Ref nhtsa id number: 10787141. additional information regarding the sputtering and jerking issue. the issue is a huge safety issue. it is also extremely dangerous when driving the car. it is a hazard and i fear that i could cause and accident when i'm operating the car.
My 2014 ford focus sputters and jerks from the stop position during the initial acceleration.
Upon acceleration, car hesitates, stutters, shakes and makes a grinding noise. when entering the highway, it really hesitated and took longer than usual to get to the speed limit. hence, someone was coming up quickly behind me and was very irate with me. this could have caused an accident or something other . . . like road rage by the other driver. *tr
While cruising at a steady 65mph in rush hour traffic on the interstate my vehicle unexpectedly went into what the ford dealer later called "limp mode." the car lost almost all its power and at first seemed to be stalled. i was unable to accelerate and the speed gradually dropped. there were tractor-trailers merging onto and off the interstate, and i had a fearful sensation of going up under one. there was too much traffic to "back off" and go behind them, and i had no acceleration to get around. it felt like i was going to be "run over," and i'm not so sure the tractor-trailer drivers could even see me. at the next exit i immediately left the interstate and pulled into a gas station, turning off the engine. taking off and accelerating from the interstate exit to this station was actually very difficult. it felt like i was going to cause an accident because the car did not have enough acceleration to properly maneuver. i was not sure what happened and immediately called the service department at the nearest ford dealer. i spoke with a lady who seemed very knowledgeable about the problem, (which actually worries me because that makes it seem like a common issue), but offered no solution. she almost seemed slightly "irritated," as if it was something she had "explained many times before." she said "turn the car off for about 10-15 minutes and let the computer reset. if there is a major problem it will still be in 'limp mode,' but more likely it was a fluke and will turn off." i asked, "why did this happen? it's only six months old and i was just cruising down the highway." her response was 'yeah, it just happens.'" i personally feel like this is something that could be widespread and needs investigation. it felt like a highly dangerous situation, and is apt to repeat itself. the dealer offered no immediate solution other than, "let's just see what happens." *tr
This vehicle hesitates upon acceleration, lowers rpms, jerks making a clicking noise and revs up the rpms once it accelerates it has hesitation and is notifiable that the transmission is changing gears there is a lag as if it was a manual and the operator could not change gears appropriately. the vehicle also tends to roll in a reverse motion as if in reverse upon inclination. upon engaging the brakes there is a popping noise. the vehicle also sounds as though it has the key in and isn't turned over completely to start at times vehicle it turned off, in park, without key in the ignition, and remained this way for any period of time. this 2014 ford focus was manufactured 6-17-2014 in the michigan assembly plant. *tr
Purchased 2014 focus on 6/7/14, clutch asy replaced 11/30/15,clutch asy replaced 9/12/16, install new etb 9/14/16 (throttle body), replace battery 12/20/16, given extended warranty w/$100 deductable 11/11/16 - warranty expired 6/7/19, replaced clutch asy 6/9/19 - 7/3/19. three clutch assemby's in 5 years - very unsafe. also 6/9/19-7/3/19 replaced side door latch (safety recall) and fuel tank deformation - replaced tube asy - fue. with this many clutch repairs ford new they had an issue. even though ford gave me an extended warranty in 2016 due to the issues with my car, they backdated the warranty to the date the car was purchased. this also seems deceptive. numerous times i was traveling on instertate roads, when i pulled out to pass a semi, the car would cut out. when accellerating in the city or on instertates, there would be no acceleration when pushing the accelator. just the opposite would happen. the car would caugh and choke before finally catching to accelorate. i believe both ford and the dealer should be held accountable with all the safety issues this car has had, and continues to have.
While under warranty i was driving and the engine shut off. i had to coast to the shoulder on the expressway. this happened four times during the warranty and 6 times since the warranty expired. while sitting at a red light, the light turns green and i begin to accelerate. the engine stalled fours times and three other times it almost stalled. i took the car to the dealer while it was under warranty and only once they said they found a problem with the transmission. they replaced some small part but it continues to happen. one of the times it stalled i took a picture of the message on the dash board. it said: engine failure service immediately. i showed that photo to the service manager and mechanic at ford. both of them said the same thing: "i've never seen that before". makes you feel good about the car you bought from them.also, the rear drivers side door won't open most of the time on the first attempt. i have to pull the handle two or three times before the door will open. for replaced some part on the doors because of a recall but that didn't fix the problem. it still does it. this posting asks you to specify the date of occurrence. it has happened so regularly now there are too many dates to list. i lsted may of 2014 when i bought the car. from then on it has had problem after problem after problem.
This issue started may of 2014 when my vehicle was at 13,000 miles. when at a stop light as i release my foot from the brake the car will shake in idle. once i press on the gas the rpms will slowly go to around 2000 rpms. at this point the entire car will shake then jump into the next gear. this is highly unsafe as the car will jump forward. i have almost hit several vehicles in front of me because of this issue. luckly nothing has happened yet however the dealership says it is operating within normal parameters established by ford. i have taken it in on two occasions and am going to a different dealership for a second opinion. from my discussions with ford's customer service the problem cannot be fixed as nothing has been diagnosed. if they would drive the car for more then a couple miles they would feel the issue. i do not feel safe in my brand new ford anymore. this issue has continued to occur on a daily basis. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate, lunged forward, and stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the gears were difficult to change over into second and third gear. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they replaced a seal within the transmission but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who replaced the clutch but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who replaced the clutch a second time and a fuel vacuum line but the failure recurred. a fourth occasion, the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced a third time, however the part was on back order. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 16.
This vehicle has trouble accelerating. when at a stopped position or driving at low speeds and you try to accelerate the car sputters, jumps, and almost stalls out. this is extremely unsafe and increases the likelihood of being hit from behind by another vehicle. we have had this vehicle back to the dealer three times. they are either very inept or just aren't concerned about actually fixing this issue. my daughter took the vehicle in once and they told her she had to drive the vehicle for 1000 miles and the car car would fix itself. my sister owns this same vehicle and is having the exact same issue.
I have had problems with my car ever since i bought it brand new. i have taken it back to the dealership so many times but nothing has been done about it. i feel unsafe driving this car.
The vehicle has idle problems so i took it in 1 mount after i bought the car ford said they fixed it but 2 mounts later same problem the car actually jumped speed all the sudden and ran into divider the bumper was wrecked i took it to ford dealer in san jose they took the car in again i try to get another car because it's not safe but ford denied me ,i have so much issue with ford vehicle i had 2 ford diesel trucks with 6.0 engine i spent around 8,000 thousands dollars fixing it now my brand new car nothing but problem. i hurt my neck when i hit the divider but all i ask is ford to back up there mistake on vehicles i also bought a new f150 that truck runs great back in 2001. i just don't want to drive that car no more it's very dangerous. good thing my kids was not in the car that day.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
While driving on the freeway the car began to decelerate, gas pedal was non responsive. traveling approximately 60-65 mph in 5th gear. deceleration occurred in 5th gear. was only able to maintain speed in 4th gear, but was unable to go any faster than 50- 55 mph with gas pedal to the floor. vehicle displayed some shuddering and slight sputter effect. if vehicle was placed back into 5th gear deceleration would continue. tachometer showed 3000 rpm regardless of gear placement. no warning lights, or check engine lights. two days later vehicle had the same symptom but only momentarily. *tr
My car has several issues which are not safe to drive with and dealership cannot fix them: 1. vibration on the brake pedal when i let the car go from a stop before pushing the gas. 2. transmission is jerky when i accelerate, it seems to stop, go back and forth, as if somebody's pulling me back 3. antifreeze smell when i turn on the ac (have a headache) *js
The car does not shift correctly it sputters when accelerating. when accelerating it doesn't shift properly like its not getting enough gas. also when you are sitting in traffic and go to accelerate it jumps forward. this car also has died while driving as it is shifting gears. even though there is a date at the bottom this has been like this since i purchased it. i was told by the dealer its the way i drive it the computer shifting has to get use to my driving habits.
