On average, the 2012 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 62 824 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2012 Ford Fusion

I went to stivers ford about the air bag be to the end of january and the beginning of february the mechanic took my recall information said they would call me as soon as the new bags got in never heard from them i called every month only to be told nothing came in yet so i called ford customers service they had me on hold the mechanic in montgomery stated that there was no record of me ever being there. customer service left me on the phone with the mechanic to make an appointment she hung up the phone i gave the mechanic my first and last name then he repeated back to me my first and last name with my address keep in mind he had all of my information in the system the whole time. so i made an appointment for friday may 31 2019. there is a faulty tire light on that won't go away even when i had the tire checked the car stopped in the middle of the intersection during the green light in heavy traffic the 🔧 light came on with the check engine light and the flashing faulty tire light . i put the car in park and turned off the engine then restarted the car and drove home i was very afraid because the cars behind me were moving pretty fast i was blessed to not be hit from behind. next day drove the car to a repair shop. every thing was working fine they ran a diagnosis showing the throttle was stuck and would not reset so it is stuck.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 35 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn to the right and the traction control warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. the vehicle was restarted and was towed to walterboro ford (located at 902 bells hwy, walterboro, sc 29488, (843) 549-5581) to be diagnosed. the results were unknown at this time. upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 215,000.

I was driving my 2012 ford fusion to work one day when suddenly i got an alert reading "service power steering now" and was no longer able to use my power steering which made turning extremely difficult. i was on a highway and had to pull over and park in the closest fuel station.

I was going 55 miles an hour on busy street in florida, all of sudden car was getting no gas, had to pull over, shut off car and restart, this has happened twice, very spuratic, very dangerous, had it towed to executive auto, they could not find anything, and could not get it to fail again. do not trust it

Was accelerating in my vehicle when the car hesitated and then just shut off in the middle of the road showing only an orange wrench light on the dash. thankfully i was driving in town and actually to the dealership to get my airbag recall fixed when this happened and nobody other than my boyfriend was behind me. i turned the key into the off position and turned it back on and the dash (wrench) light indicator went off. i could have seriously injured myself or another vehicle due to what seems to be be a system failure! i refused to take my car home from the dealership until they checked into it. they acted as if it was no big deal because the (wrench) light on the dash went off but i'm very concerned it's a safety issue and bad accidents can be a result of this.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving approximately 60 mph, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle decelerated and stalled. also, the front passenger side wheel detached from the vehicle, and the power steering and traction control warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to bob thomas ford west (5321 illinois road, fort wayne, indiana 46804, (260) 436-3673) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and provided the contact with case number: 16451951. the failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving, the check engine indicator illuminated and the power steering ability was reduced. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. the vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rack and pinion was sensing over effort and shutting down the power steering. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (al packer's white marsh ford, 9801 pulaski hwy, middle river, md 21220, (443) 777-5000) and they reprogrammed the power steering module, although they recommended it be replaced. the failure mileage was 94,983.

Electronic throttle body error codes lead to loss of engine power and engine being throttled back to approx. 10 mph in "limp home mode". issue is intermittent, and nhtsa has studied the problem previously. ford says my etb is not included in the recalls, and that i need to pay for the repairs. it is a known problem with this year ford fusion, and ford supposedly made a 10yr 150,000 mile warranty on the part....just not my etb.

I experiencing a 'throttle body' malfunction. my vehicle stalls while driving in traffic. there are numerous complaints in reference to this issue, both online as well as in person. this is a highly dangerous problem for myself and my family. on the highway this can / will cause a very dangerous situation to many other motorists as well. ford refuses to acknowledge this as a manufacturing defect issue and, by doing so, is placing countless people at risk unnecessarily. i am fed up with dealerships covering up for dangerous manufacturing issues. this problem needs to be addressed asap. this problem is getting worse every day.

During summer months with air conditioning running, the cabin of the car fills with heavy exhaust fumes whether the air is recirculated or outside air. daily commute is less than 10 minutes and traffic is light. i keep my windows closed when air conditioning is on. i haven't noticed this problem in the winter. i am worried about being exposed to dangerous carbon monoxide levels in the car. this occurs every time the car is driven both on the freeway and surface streets.

When driving the vehicle on an incline, or the engine is under loaad, the temperature gague goes up, but as soon as i come out of it, the temperature returns to normal. i have had it tested and it is not actually overheating. have a new water pump, thermostat, sensor and radiator. also, the car symbol on the instrument panel is on and all doors and trunk are closed. had to take it to the dealer, they've determined it is electrical after the "diagnostic", but are still trouble shooting after a week to determine the exact cause.

Car stalled without any warning. then it started immediately. next day started, then stalled immediately and would not start. the first time we were on traffic circle, and second time in garage

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 45 mph, the steering wheel seized and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact drove the vehicle to his destination with no power steering ability. the vehicle was powered off and restarted, but the failure recurred. griffeth ford lincoln (located at 213 main st, presque isle, me 04769, (207)-764-4129) diagnosed that the steering gear and rack failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 67,809. *tt*jb

I was driving down the street and the vehicle coasted to a stop in the street. engine was running at idle. gas pedal had no response. didn't see any fault indicators. shifted to neutral. pushed gas pedal several times with no response. after about 30 seconds gas pedal started working. shifted to drive and drove to side of road. drove vehicle to dealer. they pulled fault code p1285. dealer replaced radiator fan and head temperature sensor. working okay so far. (3 days)

I was on the road pack saddle in jonestown tx 78645, when i pulled on to road 1431. a large truck with a crash guard hit me on the driver's side @ 60mph. the accident turned my car into a horse shoe, and senjt me into on coming trafic. all of the air bags were activated and saved both me and my wife but, the residue that came with the activation pepperd me in the face and ruined my glasses. if i had not had my glasses on,i would have lost my vision due to such. we were on a county road.turning left and my vehicle was in motion.

City traffic, 30mph. only had traveled a few miles. temperature was in the low 90's and dewpoint in the low to mid 60's. wrench tool icon illuminated and the vehicle shook and total loss of power. could only go 3-5 mph. pulled off the road. turned off car and restarted. icon was off and car ran fine. service scan tool did not find any faults. after the scan, the dash message center displayed the message: "service advancetrac". intermittent problem with no other error messages and appears to be a common on ford vehicles. simply restarting the vehicle should not erase the source of the problem. this is a very dangerous situation if this occurs at highway speeds because of the total loss of power.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 68 mph, the vehicle stalled and the power assist indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a local dealer (bob allen ford, 9239 metcalf ave, overland park, ks 66212), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and advised the contact that there was no recall associated with the vin. no further assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 130,000.

The electronic throttle body has failed twice within 500 miles. (the vehicle has 71500 as of this writing) both times this has occurred at approximately 35 mph while driving on a flat stretch of road at a steady speed with little input from the accelerator. in both circumstances the car has thudded into "limp mode" where the car can only coast of the road. a restart seems to clear the problem.

Car intermittently shuts down/stalls out with no warning when accelerating ,at all speeds and conditions. the little wrench lights up on the dash but vehicle is not throwing any codes. very dangerous situation!!! called the dealership and no recalls or acknowledgement from ford that there is a problem. hard to believe no action being taken as of yet with all of the other complaints i have read from other owners. very disappointed here. car has all routine maintenance performed on it and is very well cared for, mileage is just over 58,000. sure would appreciate ford stepping up to the plate and standing behind their product!

My 2012 ford fusion sel, when accelerating from a stationary point on a city street, my engine loses power and starts to sputter before the engine shuts off on its own. this problem has happened many times in the middle of traffic, where i'd have to completely stop, put the gear in park, and restart the engine.

My vehicle began to overheat as a result of a recall. i brought the vehicle into my dealership and they told me the manufacturers defect had ruined my engine and it needed to be replaced. ford has refused to repair the vehicle which is now inoperable. they claim it's out of warranty but how can my warranty be void if it's a recall defect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving approximately 30 mph, the bolt from the engine fractured and hit the cv joint. grease flooded the cv joint which made it difficult to drive the vehicle. the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. the contact was not sure if the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 83,894. updated 07/11/17*lj consumer stated he worked on the vehicle engine to get the broken bolt out, but was not able, because he did not have the right tool. updated 9/28/18 *jb

For a while know my car would randomly stop. all of a sudden it would decrease in speed and then shake at which time i would pull over and shut the car down after some time i am able to start the car up again and get back on the road. no mechanic can actually find anything wrong with my car so they just keep telling me to come back if it does it again. at first i thought it was the fuel filter so i was told by the mechanic to use fuel injection cleaner in my car. i have done that and it appeared to work however it started up again. i have been having this issue off and on for a while but can never find the issue. i am wondering why hasn't there been a recall on this. i noticed that with this model year everyone is having the same issue. i live in houston and our freeways are not the best places to break down.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving and slowing to a stop, the contact noticed an abnormal smoke odor emitting from the front of the vehicle. the contact stated that the odor was like burning oil. an independent mechanic determined that there was evidence of an oil leak, but could not locate its origin. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 97,900.

I just hit 40,000 miles, vehicle has become very unsafe, while driving vehicle shuts off. acceleration take too long and once it kicks in it slams into gear. if i need to reverse it won't find the gear and when it does , i slams into gear, the wrench continues to appear on dash when said event is happening. there should be a recall on that transmission or engine. very unsafe. when vehicle stalls it becomes a hazard to everyone around me. if someone could please contact me this would be great. upon searching what the problem could be i noticed numerous complaints about the same issue. please help! i don't have any photos of the vehicle shutting down and what a hazard it can be . tell me what to do please.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was a sudden loss of power. the vehicle failed to accelerate, lunged forward, and jerked while in motion or making a turn. in addition, the power train warning indicator flashed several times. two dealers were notified of the failure, but the dtc was not present; therefore, the failure was unable to be replicated and diagnosed. the manufacturer had a service campaign, but refused to provide a solution. the dealer would not replace the part unless they could determine the failure. the contact was able to order the part from the manufacturer and replaced the electronic throttle body. the manufacturer had not issued a recall. the vin was not included in nhtsa action number: pe13003 (engine). the failure mileage was not available.

Takata inflator: on september 23rd i was driving to work using local stet and all of a sudden my car lost all power, it would not accelerate when i hit the gas. several warning lights came on inside the car including the engine light. it happen once again on oct 5, 2016 while driving on 408. thank god that the traffic was heavy and i was able to place the car into park, turn the engine off and then on again. i the traffic was not heavy i could have been badly injured. i did not notice any recalls for this issue. please don't let someone loose they life before the issue is fixed

Engine stalls without warning

While driving on a city street car stalls and shake this happened four times within two months, had it diagnosed at a local shop no code reading was discover.

Driving on the 605 fwy with my 5 year old going about 65mph when my car suddenly lost power and a orange wrench light appeared, i was able to pull off to the shoulder when my car jerked and completely shut down. it took me 3 times to get it started only to have this happen again about 2 miles up the road. i was able to safely get home but my mechanic has advised that i have an error code p2111 and my throttle body will need to be replaced. this is extremely dangerous and i am not a happy ford customer. i will be taking in my car to the dealer tomorrow in hopes that they will stand behind thier product and replace this part.

Over the past week my 2012 ford fusion decelerated, idled roughly, lost power steering and power breaking and the wrench dummy light came on. all 4 times it occurred below 30 mph in clear conditions. the car is extremely hard to handle and luckily i was in areas where i could pull over safely. once pulled over i was able to restart the car and resume driving. i have brought in my car twice to a local mechanic who could not find any error messages on the computer. i have an appointment at the local ford dealership to do more diagnostics. i am very concerned about the safety of this vehicle and its reliability.

My throttle body is giving me issues. it will hesitate and react as if it will stall on occasion when i am on the highway, it will jerk badly. no engine lights appear on my dash, however i was notified by ford there is a replacement extended warranty, yet that extension does not cover the initial charge from the dealer to check the throttle body out, which is dead wrong of ford. i believe they should cover any and all charges regarding this the throttle body. in addition my vehicles rack and pinion or pwer steering sueels alot while in driving, ive check fluid levels and they are normal, yet it will make alot of noise.

2015 had throttle body replaced by ford for nothing ..8 months later it happened again 6/3/16..ford paid for the first wont do the second without me paying for it..this can be dangerous as it just stops , you have no power to move, then it shakes and dies. i did start it right after and got home both times. just saying if this is a faulty part..why arent they fixing it, not us. i f your going fasdt i would hate to think what would happen on a big highway.

Car exhibits a drone/moan or rattle noise. the noise typically occurs while driving up a slight incline, under light throttle at 45-61 km/h (28-38 mph) at 1300-1400 rpm, in 5th gear. the noise may be present with the a/c on or off but is typically aggravated when the a/c compressor cycles on. this is the exact same issue at tsb 11-10-26, but that tsb only applies to escape and mariner vehicles even though the issue also applies to fusions. this tsb should apply to all vehicles affected, not just some. see video for exact sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmcs-0sau5w thanks

Driving at 10 mph turning into a city street and the car stalled. i shut off the car and restarted it and it worked to get me to my driveway (~400 feet).

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power and electrical functionality. all the warning indicators illuminated and flickered until the vehicle loss power. the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery failed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was returned to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the gem module malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact was informed that it was not a safety issue. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

I was driving down the highway at 65 mph. i had been driving for about 30 minutes. the car suddenly lurched. the "wrench" light illuminated and i had no power from the engine. i coasted to the emergency lane. the idle was very rough and sputtering. i restarted the car and it operated normally for the next 15 miles when i reached my destination.

I was traveling down a surface street when the car suddenly lurched forward and then lost all engine power. i was able to coast to a turn lane and shut the car off safely. the engine idle was extremely rough and sputtering. after restarting the car it operated normally until i reached my destination. this was the 2nd time today that the car malfunctioned in the same manner.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and the wrench warning light illuminated. the vehicle restarted after several attempts. the failure recurred multiple times at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Small evaporative leak attributed to the fuel filler neck as part of the capless gas system. this year, make, model presents consistent issues in this area. previous model years had recalls associated with this issue, but not the 2012 for some reason.

While i was driving on the highway my car stalled out. i was able to pullover on the side of the road. the car started like jerking. the wrench light came on as well as the engine light. it started right back up. it stopped for awhile, but it's been doing it more often now.

My 17 yr old daughter was driving the car at 30 mph when the car began to buck and jerk and she immediately brought it to a stop. it would not take any more power or acceleration. while stopped in the middle of the road she called me and noted the temp gauge showed hot with a check engine light. we had it towed. technician who diagnosed the problem found a faulty temp sensor that showed the engine was overheating and causing the engine to go into fail-safe shut-down mode. apparently this has happened often enough that ford has a service bulletin out on the problem, but no recall. this could have been a disaster if she had still been on the road where she parked it. there should be a manufacturer recall to have these parts checked out. there is a known corrosion issue with the sensor and wiring.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate and stalled. the check engine and wrench warning icons illuminated. at a traffic light, the contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume driving. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was a recall on the engine throttle body, but her vin was not included. the manufacturer provided the contact with the phone number to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 39,000.

Tl* the contact owned a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the engine caught fire. the fire department extinguished the fire. a police and a fire report were not filed and no injuries were reported. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 80,000.

First incident was in 2013, driving down freeway and advance trac light came on then the power steering went out on car. took in for repairs and cost me 2054.00 for repairs, was told not under warranty. paid for repair and here it is less than on year later and i have same failures on my vehicle as my husband, son and grandson were coming back from a trip. thank god no one was hurt. first advance trac light came on followed by power steering fault light came on and they lost the power steering to the car. tried to turn car off and restart car again and still no power steering available. this is becoming quite common for this model car because my daughter has the same car and had the exact same issue. something has to be done, before someone gets killed. always after the issue happens when driving car the engine shifts really hard, rpm's go up and then slams into gear!!!! *tr

Vehicle stalled while driving probably 45 mph in the middle of traffic. i hit the gas, the car kept slowing down. i had to put my emergency signals on. the car turned off in the middle of traffic. i had to switch to park and restart the car again. *tr

A few months after i purchased the car and as i was slowed down due to traffic, coasting at 5-10 mph, the car accelerated with a roar and to avoid the accident i swerved to right, applied the brakes hard to stop the car.yesterday,11/20/14, it repeated the incident on my drive way while i was entering the garage and hit the storage objects there and also i had to apply the brakes hard to stop the car. many times during the past two years the car has behaved similarly at stop signs but with much less fury. *tr

Vehicle exhibited extreme hesitation when accelerating through an intersection. engine ran roughly, and did not respond to throttle inputs, and powertrain 'wrench' light illuminated. pulled into an adjacent parking lot, stopped and placed into park, while the engine continued to run roughly. engine was switched off, and ran normally when restarted. the total elapsed time of the anomaly was approximately 5-10 seconds. later that day a scan of the obd ii port indicated no anomalies, and an on-board 'vehicle health monitor' was run via ford sync . this report also indicated no anomalies. while looking up the vehicle health monitor results on the owner website, i noticed that there was a 'customer satisfaction program' 13n03 which extended the warranty on the throttle body. research on this 13n03 program via multiple on-line sources revealed numerous failures of the throttle body, with behavior identical to that observed in this vehicle. car was driven (carefully) for a few days until i was able to visit local ford dealer. service advisor indicated that ford would only replace throttle body if there were stored codes consistent with throttle body failure, and that diagnostic costs ($159) were my responsibility if no codes were found. after discussing the negative results of obd ii scan and vehicle health monitor, his opinion was that there was a very high probability that their diagnostics would also show no codes. based on this information, i declined to have dealer examine the car, and replaced the throttle body with updated part myself (total cost $125), as a more effective approach to preventing recurrence. my opinion is that the 13n03 program needs to be a full recall, as this failure is common, unpredictable, and can have very serious consequences should it occur during high speed merging or crossing traffic. *tr
