We have classified the 116 complaints from 2012 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Yesterday 2/15/2020 out of no where the (service power steering now, and the advance trac light came on under normal driving conditions doing 55mph on a curvy road. the problem is common and very unsafe for drivers. not to mention extremely expensive to fix. now why is it that only some of the cars are covered in the recall when all fords with the newly designed electronic steering are affected by the failure of this system!
A shifter cable that detaches from the transmission is not allowing the gear state to go into park. however the gearshift position shows it in park.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while the vehicle was engaged in park, the vehicle rolled away. the contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed; however, the emergency brake had to be applied to stop the vehicle. when attempting to restart the vehicle, the gear became stuck and would not move. russell barnett ford (4055 tullahoma hwy, winchester, tn 37398, (931) 967-2277) was contacted and stated that the gear shaft needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 82,000.
Transmission has delayed gear shifting, gear slipping and the engine revs without the car accelerating. to put it simply the transmission has failed. twice!
I have an issue with my 2012 ford fusion. a couple of years ago i had my steering rack replaced as a part of the manufacturers recall. here i am a couple of years later with a ford fusion with a failed steering rack that needs to be replaced according to my local ford dealership. my car now has no power steering and the warning light for the advancetrack system honks at me every time i start the car. i think this is ridiculous to have this happen in such a short period of time, and it's clear that the main issue was never remedied because it has to do with how cramped all the parts under the hood are; there's no room for air so the steering rack basically gets cooked into oblivion. so here i am at 42 years old with a medical disability and a repair that costs $1600 while my car is worth less than that...and i have no recourse as the company is not taking care of it's responsibilities. while my car has 160,000 miles on it, the steering rack was replaced and has much less wear on it so it shouldn't be dying on me
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 40 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle did not gain speed. the contact parked the vehicle on the side of the road and then took it to cabrera auto (located at carr #2 km 82.2 salida expreso hatillo, pr-2, 00614, puerto rico, +1 787-333-8410) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 57,000. *bf description in spanish. *jb
Shift cable off transmission cable bushing. parked at hotel, shifted to park and took foot off brake and vechile began rolling forward. shifter was stuck in park position but car was in drive. used e-brake to avoid rolling into next vehicle in front of me. car will not start because it is still in drive.
Driving on highway and msg popped up and said service powertrac and service power steering now. steering wheel locked up and became hard to turn.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while the vehicle was parked with the key removed from the ignition, it rolled away and crashed into another parked vehicle. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 141,000.
The low tire pressure light came on inside the dash as i was pulling into my driveway. so i drove about .01mile to get air. after i put air in the tire, started the car and immediately got a warning that power steering needed servicing. then got another warning that advance track needed servicing. all happened at the same time and the power steering was completely gone out. the dealership quoted me $1809 to fix the steering rack. the service dept said the gear inside the power steering rack has gone bad and the control arms it sits on has worn out the gear therefore needing front lower control arms costing $1213.23
Was driving girlfriend to doctor and fix power steering light came on we made it to the appointment and i parked my car and turned it off... on returning to my car to leave i tried to pull out parking spot but steering wheel is very hard to turn and is unsafe to drive...
Was accelerating in my vehicle when the car hesitated and then just shut off in the middle of the road showing only an orange wrench light on the dash. thankfully i was driving in town and actually to the dealership to get my airbag recall fixed when this happened and nobody other than my boyfriend was behind me. i turned the key into the off position and turned it back on and the dash (wrench) light indicator went off. i could have seriously injured myself or another vehicle due to what seems to be be a system failure! i refused to take my car home from the dealership until they checked into it. they acted as if it was no big deal because the (wrench) light on the dash went off but i'm very concerned it's a safety issue and bad accidents can be a result of this.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that that the vehicle started, but the steering wheel was unable to move. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that a new rack and pinion or steering column was needed or the computer would need to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 138,000. *dt consumer stated vehicle was repaired by having new steering column installed. updated 01/30/19*jb
I recently noticed the mark on my driveway was getting bigger. something under the engine is leaking. brought car in for leak, after 1/2 hour, they told me i had to replace the ptu. of course, the warranty has expired. the cost will be around $2300. i need my car so told them to fix it of course. i am on a limited budget, thank goodness for charge cards!
My transmission has been jolting whenever it shifts into gear 3, especially when going up hills. my vehicle has been well taken care of and not been involved any any previous accidents. the problem started when it had about 80,000 miles on it, and now it has 110,000 miles and the problem is worse. i have looked at other online forums and can confirm that i am not the only one with this problem.
Car jerks and shifts poorly and sometimes at the wrong time when starting up from a stop. also downshifted from 6th grear to much lower gear when on the highway at highway speed in hot weather (over 100 degrees f), causing frightening loss of speed and accelerating motor rpms.
Lunging, not going into gear, shuttering, not able to control speed on any type of highway. can't drive it safely to get it to the ford service dept. car is in charlotte, nc. contacted capital ford on n tryon st and huntersville ford on statesville rd. both dealers look at it for 4 or 5 days and we have to bring it to them. it's not safe to drive.
Front left transmission seal leaking, axle shaft loose and damaged, wheel increasingly wobbly with speed. directly and negatively affects brake rotors and pads as well as wheel knuckle stability and shock absorber wear. car is dangerous to drive as steering control has decreased dramatically. the rubber seal around the transaxle on the left (driver side) front wheel axle has been sliced open from the inside by metal shavings produced by the bad production of the parts included in the axle shaft assembly, causing abnormal wear/shaving of the shaft. the joint has been completely damaged and is now in turn causing damage to the upper and lower ball joints, shock absorber, wheel knuckle, steering arm, brake rotors, break pads, the wheel hub, wheel bearing, tire etc. it literally efects the entire driver side front suspension, drivetrain, and steering components, continuously degrading their state with time and making them more dangerous to use/more dangerous to drive the car. no history of any damage has been recorded on this vehicle on that side and this has been a factory defect from the beginning, just poorly and very slowly addressed. because if ford's untimely response to this issue, most owners are forced to deal with the issues in vehicles effected by this ford factory defect out of their own pocket, which is unfair.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the canister purge valve was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. capital ford (4900 capital blvd, raleigh, nc) was called and informed the contact of customer satisfaction program number: 16b38 (powertrain control module reprogramming and canister purge valve inspection). the contact was informed that the vin was not applicable to the program. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that nhtsa was responsible for recalls being issued. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 94,015.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while reversing out of the driveway, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. also, the power train warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle was turned off and restarted but, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate above 5 mph. the vehicle was parked in the contact's driveway. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the vehicle had not been repaired. the vin and failure mileage were unknown.
Cv axle joint went out while driving in construction.
The first time my power steering went out was when i was turning onto a busy intersection and was almost hit by two cars that were going pretty fast. i was able to drive it to a nearby ford service center and the fixed three recalls: the throttle body, the powertrain, and power steering. not even 8 months later, those same three issues went out again. the power steering went out when i was on the highway going 70 mph. i ended up spinning and damaged my front bumper trying to pull over and be safe.
I was driving down the street and the vehicle coasted to a stop in the street. engine was running at idle. gas pedal had no response. didn't see any fault indicators. shifted to neutral. pushed gas pedal several times with no response. after about 30 seconds gas pedal started working. shifted to drive and drove to side of road. drove vehicle to dealer. they pulled fault code p1285. dealer replaced radiator fan and head temperature sensor. working okay so far. (3 days)
Half shaft axel is leaking transmission fluid due to the shafts surface finish wearing down the components. this is a known issue with this make model and year. very costly for consumers to fix and extremely unsafe for the driver and other motorists on the road as i was told it can cause your transmission to blow while driving and stop your car suddenly if not addressed. i only became aware of this dangerous situation when taking my car in for an oil change, due to only driving the vehicle 3,000 miles per year i only get an oil change once a year. who knows how long this has been a problem.
There is a grinding/pooping noise from front of vehicle when turning. the recall 15s18 was reprogrammed along recall 16b38 but the noise has continued and has gotten worse. when driving slow and turning to the left and right in a parking lot it is very noticeable the dealership stated the noise was coming from the steering rack.
When turning on the windshield wipers to low setting, they initiate at full speed with small breaks in between going to the correct set wiper speed. have to turn off completely several times in order for the correct setting to register finally. automatic transmission has hard slipping shifting going from 1st to 2nd gear when accelerating from a stopped position, very similar to the ford focus powershift transmission recall
City traffic, 30mph. only had traveled a few miles. temperature was in the low 90's and dewpoint in the low to mid 60's. wrench tool icon illuminated and the vehicle shook and total loss of power. could only go 3-5 mph. pulled off the road. turned off car and restarted. icon was off and car ran fine. service scan tool did not find any faults. after the scan, the dash message center displayed the message: "service advancetrac". intermittent problem with no other error messages and appears to be a common on ford vehicles. simply restarting the vehicle should not erase the source of the problem. this is a very dangerous situation if this occurs at highway speeds because of the total loss of power.
Vehicle experiences sudden loss of power at any speed without any warning. the powertrain warning light illuminates, the car becomes unable to accelerate beyond 15mph, and the car must be pulled over in dangerous traffic conditions. once pulled over and placed in park, the engine attempts to rev itself until the vehicle is turned off. after restarting the vehicle several times, the powertrain warning light will turn off and the car will function normally. this issue occurred seldomly at first, but within a month the car became non-driveable due to the issue occurring every few minutes while driving, which presents a significant safety hazard especially in conjunction with the takata airbag. the issue has been diagnosed by a ford dealer as a faulty electronic throttle body. ford had previously issued a customer satisfaction program 13n03 to satisfy the numerous complaints of this same issue, but the parameters of the program were so narrow that despite the vehicle possessing the same throttle body and within the same model year and make, the vehicle does not qualify. the program also expired quickly despite the issue presenting itself throughout the lifetime of the car with many who bought these vehicles used.
The electronic throttle body has failed twice within 500 miles. (the vehicle has 71500 as of this writing) both times this has occurred at approximately 35 mph while driving on a flat stretch of road at a steady speed with little input from the accelerator. in both circumstances the car has thudded into "limp mode" where the car can only coast of the road. a restart seems to clear the problem.
While driving the vehicle has issues while transmission is upshifting . have had vehicle serviced for complaint at ford yet continues to be an issue even after repair was made
The electric power stearing went out while i was driving on the highway going 70 mph and pulled me off to the side of the highway and blew out my tire.
My 2012 ford fusion sel, when accelerating from a stationary point on a city street, my engine loses power and starts to sputter before the engine shuts off on its own. this problem has happened many times in the middle of traffic, where i'd have to completely stop, put the gear in park, and restart the engine.
I own a 2012 ford fusion and the car has started shutting down when i slow and while stopped at lights. it jerks at times which made me think it was bad gas or something like that. then it started shutting off. i've taken it to several auto places and no one can tell me what it is. i have read and researched this problem and found that it's happening a lot. why is there not a recall from ford on this? i will think twice from buying another ford..
For a while know my car would randomly stop. all of a sudden it would decrease in speed and then shake at which time i would pull over and shut the car down after some time i am able to start the car up again and get back on the road. no mechanic can actually find anything wrong with my car so they just keep telling me to come back if it does it again. at first i thought it was the fuel filter so i was told by the mechanic to use fuel injection cleaner in my car. i have done that and it appeared to work however it started up again. i have been having this issue off and on for a while but can never find the issue. i am wondering why hasn't there been a recall on this. i noticed that with this model year everyone is having the same issue. i live in houston and our freeways are not the best places to break down.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. on two different occasions, after air was applied to the front driver's side tire, the contact attempted to drive when the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the advance trac service power train indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to rob sight ford (13901 washington st, kansas city, mo 64145, (816) 941-1200) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. on another occasion, the front driver's side tire was filled with air when the steering seized. the vehicle was then taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering gear fault needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall. the failure mileage was not available.
I just hit 40,000 miles, vehicle has become very unsafe, while driving vehicle shuts off. acceleration take too long and once it kicks in it slams into gear. if i need to reverse it won't find the gear and when it does , i slams into gear, the wrench continues to appear on dash when said event is happening. there should be a recall on that transmission or engine. very unsafe. when vehicle stalls it becomes a hazard to everyone around me. if someone could please contact me this would be great. upon searching what the problem could be i noticed numerous complaints about the same issue. please help! i don't have any photos of the vehicle shutting down and what a hazard it can be . tell me what to do please.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. after the contact placed the vehicle in the park position and exited, the vehicle began to roll. the contact was able to get back into the vehicle and stop it from moving. the key was removed from the ignition; however, the vehicle would not restart. the contact stated that the 'vehicle not in park' warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was a sudden loss of power. the vehicle failed to accelerate, lunged forward, and jerked while in motion or making a turn. in addition, the power train warning indicator flashed several times. two dealers were notified of the failure, but the dtc was not present; therefore, the failure was unable to be replicated and diagnosed. the manufacturer had a service campaign, but refused to provide a solution. the dealer would not replace the part unless they could determine the failure. the contact was able to order the part from the manufacturer and replaced the electronic throttle body. the manufacturer had not issued a recall. the vin was not included in nhtsa action number: pe13003 (engine). the failure mileage was not available.
Lose of power. must stop and restart car. very close calls on highway with children in car. both on highway and in town. not safe to drive, 3rd time in 2 days.
So with in the pass week of 8/8/2016 thru 8/13/2016. i have had a wrench light come on 3 different times and car almost shut off, while driving down the street. so pull over and shut off and crank it back up and go on. however, its becoming a problem and come to find out this maybe throttle control/transmission issue. somebody gonna get hurt, cause you never know when it gonna cut out on you. also both door latches will not either open or lock from the inside. causing existing issue.
Harsh shifts between 1-2 and or 2-3, flares when accelerating at times..... clutches seem to be slipping inside the tramsmission at times during hard acceleration....harsh downshifts... when slowing down for a traffic light but not coming to a complete stop and trying to accelerate the car acts "boggy" when the air is on. it seems like it can't decide which gear it should be in.
Over the past week my 2012 ford fusion decelerated, idled roughly, lost power steering and power breaking and the wrench dummy light came on. all 4 times it occurred below 30 mph in clear conditions. the car is extremely hard to handle and luckily i was in areas where i could pull over safely. once pulled over i was able to restart the car and resume driving. i have brought in my car twice to a local mechanic who could not find any error messages on the computer. i have an appointment at the local ford dealership to do more diagnostics. i am very concerned about the safety of this vehicle and its reliability.
I am facing electrical issue in my car very frequently. the electrical problem occurs two ways, 1) while running 2) while starting the car while running:- when the electrical issue come while car is running then the below problem occurs, 1. transmission should not be set to parking, if set to parking then we cannot move to neutral or drive. it will be stuck and tow is the only option. 2. turn lights will not work. 3. head lights will not work. 4. door glass sliding will not work. 5. ac will not work 6. car display will not work for clock am/fm 2) while starting the car:- if the problem occurs while starting the car then i will be able to only start the car and the automatic transmission will not work. we cannot move the transmission from parking to neutral or drive. towing the vehicle is the only option. this is dangerous while driving at night, i got this issue one time at night and i got the tough time in towing the car and getting to service centre. as the service centre is always busy they wont get the time to diagnosis immediately and at the time of they check it work properly. any way they were not able to find any issues with me car. but when i take the car back to home the electrical issue often occurs. no one assure of the safety, and i am trying my best to drive at night and highways. extremely dangerous.
When i'm either taking off or in motion riding down any type of road or highway a wrench light comes on some time. i look the icon up and it says something about the power tran or transmission. while in motion it feel as if i lost speed and then the wrench icon pops on. when taking off i can feel a jerk as if it can't get the power to shift and go.
Transmission shifting erratically, completed ford reflash of tcm (tsb# 12-6-12) and made the transmission flare and gear pause go away. however now the vehicle after driving it a few hundred miles shifts very hard. this also causes the vehicle to accelerate forward in an inconstant manner (example - pushing on the gas pedal the same amount 2 different times from a stop resulted in a jack rabbit start and the other accelerated more smoothly without the sudden jolt.) the vehicle will do this repeatedly but only in light throttle applications, 1/2 throttle and above the transmission shifts perfect. the 6f35 transmission should be recalled for issues as the 2010-2016 model fusion / escape vehicles have these issues when searching for common issues or remedies for the issues i've experienced.
As i put car in drive to take off the trans made a loud bang sound and didn't want to go forward. reved up high and then took off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while attempting to accelerate from a stop light, the vehicle jerked and sounded as if it would stall. the vehicle suddenly accelerated and was taken to a local dealer, but no failures could be found. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa to file a complaint. the failure mileage was 25,000. the vin was not provided.
I purchased a used 2012 ford fusion with 30k miles on it in 2015. while driving on the freeway at 70mph the vehicle lost all power causing me to almost crash. the throttle body was diagnosed as the issue and was supposedly fixed under ford customer satisfaction 13n03. fast forward to july 15th, 2016 and the same thing happened while on the freeway. my car is now sitting at my local ford dealership and either the dealership isn't fixing the car correctly or ford has more issues they are hiding.
I was traveling down a surface street when the car suddenly lurched forward and then lost all engine power. i was able to coast to a turn lane and shut the car off safely. the engine idle was extremely rough and sputtering. after restarting the car it operated normally until i reached my destination. this was the 2nd time today that the car malfunctioned in the same manner.
What feels like is brakes sticking. 1st noticed when backing out of driveway one morning. i put car in reverse it wouldn't move without acceleration. on good days it moves on it's own. when it's acting up and i let off acceleration, car stops itself abruptly without applying brake. early this week me and my son were stopped at drive thru window (thank god not at a stop light). when i went to accelerate to leave, my car wouldn't move. embarrassed i accelerated harder and finally got it moving but it sounded like brakes were sticking, i couldn't go over 15 mph, car wouldn't shift was at 3 rpm, and any time i let off gas pedal the car abruptly stopped dead in tracks. terrified i drove car a few blocks to my dad and as i was pulling into driveway they freed up. when this happens my brakes get real stiff (hard to press) he could feel the heat rolling off front tires and they smelled really hot. took to 3 different dealerships and none can find a cause because the brakes aren't acting up at that point in time. they need to see it in action before they can get an idea. so here i am 2 months now still driving like this. this happens at least once a week. comes and goes. today i had pcm updated and powertrain replaced and after that when the mechanic got in car to move it, it didn't want to move. he described it as it was like having no power. they hooked it up and it showed power train. so they replaced it. he don't think it was my brakes doing this but yet the other dealership said you can clearly see where my front brakes have been really hot. i'm hoping somehow the update fixed it. time will tell
