On average, the 2013 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 82 168 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2013 Ford Fusion

Was driving home when a fellow driver noticed i had flames coming from under my engine. i pulled over and didn't see any flames so i lifted the hood and there was a small fire coming from the engine. the fire went out on itself but i was stuck on the interstate and didn't feel safe so i moved vehicle to safe spot. a friend of mine said that it was weird for a car to catch on fire like that so he said check recall for vehicle. i checked and the recall stated that a fire could occur if these specific things occurred. car was towed to ford dealership and verified of recall. waiting on diagnosis now.

Engine cylinder head recall: the recall came out early in 2017 stating that the cylinder head may crack causing an oil leak that may result in a fire in the engine compartment. the recommendation was to keep coolant level properly maintained which was done, however, the coolant kept disappearing and going inside the engine for about a year. the engine failed jan 20, 2018 before a resolution by ford could be found. i was driving down the road and it just stopped running and would not start again. i was able to coast off the side of the road. the car was towed to a ford dealership in fayette, al where it has remained for two months. i have been given the runaround by ford motor company until today when they told me they could not meet my expectations and referred me back to the local dealer. the local dealer offered to sell me a used engine for $4000 which i refused to purchase. my expectation is for ford motor company to pay for investigation of the problem with my car which they have failed to do. i want them to repair my engine if this recall had anything to do with the failure, which i believe it has. coolant is not supposed to leak into the engine and i believe the damage caused by this event has caused the failure. they have left me without a vehicle, which i still owe almost $10,000 on, and refuse to do anything at all.

The engine issue:vehicle intermittently stalls while backing, and driving. the electrical throttle body was subject to a ford ' customer satisfaction program 13n03', that program has now expired, and any vehicles with the now malfunctioning throttle body will receive no warranty, or compensation for repair costs. when the vehicle stalls while driving, especially at highway speeds, this presents an extremely dangerous situation. the steering issue: two recalls were issued from ford regarding this issue. ford 13s06, nhtsa 13v232000 ford 15s14, nhtsa 15v250000 our vehicle wa not subject to the first recall, but was subject to the second. the recall work was performed by the original owner on may 15, 2015, the vehicle had approximately 30,000 miles at that time. the dealer inspected the steering gear motor for mounting bolt corrosion. the bolts were apparently found to all be intact, and a simple 'anti rust wax' was applied to the bolts. per fords directive, if any of the mounting bolts were missing/broken, a completely new steering gear assembly was to be installed. we purchased the car in the summer of 2017, with 55,500 miles on it. at just over 60,000 miles, the power steering failed while driving. this is my 16 year old daughters car, and all these mechanical issues have occurred when she is behind the wheel. the intermittent stalling, and most recently the complete loss of power steering thankfully did not result in accident or injury. fortunately she was driving in a 30 mph zone when the steering failed, and was able to allow the car to pull to the side of the road. she would have not been physically able to turn the vehicle, under other circumstances. our local ford dealer advised that ford would not assist in the steering repair. a subsequent follow up with ford directly verified same. both of these issues should be subject to a safety recall.

I bought my car august 6th,2016 with roughly 40000 miles from auto nation ford dealer . never had any problems until september 2017 . i was driving down the road and my car gave me a message that my engine was running hot and to stop immediately. i did and opened the hood and realized there was a coolant leak and it was smoking . i had it towed to the dealer to fix and they had to replace the heater hose and said they ran test to make sure their was no more leaks and everything looked good. i had to pay out of pocket because they said my manufacture nor extended would cover it. i didn't have any more problems again until december 29th 2017 (approximately 2 1/2 months later). i was riding down the road again and my car gave me the same message and i immediately pulled over again but this time it was on fire. i called my insurance company immediately and the fire department had to put out my car. i barely had time to pull over from the time my car alerted me to when it caught fire. the next business day when i spoke to my adjuster she told me about the recall for the engine fires due to coolant leaks on my car that was issued in mar 2017 . i was never notified or told and i was even at the dealership with the previous incident just a few months prior. i checked my coolant regular and all my other fluids. it never gave me any messages either time until i had to pull over immediately and the 2nd time it was on fire already before the car even notified me. now my insurance says they won't help me because my comprehensive coverage don't cover mechanical and after the adjuster went and looked at my vehicle, she claims that it's fords responsibility due to the recall. i have rental through ford but now they said they have to wait for an inspector to look at my car before they can issue me a rental and it could be a while. * (recall related incident) ts

Car will sporadically go into limp home mode while driving. never seems to be an issue while parked or not moving. the wrench light comes on and i have to pull over and let it sit for a good 15 to 20 minutes. i can then start it back up and it runs like there is no problem. mechanic can't find the issue because the check engine light disappears and no error code is given. happens on the highway and regular city streets. seems to be related to a known issue with this car. happens a few times a year but seems to be getting worse. electronic throttle body malfunction nhtsa preliminary evaluation #pe13003

Check engine light came on. used code checker to investigate and came up with code p144c. ended up having to do with the canister purge valve and it had to be replaced. cost - $326.04 repairs completed at wray ford, 2851 benton road, bossier city, la 318-686-7300, invoice number focs245906 on 21 dec 2016 second item: problem with start/stop button. the wrench on the dash would light up. only thing i could find out was look in the manual, which showed and told me nothing. car would just arbitrarily shut down while driving !!! once the vehicle was stopped, i had to use a knife to pull the start/stop button out and then it would generally restart and the wrench on the dash would go off. took to dealership and stated the ignition button was faulty. originally taken to dealership on 11-1-2017 and they did not have a replacement part, stated they were on back order and had no idea when a new one would be available, in the meantime, ford expected me to drive a vehicle that could potentially shut down at anytime, while turning in from of another vehicle at an intersection would have been a deadly event !! i filed a complaint with ford motor company, ford case number cas13448074 but never heard anything from ford. i followed up with the dealership weekly on status of part. it finally came in around december 14th and i scheduled an appointment to have it replaced on december 18th. cost - $361.66 i want an investigation as to whether these are recurring issues and a recall should be made for these issues. the second one is a major safety issue.

Just had the water pump replaced on the vehicle for the 3rd or 4th time now. vehicle has always been loosing coolant since i bought it. they have replaced the block heater just about as many times also. they never really seem to be able to figure out where its coming from and i'm quite concerned that no one seems to actually have it figured out. first problem was at 20,000 miles, 50,000 miles, 80,000 miles and 131,000 miles. there is a recall for coolant leaking onto the exhaust and starting a fire but i'm still being told that there is no fix for that issue yet. i was notified back in march of 2017 about that issue.

On way to work i on the morning of 10-12-17 going about 75mph on interstate and all the sudden there was a ding and flash of red (check engine light) on the dashboard stating engine overheating and engine shut down and car basically went into neutral. i lost all power, radio, lights etc. with the momentum i had built up going 75 i was able to make it across the 4 lanes to the shoulder. an ohio state trooper stopped to assist and was dumb founded when he say there was no power, the car would not turn on. i called the dealership spoke with jay and advised that car was being towed in. service department at ford is stating that it's a safety feature to stop fire from happening, but honestly how safe is to have the engine and all electrical power completely shut down on interstate. it was a matter of seconds between ding, light and loss of power. car was towed in using my aaa membership on a flatbed to liberty ford in brunswick, ohio. i was advised later that day that it was the water pump and had nothing to do with the sensor that was recalled. i had to use pto for work on thursday and car was ready for pick up on 10-13-17 around lunch time. on 10-13-17 i had to leave work early to get to dealership before they closed at 6pm otherwise i would be charged $50.00 for the loaner if returned on saturday morning. i picked up my car and it cost me @$107.00 for the deductible since they are stating it had nothing to do with the recall and that it was the water pump. on the afternoon of 10-14-17 (@ 12:30-12:45pm) driving in medina area on way to event with niece in the car the check engine light came on again. see attached for full complaint and docs

My car has stalled on me many times while driving on flat road, down a hill and coming out of a parking lot, engine light is now on.

The vehicle was started and was no more than 10 minutes from our house when it started smoking while being driven to work. within a minute the check engine light came on, within another minute the car lost power. the gas pedal wouldn't work, etc etc. we were able to coast into a side street and exit the vehicle. within a minute of that happening it burst into flames and was completely engulfed and destroyed.

Car overheated and next day it didn't started.

Car will stall when it is it is low rpm. it is more likely to stall after i have fueled up my car from it being low on calls. i can see the car shuddering and then drop the rpm very low. it has died when i have been in traffic before when i'm stopped at a light. it has died when i was leaving for work and backing out of my driveway. i noticed the issue of the car shuddering when i'm driving at low rpm and even when i'm coasting down a hill. i have went to the dealership several times for this issue and they have never eliminated the problem. it may have got a little better where it doesn't die as much but i definitely have to pay close attention when i just get fuel otherwise i'm afraid my call will stall at a stoplight. i called ford's customer service today to see if there was anything related to my issue as a recall but there was not. i asked the lady if she has heard of this issue and she said that it's a fairly common problem she hears about the fusion and other ford models "shuddering". most recently i have had my battery replaced. previously i had warranty work done in 2016 for the fuel pressure sensor to be replaced that cost $100 deducdible. neither of these repairs made any significant difference. i also experience that at low rpm there is hesitation when accelerating. there was other people i found online that have these issues and they suggested the "electronic throttle body" fixed their issue and they were covered by a extended warranty customer satisfaction program, but apparently my vin is not in that list.

I was driving my car an it wasn't hot or anything i went into the store came out started my car drove for 5 secs an my car shuts off says coolant overheated an doesn't start back up never had that problem before i look it up an there's a recall for it i call tri county ford in mabank an they come get it an say it's just a hose leak. never once was my check engine light on but after i got it back a week later it comes on an i find out it's a coolant bypass value an a little wrench tool pops up an no one knows what that means an the ford place says it's not under recall anymore an ill have to pay to fix it. o also my thing where you put water was just where it needed to be also but there was coolant on my engine ford never told me why so im guessing from the hose leak

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle was inoperable due to overheating and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to phil long ford of motor city (1212 motor city dr, colorado springs, co), but the failure could not be replicated. barbee freeway ford (4471 e evans ave, denver, co) was also contacted, but the failure could not be replicated. the dealer confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the vehicle was finally taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission and engine would have to be replaced. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

Takata recall check engine light came on about 10 months ago and vehicle overheats from time to time. retrieved code from obdii p26b7 and took the vehicle to my nearest dealer where they said they were aware there was a recall in regards to that issue but they couldt fix it.

Takata recall i was driving my car a couple months ago and all of a sudden it stopped allowing me to push the gas to drive and the heat indicator told me it was overheating without giving me warning. i took it to the dealership they said it east a recall and i paid close to 400 for them to fix and then a recall letter came out advising to watch coolant levels for overheating etc. while driving the other day 09/01/2017 my car did the same thing and was showing it was overheating without warning and now they are telling me again that i have to pay for the issue out of pocket which is unfair since the recall is not something i have control over. i just want it fixed replaced or a refund for the purchase price of my car minus the depreciation. please help me get this figured out. if any additional information is needed from me please let me know. i should have the receipt of when i paid originally but it's in the car at the dealership.

Recall #17s09 this has not happened but there has been a recall since i believe 3/17. overheating of the cylinder head which could cause a fire under the hood. have not heard anything from ford on this recall. it says there has been no remedy. seems like an excessive amount of time to remedy this problem.

I bought a 2013 fusion used last year i have had the car die going 70mph on the freeway several times and i have had the door fly open goinv 70 mph on the freeway and then wont close . last week my car wouldnt go under 80 mph white smoke barreling from the exaust with two days previous a low coolant warning coolant was added . car smelt like diesel fuel burning . went thru a tank of gas in 30 min and the car now sits at ford since the 5th of august waiting for tech to look at it. i already know its is a situation that ford needs to recall after reading all these complaint. i could have died and my kids im so upset

Takata recall - august 2017 my car experienced the following: coolant loss well below the minimum level in the coolant bottle at the time of a cold start of the vehicle. when a cold engine is started with insufficient coolant and the vehicle is driven, the cylinder head undergoes rapid heating. my vehicle was in motion on a city street. the dashboard began to ding and flash due to overheating. i had the recalls on my ford completed at tyler ford in tyler, tx; however, there is not a fix for the overheating recall. therefore, tyler ford "bandaided" the problem until a remedy is issued by ford.

Recently purchased vehicle, vehicle recently started stalling while idling. as of 07/30/17, it has done it twice. i will start the vehicle, it will then begin to shudder a bit and stall out. seems to do it more when it is cold. luckily, on both occasions, i was in a parking lot and not on the road. this could be a serious safety issue if it stalls while driving or stalls at a light.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving, the vehicle stalled. the contact parked the vehicle and noticed anti-freeze and oil had leaked onto the ground. the contact's daughter informed her of nhtsa campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling). the vehicle was towed to north gate ford (8940 colerain ave, cincinnati, oh 45251) and then towed to woody sander ford (235 w mitchell ave, cincinnati, oh 45232, (513) 541-5586) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. while driving, the contact heard the radiator boiling and a popping sound. the contact stated that the radiator overheated and the vehicle stalled. as a result, the power steering became difficult to maneuver. the contact was informed that the steering was designed to shut down to prevent engine failure. the coolant system and engine warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was then taken back to woody sander ford where the dealer stated that no recalls were associated with the vin. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Engine overheated as i was driving down the street, about 30 miles per hour. engine shuts off, i pulled over safely. had to be towed to the dealership. second time in 2 years. engine coolant receptacle cracks and fluid leaks out. had it repaired ince last year. encountered the sane issue again, now my fan needs to be replaced. dealer says 1300 in repairs. but ford recalled my model for this same reason. but now that it has turned into more damage, i an stuck with finding how to pay to get my car fixed.

The motor overheated just as in the description of recall 17s09. feslers automotive in fairfield, ia tried to blame it on something else even after they looked at it and said it overheated and cracked a cylinder head. i believe they have been negligent towards the actual issue and that issue was the recall. there was a coolant leak into one of the cylinder heads that froze a spark plug and cracked the cylinder head. i ended up having to buy a new motor because there was no fix for the recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving 70 mph, the engine temperature indicator chimed and the coolant level was low. the contact called a local dealer (griffin ford located at 1940 e main st waukesha, wi 53186 262-542-5781) and was informed that the recall remedy parts were on backorder. the contact was informed that the vehicle was not able to be serviced until june 22, 2017 at 7:00 am. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but was unable to offer any assistance. the failure mileage was 61,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

I was driving my fianc to work going about 25 mph and made a stop at an intersection and all of sudden my car start to smell like burnt rubber and smoke started to come out of the a/c and under the hood. i turned of the car immediately and checked the hood. there's was fire!!! coming out of the bottom of the engine. i called the fire department but i was fortunate enough to have very generous bystanders to help me put it out with the water that they were carrying. i was very lucky that that no one got hurt and the car didn't go up in flames because i didn't have anything to put it out with.

My car is a 2013 vehicle with 30,000 mile. the bypass valve is already bad on it. i now have to pay $400 out of pocket, because although it appears there is a recall on this part, ford repair shops are saying there isn't any recalls.

My 2013 fusion less than 5 years old and has just over 72 thousand miles on it, which places it just outside of warranty. in september 2016, my car gave me an overheating warning as soon as i cranked it. i paid 300 to have the temperature sender assembly replaced. on april 1, i was driving home from a trip. i stopped at a red light and my engine temperature suddenly spiked, i lost all power to the engine and barely was able to get it into a parking lot. they looked at it and concluded that it had overheated and a cracked cylinder head, and they told me they could repair the cylinder, but it would probably be safer to replace the engine. i inquired about the recall and ford paying for the repair and they directed me to open a case with ford. after arguing with ford for several days, ford informed me that the only thing the recall would cover is the installation of a coolant sensor. basically all they would offer is to install a sensor that will give me a heads up the next time my engine is going to blow up finally after 6 weeks i picked the car up on may 17. i started to drive home, made it about an hour, when my engine temperature started climbing and warning me about overheating again. i pulled over immediately, checked the coolant, let it cool off and tried again and it did the same thing within a few minutes. i had it towed to another ford dealership and they told me there was another problem with the coolant bypass valve and it had to be replaced. cost me another $300. so to summarize this lengthy story: i have a car that is less than 5 years old with a ruined engine. ford admits the car is defective and tends to overheat and ruin the engine, yet they refuse to accept responsibility and pay for the repairs. i waited for six weeks and paid over 7400 for new engine that didn't even last an hour before overheating again and costing me another 300.
