Problems with 2010 Ford Fusion ENGINE

On average, the 2010 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 60 342 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

Driving at 65mph in traffic on a state highway when the vehicle failed to respond to the accelerator. vehicle went to approximately 750 rpm and there was no speed control. this failure occurred without any warning as i was passing another car and required me to take evasive action to avoid collision. dealership says it was throttle body control unit and that there are "known problems". *tr

On 7/22/2012 at approximately 2000 hours my family was traveling southbound on georgia state route 3 - us hwy. 41 in rocky face, georgia when our vehicle (2010 ford fusion automatic transmission) suddenly without notice went from a solid cruising speed of 40mph to an abrupt halt - nose of the car actually went forward towards the ground so abruptly that it made contact with the ground. the vehicle stalled (still barely running) in the lane of travel and would not get any throttle acceleration. my family and vehicle was almost struck by on coming motorists from the rear due to the abrupt stopping and the vehicle would barely get any throttle acceleration. after the georgia state patrol trooper came to assist the car would not go above 25 mph without suddenly stalling and the check engine light coming on along with an orange wrench symbol. the vehicle had to be abandoned at the dalton georgia state patrol post due to this issue until ford could send a representative to tow the vehicle to the local dealer where we purchased. the local dealer on 7/23/12 informed us that this is an on-going problem that ford is aware of and that the "throttle body" would have to be replaced. upon further online investigation i found that this issue is widespread and reported since 2010 & has caused very unsafe conditions for motorists such as it did with my family. i am asking you all to look into recalling the "throttle body" on the 2010 ford fusions to be replaced. this is a problem that ford is aware of and they are blatantly passing the blame off onto the consumer and someone (if not my own family) is going to get hurt. it is unsafe for a late model vehicle that has been serviced as required by the manufacture every 3-5 months to have these abrupt issues and break my family down in the roadway of travel on a major us highway. nhtsa please have ford correct before someone gets injured!! *tr

At highway speed, there was a controlled loss of power to the engine. upon shutting down and restarting, the problem cleared but recurred. the vehicle was serviced and the electronic throttle body was replaced. *jb

While driving down the road, my engine lost power. rpms went down, and the accelerator was not responsive. i pulled the car to the side of the road, and put it in park. the engine idled very roughly. i shut off the car, waited 5 seconds and attempted to restart. the engine did restart after some effort by the starter. i drove down the road, and the car behaved normally. this seemingly isolated incident increased in frequency in the following weeks. sometimes up to 5 times a day. i took my car to an authorized ford dealer, and the problem was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body. cost of replacement is $355. i researched the problem online and noticed that the problem seems to be fairly common among 2010 ford fusion owners. the online complaints about fusion throttle body problems were exactly the same as the symptoms i experienced. the danger lies in the fact that the car basically stalls without warning and must be restarted before normal driving can resume. i have experienced this problem at both highway and city speeds. a stalled engine in the wrong place at the wrong time (middle of an intersection, freeway, while passing, etc.) could have disastrous effects. *tr

With no warning or other signs, the car stalled out. driving on a flat /straight road. pulled to the side of the road and restarted the car without issue. 3hrs later the same issue. two days after that my wife experienced the same issue. checking on the internet, this seems to be a re-occurring theme for the electronic throttle bodies of the ford fusion. *tr

My 2010 ford fusion lurched forward and then stalled while on the highway driving with the cruise control on. the service engine light and a wrench appeared on the dash. i was losing speed and had to get to the side of the highway causing the semi and other vehicles behind me to slam on their brakes... the semi narrowly missed me. once to the side of the highway i turned my car off waited a second and restarted it. it ran fine for about 5 miles and it did it again. it did this a total of 4 times on the way to work and 5 on the way home. i took the car in to a service center and the code they got was "p2111 throttle actuator stuck open". i looked online and found that 2011 and 12 fusions had been recalled for this problem but not the 2010 but see that many 2010 owners have had this same issue as i have had. why are 2010 fusions not being recalled for a bad throttle body? it is a very scary and serious problem and only a matter of time before someone is injured or even killed. i was lucky. *tr

I accelerated away from a stop light and as i shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear the car jerked and i had no power at all the engine was still running, but when i put my foot into the accelerator nothing happened. also a wrench was displayed in the warning light area of the dash. i was able to coast to the side of the road and turned the car off. when i restarted it about 15 seconds later the wrench was gone and the car seemed fine. i am reporting this because i see that it is happening to a large number of 2010 fusion owners with similar mileage and it can be a real safety issue when your car dies in traffic! *tr

As i was leaving work and pulling out of the parking lot, the engine sputtered, choked, wheezed and eventually would not go over 10-15 mph. check engine light came on and vehicle died. had the vehicle towed the next day to the local ford dealership and was informed that i had a defective throttle body that had caused the problem and also had created a lot of debris in the fuel intake system. cleaning of the fuel intake system and replacement of the throttle body was around $700. i didn't think anything of it at the time until i saw on the news that nhtsa had opened an inquiry into this possible defect on the fusions, so i wanted to add that i had a similar problem as was being investigated. *tr

Driving on an interstate about 55 mph and wrench light came on engine lost ability to accelerate i.e. went into safe mode and had to maneuver through traffic to the shoulder. this occurred multiple times from july through august 2012 on various types of roadways (highway, neighborhood roads) until the problem was fixed by a ford dealership. cause of the problem according to the invoice was the throttle body. they replaced the throttle body and the problem has gone away. *tr

2010 ford fusion/just bought it in february 2012. this is the first problem i have had. i was going to work on i-40 and was setting the cruise at approx. 60-62 mph and all the sudden it jerked a little and stalled/when i depressed the gas it didn't do anything. the speed kept dropping....i had to cross over three very busy lanes of early morning commuter traffic and was scared someone would hit me before i could make it to the side of the road. i had to cut the car off and re start. drove off to work with no problems that day. after researching on the internet i see where numerous people have had this same problem with the ford fusion and have feared for their safety driving the vehicle. mechanics have said it is the throttle body and that ford has had to replace numerous of these. if this is a known problem there should be a recall before someone is seriously hurt if not killed. thank you! *tr

I was traveling on the freeway at 65 mph. i heard a thump, the wrench lite came on and then i lost acceleration power. i had to coast off the freeway and come to a stop. i still had steering and brakes but no power. i had car towed to the ford dealer who replaced the throttle body assembly. i have read so many of these reports and i feel, like the others, that it is only a matter of time before someone is hurt or killed! ford needs to get on the ball and make this a recall. *tr

Was driving out of a parking lot car suddenly stalled when accelerating. had to park and restart car to reengage engine. wrench and engine lights came on. car stalled out three more times going around the block. diag code was p0455. dealer initially replaced purge valve. on way home from dealership repair, engine cut out going 70 on highway. returned car to dealer. diag code was p2112. dealer replaced throttle body. car seems to be running normally now. this was a scary problem and a huge possible safety hazard when the vehicle cuts out unexpectedly at random times. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated abnormally before stalling. the check engine and wrench warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel during the failure. the contact was able to restart the vehicle as the vehicle resumed normal operation. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer but the vehicle was not repaired. the cause of the failure was unknown. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 89,000. the vin was unavailable.

Today i was at a red light when my car decided to act up. the light had just turned green and i had started to drive when all of the sudden my car lost power. it struggled then just stalled right in the middle of traffic. i looked at the dash and i noticed the wrench light came on. while i was trying not to die in traffic i put my car into neutral where i turned the key to the off position then back to the on position. luckily my car came back on but it was still struggling. i managed to get the car to a nearby parking lot where turned it off again. i gave it a few minutes to recover then turned it back on again. everything now appeared to working normal. i opened the hood to make sure everything seamed okay (nothing burning, smoking, or anything else out of the ordinary), everything checked out okay. also i would like to mention that my transmission sometimes fails to go into gear then all the sudden it goes into gear and jerks really hard. additionally my lower gears will shift very hard. when it shifts it acts as if someone had pushed in the clutch for to long then it goes into gear. *tr

Whle driving my 2010 ford fusion, the car will just stall and cut off while driving with no warning, the engine light and the wrench light comes on, i will turn off the car, wait a few minutes and it will restart, this happens consistantly sometimes as much as 4 times a day, this is definitiely a safety issue because one time when the car stalled, i was almost hit from behind. *tr

There is a serious problem with this car in that it will completely shut down while traveling at any speed whether 15 mph or 70 mph, with no warning. this could cause serious harm especially traveling on the interstate where you can be hit from behind at a high rate of speed. the car will restart after a few minutes, but when doing so will cancel the engine service code p2111 so that the dealer cannot id the problem. if you experience this problem, make them keep driving it until it happens to the service person. issue is defective throttle body -potentiometer. the computer can't tell how much the throttle is open so it shut down. my teenager was driving this car and was almost re-ended twice. very dangerous problem. car should be recalled for this issue!!!!! *tr

Had noticed several times that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate after pushing the gas. later that afternoon, while accelerating from a stoplight, the vehicle started shaking and lost all power. i was able to get the vehicle into a parking lot and turned it off. when i restarted, the engine seemed to run normally but still hesitated to go when the gas was pressed. i got the car to a dealership and they explained that the throttle body was bad - "a common thing on these cars". ford is refusing to cover the replacement under warranty, claiming that this is not part of the drive train - though admitting that the car will not function without the part. *tr

On multiple occasions the car will just lose all throttle response, the car is still running, but will not accelerate. i have to find some place to pull over and shut the car off. then restart the engine and then it will run good. the issue happens sometimes up six times in one day, and then you can go a week without an issue. i have seen this issue with speeds as low as 20 mph all the way up to 70 mph. from what i have read online it would appear to possibly be due to a defective throttle body. apparently this throttle body uses a servo to open and close the butterfly that allows air into the intake manifold. i feel this could be a very dangerous problem especially if you are driving and it loses the ability to accelerate and you can not find a safe place to pull over to restart the car. *tr

While stopped with foot on break - the engine began to rev and the car began to lurch forward. i had to keep pressing harder on the brake i looked down to be sure i did not have my foot on the gas and i did not. i had to put the car in park and turn off the ignition to get the car to stop reving up and lurching forward. my wife told me she had a similar incident with the engine reving up when she had the car on cruise control but it only lasted a few moments, in that incident she was going 60. also, we do not have the floor mats that we read about in other posts online. *js

I was traveling uphill on a rural road when my car started shaking and would not accelerate. the wrench light came on followed by the engine light. i pulled off the road as far as i could turned the car off and back on it went a little further and started shaking again. i was on a blind curve on a road that is narrow and traveled faster than it should be fortunately i was able to coax the car to an area where the road opens up a little. i had to leave the car overnight and someone chose to vandalize it. i had it towed to the dealer who was a little rude when i talked to them. the dealer said it was the electronic throttle body and it is not something covered by ford. so now i have to pay for this part and labor cost and my deductible for the vandalization. with so many other complaints posted here i don't understand why nothing is being done. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that when driving approximately 5 -60 mph, the vehicle would shake violently and then stall without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle however, the failure would recur on an intermittent basis. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was later contacted but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000. the current mileage was approximately 63,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the failure recurred frequently. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the current mileage was 59,000. the failure mileage was 55,000.

Driving in heavy traffic the car lost power going up a hill, as if the gas pedal had been disconnected. luckily i was able to avoid being hit and pulled out of the way. after a few minutes the car did start again but the shifting is strange and it dies a lot. i called ford dealership and they stated it was probably the throttle body as they had been replacing them left and right. this would not be covered by any warranty and would cost around $500. i then had a private mechanic look at it. he drove it around and the car died on him 3 times in this one trip. so after checking...he confirmed it is the throttle body but the part is on a national back order and would take up to 6 weeks. the manager of the service department at the ford dealership is very aware of the problem with the fusions and advised me to contact ford corporate. i did and their response to the problem was "we apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you.we highly recommend that your vehicle be inspected by your servicing ford dealership to determine the cause of any symptoms your vehicle may be experiencing. they have factory trained technicians, comprehensive service information and specialized equipment to help diagnose your vehicle." right, more money for them. someone needs to do something about this before someone gets hurt in an accident. ford needs to stand behind their product. it's obvious by the national back order that there is a problem somewhere. *tr

Driving down the highway going to work and the engine kept loosing power took it to ford once and they said it was a bad fuse got it back and drove it to work again and the engine stalled out 7 times within 2 miles i had to have it towed back to ford and they said my throttle body broke and needed replaced. *tr

I was driving on the highway at a steady speed when all of a sudden, the gas pedal stopped responding, almost as if i was in neutral. i was able to get over to the shoulder. it took a few tries of restarting the car in order to get it going. the same incident happened again the next week. *tr

I was traveling at 60mph in morning rush hour traffic when the 2010 ford fusion lost acceleration. then the car started to chug so i pulled off onto the shoulder before the exit. it was not a full shoulder as the car was still occupying half of a lane. a ten-wheeler truck was right behind me and fortunately was able to stop.the car had to be towed to the dealership and the throttle body had to be replaced. this car is a safety hazard. *tr

Driving at 70 mph and car lost power. *tr

Vehicle goes into "limp-home" mode suddenly and unexpectedly. happened on i-95 and was lucky i could pull over without getting killed. dealer could not find problem although this should have been well-known to them by then. happened several times since and got worse and now car is immobile and too dangerous to drive. apparently a problem with fuel injection throttle body which ford is well aware of and part is back-ordered 7-10 days (they say). nhtsa initiated an investigation of problem in feb 2013 but ford has not informed customers of this very dangerous situation nor offered any fix. seems unconscionable to me. what does nhtsa propose to do about this and why hasn't it done so? this situation is literally without exaggeration a danger to human life and the manufacturer does nothing. what is nhtsa for? *tr

The car had run fine on my way to work and leaving for lunch. it would not start when i tried to return from lunch. same problem as last month, it would not start until the third try. *tt

On saturday june 16th i was traveling north bound i-75 from rockcastle co. ky to madison co ky which is about 45 miles. was traveling 65 miles mph and suddenly the engine shut off. there was a semi in the right lane, we were in the middle lane with one semi in back of us. we were able to coast to the emergency side of the road. the semi in back of us locked his brake and almost hit us. i shut the car off and restarted it and drove in the slow lane and it happened 3 more times. i then left the car at my mother in-law's house and borrowed a car to get home in as i was afraid to drive it and put myself at risk plus someone's life at risk. on monday, 6-18-12 i got the car to the dealership and the mechanic test drove it and it happened to him. i pulled up on the internet and saw that i am not the only one this has happened to. it definitely is a life ending crash getting ready to happen. of course my vehicle is out of warranty as of 35000 miles, but that is not my issue. i would hate to see someone lose their life due a malfunction of a throttle body. ford needs to step up to the plate and admit that know of this issue and fix it before someone loses their life or a child's life. the foreign makers such as toyota stepped up and ford needs to do so also. this is the fourth automobile i have brought from them and try to stay with the american made cars. safety should be their concern instead of the almighty dollar. *tr

As i was driving at approximately 40 mph on a busy 4 lane highway, and my engine lost all power. it slowed to about 3 mph and would not accelerate at all, nearly causing a major crash. i had to proceed for a distance to find a place to pull off the road. i turned the car off for maybe 5 minutes then restarted the car and it seemed to be over the problem. i contacted the local dealer and was told it was the "throttle body" that was causing the problem and they did not have any on stock since they have been repairing other vehicles with this part... the problem has happened 3 more times now and because it is a safety issue i need to replace the part myself and not wait for ford. my car has now passed 36,000 miles and is not covered by warranty. *tr

I and my children were traveling down the highway at 60 mph and i all of a sudden i could not give the car any gas. the motor was still running but i had no control over the gas. so i coasted until i could pull over. as i slowed down, the car shuttered. i turned the car off and restarted it. it ran fine for awhile. then it happened again and again (as i was entering an intersection, turning onto a major highway, and rounding a curve) until it was happening 3-4 times in a trip. i took the vehicle in to the dealership and they cleaned the throttle body. it ran ok for about 2 weeks and then became worse than it was before. i took it back to the dealership and they replaced the throttle body. so now time will tell. i was/am concerned about the fact i might not have been so lucky to be able to get off of the road and could have been in an accident. i have seen that this is a common occurrence in the 2010 ford fusion. i have contacted ford motor company as well to no avail. *tr

I was just leaving my neighborhood and just got down to the end of the road, when all of a sudden i feel this really bad shaking, had no acceleration when pressed on gas and car kept jerking until i finally had to shut it off. i did research on it immediately and found out that this is a throttle body issue that has become very relevant with my car make/model. this is very dangerous! if i was in heavy traffic or god forbid had kids in the car, this could have caused a major accident! this recall needs to be taken seriously and addressed fast!!!! *tr

Driving in the left lane of a multi-lane road. the light had just gone yellow and all of a sudden the engine hicupped hard and i had no response to the gas pedal at all, plus the check engine light (wrench icon) came on. put on my signal and pulled into the left turn lane as it was empty. i didn't want to block the left lane, it was the start of rush hour traffic. i came to a stop and had no vehicle movement in response to stepping on the gas pedal. i put the vehicle in park, turned off the engine and tried to restart it. the check engine light went away and the car started and acted normal. i stopped at the store on the way home, then on the way from the store to home it happened again. i had to stop the vehicle and put it in park and turn it off in order for it to start again. when i got home i put a code reader on the vehicle, but it showed no code. it did it again on my way to work in the morning and again on the way home after work. each time i have to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road and come to a complete stop, put it in park and turn it off and back on to get it to start again. this is extremely dangerous for me and anyone around me. i take my vehicle to ford for servicing and they say no recalls are in place for this. i enter the symptoms into the search engine of the internet and find numerous complaints from other owners and drivers of the same defect. there is a problem with the electronic throttle body. i called my local ford dealer and they say that first they have to run tests to verify the throttle body is the problem and i will be charged for that, because the code resets each time. the total bill will be $600 to $700. they have dealt with it before, but ford has nothing in place to address it as a safety issue. please don't wait til someone gets hurt or possibly killed before this matter is taken seriously and proper measures are taken. *tr

Multiple times the engine just dies due to a faulty throttle body - you must come to a complete stop and put the car in park to restart. we have a fleet of these and lots of them have this very dangerous problem. please help... *js

I was driving at approximately 45 mph, when car decelerated, and started to stall. a wrench light was on, and i was able to slowly make my way to a driveway off of the main highway. i turned off the engine, waited for a few minutes before starting the car and making my way home. i plan to take to ford dealer tomorrow. however, it appears, based on many, many complaints, that this is an issue with the throttle body. ford needs to recall/replace this part. my 19-year-old daughter drives this car, and safety is a major issue! *tr

I was sitting at a red light, when the light turned green i accelerated through the light. upon making the turn, the car stalled (shuddered, and although applying the gas, nothing happened) and the 'wrench' icon illuminated. i pulled over to the side of the road (thankfully there was little traffic at this time of day), turned the car off, waited a minute, and re-started the car. the average speed for that day was 30mph, through neighborhoods and light commercial area. the car stalled once again (about 10 minutes later) while at a stop sign, at another intersection. i was able to restart the car again, and took it to my mechanic. the stalling has reoccurred multiple times, even when slowing, but not stopping, and attempting to resume speed. the diagnosis was the throttle body. the mechanic replaced the throttle body, the throttle sensor (on advice from the ford dealership in the area), and after 1 month of this issue reoccurring, had the ford dealership 'flash' the computer. this has still not solved the problem. typically after 2 days of retrieving the vehicle from the mechanic, the same stalling with the wrench icon occurs. this is a safety issue! many vehicles are stalling in traffic, and accidents will occur! *js

I purchased my car used on november 30, 2012 when the mileage was around 29,000. for the past several months i have noticed that my car would hesitate, but not completely stall, when going approx. 25, 35 and 45, and sometimes even when i first took off. i did not expect to experience any of the major problems that i have read about and was truly shocked once i had my first encounter. my first incident occurred on an interstate where i was going approx. 70. the car began shaking badly and i pulled over on the side of the road. the only thing i could compare it to was having a tire to blow out but much, much worse. i checked my tires and, then i started the car up and kept going to my destination. a few days later it occurred again on a rural road where i was going 55. i once again stopped and started it again and made it to my destination. this truly scared me to where my nerves were frazzled, and every time i drive now, i'm afraid it will happen again. i am in a rural area that is mountainous and where 18-wheelers constantly travel the interstates, which makes it that much more dangerous. there is definitely something seriously wrong with the 2010 fusion. i just hope something is done before someone actually has an accident and gets killed. *tr

While accelerating from a stop the engine suddenly cut out and began a rough idle. the check engine light and the wrench light came on. the engine would not rev even with the gas pedal pushed in. coasted to a stop. turned the ignition off and then restarted the car. the check engine light and wrench light were no longer lit. started to accelerate away and then it happened again with the check engine light and wrench light on. i was able to idle home. once at home i turned the ignition off and started it back up. this time the check engine light came on but not the wrench. while in park i would rev the engine and it sounded fine and could not get the engine to shut down while revving. i didn't move the car and had it towed. fortunately it has only 32707 miles on it and covered by warranty. so, will have to wait to find out what the cause is. based on other complaints and their follow-up it sounds like the throttle body issue. *tr

Making a left hand turn from a complete stop onto a busy avenue when the "wrench light" on the dash light up, the car started to shudder & could not accelerate, and had to pull over to the side of the road. turned car off and back on and it happened again within 1 mile. drove to the home of a friend and had him go with me to try and figure out what was wrong. car shook hard and nearly died when coming to a stop sign. after doing a google search of the problem i found it to be a very widespread problem and many times at 70 mph in heavy traffic even on new cars with as few as 1300 miles on them. this is very dangerous and only a matter of time before somebody dies. in many cases rather than losing the ability to accelerate, the opposite will happen and the car goes full throttle forward! there is an avalanche of documentation on this problem and ford refuses to do a safety recall. the nhtsa's sole reason to exist in the first place is safety and this is clearly unsafe. rest assured that if the nhtsa does not force ford to do a recall people will die. as for myself and several others i have been in contact with, we will be filing a lawsuit against ford for their negligence and the nhtsa for failing to act despite the large volume of readily accessible information regarding this very serious safety issue. *tr

Going about 75 mph with cruise on when problem occurred. the wrench light comes on and the car loses its acceleration completely. i pull over the side of the road. the engine would only turn 1000 rpm. the only way to fix it is to turn the car off and back on again. the wrench light will disappear after that and it'll start driving normally again. the problems seems to be with a bad throttle body assembly part. contacted ford about safety problem. many examples on the internet of other owners with this problem with the 2010 ford fusion. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was driving 35 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure was recurring. the contact would wait a few minutes to restart the engine without any problems. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who ran a diagnostic test and informed her that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,241.

While driving the car stalled out, went into safe mode, and had to coast off the road. happened several more times and took the car to the repair shop. mechanic diagnosed a faulty throttle body assembly and attempted to clean it. afterwards the car stalled again and the mechanic replaced the throttle body. just purchased a used mercury milan with 31,600 miles on and had the exact same problem occur. ford evidently has an issue with throttle body assemblies on these model of cars that can cause accidents. *tr

The vehicle loss power while driving and completely shut down while driving in the interstate. i brought the vehicle to lamarque ford and was told that it was the throttle body. last week, i was again getting on the interstate and the same thing happened. this time i have 40300 miles on the vehicle. i was told that it would not be covered because the vehicle was out of warranty and the parts warranty was only good for a year. in addition, i was told that the part is on back order and it will take 2 to 3 weeks for the dealership to get the part. the dealership told me that this was not a common problem, but after reading on your site, it is very well known with this car. i am afraid to drive this car since it just completely shuts down and hesitates to start back up. it has left me stranded many times, including late at night while picking up my child. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was traveling 70 mph when the vehicle stalled. the contact safely maneuvered to the shoulder and stopped the vehicle. the check engine light illuminated during the failure. the contact was able to successfully restart the vehicle and continue driving. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 55,000.

On 5/12/12 coming home from a softball tournament with the cruise on at around 65 mph the yellow wrench light came on. engine was still running but could not accelerate. coasted into a church parking lot. put the car in park and restarted. when restarting seemed hard to start...like an alternator issue. arrived home safely (was about 5 miles from home when incident happened). on 5/13/12 (sunday) same issue except it happened 3 times during a 30 mile trip. the last time i had pulled over and put it into park i was worried it wouldn't start...turned and turned but slowly...again sounded like an alternator. i had issues with the cruise control a few months back and of course nothing was found to be wrong. short story is when i hit "resume" to get it back to the speed it was while on cruise control the rpm's will run 5000-6000 for f a r longer than it should. the car will be to the desired speed and it will stay at the high rpm for 4-6 seconds instead of kicking into the next gear which obviously is hard on the engine and gas mileage. not happy with the dealership in their investigation of matters and not happy with the car itself. *tr

The car would not start on the first two tries and i let it sit a moment and it started on the third try. *tt

The first time, the car was pulling on to a main road going up to 15 mph while turning right. the car began to shudder, stall (only able to coast to a stop), many warning lights including the wrench light came on and dinged. after shutting the key off and waiting up to a couple of minutes, engine started fine and drove normally. 1 month later, this exact scenario happened again while turning right from a complete stop. 1 month later, it happened again but with only the yellow wrench light coming on (the car was curving to the right at about 40 mph). 2 days later the car did the same thing at about 35 mph. this time the car would start up, and be fine until we accelerated. we narrowly avoided an accident when the car did the same thing a second time. it then did it a third time and we waited to start the car. we were then able to drive the car home normally with a code alert on the dash. i took the car to get a diagnosis and they showed code p2111. *tr

I have a 2010 ford fusion with a four cylinder engine. while driving to work, i started speeding up from an intersection, only to experience a complete and total loss of power, the wrench light came, the engine started misfiring (rough idle at less than 550 rpm), but all systems where still working. pressing the gas pedal produced no results. i was able to pull off the side of the road, stop the engine, let the car sit for about 15 seconds, and then restarted it. when the engine restarted, the car started up and ran like nothing had happened. yesterday (june 1st), the fusion did the exact same thing, except this time i was pulling into an intersection (approximately 5 miles per hour). i had a catastrophic loss of power, the wrench light came on again, the engine was misfiring (rough idle), the rest of the systems continued working. luckily no one was coming in my direction and i was able to pull off the road into a parking lot, stop the car, and then restart it. i took it to the dealer today and they diagnosed it as needing a new throttle body. they quoted the price and labor at $400 for the repair. i've had this car less than 1 year and it only has 49,800 miles on it. if i had been pulling onto a busy street and experienced the same loss of power, it could have been a much more dangerous situation. according to my research, this is a common problem with the 2010 ford fusion, and the replacement part has been "redesigned" according to the dealer where i took my car for repair. *tr

My 2010 ford fusion has become a death trap.. the car will stall out without warning, whether on the highway or a street.. this started happening in august 2012. i just bought the car in june of 2012, and it ran fine until july 2012.. that's when i would be riding down the street and the car would stall and sputter, wrench light would come on and there would be no power to the car, no way to accelerate at all..after having it towed to the dealer.. they replaced the battery which wasn't bad and cleaned the mass airflow for $416.. this did not fix the problem..now the worst thing happened, my daughter was in a accident that caused over $6000 in damage and ford refuses to recall these cars... they are very dangerous and the throttle body needs replacing according to my research.. parts are on back order , so that should be a reason for a recall before somebody gets killed!!! i have contacted ford to get some justice on this issue. *tr
