the drivers window and the latest was with both front windows. temporary solution is too ease it up a little at a bit at a time
2017 ford fusion hybrid - driver's window will not stay closed. it does not matter if the car is parked or being driven. when the power window button is pulled to close the window, it will start and then stop when released. if the button is pulled again, the window will travel all the way up as if it is going to close and the open so that it is open 3/4 of the way. it is as if the window came in contact with something and then reopened automatically as if to prevent trapping a hand or arm. the net effect is that the car cannot be secured or driven in inclement weather without putting a plastic back over the window area of the door -- thus obstructing the driver's view to the left.
Dead battery issue. brand new car sitting for 6 days has battery go below "minimum start" and when start button is pressed, entire car goes dead. issue is not isolated to only my car. many owners have experienced this problem only to be told that it's "not a problem". the ford fusion sport forum has tons of people complaining (http://www.fusionsportforums.com/forum/257-fusion-v6-sport-audio-electronics-lighting/3770-dead-battery.html). when i contacted ford corporate customer service, i was told that there are no "recalls nor technical service bulletins" issued on this problem and to lodge a complaint with the nhtsa. this issue is safety related because owners can be stranded away from home; and this problem happens continuously. problem occurrence: this problem will occur if the vehicle is parked, shut off, and not used for 3 or more days. suspected issue: as an it professional, i surmise the problem's origin is based on the car having a modem that needs to "ping" and communicate with the fordpass app on a continual basis (their selling point is that the car can be located anywhere if it's stolen). and just like a cell phone, if the car is parked in an area with only one bar of cell service, the unit must use more and more power to ping the cell tower, thusly draining the car's battery at exorbitantly high rates. couple this with the fact that the car's battery is not a deep cycle high cca model, and your left with uncertainty that your car will start the next morning. *tr
Issue 1: fmvss critical safety issue. intermittent total failure of climate control system, including failure of defogger causing obstructed visibility in cold climates (vehicle is based in metropolitan detroit). the failure is both electrical and mechanical. neither the touch screen nor the physical console buttons respond to commands. after second intermittent failure, the vehicle was parked overnight in an attached home garage. after ignition, defogger functioned, but no other climate functions worked. defogger emitted a burning smell akin to a campfire. forced to drive with such conditions to work to maintain visibility. issue 2: possible fmvss safety issue. intermittent failure of the audio system, including snyc commands. touchscreen (both on the home screen and on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen) and physical buttons do not respond when audio buttons are pressed. when this happens, sync does not respond. although bluetooth is active, occupants cannot hear the dialed party, and the dialed party cannot hear the occupants. since sync is tied into 911 system for crashes, this will prevent occupants from engaging with 911 operators hands-free in an accident. if occupants cannot reach/manipulate phone in a crash, they may be unable to call for help. issue 3: intermittent rear camera failure. after rainfall and frost events, the rear camera does not engage when the vehicle is placed in reverse gear. the screen is black, except for an outline of the vehicle. the radar sensors remain active and beeps if the vehicle is close to backing into an object. after a period of dryness, the camera re-engages. i assume there is a moisture intrusion problem, but am unable to identify the entry point. online searches suggest that moisture may be intruding through the factory-installed, roof-mounted antenna.
I am filing this complaint for my sister (she does not have a computer) who has found her ford fusion with a dead battery seven times, starting three days after purchase. on four occasions it was taken to the dealer for service, three other times jump-started by her neighbor so she could get to doctor's appointments. due to health problems, she cannot afford to miss these appointments. apparently, this dead-battery issue is a widespread problem with the fusions. in january 2018 ford admitted there is a battery draining problem and instructed her to have the pcm reprogrammed (attachment 2). it did not solve the problem. the dealer cannot find the source of the draining. in her case the battery was found dead after sitting stationary in each instance. this problem will happen again and again. the next time, she will file a lemon law case. ford should be required to recall all of the fusions to fix this problem, which substantially affects safety, use and market value of the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford fusion. while attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to start. the contact stated that the battery had completely failed. the failure recurred two more times. the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 700.
My car, with 2k miles, would not start (push button start, this is the plug-in hybrid "energi" model). after being towed to a dealer, they had to tear the car apart to find a bad wiring harness as part of the hybrid system. this part was unavailable, and i am having to wait over 5 days to have the car repaired. in addition, the manufacturer has not provided any alternate transportation and instead tried to get me to buy an extended warranty. horrible customer support from ford. this is a safety fix, and the car itself just wouldn't run. to not take care of the customer or have the ability to quickly get a part is unacceptable. wiring harnesses should not fail in 5 weeks and 2k miles. the car drove one mile, then would not restart. it only complained to "get off the road soon". a failure of what should be a very basic part at 2k miles is concerning, not to mention the inability of ford to repair it in quick fashion. this does make me wonder if the problem is more widespread and so parts are hard to come by.
