On average, the 2016 Ford Focus starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 40 467 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2016 Ford Focus

Have had same clutch and transmission problems as the models under recall, but my car was manufactured a few months after covered manufacturer date

The cvt transmission will occasionally shutter during acceleration from both a dead stop and low speed roll. the most common times when this will occur is when the outside temperature is above thirty degrees faherenheit. this issue will cause slow acceleration as the computer attempts to decipher which gear to shift into.

Although it's an automatic gearbox, feels like it's acting like a manual with slipping clutch when accelerating at low speeds. ie 0 to 45mph. intermittently judders, high revs low power or lack of power at times when pulling off from stationary position clutch intermittently when accelerating

Engine light came on with "engine fault service now" message. the vehicle went into limp mode and finally car shut down. i took into a ford dealership and they said the turbo and engine were not getting fuel on the highway pumped into them and would both need replaced.

Transmission module was going 60 car when to 30 mph, car can go in rev was informed by dealer. car wont start on cold or warm days not battery, clicks after trying to start and turn off.

I've gotten my vehicle's transmission serviced twice in the last year under warranty for the same problem. the transmission's clutches were replaced to supposedly fix problems with the vehicle lacking acceleration and rough shifting. even after getting the transmission serviced, the vehicle still suffered the same symptoms. the most extreme problem/concern is that the vehicle sometimes goes into neutral although it's in 'drive'.vehicle currently has 78,000 miles.

I bought the car at a ford dealer in march of this year and was steered into it without any mention of the tranny and clutch problems. sure enough the clutch is slipping at only 12000 miles! we have been waiting for a clutch to come in for 10 days so far. i contacted ford and they just said they would keep fixing it. i can`t believe that they were allowed to keep selling these cars knowing the problems that they had! we told them we were buying a car to get back and forth to the city when my bf gets his kidney transplant and this is what we are stuck paying for for over 5 more years and they say there is no permanent fix! we are scared to even drive it! it jerks into gear from low to 2 and sometimes hesitates. if it does this at the wrong time, it could get us killed!

While driving 70mph on the highway - the car immediately shifted into neutral and then after a short period, slammed into a lower gear. this could have been bad if there was any traffic as the car immediately slowed down.

The vehicle is experiencing a transmission shutter but is not included in the recall. this is a safety concern that almost caused me an accident and needs to be addressed. ford motor company is not helping and wants me to pay out of pocket.

Transmission element stuck on neutral, ford focus 2016 , ford sold the cars and knew there was a problem. gear sifts in neutral, my car hesitated in a crossing and my car was hit in the back door. .the clutch slips in neutral, ford uses dry clutches in this car for efficiency, but wet clutches would bathe the friction discs. ford issued documents with the problem code dps6, around the world they have had class action suits pertaining to this problem.

I bought this 2016 focus in hopes on giving it to my daughter but i will not, it is not a safe gave to drive. out of nowhere it was struggling to go into drive gear and the reverse gear and then i was jerking really bad where my daughters heads we're hurting because of itso i took it to a ford dealership in riverside california and they are trying to charge me now $3,000 and they had it for more than a month now and i am about to lose my job because of the situation with this car ford is saying that they would pay for my rental but it's still being charged to my card which i am being overdraft for and i'm coming in more in-depth and debt because of this car i am a single mother trying to provide for my children all on my ownthis is unacceptable of ford and this situation has caused me to go into an accident and i end up hitting another carthis transmission issue should not be an expense i should be paying for or becoming in debt for fortune be fully liable for the situation

Issue with the clutch. i have to replace the clutch again on my car and there appear to be continued issues with ford focus clutches. my car won't shift correctly and i was told inaccurate information by two separate ford dealerships. the car won't properly shift when gaining speed and feels like it is going to stall. my car does not shift well all all types of roads, including city streets and highways. this has happened multiple times and an ongoing issue, not one occurrence. after researching ford focus clutches, there appears to be a recall on some vehicles. i was told my car is not part of this recall. however, my car is having the same issues as noted in the recall and this seems to be a poor quality clutch manufacturing issues on all ford focuses, not just the specific group that was initially listed. i feel that my car also should be a part of this recall and there could be many other customers experiencing this as well.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, it took a few seconds to accelerate as if it had a manual transmission. the contact stated that the failure occurred for approximately one year and worsened over time. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 60,500.

My 2016 ford focus se has stalled while driving on the freeway twice in the past two weeks. in addition, the transmission is very jerky and the engine studders and makes loud noises when shifting into 2nd and 3rd gears. the car only has 53,000 miles on it, yet the transmission is defective.

While driving within city limits on a daily basis, my vehicle shutters from the start and at acceleration, sometimes stalls as i start to eccelerate from red lights and stop signs, creating potential hazardous conditions. engine light has come on and want go off, and smells of fuel while vehicle is being driven.

My vehicle shutters when attempting to shift out of 1st gear, and is often associated with a loud noise. the issue has gradually increased in severity until last week (10.01.19) my car stalled at an intersection after stopping at a red light. after talking with automotive technicians at a ford dealership this is a result of a faulty clutch system. however, at this time ford refuses to acknowledge any wrongdoing in regards to this problem in my make and model.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving 30-55 mph, the gear shifted into neutral and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. in addition, the "engine too hot" message was displayed and the vehicle failed to accelerate and/or start. the vehicle was taken to cavalier ford greenbrier (1515 s military hwy, chesapeake, va 23320, (757) 424-1111), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 32,000.

When the car was at 55k, the dual clutch transmission's clutches were slipping out of gear from 1000-3000 rpm and produced extreme jerkiness. it would happen from a stop as well as just driving in that rpm range. i had to get my input shaft seal and clutches replaced at 56k. mind you clutches are supposed to last 100k according to ford. also while backing up the car would violently jerk as the clutch was slipping, it was also difficult to go uphill. the clutch repair made it feel better, the shudder is coming back in just 1000 miles at 57k. i am afraid that the clutches will slip again and shift into neutral while driving. i have no warranty either, i don't think i should be eating a cost of almost 2000 for a problem that should not exist. please get a recall going for this...

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. after reversing out of a parking space at 10 mph, the vehicle was shifted into drive, an abnormal noise was heard, and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the noise continued while driving at low speeds. once stopped, the vehicle was unable to shift into reverse. the vehicle was taken to koons ford of annapolis (2540 riva rd, annapolis, md 21401) where it was diagnosed that the transmission and clutch needed to be replaced along with the pcm valve. the contact was also made aware that a portion of the repairs were covered under warranty. the manufacturer was notified and the contact was awaiting a manager to call back. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

I am making a complaint that my 2016 ford focus with a installed automatic dual-clutch power-shift transmission. i am experiencing severe hesitations when i accelerate. i am experiencing a jerky car movement, as i am driving, this having g the feeling that i could lose control of my vehicle. the driving conditions are the worst in normal city driving conditions, as the transmission is working more than on a interstate or freeway. most of my diving is in the city. i have take it to local authorized ford dealerships and they say there is no recall, fix, and that it will be $289 to give a diagnosis. there is currently a class action lawsuit that was filed, but is too late to join. i am filing my complaint against how ford is not helping to solve a known issue with my vehicle, without major costs. ive taken the vehicle to an established auto transmission business and they diagnosed that the vehicle will need a full transmission rebuild or replacement. the 'check engine' light is on and the diagnosis code is indicating 'transmission issue' only. photos are attached.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate or shift into reverse. the vehicle could not be driven and the transmission warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a new transmission and clutch needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure later recurred. the vehicle was taken back to a mechanic and a sensor was replaced, which also failed. the vehicle was taken back to the mechanic two more times for repairs, but the failure recurred both times. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 99,000. *tt*jb

The vehicle started to shudder and jerk while it was in motion only two months after the purchase of the vehicle. the diagnosis was a bad clutch in an automatic vehicle.

The vehicle stalled during a left turn into the right lane of oncoming traffic and was hit as a result. the vehicle was declared a total loss. the vehicle had been taken to ford previously due to concerns of stalling/sluggish acceleration at which time the dealer disclosed an issue was known that was most likely the cause. the dealership kept the car and performed repairs. the acceleration seemed a little better but still not right based on decades of driving experience. i think the cpv issue (18s32/18v-735) may have caused the car to stall and be hit when it would not have been hit otherwise.

Vehicle stalled in the middle of highway. vehicle stall after gas in put intontank. check engine light comes on and purge valve or vacuumed leak noted. vehicle randomly shuts off and or loses power. our car was almost hit while it stalled turning at an intersection. the transmission shutters and doesn't shift. the transmission when in drive goes in reverse and when in reverse the transmission goes in drive.

When car warms up about 25 minutes when accelerating from a stop the car jolts and shutters and shakes your body as you're holding the steering wheel. so it is very dangerous when entering an intersection and your go to accelerate and the car shakes your body because it's jolting because the transmission is acting up. this is definitely a safety issue and needs to be addressed.

Automatic transmission shuddering while accelerating in 1st and 2nd gears. transmission actually completely cuts out occasionally, forcing the car to lurch backward somewhat until the transmission engages again. high rpm levels at shift points between 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. definitely a safety issue, as there have been and will continue to be times that i try to accelerate to get up to appropriate speed, but the car takes too long to be able to get up to highway speeds. articles are saying 2012 to 2016 focus are affected, yet there is no transmission recall on my 2016? the issues did not go away!

Car has shuddered and failed to properly accelerate which started within a few weeks of buying the vehicle new. the shuddering of the transmission sounds like rattling and that the car is going to stall when it is a automatic vehicle. the car is shuddering often from stops to accelerations, feels like the car is trying to grip into the next gear and is a safety concern. i have personally had my clutch replaced by ford 2 times and i have only owned the vehicle for a little over 2 years. to get ford to replace the clutch is a huge headache. for months when i would take the vehicle in due to this safety compliant they would say that the shuddering transmission is within normal limits and refuse to fix it under the warranty. i also tried to contact the corporate headquarters to get it fixed and no results there either. for the most recent repair i had to really fight the service center to drive it and get it replaced upon failing their diagnostic tests. car also has a rough idle which has resulted in the motor mount being replaced. car is low mileage and a 2016. it is truly a safety issue because when the shuddering occurs the car fails to accelerate to a safe speed timely.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving 30 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact called jenkins & wynne ford, honda, & lincoln (located at 2655 trenton rd, clarksville, tn 37040, (931) 542-4886) and notified them of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 67,000.

I was driving on the i-5 south when my car suddenly loses acceleration and speed in between shifts nearly causing an accident. luckily the car behind me swerved to the other lane. very scary moment because my car couldn't find it's gear.

When accelerating from a stop, the car shudders as it goes from first gear to second gear and there is a noise that sounds like gears are grinding.

Car shudders and shakes when switched between low gears. is an automatic transmission. was promised by ford dealer when buying that the transmission issue did not effect the 2016 models. after owning the car for less than a month the car needed to have its clutch replaced. ford again promised this was a new part and would fix the issue permanently. less than a year later and i am having the exact same issue.

The transmission on my car will commonly shudder when shifting in lower gears, frequently creating an unsafe lag in moments where quick acceleration is required. the problem becomes more pronounced as the period of continuous or near-continuous use increases. it is my understanding that, at present, the transmission is not shuddering enough to warrant a repair under the terms of my warrantee, however i believe that is due to my continual adjustment to driving style to accommodate this unsafe situation. i don't believe it's prudent for me to exacerbate the situation at the risk of my family's safety in order to qualify for repair at the manufacturer's expense. the shuddering itself can range from a light flutter to a complete disengagement of the clutch for a second or two. at highway speeds, that amount of time is unacceptable. to me, it feels as though the software is attempting to decide and actuate a desired gear ratio, but doing so in a timeframe that is far longer than what it would take me to do so in a manual transmission. additionally, some engagement mechanism or program frequently misjudges the engagement of the clutch, resulting in mechanical abnormality ranging from a flutter to a shudder to a loud and forceful knocking as it attempts to engage. the odd behavior is most pronounced when shifting between first, second, or third gear. occasional but very alarming disengagement of the clutch can occur at highway speeds. turning can seem to exacerbate the problem.

January 2019 had transmission clutch replaced under warranty july 2019 transmission went out again on major highway, replaced tansmission control module and clutch motor, car has been in service for 8 days still not repaired. car was stationary at a red light, went to accelerate, revved like it was in neutral, then hot transmission error, and after repeatedly putting it in park and drive, it drove for 10 seconds and was able to get farther to the edge of the road to wait for tow truck. high speed traffic and cross traffic at intersection extremely hazardous, very lucky not to have been in a major accident.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. on several occasions, while attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the rpms dropped below 500 and the vehicle failed to respond. the contact stated that the vacuum assist for the brakes was inoperable. the vehicle was taken to don franklin ford (located at 388 ky-192, london, ky 40741, (888) 461-0896) on two separate occasions to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the failure was due to the dual clutch in the transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v845000 (power train). the contact was informed by the dealer that the recall campaign would not be honored because the vehicle had a rebuilt title. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

2016 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to brake and transmission issues with vehicle. *ld the consumer stated the brake pads were prematurely worn. the transmission would shudder/clank and did not shift properly. it has been to the dealer four times due to this failure. *js

Shudder and power loss on acceleration when automatic transmission shifts. was told is normal by dealership however it is not as it jerks heavily.

My car has severe hesitation when starting from a stop and or low speed. it has also stalled on two different occasions when pulling into a parking lot

Ford focus 2016-trans. wont shift right.

1st time while driving on street- digital message stated " stop pullover transmission overheating. 2. 7/7/19 vehicle transmission will not go into reverse and went in out drive with hesitation-clutch broken 3. 8/17/19 while stationary transmission would not go into gear. clutch and seal broken

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle jerked, lunged forward, and lost power without warning while the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to felix sabates ford lincoln (7601 south blvd, charlotte, nc 28273, (980) 224-5854) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: cas-22244697. the failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

After the original recall to repair the stuck canister purge valve my vehicles fuel gauge is not accurate i run out of gas at 1/4 tank or 135 miles to empty. when filling up on fuel my vehicle will not start properly when attempting to start the vehicle after refilling the fuel tank to full. this is not a one time issue this is a ongoing issue that happens many times a month. transmission is jerking and makes noise and the dealer tells me this is normal when i know it is not. ford has told the dealerships to tell owners of this vehicle it is normal so they are force to lie per company instructions. this vehicle and all other like it should be sent to the dealers for buy back.

I have ford focus se trim 2016. iwas driving as normal with 30mph speed and suddenly rpm raises to 4000 rpm the transmission was on d position but car won't drive forward, a message appears on screen ' transmission fault stop safety ' i stopped the car and turn it off the turn it on again tried to use reverse r but it's not working and d is not working and keeps showing me this notification about ' transmission fault stop safty' & ' transmission overheated..' the car has only 40000 km so i took it to the authorized dealer in iraq ' al kasid ' they checked it and told me that there is a problem in the clutch and ball bearings of the dct and it's not covered by the company and you have to pay for repairs but i know that ford done some recalls for the ford focus with dct transmission (powershift) but they said you car is not included.

While driving on the freeway at speeds around 65-70 mph, the transmission slipped into neutral and the vehicle lost the ability to accelerate. pressing on the gas would rev the engine up to 4-5k rpms. i was able to coast to the shoulder but was terrified of being struck by a large semi truck behind me until i could get to the shoulder. i put the car in park and then re-engaged the transmission and it worked sporadically until i could get to the next exit. i pulled into a parking lot and turned off the car. turned it back on and the reverse wouldn't engage. i drove the car to the ford dealership. on the way there, the car would jolt forward in an intersection, only to slip into neutral while in the middle of the intersection. this slipping into neutral happened two or three times on the way to the dealership. also, when coming to a stop, the gears would shift automatically into a lower gear prematurely which resulted in the vehicle coming to a faster stop than was expected.

The transmission sputters and shakes and makes a grinding noise. i am fearful that it is going to fail and cause a severe accident injuring myself or someone else. this is a ongoing problem. the dealer said this is normal for this car. i first took it in around 17,000 miles. it is only getting worse. the dealer initially told me that ford was aware of this problem and would fix it. now they will not honor there word and say it is out of warranty.

Sever shuddering when shifting, especially from 1st to 2nd gear; pre-shifting at low rpm's and slipping gears; stalling and near-stalling when attempting to accelerate or when on an incline; back seats come unlocked and fly forward when you brake hard- contrarily the front seats fly back when accelerating . ford demands payment for estimate/diagnostic even though they are well aware of the problems with this line of vehicle. extended warranty was offered, at a significant charge- should be free!!!. these problems have been ongoing since i initially purchased the vehicle.

I had the transmission clutch replaced one then took back because of the hesitation started again before warranty was up took back to len stoler dealer nd they told me that the hesitation was within the threshold. now the hesitation is worse with grinding sound and they tell me the warranty is up nd i would have to pay.
