Computer controlling throttle shuts engine off at highway speeds. no power to control vehicle.
Check engine light stays on as well as check fuel fill inlet message. obd code shows small emissions leak. the check engine light will occasionally disappear on its own and the check fuel fill inlet message will also go away, but both always reappear eventually. this car has the capless fuel inlet.

Last year i had the throttle body recalibrate and cleaned. after receiving the extended warranty, ford replaced the part at no cost. it has been not even a year yet and my car is experiencing the same problems. i was at a stop light and my vehicle stalled our and the wrench light came on as well as some other lights. the light turned green and from what i remember from the other 1000 posts, they said to turn the car off and restart it. that's exactly what i did. it obviously occurred a few more times as well. i took it to the dealer and my bill was 1,000 dollars. they changed a purge valve which was stuck open. therefore, allowing the gas to flow directly to the canister. they also mentioned how dirty the engine was and recommended that i get a flush done on the vehicle. i declined because i knew that carbon was coming from the throttle body. anyways, the vehicle is very unstable and unsafe. when i step on the gas pedal, it takes a good 7 seconds to accelerate and therefore possibly causing a crash, especially trying to merge on the parkway. i went through this a year ago and ever since spent over 6,000 dollars in repairs. not to mention the motor mounts which break pretty often. it looks as though the transmission is going to jump out of the vehicle. i called ford and explained that my car was experiencing throttle body issues again and they said that once it's fixed, the warranty is up and i have to pay out of pocket. this is ridiculous! their cars are unsafe. what if i was one of the victims where the car stalled while driving? i know this has happened. please look into this vehicle, it is not a safe car.
As i was driving the power steering stopped workin. and couldnt turn the wheel. while i had my children in the car. also the gas tank whenever i get gas the car shakes & when i turn the car on after the gas is done, the car stalls & have to restart it twice before it stays on
I smelled gasoline every time i filled up. i took the car to a ford dealer and they found the gas tank had a crack on the top. it was actually dripping gas near the exhaust system. dealer said tank needed to be replaced. quoted a price of $1200 just for the tank. dealer found a used tank. total cost was $638. dealer refused to call ford to see if they would cover part of the cost. car had 93,000 miles on it.
This has happened sporadically since july 2015. there's no warning, no check engine light. you're driving the car and all the sudden the power to the engine is cut. it maintains a very rough idle as you attempt to maneuver to a shoulder in traffic and once stopped the car shakes violently. when this issue occurs the "wrench" on the dash electronics illuminates. once you shut the car off and restart the car, it sometimes runs fine for a while, other times this issue occurs again. we've had the car into the shop twice, but because there's no check engine light sourcing the problem is incredibly hard. this is extremely unsafe, especially if it occurs on the interstate or other congested areas. ford needs to be held liable for such and should issue a mandatory recall. i attached a picture of numerous complaints about the same issue and some say it's the throttle bodies which had an extended warranty for a little bit, but one should not have to have this occur before getting it fixed.
I was affected by the throttle body thing. i got it fixed at jim click ford in tucson. i've been experiencing heavy acceleration and throttle response problems since. i had my trams fluid leak from the cap. no leaks in any of my hoses. my rpms stay between 1700-2700 regardless of what speed i'm going. i took it back to jim click, even tho showing no errors. and it's always whining, my engine. i don't know what's causing this, but i definitely take care of my car. and fusions been having a lot of problems. and people tell my my car makes really loud noise when turning. i've never heard it or felt it, but i've been told by multiple people.
I started smelling gasoline every time i would get out of my car or walk towards it. i was under the impression i had "spilled some". i proceeded to smell it and noticed it was gasoline. so i looked under my car and realized that it had a gas leak. i took my card to a ford dealership and the found my fuel tank seal has cracked. this problem needs to be looked into for the safely of the consumer.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel system failed. the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated that shortly after the repairs, the vehicle was refueled and fuel started to leak from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000. the vin was not available.
I was accelerating from a stop light. i have a 2010 ford fusion manual transmission 4-cylinder engine. i had just shifted into 2nd gear and was at about 15 mph when the car suddenly stopped accelerating. the powertrain warning light came on the dash. the engine was idling - but i was unable to accelerate the car. fortunately, there was no one behind me, and traffic was not impeded. i pulled to the side of the road and verified electrical systems were working. the engine felt rough. i turned off the ignition and let the car sit for about 15 seconds. i started the car back up, and it ran without issue. i searched online, and found similar complaints on other fusions. i took the car to a ford dealership and they replaced the throttle body as well as the fuel valve. leading up to this, i had noticed some symptoms of shuddering, but, it coincided with a new tank of fuel. i planned to put a new tank of fuel in and see if the problem persisted. the car died prior to a new tank. this is a serious safety issue given that it can easily result in being rear-ended.
Noticed a strong fuel odor coming from car. upon further inspection, noticed that there was a puddle under the gas tank, coming from the rear passanger side, towards the top. as i took a closer look, i found that it was leaking from the seam where the two halves of the tank were put together. it was a steady drip, loosing about a half gallon of fuel in a 24 hour period. had the car towed to the dealer and they confirmed it was leaking from the seam. quoted me at $1500 for the fix. filed a claim with ford and waiting to hear back from them........updated10/27/15*bf *cn
I was driving down the interstate when all of sudden i loss power and the car seems like it does not want to take gas so lucky i was in the right lane and was able to get in to emergency lane before i got hit from behind by a tractor trailer. i have had the car looked at and told that there is a problem with the vacuum system on this car. it has to do the the filler neck on the gas tank. my mechanic tells me this is a common problem with ford fusion and this model. i think this should be looked in to before someone else is in the smae boat and gets killed or cause one serious problem.
Daughter was driving on fm road on coming vehicle on wrong side struck daughter car head on. daughters car caught on fire, seat belts locked or froze passenger unable to unlock seat belt. daughter died passenger received burns to hands.daughters car was in motion.
Last month my 2010 ford fusion went into "limp mode" while driving twice in the same day - engine still runs but no power other than idling - very dangerous. took my vehicle to the local ford dealer who replaced the throttle body as part of a customer satisfaction program at no cost. the vehicle has gone into "limp mode" one more time since then. i do not trust this vehicle.
The fuel tank is leaking on the vehicle. the warranty company says it was rust. the dealer informed me that this is not rust and was common on this model of fusion. they say it is leaking from the top of the tank near the seam. i cannot fill the tank in my car and this is a danger because it is close to the exhaust. the cost of the repair will be $1200 and when i called ford they just are aware there is a issue but also tell me that there is nothing they can do.
8/24/2015 had the charcoal canister and vapor control valve replaced in my 2010 ford fusion by dealership. took car filled up tank, drove car, noticed a smell and gas running out from underneath car near the rear passenger tire. called dealership back took car back in and was told on 8/25/2015 that there was/is a break in weld of gas tank. over $1600.00 later i had to pay, out of pocket for repairs. i have found on numerous web site (i.e. repair pal and safercar.gov to name a few) that this is a known/ongoing issue....updated10/27/15*bf *cn
Car cut out and went to limp mode. code p2111 - actuator control system open this is a very serious safety issue!!!! my entire family was in the car. if i had not been a experienced driver an accident could have result from shutting down on the interstate
The car will suddenly lose acceleration and come to stop, engine sputters and car shakes. after turning the car off for a minute and restarting, you can continue on. this happens sporadically and without warning and is a very hazardous situation in busy traffic. research indicates that the problem is associated to the throttle body and seems to be electronic in nature.
Suspected crack in fuel tank due to smell of gasoline under car continuous since summer of 2015, plus clutch regularly slips now also as though problem in transmission.
The check engine light came on several times and was returned to dealer for service. kept being told was a dirty flap in the capless fuel neck. quit taking it since warranty ran out and cost 100.00 per issue without issue being fixed. drove with check engine light on until i smelled gas while parked in garage and saw gas leak under the car between back seat area and trunk. took to ford dealer and they told me the gas tank was crack and had to replace at a cost of 1600.00 after tank was replaced the check engine light has stayed off. found out that many of the 2010 fusions have had the same issue and the 2013 fusions are under recall.
While highway driving at speed, the car lost power without warning. engine check or wrench light came on. being on a highway without power seem to put me and the vehicle in jeopardy of being in a collision. i was able to turn the key off and back on to clear the problem temporarily. since then the engine speed seems to surge. while this has not been officially diagnosed symptoms indicates a throttle body failure.
Car cut out and went to limp mode. no code was set. first repair cleaned throttle body ok for 1000mile then many shut downs on an interstate made it to the dealer who replaced electronic throttle body. car vin indicated it was not under the so called recall car had exactly the same symptoms as other have reported on various web sites this is a very serious safety issue!!!! if i had not been a experienced driver an accident could have result from shutting down on the interstate
Once again i have another big issue with this car and year. the car smells of fuel. possible fuel tank corrosion. it is very unsafe for anyone to be within 20feet of the car , let alone light a cigarette or a match. why is the nhtsa not recalling these vehicles, ford fusions, but recalling everyone after the 2010 year model. you recalled the 2013 for the fuel system, 2011 & 2012 for the power steering, alot of the complaints are all for the 2010 year model, and you keep skipping over this year... horrible year ford has ever made with this car. some one is going to get killed !!!! i should never have to put a new fuel tank in a 4year old car ...
While driving upon acceleration increase of speed and slowing down there is a loud wining sound. when driving the vehicle for 15-20 minutes i can smell fuel inside the car. this is not when filling fuel it's while the car is driven for a length of time each day. the battery goes dead when sitting for one to two weeks. we have purchased 2 batteries in 1 year, had cables and connections cleaned and replaced. there has been messages coming up for "check engine" and the fan is noisy when the air or heat is turned up.
Driving down the high way and my car lost all accelerating capability and almost caused a serious accident. my car was previously taken in three months ago because it was stalling but i was told by ford without any check engine light they couldn't do anything. i even did some online research before i went to ford and suggested the throttle body position sensor and they said it wouldn't cause my car to do that.
Vehicle went into limp mode at 75 miles per hour. existing nhtsa action number exists for this issue and model/year (pe13003) but ford claims the vehicle is not affected by this issue. requesting to reopen the investigation and create a recall for all affected vehicles, not just a partial list.
Gas tank rotted out on 2010 ford fusion. caused major fuel leak.
I believe this car is also affected by the electronic throttle body issues plaguing fords. i was driving the vehicle when it suddenly loses power and the "wrench" light appears. the vehicle lost speed and did not respond to the gas pedal. i was able to pull over and restart the vehicle with temporary resolution of the problem. this has been a gradually worsening problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning numerous times. the vehicle was taken to priority ford norfolk (7520 n military hwy, norfolk, va 23518) where fault code p1450: "unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum" was found, which monitors the fuel vapor vacuum and pressure in the fuel tank. the dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the fuel inlet warning light illuminated. the contact also stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank failed. the vehicle was not repaired. while driving approximately 5 mph, the steering wheel seized and required excessive force. the contact stated that the power steering assist fault message appeared on the dashboard. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
Smell of gas on passenger side of car took it into body shop said it was a leak at the seam of the fuel tank talked to ford said since we were out of warranty would not replace fuel tank...car is only 5 years old this is crazy for something to happen to fuel tank in just 5 years. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while fueling the vehicle, a strong fuel odor was present in the vehicle while the fuel inlet warning light was illuminated. the failure occurred randomly. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v793000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the remedy was not yet available. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
I noticed that my car was not starting immediately after pumping gas. i drove it and the check engine light came on. it then went off and came back on the next day and has stayed on. the other night as i got off the interstate and came to a stop i noticed that my car was shaking horribly. i took my car to have the engine light tested and it stated code: p144a evap purge vapor line restricted/blocked. the other code was: p1450 unable to bleed up bleed fuel tank vacuum. i called ford to complain and to let them know that this was the second time i had a problem with the fuel line. when i first purchased the car in 2012 i had a light about the fuel tank come on immediately. i took it back to ford and they corrected it. now i again am having problems with the fuel tank. when i called ford to tell them there is obviously a defect in the car they were not helpful and basically told me there was nothing they could do. explaining that now this is the second occurrence with a fuel tank on this car and that they should repair it i was told it wasn't under warranty and they are not responsible. now if this was a one time thing it would be one thing but to have it happen again shows an obvious defect in the making of this car. online i have seen many complaints about the same issues with ford model cars. *tr
Vehicle shuts down while cruising on the freeway. the wrench light came on. lost control of throttle and had to pull over to the shoulder. the car wouldn't rev up or anything. after turning the car off and starting it back up again it drove fine and the wrench light disappeared.
While driving down i-495 (dc beltway) my vehicle loss power almost causing an accident between me and the commercial truck behind and on the passenger side of me. the car then began to creep in some limbo gear. because i was in the middle lane i had to navigate my way through fast moving traffic with my kids in the car. i crept at <1 mph until i hit the first service station (shell). my concern is that this will happen again, but my familiy and i won't be so lucky the next time. i know its not my transmission, because after stopping at the shell for 15 minutes, i started the car and it was fine. so it may be computer related. i remember something like this happening in the older automatic international trucks my company use to own. *tr
I have had this car for 2 years now. i first had issues with the throttle body and my car shutting off at intersections and had that replaced within a year of buying the car. i have been having issues with the transmission slipping between 1st and 2nd gear for almost a year now. i first had seals replaced. the second time i had my cv joint boots replaced and found out they are wearing out the seals that are causing transmission leaks. the car is in the shop for the 3rd time because of the same transmission leaks and difficult shifting between 1st and 2nd gear and will most likely be getting a new transmission because the cv joints and seals have failed again within the 3 months of being replaced. *tr
Twice the vehicle ran properly and was parked. upon starting the vehicle, it ran fine for some seconds. as i pulled into traffic, the vehicle inexplicably lost nearly all power. the engine ran extremely rough and the car would barely move at all. i could barely get off the road because of the extreme loss of power and very rough idling. the wrench indicator light came on both times, but the service engine light did not come on either time. after shutting off the car and restarting it, the car operated normally. *tr
Throttle body failed and required replacement. this is a known issue and there is an extended warranty on the part, but because the repair was done at a private service center and not a ford dealership, ford refuses to pay for the repair. guess i won't be buying a ford ever again! *tr
Sudden loss of throttle response at 30mph driving speed. vehicle soon stalled losing engine power. check engine light illuminated. ford obd code p2111, throttle actuator stuck open. replaced faulty throttle body with new to remedy situation. erased obd codes. no further problems. this complaint will also be forwarded to ford consumer relations. *tr
My vehicle suffered the ford customer satisfaction program for throttle body failure. the vehicle will idel rough there will be a surge and then the vehicle will go into "limp home mode" . this happened while turning at lightfrom a stop. the vehicle accelerated then hesitated the a complete loss of power with the engine light coming on. att hat point the car was in "limp home mode" the throttle position sensor inside the throttle body was the problem. contacted ford and my vehicle is not covered under their customer satisfaction program which extended the warranty on over 1 million for vehicles. i believe ford needs to extend this "csp" to a larger range of vin numbers and assembly plants. *tr
On 8/15/14 car sputtered while driving at 30-35 mph and slowed to a stop. would not re-start immediately but eventually did after 10 minutes. it then sputtered and stopped a couple times within a mile or two. the auto mechanic did not find any bad computer codes. he did clean the throttle body and replaced the air filter. the car ran well without any problem for 3 weeks and 1,100 miles. on 9/11/14 the car again sputtered and slowed to a stop. my wife was able to re-start it. the auto mechanic again found no bad computer codes. he could not explain the cause. web search revealed many other drivers with similar issues with 2010 ford fusion fuel system. definitely a dangerous condition. *tr
I was driving on the interstate at approx. 55 mph, with cruise control activated. the vehicle suddenly deactivated t he cruise control and started slowing down. wrench light came on, and it stopped responding to pressing of the accelerator. i steered the vehicle off the interstate and on to an exit ramp, with brakes and steering unaffected. when i put it in park, the engine was sputtering and the car shaking. after shutting off the engine and restarting, the vehicle ran normally without warning lights. repair shop employees said it was probably the throttle body, but because the car computer had not recorded the codes, they weren't sure. *tr
I was driving normally when the vehicle lost all power. i was forced to pull over on a 2 lane highway with no shoulder. car shook violently at idle. turned the car off and restarted it and the problem seemed to go away. happened again a mile or so later. *tr
I was driving on an interstate going 65 mph when my gas pedal stopped working, it would not make my car accelerate. the rpms dropped down to 1000-1500 and my car immediately started to slow down. i pulled to the side of the road and as i slowed down the car jumped and acted like it was stalling out. the wrench light on the dash also illuminated. i put the car in park and let the car run for about 1o more minutes before it stalled out.thinking that my car was broken down and i was going to have to get it towed. before i called for a tow i restarted the car and when i did, it ran fine. *js
Car stalled all of a sudden traveling 70 mph in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway. the throttle went into limp mode and i was forced to abruptly pull off to the side of the road where the car sputtered with the wrench light on the dash. i started the car again, the wrench light went away and the engine started properly. i diagnosed the computer system and got two codes, p2111 and p2112. the throttle body is getting stuck open and stuck closed causing the car to go into limp mode. this is very dangerous for anyone traveling on a busy road and could definitely cause injury if someone is unable to react to the situation due to their car being inoperable. *tr
