Steering wheel has been right for a little more than a month. dealership is unable to help me and i am still making payments on a vehicle that had a recall. 'takata inflator' i have an open recall for my airbags. i need answers on what to do next, selling a car with an open recall should be illegal.. i take my kids to school every morning. please help!!!
On march 11, 2019 as i was driving on the highway, the steering wheel locked up and with all my strength was barely able to navigate my 2012 ford fusion safely to my home. during this incident i had the 'service power steering now' indication on the ipc (instrument panel cluster) as well and an advantrac (ford's traction control system) light. the following day i called and asked the ford service advisor if there had been a recall in the past for power steering issues on this model. he said no but for me to take the car in for a diagnostic check. i had my car towed to corwin ford on march 12 for a check-up. on such date i get a call from corwin ford noting they would need to replace epas and front suspension front and rear lower control arms for $3,420. and once again, the service advisor stated that there had never been a recall for this issue. i can't afford to fix this issue and will be having my car towed back to my house tomorrow. i paid ford $144 today for the service check.
Power steering went out following a flat tire.
Vehicle was stationary when power steering went out and advance trac. dealership fails to acknowledge why they advise a new power steering rack and new control arms. was told control arms are seizing up putting too much stress on the power steering and shortening it out. why not perform the recall work first to see if it fixes it rather than propose almost $4,000 worth of repairs? the recall i'm referring to is 15v340 and 15s18
The low tire pressure light came on inside the dash as i was pulling into my driveway. so i drove about .01mile to get air. after i put air in the tire, started the car and immediately got a warning that power steering needed servicing. then got another warning that advance track needed servicing. all happened at the same time and the power steering was completely gone out. the dealership quoted me $1809 to fix the steering rack. the service dept said the gear inside the power steering rack has gone bad and the control arms it sits on has worn out the gear therefore needing front lower control arms costing $1213.23
I took the car to the dealership because suddenly the power steering went out when i had a flat tire. they sent me an estimate and i did not agree to a $135 diagnostic fee when there was a recall on this specifically. i took the car back, they kept my wheel and stated that they did the recall work on both the airbag and the steering, but neither was performed. now i'm left without a wheel and still riding on a do nut and still no power steering. this is coggin ford, atlantic blvd jax, fl
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that the power steering was faulty. the steering wheel seized and would not move. when the contact's son brought the vehicle home from college, the steering wheel was fine. when the contact attempted to drive the vehicle, the steering wheel seized again. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v001000 (air bags). also, the power steering warning indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to gillie hyde ford (610 happy valley rd, glasgow, ky 42141) where the mechanics only repaired the air bag and were waiting for the contact to give permission to service the steering wheel. the dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in any steering recalls. the contact was holding off on the steering repair until a recall was issued; however, the dealer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. the power steering was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue/problem on monday, 4/1/19. they said this vehicle was not covered under the recall. they refused to provide any assistance with checking the vehicle or making repairs. the failure mileage was 87,000. *tt*jb
Vehicle was in motion turning into driveway when the power steering assist fault code come on dash. turned vehicle off did it again. restarted second time and code went off. was previously fixed under recall in 2015
A couple weeks ago i started my vehiche to leave work. when tryng to steer the car, i noticed it very difficult to turn. i noticed then on the dash board a power steering assist fault. i was able to drive car home and left it parked until some investigation online to as what the problem was. i pulled up a report from ford motor co. that ther was a safety recall 15s18 for certain models and model years. ford fusion 2011-2012 was on the list with build dates sept. 7, 2010-feb. 28, 2012. i called the ford customer service number 1-866-436-7332 to confirm there was a safety recall for the power steering as well as the passahger airbag module. the gentelman told me after i gave him my vin number that the two safety recalls were within my vin number. i then proceeded to schedule maintenance on both safety defects on my car set for 3/8/19. later in the day, the service dept. notified me that the steering failure was not under the recall because of the build date of the vehichle. i called ford back on 3/12/19 for another verification of the effect that the power steering was not covered under recall, even though car year and mileage was within extended coverage of a safety recall. they told me again that the steering failure was not under recall due to build date and there was nothing else they could do. they recommended i contact nhtsa.gov to report this issue. due to the fact that the power steering failure was a safety recall in previous 2011-2012 ford fusions does not help explain that a same safety failure would not be included in other mfg. date vehicles with a seperate date.
I was driving the vehicle on a city street when the break abs light came on. took it to the ford dealership and they informed me that the hydraulic control and the electric control where in need of repair at a total of $2749. this is a weird issue that seems like it should be recalled. the car was working perfectly and i have gotten all the tune ups and kept the car up.

I was driving to school and suddenly got a message on the dashboard that read 'service power steering now.' i looked it up to find out that it is a very common problem in a lot of ford fusions. mine is a 2012 with 63k miles and very well taken care of. i would like and hope for there to be a recall on this so i can get it fixed instead of paying ford all that money.
My 2012 ford fusion v6 3.5 has a steering problem, started the car pu it in gear and started to drive and had a hard time steering . the dash had a flashing message service power steering and senatrac needs serviced ford doesn't have this under the recall because of the motor ,hows is this possible if you have a steering part that has a defect doesn't mean the motor or date it was manufatcured has any thing to do with faulty design ford and the goverment need's to step up and address the issue, it could of happened while driving and caused an accident or even a fatality if not addressed, just because of no injuries or fatalities doesn't mean it can't happen. i seen alot of complaints to this problem why can't a person have a safe vehicle let's get the issue fixed!!!!!!
I found out after my steering randomly stopped working that there was a safety recall. i've had the car for about 3 years now and ford is refusing to fix it. they said since it is over 150k miles that they dont have to. they never even notified me about the recall or it would have been fixed already. the car was being driven the the power steering shut off. now i cant drive the car at all and shouldnt have to pay to fix it. i called customer service and the dealership wouldnt help me .

On multiple occasions i go out to start my car in the mornings & i see a warning on my dashboard stating powersteering fault. when i attempted to back out of my driveway i am unable to to turn the steering wheel. i pull back into the driveway so that im not blocking the road. i cut the car off wait a minute and restart and it starts working again. i saw that there's a recall for the powersteering. i contacted the local dealership setup an appointment. took the car in & told me they could not fix it because it didn't show the code during the diagnostic. they then told me that next time it happened to not shut off the car and bring it in or take a picture. i don't know how i can bring it if i can't drive it and a tow truck isn't going to put a running car on the back of their truck. i don't understand if i come to you with a problem that falls into a recall why not just go ahead & replace it? i don't want to be in the car with my kids driving and this happens & i crash. lord forbids if anything happens to any of us nor anyone else when this happens.

My vechicle is in motion and then all of a sudden the steering wheel locks, the car makes noises and i get an error on my dashboard that says steering wheel assist or power steering assit. while this is hapening, i am unable to move the steering wheel. it is locked. very dangerous as i am driving and one day can cause an accident due to this malfunction. this has happened 4 times within the month.
4 times in the past month, my vehicle has experienced a loss of power steering assist while in motion which causes the steering wheel to lock and i am unable to turn. while this is happening, the car beeps and a light comes on the dashboard that says something like steering wheel assist failure or power steering assist. this has occured 4 times and is very dangerous as i am unable to turn the wheel to turn the vechiel to the side of the road for safety. the car is in motion all while the steering wheel shuts down. this will end up causing an accident one day. i have reviewed my vin and i do not see an active recall for this, however when inputing my car information, it shows that there was a recall for the same issue for cars: 2012 ford fusion and i believe my car should have been part of this recall. all 4 times that it has happened, the car was in motion, in a city street while turning the wheel to make a turn. although i do not have a picture to show at the moment, next time it happens i will have one should you contact me and need an image of what is occuring.

I got out of my job on a saturday and once i got to my 2012 ford fusion and turned it on, my dashboard display a message saying "service power steering now". the steering was so stiff to the point that it's too dangerous to drive it out on the streets. i then got on my phone to see if there's a quick fix to it and ended up finding out that my car has a recall for the power steering. so i called my mom to come pick me up and leave the car at my job's parking lot. once i got home i called my ford dealer to find out more about this recall, but their customer service was closed. so i waited till monday to call them, once i called them i ended up finding out that my car has another recall relating to the passenger's airbag. so i had a tow truck take my car to nearest ford dealer so they can resolve the problem. i talked to a representative and he told me since my car had been in an accident (past owner had the accident) that they might not service the power steering but they will fix the airbags for sure. so i left my car at the dealer. later on the day, he calls me saying that cars over 150k are no longer eligible for the power steering service but that they will resolve the airbag problem. to me it seems unfair for them not to resolve the power steering problem because i didn't know anything about any recall for my car and that this a factory defect. it's unsafe to drive a car when it still has a factory problem and can happen anytime, even when i'm driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while operating the vehicle, the power steering malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn in either direction. the failure occurred intermittently and the messages "service power steering" and "advance track" appeared. the vehicle was taken to bob riding ford (3103 n. 22nd st, decatur, il) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 74,000.
I come to you with great concern about a situation that recently happened to me with my 2012 ford fusion. on january 17, 2019, i was driving 60 miles per hour down the road with my daughter. while i am driving with no notice, my power steering completely went out. i was unable to move my steering wheel; the safety of this issue was extreme, and i feel that because this was a recall my experience should be under the safety of the customer and the reliability of the ford industry and the recall would have been granted with no concerns. i purchase this vehicle brand new as a 2012 ford fusion sel, i've been the only owner to this car and i because i must commute to work my miles have been higher than average 2012 cars. two years ago i brought my car into the ford dealership for maintenance that needs to be completed and i asked about the recall of the power steering and they said, "don't bring it in until there's a problem" since i feel ford has never geared me the wrong direction i literally took their word seriously and i didn't do anything about. two years later i now have a serious problem not only was the safety of me and my child at the forefront the problem now the financially it's becoming a barrier to my life. when i called last week, even the ford dealership agreed that you wouldn't have fixed the power steering unless there was a problem. when i call up to ford dealership asking about this recall and them telling me that i am over the mileage of the recall/warranty and they will not cover even a dime of this recall gives me great concern. i called nhtsa vehicle safety hotline and they assured me that there was no mileage restriction on this recall and it was just a tenure range that needed to be completed. i'm asking you to review and i'm requesting that i received the $1800 reimbursement check back.
The power steering went out while i was driving i see there was a recall back in 2015. i have only had the car the car a year. can i take it to a ford dealer and have this and my air bag recall fixed free of charge?
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving approximately 30 mph, the service power steering and advancetrac warning indicators illuminated. as a result, the steering failed to operate as intended. the vehicle was taken to wyatt john ford (located at 646 thompson ln, nashville, tn 37204, (615) 244-3615), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 153,141.
My wife was driving this vehicle turning a curb. the power steering failed causing my wife to hit the curb causing significant suspension and body damage to my vehicle. there is a recall on the 2012 ford fusion for this matter but ford claims that my vin# is not included. please investigate because someone could lose their life in the next incident.
I was driving out of a gas station after filling my tires and as i was driving the power steering went out on the car and error messages came up on the dash. " service power steering now" then another one after that " advanctrac (forgot the rest). i took it to two car repair places and it says its a recall. i looked up the recall and it was exactly the same thing that was happening. i then called ford main number and found out that my car was made in the same factory as the other cars being recalled but becasue mine was outside of the recall dates they can't do anything about it. my friend who works at a dealership ran a diagnostic scan and the alignment sensor in the steering column us running an error. i can't afford the cost of this fix. when what is happening is what's in the power steering recall.
Power steering asst failure. car steering wheel locks up and car is rendered not driveable. problem starts when car is started while in park. has happened 2 times. have had to shut car off numerous times and restart. car is okay to drive after awhile.
While driving my children to school, and already getting close to the drop off location (inside the school and where children already walking throughout the parking lot) the steering wheel locked up making it impossible to steer while my car was in motion. luckily i was just traveling at about 5mph, and there was nobody inform of my at the time and i did not run over any one. when this happened, a message came on the dashboard that read something about steering failure. i had to drive up to a safe location where i left my vehicle parked and had to call someone to pick me up. this is my wife's car but on this day i took my kids to school. had it been her driving or if i or her were traveling at a higher speed i fear there would have been a very different outcome.
I have a 2012 ford fusion, ever since i bought it i have had issues with the power steering. i would go to make a turn and the power steering would go. i almost caused 2 accidents. i would shut the car off and wait about 1 to2 mins and start the car and it would be fine. i called the ford dealer ship numerous times and all i got was "theres nothing we can do". i then take it in for a airbag recall and tell them that the power steering is still doing the same thing. their response was we can check it with a diagnostic test if it reads codes we can replace if not we will reset it. i pick my vechical up and the 2nd day it does it again. i do the same shut it off and restart everything works. it does it for about 3 weeks about twice each week. i go to drive home on the interstate and all of a sudden i loose all power steering. i pull over and shut car off and restart and nothing still no powersteering. i drive it all the home and call the dealer the next morning and get told thetes nothing we can do maam. now they want to charge me 1800 to fix it when it clearly should have been when it was in the shop. i have almost caused accidents do to this issue. i feel ford should fix the issue.
Power steering failure
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving approximately 40 mph, the power steering suddenly failed and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. the cause of the failure was not determined. town and country ford (6015 preston hwy, louisville, ky) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 75,000.
On the evening of dec 29th, upon turning my car on while away on a trip to morin heights (quebec, canada), a "power steering fault" flashed on my dash, and i was unable to turn my steering wheel. neighbours in the cottage told me to drive to a gas station 1 mile away with my blinkers on, and ask for power steering fluid. i barely made it half a mile out of the morin heights village, when i got stuck making a sharp right turn from rue allen to rue bennett to get to esso (723 chemin du village, morin-heights, qc). my steering wheel would not turn right, and i dangerously ended up in the lane facing opposite traffic. i tried to turn it left and continue going straight, but got stuck in the middle of the intersection. cars nearly hit me and everyone was honking at me. a stranger pulled over next to me and used manual force on the steering wheel to steer my car back around, and drove it to the esso half a mile away. i bought power steering fluid, only to discover there was no compartment to put it into, and learnt that this is an intermittent electrical problem. we parked my car at the gas station and debated how long i'll leave it there for, how i'll drive back to ny 480 miles away, how i am going to resolve this meanwhile it's -15 degrees celsius outside and i'm getting frostbitten. after turning the car back on, the "power steer fault" warning disappeared and my steering wheel was back to normal. next day all service shops were closed (sunday), and monday was new years holiday. i was nervous about driving this unsafe vehicle in the middle of the christmas/new year holidays back to ny, but had no other choice. i am absolutely mortified that after so many complaints to ford corporate about my airbag replacement, this had to happen. i demand a replacement vehicle and for someone to reach out and do something about these recalls that are issued, yet no action being taken.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving at an unknown speed in a parking lot, the power steering seized and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the power steering indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer (bayou ford, 555 belle terre blvd, la place, la 70068, (985) 652-8000) where it was diagnosed that the electrical power steering needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: cas16783979. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 123,000.
While driving, the service power steering now light came on, make it very hard to take.turns on roads, in driveways ect. after doing some research i found that this is a similar recall for ford in 2015. however my vin number is not displaying the recall fornthenpower steering issue. this is a very dangerous situation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. while driving 35 mph, the power steering seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the vehicle was taken to perry ford of national city (2050 national city blvd, national city, ca 91950, 619-477-2711) where it was diagnosed that the power steering failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
Power steering just went out with no warning as i was about to make a turn. was almost in a wreck. extremely hard to turn and dangerous. ford knows this is an issue yet they don't want to fix it on this car.
2012 fusion with 62,000 miles. when stationary, it makes a sound when you turn the steering wheel just slightly either way. mechanic says the electric rack and pinion is the problem and it sounds like this is a common issue. i don't think i should be having this issue at only 62,000 miles. this is a very expensive fix. sounds to me like there should be a recall on this.
I was driving at night time around 35 mph and the power steering alert light came on. following that another light came on for advanced track warning. either way my car was not included in the power steering recall for my car same year, make ,and model. i was informed this by ford. prior to this my car was driving fine and this happened all of a sudden. now the car is very hard to turn, fine to steer, and very hard to park. i do not plan on fixing and plan to move on from ford because of this issue. after researching about this same issue i also discovered this has been a regular occurrence for this same year, make, and model car. also i noticed that ford did nothing sans the recalls to rectify this same problem that occurred to similar cars not included in the recall.
At 2:00am 12/19/2018 i was parking in front of a resturaunt to order food my steering wheel was working just fine. after coming back outside to leave to go home the steering was very difficult to move. i couldn't turn left or right.
