Note: the ford dealership could not find and engine code may 17, 2013 @ 2:00 pm: pulling out of the parking lot at work for lunch.the "throttle control/transmission" indicator lit up, the car became silent and all power left. -i put the care in ?p? park -started the engine and it acted normal -took it in to ford, they said that they could not find a code related to that and instructed me that the next time it happens to drive directly to kendall for them to read the ?code? off of it. june 11, 2013 @ 7:30 pm: driving from springfield to 13the street in eugene. everything was normal, but then when i made a right turn onto 13th street then about 1 blocks later?the ?throttle control/transmission? indicator lit up, the car became silent and all power left. -i put the care in ?p? park -started the engine just like you normally do when you get into the car. the key acted like it was stuck a little bit before it returned to the normal position. june 11, 2013 @ 8:15 pm: driving from eugene to springfield. everything was normal.i took the ?center city exit? in springfield and the ?throttle control/transmission? indicator lit up, the car became silent and all power left. so i did a test?.. -i put the care in ?p? ??it idled normal and smoothly -i put the care in ?r-n-d-m? ??the idle sounded spotty like it was skipping and then it sounded wavy. not smooth and even like it did in ?p?. -started the engine just like you normally do when you get into the car. the key acted like it was stuck a little bit before it returned to the normal position. -on the way home from springfield, at red lights the car idled spotty and wavy not smooth. *tr
I was on the expressway with the cruise set at 72. the car itself shut off the cruise and began immediately de-accelerating. pressing the gas pedal had no effect - the engine remained in idle. the wrench bar indicator lit up. i pulled off the side (huge potential safety issue had there been traffic around) and shut the car down in neutral. restarted - same issue - would not accelerate - it was as if the throttle was disconnected. i put the car in park, shut down, waited 2 minutes, and restarted. all functioned normally. ran the vehicle health report test and no indication was made of an electrical issue. . *tr
Stopped at an intersection and went to accelerate and had no throttle control the wrench light came on. car idled through intersection and rolled into gas station. when i then turned it off and then restarted it and the wrench light was gone. car seemed fine for approximately two weeks, and then the same thing happened again. this is a very big safety issue. *tr
Driving 70 mph on road heading home, car stalled/no power, gauges died, was in right lane and able to pull off to right shoulder without getting rear ended. once stopped, put car in park and turned off key. wrench light also showed in dash before turned off. sat for a few minutes with car off, then restarted car. no lights in dash when restarted, so put car in drive and took off down the road. as i accelerated, car stalled/lost power again, gauges died, dash lights of engine and wrench appeared this time, steered to right shoulder and again was able to get off without being rear ended. turned key off again. sat for awhile. started car again, engine and wrench light were on in dash, pulled out onto the road again, driving slowly. turned car around and headed to repair facility. drove slowly without going above 50 mph, lights stayed on in dash and made to repair facility that was about 3 or 4 miles away, driving slowly, not the usual speed limit for the road. repair facility read the code which came up throttle body and suggested contacting the ford dealer. waiting for return call from ford service manager at this time. found investigation opened by nhtsa in march of this year regarding faulty circuit board for the throttle body. *tr
Experienced a sudden loss of power while traveling at highway speed (55 mph). was able to pull over to shoulder, and shifted transmission to park. stepped on gas pedal, but no response by car. turned car off, waited 10-15 seconds, and then re-started car, with the re-start taking 3 to 5 seconds longer than normal on engine turn over. drove home without further incident. happened again the next day, and took the car into dealer. replaced evaporative purge valve, ($342 charge, car is only 2 years old, but out of warranty on mileage) on 6/14/2013. on 7/7/2013 and again on 7/8, car again experienced the same sudden loss of power. drove car to dealer and they diagnosed the problem as electronic throttle body ($318 repair). *tr
On friday evening (5/10/2013), i had just exited the interstate when the wrench light came on and the car suddenly appeared to stall (engine was running, but had no acceleration). with traffic stacking up behind me, i managed to get the car off the road and turned it off. after sitting for a minute or two, i restarted the car and continued down the road. the car died again less than two miles later. vehicle was taken to the dealer the on following monday 5/13/2013 (after sitting all weekend). the dealer checked the car and determined the throttle body was bad. as of today, 5/26/2013, the car is still at the dealer waiting on a replacement part. *tr
My wife in busy traffic at rush hour felt her car begin to shake badly, then lose power, she coasted to the side of the road nearly being hit by passing traffic. at the time the wrench light came on, we brought the vehicle to ford on may 10th, picked it up on june 10th, on june 11th the same problem... this car is again at ford dealership with what is being called a throttle body issue. we were scheduled to travel over 900 miles each way at the end of this month and have chosen an alternative. we're not even sure that we'll have our vehicle back. this is a very scary situation, in researching i'm finding many complaints for this same issue and it doesn't appear close to having a solution. *tr
I was stopped at a light and when the light changed the car got up to around 15mph when the car stalled. i then put the car in park and was able to restart it. it ran fine for a few days and then there was another incident. i was at another stoplight and made a right hand turn. the car stalled again and was able to be restarted after placing the gear in park. *tr
Twice within the same week while driving, the engine throttle suddenly disengaged. the first time i was making a left hand turn with oncoming traffic. second time was driving on surface street which forced me to pull off the side of the road. extremely dangerous! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving at various speeds, the check engine light would illuminate and the vehicle stalled. the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the contact indicated that the pcm was re-programmed, but the vehicle continued to experience the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000. the vin was not available.
Accelerating from a stop at green traffic signal, my 6 cylinder fusion accelerated to approximately 25 mph and the engine stopped. i had no problem coasting into a nearby parking lot on my right. i turned the ignition off and after 10 seconds i restarted the engine. i drove home without incident afterwards. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated the vehicle stalled without warning and the wrench light illuminated on the instrument panel when the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined there could be a problem with the throttle body. the throttle body was cleaned and the failure occurred within two weeks. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was unknown. the current mileage was 15,797. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the warning indicator. the engine was restarted and the vehicle resumed normally. the failure recurred nineteen times. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who informed the contact that the warning indicator would need to be illuminated in oder to perform a diagnostic test. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000.
Driving on highway at 65 miles went car would lose power and couldn't accelerate and car started to shake when came to a stop, cut car off, waited a min, cut car on, took a couple extra cranks before turning over, and car worked fine this had happened 3 times and is very random and dangerous. *tr
I purchased a 2011 ford fusion on 2/28/13 with just 24,320 miles. approximately 1 month later i was having trouble starting my vehicle due to continual stalling. initially, the vehicle will start (cold engine) in the morning without any problem. the problem occurs primarily when the engine is warm and almost daily. if i leave work at lunchtime to run an errand (4 hours later) the vehicle will stall numerous times and is followed with idling very high rpm?s (2,000). there is also a very strong smell of gasoline present. i took the vehicle back to the dealership to fix the problem. the dealership claimed they found nothing wrong. the problem continued and i again went back to the dealership for further inspection. the dealership kept my vehicle for 1 week and acknowledged the stalling problem and claimed that this is most likely due to the change over from winter gas to summer gas. on 6/15/13 i could not get the vehicle to start with the smell of gas present once again. after 2 hours of sitting in the garage i tried once again and the vehicle started up. i was so excited when i bought this vehicle and now i am much stressed, frustrated and wanting a new operable vehicle. *tr
Had the vehicle for about 2 months but had only driven it about 1500 miles. (mar. 22, 2013 - 26,800 miles) i was driving along a lane road doing about 50 mph when the car suddenly lost power. almost got rear ended. was able to barely limp the vehicle to a stop on the right shoulder but it would not move even when the gas pedal was depressed. the mechanics light came on and the rpms began floating between 800 and 1200 but with no power to the transmission. turned the key off and restarted it and it regained power but then it happened one mile later. same symptoms. restarted it again and lasted another 2 miles where it happened again. the third time i restarted the car it took about 20 secs of cranking before it turned over. i then drove it 15 miles directly to the ford dealership i purchased it without incident. ford ran a diagnostic sweep on the car and could not find anything wrong. they told me it would have to br brought in with the problem showing since the black box does not record these types of issues. i had the impression they have not seen this type of error or could not recall it. have now driven the car additional 40 miles withoout incidents but makes me wonder about the manufacturer if they aren't concerned about safety issues. i thought the recession and past decade taught them a lesson in doing it right for the consumer/? *tr
While driving on cruise control approximately 70 mph, the car lost all acceleration. the engine is 4 cyl. engine light came on. coasted to right of freeway and came to a stop. turned ignition key to off and then restarted car. placed in drive and drove and accelerated fine there after. *tr
I was going through a school zone on my way to work. when i reached the end of school zone i attempted to accelerate but the engine would not. there was no throttle response and the engine was in a very rough idle. i pulled over, shut the car off, waited about 5 min and started it back up. on start-up, the engine cranked a few extra times before it finally turned over. i was able to drive again after that but noticed that the rpms jumped around when i was in third gear between 1500-2000 rpm. seeing the rpms jump around like that made me think that the engine was going to lose power again, as it is characteristic of this problem. this is third time this has happened to the car. *tr
Driving the car, it will have sudden loss of all power. the throttle control/transmission light indicator comes on. you have to turn the car off and restart. owners manual states to take to the dealer if it stays on or continues to come on.this has happened numerous times over the last six months. friday 3/8 it happened twice. took to the dealer. state they are unable to repair due to no code in the computer. they had it 5 days, put 100 miles on it trying to get it to do this again. safety issue is this occurring while in an intersection of on the interstate. no solution offered by ford. states have to have a code. no instruction on making sure the code is recorded by the computer. when engine restated clears computer. *tr
I was driving on the highway and i started to feel the car jerk forward slightly about once every ten seconds. about a minute or so later i could no longer accelerate and the amber wrench light was illuminated. i coasted to a stop and pulled over onto the shoulder. when i came to a stop the rpms were very erratic and bouncing between 500-1000. i shut the vehicle, waited a minute, then started it back up. on start up the engine cranked a couple more times than usual but finally turned over. the car ran fine and i was able to continue driving. *tr
I had just got off the highway and was in rush hour traffic. traffic had come to a complete stop. when traffic started to move i attempted to accelerate and the engine rpms immediately dropped to around 500 and were very erratic. the engine was running very rough and the amber wrench light was illuminated. i was unable to accelerate and had to idle the car off the road to a nearby parking lot. i turned off the car and looked under the hood but couldn't see anything wrong. i started the car back up and it ran fine; the amber wrench light was no longer illuminated. i took it to autozone to have the obd2 codes read but it didn't show any codes. *tr
While driving to work one day my car shut off right after a turn going down a hill, the dash was illuminated and no lights were on other than the dash. i put the car into park and turned it off then started it right back up, it ran fine after that. there is another issue as well though, while driving it hesitated by shifting at higher rpm's than it should and took it to dealer on monday february 25, 2013 and they still have it with no explanation as to why it did any of those things that i mentioned. the only thing that the service guy says is "well until it is billed out i do not know what is going on with the car." i am very frustrated and just bought this certified pre owned two weeks ago. there should be a lemon law on certified pre owned cars, this is not cool. it has caused a headache for me and now i am stuck paying for a car i cannot even drive right now. *tr
I purchased a 2011 ford fusion se on february 22, 2013. i drove an hour and 15 minutes to the dealership to get this vehicle. on my drive home, i was sort of skeptical about the car because on the ride back, up and down the hills, i could feel a slight uneasiness of the car but thought that was just the how it was. the next three days it drove fine around town. on the fourth day, on my way pulling into work, i braked at the stop sign to let traffic go and as i let off the brake the car did not go anywhere. i sat there about 3 or 4 minutes before i could get it to go. once i got home, i left out to go to a store and parked to go inside. i came out and the car would not reverse. it took me about 15 minutes of constantly cranking it, shifting gears and pressing the gas before i could get it to move again. i love the car and its features but i hate that this is happening. what can be done to keep the car and avoid the problems with it? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the throttle body box would have to be replaced. there was an investigation under nhtsa action number: pe13003 (engine) that could have been related to the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
had the vehicle for about a month but had only driven it about 600 miles. (feb. 21, 2013 - 21,700 miles) my wife was driving along a 4 lane road doing about 50 mph when she noticed the car suddenly losing power. she was in the left hand lane with no shoulder or room to move to the right lane because of traffic and was almost rear-ended by a dump truck who had no idea she was rapidly slowing down because she wasn't putting on any brake to indicate this. she brought the vehicle to a stop but it would not move even when the gas pedal was depressed. she thought it had stalled but later told me she didn't notice any dash lights on. she turned the key off and restarted it and it ran fine the rest of the way home. called ford dealership where it was purchased and he asked about engine code lights (of which none were showing ). he said without a code he couldn't do anything. ( march 7, 2013 - 22,400 miles ) turning a corner from a stop the car accelerated and then lost power, engine seemed to sputter and run rough, pulled over and stopped. wrench light on dash was on, depressed accelerator pedal but nothing happened. engine was running but tachometer didn't move at all when accelerator was depressed. turned engine off, restarted, wrench light went off and ran ok. have also noted that transmission shifting is not always shifting as smooth as when we first started driving it. it seems to jump or lurch in at least one of the gears but this is just an intermittent problem right now. i will take note of this and report back. On the morning of february 7th 2013, i noticed the vehicle's acceleration and deceleration was ridged and jumpy. prior to this problem, the vehicle has shut off randomly approximately three times while in drive and in motion. this prompted me to bring the vehicle in for maintenance at a ford dealer auto center. they determined the power takeoff unit and drive shaft were faulty, replaced both parts and returned the vehicle to me on february 15th 2013. on march 18th 2013, the vehicle shut off again while driving at highway speeds on a busy road, forcing me to navigate cautiously to a shoulder. the engine light and wrench light were illuminated this time. i shut the vehicle off, waited 5 minutes, and restarted. the engine light remained on and the vehicle was drivable. i quickly returned the vehicle to the previous ford auto center, in which they discovered the throttle body was faulty. they replaced the throttle body and returned the car to me on march 21st 2013. on march 22nd 2013, the engine cover fell off while the car was in motion, i immediately returned vehicle to the previous ford auto center, they replaced with new engine cover. as of today, the vehicle is again showing hesitation at acceleration and deceleration, rpm dash meter needle bounces plus minus 500rpms during acceleration and deceleration. breaking is not smooth or instant, the vehicle tends to jump during breaking. at coasting speeds, the vehicle also jumps. these are similar problems that occurred prior to the vehicle spontaneously shutting off. this problem is alarming and an extreme safety hazard to yourself and others around you, notably at high highway speeds. ford has been presented with the issue and has claimed that the issues are all unrelated, even though the vehicle shuts off each time. i am concerned for my safety and the safety of others driving this model, 2011 ford fusion sel awd.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the engine lost power with the illumination of the wrench warning icon and the check engine warning light. the contact pulled the vehicle over and allowed it to sit for a minute before he was able to proceed with driving the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 23,000.
While driving at highway speed on an incline, the car lost all propulsion power. after several seconds, the check engine wrench light turned on and i pulled over to the side. shutting down the vehicle, waiting 1 minute and restarting cleared the check engine light and restored power. the same thing happened 6 weeks later, while idling at a traffic light. after restarting, the system failed again 2 minutes later while driving on level road at 15 mph. the car rested for 2 hours and was then driven without incident to the dealer for repairs. the service technician performed eec test, ppt and component tests, then replaced the throttle body. no subsequent incidents after 1 week. *tr
Vehicle began to shake, would not accelerate, wrench light came on. *tr
While approaching a red light, the vehicle seemed to slip out of gear and lose power. the wrench light went on and when i went to accelerate, the vehicle would not do so. i was able to limp the car to the side of the road and turned if off. when i restarted, it ran fine. i took the vehicle to the dealer the next day and they could not find anything wrong as no codes had been tripped. i did not have another incident until june of 2013 at which time i was driving at 55 miles per hour and again, the vehicle just lost acceleration and the wrench light went on. luckily was not in heavy traffic and able again to get to the side of the road, turn it off and restart. i took the car back to the dealer and again, no code tripped, nothing could be found. on the way home from the dealer and driving at a speed of 60 mph, again the same problem. i took the vehicle back to the dealer the next day which was june 12, 2013 and they gave me a loaner car to drive until they determined the problem. . on june 18, the dealer called me and said i had to bring the loaner back because the part they needed to repair my vehicle (the part being a throttle body) was on back order and would take a few days to come in. it is now june 26, 2013. the part is still not in, according to the mechanic at the dealership, this part is in high demand!! what should that tell anyone???? my car to date on average loses acceleration at least 5 or 6 times a trip no matter how far i drive, it's extremely dangerous! thus, i now i have to rent a vehicle at partially my expense ( have extended warranty) it seems to me i shouldn't have to pay anything for a rental!! this is a ford manufacturing issue, and in my opinion should be investigated for recall!!! *tr
I bought this 2011 ford fusion at 40,000 miles and since it has been at 45,000 miles i been having stalling and idle problems . i thought i was going crazy until i seen an article in the news today . my car has stalled on the hwy to where on numerous occasions i have almost been hit. i have had to pull over and restart it. i also see the wrench when it happens. i also have been sitting still at lights to where my car would idle up real fast. my car also pops and gets stuck when i change gears. i hate this car. i just pray something gets done before someone really gets hurt including myself .... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle as it resumed normally. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. there was a concurrent investigation associated with the failure under nhtsa action number: pe13003 (engine). the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 22,000.
Driving on the highway at a rate of 70 mph with traffic behind and ahead of me, i lost power and the car went into limp mode. the wrench light and check engine light went on. i could no longer speed up and began to lose speed (rather quickly i might add) the car immediately behind me came very close to colliding with me! i couldn't go faster than 30 mph and had to pull over on the shoulder of the highway. i turned the car off and when i tried to turn it back on, it took an oddly longer amount of time to turn on. (like holding the key turned in the ignition) then sitting at a traffic light, when i started to go when it turned green, i was going 5 mph and the rpm's shot up to 3000 rpm! under 40 mph, it was up near 3000 rpm! ford, please examine this again! this is dangerous! why wait until an accident actually happens? *tr
As i was driving down a crowded highway the vehicle lost power and refused to accelerate. it was later determined that the throttle body had malfunctioned. *tr
My car lost power and we had to pull over to the side of the road. eventually i got it started again, limped to a ford dealership, and was charged $591 for a throttle body replacement. *tr
I have now twice experienced the same problem described in the news articles from this date regarding engine stall. the first occasion, the vehicle was driving on a surface street at approximately 40 mph when it suddenly stalled. the second occasion was while i was trying to enter a freeway at between 50-55 mph. after the engine was turned off for a minute, the vehicle started working again properly. *tr
While driving my 2011 fusion on the road at 55 mph, the engine suddenly quit and the wrench light came on. the slowdown was fast, and i could have been hit from behind very easily, but i lucked out because the person behind me took notice of my drastic drop in speed. i coasted off to the side of the road, turned off the car, waited a few moments and then restarted the engine. fortunately i got home ok, so i thought is was maybe a fluke occurrence. when i left for work the next morning, the same thing happened as i was driving; same road, same speed, same wrench light, etc. when i got the car restarted, i took it to the local ford dealer. they thought they had fixed the problem with a relay switch(?), but once again, the engine quit while i was driving back to work that same morning. this time more than the wrench light lit up. i went through the restart routine again, but this time it was not a very smooth start - i did not think it was going to start, but it did, and i took it back to the dealership again where they are currently trying to figure out what the problem is. this is a considerable safety hazard to anyone traveling with me and/or driving my car, and an unsafe environment for those driving near me. my car has been at the dealership most of the day now, and no word on the problem or rectification thereof. i am extremely concerned and very worried this issue will "mushroom". *tr
The car just will just stall out while driving on freeway or street. i know from what i have read that it is the throttle body. it loses all power and just dies while driving. this has happened multiple times and the last time my kids and i almost died in the car. it is awful how this happened and the part was backordered and is extremely expensive to fix. *tr
While driving at highway speeds, the engine will go into a very violent idle and the throttle will become un-responsive and an orange wrench light will come on the dash. this has happened twice now in a week and is very dangerous when it happens. you have to try and navigate through traffic to get off the highway while coasting only since you can't give it any gas. ford has to know about this issue since its everywhere online and everywhere on this website. it is a very serious issue and needs to be fixed. ford won't fix it under the power train warranty even though its a critical part of making the vehicle go. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while traveling 62 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact was able to merge to the side of the road to restart the vehicle. the vehicle seemed to be functioning normally when the failure recurred. the vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's destination and was not taken to a mechanic. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the issue. the failure and current mileages were 56,000.
Driving normal for around an hr then all of a sudden a lighted wrench shows on dash and the accelerator does not engage properly and car feels like it is very rough and low idle. power brakes and power steering work fine and can pull over but was in a turnaround for a highway access rd. turned vehicle off and turned it back on again and it worked ok. next day it happened twice, one of those times just from the start of turning on vehicle and trying to leave parking lot of work, and second time was on a 45mph rd which felt dangerous. same thing accelerator stopped working and it coasted down till i could put in park and turn of vehicle and turn back on. it does not work if you are coasting and put it in neutral and turn off and on as the problem is still there. afraid of it happening on highway. seems like a software or sensor issue with throttle body as when you do give it gas on the peddle it feels like the throttle plate is blocked or trying to open up but not enough to go just small weak spurts. *tr
While driving on the freeway, the engine stalled. a wrench symbol came on the dashboard. the car started lurching forward and was nearly hit by two other vehicles from the rear. i was able to stop. i turned off the engine and after a few tries, the car started up again. this has occurred at least another 20 times since then. i've spoken with ford over the phone repeatedly and explained that there are numerous web sites discussing this as a throttle body problem. but ford refuses to acknowledge the problem and have told me that they're not even sure if it would be covered under the power train warranty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that whenever traveling over 40 mph, the wrench warning icon illuminated and the vehicle would loose power. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal would also become heavy and resistant when the failure occurred. the vehicle had not been to the dealer for inspection of the failure. the failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 41,000. *tr
While entering interstate 275 south on ramp in tampa, fl my car abruptly stopped responding to the gas pedal and the little wrench light came on. all i could do is coast to a stop on the side of the road. once my speed slowed to around 5 to 10 miles per hour, the car began to jerk and shake. i put it in park, turned it off and restarted the engine, and it worked like normal for about another month or so until it happened again while i was turning right on red on a major 5 line street. since then it has happened at least 20 times and has become increasingly more frequent. after a little research on the web, it seems hundreds of people are describing the exact same problem. i mean exactly in every way except for the speeds and locations. the oldest model that i recall seeing this problem described about online is a 2010 with only 15000 miles on it. this is a potentially very dangerous issue, that in my opinion, needs to be fixed. when i was making that right turn, the car just stopped in the middle of the road and i had to quickly restart the engine and floor it to avoid causing an accident. *tr
It has happened before to my wife on two other occasions. so i took the car out and drove it around and was coming back home and after turning onto our rode and got up to 45 mph the wrench light and the check engine light came on and loss all power. step on the gas pedal and there was nothing. rolled over to the shoulder and put in park and waited for a couple of minutes and restarted it. went about another 300 yards and it did it again. did some research on the internet and ford has been having this problem with the fusion and there other cars like the escape. they all came down to the throttle body being bad and had to be replaced. but my question is if they have been having this problem for awhile why hasn't ford or someone put a recall on these throttle body's. this can cause a serious accident if a person is going down the highway and this occurs the person could be possibly rear ended. *tr *js
While driving in the center lane on the southbound i-5 freeway my 2011 ford fusion began to feel like it was driving through mud and lost acceleration. when i attempted to compensate by accelerating the car, it resisted and continued to slow significantly. thankfully traffic was not extremely heavy at the time and i was close to a freeway exit. i pulled to the right, avoiding oncoming traffic (barely) and coasted down the off ramp. by the time i got to the off ramp (about 10 seconds) the car had gone from 65 mph to less than 5 mph. if it wasn't for the momentum of the vehicle i would not have been able to make it and would have been at a dead stop in the middle of the freeway with oncoming traffic (and semi trucks) going between 60 and 75 mph. the engine was throbbing, the car was shaking, and i had no acceleration capability at all. i had enough momentum on the off ramp downslope to turn right and stop my vehicle at the side of the road. i called a tow truck and the car was taken to a dealership for repairs. i was told the throttle was the problem and it was replaced under warranty. had timing not been exactly right, this problem could have caused a very serious or even deadly accident for me and for other drivers on the road. i have since learned about this ongoing issue online and wish i would have known at the time that it was a problem and known how / that i could submit a concern to the nhtsa.
The car continuously goes limp at highway speeds and also while in traffic. it is intermittent but has occurred over 50 times. there are times where it will die on me a dozen times in a 10 mile drive. the wrench and emissions warning lights go on and i lose all ability to accelerate but do not lose electrical power and the engine does not turn off. restarting the vehicle temporarily fixes it, but also clears the warning lights so my mechanic cannot diagnose the problem. it is so dangerous and just a matter of time until i get in an accident. there are no warning signs before it happens and no remedy other than restarting, whether on the highway or in the middle of an intersection. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the wrench warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. there was also an increase in the engine rpms and the engine lost some of its power. the contact was able to maneuver to the shoulder and the vehicle towed to a dealer. the dealer was able to start the vehicle and perform a test drive. the dealer informed the contact that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. the failure and current mileages were 23,000. updated 8/31/12 *cn the consumer stated the vehicle duplicated the failure on august 2nd at 23,500. the dealership in knoxville replaced the throttle body. the failure did not recur. updated 09/11/2012 *js
Traveling at freeway speed, engine suddenly lost all power and reverted to idle rpm. engine was idling roughly, and pressing on accelerator would not increase rpms. the "wrench" (check engine) light was illuminated. was able to coast downhill to exit freeway; very unsafe condition. switched off engine, restarted engine ... and it ran normal; "wrench" light extinguished. took car to walnut creek ford following morning; they said no fault code was recorded on the cars computer and they could not replicate problem. service rep told me ford had no records of any previous problems of this nature, so i should just keep driving the car. i told him that was unsafe, and he replied there was nothing else he could do. he said he "could not just throw parts at an unknown problem"'. same problem occurred on nov 01, 2012. i did an on-line search on various ford fusion forums and found multiple reports of this same situation with v6 engine attributed to throttle body housing. immediately took car to walnut creek ford and told service manager i would not accept the car until it was repaired. showed him copies of multiple on-line reports of same problem and told him his rep had lied during my previous visit about ford not knowing of any previous reported problems. service manager replied that "on-line reports are not always real", but said he would have his best mechanic check my car. mechanic found defective throttle body housing and replaced. have not had recurrence of the engine failure. *tr
