We have classified the 318 complaints from 2005 Ford Freestyle about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the check engine, wrench icon and the traction control warning indicators illuminated as the vehicle exhibited an abnormal reduction in power. the engine rpms also increased abnormally as the vehicle lunged forward. the failure was recurring over a two year span. the vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician could not diagnose the problem. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure was 90,000.
1.) while putting car in reverse, with foot on brake the car lunges backward with significant force & speed. 2.) while sitting with 'drive' engaged & foot on brake car will lunge in the same manner. if a/c or heat is on it is significantly worse & more dangerous!! this happens very unexpectedly & surges/lunges quite a distance before vehicle is able to be stopped. sometimes the vehicle will completely shut itself off with some type of a fail safe error displayed. this problem occurs multiple times daily on a daily basis! i am scared to death to back out of any parking space with the fear of hitting a pedestrian! as well as this issue, while driving at any speed, the vehicle acts like it will stall. meaning that you may be driving anywhere from 20-60mph & it hesitates - not only when accelerating, but when at a consistent speed as well. this too increases with heating & cooling on. all incidents could cause great harm! *tr
The very first time it occurred i was parking my vehicle and it just lunge forward on its own. my foot was on the brake and not on the accelerator. it happen multiple times that day to the point i started to put the car in neutral when i came to a stoplight to keep it from possibly hitting another vehicle. this went on and on that summer and it seemed to do it when it is hot and the a/c is running. it hasn't stop since! *tr
On 6/18/12 as i was slowly backing out of my garage i heard the car revved up a bit and the car suddenly lunged backwards for a couple of seconds. it's a good thing i had my foot on the brake pedal so the car didn't just speed backwards all the way. *tr on 6/20/12 as i was pulling out of the grocery complex, turning right into the main road the car suddenly revved up and started lunging forward. it's a good thing i had my foot on the pedal again. also it's a good thing there was enough distance between my car and the one in front. otherwise i would have hit that car because the lunge was pretty significant. i brought it to ford upland, ca for the throttle body service. i gave them a copy of the ford tsb 09-24-12 but in inspecting the vehicle afterwards, i do not see any evidence that the throttle body was removed and then cleaned thoroughly. the tsb specifically states to remove the tb and clean it properly. i am guessing that they just opened up the other end and sprayed tb cleaning compound and that's it. now i am weary that the lunging might happen again. i am hoping through the nhtsa this vehicle can be recalled and ford to assume all costs of replacing the defective tb and any other connected problems to lunging. this is my only vehicle and i use this to drive my family which includes a 1 year old baby. *tr
The car will lunge almost uncontrollably when stopped at any length of time with air conditioning on. this will make the car stall out and cause the wrench light to come on rendering the car to operate in safety mode. *tr
The vehicle surges at low speeds, more frequently when a/c is on. *tr
When i put car in reverse, drive, or when car is sitting idle there is a sudden abrupt throttle in the transmission gas. the acceleration is so abrupt that it causes the car to move with force without having to press the gas. there were a few incidences where i almost rammed the objects in front and behind me, from the sudden throttles/acceleration. ive noticed that if im sitting behind the wheel at a traffic light and i have my foot on the break and if i move the steering wheel the car will accelerate on its own. please look into this issue. *js [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
Car was parked in rear of apartment complex.when i put it in reverse it lunged back without my foot on the gas, smashing the rear of the car into the apartment building wall. i did have a seat belt on but the impact caused severe neck trauma as my head was turned at the time of impact. i shut the car off. approximately an hour later i started the car, put it in drive, and as i attempted to drive the car home, it would "lose power", the wrench light would come on, and the car would have no transmission power. i had to pull the car over, turn it off and restart it. this happened repeatedly. the local ford dealership incorrectly diagnosed and charged me a repair for cleaning the sensor - and refused to refund me my diagnostic charges even though my car was not fixed. i did my own research to learn it was a throttle body issue. the service manager stated they would apply the credit towards replacing the throttle body....but not all the charges. they were horrible to deal with in customer service after completely failing to fix my car and charging me almost $500. *tr
I just recently had my freestyle(05)become increasingly horrible lunging in parking lots, drive thru's,etc. upon reading about it on your website i realized how much of the same problems are occuring for all the owners of this vehicle. it just recently has gotten worse since i just had the a/c compressor replaced. *tr
Vehicle surges at low speed, both in forward or in reverse, necessitating heavy braking to keep vehicle under control. when moving at slow speed there is a 1000 rpm increase when the steering wheel is turned. this has resulted in one near accident thus far. *tr
When at a stop, our car lunges when you press on the gas pedal, forward or reverse. there is a hesitation after pushing on the pedal than it leaps forward or reverse. i was told from a dealer that it needed the throttle body cleaned and was told the same from a transmission shop. the transmission shop informed me of some problems ford was having with this transmission. i looked it up on line and seen many complaints. i cleaned it and it seemed to fix the problem. a couple of months ago, it started the lunging again. this morning, the car shuttered and stopped and several lights on the dash lit up, wrench, motor. the car wouldn't move, it wouldn't even rev up. it stranded my wife on the side of the road. i came to meet her and had it towed to our house. i cleaned the throttle body again. when i got in to try it, all the lights were no longer there but it still lunges. very afraid to let my wife drive it again with the possibility of being stranded.
Hello, in may this year the transmission started failing on my vehicle. i am the third owner. the previous owner, who works at ford dealership, told me that he had to replace all electronics and sensors on the transmission ($1500 parts and labor). i took the car to several mechanic shops and at every shop i was told the transmission has to be replaced (estimates ranged between $2800 and $5000). i bought a used transmission from a 2006 model ($2100) and had it replaced by a mechanic ($700 for labor). now the transmission is beginning to fail again. last week it began producing loud noise and vibration. everywhere i look on the web i see owners of ford freestyle complaining about the same issue! here is an example: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0d8ce7 i'm sure if you google up "ford freestyle transmission" you'll find a lot more complaints and you probably have a lot of complaints filed already! i think it is time that ford acknowledged that they produced a defective car and recalled the entire 2005-2007 ford freestyle series for a free transmission replacement! this issue is very dangerous. the car suddenly loses power without any warning and stalls. we got stalled in the middle of traffic on the highway (i-288) and only escaped an accident by a miracle! thank you for your time and consideration! *tr
Car begun accelerating while pulling into the garage. noticed that it would accelerate or lung at low speed. it also happens when turning the steering wheel. this happens going forward or reverse. also revs up motor while stopped. it has happened while pulling into parking spaces (have almost went over a hill side at work parking), stopping at stop lights (several times run up on the back of cars at stop lights), pull into garage (have almost drove thru my wall) and backing out of my drive way. this has become increasingly dangerous. took to the ford dealership to have checked for problem was told that i need to have my throttle body replaced. costing around $600. i am now understanding that this is a problem that has been reported by several people but no recall has been done to correct the problem. i have in many cases came close to having an accident. driving this car is unsafe and i was even told that by the car dealer and was told that they would suggest that i rent a car until my car was fixed. under the affected parts this part is not listed it is the throttle body. *tr
The car was surging and lurching forward even when the brake was engaged. we had near misses running in to cars in front of us just trying to get it to a safe location as we were stuck in a parking lot and in stop and go traffic. while on the interstate is would just loose almost all power even though the accelerator was floored. *tr
When in reverse or drive if turning the sterring wheel the car take off and you have to but the brake on hard to stop car. this happens 95% of the time. *tr
My car makes a funny high pitched noise while driving. also in park to drive, it will lunge forward. i was told that it is a intake bearing that has come loose in my transmission. the noise gets louder as you continue to accelerate. it will only make the noise when it is in motion. i bought this vehicle used in 2010 with around 58,000 miles. *tr
Pulling out of a parking space after idling for approximately 10 or so minutes the vehicle was placed into reverse and the vehicle lurched back about 10 feet almost striking two cars and a person. the lurching has occurred on multiple occasions also when this happens the vehicle goes into failsafe mode. it has also lurched going in drive as well. *tr
Sudden engine revving driving on interstate. loss of power to transmission. instrument panel wrench light came on. after resting restarted and acted like nothing happened. drove to dealership evaluation showed an event. assuming it's ok to drive. weeks later at a stop light hesitation and jerking was occurring. this continues, worse if ac was on. nothing ever revealed on instrument panel indicating failure. back to ford based on codes it was going to need a $900+ part. during this process it was revealed a new transmission was required or a rebuilt. 4-7k. we no longer trust this car for our safety. it was always maintained at dealership. we loved this car. *tr
While driving at 7 am in the morning on a very bust road in nevada, both the check in light and the failsafe mode light came on. the car stopped in traffic and i had seconds to get over to the side. i got as far out of the road as possible but it was a dicey situation. i called my mechanic who sent a tow truck. i had no problems with this car until i hit 120000. as soon as i did, the check engine light came on. took it to the shop and got a code read about the mass air flow sensor, which i don't have . i have a maf sensor. replaced sensor, then fine for 2 months. then the light came back on while i was at the dmv trying to register my car in nv. had to take it to the shop again and the code was for the egr valve. replaced that, no lights for 1 month. then last month the light came back on and my mechanic decided he should clean the throttle body. said there were problems with it but no recall had been issued. he said he would clean it and see if that fixed the problem. light came back on in three days. hooked it up again for diagnostics and the code is for an oxygen sensor, ordered that and then yesterday, the wrench and the cel came on and i was almost rear-ended. car in shop now and i have no idea what is next. car is lurching, having trouble accelerating and chugs along. *tr
Shifting from park to reverse or to drive causes a dangerous spike in rpms and the car tries to take off with no foot on gas pedal. seems to be increasing more and more and gives a feeling that the brakes won't hold the car from taking off on day. makes me fearful for parking lot areas or driveway areas. seems very dangerous and have heard that ford will not do anything about problem no matter what. *tr
I was at a stop light and my car lunched on its own and on many different occassions it lunches even when reversing or parking. one time i almost hit a vehicle because this occurred. this is very dangerous and i want to find out if this will be fixed by ford or is this an expense i will have to deal with. *tr
The car lunges forward. it happen in forward or reverse gear. ac in on position. it has happen when car starts moving or while it is moving at lower speeds. no accidents, just close calls. in driveways, drive thru's. moving on streets and parking lots. having to apply brakes harder. car stalls at hotter outside temperatures. *tr
While driving on the highway at a speed of approximately 70 mph, the car (2005 ford freestyle) would not accelerate/maintain speed and quickly decelerated and had to be pulled into the emergency lane, coming to a complete stop. the car had to be turned off and restarted in order to continue traveling the 3 hours left in the 9 hour trip back home. the ford service shop said the throttle body ($900), ac compressor ($1,300), and top engine mount ($330) need to be replaced. based on what i've been able to read on the internet, this appears to be a recurring and dangerous theme with this ford vehicle. *tr
This is the 2nd time this happened! again, we were on the highway and suddenly the motor gave out. luckily, we made it without an accident to the shoulder. the wrench symbol and the cel were on. the motor started again but the car didn't take any gas, didn't accelerate. and the engine was running very rough and rumbling. i had my wife and kids in the car and was really so mad. we had to call a tow truck and a taxi to get home. the cel came on so many times in the past months, we checked the code - it was always for the throttle body. we cleaned it and the light was gone. only to come back a couple of weeks later. as i said, we've been dealing with this problem since some months now. but this is the 2nd time the motor actually stalled. and in this really very dangerous situation : on a highway!! ford needs to initiate a recall, i've done some research in the last months, there are so many complaints about this problem. my freestyle also lunges forward/backward if i'm accelerating. i think it's all related and totally irresponsible of ford not do do something. it's a serious safety issue. a miracle no one has been injured until now - or worse!!! *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated while driving at any speed, the vehicle made a knocking noise. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. the failure was located in the transmission input shaft and bearing. the manufacturer stated that the failure was not related to a recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 49,000 and the current mileage was 50,000.
I brought my car to the dealership today it was making a very loud transmission noise. i received a call at 4pm from the ford dealership stating that the transmission was bad. when i received this information i researched the problem only to find thousands of complaints on cvt transmissions from for. they have refused to correct this problem under recall which i find to be terrible. when they are in financial deficet they get bailed out by our government but when they have faulty equiptment they turn their head. i am disgusted with the way they have delt with this problem. who can afford to buy a new transmission for a vehicle every 60000 miles!! i guess we can let the american consumer take the hit that works for aliving and pays taxes so that they can get bailed out of trouble when they have problems!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while proceeding after a complete stop, the vehicle abruptly accelerated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the transmission was replaced. however, the failure was not corrected. the vehicle continued to abruptly accelerate. the vehicle was taken for a second diagnostic to an independent mechanic whom located a failure code at the throttle body. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
After having the car seviced for stalling , and having the throttle cleaned, the car again would not start.. this time it had drained the brand new battery as well. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician advised the contact that there was an electrical failure. the contact referred to nhtsa action number: 12v006000 (power train:automatic transmission:torque converter) that could possibly have been related to the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vin was not included in the recall. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
While driving on the highway with my wife at a speed of 55mph the motor suddenly dies and the wrench symbol appears. i tried to restart the car by turning the key - didn't work. luckily we were close to an exit and i let the car roll out and onto a parking lot. there i tried again to start the car and it suddenly started again and the wrench symbol is gone. i went to a mechanic to have it checked out but he couldn't find anything. and the car runs fine w/o incident since then. i am just glad that my 3 kids weren't with us in the car that day and that nothing serious happened. a motor dying on a highway can cause serious trouble ! shortly after i bought the car about 2 months ago the cel went on and the error codes for torque/throttle body were given. i went to valvoline to have the fuel system cleaned and the codes taken out, no problems since then. but i've noticed that the car is very sluggish when i accelerate and then suddenly lunges. needless to say that i think this car is not the best model ford developed, we did some research on this model and there are so many complaints. ford needs to do some serious customer care !!! and of course i find my car highly unreliable and expect it to break down any day. *tr
While at idle upon starting car and shifting (automatic) from park to drive or reverse, the vehicle has exhibited significant "lunging" without any applied pressure to gas peddle. additionally, this lunging has been repeated a number of times independent of initial vehicle starts (i.e. when parking the car and backing up). approximate lunging of the vehicle before human response time and brake application with subsequent stoppage of vehicle is subjectively estimated at 24-36 inches (2-3 feet). recommendation: recall; replace and/or repair. reference investigation number: pe11018. *tr
The transmission has started to make a very ugly noise when on park. the suv lunges and the rpm needle goes out of control sometimes. i've read online of other ford freestyles having the same problems and i've also heard that these problems have cause some accidents. please do something to fix this problem. we do don't have the money to have these problems fixed and we need the transportation. thanks. *tr
In this incident, before the engine shut off the car would surge with power forcing my car to thrust forward without control, perhaps certain times up to anywhere from a few inches to a couple feet. after this happens for a little while the car turns off and the system reads failsafe engine mode. this incident happened to me 3 times on the way to the dealership, and i just received the estimate of around $850 to fix this unsafe working vehicle due to its electronic throttle body malfunctioning. luckily no people were close to my car any of the times the car was randomly accelerating. *kb
My vehicle has a failed throttle body as evidenced by two codes: t2106 and p061b (reported to me by my mechanic). it lunges or surges when trying to accelerate normally. it goes into "engine fail safe mode" repeatedly and randomly. it has "rough starts" from time to time that have not been found to have another cause. now, the check engine light is on and stays on, and it will not go into engine fail safe mode, which actually scares me. it scares me because, as i understand it, engine fail safe mode is a protective mode for a failed throttle body. when my mechanic ran the diagnostics on the check engine light, he got the two codes listed above, which he said indicate a failed throttle body. he said this could be dangerous. he said that from his research, this is a wide-spread problem, and ford should have issued a recall on this by now. i have contacted ford, and they are refusing to assist with this. my real dilemma is that even if i pay for the replacement, if ford has not reengineered the part, i will be putting in another defective ford part. this is what is happening to many ford owners. they are experiencing multiple failed throttle bodies. i feel trapped in this situation with no good solution other than to pray for safety and hope for ford to do the right thing and reengineer this part, recall it, and replace it. can you please investigate this? thank you, ford driver *tr
Eng. surging car wants to accelerate while standing at red light hat trouble holding car still also while driving car wants to lurch forward. *tr
The vehicle lurches/lunge just before stop. on numerous occasions, it would lurch/lunge just as it is stopping. has been going on for a year; had vehicle serviced/repaired but still continues to malfunction. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while parked, the contact heard a knocking noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic where the mechanic advised that the transmission would have to be inspected and possibly replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The cvt transmission in this model is a problem. it has always had a surge when you first put it in gear or let off the brake, but that is something my wife and i got used to. couple days ago we got into the car, and right after the little surge we're used to we noticed the tach was going way up (3500-4000) and we were just starting to about 10-15mph. it would only use the lower ratio and would not let us go any faster than about 40mph. we took it back home, read the manual and it said to take it straight back to the dealer. called the dealer and they didn't even want to mess with it, said they did not have the right equipment to check it correctly. so then we called a transmission repair shop. they drove it and ran some tests on it and said it's internal problems. leave the car with them for 3-4 days and they would try to fix it. wouldn't give us a quote in writing, although they said we're looking at $4000-$6000 to get it fixed or replaced. searched around on the internet and seen alot of the same. if it was something we did wrong to make a $15,000 vehicle last year worth $1,500 right now i would not say a word. this is not right and needs to be addressed by ford. this is our only car and i'm going to continue to use it to get and forth from work because, at the moment, it'll let you drive it for 20 minutes or so before it starts staying stuck in the low ratios. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestar. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate in any gear. the vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where the mechanic confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the contact stated that the rear sliding door failed to lock properly. the manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileages were 77,000.
My vehicle has a cvt (continuously variable transmission). the "check transmission" light comes on, car only goes about 30 mph with engine at 4,000 rpm. turn car off and back on and the problem is gone for a few minutes but then recurs. while this problem is happening the car idles at 2,000 rpm (instead of 800). if you take you foot off the brake while sitting still the car will lunge forward unexpectedly. the ford dealership (allan vigil in morrow, ga) quoted $5,800 to replace the transmission. they did not tell me that it would be a rebuilt transmission. it seems the cvt transmission is no longer manufactured and ford can only rebuild the transmission. there seem to be many similar complaints about this vehicle yet ford says they are "very surprised" at the failure. interestingly, i did not mention the "lunging" issue to the service advisor. before my car was moved from the service lane he noted lunging on the report. if the problem isn't widespread how did he know that? basically, i have a 6 year old car that has been meticulously maintained by the dealership. and a common point of failure is no longer manufactured and i have to pay almost $6000 to have the cvt rebuilt. the frequent cvt failure and the lunging issue in my opinion should be recalled by ford. *tr
The vehicle began to surge on the hwy. the rpms would surge forward and relax to normal rpm speed. i received a recall letter a few day's ago. my worry is that i have taken it to repair facilities and they found nothing wrong. i am worried that i will have transmission problems because of the recall defect. i have read many posts about cvt transmission failure, it would appear that ford is doing nothing about the transmission problems. i have owned fords for over thirty years and if the cvt problems are not addressed. i will not buy another, my family will not buy again either. *tr
Second complaint on cvt transmission. dealership said the only way to repair the transmission is to replace it as they ford doesn't make parts for it anymore. the transmission will cost $5800.00. how can ford be allowed to discontinue parts on a 6 year old vehicle. both my wife and i are social security recipients and asking us to pay $5800.00 is something that impossible for us. for the sake of not only people such as us, how about the numerous complaints on edmund.com by others who have the same problem and the same result. ford motor consumer department has stated they will not assist in anyway. please help us and soon. *tr
This is my second notice on the transmission problems i am sure you have been deluged with. ford represented the problem as fluid and thought this would take care of the problem with the transmission suddenly causing the vehicle to stop. i paid $325.00 to have this work completed. drove the car home and the next morning the same problem occurred. car was towed to landmark ford for the second time. i am informed tonight that they think the problem is with an internal seal for which they have no parts for and recommended a new transmission at a cost of $5800.00 plus labor. how can ford not be responsible for a design error in the first place and require someone to invest this amount of money. i as many i have read on the recall and defects web page need your hopefully immediate attention. please help us as we are social security people and don't have $5800.00. Cvt transmission failed for the second time while driving. vehicle lurched and the wrench light came on, front end shuddered. restarted the vehicle and it would drive, but would only achieve 20 mph with very high rpms. dealer says transmission will have to be replaced. as i understand reading the numerous complaints, they don't make this unit anymore. i am faced with a vehicle that i can't drive. please do something. *kb
I purchased my ford freestyle in june 2011 and shortly after my car began lunging forward when the air conditioner was on. my car began doing it in forward and reverse gear. i have taken my car to the dealer twice before. they replaced the air compressor, cleaned the throttle body, and reset the computer. this will treat the problem for awhile but it will always come back. last week i nearly hit a pedestrian in a cross walk when my car decided to lunge forward at a red light with my foot on the brake. my wife has nearly hit cars in drive through lines. again i put my car in the shop and they are doing the same work as before. i have been pushed into intersections and nearly t-boned. i have almost hit cars when trying to back up. this car is not safe because even with my foot on the brake the car can move 5-8 feet. when the car lunges forward or backward it will most of the time rumble then die, which is dangerous when i am sent into an intersection with cars coming at me. sometimes i am able to depress the gas pedal all the way, driving at 4000 rpms and slowly move out of the way. i worry about my family of six safety as well as any innocent that may get hurt because of fords incapability to fix the problem they have created. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated while coming to a traffic light with his foot on the brake pedal the vehicle lunged forward almost causing a crash. the automatic transmission gear shifted into low gear and would not shift into any other gear. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who repaired the vehicle at the owners expense for $700. the dealer also informed him he does not need to repair transmission. the manufacturer was notified and stated there were no recalls for both failures. the offered no other assistance. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 73,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated and there was an increase in engine rpms. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostics and the technician stated that the torque converter would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 123,000. the vin was not available.
The transmission went out in our ford freestyle. we are finding out that this is happening to many ford freestyles with the crv transmission. ford knows this is a huge problem, but will not recall these cars. i am done with ford cars forever. *js
On the date noted, i was stopped at a traffic light with my foot on the brake when the car suddenly lurched forward (maybe 6-9 inches). i turned the corner to enter a parking garage and while stopped with my foot on the brake, the car lurched forward again, this time the car stalled. i restarted it pulled forward to the garage gate and stopped. it lurched a third time, stalling again and then the service engine light came on. i can best describe it as though i released the clutch (on a manual shift car) with my foot on the brake and not the accelerator. in such a situation, the car will lurch and stall. however this is an automatic and the reason the clutch would engage is from acceleration. i recall the motor revving up prior to the lurch which would explain the event. the ford dealership finally narrowed the problem to the throttle body and the electronics attached to it and required replacement ($700+). i would say this event occurred at least 6 times in the past year, always while the car was stopped but never 3 times in succession. it stalled maybe two of those times, entered 'engine failsafe mode' but was fine after re-starting the engine. i researched this occurrence on the internet finding it to be an issue on many occasions with this model vehicle. there are several reports on your website as well. i see the investigation is still open. i noted one report referencing a design flaw as to the release of gases in the throttle body and how they are re-routed back throughout the body. the service rep at the dealer noted to me that the new body installed on my car was a new design where the gases are released away from the body. i take this as acknowledgement that the original design was flawed, leading to its unsafe behavior. note that this last event occurred in 90+ degree weather with the ac on and after highway driving for 3 hours. *kb
I just had the a/c compressor replaced and now the car lunges without pressing on the gas peddle. it mostly happens while i am moving from park to reverse. it has happened once, while i was moving forward in a parking lot and then stalled. pressing the brake pedal overrides the sudden acceleration, and it seems to be worse when the air conditioning is on or the steering wheel is turned. while it started slowly, it is now happening ever time i put the car in reverse. i need to keep my foot on the brake peddle every time. i am hoping that ford places a recall on the ford freestyle. *tt
