Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 66 700 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

While i was driving, my ford fusion lost most of it's power. i was told it was due to a broken throttle body (part). it sounds like it will take 3 weeks to get the part. i'm not sure why it is taking so long, especially since most people here are complaining about the same part. *tr

Vehicle just went limp!! i was coming to a stop at a light and lost all power. turned the vehicle off and restarted, it worked just fine. *tr

After stopping at bank, car went into creep mode after less than a block. restarted and drove home. nine days later the same thing occurred. drove to mechanic next day ok. needs throttle body for $440.00. ford apparently not willing to fix although they've had this problem for years. replaced ignition coil a few weeks earlier for $330.00. same mo with ford. *tr

Driving at highway speed my 2010 ford fusion se decelerated and went into "limp mode" with no warning. i was able to pull to side of road and turn engine off then back on car was running ok then. this same thing happened again on 8 /12/13.i have seen where there is an investigation into faulty throttle body on this model.the description from other complaints i have read is the exact same as my incidents. i was traveling at around 60 mph both times , this is a very dangerous situation and needs to be addressed thank you.

While resuming travel after stopping at a stoplight the engine would not allow me to continue to accelerate. as there was a line of traffic behind me, i quickly turned on my 4-way flashers and coasted to the side of the road. after shutting off the ignition and waiting for a few minutes, i tried restarting the car. the engine restarted normally and i was able to proceed with full throttle functionally. this same problem happened to me three more times since the first incident. i have read on the internet that several people are experiencing this problem and that ford is not issuing a recall to fix this problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the check fuel inlet warning light illuminated. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing where the mechanic reset the code. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

The car began to stall on the freeway, so i had to drive it off the freeway after it had turned off twice. the first time, it went off in the middle of the freeway as i luckily veered to the side and no one was hurt. i took it to be serviced. it turns out there was a faulty throttle control: the throttle actuator was stuck closed (p2111), and also would get stuck open (p2112). this must have happened while i was on the freeway. the auto service center ran the tests and tested my vehicle after replacing that throttle assembly and now my car runs back to normal. also, my rear parking aid back up tone is out of order. sometimes it just beeps constantly and there is nothing behind the vehicle. it seems to be working in order, but once in a while it does that. *tr

Driving on highway to vacation, after 1 hour my car began to shake and slow down. car did not respond to gas pedal and continued to decelerate on one lane highway. due to no pull off area had to continue on hwy with possibility of crash imminent. cel light came on and wrench light came on. pulled off hwy and at stop car shake and stalled. after a few minutes restarted car and continued trip. car repeated sequence of events 3 more times before reaching destination. on return home next day car repeated sequence. car remained off for 15 mins during which time i pressed the reset button. car restarted and did not stall and returned home. next day i took car into dealer. my car stalled 3 times on the highway on trip to dealer. after throttle body was replaced, had incident with engine racing to 6 rpms. *tr

While driving the car loses power wrench light comes on and the car will not go. it will die as u coast over to the side of the road hoping the whole time the person behind you is not going to rearend you. this was very dangerous. i took it to my local ford dealership and was advised that the throttle actuator control was struck open they could try cleaning it and reset codes or i could purchase a new throttle control. the technician advised me that cleaning them using fixes the problem and thr throttle control part would be on back order and did not know when they could get it. i asked what if it doesnt fix the problem how much money am i out and then have to buy a throttle control. i feel this is a problem ford should be fixing when i can google it and there is a known problem. *tr

I was driving on a crowded highway at the speed limit of 55 when the engine slowed down and did not respond to the gas pedal. i was able to pull to the side of the road and shut the car off. after several minutes i was able to restart the car. the situation was very dangerous. this was the third time that the vehicle had lost power. the other two times i was just starting from a traffic light so it was not as dangerous. the dealer replaced the throttle body to resolve the problem. it definitely did not seem like this was the first time the dealer had seen the problem. i think this is a serious safety defect in this vehicle. *tr

While driving at 45mph lost throttle control. gas pedal had no response. was able to coast to side of highway. the "wrench light" came on the instrument panel. i restarted the vehicle and the throttle was responsive, dove approx 1/4 mile and the same situation occurred; however, this time the check engine and wrench lights were illuminated. turned vehicle off and on and warning lights reset and i had throttle control. drove approx 1000 feet and lost throttle control again; however, this time i was making a turn through an intersection. i was able to coast through the intersection and off the highway onto the shoulder of the road. the check engine and throttle control/transmission(wrench) lights were illuminated. at this point i had the vehicle towed to the dealer. *tr

While driving on at least 6 occasions, vehicle stopped propulsing and had no throttle. a code appeared indicating a throttle/ transmission problem. i contacted ford, and they indicated this is a known issue with my make and model, and not covered under warranty. after researching this online there are so many problems, the part has been back-ordered months at a time, more than once. this problem has been noted in the 4 and 6 cylinder engines all trim levels. i was going over a bridge and feared for my life. their should be a recall. this a major safety issue because the vehicle stops without warning, and a driver could be anywhere. lemon law? thanks in advance. *tr

While driving down the highway at 70mph, the car experienced a sudden loss in power followed by fluxuating rpm and no throttle control. had vehicle towed to dealership and problem was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body. *tr

2010 ford fusion: going down the freeway at 70 and then all of a sudden started losing power, no acceleration and down to 55 at which time i was able to get to the side of the road before it died. i let it sit a couple of minutes and tried to start it - started fine. the ford garage put it on the diagnostic machine but i was told because the check engine light did not come on there was no memory to show what may have happened. it ran fine for about two weeks and then the same thing happened. took it back to ford - but was told again - nothing they could do because the diagnostic does not show what the problem is. after my own research on the web i have found that this is probably a problem with the throttle body assembly and that ford knows about - but my local garage does not want to fix it without knowing for sure that is the problem. i feel very unsafe in this vehicle - maybe the next time i will not be able to get off the freeway/road before it completely stalls. *tr

We were traveling at approximately 65 miles per hour when the car started to jerk and the wrench light came on the dash. we were unable to accelerate. we were in the middle of traffic, almost causing a wreck, and had to make our way to the curb to turn the car off. after we started it again the wrench light went off and we were able to make it back to where we were staying. we were out of town and we had to take the car to the local dealer in that area. they said it was probably the throttle body sensor and that most of the 2010 ford fusions had this same problem and that part was on back order. we were in south carolina at the time and had to make it back to virginia. the engine light also came on and we took it to advance auto where the code p2111 showed up as the error which is the throttle body sensor. we have an appointment to take the car to the dealership later this week for this problem, but we cannot drive our car now. i called ford today and was informed by customer service that this is not a recall as of now. this is going to get someone killed. this is very dangerous because you cannot accelerate. after researching on the internet this is a problem with most 2010 ford fusions and feel this should be a recall by the ford motor company. *tr

The first incident happened when pulling away from a stop light. when i pressed the accelerator there was no response yet the car was running and in gear. the wrench symbol was on the dash. i cut the car off and restarted. the problem was gone. later that day i was driving on the interstate at 65 mph and the car just cut off. i pulled over, turned off the ignition and restarted and everything was again fine. later it happened again while pulling away from a stop light. i shut the engine off mad restarted. this again worked but the engine light stayed on. *tr

I was driving in the right lane of a major, heavily traveled (with many tractor trailers), divided highway, traveling at a speed of between 55 and 60 mph. all of a sudden, without warning, the engine seemed to shut down. i could not accelerate; the engine would not respond. this was a very scary situation as trucks and cars had to break, while i steered the car to the narrow shoulder. the car didn't seem to lose power steering and the engine was still running (tach showed 900 to 1000 rpm). however, engine was totally unresponsive to my depressing the accelerator. i shut off the engine, put the flashers on and waited a few minutes and attempted to start the engine. the engine started normally, and i was able to pull out onto the highway. however, after driving about one-quarter mile, the same engine shutdown occurred. called aaa and had the car towed. the auto repair center checked for trouble codes. the throttle body assembly had failed and had to be replaced. i have not had a problem since the repair was made. subsequent to the repair, i checked on the internet to see if anyone else had this problem. i was very surprised to see that this problem is not uncommon to ford owners. i was gratified to see that your agency has opened an investigation into the matter. i called customer service at ford motor company to see if there has been a recall. ford customer service said there was no recall and did not acknowledge that there is a problem with the throttle body unit. i then called the service department of a local ford dealership. the service rep said that "they have seen problems with the throttle body unit", but confirmed that there has been no recall. *tr

Driving down highway alternating in and out of traffic. at one point the traffic opens. i step on the gas and nothing happens. the car sputters and nearly stalls. i'm able to coast it into the breakdown lane, where it sits and sputters. i shut the car off, restarted it, and it seems to be fine. i drive to a restaurant and have dinner. the car sits for an hour. i get back in and the car drives for a few minutes, then stutters, nearly stalls, and limps along again. i restart the car again, and again it's fine. my wife has also indicated engine racing in first gear. internet research indicates this is a very common issue with ford's throttle bodies of this model / timeframe. *tr

Approximately 3 weeks ago i noticed a small bucking type symptom while sitting at an idle at stops lights. today while pulling out from my street onto the main road my car began bucking very bad and stalled. i was able to get it restarted and continued on to work. it happened twice more at stop lights while trying to cross a major highway! i called my mechanic and took it in immediately. they just called to tell me it was the fuel body and that this is a known issue with these cars and the parts are on back order! considering the severity of this issue and the fact that someone could be seriously injured in a accident because of this issue i would demand that ford issues a recall for these parts immediately! *tr

My ford fusion has been having issues accelerating for about a year now. i have taken it in to be checked out and can't seem to find the problem. the night of june 30th i had drove to work, noticing it riding rather rough, but was able to make it okay. leaving work though i stopped at a local store, while i was parked and idling the car staled with a battery light on. i had just purchased a brand new battery, which was annoying enough in a 2010, just six months ago so i assumed the battery was bad again. i was going to try to jump the car when i realized it would start again, i drove a few feet and the same thing happened. it was able to make it about 30 miles home luckily but continued staling the whole way home. it even staled when i was going 55 mph. i got it to the dealership the next morning and they called to tell me it was the throttle body that had gone bad and needed to be replaced. after doing some research, i came across a website stating that i was not alone in this and that many other ford cars have also had this issue. this problem has cost me 500+ over the past year just in costs to the ford dealership. i can't imagine what kind of money i have lost in gas too. i wanted to share my information so something might be done before someone gets hurt from this problem with the ford throttle body. *tr

I was driving at night and the car stalled in the middle of an intersection, as i was accelerating from a full stop. i let the car roll through the intersection, and come to a full stop. the car had very ruff idle while stopped, and the accelerator was still unresponsive. i shut-off the car for few mins, and re-fired the engine. it started, but few mins later, stalled again. this time the check engine light and the service wrench were both illuminated. i was able to drive the car home, 40 miles and then to dealer for the repairs. during the driving to home and the dealer the car stalled a number of times. the speed did not seem to matter when the car stalled. i took the car to the dealer and they have to replace the engine's throttle body assembly. the throttle body replacement also required a reprogram of pcm. i also, did some research and others having this problem too and you all have an investigation underway, http://www.nbcnews.com/business/1-3-million-fords-toyotas-hondas-under-investigation-1c8536130. i hope this repair works, but it was very crazy to have the car stall while travel on the highway. *tr

While i was up to speed (65 mph), the car's wrench light came on, and lost power. all of the electrical systems were still functioning, but the car would not accelerate. i waited a few minutes, tried the car again, and it made it to my destination, and went trouble-free on the return trip home. the car had the same occurrence on monday, july 8. at that time, i called roadside assistance who came and towed the car to the dealer that services my car. i was told that the throttle body had to be replaced. estimated repair cost: $387.00. *tr

As i was driving on interstate, the vehicle suddenly lost all acceleration power. i was forced to pull off the road for fear of stalling on the highway. after a couple separate similar instances and trips to the auto repair shop, they determined the problem was a faulty throttle body. after replacing the throttle body, the problem has not recurred. i did some online research after the problem was identified and found numerous owners have complained of a similar issue with the 2010 ford fusion. the research stated this is very common with this make and model when the vehicle has between 40,000 to 60,000 miles. *tr

Http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2010/ford/fusion/power+train traveling on interstate at 55 miles per hour when the car lost power and the wrench light came on it was all that could be done to avoid a highspeed accident. when the vehicle wa restarted it ran fine. however it continues doing this. the dealer says the throttle unit ($600) needs replaced this after the transmission was just replaced. we called the ford customer service it took three weeks for their representative to return the call and he had the nerve to ask "what did we expect him to do"? with the web the companies can no longer lie the dealer and ford first stated it was the first they heard of this, yet there are lawsuits everywhere. *tr

Vehicle stalled out at an intersection, check engine light and other dash indicators came on. roadside assistance was contacted and the vehicle towed to our local dealership. dealership advised this morning that the necessary part, an electronic throttle body, is on back-order nationwide and did not expect to have the part available for installation until the week of 7/8 at the earliest and that it was not covered under the warranty, thus costing approximately $500.00. a quick google search indicates that nhtsa has launched a probe into this issue. *tr .

While driving on 476 in pa, the car lost power and the gas pedal was unresponsive. i was able to pull over and when i turned off the engine a warning/event light went on indicating throttle/transmission issues. i was to call for assistence but waited a few minutes and started the car, and proceed to work ( about 40 minutes of driving. i called the dealership to make repair arrangement and was advised the car is drivable and that some of these throttle issues are "intermittent". the car stalled 3 more time on my way home, about 75 miles and it seemed to stall every 20 or so minutes. car is now at the dealership awaiting replacement part(s). *tr

This was the third time it has happened. first time, replaced battery ($100). car suddenly dies and loses all power. able to restart, but with difficulty. very dangerous, especially with a three-year old! was driving to the dealer to get it looked at and was going 60 mph and it just died, luckily was by an off-ramp so could exit freeway. after looking it up online (car is at the dealer as we speak and they have no clue on what's wrong), i determined it's a throttle body issue. very dangerous!!!!! *tr

While driving about 45mpg my car 'stalled'. sudden loss of acceleration but motor was still running, wrench light popped on. i pulled over and let the car sit for a few minutes and upon restarting it the car ran ok. took it to discount auto and pulled no codes. thouht it was a fluke. it has happened 2 more times in the last 2 weeks. the last time it happened i was puttering to the shoulder of the road and was almost hit by an oncoming car. my 3 children and husband were in the car. took it to mechanic and was told i will need to replace throttle body but it is on back order for 2-4 weeks, possibly more. in the meantime i refuse to put my daughters back in this deathtrap ford calls a car. and like most people we can only afford one car so this is a huge inconveince to us. how many more cases need to be filed, how many more teriffied consumers will it take before a recall is done?!? plus drivetrain warranties supposedly do not cover these repairs. i come from a looong line of ford family but i am counting down the days until i can get out of this car. *tr

I was driving on a busy road when my car stopped. i pushed the gas and it would not go. i barely pulled over and turned the car off. after several minutes it restarted. i almost got rear ended the following day because it did the same thing on a hill. i had two small children in the car this time. i called the dealership and they said it is a faulty throttle body. they said it would cost me over $500 to fix and the part would take several days to come in due to it being on back order from it happening so often. i almost got hit with my three year old and 6 month old in the car. this is a major safety issue. it happens out of no where and at any speed. thank goodness i wasn't on the highway with my children!!! ford needs to step up and make this a safety recall!! the dealer said he is seeing it in mostly all 2010-2012 fusions. *tr

As i drove my 2010 ford fusion se 6 speed manual transmission up to a speed of 50 mph, i was noticing a couple jerks of acceleration and then completely loosing power.i was able to pull over, come to a complete stop and turn the vehicle off and restart it. app-on restarting i was able to make it to auto zone where i was informed that my fuel injectors probably needed a good cleaning. so i bought some cleaner and ran i through my engine. that seemed to have worked until 3 days later i was coming home with my sister and her friend on the freeway, during rush hour driving 75mph this time, and my car didn't only stall once, but three times on my drive home. however, this time my check engine light came on so when i arrived back how and dropped of my sister and her friend i drove to auto zone and advanced auto parts to get an obd ii reading. both readings were p2111, meaning that my throttle actuator was stuck open and not responding to the gas peddle. now both companies suggested that i just clean my throttle body and that would fix the problem. before i did this i call my ford dealer to see if this part was under warranty or any kind of recall and was informed that it was not under warranty or recall. they also suggested that i just clean the throttle body and that would fix my problem. so i cleaned the throttle body, but now the car is stalling more than before. i tried looking up the part so that i could replace it but found out that ford has already discontinued that part and is telling people to by the new part, but they never did a recall for the part. this particular part controls the air flow into the engine, if it malfunctions the throttle body closes up and the car idles, no matter how fast you are going. this is a sever safety issue that ford needs to take responsibility for. if they don't someone can be seriously injured, or worse, killed. *tr

I was pulling out onto a highway and as i gave the car the gas, it suddenly would not accelerate. the car lost all power but continued to run and i noticed a light on my instrument cluster of a wrench. i pulled over and stopped the car. i turned the key off and let the car sit for a minute or two and started it back up. this has happened several times since. a couple of times this has occurred and i was moving at a considerable pace with other vehicles behind me. *tr

I'm also having throttle body problems in my 2010 fusion. the car has repeatedly lost power while traveling down the road at 60+ mph. the wrench and check engine light come on. it did it 4 times in one day. ford customer care acknowledged there were problems with the throttle bodies on these cars but refuses to replace them under warranty. *tr

While driving and putting my foot on the gas i could not accelerate the vehicle started to jerk. looking at the rpms they were moving up and down.. the car started to shake as i was luckily able to pull off on the side of the highway. i turned the car off and started it back up and got back on the highway. after about 5 minutes the car started to do the exact same thing. after multiple times pulling off of the highway i was able to make it home. i was on a round trip from kentucky to ohio, no more then 80 miles total, in rush hour traffic. this could have really caused a major collision!!! after getting home and researching the problem on line i cannot believe the horrific amounts of complaints about the exact same thing happening. i purchased the car 3 months ago, and cannot afford to spend what seems to be from 600-800.00 on a new throttle body. *tr

While my 18-year daughter was driving the 2010 ford fusion with my 16-year son, the car shut off and the wrench light turned on. she pulled over, was upset and called me. she restarted the car and it seemed fine. then on june 18th, while driving around 55 mph, the car shuttered and shut down on me. i pulled off the road and restarted the car. today, june 24th, while driving around 35 mph, this happened to me again, the car shuttered, i could not accelerate and i had to pull off and restart the car. i have researched this issue on line and have found numerous similar stories. they all point to the throttle body/ throttle position sensor. someone is going to get killed. please recall the throttle body /throttle position sensor car and get fixed. *tr

Driving on the highway going about 40mph my car felt like it died, it was still running but unresponsive. there was heavy traffic and i had to stop in the middle of the lane because i was in an area where there were no shoulders to coast to. once i stopped, i put it in park and restarted it, it ran fine and acted normal for a few days, and it started doing the same thing on the same stretch of highway that i use every day. only this time it kept happening about every 15 to 20 min. it is at the ford dealer now and they are telling me it has a bad throttle body and it needs to be replaced. the only problem is that they are replacing so many right now that there is a national back order and i might have to wait 3 or 4 weeks. so not only am i out several hundred dollars but i don't know when ill get my car back. ford knows there is a problem with the throttle body, they should be replacing this for free. its a defective part. and it is not very cheap. plus they are charging me $130.00 an hour to diagnose the problem that seems like everyone is already aware of. i am having the exact same symptoms as all the other throttle body people. *tr

While driving the vehicle, the vehicle just started coasting, i could not accelerate the vehicle anymore, luckily, i was able to get to the side, out of traffic, the battery light came on, the rpm started moving back and forth and the car started jumping, and the wrench appeared. the first time i tried to restart the vehicle, it would not start, i waited a couple of seconds and it eventually started and then after about 2 miles, it cut-off again. my understanding is that it is the throttle body. this is extremely dangerous. i have had three or four cars from ford, this is the first time i have had a problem like this. in addition, ford needs to recall these vehicles. if ford does not recall these vehicles, my suggestion would be that mr. steven kenner, global director, who feels that there is no unreasonable risk, place his family into these ford vehicles and let these vehicle stop on them at night, or on the expressway, or where ever they may be. it is extremely ridiculous that a semi-new car that barely has miles on it would have a problem such as this. as of the date, of my complaint, i am looking at 907 complaints. this is ridiculous. *tr

The engine stalls and throttle becomes on responsive . when the vehicle is shut off and restarted it is fine for a while . this occured three times in the last three weeks . i do alot of highway driving and this is a very dangerous problem . *tr

While driving in city traffic vehicle suddenly seemed to lose drive power. wrench lite came on as i tried my best to move out of harms way.downtown traffic is dangerous enough without this exciting vehicle failure. upon further research it appears this is the limp-home mode which one encounters when a throttle body has malfunctioned. i find it hard to believe that ford has not notified owners of this dangerous situation. it is clear upon internet research that this is occurring far too often. when my ford service rep told me that this was not covered under warranty on my 37 month old car i left in disgust. i then had the throttle body replaced by a reputable repair shop for the sum of $350. i trust nhtsa will find that this is a real danger and insist upon a recall or information notice to all owners. i can't believe ford hasn't done this on their own accord. *tr

Multiple times engine just would die and restart after pulling over to side of road and restarting. i just chucked it up to bad gas as we have had a slew of reports on this in my area. on wed june 12th while on the interstate at 70mph in busy traffic i in the middle of 3 lanes it decides to again loose accelerator pedal and idle...no where to go cars zooming up on me and honking and slammin on there brakes!. i pull over finally and turn key off and restarts easily. upon gettin off interstate it continues to stall at will. pulled into autozone and have it checked for error code and said was faulty throttle body. upon looking up on line i was amazed that this is so common with the motor trends car or the year in 2010! and still no recall from ford! i feel this is as big safety issue! what if this happens into a merge situation? or turnin into high speed traffic???? please help. *tr

This car has a tendency on stalling because of the electronic throttle body. *tr

The first time i experienced the problem; i was accelerating going up a slight incline, the engine quit. i had to put it park and restart it, in traffic. this same issues happened several more times, the car just quit while driving. on july 27th, it happened again along with a new issue: i was at a stop light and it started running ruff and shut itself off. this incident happened twice. *tr

Was driving interstate speeds and vehicle shut down, wrench symbol came on dash board. has happened 3-5 times since, in traffic or at highway speeds. extremely dangerous. *tr

Like most of the complaints i read on- line and was able to diagnose the problem myself a 55 year old female, i was driving and all the sudden my engine was still running but had no acceleration the pedal was worthless, luckily i was able to coast off the road without being slammed into by other cars and then when i came to complete stop the car started shaking uncontrollably and then the engine died. i put in park and turned off ignition then i restarted and i was able to drive a few miles then it happened again. i had to restart 4 times to make it home and i was lucky to be in my home town when this happened because i make a lot of two hundred mile trips. i googled online and found out that other owners of this lemon vehicle has had the same problem. ford dealership wanted close to $700.00 to diagnose and replace the throttle body, parts and labor. i'm recently divorced and unemployed and could not afford this ridiculous amount for something that takes less then 10 min. to change, i bought a new one for $172.00 and did it myself couldn't be easier. ford should be ashamed for not recalling all vin numbers mine wasn't included in recall, thank god someone posted on utube how to change it. shame on ford this is a safety issue and hope no one gets killed in a traffic accident when this happens. *tr

Was driving on the freeway with cruise control on and all of a sudden the car shook and there was a beep and then my wrench light came on and started losing speed fast. was able to get over to the shoulder. i turned the car off and then turned it back on. was able to drive a few hundred yards when it happened against this time the engine light came on and stayed on. i took it to the dealer and with in 30 minutes told me was the throttle body intake with an error code of p2111. could have gotten bad quickly. *tr

Loss of power on interstate going 60 mph after 1.5 hour drive. weather: sunny, upper 70's. throttle control lost. changing accelerator position has no effect on rpms. gas tank 3/4 full. engine still running, coasted off onto the shoulder. engine vibrated a lot but may have been antilock brakes kicking in. turned off engine. a few minutes later started again, but it wouldn't start at first. recently had 50000 mile service. symptoms consistent with those reported in the press for ford fusion problems with throttle assembly. safety issue makes it a scary situation on interstates especially where there is no immediate place to pull over (miles of construction, for example) with heavy truck traffic behind you. *tr

While driving down a moderately traveled road, my vehicle lost power where when i pushed on the accelerator (nothing happened). i was able to get pulled off the side of the road and some warning lights appeared on my dash. i turned the car off and restarted it and it seemed to be okay (no warning lights on dash) and i proceeded home. the following morning it happened again while attempting to pull away from a traffic light on a busier road. i managed to get off the road, turned it off and tried restarting it. once i got it restarted, i headed straight for the dealership. it was diagnosed as being the throttle body. my issue is that it can completely catch the driver off guard and cause an accident. the vehicle is not very old and the manufacturer seems to be controlling the distribution of the part (only so many released at a time). it took over a week to get my car back for what seems to be a very common issue as read in forums from other owners of the same type of vehicle. i believe the issue with the throttle body needs to be reviewed for a possible recall. *tr

I was driving at approx. 45 mph when vehicle experienced an almost total loss of power and the engine shuddered to a stop. instrument panel indications were a "wrench" and steady engine light. i was able to restart and the car and drive a mile to my home there were no warning lights when starting the car the next day, however about 1.5 mi. from home the same exact indications and conditions returned when i accelerated from 45 to 50 mph. again the "wrench" and engine light illuminated. a restart allowed me to drive home during which time the engine light was illuminated steady. the condition recurred an additional two times during the short drive home. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and repair on monday. i was not told of the extensive history of similar problems with my vehicle, but was only advised that the "throttle body" was carbonned up" and needed to be replaced or cleaned, the dealer reported that throttle bodies were on backorder and said they cleaning mine should correct the problem. i elected to have them clean the throttle body. after the maintenance was allegedly completed i was driving home after picking up the vehicle, when, within only 1/2 mi. of the dealership, the vehicle again experienced the same near total loss of power. i was able to pull off the road and restart the engine. i pulled out into traffic on a very busy thoroughfare to return to the dealer when the car died again leaving me the middle of four lanes of opposing, fast-moving traffic. i felt very unsafe. after a brief internet search i discovered this to be a common occurrence with my vehicle and i suspect it is more widespread than what has been reported to date. *tr

Driving at relatively low speed - 25-30 mph - and car lurched to slow speed - could not accelerate at all. had to pull over to side of road, turn vehicle off and restart. drove 50 yards and problem recurred. it continued to happen, fortunately not on the highway until i called the ford dealer. had to have the vehicle towed because i did not want to take it on the highway. dealer wanted to charge me over $500 for repair as vehicle was 3 months out of 36 month warranty. i researched online and found that this is a problem with the "throttle box" which the dealer should have been well aware of. dealer did "assisted" me with cost of repair - charged me $50.00. the repair should have been free. ford needs to issue a recall before someone is killed. *tr

I was driving around 70 miles an hour, southbound in the hov lane of i-95 near exit 2b in alexandria va. the area is a construction zone with barricades on either side of the two lane hov facility. suddenly, and abruptly, i lost all acceleration and had to coast to a stop in a manner that blocked the right lane of the hov facility. the engine remained running in a rough idle, and the engine/wrench light came on. i tried restarting the car (shutting off and turning the car back on trying a variety of shifting the transmission to n or p). the car would run, but always at a rough idle with no ability to accelerate. during this time, there were several near rear-end collisions due to motorists traveling at a high rate of speed before encountering my completely stopped vehicle. realizing the peril i was in, i quickly exited the vehicle and hopped the construction barricade. i called 911 due to the danger of the situation and it took around 25 minutes for the roadside assistance vehicle to arrive. after the engine cooled, the issue seemed to resolve itself, and i was able to drive the vehicle to the nearest dealership. the diagnosis was made by the ford dealership technicians within 90 seconds of me describing the problem. the throttle body was the problem. i researched the issue to discover that this issue is extremely common and well known to ford. the issue is so pervasive that there is a nationwide back order on the part with a lead-time of more than 2 weeks. i was angered to learn that ford is aware of this issue yet has not sent notice of the problem or a recall and is charging customers for parts and labor to fix this problem. most importantly, i am angered of the peril that i was placed in when this known issue impacted me in one of the worst possible places to have it happen. i cannot imagine what i would have done if my kids were in the vehicle. *tr

I was merging onto a highway from another highway. i was traveling at approximately 65 mph so i could merge into flowing traffic. i was about to merge into the two lanes on my right as the two lanes i was coming from were ending. as i was about to merge into the lane on my right my vehicle lost power and could not accelerate. the service light came on. i stayed in my lane which was quickly coming to an end. i put on my 4 way flashers to alert the other cars i had an issue. i stayed left until i noticed the cars on my right were aware that i needed to get over to the shoulder on the right side of the road. i pulled off the road and came to a stop. the car felt as if it was shuttering. i turned the car off and waited for a few minutes and then turned the car back on. the service light was now off and the shuttering was gone. when i took my vehicle to my mechanic it did not give any codes. since then it has happened four more times. the last time engaging the check engine light. my mechanic was able to pull a code and it identified the throttle body. my mechanic contacted ford who will not cover a replacement part at this time, but stated they are aware of the issue and have 17,000 parts on back order. *tr
