We have classified the 258 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I was driving the vehicle home and the wrench light came on and the car would no longer respond to the accelerator pedal. i coasted to a stop the engine still running but no acceleration. *tr
1st incident: car stalled in traffic while going 40 mph, coasted into parking lot, restarted car and drove fine - no warning lights 2nd incident: 6 weeks later with no issues or warning lights car stalled again late at night while going 35 mph up a small rise 3rd incident: 2 days later - still no warning lights, car suddenly lost power, did not stall, but would not go over 5 mph while entering attempting to enter interstate. sat on side of interstate for 45 minutes waiting on a tow truck. i had the car towed to a ford dealership. they replaced the throttle body which cost $385. the notes on the invoice state they "retrieved code p2111 throttle system stuck open." i feel certain ford has some serious issues with these cars as the transmission has already had to be rebuilt.
On multiple occasions my car has started to stall out as i began to accelerate. the first time happened when exiting the highway, where i came to a yield sign, i then proceeded to accelerate onto the road after yielding and the car would not accelerate and started to have jumpy motions and kept revving every time i would try to step on the gas pedal. i didn't think much of it at that time. then one day on another exit onto the highway with busy traffic i slowed down to see if traffic was clear to merge and when i went to accelerate into traffic it repeated the same symptoms. the last time it happened was i was exiting the highway and once again tried to merge into traffic and it happened again but it also happened at the red light directly after the merge. i was not trying to accelerate too quickly on any of the occasions but it makes it extremely dangerous to pull into traffic. i took the car into the ford dealership to get the problem checked out and they came back that the electronic throttle body on my 2010 vehicle was bad and that they would have to replace it. they then proceeded to tell me that the part was on backorder and i was number 2 on the list to receive the part because they have three cars in the shop with the same problem. this seems to be a regular occurrence with my type of vehicle in my search for answers i have seen multiple forums with people posting about this problem. the ford associate also told me that the part should be recalled but he wasn't sure that it ever would. as someone who drives frequently on the highway this is a huge concern to me that i will go to accelerate into traffic and end up seriously injured because my car won't accelerate. needless to say it has been almost two weeks since i took my car into the dealership and i am still waiting on the part from ford. *tr
At any given time, usually when we are driving the car over 25 miles an hour, the car will abruptly stutter and then stall. this is a very dangerous situation since when i am on the interstate, the vehicle will turn off while we are in heavy traffic. we have researched this issue and several hundred owners have the same problem which appears to be with the throttle body assembly. we called ford and they said that we need to take it in. for a potential serious dangerous situation, there was a lack of care and concern on their part. i believe that someone should investigate the stalling of this vehicle and mandate that ford resolve this problem. *tr
Since this vehicle was made with no gas cap my engine light is always on. any little bit of dirt i drive yet gets into the seal of the gas tank so my engine light pops on and states there is some sort of leak in the system. i can't afford to keep taking it in to pay and arm and a leg for the dealership just to blow out the seal. so my engine light is always on. this is a very dangerous problem because you never know if there is an actual problem with the vehicle or if it's just that dirt in the seal of the gas tank. big mistake by ford and they should fix it or they will definitely lose my business...which i've been ford loyal since i was old enough to drive. i will also deter anyone else i know from buying for just for the capless gas tank feature!!!!! *tr
Car appears to stall for no reason. apparently (according to ford) the car was not completely stalling but instead going into a "limp home mode" when car computer detected an engine problem. car was brought to dealer and they replaced the throttle body which corrected the problem (over $400). this "stalling" effect occurred on interstate 95 in west palm beach florida, where speed limit is 65mph, which put us and others at considerable risk of crash and injury. i subsequently read that this component defect and stalling symptoms was a ford fusion "epidemic". *tr
I was pulling away from a stop sign when my 2010 ford fusion lost all power and stalled. i was able to get to the side of the road with my hazzard lights on. the lights on the dash illiumnitated (battery, check engine light, oil pressure). i turned the car off and waited a mintue then i restarted the car and it was a little rough to start up but once it did it seemed to work fine. i have searched the internet and found that many, many people report the same problem and it seems that it is related to the throttle body part. i don't know this for sure but that is what other posts are saying. i am afraid that the dealership won't be able to repolicate the problem and therefore won't fix it. i wish that ford would acknowledge the issue with the fusion and issue a recall, this is a very serious problem when your car loses power without warning. *tr
Started driving to get home from work and suddenly the service advancetrac light came on, didn't notice anything until i did a turn. the steering felt stiff, not really paying attention to the problem got home shut off the car. the next morning heading to work turned on the car and then the service power steering now light had come on as well. after that the power steering was gone, i couldn't turn the wheels. did some research and a lot of fusions are having this problem and so far no results without spending thousands of dollars at the dealer. *tr
I was driving to work when suddenly the car lost all forward power. i was in the middle of an intersection when the engine cut out, and a couple of people had to make some pretty severe emergency maneuvers to avoid accidents due to my almost-stalled car. i couldn't get any power out of it with the gas pedal. when i coasted off into someone's driveway, the car barely stayed running. it shook and missed like it didn't have enough air. there was a yellow wrench icon on, but no check engine light. i shut down and refired, and it ran perfectly. i took it to the local dealer, and they told me that there was no stored data to analyze, and that it didn't do it to them on the test drive. they said there wasn't a problem. 2 minutes of googling shows a huge problem with the throttle bodies on these cars. we need a recall!! what if people hadn't been paying attention when my car failed in the intersection? there could have been a big crash. *tr
While turning left on a green arrow my accelerator became unresponsive, engine did not stop running but would only coast @ about 2 mph, wrench light icon and check engine light came on. the car was jerking during this slow coast to the side of the intersection. i had to put the car in park and completely shut it off.(as i was hitting my hazard lights and praying i didn't get hit by oncoming traffic as the light had changed by this time.) after a rough restart, it appeared to run fine. i took it to the mechanic and had my fuel system cleaned, but after doing research and finding many owners of the ford fusion have had this recurring problem, seemingly with their throttle body, i am very afraid to drive my car as this problem occurs with no warning beforehand and at all different speeds. i did notify ford customer service and was told that they had no customer service complaints about this problem. when i informed them of all the complaints online, they explained that they only acknowledge "official ford websites". i pray that ford will issue a recall and fix this problem before somebody dies. *tr
The first instance i was driving as normal in my vehicle and with out warning going 50 mph my car shut off with no power or ability to do anything besides to try and coast off the road and out of harm. a wrench light flashes when it occurs. the second time i was making a turn at approx 20 mph in a four way light intersection and lost power over the car again with a wrench light appearing again. the only way to gain power again is to put the car in park turn it off and wait a bit to restart the vehicle. when you restart the car the wrench light is gone and the car acts like there was never a problem and runs smoothly. after a 2 day diagnosis by ford they state that the throttle body is the cause of the problem. in total i have had this happen 5 times with out any warning going various speeds and luckly avoiding multiple accidents. like mentioned above after starting the car the wrench light disappears performing as usual. *tr
Vehicle would lose all response to the accelerator pedal. it would happen at any time without warning, but first happened after speeding up after going over a speed bump. the next day it happened 3 times. on that last day, the day of the appointment at the dealership, it happened 4 times. the vehicle would not react to the input from the accelerator pedal. you would have to pull over, assuming there was a safe place to pull over, and shut the car off in park then restart it. everything would be normal until it acted up again, anywhere from 1 mile to 5 miles later. obvious safety issue, you can't power the vehicle to get out of the way of oncoming traffic it were to happen on a turn or merging on a freeway. a wreck could very easily have happened from this failure. it ended up being a bad electronic throttle body. this was not covered under the powertrain warranty and the total cost to replace was $352.40. *tr
Driving 55 mph lost power, car shook violently, wrench light turned on, rolled off country road & turned car off. restarted & drove home 600 miles without incident. then on december 3, 2012 (2 weeks later) while driving 60 mph on busy highway at rush hour same thing happened...no power, wrench light, violent shaking. fortunately, was in a busy downtown area with multiple exit ramps. was able to "roll" off highway , turn off car & restart. needed to do this several times. got to destination ( i was shaking more than car) and same thing happened all the way home. took to dealer who eventually replaced throttle body& haven't had an incident since. i feel this should be a recall problem after reading all the identical stories & expect my $100 deductible returned as i did have the extended warranty.
2010 ford fusion on nov 8 2012 driving approximately 67 miles per hour with cruise control on and set, vehicle suddenly lost all engine power. repair light (lighted wrench) came on, cruise control went from green to amber. engine remained on but accelerator no longer worked. when accelerator depressed, engine did not respond. vehicle coasted to a stop. brakes, steering, and lights still worked. once stopped, shifted to park and depressed the accelerator and still no response from the engine. turned car off. restarted car. restart took a few extra seconds but did start. car operation returned to normal. cruise control worked. no further issues. weather was clear, no rain or wind, road was smooth. *tr
Each time (8 times) traveling at 40-67 mph and with traffic around and wrench light comes on along with check engine light; car then loses speed rapidly to only a few miles per hour. barely able to pull over before completely stopping. been in shop twice and both times, codes do not show anything nor have they seen the warning light and it happen to them after driving it for a total of 150 miles testing it. after each time it happens able to sit for 10-15 minutes and it start back up and run. very concerned for my family's safety as we have had several near miss accidents due to the car drastically dropping speed (out of our control) with each occurrence. after research on internet reading several stories of exact scenario (blaming throttle body)and ford has done nothing about it. please please please recall the parts and prevent a bad accident happening. *tr
Read in paper that you were looking at ford throttle body. i was in fast lane on i-66 on a friday afternoon. suddenly car stopped. i was lucky there was room on left apron to pull off. car restarted when i tried--went 1000 feet and stopped again; now in right lane and pulled off. knew there was an off ramp 1/4 mile ahead and limped on apron with cars passing. the entire situation was very dangerous in my estimation. when restarting, it was hard to tell if auto was running or not. when restarting auto backfired etc. prior to this incident had reported to ford dealer that transmission sometime "clunked" when i put auto in reverse in the morning. they found no problem. have not had this problem since i paid to have the throttle body replaced. *tr
Was driving in morning traffic on the highway and the car lurched and stalled. car was dead and accelerator would not work. i was able to coast to the shoulder. *tr
I had not had any issues with my car, but i left my house to drive my daughter to tumbling which was 7 miles from my house. i was about 3 miles from my home when a warning sound and the lights on my dashboard stated check power steering. i assumed that i needed power steering. i arrived at tumbling, parked for an hour. when i started the car a new message was on the dash stating service power steering now and service advance autotrac. i put the car in reverse and backed up, but when i turned the steering wheel it was locked, i could barely move the wheel. i was blocking the traffic in the parking lot and had to pull forward and park. i turned the car off and on and received the same message. therefore i was stranded in the parking lot. we took the car to a ford service dept. they told us that this is an issue that they have been having with ford fusions as well as other fords but there was no recall. i paid for them to perform a diagnostic test the results were that they would have to replace the steering panel for $1500 and the part was on back order, but first they reset the codes, and the power steering warning was gone the car test drove and drove home fine. the next morning i left to take my daughters to school and the same cycle of events happened i was afraid to turn the car off when i dropped them off at school so that i would not be stranded. i kept the car on and drove the car to the dealership where i purchased the car paid again for a test and was told the same thing. i told them to repair the car. i called ford co. and they told me that they were not aware of this issue and although i saw numerous complaints on the internet they were not true. meanwhile my car is ready and i have to come up with 1500 for an issue that ford knows they are having problems with. i am afraid my car will have problems again, this is a safety issue when it comes to steering. *tr
On a routine drive home from work, i exited the highway and noticed my rpms falling faster than what i was controlling with the brake. car was losing speed quickly with no rpms to accelerate it forward to a safe stopping point. was able to pull into a gas station right off highway, but barely as car was apparently entering limited power mode (determined via owners manual). upon placing car into car, dashboard wrench light illuminated. i then turned the car off, sat a minute, restarted car and everything was fine. within the course of the next 10 minutes, the same thing occurred 3 more times and check engine light illuminated. since the first time, this has occurred a total of 6 times while in motion with risk of causing a wreck due to lack of control to not cause car to stop abruptly in middle of road. shaking has occurred in 4 of the 6 occurrences and car just putters out until it is shut off. determination due to codes read is the throttle bottle- an electrical issue. while the limited power mode may be a safety feature, its interaction with the throttle body/idle issues poses a potential threat. the electrical issue that throttle bodies are experiencing within this make/model needs to be recalled and taken care off effectively and efficiently by ford. *tr
Vehicle consistently stalls and has trouble restarting immediatetly after fueling. problem is only immediately after fueling. once vehicle starts, problem does not happen again until after fueling. *tr
I was driving down the highway when i noticed that i could no longer accelerate. i coasted to a stop, the car shaking as it came to a stop. i placed the car in park, turned the car off, and restarted. it started up fine, and then it happened again about 10 minutes later. after a mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem, i thought it was perhaps "bad gas" and moved on. two weeks later, it happened twice, once stopping me in the middle of a busy intersection (because this time i wasn't going 60mph this time). the diagnosis from ford: a faulty throttle body sensor. the car is barely three years old, it has a significant defect (not caused by wear-and-tear or user-error), but it is not covered under their warranty. the mechanic at ford says that they see a lot of these situations. they are grossly negligent in not warning families and offering to fix their mistakes by replacing the bad throttle body components. *tr
I stopped the car to close the gas fill lid, engine running, went to get back in and all doors were locked, they locked themselves. it was over 90 degrees out, lucky i had my cell phone to call my wife to bring her keys so i could get back in. if my grandkids had been the car, it could have been a scary problem. *tr
While driving vehicle, vehicle will suddenly "stall" (engine stays running, but loses all power). can turn off engine, and restart vehicle and will run. this has occurred multiple times. previous attempts no "code" has been stored, so dealer would provide no resolution to the issue. *js
Throttle control is defective. i have read several complaints about the same issue. the throttle control goes bad and then the car will abruptly lose power and stop in traffic. we were lucky that we weren't on the interstate when this happened. in order to move you have to put the car in park and shut it off and turn it back on. i had to have mine replaced yesterday. the car is only two years old and only has 50,000 miles on it. *tr
While traveling on the expressway with the cruise control on my engine returned to idle speed and there was no response from the accelerator pedal. i had to coast to a stop on the shoulder, put the car in park, shut it off, and restart it. the next day this happened again twice, the check engine light came on, i read the code and it was p2112 throttle actuator control system stuck shut. i did some research and there are apparently some known problems with the throttle body assembly. my car is out of warranty and the dealer told me this part isn't covered under the extended emissions warranty. i was lucky that this didn't happen while i was turning or merging into traffic. *tr
Driving at 65mph in traffic on a state highway when the vehicle failed to respond to the accelerator. vehicle went to approximately 750 rpm and there was no speed control. this failure occurred without any warning as i was passing another car and required me to take evasive action to avoid collision. dealership says it was throttle body control unit and that there are "known problems". *tr
While driving down the road, my engine lost power. rpms went down, and the accelerator was not responsive. i pulled the car to the side of the road, and put it in park. the engine idled very roughly. i shut off the car, waited 5 seconds and attempted to restart. the engine did restart after some effort by the starter. i drove down the road, and the car behaved normally. this seemingly isolated incident increased in frequency in the following weeks. sometimes up to 5 times a day. i took my car to an authorized ford dealer, and the problem was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body. cost of replacement is $355. i researched the problem online and noticed that the problem seems to be fairly common among 2010 ford fusion owners. the online complaints about fusion throttle body problems were exactly the same as the symptoms i experienced. the danger lies in the fact that the car basically stalls without warning and must be restarted before normal driving can resume. i have experienced this problem at both highway and city speeds. a stalled engine in the wrong place at the wrong time (middle of an intersection, freeway, while passing, etc.) could have disastrous effects. *tr
On multiple occasions the car will just lose all throttle response, the car is still running, but will not accelerate. i have to find some place to pull over and shut the car off. then restart the engine and then it will run good. the issue happens sometimes up six times in one day, and then you can go a week without an issue. i have seen this issue with speeds as low as 20 mph all the way up to 70 mph. from what i have read online it would appear to possibly be due to a defective throttle body. apparently this throttle body uses a servo to open and close the butterfly that allows air into the intake manifold. i feel this could be a very dangerous problem especially if you are driving and it loses the ability to accelerate and you can not find a safe place to pull over to restart the car. *tr
Driving at 70 mph and car lost power. *tr
When i purchased the vehicle at 43,000 miles a check fuel fill inlet warning appeared. i main tended the inlet system and the warning and check engine light would disappear. as time went on i noticed that when i would merge onto a busy highway, my car would barely move. i have come very close to death and causing others injuries because of this. i had the throttle body checked after the recall and the mechanic said that the throttle wasn't the issue. a p0456 appeared and that means a small evaporate leak. i asked the dealership if they performed a smoke test and he said no. after paying 90$ for a diagnostic fee that wasn't performed accordingly to the tab bulletin, i became very angry and frustrated with ford. every ime i switch gears or even accelerate my car jerks so hard that i hear what is my engine or transmission loudly shifting. this past week my car won't start. it takes 15-20 seconds to turn on. after someone jumped the vehicle when i was stuck at work, my check engine light disappeared, my sync and voice featured disappeared, and now i can't even charge my phone! also, the air conditioner quit working as well. i feel as though all of the cars functions are deleting themselves from the car. i do not feel safe in this vehicle and i cannot continue to work because of it. how can i pay for an expensive repair when i can't drive to make the money? i take very good care of the vehicle and do not feel financially responsible for this poorly manufactured car. they need to recall the 2010 ford fusion before someone gets hurt or even something worse. *tr
I have a 2010 ford fusion with a four cylinder engine. while driving to work, i started speeding up from an intersection, only to experience a complete and total loss of power, the wrench light came, the engine started misfiring (rough idle at less than 550 rpm), but all systems where still working. pressing the gas pedal produced no results. i was able to pull off the side of the road, stop the engine, let the car sit for about 15 seconds, and then restarted it. when the engine restarted, the car started up and ran like nothing had happened. yesterday (june 1st), the fusion did the exact same thing, except this time i was pulling into an intersection (approximately 5 miles per hour). i had a catastrophic loss of power, the wrench light came on again, the engine was misfiring (rough idle), the rest of the systems continued working. luckily no one was coming in my direction and i was able to pull off the road into a parking lot, stop the car, and then restart it. i took it to the dealer today and they diagnosed it as needing a new throttle body. they quoted the price and labor at $400 for the repair. i've had this car less than 1 year and it only has 49,800 miles on it. if i had been pulling onto a busy street and experienced the same loss of power, it could have been a much more dangerous situation. according to my research, this is a common problem with the 2010 ford fusion, and the replacement part has been "redesigned" according to the dealer where i took my car for repair. *tr
I went for an oil change and local center. the rep requested i come over to the car and see something. the battery acid covered the entire top of battery. it metalized the cables corroded the battery pan. the car is 2 years old and 22k miles. all were replaced by ford under the warranty. i would not normally complain about a battery but this is my second ford to have the same issue. i had ford edge prior which the same thing happened but i was past 36k in miles so they considered it wear and tear. i had to replace all wire, battery pan, and battery. ford needs to review the battery manufacturer they are using in there new cars. *tr
It is the typical throttle body issue everyone else is complaining about. it would randomly stall completely out on the main road. occasionally, i could turn off the car and then turn it back on and it would drive me a few more miles before stalling out again. car would randomly accelerate while applying the brakes. car would violently "jump" like it was missing gears while accelerating. almost impossible to accelerate speed without putting my foot to the floor. i bought a new throttle body for about $400 i think in september 2012 and within a year it was already doing the same things mentioned above. i just received an extended warranty from ford in the mail and will get a refund for my previous expense on a new throttle body. it pretty much seems like a recall but without actually saying it is. i don't know if there is any further action that can be taken but if so then please do. this is a dangerous car with a short shelf life. i almost got blasted from my side twice because i would be turning off a 4 lane route with plenty of distance from oncoming traffic and the car would stall. i was basically a sitting duck sideways hoping it would roll me fast enough to get out of the way. i hope this helps. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle began to jerk, shake and decelerate abnormally. the contact shut off the vehicle and after restarting, was able to drive without a failure. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the approximate failure mileage was 28,000. updated 02/15/12*lj the vehicle was taken to the dealer on dec 28th and was returned to the consumer the next day. the dealer was unable to diagnose the problem. the second time the incident occurred. the dealer was able to pull up code from the vehicle's computer, which stated the throttle body needed to be replaced, along with a new battery. updated 02/29/12
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. the contact stated that during routine maintenance, the dealer advised that the high voltage cable for the hybrid generator and battery was worn down to bare metal. the manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure and the current mileage was 36,453.
Bought my fusion in april 2011. began having problems immediately. usually happens when the engine is cold, upon accelerating the car would lurch terribly and hesitate. first the dealer could find nothing wrong. then they decided it was the transmission. put new transmission in. kept happening. finally, it happened when the service manager drove it. said ford would put new computer in the car. six weeks later since we heard nothing back, took the car to the sales rep and he said don't come get it until we fix it. today my husband is back at the dealer to get me another car. they act like i am imagining all this. i am ready for an arbitrator!
While driving down a major highway at 69 mph with the cruise control on, the car just lost power. i first noticed the headlights went out, then saw the anti theft light illuminate. i tried depressing the gas pedal, but got nothing. thankfully, i was able to coast out of the passing lane, into the right lane, and eventually to the side of the road without any tragedy. once along the roadside, i put the car in park and turned the key to shut off mode. i then turned it back on, car started up fine. i took it to my regular mechanic, his code reader found nothing. took it to the dealership i bought it from, they found nothing. it is now at a ford dealership, but my guess is they will find nothing. i am on the road at least 4 out of 5 days a week on major highways. i cannot afford for this to happen again. i may not be so lucky next time. *tr
Pulled into parking slot of townhouse complex. before i could shift into "p" the engine raced and surged forward into a building. i was stunned. $4600 damage to my car. $7000 damage to building. i told the service manager at dean sellers-troy where i bought the car that something was wrong every time i took it in for an oil change. he said everything was ok. when this accident happened i had it towed to crest ford in centerline, mi. they insisted it was not a mechanical failure. approx. 2 months later the service manager, [xxx], called me and said they found the problem. the wiring harness to the airflow was misfiring. (dean sellers replaced one just a few months earlier). [xxx] told me to bring it in and they would replace it at no charge. in the meantime my insurance company paid over $11000. my insurance rates are sky high and i have absolutely no confidence in the safety of this car. i'm nearing 72 years old and it took me 3 weeks to write this complaint because i relive the whole ordeal all over again. i drew money out of my retirement account to pay cash for this car thinking i would never have to worry about car problems again. now i'm stuck with a car i'm afraid to drive. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I was stopped at a traffic light, it turned green and stepped on the gas pedal and the car immediately started to rough idle, the wrench indicator lit up and would not move forward. there was minimal response to throttle input. i was able to pull off the road out of traffic to a safe spot. i left the car running to see what was going on. the tachometer was fluctuating mainly downward as it idled rough. after about two minutes i turned off the motor. i made a few phone calls and while calling roadside assist decided to try and start the car. it started and i went straight to the dealership. as fate would have it, the dealership could not duplicate the concern and was not able to pinpoint the cause. they were kind enough to suggest replacing the throttle body and motor assembly. it cost me $512.38. needlessto say i am not at all happy with this issue. this issue could have occurred in a more dynamic setting, heavy traffic, lane change or merging, etc, potentially causing threat to my life and that of others. this issue needs to be addressed by the manufacturer in my opinion. *tr
While driving on interstate i-81 the dash lights started going completely off and staying off for quite sometime before coming back on. i was not really sure if i had headlights until later when stopping behind someone on my destination and was able to see my headlights in their rear car. the weather was horrible, raining very hard and visibility was really only a few feet away. i turn on my fog lights just in case i had no headlights. i had hoped they work but i did not get out in the pouring rain to check. fortunately, this incident was during the daytime and not at night. this could have lead to a fatal accident if it was at night. i feel that others should be aware of this problem and ford should take care of it with no cost to owner. also the spots on the charcoal dash should be dealt with by ford because there is some reason other than sunlight or cleaner that has cause this, for i have only clean dash with a damp cloth and the car has been garage kept except for the time it spent on the dealership lot. there are many complaints on the charcoal dash on the ford fusion online. the dealership service department was very rude when i ask about this problem and seem to care less about their customers on this behalf and accuse me of using some type of harse cleaner on it...would not even listen to what i had to say. lets hope that ford stays behind their customers with problems on the fusion since it does have some problems. *tr
while going 70 mph on the highway i experienced the same issues. my car stalled out shut off the cruise control and started shaking uncontrollable. i shut off the car and waited about five minutes and started it back up drove maybe another ten miles and it started again. on the following day i took it to the dealership where i purchased it from and they made it seem as if i had no ideal of what i was talking about. once they realized i knew that it was the throttle body assembly that was the problem i was told that this was not a part that was covered under warranty so i would have to pay for it out of pocket. i took the time to talk to several reps at ford and i was told that if the mechanic did not think it was defective then there was nothing they could do. i talked to the mechanic at the dealership and they told me that it just stopped working. so i ended up paying $479.05 for a new throttle body assembly and having to be without my car for a total of four day. only to get it back with a cracked windshield, but that is a different issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 75 mph, the advance track warning system illuminated followed by every light on the instrument panel illuminating. the speedometer and the air conditioner also failed. the contact stated that he pulled the vehicle over, disconnected the battery to reset the computer and the vehicle functioned properly after the battery was reconnected. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph with the air conditioner activated, the engine stalled and immediately the warning indicator began to illuminate. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and after waiting a few moments, the vehicle restarted. the failure occurred four times when driving at various speeds with the air conditioner activated. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
As i was passing another vehicle, the vehicle lost power and a warning light illuminated telling me to pull over immediately. luckily i was able to make it to the side of the highway. the codes pulled were p0010, p0201, p0202, p0203, p0204. the dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. the issue happened again on 5/30/11 as i was driving on the highway. the same codes as the first incident was found with an additional code of p1a03. again the dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. i feel this is a safety issue because when you are driving along on the highway the cars around you do not expect you to dramatically slow down. if you manage to safely make it to the side of the road without being in an accident or causing an accident you still face another safety issue being stuck on the side of the road with traffic going by at 65 mph.
After driving about 1.5 miles from home, my wife came to a set of lights and stepped on the brake to stop. the brake pedal went nearly to the floor and several dash lights came on including the brakes & anti-swerve. the vehicle slowed to a stop as she entered the intersection. fortunately 2 things were in her favor, there was no one ahead of her and there was no cross traffic at the light. either could have resulted in an accident. she drove the vehicle back home since she considered that the brakes had failed and she may not be able to stop the vehicle. she called me. i told her to call the dealership. she left the vehicle running thinking that perhaps as it warmed up it would work and tested it several times over an hour's time in the driveway. she pulled out the car's manual to see if there was anything listed regarding the brake failure. she read in another part of the manual about resetting the car's computer by shutting off the engine. when she restarted the vehicle, the dash lights went out and brakes returned to normal. the dealer said they "never heard of this problem" and said the earliest they could see the vehicle was 5 days later. we dropped the vehicle off the night before with a description of what was experienced. the dealer said they "could not verify the concern" and ford does not provide any guidance regarding the issue. i was able to find quite of few instances by simply doing a "google" search including a video by 'consumer reports' who experienced the exact same problem. ford assured them it was a 'software' issue and claimed that all 2010 fusion hybrid owners would be notified to have the software updated. my car was a newer model 2010 and apparently not under this notification since we did not receive anything from ford. the 'ford customer care' suggested taking the vehicle to another dealer for service who said, "there is nothing we can do."
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. while the vehicle was parked the ignition would not start. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technicians replaced the battery. the contact stated that the failure occurred a second time and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technicians were able to duplicate the failure but could not diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 10,700. updated 04/15/11*lj updated 5/2/11 *cn updated 05/13/11 updated 12/28/2011 *ln
i was driving on a 6 or 8 lane freeway when it suddenly downshifted to a much lower gear (probably 3rd) and the tachometer maxed at 7000 rpm and held there until i manually moved the shift lever to neutral. when i put it back in drive (still moving) it again raced to 7000 rpm and i put it in neutral and coasted to the side of the road. i put it in all the gears, then in drive and went back on the freeway. it stayed in 1st gear and i again went to the shoulder of the road. i shut the engine off, restarted it and got back on the freeway. it shifted ok, but after a few miles did it again. i sent my complaint to ford motor company, but they say they can't duplicate the actions and therefore can not/will not do anything about it. (see ford customer service case #0506021830 and my letter to them)
Transmission keeps on lurching forward and dealership cannot do anything about it now. it's a safety issue for me as i almost got into an accident on the street due to huge jump. transmission keeps on acting up and dealer keeps saying everything is fine and cannot duplicate the other since the time they rebuilt the transmission on my vehicle. *tr *kb
Purchased the ford fusion se 2010 on 8/4/10 drove it 100 miles and on 8/7/10 it was dead in my drive way. called road service and it was jumped and towed to dealership. there two days was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle other than the battery was no good - they replaced the battery. drove it approximately 900 miles and on 9/5/10 it was dead in the driveway again. roadservice came jumped the car and i drove it into the dealership they replaced the battery and asked me to bring the car into service after the weekend. on 9/7/10 at 8am i dropped the car at the dealership as per their request. i received a call on 9/14/10 from the service department to tell me that they can't resolve the matter and that an engineer is coming out from ford corp to look at the car. not sure what to think at this point maybe i should ask for my money back or another car? also, i have noticed the drivers headrest is really not at all comfortable but that is really the least of my troubles with my new car. *tr
Stopped at a traffic light, waiting to make left turn. upon accelerating car lurched forward like it was going to come off it's chasis and then lost all acceleration. car rolled to stop and needed towing dealership had car for 25 days. claims to have replaced a throttle module which corrected the issue. ford claimed all defective parts and indicated they had no responsibility to inform me of the defect which caused the incident. *tr
