Bought this car used 2 years ago. car started making a loud noise, but when put in drive, it quiets a little. not running well at all. took it to get it looked at, 1st replaced a bad water pump (almost 700) and then was told it's the transmission. they want $6k for, which i don't have. i still owe $6k on the car. so, i am basically stuck w a car that doesn't work and i can't sell or trade in, nor can i afford to at this point. *tr

The freestyle cut out on the interstate. luckily it was in the breakdown lane and no cars were coming. an 8 year old was in the car as well. after spending $1200 on repairs the freestyle still leaks, and is having the same problems with cutting out, leaking into the car and all the lights coming on. we have spent over $1200 to fix, and the car still has the same problems. the dealership wants us to spend another $1000, and they can not guarantee that will fix the problem, as another freestyle here in boone has had the same issues. *tr
Air conditioning does not work when driving under 35 mph or especially when at an idle. air is not cool at all. then when i speed up, i have air again although occasionally car will start to die and dash lights up and then it surges and is fine again when going down the highway at higher speeds. this is mostly when it is hot outside. when cool or raining, the problem is better. *tr
My car accelerates sometimes while my foot is on the brake pedal. it feels like it is jumping forward or something. also when i turn on my air condition my car, if in motion, will start to jump forward even though you have your foot on the brake. it even cut off on me several times with the air conditioning on. i now just drive without air at all because i am scared that my car will just stop on me. also my air only works on the highest level. *tr
When at a stop, our car lunges when you press on the gas pedal, forward or reverse. there is a hesitation after pushing on the pedal than it leaps forward or reverse. i was told from a dealer that it needed the throttle body cleaned and was told the same from a transmission shop. the transmission shop informed me of some problems ford was having with this transmission. i looked it up on line and seen many complaints. i cleaned it and it seemed to fix the problem. a couple of months ago, it started the lunging again. this morning, the car shuttered and stopped and several lights on the dash lit up, wrench, motor. the car wouldn't move, it wouldn't even rev up. it stranded my wife on the side of the road. i came to meet her and had it towed to our house. i cleaned the throttle body again. when i got in to try it, all the lights were no longer there but it still lunges. very afraid to let my wife drive it again with the possibility of being stranded.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while at a stop with the brakes applied, the contact noticed that the vehicle had suddenly surged forward without warning. the following day, the contact was at a stop and shifted the vehicle into reverse and noticed that the vehicle had suddenly stalled without warning. the failure had not been diagnosed and had not been repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileages were 134,000.
I purchased a used ford freestyle 2007 model in april and after having the car that i love and felt safe with my children in, it began to act crazy!! it lunges when pulling in to park or backing out of a parking spot. it scares me now to put my kids in it!!! today after it lunged a couple different times the check engine light came on. while attempting to park at the store i almost hit a parked car and couldn't control the freestyle!! it seems to be worse if the air is on. after one of the lunging fits today a wrench light came on and then there was no power at all. i pulled over turned it off and restarted it the light went out and power came back! something really needs to be done!!! *js
Throttle body system problem. car lunging at low speeds and when the driver is not pressing the acceleration pedal; sudden and unexpected. more apparent when the vehicle's air conditioning system is on or when the steering wheel is turned sharply. past loyal ford customer. this was a brand new purchase. problem started again after the hydraulic control unit was replaced in 2008. i have had all i can take; visited dealership today (3-02-212)! please ford correct this for the sake of your customers. *tr
Car surges when changing gears. problem worse with fan controls on. rpm's stay above normal idle (750-800) most of the time. car will accelerate without using gas peddle at times. must keep a constant vigilance with foot on brake. went through all the basic fixes (mainly cleaning of throttle linkage and module) . was told the throttle body needs replaced ($1000+). this module is mounted on top of the engine-why? this is not a unique problem with this car. many, many, many people with ford freestyles have had this same problem. other people have had this module replaced and that either did not fix the problem or it was a temporary fix. i believe it is a ford engineering design flaw. did not fix the vehicle. bought another car and got rid of this safety hazard. *js
