Problems with 2016 Ford Focus POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2016 Ford Focus starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 40 467 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2016 Ford Focus

May 30 2019 my car cut off from driving in the of the middle of the highway call road side told i'm stuck in middle of the highway can't move, they'll be a hour, tow directly to the dealer where i brought it and get car service they found its the clutch had it fix already maybe a year ago, i purchase premium care warranty ask to a safe vehicle until they can fix my that it was on back ordered two weeks give back my not fix told me it's safe drive i feel is unfair. also there's a lawsuit about problems with ford.

Since i purchased my 2016 ford focus se the automatic transmission has been slipping, stuttering and high rpms during gear changes but will not accelerate properly. i was attempting to merge from an on-ramp onto a major highway and upon attempting to accelerate to merge the rpms were very high but the car would not accelerate. at this point i am on the highway with traffic gaining at an alarming rate which caused another vehicle to swerve to avoid hitting me from behind. this is not my first encounter with this issue but the first time i actually felt i was in a life threatening situation. this also affects my fuel economy which is a nominal issue as compared to the fact i no longer feel safe with my two children in the vehicle. step up ford before there are major accidents due to this issue.

Transmission will not shift from 1st to 2nd, vehicle is only 3 years old 55k miles on it.

Transmission/clutch is easily heated and starts to grind when within low gear (10-30 mph). when its cool it operates normally. it feels as the entire car wants to stalls completely, the car shakes uncontrollably. even the handling is suffering while this happens. i reported this issue to my ford dealer and ford corporation. the dealer said it was normal, which i know it isn't. and the ford corporation hasn't responded to any of my contact attempts over the last 8 months.

The transmission shudders when trying to accelerate. the car jerks and sputters so bad that for fear of getting in a collision we have to wait for all traffic to clear when making a left turn at an intersection. very unsafe for my family! i was not this bad on the test drive and the sales man told it the clutch plates needed to be broken in!

I bought this 1996 ford focus se a year ago and the transmmison slips on cold morning and than it slips all the time now and it only has 60000 miles on it

I was not told about the known defect at the time of sale. shortly after driving the car after purchase, i called in to have it serviced. the car has trouble accelerating most times going up hill but also on flat. i was told then that this is a known issue and will be an going problem. when asked why i wasn't told prior to buying i was told by the head of service that this is business. i've tried to get it fixed three times, each time has been unsuccessful . i have another service appointment dec 4. i have children and worry about their safety. my car has also stalled three times when the car wasn't on e. i was parked each time it stalled. there are times when driving it feels like it's going to stall.

2016 ford focus titan automatic transmission: the transmission has caused the vehicle to lose acceleration and has slipped into neutral. at 1 point the display/monitor turned white with a small car in the center. the car was moving forward and on city streets when it slipped into neutral. this has happen at least 4 times since ownership.

The transmission of this vehicle has had a consistent problem of being erratic and requires constant very particular pressure on the gas pedal to avoid shuddering and shaking when accelerating which when it happens makes the car very difficult to safely control in any type of traffic since other drivers do not anticipate the lurching and staggering from the car unless they happen to note the ford emblem and are aware of the safety problems facing all focus drivers of the affected models. i have found the issues manageable by assertive manipulation of the gas pedal during acceleration and gentle and gradual application of the brakes when possible to offset the dangerously inconsistent acceleration and the tendency for car to misshift when slowing down. i'm absolutely appalled to discover that this is not an isolated situation but is typical of most if not all 2012-2016 it is inconceivable to me that ford was aware of this life threatening malfunction in their products and instead of solving or addressing it sold cars to unsuspecting public on the basis of the their good name and reputation as a quality american manufacturer. i also had to have the car serviced at hertich ford of milford delaware for a separate issue involving fuel system sensors which caused the fuel gage to be inaccurate and caused my vehicle to stall several times due to a vacuum created in the gas tank, which was fixed by the recall work but again caused a potentially dangerous situation for myself and passengers. apparently there is another recall for the fuel system error which i have not been able to schedule as yet. to whom it may concern and anyone reading this do yourself a favor and buy chevrolet or toyota two brands i can highly recommend. thanks

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving 11 mph in first gear, the vehicle vibrated violently. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 66,500.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. when the vehicle was placed into park, it moved backwards. the contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 18v471000 (power train). the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was unable to be diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

The transmission clutch sticks and if not repaired car will stop running; car dealer stated it will be over $2200 to be remedied. this happens on the roadway while driving: car hesitated before going into gear. even when i'm motion it will back down and slow up. the ignition over years and needs to cool down before the car restarts.

As i was on my way to work driving on the freeway going 67mph on cruise control i was in the 2nd lane in from the right . i felt something bumpy underneath my feet and as i lowered my radio i heard a scraping sound and then it felt like something went underneath my tires and i heard when it pulled and broke the front grill made me swerve thank god no accident. as i was pulling to the right it felt like i was dragging the panel and parts of my bumper. sure enough the underneath panel came off and that's what created the whole body damage.

Hi, i notice shuddering in my vehicle when i accelerate form completer stop. i had this problem since i bought the vehicle 3 years ago at 24000 miles. i assumed its because of sudden acceleration that the wheels are slipping. but after reading the news about transmission problems in other ford focus, i believe the problem is transmission related. i consulted a mechanic on this and the associated ford dealer informed me that the there was a warranty extensions for vehicles built till nov 5th of 2015. my vehicle was built on dec 21st of 2015. i already drove the vehicle for 85000 miles. i donot want to be burdened with expensive repairs once ford decides later to extent the warranty to 100000 mile and i donot qualify. hope someone can help me in this matter. the shuddering happens at random and i am at a loss to explain why. under rainy conditions shuddering at the 4 way intersection was also noticed and can be dangerous if it happens again.

When accelerating from a stop, transmission/engine stutters making the car shudder at low speeds. delayed and inconsistent acceleration noted during shuddering episodes. this happens every acceleration under normal driving conditions. if accelerator is advanced more rapidly, shuddering not noted. car only has 49,000 miles on it. i have taken the vehicle to the ford dealer for this issue. a transmission part was already replaced once which seemed to solve the problem at first. the problem reappeared approximately 2 months after repair.

Has happened multiple times! vehicle shakes and shudders when accelerating on city streets. vehicle shudders and then shifts hard (automatic transmission) sometimes while on flat roads, sometimes going up hills. only happens while accelerating. drove off the lot with vehicle at less than 100miles, under 30,000 now over 2 years later.

The transmission slips and makes noise - i've taken it to 2 different ford dealers and they say there is no problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle accelerated on its own after the contact's foot was removed from the accelerator pedal. also, the vehicle rolled backwards and the transmission slipped and shuddered when switching gears. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not towed. the vehicle was taken to blonnell ford (353 cambridge st, winchester, ma 01890) where the transmission was serviced; however, the other failures were not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 35,000. the vin was unknown. *tt consumer is asking to cancel request. *jb

The transmission slips under load and shakes the vehicle badly. it has currently been to the dealership twice for this repair. this occurs most frequently under acceleration and gets worse with increased load.

The transmission slips and shudders when starting from a complete stop and accelerating after slowing down on a city street.

Vehicle fuel gauge is off by 50 miles + - 10 miles. vehicle stalls after filling fuel take to full level. engine check light stays on solid after the first time the vehicle ran out of gas. transmission is loud and grinds when making turns and has a jerking motion when increasing and decreasing speed.

Driving to work all instrument lights came on, rpm and speedometer dropped to 0, milage turned to -----, followed by message steering assist failure, followed by transmission failure service now message, i pulled over to the side of the road. turned off the engine to see if messages would clear. would not restart, not in park message came on. i disconnected the battery to try to reset the car, car started and allowed me to shift into park, but would not shift into drive. i turned off the car and disconnected the battery a second time. started the car put it into drive the car moved all instrument lights except the engine light went off. drove the car to the dealer. the dealer found the following codes u1013:00:68 & u0101:00:68 replaced the tcm all codes were cleared. they road tested it to verify it was fine. a week later this all happened again, except i was stopped. i turned off the car, it would not start a new message ignition failure came on. i had to have the car towed to the dealer where it has been for 2 days. no update as to what is wrong.

Ford focus 2016 is transmission is still experiencing problems as previous fords models in category, including engine slips, shuddering , stalling and not changing gears properly, create hazards, im constantly battling to drive this vehicle, and it doesn't even have more than 20,000 miles on it, i have almost been in a numerous amount of recks on the highway, or even leaving my house because of this car, i constantly fear for my safety within this vehicle, and i know its a matter of time before something happens, im stuck in this vehicle and nobody has the answers. today for example i was leaving my house i stoped at a stop sign to take a left it was morning traffic, i take a turn in an appropriate manner, but the rpms jump to 4 almost 5, and the car starts to violently shake and it stalls briefly in the middle of both lanes and makes a shuddering noise as i accelerate more to get out of the way, it shakes more and jumps forward in a jerking motion, i was almost hit by a car!! this car has a clean record, no recks or anything and properly taken care of!

My 2016 ford focus & its "powershift" transmission shudders when accelerating. on thursday oct. 4, 2018 while driving on the freeway the car shuttered then stalled as i was attempting to accelerate. i purchased the car at the end of january 2018, brand new and have put 29,537 miles on it. i am being told that the clutch system will need to be replaced and it is currently in the shop. i previously owned the 2012 ford focus which had a similar issue and had to have the chip associated with this transmission replaced numerous times. while the sales staff told me this issue was resolved and the newer transmissions do not have the same problem, i have been told by the service department that the issue with the 2012 ford focus transmission was never resolved and this is the same issue. i consider this incredibly unsafe as my 2012 broke down numerous times in traffic and on freeways, leaving me stranded until it decided to "reengage" and allow the car to go in a forward motion. thankfully i was able to get to the shoulder each time and wait for the transmission to reengage so i could get it to the dealership for diagnostics. if the 2016 transmission has the same issue, i am concerned that eventually it to will leave me or some other driver on the side of the road or worse stall while at a high rate of speed causing an accident.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. the contact stated that the transmission was malfunctioning. the dealer (kearny pearson ford, 7303 clairemont mesa blvd, san diego, ca 92111, (858) 560-5544) repaired the transmission control module back in october of 2018, but the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. the contact was able to slowly pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed back to the dealer. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline) after the vehicle was repaired in october. the failure mileage was 97,000.

Car overheated driving down interstate. car has been taken to ford dealership. dealership found no coolant leaks, but determined coolant is being burned/absorbed by turbo portion of 1.0 l ecoboost engine. motor head has cracked. vehicle is 620 miles out of power train warranty so is not covered. same issue is currently in recall for other ford turbo engine models.

I bought 2016 ford focus, total 55,000 miles on it now 2018 and nothing but trouble in the first 6 months and there after , always in the garage for drive train 2 years now, straps on roof fell off twice , trunk out of line, new tires bought at 26,000 miles . wire harness totally shut down car in 2017 while doing 65 on the highway , could not steer the car or stop it , brakes went to the floor car total shut down and this year 2018 the steering froze up at 55,000 miles, could not steer the car,, car runs like crap has power then no power, don't dare to pull out in traffic unless i have a long free space to get in, cause it hesitates, back up camera wont shut off till i have gone 100 feet forward , 2018 phone system keeps failing, new brakes, twice i almost got killed, cause i could not stop or steer the car on the highway i am so done with ford and this car.. performance is the worst i have ever seen in a car,, i could go to the garage every week cause the performance is so bad, done done done, if i had gotten killed in this car the two worst times it failed, my family would have sued ford and as far as i am concerned they should have taken the car back, would have been alot less head aches than a death law suit

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving approximately 65 mph and attempting to slow down, the rpms decreased and the engine shut off. in addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. the contact also stated that the vehicle would shut off while attempting to accelerate from a stop. the failures recurred several times. the contact called coughlin ford of pataskala at 740-967-2085 (located at 9800 worthington rd, pataskala, oh 43062) and a diagnostic test was recommended, but not performed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and advised the contact that the vehicle was safe to drive if the check engine indicator was blinking. the contact was also informed that someone would call back. the contact was not called back and he stated that the check engine indicator did not blink. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 51,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

When i am in park my driver side floor is shaking and when i'm at a stop light and begin to go my car jerks going from 1 to 2 and it also jerks when i try to pick up speed on the highway.

My vehicle started shaking during acceleration jump during deceleration. check engine light came on and also transmission failed warning. vehicle stopped changing into final gear and prolonged other shifting so to 3500rnpir more.these actions occurred on regular streets and highway as well.

When accelerating from a stop, the transmission does not engage right away, but appears to slip, and it makes a noise which i would describe as a grinding noise, and it shudders slightly. it also sounds like the teeth in the transmission gears are not engaging smoothly, thus resulting in the noise referred to. the noise and shudder does not occur in every instance when accelerating from a stop, but it does it often. i took the focus in to a dealer in my area in november 2017 and the determination was that there were no software updates available and that "no concern was found at this time." i disagreed with that finding, but i had no choice but to continue to drive the vehicle. the problem has been ongoing, and i tried to make an appointment at the dealer in january 2018 to have them look at the vehicle again, but they told me their transmission guy was out for two weeks. my wife is the primary driver of the vehicle, so i am not always aware of what is happening with it, but she told me today that the car was making a grinding noise again, so she and i took it for a short drive and i discovered that it is once again the transmission not engaging properly and shuddering with the grinding, scraping sound. i will be taking it again to the dealer at his next earliest appointment time, which is not until sept. 4. the problem referred to happens on city streets and highways when the vehicle is stationary, and one begins to accelerate.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while accelerating from a stop light, the engine revved, but the vehicle failed to move. the contact was able to drive at a low speed while the vehicle shook while accelerating. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the failure was covered under the vehicle's warranty. the failure mileage was 16,800.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving between 5-20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact had to turn off the engine, restart the vehicle, and drive slowly. in addition, the transmission indicator illuminated and "warning car is to hot" appeared on the instrument panel. the vehicle had to be pushed back to the contact's home during the last failure. the vehicle was taken to tasca ford (250 webster square rd, berlin, ct 06037, (860) 828-3546), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer refused to assist and stated that the contact caused the failure. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 76,000.

My car has had transmission problems since 20k & has run out of gas on me twice & left me stranded on the side of the road. clutch & several sylenoids have been replaced several times. i have reatained a lawyer for help with my issues with this car.

Whenever i take off from a stop my car shakes and shudders so bad. it's done it ever since i i bought the car back in 2018. i was not made aware of this issue. if i would have known my car was going to have this many issues i wouldn't have bought it. the transmission shifts so rough even in high gears.

Transmission recall and buyback.transmission problems, took to redwood ford for repairs. transmission recalled and qualified for buy back after we moved. case worker sent paperwork and check to sanderson ford in healdsburg. sanderson refused to process buyback. transmission still acting up. caseworker sent paperwork to redwood ford in ukiah. 3 weeks later redwood ford says they have paperwork but no check. caseworker said she had check sent 3 weeks ago. messages left with caseworker and other complaint departments in ford corporation with no response. transmission worse. car will not always accelerate when pedal pushed down. been working with ford caseworker for many months!

Transmission slipping and rattling when shifting between lower gears

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, the vehicle lunged forward and hesitated to accelerate. no warning lights illuminated. ordus ford, inc. On my 2016 ford focus sedan automatic, i am experiencing shuddering shifting from a complete stop. i counted the shifting points when i accelerate the car. the car shudders from 1st to 2nd gear. i have tried to let the car shift on its own instead of forcing it to shift but the car will not shift.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. when the vehicle was started, the fuel mileage displayed 50 miles when the tank was halfway filled. the contact also mentioned that the speedometer and fuel gauge needles were rapidly fluctuating. also, while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle would not accelerate. the contact turned the vehicle off and heard an abnormal ticking noise when the vehicle was restarted. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 30,000.

The transmission slips or stops sudden when driving and is not smooth when stopping . its hard to control the brake too. makes noise.

I first noticed when i went up an incline that the transmission seemed to have a slight stutter. then on a recent trip to north carolina and was going up a long hill that the transmission shifted out of gear and the rpm reveved up then it slipped back into gear.also in future you might put the trunk button in a different place so it is not hit every time you turn off the head lights. but by the time i got back to texas the transmission had shuttered, slipped and gone back into gear many times. when i would kick the car down to get into the passing lane and pass someone it would try to stall which can cause accidents if its heavy traffic situations. and these were in highway situations like i-20 in dallas and on the road outside of areas like that. it was less noticeable with intown driving but still there.the lesser problems started approx. three weeks after i got this car and always at a street by the elementary school here in clyde because its the route i took to take my grandson to school. the major problems i had were on the trip to and from north carolina where my sister was on her death bed and the doctor told the family to get there.

Automatic transmission shakes and slips when accelerating from a stop or when trying to accelerate after slowing below 3rd gear. once the transmission fully engages it does so with force and jolts the car forward. this has happened on inclines, declines and flat roads while in city street conditions. it has not been taken to the dealer due to research has revealed ford has no real fix for the issue and will only re-flash the transmission programing in an attempt to remedy a mechanical problem. i started encountering this problem at about 10,000 miles and i am the first owner.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving 12 mph, the vehicle shuttered and the engine shut off completely. in addition, the transmission warning indicator illuminated and the transmission responded abnormally when the gears were shifted. the contact placed the gear in neutral and pushed the vehicle to the left emergency lane close to the barrier wall. the vehicle was not towed. the vehicle was eventually able to be driven to chapman ford scottsdale (3950 n 89th st, scottsdale, az 85251, (480) 420-1460) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 12,425.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ford focus. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle hesitated without warning. the vehicle was taken to roundtree moore ford (2588 w us hwy 90, lake city, fl), but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
