Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2006 Ford Freestyle

In 2010, my 2006 ford freestyle gears felt like it was starting to slip and a 'wrench' light came on. i was unable to maintain speed and had to pull off the road. after a few moments, i started down the road at a low gear until i was able to pull in to a gas station. after the car was cut off for 15 minutes or so, it started up fine and the 'wrench' light cut off. i would drive for 4 or months before it did it again but anytime the speed control was set, it will start again. i would cut the car off and the light would be gone. thought it was a sensor. however, this past week, the car has started lurching forward while my brakes are applied. it will do it forward or while backing up and the 'wrench' light will cut on and the car will stall out. i must keep my foot on the brake when backing up or going forward from a stop position because the car could accelerate at any time. recently, the engine light came on when the wrench light came on. after 1 and half days the engine light has gone off but the car is still jumping. as of yet, no repair work has been done. before taking to the dealership, i decided to checked for any recalls and saw that there was an open case on this model with many complaints for the same thing.

The car surges, jumps, sometimes acclerates and i put on the brakes and it will sometimes die. mainly happens when i am in reverse/forward or the air conditioning is running. also, does this when i am idling in a parking lot or at a traffic light. i have taken it to auto repair shops and they think it is the computer. couldn't afford to do a new computer so thought i would hold out, since it doesn't do it all the time. now it is starting to get worse. i turn the air off when starting out. my wrench light comes on and i don't have much power and my rpms get up to 4 when driving 50mph. turn the car off and it is like it never happened. the car is dangerous to drive with my kids not knowing when it will happen in busy traffic,,will it die and someone hit me? this isn't normal and i have found out my car isn't the only one doing this same thing. will it really take someone getting very hurt for something to be done? what justice is that and knowing that this problems exist. first time buying a ford and will probably be the last time. i don't trust them. you have a problem you fix it. that is integrity & trust. love for someone from ford to come with me for a day and ride in bumper to bumper traffic and see how our day goes. *tr

Starting in may, my car would rev up and accelerate real fast when i put it into reverse. since then, the car not only accelerates in reverse, but now does the same in drive and even in park now. i have to slam my foot on the break to keep from causing accidents all the time now. i'm constantly getting a yellow wrench on my dash after it happens, but then it just goes away like nothing ever happened. i was driving down the highway last week, and the car just shut down, it took me a mile and a half to get up to 60 miles an hour, my car chooses when to accelerate and when to slow down on it's own, and it's going to end up killin my family. if i didn't owe so much, i'd trade it in a heartbeat. *tr

My 2006 ford freestyle occasionally experiences engine rev and sudden acceleration when operated at low speeds, usually when the ac is in use. occurs only after idling or operating at low speeds in excess of 3 minutes. each time i had sufficient clearance to avoid an accident, but it's been close. it has happened a total of 5 times in the past 6-8 weeks, pretty much since it had gotten warm enough to use the ac. never happened in the past 3+ years of ownership until this year. most recent occurrence was yesterday, 30 may 2010. *tr

No crashes, but very concerned that the car lunges forward often. it also has experienced power failure on 4 occasions in the 4 years i have had it. for example, often when i am in a parking lot and put the vehicle into either drive or reverse it lunges. i always keep my foot very firmly on the brake and it groans sometimes under the strain. when i pull into my garage slowly, with foot on brake i go to put into park and it will try to lurch forward when coming to a stop. it is like it does not want to stop. i am very careful and have not hit anything but am worried as this seems to be happening more regularly. i took it into the dealer in august of 2009 and they said they could not find the problem or duplicate it. i took it in again today june 3, and they could not find in their records where i had it in last year. i showed them my receipt as proof. i have been told it is a throttle body problem, but they will not just clean it, they say it needs to be replaced at a cost of $700 to me and is not covered under my warranty. (said it is injection system, not my powertrain). i have only 44,000 miles on this vehicle, and it was doing this at 34000 last year (actually even before that it did it, but that is the first time i took it in for this problem). the problem happens more commonly as time goes by. i am listing as the 'incidence date' the most recent one, but its happened for two years now. last week it stalled out at a drive through window. *tr

The car will lunge forward when slowing to a stop or when pulling out after idling. running the a/c makes the problem worse and the car tries to shut down.the inside and outside lights start to flicker and the air bag and wrench lights come on. while in park the rpms will race to 3 rpms without touching the accelerator. we have replaced the throttle body and the smart junction box but the car just keeps gettin worse. the car was under warranty when this started to happen but they couldn't figure out what was wrong so they told me to drive it this way until it died then tow it to them and they would go back to the same ticket since the warranty was almost out. that dealership has since closed so now i'm stuck with the bill. if we only knew what the problem actually was. *tr

I first noticed our 2006 ford freestyle started lunging forward when i would be in line at the drive up window at a restaurant or the bank, numerous times, almost hitting the car in front of me. also, when slowing down to enter the garage or a parking space and when backing out of the garage. it seemed to be worse when the air conditioning was on. i finally took it to the ford dealership who charged $125.00 for the diagnostic to tell me it was the throttle body. their estimate was almost $800. i had my own mechanic fix it for around $600 and have had no problems since. i am hoping you can do something about this as i was very concerned about it lunging forward and hitting someone. *kb

Sudden acceleration when putting car into drive or reverse. seems to happen most often when running the ac. parking and pulling out of parking spaces is very dangerous as acceleration happens at slow speeds when usually in close proximity to other cars and people. 2006 ford freestyle with 60,000 miles. *tr

My 2006 ford freestyle has 74575 miles and has recently started this same surge that everyone else is complaining about..once it starts to surge forward...even with foot on the brake... it will often not pick up speed just limps along ..the limited power that everyone is complaining about. this only seems to happen with the a/c on and only if it is hot. esp if sitting in traffic or idling. if foot is not firm on the brake it will jump ahead and sometimes the engine dies. once it does that the wrench lights up on the dash and then there is very limited power..pressing the gas doesn't speed up the motor..it goes, just not fast. turn it off for 5 minutes and it starts up and runs fine (??) the check engine light came on last week for 2 days and i took it to advance auto and they gave me these codes :p2106 (limited forced power) & p061b (torque converter control module) guy there said it was probably transmission and would need to be rebuilt..it has the cvt transmission but the gas mileage has never been over 22 and usually is about 20. i read lots of folks get 26+ it shifts smoothly and i am driving it daily..but am fearful of running into someone.. if so many of us are having this issue why will ford not do something about it??? *tr

The problems started when i was backing out of a parking space. the car surges whether it is in drive or reverse...will continue to accelerate even when brake is applied. i have had to shut the car off completely to get it to stop. other times it will surge, then stall completely. in addition to this happening after restarting, the car won't accelerate normally. this happened while trying to get through an intersection. not safe. *tr

I have a 2006 ford freestyle it has a problem in surging and lurching most in reverse you have to hit the brake to stop and then it stalls and a warning light with a symbol of a wrench comes on my wife took it in and was told it was the battery??? which we had put in... but it still did this is a real issue.. this has been happening for about 10 months now. i cleaned the throttle body butterfly the other day so not sure if that will help. *tr

Throttle body seem to make the vehicle lunge forward while setting in traffic. almost struck vehicles in front of me on many occasions. i'm forced to put vehicle in park or neutral while stopped. *kb

Transmission while driving suddenly quits and almost make me lost control at 70 mph. i have read that ford had many parts that were bad and still put it in transmissions while manufacturing to keep up with deadlines. *tr

The car ahead of me had run off the freeway due to snow. i stopped to see if he was ok. once i started up, i pushed down hard on the gas pedal to accelerate and be up to speed for the traffic coming up behind me. the pedal stuck to the floor and the car kept accelerating. once it reached 75mph, i held down firmly on the brake and was able to stop the vehicle. i turned off the engine and then restarted. as soon as i put it in drive, the car took off again accelerating on its own. i quickly hit my foot to the gas pedal and was able to knock it loose and the car slowed down. the dealer said it was a faulty gas pedal and i had it replaced (at my cost). the problem still continues to this day. the dealer continues to tell me that there is no problem and there have been no complaints about the vehicle. after that first incident, there was one time that i had started the car in my garage and drove down the street. once i turned the corner, the car accelerated on its own, lunging forward but i was able to stop it. at that time, i was told it was a transmission problem and the dealer did the repairs under warranty. even after that work, i still have a problem with the gas pedal sticking. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while traveling at a speed of 70mph the contact noticed that her vehicle suddenly made an unknown noise and had begun to coast in neutral, causing the contact to pull to the side of the road. the contact shut off the vehicle.and after restarting the vehicle she noticed that the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle was towed to her residence. the contact called the dealership and was informed over the phone that the cvt in the transmission may have caused the failure. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or serviced at the time of the complaint. the current and failure mileages were 63000.

My 2006 ford freestyle lunges/surges when going from park to drive or park to reverse. vehicle has been doing this for at least 1 year .it is very scarey and unsafe for my teenage driver who is just learning to drive. i have also replaced the brakes pads and rotors twice already. the brakes wear out very quickly around 15,000 miles. last i replaced the transmission at 100,000. i bought a used 2007 transmission to save some money. now i am being told that my transmission is bad again. it is once again slipping and i have only driven 15,000 since the transmission was replaced with one od only 56,000 miles. *tr

Transmission shut down as i was driving along highway. *tr

Throttle body failed twice. had repaired because vehicle lunged and almost hit a lady at kroger grocery store. foot was firm on brake. very dangerous in my opinion . i'm a ford motor company employee and i've heard this problem from friends at work .also engine races sometimes. *tr

I purchased my 2006 ford freestyle in june of 2007. initially i fell in love with the comfort, size, and gas mileage of my new car. around 2 1/2 yrs later i started noticing when moving from park to reverse my car would sometimes stall or lunge backwards. it was only occasionally and at the time i was told i probably didn't have it in gear all the way before reversing. i had to switch from park to reverse very slowly and always be ready to hit the brake in case it decided to lunge on its own. this problem has almost completely gone away except now i have problems accelerating. almost always on the highway now my car will loose power and the wrench light will come on. once i pull over and restart it , it seems to temporarily solve the problem. this is however beyond dangerous. several times this has happened in places on busy highways where there is no shoulder. i have to travel in the slow lane now 100% of the time and i try to avoid major interstate at all costs. i have invested a great deal of money into several different things that have turned out to not be the problem. i feel like this car should have been recalled by now, before it ends up killing someone. i bought this car because it seemed like a great family car but now i am scared to death to even let children ride with me. i am also very upset that after paying down over a 20k loan to 5k that i will have to buy another car. i planned on having this car for years and years. i attempted in 2009 and in 2011 to trade the car in for a new car and the $ value of trade in is very low. the dealerships are well aware of the problems and offer a very small amount for a 7 passenger 2006 with only 85k miles on and it gets great gas mileage compared to most suvs or vans that seat 7. *tr

My 2006 ford freestyle lurches forward at 0 to 5 mph. the lurching occurs even if i do not press the pedal. it is dangerous at intersections and when trying to park. a mechanic replaced the egr valve and it is still lurching forward..from what i have found on the internet it seems that many others are having the same problem with this vehicle. *tr

Vehicle would surge while parked in reverse or forward. with the foot on the brake vehicle would actually lurch in movement several feet. one time almost hitting a pedestrian. the transmission failed due to a failed inlet shaft bearing which was caused by incorrect machining of the inlet shaft. *tr

2006 ford freestyle we change the accelerator body it lurched forward and it was dangerous almost hit a few cars in traffic we were terrified of it would not ride the kids in it and the transmission started making a weird ssssssssssss noise few months ago and now its more of a rrrrrrrrrrr loud sound everybody turns to look when we drive by were gonna take it to the ford dealer today we will probably pay up the was because you wont do anything about this problem you know exists as always with everything the corporations comefirst they have the money you should be ashamed this is afamily vehicle it has a third row seat kids ride in it still you do nothing .and as your first questions indicate no deaths no crashes not your problem right.national safety what was that again ya right ,should be national lets take care of the car manufacturer with deep pockets bearue. this is a defect and you know it the accelerator body and the cvt trans. thousands of people have the same problem yet you do nothing guess we will have to do a class action we have to do it ourselves as always. *tr

I own a 2006 ford freestyle and it surges forward from idle without any warning. ford is aware of the problem and has issued two tsbs (tsb 05-25-12 and 06-21-1) but do not consider this a safety recall. the problem is related to the throttle body part which ford does not have in stock. i am not sure why this was not considered a safety recall by ford as it is quite dangerous. *tr

Issues with throttle body , the wrench light has come on multiple times while driving at low speeds(under 45mph) the can will randomly lurch at low speeds , having the air conditioner on seems to make the problem worse . the way the car jolts and jumps is unpredictable and makes the vehicle unsafe . this problem has been happening since we purchased the car , and after years and many trips to the ford dealer the problem will stop for only a few days or few months and then the same problem starts all over again. also other owners of ford freestyles made either in2005 or 2006 have also experiences the same exact problems i have experienced. i strongly feel this car should be recalled due to the safety issues. *tr

I drive a 2006 ford freestyle and has been in the shop for 38 days not. their has been many complaints on this car due to the fact it is stalling in mid drive. i almost got rear ended. i was very scared for me and more so my children. it has also jerked forward, and when put in reverse it jerks to way you could lose control of the car. *tr

I own a 2006 ford freestyle with approx. 69000 miles. the vehicle has started to surge in reverse or drive when my foot is on the brake. i have taken my car in for service and was told that the problem is with the throttle body. i was also told that the part is not available and may not be in until late september. this vehicle is my only means of transportation and i fear having an accident do to the sudden surging. i have also found many complaints on-line about this vehicle with the very same problem. *tr

The engine of my 2006 ford freestyle suddenly revs up to 1500 to 2000 rpm from idle, with my foot on the brake firmly. this happens any time, but more often with the ac on. i had to shift to neutral to prevent hitting someone or something. *tr

I was driving on the pennsylvania tpke and suddenly lost speed. went from 70mph to 35mph. my wife and i nearly hit the windshield. the wrench light came on. stopped on the side immediately and turned off the engine. when i started it again, wrench light was gone and the car drove fine. took it to ford dealer who first could not replicate the problem. every now and then i would have the same problem occur, but after taking it to the dealer, they could not replicate the problem and could not find it on the computer. one day that happened, i drove for a good 20 min at 30mph to get to the dealer with the wrench light on so they can diagnose it and not make me look like i am crazy. they finally got the code and said i need a new transmission that costs $6,000. wrench light came on for a while after that whenever i accelerated a little, and i would loose power again. now whenever i start the car, the wrench light is on and it is difficult and almost impossible to accelerate. i have to drive it for about 10 minutes with the light on before i turn off the engine so i can have it go away when i start the car again. the situation is getting worse, and ford dealer person i spoke to says they know of the problem. i have read so many complaints online about the exact same issue. i was told to file a complaint and you might help with a recall for this problem. *tr

2005 ford freestyle car attempted to accelerate while changing from reverse to drive in parking lot got car to go after driving a few blocks car failed to accelerate from a red light . an investigation will reveal this to be a recurring problem with this vehicle with no corrective action from ford. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while the vehicle was idling, the vehicle suddenly lunged forward although her foot was on the brake pedal. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where an unknown part was replaced. the failure continued. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer because the vehicle would not drive in the reverse gear. the dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the contact called the manufacturer who offered to cover half the repair costs. the failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

I have a 2006 freestyle. 2 years ago i had to have the throttle body replaced due to unintended acceleration that got to be dangerous. this fixed the problem, but now i am again having the exact same issues, especially when the air is on. i now have a teen driving and i am very concerned for her welfare. i already paid 800+ to repair something ford should have repaired at their cost. now i have the same issue. does someone have to get hurt before ford recalls this part? *kb

When going from park to reverse or reverse to drive the car lunges. very unsafe. it happens more when it's hot. has happened multiple times. *tr

The throttle body issue with ford freestyle has affected us twice with the same car. the initial time is mentioned above, and the part was replaced under warranty by ford. the issue has resurfaced and it makes the car very dangerous if you are not mashing the brake down at idle because the car will lunge or lurch uncontrollably. it accelerates rapidly at idle without control. the lurching occurs especially bad when the air conditioner is running. *tr

2006 ford freestyle loss of the ability to accelerate on highway during traffic. have to pull over and restart to reset. happens randomly every time i drive the car. ford says it is a throttle body unit failure, but can do nothing since the part is back ordered for 6 months and has been for over a year. two tsb's over the course of two years, but no recall on a part they cannot even keep in stock for over two years due to the constant failure. now my wife and family are in danger every time they drive the car until the part is available which is always changing and never a firm date. *tr

We have had or freestyle since 7-6-2006 and not an issue until the throttle started acting up on a road trip this year. the car has ~46k miles and has been maintained every 5k miles with synthetic blend oil. the trouble started when we drove to utah from seattle and hit the heat. it was not bad at first but continued to get worse if the car sat while running. for is well aware of the issue and has issued two tsb's for dealers the number are tsb 05-25-12 and 06-21-1 (www.justford.com). this failure cause the car to surge forward or reverse without touching the gas pedal. ford is aware of the issue and recommends not driving the car due to the risk of injury but contends it's not a "defect" that they are required to cover. guess they are waiting until enough people complain or someone is killed to own up to the issue. *tr

Out of the blue, my car was jumping forward (or backward if in reverse) without me pushing on the gas pedal. in one instance, when stopped at a red light, the car jumped partway into the intersection which was very frightening! also had an incident stopped at a red light where car jumped forward nearly hitting the car in front of me. also experienced some loss of power, inability to accelerate, while driving. the wrench light came on the dashboard. took into the ford dealership. they replaced the electronic throttle body. part was very hard to find, and we had to pay for a rental car for a week. initially told the part was on back order and may take a couple months! *tr

I have a 2006 ford freestyle that needs a throttle body replaced. i cannot get the part because of a national backorder for this part. i have heard from several local dealers that this part is needed very often of this vehicle. i am waiting for this part and hope that my car will continue running. if this part has to be replaced so often, why is it not on a national recall? *tr

This complaint is in addition to complaint #10277570. after writing my initial complaint as explained i have found out that ford quit using the initial manufacture of the throttle control unit that failed. they just recently came out with a replacement part that requires modification of the system and we understand that they are quickly running out of this part. even our service reps feels this should be a recall item. especially if they cannot keep the parts on the shelf. *tr

I have a 2006 ford freestyle. a light came on indicating a problem with the drive train. the car would not shift or accell. i took it in to the dealer and found it needed a new throttle assembly. we were told it was on back order for 6 months, then after complaining they said that part had been discontinued and a new part with an adapter kit was available. it seems that the dealers that had the part did not want to part with them and we got the impression that this part which is a safety issue was failing on a lot of the cars. we were told that the original part manufacture was no longer doing business with ford and that is when they had to find someone to make a replacement. the original part had a cooling tube to it and the new one does not. it seems from what i have been hearing that this should be a recall item, especially since it is due to the safety of the car. we had purchased an extended warranty on this vehicle and when we took it in we were told that this specific part was excluded which made me wonder why unless there have been other cases like this. *tr

When we drive our 2006 freestyle, many times it runs rather fast and it's like it will get away from us. it usually happens when we are backing up and turning to the right. this happened one time and it choked off. when this occurred another time, the "wrench" light appeared. it will run "fast" and we need to really get on the brakes to have the problem disappear. we will be taking it into our local ford dealer to have the problem checked. *tr

2006 ford freestyle came to sudden stop on a freeway due to transmission fluid leak. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly began to lose power and decrease in speed. the vehicle would not gain speed when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the throttle control transmission light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop and the mechanic stated that this was a common failure. a diagnostic test was performed and the failure ceased when the vehicle was restarted. the vehicle was not repaired and the contact drove to her residence. the dealer stated that a diagnostic could not be performed unless the failure was present. they assumed that the failure was due to the throttle body of the engine. the failure recurred a month later while the vehicle was idling. the contact placed the vehicle into reverse and then back into drive. the vehicle accelerated and quickly stalled. the emission system light illuminated and the failure occurred three times in one day. the following day, the light remained illuminated, but there was no failure. they took the vehicle to the ford dealer for diagnostic testing, which confirmed the throttle body failure. through research, the contact verified that this was a common failure with her make and model vehicle. the manufacturer stated that they would not be responsible for the repairs. the vehicle is currently at the contact's residence waiting to be repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was 71,000. updated 09/14/09. *lj updated 09/14/09 updated 09/16/09.*jb

First time it happened car lunged forward at shut down, died completely. 30 minutes later was able to turn it over. mechanic said it needed throttle body but it was on national backorder until august 2009. so had to drive it home. happened quite a bit throughout that time until i realized that it had a lot to do with having the a/c on. it happens even without the a/c on sometimes at lights, stop signs, and in parking lots, and also when in reverse it lunges in that direction as well; sometimes at very high rate which is scary. have 3 children and cannot fathom why this car has not been recalled. i still owe money on it and now it is sitting in my mechanics garage because the cvt transmission went out.. 5 weeks now and i do not have transportation because i cannot afford to fix the cvt transmission that alot of other people are having the same problem with. *tr

This happened 3 times before they were able to do anything at the ford dealership because the lights would be off by the time i was able to reach the dealership, and their response was always technician was unable to duplicate symptom. while driving at 50mph on the interstate there was an intermittent idle surge while driving and then a loud "clunking" noise and then the transmission lost power and the vehicle crawled to a halt. there was no acceleration even though the engine revved up. the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver so i was unable to even get it into the emergency lane. i was stuck in the middle lane of the interstate with my child in the car. the check engine light, the wrench light for the cvt transmission, and the passenger air bag light also came on. i had to turn the car off, put it in park, and then restart the car, when i reached the dealership they were finally able to retrieve several fault codes. they performed an r&r transmission and overhaul. this happened 2 other times at (77004 miles, after shifting into park at 0 mph. they replaced a faulty throttle body for this repair- and then at 77238 miles-they replaced the alternator for this repair). it's beginning to happen again. this was and still is a dangerous situation. i now have 3 kids. i thank god we weren't struck from behind while driving on the interstate. i am terrified to drive the vehicle to long distance locations or drive on any parkway, highway, or interstate because it took a while for the vehicle to start up long enough to get it to the dealership that was only 4 miles away. *tr

I have a 2006 freestyle. i have a few major issues with the vehicle. about 3 months after we purchased the vehicle used i was driving on the freeway when all of a sudden the wrench dash light came on and it seemed like the car was shifted into a lower gear. i checked the shifter just in case, but it was still in drive. no matter how much gas i gave it the car wouldn't go any faster than 20 or so mph. i got off the freeway and took surface streets straight to the dealership to see of they could figure it out. i parked the car while i was waiting for the service person, when i turned the car back on everything was back to normal. this has happened several times in the past years but if you turn the car off and back on everything is fine so the dealership cant seem to diagnose the issue. shortly after that when the summer came the car started lurching or surging when at slow speed, typically if we were idling in a drive thru or going slowly to park or back out of a parking spot. i cant tell you how many cars and people i have almost hit because of this issue. and of course we are no longer under warranty so it will be thousands to fix it. last issue is with the a/c. i just replaced the compressor in august due to a bent valve or something in the compressor that was not fixable. the mechanic told me this has been a huge issue with this type of ford, but again no warranty and no recall so i'm out $1300 on a car with less than 80,000 miles on it. *tr

The car lunges while stopped or going in reverse. has done this for a long time..my wife is driving this car now and has bumped into post/almost lunged into passing car when backing out of parking spot. *tr

We have a 2006 for freestyle. after completing a turn, the car made a loud pitched squeal, and all gears were lost. ford has advised that the cvt (transmission), has failed. we kept the car maintained, and had no warning other than a light which came on at the time of failure. we had three children in the car at the time, and were lucky we were on a side road. ford also acknowledged they have seen this happen on other freestyles. dealer said they know about the issue, but no recall. cost to repair is close to $6,000. *tr

Cruise control caused traction control light and wrench light to come on. transmission went into a variance of neutral. fixed by turning off car and turning it back on again. vehicle worked fine without using cruise control until throttle body was replaced via recall. ever since then battery has had an undue amount of buildup at terminals and sequence above happened at irregular intervals. interval never more than 100 miles. always fixable by turning car off and turning it back on. ford says maybe $7100 will fix it. as of 3/1/2014 transmission went out but restart didn't fix it. this is not only dangerous, but thousands of these cars are doing the same thing. please help. most trannies cost maybe $2000, ford should have a better fix. otherwise i like the car and wouldn't mind paying a reasonable amount for a transmission replace. ford is saying $4500 in labor, there's no way it takes a week for a competent qualified mechanic to replace a transmission. *tr

Excessive brake dust. was informed that rear brakes were down to metal. rotors were so worn they could not be turned.replaced rear brakes and rotors.took car in for routine check and mentioned that the rear bar that the 3rd row of seats holds onto was rusting. asked if they could check for leaks and if other people were complaining. they found no leaks and said i must have gotten the car excessively wet on the inside (no!). i also complained about a sour moldy smell coming from the air conditioner...again no solution.had to replace tires becuase they wor out 'prematurely'. was told it was my driving. dealership would not do anything under warranty or offer help. tires had abnormal wear on the inside(toeing?) then i was getting very poor gas mileage and needed a routine check and oil change again. i took it in and was informed i had no rear brakes left. the rear calipers were failing to release. once again brake assembly was replaced. took car in for and engine noise/whine 3 different times and had a tech ride with me. each time they heard nothing and did nothing. took car in for a loud noise coming from rear wheel along with a burning smell. tech rode with me and did not hear any noise from tire but did comment about the engine noise/whine. i was finally relieved that he heard it and i told him no other tech has seemed to hear it. car was looked at and found that rear driver tire bearings were shot and wheel was loose(very dangerous they said) they had to order parts. when i asked what they found out about the engine whine that the tech also heard, i was told there was no mention of it but they would look into it before i came to pick up my car. next i got a phone call saying the shop foreman didn't hear the noise, so there was nothing they could do.now for the last two days my car has started really rough and then died. yesterday it surged forward and the wrench light turned on. i took it in and now they say the code says there is a transmission failure!? 45,000. *tr
