Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion ENGINE

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 60 342 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

While driving engine cut out causing the car to stall in traffic. i brought the car to the ford dealership and it was diagnosed as a faulty fuel injector #2. same issue happened approximately 5000 miles later then again 10000 miles later. each time the vehicle was brought to a ford dealership. *tr

Vehicle was travelling approximately 20-25 mph when power was abruptly reduced and the engine went into a rough idle. the wrench light on the dash illuminated. there was no response from the accelerator pedal. power steering and power brakes were not affected. i pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the engine. upon restarting, the car ran fine and i proceeded home without incident. the next morning, the car started fine, but a half mile later the car's power was again reduced with a rough idle. the wrench light illuminated again. i stopped safely and turned off the engine. i restarted the car several times; each time power was reduced and the car was shaking and shuddering. i limped back home and called a tow company to tow the car to the dealer. the diagnosis was a failed throttle body. dealership replaced throttle body. *tr

My 2010 fusion has a defective throttle body. i have contacted ford about this issue and i get the answer that its my problem not theirs. i have been waiting for a part to fix this that has been on back order since april but of course this will be at my expense. i see that this problem is effecting hundreds of other 2010 fusions and would like to know why this would not reach recall status? it also will accelerate on its own which in its self is a major safety concern. *tr

While attempting to accelerate, automatic transmission stalls and wrench light illuminates. at first i could turn the car off and back on, but eventually, the car stopped functioning altogether. analysis was performed and throttle body was the cause. has occurred with other 2010 fusion sels. ford unwilling to replace faulty manufactured part. *tr

Engine began shutting down while moving in morning rush hour. also surges forward and runs thru multiple gears while in stop and go traffic with light, if any throttle applied. on 6-8-12 engine went into failsafe mode, 1100 rpm while traveling at 60 mph. no response from throttle, had to manipulate thru traffic to beach car upon shoulder of road. after shutting off key and restarting, vehicle seemed fine, but same situation happened twice more within minutes. drove car to nearest ford dealer who "cleared the old codes" and test drove, finding no further issue. billed me under esp service agreement, and continued onto work. leaving work to make deliveries, car initiated exactly same response as earlier (5 times), at various speeds, and again, heavy traffic. took to dealer i bought car from, who immediately claimed it needed a new throttle body, which are on national back-order, delivery date unknown. referred to another dealer who had open bays and a throttle body in stock, but for some reason was uninterested in even looking at the car. offered to leave car, esp offers rental, so i could return to work, but that part has become uncovered by the extended warranty, and they still had no interest in fixing car after i agreed to pay myself. transmission has a quirky problem of downshifting aggressively when traveling downhill, up-shifting rapidly in slow moving traffic, and now a throttle body problem which causes car to go into a no power situation while at speed. *js

When driving the vehicle it will seemingly randomly bring the engine down to idle or stall the car completely and send a p2111 or p2112 error code (throttle body stuck open/close, respectively) and the car needs to be completely shut off in order to bring the car back into a normal running state. resetting the car does not guarantee that the issue will go away, and about 40-50% of the time the car stalls again right after attempting to re-enter traffic. this issue will commonly happen when making turns, although it is not limited to that situation. *tr

Approximately two years ago, i was driving down rt 28 in fairfax, va. i was going about 60 mph when my car turned off. no power steering, no brakes, to speed. the car behind me slammed on his brakes and narrowly missed rear ending me. i made it over to the shoulder. i took my car to koons ford sterling, they told me it was the throttle body. i called ford motor customer relationship center and told them what happened and also told them that i goggled it and found many other people complaining about the same thing. i was told that ford had no knowledge of problems with the throttle body. i paid to have the work done. fast forward...............three weeks ago we received a letter from ford telling us that the throttle body was now being recalled and if we have already had the work done, we should take the receipt up to the dealership for our refund. well that was on april 1. still nothing. each time i call i'm told that it's still under review. aside from the fact that i probably will never get a refund, i'm wondering how many people died from this. it took ford 2-3 years to do this recall. *tt

My wife was turning left into a parking space in a parking lot at 2mph or less when the vehicle suddenly accelerated at high rpms. our vehicle slammed into the vehicle to the right of the space my wife would have entered. heavy damage was caused to our veh. and to the parked veh. my wife was unsure if she had caused the acdt or if it was a mechanical defect. because of the very heavy and rapid acceleration, i didn't think it in any way was driver error. after it was repaired, our 2010 fusion was checked out by a ford dealer and nothing was found amiss. a year later in nov. of 2012, i was driving the car at approximately 50mph when the engine suddenly revved up about 150 to 200rpms. this didn't cause any great acceleration but, considering my wife's experience, i immediately shifted to neutral. just as i got into neutral, the engine revved up to 2500 to 3000rpms. had the car been in drive, a collision could have happened or i could have lost control. ford was contacted, car inspected, again nothing wrong. a service writer tried to tell us that the rubber floor mat was on the accelerator pedal. the mat doesn't gain weight to suddenly depress the pedal all by itself! ford's great lakes regional manager was not very forthcoming-she wasn't apparently aware that there were youtube videos of 2010 fusion owners filming their dashboards as their cars did the same as i have described above. the car is being driven regularly but both of us have a hand on the gear shift alot of the time. considering our experiences and the youtube postings, i think ford is trying to avoid an expensive recall. didn't toyota use the floor mat excuse for years? *tr

While driving the car to get on freeway it boggled down like it was going to turn off and check engine light turned on and wrench symbol so pulled to the side and car was shaking as if it had no gas so turned off for 3 min and turned back on and drove not even a mile down the road and it did the same thing so turned off and on again and it ran as if was fine not even a month later started doing the same thing once you drive and it starts to accelerate it boggles down and lights come on. got it checked and was told it was the throttle body which is happening in a lot of ford fusion 2010 cars. *tr

Selling / servicing dealer began advising of carbon build up in throttle body ~15000 mi. ~20000 mi with cruise control engaged engine lost power, service engine soon light and throttle control / transmission light both illuminated, vehicle rough idled. shut off engine and restarted after ~ 30 seconds. engine ran normally. read/cleared dtc p2111. reported to dealer on 07 sept 2011 but was unable to diagnose any problem. problem has been intermittent since. due to battery failure prior to 35000 mi service (19 nov 12) engine codes were lost. dealer performed induction service. after 40000 mi service (24 may 13) had multiple instances of the above failure with dtc p2111 with increasing frequency. on 8 june 13 had 3 occurrences at vehicle speeds of less than 45 mph with one at less than 25 mph while accelerating (entering traffic). vehicle was diagnosed by a different deal with a failed throttle body requiring replacement. *tr

while going 70 mph on the highway i experienced the same issues. my car stalled out shut off the cruise control and started shaking uncontrollable. i shut off the car and waited about five minutes and started it back up drove maybe another ten miles and it started again. on the following day i took it to the dealership where i purchased it from and they made it seem as if i had no ideal of what i was talking about. once they realized i knew that it was the throttle body assembly that was the problem i was told that this was not a part that was covered under warranty so i would have to pay for it out of pocket. i took the time to talk to several reps at ford and i was told that if the mechanic did not think it was defective then there was nothing they could do. i talked to the mechanic at the dealership and they told me that it just stopped working. so i ended up paying $479.05 for a new throttle body assembly and having to be without my car for a total of four day. only to get it back with a cracked windshield, but that is a different issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times without warning while driving at various speeds. the wrench warning light illuminated after the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and a diagnostic was performed but the technicians were unable to generate a failure code. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 18,000 and the current mileage 21,000.

Pushed accelerator with no response above idle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 51,000 and current mileage was 61,000.

My fusion has multiple issues. the first being a stalling issue when sitting at a stop, when you press the accelerator the car just dies. it has done this to me multiple times the latest being with my wife who now refuses to drive the car. it doesn't post a code and starts right up; with no code the ford says they cannot help. the second issue is terrible shifting and very slow response to throttle movements. the shift from 1st gear to 2nd has been very bad; ford has flashed the computer multiple times which did nothing. ford says without a code they are not able to help. this has been an issue with the car from day 1. third issue is when you are accelerating and have to hit the brakes, when you get back on the gas the car acts as if the motor was turned off. you have to push the accelerator to the floor to get it to respond. i have almost been hit multiple times due to this issue. again no code so ford says they cannot do anything. *tr

On a highway i started from a stop and my 2010 ford fusion moved forward and then dropped into idle with no response to the accelerator and i was forced to pull drift off the highway into the nearest parking lot. i called the dealer and moved slowly to the dealer for an assessed faulty original electronic throttle assembly requiring replacement for $629.00 with a backlog of 9000 of those parts in the ford supply system. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the engine rpm increased and the vehicle jerked without warning . the vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was 21,000.

This problem has happened multiple times. when i hit the gas after slowing down, the vehicle will not move. i will have to jam down on the gas pedal before it does anything. at that point, the rpm's fly up and the car will finally start moving. it is inevitable that this will cause me to get into a car accident and even possibly killed one day. there have been several times where i have been just shy of getting slammed into by oncoming traffic as i turn in from of them cause my vehicle is not moving. also there have been three instances in which the car will totally stop moving. the car is on, but it will not go. i will hit the gas and nothing happens. i have to shut the car completely off and then back on again in order to get it to move. i have complained to the dealership several times about problems with my vehicle and nothing ever gets done.this is extremely dangerous and i fear for my life cause of this problem that continues to go unheeded by the dealership. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the wrench warning icon after the failure occurred. the failure recurred several times. the check engine warning light was also illuminated and remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure; however the dealer was not able to determine a cause for the failure. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for inspection where the vehicle was test driven and the failure was duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure approximate failure mileage 1,000 and the current failure mileage was 40,000.

At 2000 miles had car back for brakes.its been back 8 times. they have cut the rotors and replaced pads and still jumps after about 5000 miles. vibration in car that they couldnt find y. replaced trottle body . there is an issue with the brakes they need to find out whats wrong. they have cut the rotors down to the point they replaced them and the ones on the front arent 6 months old and they cut them again. *tt

i have a 2010 ford fusion with a six cylinder engine. while driving , i started speeding up from an intersection, only to experience a complete and total loss of power, the wrench light came, the engine started misfiring (rough idle at less than 700 rpm), but all systems where still working. pressing the gas pedal produced no results. i was able to pull off the side of the road, stop the engine, let the car sit for about 45 seconds, and then restarted it. when the engine restarted, the car started up and ran like nothing had happened. last thursday and friday, the fusion did the exact same thing, i had a catastrophic loss of power, the wrench light came on again, the engine was misfiring (rough idle), the rest of the systems continued working. i was able to pull off the road, stop the car , and then restart. this is third time i take to the dealer, and still received not diagnostic. actually this vehicle is in the dealer workshop (automovilistica veracruzana sa de cv. av lafragua 2100 tel 011 52 229 9231920 veracruz, mexico) . the first and second visit to the dealer the diagnostic was no problem. *tr
