On average, the 2009 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 102 972 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2009 Ford Fusion

The bakes got very soft/non-responsive when the brake pedal is pushed after they had been applied aggressively to avoid an accident. traveling at 45 mph on a city street at an intersection. dealer said it was a known problem and that it would be around $1,500 to get it repaired. where is the responsibility of the manufacture and government regulations (that we pay for dearly) in making the manufacture responsible for cheap built & not to specification's in the replacement of the malfunctioning abs. still driving as is hoping & crossing the fingers each time it is driven.

2009 ford fusion brake problems. the brake pedal intermittenly goes down the floor unexepectly. i had to stand on the brake pedal to stop the car. this issue has been reported to murphy ford, chester pa on 4 occasions. this car has been towed twice to murphy ford , concerning this issue. murphy ford could not duplicate this problem. after the 4th visit, and murphy ford could not duplicate the problem, i requested that the master cylinder be replace. this car is unsafe and ford should correct this problem. i am authorizing the nhtsb to review my vehicle service record from murphy ford concerning this issue.

Repairs and regular maintenance on vehicle have only been done by ford dealership mechanics. have never taken it elsewhere until now. i have a binder of every repair and issue with my vehicle. took vehicle up to dealership to get looked over for any issues, warranty was about to expire. issues were a leak of my power steering high pressure line, oil leak, and coolant leak. got fixed, headed home, had to slam on brakes on 60mph highway due to debris in the road lost from a trailer in front of me, did call police. after that brakes felt mushy. called dealership, was told must be air in line and to pump brakes. worked. brakes felt stiff again. june 2015 driver on parents dirt road, slid a little on loose gravel, abs kicked in, brakes went to the floor, went through intersection, couldn't stop. lucky it was rural road, low traffic. pumped brakes to re pressure, after finally being able to stop. brakes from then on stayed mushy. took to ford mechanics on july 16, 2015 and was told brakes were fine. could find nothing wrong. brakes still go almost to floor before braking engages. slid on gravel and through same intersection. lucky again. took to another mechanic, it's the hydrolic control unit (hcu). was told ford only had two new units left in entire country $800 part, best bet junk yard used around $100. was also told ford has discontinued the part but there is no other alternative replacememt. 100% factory defect, not usage. neighbor with 08 ford fusion sel 85,000 miles had same issue. google search says i am not alone either.

Brakes keep going mushy after abs activates, taking significantly longer to stop the vehicle. the abs activates occasionally for no reason. today traffic was stop and go, and when the car in front of me stopped and my boyfriend hit the brakes to stop, the abs went on followed by the brakes malfunctioning which caused a rear end collision. while researching this problem i found 26 reports of the same exact problem on www.aboutautomobile.com for the 2008 ford fusion alone, as well as numerous complaints on other websites regarding fusions. *tr

2009 ford fusion sel v6 i am having issues with the abs system. the brakes are soft and really only activate when pushed almost to the floor. the issue started at about 75000 miles. i have replaced the brakes, bleed and replaced brake fluid, no leaks, checked calipers and master cylinder. the problem is the abs hydraulic control system. when replacement of the fluid and brakes the problem resolved until i made a sharp turn to the right and had wheel slip. abs activated and from that point on it lost most braking ability. after much research i have found this is a common problem among many small ford manufactured vehicles. this is a very dangerous problem as it has caused countless near misses in my car. ford knows of the issue and that it disables the abs system but will not fix the problem. it does however offer to replace the part for over $1000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while driving approximately 6 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. the vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing, but a failure could not be located. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

I have experienced the same braking issue (brake pedal going to the floor) that is being investigated a couple of times when i had to brake suddenly on uneven surfaces (once was a coble stone entrance) the brake pedal went down to the floor when i slammed on the brake pedal (very similar to when there is air in the brake lines or a bad master cylinder) and both times i was barely able to stop in time (lucky for me that both instances were at low speed less than 10 mph). took the car to have the brakes checked and they replaced they replaced the master cylinder which did not correct the issue. both times the brakes eventually came back to working normally after a while.

While traveling at 65 mph in traffic, the car completely shutdown. dashboard lights appeared and the car lost all power, including power brakes and steering. fortunately, i was able to maintain control of the vehicle while exiting the roadway. due to the lack of steering and braking ability, i don't feel a person of smaller stature, i.e. my wife, would have been able to maintain control without being in an accident. *tr

Just very concerned. the brake hub s get extremely hot and the brake pads were no good i have less than 20'000 miles on my 2009 ford fusion. the car is drove very little and is garage kept.i just don't understand the concept from ford motor to make a vehicle that the brake hubs get hot and wear out the pads. i had ford vehicles for years and never has been a problem. why do you allow a problem like this to go on.. this is a safety concern too. my older ford vehicles never did have brakes that you questioned whether or not you would be able to stop at a traffic light. now i worry that it may not stop. just a few months ago it almost didn't stop at a traffic light. when i applied the brakes it continued to roll and i rolled thru four car lengths before it finally stopped. i was so frightened !! i too noticed ford is recalling some of the newer for fusions for this problem. suggest that they recall all vehicles that have the brakes like what is on the fusion ....why does someone need to loose their lives to get a problem like this fixed?? the automobile industry is failing the consumers and lacking safety standards . usa automobile industry can do better than this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving into a parking lot, the vehicle loss power and the wrench warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that the power train control module failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 16,000. updated 09/05/14*lj updated 09/15/2014 *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while driving various speeds and attempting to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal traveled to the floor, vibrated, and the abs activated. the contact stated that the brake pedal had to be pumped to come back up. the contact mentioned that the pedal would remain soft for extended periods of time during cold weather. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control valve needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Brake pedal goes to the floor pads changed still doing same thing

2009 ford fusion brake system failure. while driving 65mph and abruptly applying brakes for a second the pedal went to the floor. i tried to pump the brakes several times and then apply a lot of pressure to the pedal to get the car to brake. the pedal was on the floor and the braking distance was increase dramatically. i avoid an accident by changing lanes since my brakes had failed proper operation. i got off the next exit and in a parking lot had a hard time stopping and the pedal was spongy and on the floor. i jabbed the brakes again repeatedly and it pedal return somewhat and my braking distance had returned to normal. the pedal was still spongy and had increase travel before ingagement. after the repairs the pedal still had travel before engagement but was no longer spongy. the bottom of the pedal can be felt if pressed hard, concerning but the dealership said it was safe...

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. the contact stated that the brakes failed when applied. the contact had to pump the brakes to stop the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic however, the mechanic could not find a defect in the braking system. the contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer nor call the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 81,000.

After hitting a rough area on the road, my brake pedal went all the way to the floor. it never corrected itself. that was a few years ago and the pedal still goes to the floor every time i press the brakes. also, the dash where the air bag is, is severely bubbled.

3 issues: i saw someone else post this- my break pedal is also soft and goes all the way down to the floor after antilock breaks are engaged (like on icy or wet roads). there is no other time this occurs- as it's the breaks, i've been very mindful of it. i have also had the breaks replaces so i don't think it's actually the breaks but rather somewhere within the breaking mechanics. second, only when turning left, i get a "clunk" sound at about 1/4 of the way thru the turn. i thought the sound was coming from rear left axle area- but i honestly cannot isolate its origin. the third is my most hated: the rear of the drivers seat is breaking down- almost as though there's a framework of soldered metal inside in the core of the seat and the soldering is snapping apart. one of these days i'm going to fall back when the rear backrest completely breaks. i absolutely hate this- i have never had to buy a replacement seat before and i've owned ford/mercury products for 35 years.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph and depressing the brakes, he heard a loud grinding noise. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised him that the rear brakes and rotors failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure and current mileages were approximately 69,000. the vin was unavailable.

While driving on the expressway the rear brakes seized. when i parked the car the rear brakes were omitting a foul odor and the rear wheel rims were scalding hot to the touch. i took the vehicle in to the dealership who said the springs in the caliper stuck requiring new brake pads, the discs to be machined and a lubrication of all internal components. the dealership stated it is a maintenance issue despite being solely maintained by the dealership and there is no notice in the owners manual or service as to lubricating the internal brake components. *js

Abs activates during braking over rough surfaces causing brake pedal to feel spongy and soft afterwards. diminished brake performance after activation of abs causing increased stopping distance. bleeding of lines and abs unit seems to improve brake performance slightly, but never to 100% i am an automotive technician with over 15yrs experience, and this is my personal vehicle. this has been an ongoing problem since i purchased this vehicle in 2011.

Brought my 2009 ford fusion new in 2009. problems started a few years after i brought it. when driving my car, if i hit a pothole, driving in the rain or when the roads are wet, i have to come to a stop, my brakes seem to fail. i am literally pushing my brakes all the way down to the floor, but the car does not come to a stop. this happens for, it seems like minuets, but probably only seconds, but while happening i feel the brakes start to vibrate, then eventually comes to a stop. there have been two instances where i came within inches of hitting the car in front of me. i don't feel safe in this car and will only drive it short distances around where i live for fear of having my brakes failing. i fear that i will injure myself or some one else. or worse, there will be a fatality involving my car. during my routine maintenance, i have them look at my brakes and every service person says that my brakes are fine. i even had my front and rear brake job done in 2014. within a few months of having the job done it happened again. it has happened only once since then, but again i drive it short distances at lower speeds around my neighborhood only now. when i look this up i see that there have been many people complaining and describing that the same thing is happening to their cars. same year/model. it looks it has to do with the abs brake issue and ford is aware of it and no recall has happened as of yet!!! this is a safety issue and need attention now!

1.takata recall. 3-5 year waiting period and yet no repair. also, if driver airbag is takata, why no recall or replacement? 2. brakes will drop all the way to floor in emergency braking! why no recall or fix? this is life threatening problem.
