Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 66 700 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

My 2010 fusion is experiencing the same loss of power issues (complete loss of accelerator response, followed by the wrench light appearing) related to the defective throttle body control. while sporadic at first, the frequency of the incidents has increased to where failure now happens almost every time the car is driven (the 25+ failures have occurred in all situations, at all speeds: at highway speeds, on side streets, accelerating up hills, pulling away from stoplights, etc). i have stopped driving the car because the last throttle failure occurred as i crossed a busy 4 lane highway and could've resulted in a deadly accident. when attempting to have the problem fixed in april, my local dealer claimed ford had placed a "hold" on all throttle bodies and that a new design of the throttle body part was being shipped from the supplier in mid-may. (the dealer also informed me that, despite this being a part of the engine, the throttle body is not covered by the powertrain warranty.) when my "new" throttle body arrived at the dealership in mid-june and i came in to have the part replaced, i was told ford had placed another "hold" on the part and my car could not be serviced at this time. if ford will not fix this problem on their own, it is imperative the nhtsa protect consumers by forcing the company to address this problem and to do so at no cost to the car owners. for owners who are forced to drive this car, this is a life and death issue. *tr

Car appears to stall for no reason. apparently (according to ford) the car was not completely stalling but instead going into a "limp home mode" when car computer detected an engine problem. car was brought to dealer and they replaced the throttle body which corrected the problem (over $400). this "stalling" effect occurred on interstate 95 in west palm beach florida, where speed limit is 65mph, which put us and others at considerable risk of crash and injury. i subsequently read that this component defect and stalling symptoms was a ford fusion "epidemic". *tr

This is the second time my 2010 ford fusion stalled while driving on the freeway. the car will just start limping and will not accelerate. once i maneuver the car safely onto the side of the freeway and turn the car off i am normally successful in restarting the car and resuming my commute. the check engine light will stay on, and once you refuel the vehicle all symptoms and warning lights are no longer present. this problem is an obvious safety hazard and needs to be addressed by ford's engineers. *tr

Traveling on the pa turnpike the engine just stalled. we had to negotiated to the side of the road with no ability to negotiate around traffic. notified ford and sands red hill ford and they said there was nothing wrong. it happened again traveling around 45mph. i saw complaints online (web) and paid sands to have them replace the throttle body. after replacement the problem was fixed. the cost was 385.51. *tr

First incident: vehicle was traveling about 40 mph and would not pull up a shallow grade hill about 1 mile from the house. car was started "cold". wife pulled off road and engine died. "wrench" symbol came on dash. i arrived about 15 minutes later and started car to move it further off the road. it ran so i took it back home, no apparent issue. called dealer and got it in the next day. dealer is about 2.5miles from my home. dealer could find nothing wrong and we drove it home. did not drive it for about a week. second incident: wife at a busy controlled intersection. car would not accelerate when light turned green. called me after getting car started and moved to a safe location about 1/2 mile from intersection. "wrench" and "battery" lights came on dash. about 2 hours later we took the car to the dealer with no apparent problem. dealer informed me the computer coded a throttle body issue. throttle body changed. we have not driven the car over 10 miles since then. wife no longer trust car. *tr

While driving home the vehicle lost all acceleration and the wrench light came on. the rpms dropped to below 1000. i was able to safely pull over where the car shook and died out. i attempted to restart the vehicle and it would not start. i waited a few minutes and was able to get it started. *tr

Loss of power at highway speed. vehicle decelerated and would only idle. wrench symbol lit. shut car off restarted and car was ok until next incident. failures became more frequent including failures in rush hour highway traffic. additional failures occurred at slower speed. diagnostic at the dealer was a throttle body failure. *tr

As i accelerated from a red light, the car sputtered and seemed to stall. the wrench light flashed on but didn't stay on. since it drove fine after that, we didn't take it in. about a month later, it happened again. i researched it online and realized many people are having the same problem. we called ford and scheduled an appointment. it happened 6 times in a 20 minute drive before we got it. ford replaced (at a charge to us!) the throttle body and it has been fine since. *tr

I was slowing down as the traffic light turned red. the engine stalled and cut out. the wrench warning light came on. it took several tries to get the car started. over the next several days, the car stalled while we were driving on a major highway in traffic at 45 to 50 miles an hour. we took the car to a ford dealer who diagnosed the problem as a short circuit in the throttle body and motor assembly. they replaced the parts at a cost of $438.64. we have since learned of other fords of the same age having the same problem. *tr

We were driving around 50 mph when the car stopped accelerating and we slowed down to 5 mph.the wrench light and check engine light lit up. luckily, there was nobody on the road behind us or we might have been killed from the sudden change in acceleration. we were told by our dealer that the throttle body needed replacing. they replaced it but the check engine light is still on. it was not covered by warranty (i was told by ford customer service that no warranty covers that part). how convenient that they specifically don't cover a part that is clearly defective. i am not sure if anyone has died from this problem, but i have two teenage sons who drive that car and i don't trust it anymore. after reading all of the complaints on this site, and elsewhere, i demand that an investigation be done into this faulty part before someone is injured or killed. thank you. *tr

While traveling at highway speeds car will stall and have no power. found to be throttle body sensor. ford claims that there was no problem with the throttle body, but if you search the internet you can see several of cases involving the same problem. i feel ford should have to repair under a recall because of such a wide spread problem. this is a huge safety concern when traveling and highway speeds and you lose power. *tr

While driving on a major highway in the fast lane, the fuel seemed to suddenly cut off. there was no response to the gas pedal. the engine was running at idle and the car abruptly slowed down forcing me to pull over. this was quite frightening due to the fact that i was in the fast lane and needed to get over to the right shoulder in a hurry. after turning on the flashers and turning off the engine, my wife reminded me of this incident occurring twice before to her recently but on local roads. we had brought the vehicle to ford and they didn't find anything wrong. after a minute or two i started the engine and proceeded to move the car and realized that the engine was now responding to the gas pedal. i drove home and brought the car directly to the ford dealer.they ended up replacing the throttle body which costs us $497.79. they said that it was not covered by ford's emission warranty (5 yr/ 50,000 mi). i believe that this is a safety issue that can easily lead to injuries and possible fatalities unless it is immediately addressed. this should be a recall! *tr

While turning left on a green arrow my accelerator became unresponsive, engine did not stop running but would only coast @ about 2 mph, wrench light icon and check engine light came on. the car was jerking during this slow coast to the side of the intersection. i had to put the car in park and completely shut it off.(as i was hitting my hazard lights and praying i didn't get hit by oncoming traffic as the light had changed by this time.) after a rough restart, it appeared to run fine. i took it to the mechanic and had my fuel system cleaned, but after doing research and finding many owners of the ford fusion have had this recurring problem, seemingly with their throttle body, i am very afraid to drive my car as this problem occurs with no warning beforehand and at all different speeds. i did notify ford customer service and was told that they had no customer service complaints about this problem. when i informed them of all the complaints online, they explained that they only acknowledge "official ford websites". i pray that ford will issue a recall and fix this problem before somebody dies. *tr

The first instance i was driving as normal in my vehicle and with out warning going 50 mph my car shut off with no power or ability to do anything besides to try and coast off the road and out of harm. a wrench light flashes when it occurs. the second time i was making a turn at approx 20 mph in a four way light intersection and lost power over the car again with a wrench light appearing again. the only way to gain power again is to put the car in park turn it off and wait a bit to restart the vehicle. when you restart the car the wrench light is gone and the car acts like there was never a problem and runs smoothly. after a 2 day diagnosis by ford they state that the throttle body is the cause of the problem. in total i have had this happen 5 times with out any warning going various speeds and luckly avoiding multiple accidents. like mentioned above after starting the car the wrench light disappears performing as usual. *tr

I was traveling at 60 mph and the lost all power. i was in the middle of three lanes so it proved difficult to get to the right break down lane. i turned the engine off and after about ten seconds i was able to restart the engine and return to the highway. the same problem occurred again about a half a mile further down the road. once again i turned the engine off and restarted it. the problem did not happen again that day. i had the problem looked at later that afternoon at a local ford dealer who diagnosed it as a faulty throttle body assembly. the car was 3,000 miles out of warranty. ford corporate customer service did not feel they should pay for the repair. this has occurred twice in the past in december and each time i was traveling 60 mph in heavy traffic. this could have resulted in a very serious accident. something needs to done. *tr

While driving car at any speed, will lose all power, go down to 20 mph, pressing gas pedal does nothing, have to get to side of road, car will shake violently till you shut it off. take at least 4 to 5 times to start again and have power enough to get it going again. engine light and wrench lites come on, engine light stays on but wrench lite will go off. had my 3 grandchildren in car going over a set of 3 railroad tracks and car lost power, was able to cruise over last track and get off to side of road, just as i did railroad gates went down due to approaching train. also have lost power going thru intersections, on interstates, roads that have very few places to pull over. this has been a true nightmare driving this car, i have had many situations that not only have been very dangerous to myself but also my passengers and most important my grandchildren. took car to dealership back in january, they replaced charcoal cannister which helped for approx. 2 months. since then problem has occurred at least 3 times every time i drive it, took back to dealership, they say tough luck, not under warranty anymore. have researched on-line about this situation and looks like i am not the only one. please help! *tr

My ford 2010 fusion, when at a traffic light, stop sign, etc.. would stall when i put my foot on the accelerator with very little response. then it will finally pick up speed. i have not experience the "engine shut down" as of yet and i hope i don't. after reading the other "complaints", now i know what the problem is. will take care of it as soon as possible! *tr

My car is a ford fusion bought in march 2010 with only 33,400 miles, still under full warranty. i was driving in city traffic, going about 50 mph, when my accelerator stop working. the wrench and check engine light came on as well. i was able to coast into a parking lot safety, thank goodness. when i started to hit my brakes to stop, the car jerked a bit like it did not want to stop. i stopped, shut off the engine, and it started back up ok. no lights on the dash. i then pulled out into traffic again and not even 5 mins later, it happened again. i coasted into another parking lot, turned the engine off and back on. this time the check engine light stayed on. this proceeded to happen 5 more times before making it to the dealership. the dealership said it was due to a dirty throttle body and that it needed cleaning. i spent $250 to clean it because cleaning is not covered under warranty. two weeks later, i was on the interstate going about 75mph when this all happened again, thank goodness i was not in heavy traffic or i would have been hit from behind. i was able to coast over to the shoulder and restart my car. i drove it straight to the dealership. they called some hotline and were told to replace the throttle body altogether. i have not had any problems since but i wish i had known this earlier. i was terrified of getting into an accident and wish ford would have recalled it before this happened. i pray that no one is killed because of this simple part that should be replaced on all fusions. *tr

At approx. 52k while drive approx. 40mph, all fuel power was lost and 'wrench' light came on. had to coast to a stop, car sputtering. put in park and killed the engine. waited a minute, car started with some hesitation. ran diagnostic, nothing. about an hour later, ran some b-12 through fuel; cured. twice again at approx. 56k, same thing (once at 70mph on the interstate and the other at 55mph on a busy highway); ran b-12 both times. on third event, it finally gave a reading - throttle body stuck in open position. brought vehicle to ford dealership, they got the same reading and changed the throttle body to the tune of $350. ford stated there was no technical service manual indication of problem forcing a possible recall. how lucky for me and my kids that we weren't in a high-traffic situation and i could safely maneuver to the shoulder...all three times! *tr

After driving my car a few minutes, the car started to stalled and i could not accelerated. the car just started shaking and finally stop running with the wrench light coming on. i had to turn the engine off completely and tried to started it again, but the wrench light was still on and kept on shaking again. i turned off the engine and waited approximately one minute and it started again. i was lucky to be able to pull over, but i am asking the federal government to investigate ford fusion problems with their "throttle body" that has multiple troubles reports from ford fusion owners. how can the government allow vehicles that are dangerous to drivers when the vehicles start stalling on the road and especially on the freeway. please demand ford recall their fusion to replace the "throttle body" stalling problems and reimbursement the owners for their cost asap. *tr

Ford fusion 2012 3.0l v6 sel goes into "limp-mode" without warning at highway speeds. a slight shudder immediately before tripping the "limp-mode" where the accelerator becomes disabled. no or minimal power is available to pull out of traffic safely. wrench light comes on, however, the engine is still running. once the car turned off and restarted, the car runs normally until the symptom happens again. no other symptoms are present prior to going into "limp-mode". brought the car to a mechanic and they could not find any saved engine codes and could not reproduce the problem. no work was done to correct the problem due to no evidence of it in the computer. has happened three times at highway speeds, without any warning, and creates a hazardous driving experience. *tr

First event was while exiting a mall parking lot; stepped on gas pedal, and instead of accelerating the car seemed just about to stall. i got off to the side of the road, and before shutting off the engine noticed the "wrench" symbol illuminated on the instrument cluster. i waited a few minutes and started the car, noting the "wrench" was no longer on, put it in gear and drove off. the car ran fine until 12/28/12, when while traveling at approx 70mph on i-90 the engine began to again down shift and lose power. the third occurrence was the morning of 12/29/12; in each above incident i was able to get off the traffic way, park, shut off the car, restart it and drive away. the wrench was illuminated each time. on 01/03/13 my car was serviced by the dealer from where i purchased it, and they said the problem was the throttle body. they had one in stock and replaced it. kudos to them, but, more than a little unnerving. and if it was replaced with the same style unit, how do i know it won't happen again, perhaps at a most inopportune time? at the time of writing this i don't have the vin available, however, fwiw, the build date is june 2010. it is the sel awd with the v-6 engine, 3.0l i believe. *tr

As i was driving to work november 28, 2012 the car died. luckily i had already exited the highway and was only doing app. 30 mph. i pulled to the side of the road and attempted to restart the car. i finally got it to run, but it was running terribly. i nursed the car to where i worked and called a tow truck. it was towed to kings ford in cincinnati (about 20 miles from where i work). the mechanic verified a "dtc p2112" code for a throttle body stuck. it was replaced by kings ford and although i was under the 36 month warranty period i was over the mileage (3 year/36,000). i was charged 442.81 for the repair. this is ridiculous for a car that was less than 3 years old. i complained to ford and was basically told "too bad". not happy with any ford product now. i manage a 330 vehicle fleet where i work. do you think i'll buy a ford again? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that he noticed a puddle of liquid near the front passenger side of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection where they advised that there was a hairline fracture on the fuel tank, which would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the failure mileage was 165,000.

I pulled out of my office parking lot onto higway and car stalled and seem not to get gas. engine light came on and i had to shut car off and restart it until i got to a auto shop and there they put it on the computer and said i had to take it to the dealership which i had it towed the next day because it was after the dealership closed. they kept it for 3 days said it was the accelerator which they replaced said it was fixed. 2 weeks later the engine light came on again and so i took it back to them they replaced my catalyic converter said it was fixed. about a month later the same thing happen so i took it back to the dealership and they kept if for 3 days and said they couldn't find the problem because it didn't show up on the computer. i have taken it back to them 3 more times in which the last time i that it out with the service manager and owner. finally i took it to another ford dealership and they kept it until they found the problem which was a bad throttle body which i had been telling the other dealership service manager and owner all along. i had to pay $505.43 to get it fixed because my waranty had gone out. car is now fixed i pray but it took taking it to another ford dealership. *tr

This is the second time in a month that we have had to have the throttle body repaired. the first time, there were error codes that could be used to correct the problem but in less than a month the same problem occurred and this time the entire throttle body has to be replaced. while driving the car lost the ability to accelerate and all propulsion systems did not work. the brakes worked fine but there was no response from the car when i pressed down on the accelerator. this problem needs to be fixed and a recall should be ordered. i have had to pay for this problem 2x and could have been hurt when i was unable to accelerate on the highway and just able to get off the road in time. *tr

I was driving down freeway, my speed around 65 mph. the car starting stalling, there was no response from the gas pedal. i manage to get my car to the shoulder after crossing 4 lanes. i put the car in park and the car eventually stalled out. i restarted the car; it took a few extra seconds than usual. the car drove fine to work. it happen again when i left work at an intersection (pretty scary) 35mph. i pulled to the right lane and put car in park, shut down sputtering engine. i restarted and made it home through rush hour. the next day, friday morning, i pulled out of my garage the stalling started within 20 yards from garage at 5mph. then again when i got off work but this time it occurred multiple times; once as i was entering the freeway on ramp. stalled 3 times on freeway, i manage to get off the freeway on next off ramp after 3 restarts. the car kept stalling over and over no response from gas pedal every few feet i had to restart. there was no way i was going to make it home. i didn't trust my car for safe driving. i managed to get my ford fusion to a ford dealership close by. the ford personnel said they never heard of ford fusions stalling. they punched in my vin in the computer and found no recalls. since it?s a holiday weekend, car won?t be looked at until tuesday. no loaners cars available from ford, i had to rent a car for the time being. i goggled 2010 ford fusion stalling and it popped up right away. i found out that it has been happening for quit awhile to ford fusions. many other ford fusion owners are describing exactly what was happening to my 2010 ford fusion. i?m surprised ford has not come out with any recalls. someone can get hurt or even killed in traffic if this discrepancy isn't addressed by ford. *tr

While driving under normal conditions, at approximately 45 mph, engine suddenly stalls, wrench light comes on dash board, no power to engine whatsoever. pulled the car over onto shoulder, engine is shaking violently at this point, shut the car off. waited approx. five minutes, turn car back on, no problem. no more wrench light, no longer stalls. i took the car into a ford dealer and they said i had a bad o2 sensor. so they replace it and say that will fix the problem. when i dropped it off i told them to look at the electronic throttle body because a lot of people online had posted about the same type of problem and the throttle body was to blame. the dealer told me they checked the throttle body and it was fine.' ha!! however approximately 1-2 weeks go by and the same thing happens again with no warning. driving down the road everything is fine and then suddenly the car stalls, no power to engine, shaking, wrench light comes on again. this happens 3 times in a span of about 7 miles. i bring the car back to ford and tell them what happened. they call me back a few hours later and say yeah you've got a bad throttle body (but it was "fine" two weeks ago?) they then proceed to tell me that it will cost approx. $465 and it's not covered by any warranty. i also spoke with the dealer that i purchased the car from and they told me over the phone that they were getting a lot of these 2010 fusions with faulty throttle body parts and that if i had it replaced it would actually be a different design than the original factory installed version. yet i had to pay to have it replaced. *tr

Throttle body failure: fist occurrence- driving on highway all of a sudden no power. pressing on the gas nothing happens. no check engine light came on. pulled off to the side of highway and put the car in park. the car starting shaking and the wrench light came on. turned car off, then back on and everything was okay. about 6 hours later this happened again as i was passing in the fast lane, then suddenly lost power. again, no check engine light. same scenario as the first. took it to my mechanic and no error codes register. he checked twice. so for a week and a half the car was fine. then happened twice again, no warning, just lost power. this time a check engine light came on after i put the car in park. had it towed to the auto shop and a code did register this time. had it taken for ford and they had to replace the throttle body. this was a very dangerous situation especially when speeding up to pass as the speed limit on that part of the highway is 75 so cars were coming up fast behind me. if i had caused an accident and injuries occurred the fist or second time it happened on the highway, it would have seemed my fault and there would have been no error codes to at least validate what happened. please, please, issue a recall for the throttle body before someone is hurt. not to mention the people just out of warranty that have to pay for this repair. *tr

Car would not accelerate engine light came on i turned car off started and it ran for about 100 feet and would not accelerate towed to dealership and they replaced the throttle body and motor assembly i'm glad we were not on the highway. *tr

2010 ford fusion loses throttle control. engine nearly stalls then begins to rattle violently. ford dealer says the throttle body must be replaced. *tr

Engine shut down to very slow idle when starting from intersection. barely able to get vehicle out of road. this has now happened 4 times, each time when moving thru intersection. this is very dangerous when traffic is approaching from all directions. after engine has been shut off a few minutes it runs ok. it happened twice on the first occasion then ran good for 5 days when it shut down again, then ran good for 6 days when shut down once more .i see on the internet that this is happening to lots of other fusion owners. it's just a matter of time until someone is crashed into because of this stalling. the problem seems to be the throtte body needs replacing. i think ford needs to recall these vehicles now before a tragedy occurs. *tr

Driving at 40 mph engine went into "limp mode". the engine remains running, but no power. pulled over and shut engine off. restarted and ran fine except the problem recurred several times over the next few days at all different speeds. losing power and/or speed at highway speeds or in traffic could prove to be very dangerous. took the vehicle to a ford dealer. they informed me that the throttle valve was sticking and the throttle body needed to be replaced. i was also told that this occurred because of the gasoline additives that the federal government mandates, but now i am hearing that it is probably from a defective circuit board. very expensive repair for a fairly new vehicle. problem has not happened since the repair was done. *tr

I own a 2010 ford fusion with 19000 miles. i haven't even had it a month yet. it is a certified pre-owned vehicle. driving home from work yesterday, i stopped in a line of traffic at a red light. the light turned green and i accelerated. during acceleration, the car jerked then lost all forward momentum and "puttered". i was able to "putter" to the side of the road out of traffic. i put it in park and noticed that the wrench light was lit up, so i pulled out the owner's manual to see what it meant...powertrain. i turned the car off for about 5 minutes then restarted it with no other incidents on my way home. thank god i wasn't in any heavier traffic or multiple lanes! from what i've been reading, some people have lost acceleration going 50+ mph in interstate/highway traffic! if this problem isn't addressed, and soon, someone will be seriously injured or worse due to a defect in ford's design. *tr

On the highway with my little girl in the back going 65 mph, then suddenly the car went limp, lost all power. i barely made it the shoulder. i was so scared i took my daughter out the car and stand her on the far side of the road. the car was idling very rough, with the service engine wrench on. i had it towed, but i could have saved some cash because after restarting the car it ran fine. the dealer said they could not find anything wrong ' no error code, they test drive it and could not duplicate the issue. turns out if you shut the car off it clears the error code, how stupid is this! who is going to keep the car running while getting a tow. i drove it for about a month then it happen again, and sure enough on the highway again. i took it back to the dealer and from my research on the web i told them to change the throttle box,' let's hope this fix the issue. *tr

Driving along. car suddenly seemed to loose power. i seemed to kick out of gear and stopped responding to the gas pedal. i had to cost to a stop. the "wrench" light came on when the problem started, but after i cut the key off and restarted the "wrench" light was off and all worked fine. this happened 1 time the first day and twice the next. nothing else happened for 3 more days but on the fourth day the same thing happened. each time i had to coast to a stop. one time i was in a very dangerous situation, since the coast stopped in the middle of a curve on a very dark road. *tr

At 11:45 pm, i was traveling west on i-64, at 68 mph, when my car quickly decelerated. despite my applying more gas, my car continued to lose power rapidly and began shuddering. it was then that the "wrench" warning light came on. i immediately pulled over to the side of the road, turned my vehicle off and put my hazard lights on. i waited for a 5 minutes before starting the car again. the car started roughly but did not have any power and could/would not accelerate. it was at this time that both the wrench and engine warning lights came on. again i turned off the car and waited. after another 10-15 minutes, i turned the car on again. this time it started without incident. the wrench warning light did not come back on but the engine light remained on. i kept my hazard lights on and remained in the breakdown lane while i drove approximately 5 miles to the closest exit off the interstate where i promptly parked my car. *tr

While driving my 2010 3.0 ford fusion on secondary roads, the car suddenly lost power. after 5 minutes, it could be restarted and driven but after approximately 30 seconds, it would lose power again and coast to a stop. it stranded my wife and daughter until towed to a dealer. the dealer diagnosed a bad throttle body, and charged approximately $700.00 to replace the part and perform a recommended fuel system cleaning. repeated email to ford customer service resulted in a denial of responsibility because they were under no warranty or recall obligation. i spoke with a service writer who told me that this problem appeared to be consistent for fusions. *tr

Throttle body malfunctions while car is at speed. the "wrench" light appears on the display and then the car loses power and begins to shudder. turning the car off and restarting it resets the display and starts fine. problem is intermittent but dangerous as the car stops working while the car is going anywhere from 25 to 45 mph. *tr

The wrench light came on and stayed on steady and the car suddenly lost all engine power. headlights stayed still on and hazard lights worked. i tried starting the car but pressing the gas pedal produced no movement of the car nor any increase in engine sound. after trying to start it several times, it seemed like it started but not a normal start. the engine appeared to be very rough but again, no fast engine sound. it kind of limped to the side of the road which was on a very slight incline. no pressing of the gas pedal produced any significant movement of the car. the car was violently shaking as it limped to the side of the road at maybe 2 miles per hour. once i got it to the side of the road out of traffic, i did turn it off. i gave it about 30 seconds and it started normally. no more wrench light. it seemed to work fine after that. i drove home ? about 90 miles with no further problems. i reported the problem to our local ford dealer. the dealer has been supportive. ford motor company has not been supportive. when i called the ford dealer explaining the symptoms, the service coordinator?s first question was, ?is it a fusion?? he already knew it was a common problem with fusions. he said that i am not going to like what he had to say. he said that ford will not allow him to do the 30-minute repair unless a code is available in the obd unit. i brought it in and no code was found. they tried for two days to get it to code. the service manager pleaded with ford?s upper level to allow the repair but they were inflexible. their response ? ?no code, no repair.? ford?s customer relationship center was useless! they offered no help. the local dealer had six cars the week after my car died with the exact same issue as mine. i was placed back on the road with ford knowing i would again be stranded. it happened again 4 weeks later. *tr

I have a 2010 fusion. i purchased the car as a certified pre-owned. the car stalled 6 times on the way home last night. the wrench light would go on and there was no throttle response. the car would shake and sputter. i would shut the car off and restart and could proceed for a short distance. the last time it stall on the freeway on ramp. i took it in and let the dealer know what had occurred and they called back indicating it is the throttle body. i am out of manufacturers warranty. the cost is $500. the power train system is covered but the throttle body is not (even though the throttle body causes the power train to go into stall)? at what point will they make the choice that the throttle body that is in these cars are not up to par and a safety hazard and make it a recalled item? *tr

I was slowing to a stop when my car shuddered and the engine seemed to die. i had a error symbol for the transmission and the engine had no more power. it was stuck in idle now even though i was just doing 35 miles per hour coming to a stop. as i finally braked to a stop the engine was surging, but when i pressed the gas pedal, nothing happened to the engine, it was as if it was just turned on and placed in drive only. i didn't know what to do, i had to get through 2 intersections on idle speed only. i finally pulled over past the intersections and turned my car completely off. i then turned it back on and it was working normally. i took it to the ford dealership, who told me this is common after a new battery is placed in these fusions. they noticed my recently purchased used car (purchased about a month before this) had a brand new battery in it. they told me with a new battery, the carbon builds up dramatically and damages the throttle body. so i need to buy a new throttle body and have the cars acceleration computer reprogrammed. and this might happen every time i get a new battery? please investigate this occurrence with other ford dealerships. i have reading this same story all over the web. why doesn't ford do something to correct this issue? *tr

75 while driving at highway speed car would stop being responsive to the accelerator pedal being depressed. the car would go into limp mode and shake violently. the obd system's & the wrench(powertrain light became illuminated . i proceeded to pull off on to the shoulder of the road and turned the car off. lights reset and car would run okay. this occurred 12 times prior to the obd codes could be determined. code p2111 and various related codes. throttle body stuck open. this problem could potentially have caused a fatal collision in heavy traffic. *tr

I was driving along and the car just quit going forward even though it was still running. it would not accept more gas to move it forward. after waiting a few minutes, i could start it and it would move forward for a bit and then do it again. i finally found a place i could pull off the road and walked the rest of the way home. when my fiance came home a few hours later he went and got the car and it ran without a problem and continued to do so for a month or so when it happened again but this time it started and ran again after just a couple of minutes. i took it to the dealer where i bought the car and they couldn't find the problem. the next time was in august 2013 and a fault finally showed it was the throttle body. of course this was after my warranty was up and now i have to pay over $600 to get it fixed. i have been doing research and why hasn't a recall been issued? i am now 900 miles from home and the problem happened again while on my way to indiana where i am moving. i was stuck for hours on i 30 w until the car finally decided to move again and was able to get me into auburn, indiana where the ford dealer will have to fix it before i can head home and i have no guarantee it will fix the problem if just the throttle body is changed. i hope it isn't a computer chip on the mother board! *tr

On freeway going 65mph with cruise control in pause mode. when i tried to accelerate i heard a noise, the wrench light went on & i lost all power although the motor continued to idle at very low rpm. after being towed, the car started right up and seemed fine. took it to ford and they found no codes coming up. 3 weeks later the exact same thing happened. ford again said no codes. i read all of the reports about the bad electronic throttle body problems people were having, i told the dealer to replace it even if they were not going to pay for it. the dealer insisted he had never heard about this problem even though i gave him 11 pages of complaints from the nhtsa website. ford did not pay for the repair. this can be a very dangerous safety issue. i was lucky enough to get off to the side of the freeway in time before getting hit. there should be a recall. *tr

Read in paper that you were looking at ford throttle body. i was in fast lane on i-66 on a friday afternoon. suddenly car stopped. i was lucky there was room on left apron to pull off. car restarted when i tried--went 1000 feet and stopped again; now in right lane and pulled off. knew there was an off ramp 1/4 mile ahead and limped on apron with cars passing. the entire situation was very dangerous in my estimation. when restarting, it was hard to tell if auto was running or not. when restarting auto backfired etc. prior to this incident had reported to ford dealer that transmission sometime "clunked" when i put auto in reverse in the morning. they found no problem. have not had this problem since i paid to have the throttle body replaced. *tr

Was driving in morning traffic on the highway and the car lurched and stalled. car was dead and accelerator would not work. i was able to coast to the shoulder. *tr

Driving down the road the car would lose acceleration. i would put the car in neutral and come to a complete stop, put the car in park and cut it off. i'd restart the car and continue driving. this happened multiple times. i took the car to the localford dealership and they replaced the throttle body which fixed the problem. *tr

I have a 2010 fusion that has acted up previously but quit and now its doing it consistently. the car throws a light that's a wrench spits sputters and will not receive any fuel no matter how much you press the throttle. i am a ford lover and bought this car for my fiance for a reliable transportation and now im really worried that this vehicle is going to cause her to get into an accident. it pretty much shuts down on you with not allot of warning and all you can do is coast and hope that you can pull on to the shoulder. i have a friend that works for ford that has informed me that this is a very common problem for this year model fusion and that its about $550 to fix. i am i have a decent job but i have a wedding coming up in just a month and a half and my soon to be wife is about to start back college and will not be helping me financially i just can not afford the parts and labor. if this is such a common problems with this certain model and year why hasn't there been a recall for this part it has obviously not been very well built and im concerned if i do pay the $550 that this part will just do the same thing. please help all of us that are trying to make it in life and recall a very poor design. *tr

My 22 year old son and i had made a roundtrip from tallahassee, florida to thomasville, georgia. approximately one and a half or so miles from my house, the rpms on the car began waving wildly, the car jerked slightly, and came to almost a complete stop on the road, with a truck traveling right behind me. i pressed my foot on the accelerator to the floorboard, but the car slowed to a crawl. the truck behind me passed. i managed to keep the car going to my house; we could have walked there faster. again, this was with the accelerator pressed to the floorboard. the "wrench" light came on the dash. i had 55, 187.1 miles on my car, which i bought in april, 2010, new. i researched this (it was labor day weekend and i had no transportation to speak of!). i called the ford dealership; they closed on saturday at 2:00 p.m. they towed my car in on tuesday morning. i told them i suspected a throttle/transmission problem based on what i saw re similar complaints on the internet. i reported this to the national ford website. they took my complaint. the dealer told me the next day that my throttle had failed, and ford would not assist in any payment for replacement. i advised them i was a lawyer, and they are looking at a products liability design defect or tort lawsuit (if someone gets killed when the car dies on the highway). ford could care less. i had to pay $394 for the labor and part. i will never buy another of their cars. this was my 3rd ford. it is not necessarily the money i was concerned about; it seems like there is a design defect that could cause serious personal injury or death, but ford is engaged in a beancounting exercise at this point. remember the pinto? *tr
