Powersteering and tcs failure. took it to the ford dealership to get repaired and told me it was the steering rack and pinion. a week later problem occurred again and now they're quoting me $1000.00 for another service claiming it will fix the issue. issue occurred as i was driving on the highway, i-35 placing my life in danger.

Power steering failure while driving

Driving down rural road, steering wheel locked in place, applied brakes, hit guardrails. minor damage, but potential for very serious accident

The power steering stopped working, it became impossible to maneuver and control. it has happened three times. the first time it was a recall. it failed again and on 7/30/2016 the steer gear was changed. yesterday it failed again while driving the car which is very dangerous and could be very harmful. i am concerned about driving this car with my family.

2011 ford fusion power steering failed while driving through parking lot. first received multiple failure messages at this time power steering stopped functioning completely. upon investigation i found there is a recall on this make/model and year. recall covers vehicles manufactured at the hermosillo plant in mexico from september 7 2010 and on. my vehicle was manufactured september 6 2010 (one day prior to the beginning of the recall) after multiple phone calls i found; ford would not help. after looking into this further i found this is an ongoing issue with many owners. a representative from ford said their hands were tied until ntsb directs them to modify the recall dates. i was lucky. this could have turned out much worse had my wife or daughter were driving on a busy road. unsatisfactory response from ford. major safety issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while the vehicle was stationary, the "power steering assist fault" warning indicator illuminated without warning. the failure occurred again while driving various low speeds and the power steering assist fault warning indicator illuminated. an unknown ford dealer was contacted and stated that the contact would have to bring in the vehicle when the warning indicator was illuminated in order to determine the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 130,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 40 mph, the "service power steering" warning indicator illuminated without warning. the contact stated that the steering wheel became stiff and difficult to steer left or right. ford prime of auburn, massachusetts was contacted and stated that the power steering module needed to be replaced. in addition, the dealer stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the contact was unsure of whether or not the vehicle was repaired per the recall by the dealer. the failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

Car is a lemon recall repair was done in june 2016 for recall number 15s18. i purchase the car in nov 2016. and have lost steering power to vehicle took it to ford dealer they said it was past the milage and could not be covered want to charge me 1500 to fix something that was repaired due to recall call ford corp. they said same thing.

Was driving on highway and the power steering assist fault notice came up and felt tight steering. pulled over and restarted with the same notice. had to keep driving with out power steering. it has now been out for 3 days. found out there was a recall for this on the 2011 ford fusion but my vehicle is not covered in this recall. why not. same issue as recall. i am very lucky i didn't crash. further research shows that there are thousands more like me. ford doesn't want to pay to have all vehicles with epas recalled. now they want to stick me with the bill whis is 1/4 of the value of the car. the vehicle was maufactured 07/10 and has only 37500 miles.

We were notified that a recall for the power steering on my daughter's car was recalled. she was siting in a parking lot and the "service power steering now" light came on and she couldn't steer the car. so she called a tow truck and they took it to the dealer. after a whole day, the dealer informed us that they reset the computer and that we were going to have to pay $1300 for a new rack and pinon because the power steering module was defective but it was located on this "bracket" and they don't cover that. then when my husband went down there, they informed him that ford won't fix the part because she was over the mileage and time frame. she had been telling us that the car was pulling to the left really bad, which is also a reason for this issue. we bought this car used from a used car dealer. how were we supposed to know there was even a recall on it let alone a time limit? i have done research to find that many accidents have occurred because of this faulty part and ford refuses to fix them? how is this safe? i do not want my 18 year old daughter getting in a wreck due to faulty steering and killing herself or someone else. something has to be done!!! this is not the first of this issue being reported either. i can't believe ford has not been forced to correct this problem and that everyday accidents could happen because of it. this could kill someone! i can't believe that this has been going on for years and there is still no solution.

Electronic power steering assist gear intermittently fails causing the steering on the vehicle to be incredibly difficult to steer at low speeds. when the power steering assist fails at intersections this car becomes sluggish in steering response. i fear this will result in an accident. this ford fusion only has 120k miles. this vehicle falls outside the ford power steering assist gear recall range and the ford customer satisfaction program representative (ryan) stated this particular vin is not covered under the recall and stated they are not responsible.

The car had few recalls and few warranties issues since i purchase the car. for the specific, right now, my car has a "power steering assist fault " ford issued a recall for the model fusion year 2011 related to this problem, that is a major safety problem because the steering wheel will lock in place. fortunately mine locked when i start the car. i had aaa towed my car to my mechanic, and then from there to the ford dealer because they couldn't help my mechanic with information unless the car was at their location for a diagnosis ( that i need to pay for it), a diagnosis that my mechanic did for free. now, the recall that ford has in place do not include my vehicle, they said that the vin number is not included in the recall, and that is nothing they can do about it: so we are looking at the same model, same year, same specific problem.... but they refuse to extend the recall to mine! the repair, which btw, is not a part of a vehicle that needs to be repaired, replace or maintain in the lifetime of the vehicle, will cost over $3,000....... i cannot repair the car. ford cs, suggest me to repair the car, telling me to save the receipt in case ford decide to extend the recall. additionally, i was offered 10% discount.... wow i am a single mom, have a special need son, lost my long time ( 17 1/2 years) job, and work only part time ... i am desperate! i need to have the car working, i cannot afford to pay that much money and i think that this is insane !! the dealer and the ford cs told me that they cannot share their findings with the customer, but only the decision, which is to not include the vehicle in the recall.

tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the power steering warning light illuminated. the vehicle was driven to the driver's residence. the dealer at: apple ford, lynchburg, virginia, was contacted and asked for the vehicle to be brought to the shop for a diagnostic test. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the vin was not provided. the failure mileage was not provided.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle lost power steering ability. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000(steering); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the o c welch ford dealer was contacted and refused to do the repair due to the manufacturer's qualifications for the recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and did not offer assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 151,000. parts distribution disconnect.

I pulled up to walmart and went in then came out started my car and it started beeping. it read on the task power steering assist fault and the stereo ing was hard and tight. i googled it online and see. it had a recall so i called the recall center they asked me how many miles i had on it and i told them 168,000 and then they said to toe it to a ford center rand it will be fixed free of charge and also i'll get my toe money back. but after the service guys tried to reset the electric steering module they realized it was already broke and burnt up. they called me and told me it will be 1700 to fix it. that i had to pay. i said no it's a recall the recall center said it was free. i guess it's not free. day a everyone i called at ford refuses to pay for it. even tho it's a recall. i'm so upset. they said if i was within 150,00 on my car they would pay. but i'm not.

I have a 2011 ford fusion. i was driving about 30 mph and lost control of the power steering. i was unable to control the vehicle and hit a parked car that was on the side of the street i was traveling on. causing damage to both vehicles. the previous evening before the accident, i had gotten into the drivers seat and started the ignition. in my message board window on the dash board it said power steering assist failure. i tried to turn the wheel and had no power steering abilities. so i turned the car off, and restarted it and it was no longer an alert on the board and i was able to turn the wheel. there is a recall on the power steering control module. recall # 15v340 manufacturer's recall # 15s518 ...

Upon starting the car, the power steering assist fault light comes on and there is no power steering assist. the steering is almost impossible to control. upon turning off the key and engine and restarting the engine there is sometimes, but not always power steering assist. have also had a failure of the power steering assist while driving which could be catastrophic and dangerous. while driving had to find a place to pull out of traffic so the key could be turned off and engine restarted to gain power steering assist again. very dangerous situation that should be recalled and repaired by ford motor company. there are not photos to upload related to the problem at this time.

Power steering stopped working while turning.

Power steering assist failed suddenly while driving. when steering is out on these vehicles is actually almost impossible to turn the wheel. i have driven old vehicles without power steering and this is twice as hard to steer. this vehicle is equipped with the epas. apparently many people are having the same problem. i contacted ford and they dined coverage because the epas software was updated in 2015 as part of a recall for defective epas. the software update did not accomplish anything as the epas failed after the recall software update. this is a huge safety concern that needs to be address asap, i guess ford is waiting for fatal accidents to start occurring and increasing before they do something about this power steering defect.

I was driving and i heard a beeping sound. i looked down and it said something about power steering advance. i'm trying to get home, and then my wheel lock up.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while attempting to drive, the shifter was placed in reverse and the accelerator pedal was depressed. the steering wheel seized and the contact was unable to maneuver the vehicle. the power steering assist indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not assist. the failure mileage was 66,000.

At first i was hearing a creaking noise whenever i turned the steering wheel. i took it to the repair shop on a cold day to get it looked at but the creaking noise went away and they could not find anything wrong with it. then a last week on a hotter day the creaking noise came back. the next morning, i turned on my car and tried turning the wheel and an "advancetrac" light came on. i turned off the car and turned it back on and the light went out and i was able to turn the steering wheel again. i still had the creaking noise. then yesterday i went to turn my car on the "power steering" light came on and again i couldn't turn the steering wheel without a lot of pressure. i turned my car off and back on and the light went off, and i was able to drive fine again. this happen 2 more times while driving in a 3-hour period where the light turned on. i immediately stopped my car in the road and had to turn my car off to get the "power steering" light off and get control of my car again. that same day i went to the same repair shop and they tried diagnosing the issue and this time the "power steering" and "advancetrac" light got stuck on. they said i needed to get my car to the ford dealer immediately, so i had to drive my car down the road (same street) with the "power steering" and "advancetrac" lights on and blinkers on since i had to use a lot of strength to make the turns i did have to make to get it to the dealers service center. i was super scared because the road was narrow and curvy and i felt like i wan'ts going to be able to make the turn and run into another car.

When i turn or go over bumps the car makes a loud squeeking/grinding noise. this started to occur after my power steering assist was replaced a month ago. several reviews also state this is a very expensive fix. my car only has 60k miles on it for a 2011. this is completely unacceptable!

In july of 2015 recall notice 15s18 / nhtsa recall 15v-340 was issued. this recall made aware of an issue with the power steering components of certain model year ford fusions. my power steering broke in my 2011 fusion in the summer of 2015, and was replaced under the recall. less that 2 years later now the same two parts that were replaced under the previous recall have broke again. this time around there is no recall that covers the expenses. in both incidents i was driving on a straight road and my power steering service message popped up. in both cases i parked my car and turned it off and back on again. both times when i turned it back on my power steering was shut off, and was no longer working. this second instance of my power steering breaking is the same exact way it broke the first time. it seems as if the ford dealership replaced the defective power steering parts with more defective parts.

tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while reversing the vehicle, an abnormal noise came from the panel and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. in addition, the power steering failed and went to manuel steering however, the power steering reset independently. the failure recurred four times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where he was informed to go to local dealer. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the failure mileage was unknown.

Power steering assist failed (warning appeared on dash) and vehicle was very hard to steer at low speeds, especially when turning. i almost ran into a curb because of this failure and the effort required to turn the steering wheel. after shutting off the vehicle and restarting it, the fault warning went away and the power steering worked. the power steering later failed and the fault warning reappeared. the local dealer cannot get it into service for a week and i am hesitant to drive the vehicle at speed for fear of loss of power steering again. research has indicated that this is a common problem with these vehicle. it is a safety issue and should be covered under a recall notice.

My 2011 ford fusion seemed to be operating normally after a drive of about 2.5 hours, beginning at about 7:30 a.m., mostly on highways, on sunday, april 9, 2017. the drive was from arnold, maryland to perkasie, pennsylvania. the weather was sunny and mild. when i started the car after it had been parked with the ignition off for about 30 minutes in perkasie, pennsylvania, the steering wheel was very hard to turn. i drove the car several miles on secondary roads and the steering remained extremely stiff at slow speeds, but somewhat easier to handle at higher speeds. i also noticed a steering assist fault message on the display. i then parked the car. after the car was parked with the ignition off for about 10 minutes i restarted the car. at that time the steering operated normally again. i drove back to arnold, maryland without further steering problem.

The power steering assist failure light came on several times when i started my car. i looked in owners manual which stated to turn off and restart which let me drive. but it stated to call dealer. i called dealer which said that it was under recall. the next day the dealership told me that my car was not included in recall. it is the same part that is under recall on other 2011 fusions but not mine. now i have to pay $1,000 to replace the steering gear.

This is a complaint with ford's recall 15s18. the recall was performed on my car (only software update). when the recall was performed there was no diagnostic trouble codes found in the power steering control module. since this recall was performed i have experienced loss of steering. the steering locks up and i have only manual steering while driving. car was in for service and was told the steering gear needs to be replaced. i was told this is my responsibility at a cost of around $2000.00. the recall clearly states the steering gear would be replaced under this recall. i contacted ford about this and i was told the recall has been performed and the replacement of the steering gear was my responsibility. this car is unsafe to drive and a recall was mandated by the nhtsa, and ford will not resolve this recall. i was told with the amount of miles on the car the recall doesn't apply anymore. this should be ford's responsibility to replace the steering gear if their is a know defect in the part. it should not matter the amount of miles on the car. if there is a defect in the part it should be replaced under this recall the consumer should not be responsible to repair the car due to the know issues regardless of the miles on the car.

Around one out of every five drives, my power steering would fail soon after starting the engine. 2 error messages pop up: - power steering fault assist - service advancetrac once restarting the car, the problem usually clears. if it persists, i will switch off and restart the car and it usually clears and does not come up till the next day or a later drive. it seems to be a common problem among many fusion owners.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while idling, the power steering warning indicator illuminated. previously, the vehicle would be operable after it was manually restarted. during the most recent failure, the steering did not have full functionality after being restarted. the vehicle was taken to karl flammer ford (41975 us-19, tarpon springs, fl) where it was diagnosed that the steering was defective and the steering gear needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referenced nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the contact was informed that recalls were vin-specific and nhtsa would need to be contacted to add vins to a recall. the failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

Was backing out of a parking space (in motion, turning the wheel) and the car gave a warning signal and then it said power steering failure. i could not turn the steering wheel at all. i restarted the car and then it was okay. my husband said that the same thing happened to him a week ago when he turned the car on, he was stationary at the time. he restarted the car and it it was fine.

Started car and dashboard display stated "power steering assist fail". i had no power steering at all trying to drive home. power steering system failed and has to be replaced. ford said there is a recall for this, but my vin does not apply even though it is in the years recalled.

Backing out of parking spot and power steering abruptly failed with power steering assist fault error. very hard to steer. took to dealer and was told i had previously had steering reprogram under recall. diagnosis steering rack needed to be replaced at $2000. luckily it failed in parking lot. main concern is recall reprogram had been done in timely manner. these racks should be mandatory replace problem waiting to happen.

Driving down the road & power steer went out couldn't steer car almost had accident! message went across check power steering now. drove home very slow. will call dealer in morning. afraid to drive!

One night i was driving in the city to run some errands. the vehicle was in motion approximately 30 to 35 miles per hour in a main street when i suddenly hear a sound coming from my vehicle alerting me that the wrench light detected a malfunction. at the moment i was alert and viewing my dash regarding the illumination it threw until i suddenly felt my steering gear become really stiff and pulling me to the side near the curb really fast. i had lost control of my vehicle to steer that resulted in my vehicle jumping up the curb and colliding with a light pole damaging the passenger side of my front bumper and passenger front and rear door. the majority of the damage happen to my vehicle which left scratches, dents, and paint and body damage to pretty much the right side of my vehicle. the light pole considering the impact from jumping up the curb assisted in not causing any street damage toward the street light. i reported the incident immediately to my insurance company to file a claim. eventually i was informed by a few of my coworkers that there was a recall issued about the steering gear on the 2011 ford fusions. i took it to my ford dealer in which was a really horrible experience since they automatically closed there door in my face when i informed them about the steering gear issue and recall. there excuse was my vin did not match the recall issued so there was nothing they can do. ford then quoted me over $2000 for parts and labor and programming. i was so pissed and left empty handed since down the road i had no choice but to purchase the steering gear and yet to still sell me a defective one that i had an outside shop perform the work twice. after my repairs i spoke to the service manager for a reimbursement in which till this day, they do not want to issue me one.

While driving, the car faces a sudden loss of power steering and a "service advancetrac" warning message comes on at the same time. the warning light for the traction control stays on. power steering resumed after some time but the "service advancetrac" warning message and traction control warning light stayed on. this happens almost weekly and seems very dangerous. i was very lucky to not have this happen while on a freeway or at a turn. *tr

Vehicle shut down several times while traveling at low speed on a city street. also, the door on the driver's side will not open from the inside of the vehicle.

Power steering assist failure while driving and turning making vehicle difficult to control. recall was issued on this and computer upgrade installed. i was not warned that this could be very dangerous and would most likely occur. shutting off engine and restarting temporarily fixed, but has happened again. less than 80,000 miles on vehicle.

1. takata recall- air bag: air bag sensor or light goes blinking for 30 mins or more than it switches to the panel light and stays there lit up.. 2. steering column-stiff and grinding noise: when it drives backward reverse it makes that noise and when on the road it begins to make loud noise, then the steering gets hard to steer. 3. ac coolant does not blow cold air: does not get cold and blows out warm air only.

Power steering fails. unable to steer vehicle at all..this has been a problem for quite some time when first starting the vehicle but now has progressed to more frequent and during normal operation on the road.dashboard warning states'power steering assist fault'. this failure has occurred at various speeds but usually at lower speeds.

No problem so far but never received a recall notice to have checked. all recalls should have been corrected as of january 2017, when we had the car to the dealership for other recalls.
