Problems with 2009 Ford Fusion SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2009 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 102 972 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2009 Ford Fusion

The brake pedal went soft; once when driving on a slippery surface and twice on uneven surfaces as i was braking when going over a bump. once the vehicle was turned off it seemed as if it reset and the problem went away. it happened three times. the date i entered below was the last time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while driving various speeds, the brakes failed without warning. the contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the brake pads and shoes needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the dealer diagnosed that the brake pads and shoes needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired a second time, but the failure recurred. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 81,492.

Whenever i need to brake, the pedal goes to the floor, and there is minimal resistance from the brakes. this applies to abs situations (rainy, icy weather) and dry conditions when brakes are needed suddenly (highway slowdown, animal jumping in the road). this applies to traveling at any mph, including highway and city driving. the pedal also drops to the floor when the car is in park. pumping the pedal is required to feel any resistance, but it is necessary every time the brakes are needed. time and distance needed to slow down are exponentially more than even a year ago. brake pads were replaced 3 years ago, fluids were flushed, replaced, and bled 4 months ago. auto body shops report all is well and that there is no reason my brakes should be so slow to react or the pedal should drop to the floor.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while driving approximately 40 mph, the brakes seized without warning. the contact had to pull over to the side of the road. the vehicle was driven home and taken to the dealer the following day where it was diagnosed that the anti-lock brake system failed and needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact also stated that the failure occurred three other times. the approximate failure mileage was 130,026. updated 11/01/16*lj *tr

While exiting off the interstate and passing over rough pavement, the abs engaged and the vehicle lost brake pressure. the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and braking ability was very weak. had to quickly pump the brake pedal several times to regain braking function. from then on the brake pedal was extremely soft. had brakes bled, fixed soft pedal until abs again engaged. it was the same soft pedal again. had a new master cylinder installed and lines bled, and still soft pedal. then researched problem on internet and found numerous complaints about the same brake problems. contacted 2 different local ford dealerships and they both told me this is a common problem on 2009 fusion. told me it is the abs hydraulic control unit. my conclusion is dealerships are aware of the problem, and i am sure ford motor company is aware of it also. when the abs failure happens it is dangerous. and i'm am sure it has caused accidents. this issue really needs to be resolved soon.

Whenever i brake over a slippery or bumpy surface my brakes don't work properly. my car skids for a bit and the brakes feel spongy. the slow reacting brakes continue to act that way from a few minutes to a few days after the initial brake. this has happened several (any driving circumstance, although icy seems to be a contributing factor, and any road) times and it literally feels as though i have no control over my car. (i will choose an arbitrary date since this has happened on multiple occasions). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while driving over a wet railroad crossing, the abs sensor suddenly illuminated. when depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle did not immediately stop. the brake pedal traveled to the floor and the stopping distance was extended. the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 130,000.

While turning my brake pressure dropped. when this happened i pushed the pedal down and had almost no brake pressure. this happened on two occasions in different months. no lights (abs) came on. it became very challenging to stop, and i was concerned i was unable to stop. i almost hit the car in front of me the second time. my car is currently at the ford dealership because i can not get the brake pressure back by pumping the pedal. the car is unsafe to drive. after researching on nhtsa i was surprised to find there was no safety bulletin or recall as there are about 26 other similar complaints. ford should take this very seriously as it is a massive safety issue.

Anti lock brake system failed at 80,000 miles and when they went to repair it the drivers side door mechanism failed and froze shut

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal hit the floorboard of the vehicle when it was depressed. the contact stated the interlock brake system malfunctioned. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 104,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while driving approximately 25 mph, the brakes failed without warning. the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. the failure occurred one other time. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Of a sudden, brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the car almost didn't stop. there was no warning, and the brakes had worked perfectly just minutes before entering the interstate. there are 65 complaints on file for exactly this, at carcomplaints.com - almost all show misdiagnosis by ford dealerships and repair shops.

After anti-lock brakes engaged while driving, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and lost most of the braking ability. this happened 3 times. the first 2 times it happened, the braking pressure recovered within a day and brakes went back to normal. the 3rd time it happened the brake pressure never recovered completely. i still have braking ability, but requires a long brake pedal travel to engage brakes fully. if i pump brakes, pedal pressure seems to build to a normal level, but will go back to a soft feel immediately after i stop pumping (as if the brake fluid is leaking past something internally). had dealer look at it after 1st incident, but couldn't diagnose any problems with system (brakes had gone back to normal by then). i am currently driving with the long pedal travel and soft feel of the brakes, but have learned to compensate for it. *tr

I was driving at 40 mph on the highway in rain, abs kicked in because the car started sliding, brake pedal vibrated and after it stopped the brake pedal feels loose. i have to push the pedal almost all the way to the floor for brakes to engage. i've tried pumping my brakes but it's been a week since it occurred and i've experienced no change. i took it to a ford dealership and was told the master cylinder needs to be replaced but they seemed so clueless i feel like it was just their best guess. i've researched the problem and i've found out that hundreds of people are wasting money on their cars trying to fix the same issue i'm having. i've recently received the airbag recall notification on my car and now a problem with my brakes has occurred. i don't feel safe in my car anymore and i hope ford will take notice to the hundreds of complaints about the brake system.

Takata inflators: i am having a very hard time breaking when i need to break. over the past winter, i've slid through several red lights and had to blow on my horn to alert on coming traffic to stop. i've been told by the shops that i should not even be driving my car. this is very dangerous and overwhelming. ive came out of a lot of money on breaks, pads, master cylinder repairs, etc. and would just like to be able to drive normally. i have to press all the way down to stop my car at all times. my breaks never feel normal. this has been going on for a little over a year now

After hitting a bumpy road my brakes went to the floor and stopping power just went away. checked at shop. all pads replaced. fluid changed completely twice. master cyl and hoses not leaking, now i have really weak braking system from the federally mandated system 49 cfr 571.135 - standard no. 135 that is installed in my car and cant get it repaired. do i just throw a car i bought brand new away? mileage 88000 started now at 92000. new tires and talked to ford house but no one will commit to any answers. have a student trying to drive this car in college and around town. roads are rough from drought and constantly trying to pump brakes but it makes no difference while driving. if just starting off for the day a lot of times you have good brakes until something happens and they just go away. hard to watch road, speed people and pump brakes all the time. lets go . step up and do your job........... no injuries yet close calls at traffic lights.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle would not immediately respond until the pedal was depressed approximately 1/2 way down. the braking distance was extended. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the abs module, but the failure continued. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 85,000.

During summer 2016, slammed on brakes and swerved left thus activating the abs at highway speeds to avoid an accident with another vehicle that was changing lanes without looking, at which time, my brake pedal went to the floor and brakes lost stopping power. car continued to have diminished braking with pedal traveling to floor and taking a lot of extra distance to stop. the next day it appeared to somewhat correct itself but pedal still had extended travel and spongy pedal. took to mechanic who could not diagnose but thought it might be the abs or master cylinder. continued to drive with spongy pedal. four months later, abs activated after sliding on icy road, pedal again went to floor with little stopping power. the car would not stop within normal distance even on clear surface. carefully drove it home and scheduled dealer appointment. took car to two different ford dealers because first estimate was so expensive, but both diagnosed problem as abs hydraulic control unit. replaced hcu and brakes are back to normal feel. repair paperwork available upon request.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. the contact stated that the brakes felt spongy and performed at half strength when the brake pedal was depressed. the dealer diagnosed that the brakes needed to be replaced and adjusted. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

In motion. city & highway. intermittent abs failure. brake pedal goes to floor resulting in no brakes. does not pump up while in motion. common problem with many complaints on internet. sticking dump valve in hydraulic control system. happened several times last 18 months.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. when the brake pedal was depressed, it traveled to the floorboard. the failure was persistent. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake line needed to be flushed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was approximately 107,919.

In the past year and a half, on at least 4 occasions, the brakes became very mushy following anytime the anti lock brakes have activated. the abs was activated when coming to a stop in slippery conditions and on loose gravel. afterwards the brake pedal nearly goes to the floor in order to stop the car. this usually lasts for a day before the brakes return to normal. i have inquired about this issue with a local ford dealer, but they had no experience with this situation and could not provide any remedy. a search of the internet found several people reporting the same problem with their fusion (not all 2009 model year). no one reported a fix for the problem.

Abs control module valve sticking. the 1st event happened during the winter when driving in snow and the abs system engaged. after the event the pedal would go almost all the way to the floor before the brake would engage. after re-creating an intentional brake slide causing the abs system to engage again the valve became "unstuck" and has been fine for a year. but, once again on a dirt road the abs system engaged due to braking on gravel. one of the valves is stuck again and recreating the event making the abs system re-engage has not cured the problem. this is a safety issue and with 1500 miles to drive home while on vacation is going to be a white knuckler. it's hard to think that we have to spend $1000.00 for a repair that will only last until the abs system is needed again and another valve sticks! this is a faulty part design and should be recalled and replaced with a dependable part.

Several times in the last 3 months, including today, when the abs starts, it looses breaking ability. i almost wrecked the vehicle into the gas pump this morning after starting to break off the highway, coming into the station, the right front time lost it's grip after going over a rain grate, the abs then kicked in and all the sudden mush for brakes. it is only ever corrected after you stop the car, put in park, turn off engine for several minutes and restart. brakes are worthless until the car is "reset."

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. when the contact attempted to apply the brakes while driving 60 mph or more, the brakes malfunctioned. the contact would have to allow for a significant decrease in speed due to the excessive distance needed before the vehicle was able to come to a complete stop. the failure also occurred whenever the road conditions were uneven or unstable. the contact took the vehicle to the briarwood ford dealer where it was determined that the failure was related to nhtsa action number: pe16017 (service brakes, hydraulics); however, there was no recall. the dealer replaced the rear and front brakes, but the failure recurred. the contact returned the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hcu failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated there was no recall on the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

When braking on uneven surfaces the brake goes to the floor and doesn't stop the car properly. i need to put the car into park and pump the brake pedal to get it working again. i tried to stop when approaching a main road from a side road. the main road was being resurfaced and was about 1" or 2" lower than the side road. as the front tires were dropping down the transition from the normal road to the lower road i applied the brake, the brake pedal hit the floor of the car and did not brake in a normal amount if time or space. it felt like the brake failed. i had to hit the brake numerous times to get the car to stop. the wheels were not turned when the brake failure happened. the brake continued to not work properly until i pumped it up again. the brake failure happened numerous other times when trying to brake when going over potholes and other uneven surfaces. the wheels are always straight when the brake failures occur. the brakes seem to fail each time the front wheels are going down a break in the road. the brakes continue to not work correctly on all surfaces until i pump them up again. my mechanic does not know the cause of this problem. the problem has always happened on clear, dry roads.

After coming to a hard stop on interstate due to a crash ahead brake pedal went soft and braking was diminished. i took the vehicle to a nearby ford dealer and they bled the brakes and engaged the anti-lock system in a gravel lot to 'reset' the system. i treated this as a on off anomaly until i saw in the news that others have also experienced this.

I was parking my 09 fusion at my son's preschool, and was almost stopped in the spot, when my car violently and unexpectedly accelerated forward up over a 4 inch curb. i pressed on the brake as hard as i could, but it was the tree that i hit that stopped me. there was no damage to the car, but i had both my children (4 years old and 11 months old) in their car seats with me at the time. this is the second time it has happened while parking. both times i was going less that 10 mph and was almost at a complete stop when the car unexpectedly lurched forward. will not put my children back in this vehicle until this problem is fixed; is not drive-able.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was a failure in which the abs randomly engaged when the brakes had not been applied. each time the failure occurred, the contact had to pump the brake pedal because it traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and recommended that the vehicle be diagnosed by a dealer. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: pe16017 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000. updated 06/21/17*lj *cn

The brakes will randomly get spongy and go to the floor when applied in an emergency situation. also the brakes will feel spongy and go to the floor when applied and the vehicle is traveling over bumps in the road. neither my husband or myself have not had an accident in this vehicle but have had to exit the roadway to avoid rear ending other vehicles. also the vehicle has traveled into intersections prior to stopping when attempting to stop while traveling over bumps. this is extremely dangerous and scary and as a result we can't allow our children to drive this vehicle. we previously had a 2007 ford fusion in which my daughter rear ended another car in traffic when she applied the brakes and that ford fusion was totaled. when the brakes are not having the above problems, it is a great car to drive. these brake issues make me a very uncomfortable driver as we have a lot of bumpy roads in my city. it also makes traveling very difficult as i don't know what type of road surfaces i may encounter. the vehicle has been to the shop about these issues but they never find a problem. *tr

The first time this happened was 3-4 years ago. my wife was braking at a stop light and hit a small pothole in which the break petal went all the way to the floor and she was able to come to a full stop even though it took a lot longer to do so. she pulled over and i had to pick her up and took the car into a local break repair chain. by the time they were able to check it out the breaks were working fine again. when we described the issue they could not find any reports of this on the internet. i believe this was the first time the break fluid was changed since the locations indicated wet or dirty break fluid can cause these symptoms. this happened a few more times to my wife and she decided she would no longer drive the car. i then started driving and again in a similar scenario in which i was breaking and ran over a manhole cover the breaks went to the floor and was difficult to stop the car. i again took it to another break specialist franchise and they could not find an issue with the car or on the internet although the breaks pedal has become soft and has remained that way. break fluid was changed again for being dirty. my breaks have continued to be soft and will replicate the issue when braking and hitting a bump but appears to be only when the bump hits the front right wheel. i need to get my break pads replaced now and decided to research this issue again and i am finding that this is a very common problem. why hasn't ford recalled this product or doing anything to make it right with their customers.

Soft brake peddle after hitting bump in highway. peddle to floor and had to pump hard to get the car to stop. finally stopped in the intersection. has occurred on 4 occasions over a 2 year period. braking finally improves after a short period of time. was in a 45 mph speed zone near home on 3 of the occurrences.

Several times over the past year, i have had an issue with losing brake pressure after my abs brakes were activated. the first time it happened was on a country road. i hit the brakes pretty hard to avoid hitting a deer. after the abs activated, the brake pedal went to the floor before brakes would work. i called a friend of mine that is a ford certified technician. he had me pump the brakes several times and the pedal came back up. another time i was approaching a red light doing about 10 mph when one tire hit a dip in the road and the other tire did not. the abs activated and i had the same problem with the brake pedal. after a few days, the brake pedal freed up and was back to normal. another time, i was pulling off the side of the road and as the first tie went offroad, the abs activated. again the brake pedal went to the floor and was soft. pumping the brakes no longer worked and braking distance was longer. i took the car to a mechanic several times. had brakes, rotors and pistons replaced but it still continues to happen everytime the abs brakes activate. it happened a few more times during winter driving conditions. the pedal frees up on its own after a few days but i have to drive much slower and start braking earlier. i googled the problem to see if there were other people having the same issue and found it that there have bee. several complaints. i found some information claiming that a pin in the hydraulic control unit is to blame but im not sure. as stated, i had the car to a mechanic several times and they cant seem to pinpoint a problem. *tr

I was driving along about 25 mph and had to stop at a turn on a metal plate and the abs pulsed because the plate was slippery. after the abs pulsed the brake pedal went soft and had to be pushed to the floor to stop the car, with no brakes until the pedal got to the floor. it remained this way for several blocks then returned to normal after pumping the brake and turning the car off and on. bonnell ford dealer ran diagnostics and it pulled no codes so they told me there was nothing wrong. 4 months later i was driving on a snowy rode about 25 mph and swerved while braking to avoid a downed tree. abs pulsed and again the pedal went to the floor, and the brake remained soft after the abs event. again no brake pedal feel and the brake has to be pushed to the floor to engage at all. it remained this way after pumping and restarting the car. immediately brought it to the ford dealer with the brake still soft, and told them to replace the hcu. they ran the same diagnostics but did not address or acknowledge the soft brake pedal and diminished braking, advised against replacing the hcu, returned it to me saying there was no problem because it was not pulling codes. bonnell ford and ford motor company customer service has told me to keep driving it with the faulty brakes and keep taking it back to the dealer. customer service told me to take it to more ford dealers to get more opinions, even though i told them it was not safe to drive because of the diminished braking.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. the contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard several times without warning. the brake calipers and brake pads were replaced more than twice, but the failure continued. the contact was uncertain if the hcu failed. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

In three separate incidents now, spanning approximately march 2015-january 2016, the brake pedal in this vehicle has gone soft down to the floor with minimal braking power directly after the abs engaged. the first occurred on wet roads at approximately 45mph, the second in normal conditions on the highway stopping for sudden traffic, and the third on snowy roads at approximately 25mph. for two of these times it was necessary to swerve off the road to avoid collision as the car came to a stop very slowly. the brakes would only return to seemingly normal if i was able to pull the car over, put it in park, and pump the brakes. mechanic has not been able to find anything wrong thus far. from doing a bit of research, this appears to not be an uncommon issue, and most suggest that it is an issue with the hydraulic control unit when the abs engages. if this is the case, i do not want to replace it with another potentially faulty unit with the high expense but it is unnerving to drive a car with such safety issues in the braking system.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while driving the vehicle at various speeds and applying the brake pedal, the brakes felt spongy or soft. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

What i will be describing has happened on more than one occasion: when stopping my vehicle on an uneven surface, my brakes make a whirrring noise and i lose my brakes. fortunately i have not had to avoid another vehicle or stationary item. once i ran a stop sign, but it was at a four-way and no other vehicles were present. after this happens my brakes get "squishy". i feel like i have lost 1/2 of my brakes function. i am very careful when stopping and tend to slow much sooner than needed. after a long time it seems like my brakes are "back", but when i have to stop and use the abs we cycle through the same problem. i have taken my vehicle to the local ford dealer (where i have my car regularly serviced) and i was told that after inspection my brakes look fine. if i want further diagnostics i would have to pay approximately $100 just to "see". a local mechanic told me that unless my abs warning light was on he could not even run the diagnostics. my abs light has never came on.

Only after abs brakes are engaged the brake pedal goes to the floor. please look into this asap due to the safety factor. after a day or the car is turned off the pedal returns to normal.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while operating the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, the abs sensor activated. moments later, the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. the vehicle did not immediately stop and the stopping distance was increased. the dealer changed the rear rotors and brake pads, and brake fluid; however, the same failure recurred several months later. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the front brake pads and rotors were replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 103,914.

I was driving and about 15 miles an hour it is raining i was coming up to the slow curve 1 hill my abs light turned on my brakes are locked up made me slide into a curb now my abs light is on and i don't feel comfortable driving my car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. the contact stated that the abs failed and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. the vehicle was taken to baxter ford south (9203 s 145th st, omaha, ne 63138) where it was diagnosed that the abs module needed to be replaced. the contact stated that this was the second time the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the same failure. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was currently at the dealer being repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

Abs fails to reset after they activat from a slick road conditions

I experienced reduced and uneven braking action after the activation of the abs system during a hard stop on a city street at approximately 30 mph while turning right. the vehicle was taken to a shop, and they could not find any mechanical problems. a web search indicated similar issues specific to ford fusion and similar ford vehicles of this vintage related to a failure in the abs hydraulic control unit. i contacted a ford dealership, and they confirmed that this is a known problem and said it is a common failure mode for my scenario. before i was able to get the car to the shop, i had several times that i needed to make harder than usual stops. braking required pumping of the pedal to get needed braking action. the braking action was uneven causing the car to swerve, and it appears the abs system no longer would activate. no indicator lights illuminated to signify mechanical failure. i consider the car not safe to drive in current state. repairs are pending.

Have lost breaking when making turn and applying brakes on rough roads (in winter) the brake pedal went to the floor in order to stop and after quite some time the brakes would return to "normal" and then tis problem would reoccur, to date this has happened several times over a two and a half period, when taken into mechanic he could find no problem, he has suggested to replace the master cylinder, how ever i have never had a master cylinder fail and then fix itself and then fail over again and again, i believe it is the abs control valve and i feel that this is not a normal wear issue, and that ford should do a total recall to repair this "safety" issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford fusion. while driving at any speed, the vehicle drove over a bump. the contact depressed the brake pedal and it traveled to the floorboard before the vehicle stopped. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the failure was duplicated; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. the failure recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Driving in city traffic, i was turning left and hit a rough patch of road. the car in front of me stopped because of road construction, when my fusion hit the rough patch due to the construction and i applied my brakes, the pedal was very soft, going down to the floor board causing a car accident. called ford corporate office and gave v i n info, no recall has been issued as of today's date. happen again existing freeway, had to pump the brake pedal several times to get the car to stop. both times occurred in 2015, hasn't happen since. read on the internet about hydraulic control valve, describes exact circumstance that happen to me. hope to god they recall this part.

After stopping on slippery pavement, or sometimes just hitting a pot hole or bump the brakes fail. the next time you press the brake pedal it goes to the floor and has to be pumped up, just to regain any stopping power. the brakes stay in this state feeling soft and going to the floor until you make a very hard stop forcing the abs to engage, sometimes it takes several attempts before the brakes return to normal. we have three ford fusions in the family, one 2008 and two 2009 models, and all three of them have had this issue at least once. i have also spoken to other fusion owners and every one of them has had this brake issue.

Brake pedal went soft after abs was engaged. now they go soft and almost doesn't stop and takes twice the distance to stop especially after the abs engages because of braking on wet surface or bumpy/rough surface. this is scary and i would like to get this fixed but if there is a recall i would like to wait until the recall is initiated. started happening a few years ago but i've just managed with it since.

I have a pending case with ford . the number is cas-7605243-r8k8v5. brake problem is intermittent. on several occasions the brakes have gone spongy and require a lot of pressure to stop the vehicle. the brake pedal has to be pressed all the way to the floor and even then the car "slips" several feet before it stops. on two separate occasions i've almost hit a pedestrian who has stepped out into the street at a cross walk. i've taken the car to a dealership and they have replaced the master cylinder and booster. second time was told the brakes were "normal" even though the service manager was able to replicate the issue. ford fixed this issue for hybrids and i've asked multiple time for them to look into this for the conventional fusions. see this site for break fix for hybrid: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2010/02/ford-issues-prompt-fix-for-fusion-hybrid-brakes/index.htm i've written to ford under this case number with the ford hybrid link and this link http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/fusion/2008/brakes/service_brakes.shtml documenting that this issue is widespread. response from ford customer care manager is as follows: "my role as the regional customer service manager is to work with you and your dealership to ensure they're honoring the warranty on your vehicle. if you have questions about potential repairs on the vehicle, those would have to be addressed with a service advisor at the dealership. if you decide to bring the vehicle back into the dealership, please let me know so i can follow-up with them and see if there's any additional assistance i can provide at that time." i asked for this issue to be escalated and i provided all of this information and documentation the manager's superior. he confirmed he received my email and has done nothing! this issue needs to be investigated/ addressed before a serious accident occurs.
