Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving 25 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact also noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust of the vehicle. the dealer diagnosed that the gasket on the fuel tank seized, which caused limited amount of fuel to enter the engine. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. the vin was not available.
I purchased this focus in september of 2013. little did i realize that this was probably one of the worst mistakes i made in my life thus far. i didn't even have the car 3 months before the transmission issue started happening. i don't drive erratic or aggressive i have taken the car to the dealership 12 times for the same issue since i have bought it, to the point that i have made friends with some of the guys there. the clutch has been replaced 4 times and the module has been reprogrammed and everything that ford claims will "fix" the issue. it has not been fixed, the most recent time i took the car to fix it i couldn't accelerate onto the highway because the gears wouldn't grab after second, then the car stalled and the engine shut off, so i had to nurse the car to the side of the road and restart it and i finally made it to the dealership. i called ford, and the bad thing is, is that they know that this problem exists they just don't want to do anything because they know that they will lose money. i finally spoke to a rep at ford that directed me towards the bbb because she found out that i was in the military, saying that the military members shouldn't have to deal with things like this because we do so much for the country. i have contacted the bbb and they finally said that they will have a resolution within 14 days from yesterday. and what is really alarming is that the only reason i found out about the bbb option is because of my military service. it is ridiculous because i know this issue is nationwide and ford wants nothing to do with it. it is sad to say like with the issue that toyota had with their cars is that someone has to die and sue ford before this issue will get resolved, unless you want to take direct action against ford.
Transmission: the vehicle has been stuttering and then unexpectedly jumping forward when pressing the accelerator since about 1,500 miles. it's been getting continuously worse since. the first incident that truly endangered my safety was when i was pulling out from a 3-way stop, it almost stalled in front of incoming traffic, then suddenly propelled forward into a gas station curb & blew out my tire. the second incident, which is why i'm filing this report, was with my 2 daughters in the car, leaving a stop light at a highway intersection. it was raining, and i was trying to get up to the 55mph speed limit but the car kept chugging and stuttering. other vehicles were going around me as my speed slowly climbed, & at almost 50 mph the car suddenly accelerated and, despite tapping my brakes, continued to do so until it hit 65 mph. i was surrounded by other vehicles, and pressed the brake harder to avoid hitting the line of cars in front of me, to the left of me, or having to swerve into the ditch on my right at this high rate of speed, because tapping the brakes cautiously was having effect on the cars acceleration. when it stopped quickly accelerating, it continued to stutter, but seemed to level off at my chosen speed. since then, its continued to stutter and chug and jump forward almost every time i accelerate, whether from a complete stop or to go faster than my current speed. it's terrifying.
Recall on the transmission. car jerks, when starting up from a stop, lurches forward. in motions both city street and highway, starting up from a stop.
My 2014 ford focus hesitate, then it takes off, when mergining into traffic it stalls, transmission seems to be slipping, i was almost hit twice from it stalling, transmission service light comes on, radio display not working
I was driving my 2014 ford focus se and the engine light came on. i took my car to the repair shop and was told that my fuel tank, fuel pump and vapor management valve needs to be replaced and it will cost 2000 dollars. this was not covered by warranty. ford refuses to do a recall even knowing there were issues with this problem
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the carbon canister needed to be replaced. the vehicle was also taken to opelika ford (801 columbus pkwy, opelika, al 36801, (334) 749-8113) and was informed that the parts for nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline) were not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.
The ford focus stutters when taking off. everytime i go to get on highway it wont accelerate and shakes. it's scary i always feel like it will cause an accident and ford service shops refuse to do anything about it even though my vehicle has been under warranty.
Car shudders sometimes making it hard to get into traffic (no power) and when coming to a stop the car sometimes lunges forward unexpectedly almost putting it into cross traffic or rear-ending the car in front of you
2014 ford focus with 45k miles, completely stock. fuel tank collapsed due to evap solenoid failure. this caused the fuel gauge to read inaccurately and the vehicle ran out of fuel while driving down the interstate at 75mph with no warnings. no check gauges light, no sel light, no codes, nothing but complete automotive failure. ford refuses to fix this known failure under warranty claiming it is not covered under the powertrain warranty (not sure how emissions equipment and fuel isn't powertrain components.......). ford wanted $900 to fix just the fuel tank, plus additional costs for the evap canister, evap solenoid, and fuel sending unit. i will have to fix this my self even though i still have 15k miles left under my powertrain warranty and this is known failure from ford (they have tsb's for their techs to follow for this very specific reason!!!!!!). unacceptable
The car was driving rough and stalled while idling at a red light in a left turn lane on a 6-lane state highway. it wouldn't restart. i had to have it towed to a nearby mechanic who discovered that the fuel pump was bad and had to be replaced.
First problem was the car shuddering and jerking. ford garage, repair some transmission seals, programming, replaced fuel tank, fuel pump and engine wire harness repair. shortly after the car began to lose ability to move when accelerating, the engine rpm's would rev and vehicle had little power to move. ford garage replaced clutch and did programming. on the way home from that repair, our care suffered the same symptoms it was brought in for. it is currently in the shop and we have no confidence in what we will get back.
This is the 3rd time my car lost power while driving with no warning.driving and the car cuts completely off. i have to get towed because it will not start. it also hesitate after i stop at a traffic light and/or stop. mostly it stalls out on a major highway
Car hesitates when accelerating, especially from a slow or stop. cannot tell if its a transmission issue or fuel related. very dangerous, causing car to buck & jerk. makes it difficult to control vehicle. seems to be getting worse the higher the mileage.
The transmission started stalling going down the highway, rpm's high without vehicle going forward. took it in to the dealer on 05/10/16 and was told there was a recall that had to do with the clutch inside the transmission. i had just bought the vehicle in march 2016 for my daughter and was never told there was a problem with the power train and i told them i had safety concerns. the dealer ran a diagnostic and said they reprogrammed it and should take care of the problem for a bit. the fix did not work. we went there today. 06/15/16 and will take the vehicle back to the dealer on 06/22/16 for them to tear down the transmission and to clean it up to keep it running. we were told it will take a while to get the part in that was needed. i complained to the manager this time. i am worried about my daughter's safety with this vehicle stalling and then picking back up with the rpm's at a high rate.
When test driving this 2014 ford focus i felt the car shudder on take off and when pulling out into traffic hesitation. i asked the salesman about this and just shrugged it off as no big deal. after purchasing the auto i had to return to the dealer in parsons, ks. and was told it was the way i was accelerating. no way there is something wrong with this vehicle. after 3 different returns and work done it still does the same thing. i am 82yrs old and do not feel safe driving this car. ford motor knew they put out a faulty vehicle but sold it anyway. they extended the warranty to 100000 miles but each time you return for service they say they can't do anything unless the engine light is on. ford supposedly put out a notice to repair these cars when they came in on 7-12-2019 to 7-19-2019 but when i called i was told by the service manager he knew nothing about this and could only do anything if told by ford. i contacted pittsburg ford on 7-19-2019 and asked to speak to the service manager but unable to locate him so i left my name and phone number and have yet to hear from him. this happens when driving, pulling out into traffic and when driving on the highway. on occasion the transmission slips/
I have the same "shuddering" issues as many of these other complaints. i have had the transmission reprogrammed several times and the issue goes away temporarily and then comes back. worse, the vehicle has stalled while driving on the highway twice. i thought the first time was a fluke because i was able to get going again, but after the second time i had it towed to a dealer. they started the car and let it run for an hour, then plugged in the computer, and called me and said they didn't find anything wrong with it. meanwhile i see several recalls online related to engine stalling related to electrical signals and fuel pump issues. while my car doesn't have any outstanding recalls right now, i can't help but believe this is the issue. i drive over 300 miles each weekend on busy highways, and now i have a car payment on a vehicle i can't drive because no one can fix it and the problem is still there, a huge safety hazard! i will never buy a ford again, and i'm selling my stock.
Throttle body assembly has been replaced 3 times along with the pedal and the car keeps breaking down. complaint has been filed with ford and they refuse accept any liability. i broke down 3 times doing 70 miles per hour and almost got into a serious accident. each part we rec'd has been defective and will only work up to a certain mile and then the car shuts off . i understand that in 2013 they had the same issue but also refused to do national recal. we waited over 30 days for the part to have it crap out again. i was told this part was on national back order as the entire country was oos. to only have the part replaced 3 time.s
When starting the vehicle it has a 'hard start' and idles extremely rough for a car with only 18200 miles. it has done this since i purchased it in june 2014. i've had enough cars to know that this is indeed not "normal". it feels like the idle is not set right and it vibrates enough that you can feel it while in park and idling. i was told by the service manager who is obviously not a mechanic that this is 'normal' for the 4 cylinder engine to vibrate. also the car continuously shudders, lurches and loses power on acceleration as a result of a faulty transmission. clutch assembly was replaced at 9300 miles. note to everyone, upon taking the car to the garage for the fuel pump recall in dec 2015, the car had to be put in the garage again in jan 2016 for the purge valve to be replaced, which resulted in my tank becoming deformed (deformed means it shrinks, but no one bothered to explain that to me). within a month (after 4 repeated trips to the garage for the same issues: distance to empty calculations and miles per gallon were all over the place, no gas mileage to speak of but each time was told that when diagnostics were performed my car was getting 35 mpg). however, when i put gas in it, i had a 12 gallon tank before purge valve was replaced in jan 2016, 9 gallons was all it would hold and the gauge showed full. the the car used 1/4 tank of gas to drive 27 miles. the vehicle is still shuddering at a stop light & lurching when accelerating and feels as though the tires are grabbing for traction. but it is within 'specs' according to the technicians. i have had the following replaced: 2nd fuel tank; 3rd fuel pump; 2nd purge valve; and 2nd clutch assembly and the car isn't even 2 yrs old yet and has under 20,000 miles. it is a road hazard. i've had it to 3 different garages and still no resolution. contacted ford (dont bother), i have since contacted the bbb.
The car hesitates every time you try to accelerate. it does this when you are stationary and first starting out and when you are already in motion. sometimes it's so pronounced that i'm afraid it's going to stall completely. this has happened since the 1st day i bought it and the dealer where i bought it said there was nothing wrong with it that's the way it's supposed to be. something about a different kind of transmission.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v005000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.
My car has been a problem since i purchased it new in december 2013. it would make a loud grinding noise, slip when shifting or when downshifting to come to a stop, bog down when taking off and also jerk when shifting after taking off from a stop. i've taken it to the ford dealership several times for the issues and they fixed the clutch once but even since then it still has issues shifting. also since then i've had to replace the fuel pump as there was a recall on it for my car which the dealership was surprised by because it was the first of this recall they had seen for this car. i've also called ford headquarters twice personally to see about a buy back or trade deal and they said they could do nothing for me at this time. this car is a brand new, junk, safety hazard and needs taken off the road but ford will do nothing. i'm disabled so if it causes a crash i will die instantly and then they will have a big lawsuit on their hands from my family. i've also contacted attorneys and am part of the class action lawsuit for this car as well as speaking to a lemon law attorney. all they would have to do is step up and except responsibility for this and make it right but they won't do anything.
I received notice of an "important safety recall" from ford motor company in june 2015. i drive 100 to 150 miles a day for work. the dealership is instructed not to replace the fuel pump unless there is a problem. the car has been serviced at least three times since june for unrelated problems. safety is so important that i received a reminder notice in november. yet, the dealership is unable to replace the fuel pump until they can prove a problem exists. i have written to ford motor company customer support (see documents attached) only to receive the same response. ford says there are limited supplies of parts available. the purpose of this complaint is to prevent an injury. fords notice is clear that a car may stall or stutter while driving, which can lead to a crash. to prevent a crash, injury or death ford motor company should replace defective fuel pumps before they fail. your attention and intervention may save lives. sincerely, *tr
Transmission is defective. fuel delivery system is defective vehicle stalled while turning left. almost got hit by oncoming traffic
Vehicle quit accelerating while trying to make a turn into oncoming traffic. engine didn't die but coasted for 2-4 seconds. severe transmission shudder and grinding in separate incidents. has been to dealer 4 times and they can't determine the problem.
I took my car to get fixed under the recall for the 2014 ford focus, it was fixed (so they said) but a month later the problem still persists. it jerks while accelerating and it also stalls.
Car intermittently stalls when the clutch pedal is depressed. this can occur at a stoplight or at freeway speed.
I have escaped being hit multiple times with my car doing this. i have a fear i am going to be rear ended or killed because of my car. the car stalls on the road there is something wrong with the transmission our car has been at the dealership for over a month, second time on the transmission jerking and stalling on the road when you would be stoped at a red light then in motion it jerked when you increased your speed, very unsafe to drive and no one is doing nothing about it. ford can not fix the problem. should be a national recall. . not japordizing my family life for a car that stalls on the road.
Purchased a 2014 ford focus in august 2015, for our daughter who is currently away to college. she states that the car "shudders" all the time when being driven. as a parent this is a huge concern, i investigated the ford focus and it didn't take long at all to determine that there are several thousand others in the same condition, as stated earlier our daughter is away at college so it is impossible for us to take care of this situation now . this is very dangerous as several complaints reports state the car loses excelleration and will stall when being driven. please please help before something really bad happens !!!!!!!!! from what i'm reading ford is refusing to take action, also reported this to simmons/rocwell where we purchased the car and they stated that other ford focus cars that were purchased had tests ran and "no issues" we're determined yet they all reported to have the exact same complaints!!!! i need help as to where do we go from here !!
After completing a stop, when pressing gas pedal, car/transmission stutters then jerks forward. i've tried accelerating more slowly and then tried it faster with more gas, but it makes no difference. the car won't accelerate fast enough to safely make turns before oncoming traffic. i've had this new car 11 months.
I purchased this vehicle from a reputable dealership in town as a used vehicle but with only 20k miles on it. the dealership refused to let me test drive it on the highway citing dealership rules. everything seemed to work fine. one week after getting car home it began shuddering and failing to accelerate only to rapidly shift gears once it figured out what it wanted to do. when trying to enter highway the car would run through 4 gears before hitting mph causing horrible and sluggish performance. when finally get up to 55 mph or more, the car shutters so bad it is making other parts fall apart and come loose...like the steering and a/c not working properly...i have to go 80 just to get it to reduce slightly. i called up dealer and demanded they repair. dealer reset transmission to factory defaults which fixed nothing. took car in 3 more times when finally they admitted it was a clutch issue and put me on a back order list. i waiting 3 months while having to drive an unsafe vehicle but it finally was replaced. to no ones surprise the car performs worse now then it did. took back to dealer 2 more times, to which i was told the clutch has a 1000 mile break in period. i asked then why didn't anyone say that when i picked it up. spoke with service manager who keeps trying to tell me they can duplicate the problem...i asked why is it i have the problem 100% of the time i drive it but it never seems to happen when you have it.... i even tried demonstrating but they literally just ignored me and said they didn't hear anything or feel anything...i have reached out to class action lawyers for details on how to sue and get car paid for taken back so i can get a safe car....otherwise i have to drive a known safety hazard.

My daughter's ford focus shudders and hesitates when switching from 1st to 2nd gear. it is an automatic, but has some sort of internal clutch or similar device according to ford. it has been doing this for a few months and was taken into the local ford dealership for repair on june 10. the dealership said they had to order the part and that it was on back order. they are telling us almost 2 months later that it is still on back order with no projected ship date. it is a dangerous situation to have a car that hesitates during acceleration, and i'm concerned about the safety of my daughter and granddaughter when they are in this vehicle. attempts to escalate this to ford customer service over the past two weeks have resulted in no new information, no projected resolution and no one at ford corporate taking responsibility for what i have indicated is a safety issue. please let me know if there are steps that nhtsa can take to address this situation.
Death/safety risk!! once again driving my focus on rainy weather, and it sputtered and stalled. had to pull off to the shoulder to avoid serious rear end collision. car would not start for approximately 15 min. finally started and roughly idled enough to get off the highway shoulder. very frustrating. especially after spending appx $1300.00 to get this repaired and supposedly 100% fixed. completely unacceptable- never buying a ford again. glad my wife or daughter wasn't driving this vehicle. nhtsa please make ford recognize this issue and fix it!! contact me with any questions - as a quality engineer in the automotive industry, i know this is wrong!! a potential walk condition is the worst condition from a safety stance. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford focus. while driving at 70 mph, the engine stalled. the vehicle was taken a to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuel pump assembly, fuel line pressure sensor, and the ignition coil needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,500. updated 7/14/15*cn updated 10/12/2017*cn
While accelerating, vehicle frequently stalls and/or hesitates to continue acceleration creating a jerking affect until it can actually catch again or provide fuel to accelerate. this typically occurs when pressing on the pedal both when stopped/start or if in motion and accelerate to go onto the highway. this happens frequently while driving on a daily basis.
Vehicle broke down on highway and had to pull off to shoulder. tach raced and the vehicle sputtered and eventually stalled. emergency pull off to shoulder. extremely dangerous. after 45 min car roughly started, and i could pull vehicle to a safer location. very dangerous! limped the car to dealership. after 6-7 days and $1300.00 the dealership claimed i had a failed pump assembly, sensor, and coil assembly. fuel injector #4 was replaced!! * weather during issue was rainy! ** just happened again - 5/5/2015!! see report #2 - so unhappy with ford for making this a potential walk condition. people can die from this! *tr

While driving car suddenly began to loose rpm, motor quit running, could not restart. vehicle had to be towed. i was told the motor was bad and would have to be replaced, the next day was told the fuel pump was bad and was all that was needed replaced, then was told the problem was caused by "bad fuel" and not covered by my extended warranty. i get gasoline at same place, they tell me there have been no other complaints about problems with fuel. only last month i noticed oil on sides of car and the water pump was replaced, was told by mechanic at ford that the "oil and water were mixing". all this sounds a little too weird to be happening to a 2014 vehicle and i am not happy about having to spend over $500 to repair a car this new. *tr
Shudder in first to second gear losing power with engine or transmission; loss of speed and shaking and no accerlation from stop to start; loss of power and auto jumps up and down without going anywhere.
I backed out of a parking spot. when i put the car in drive, the car accelerated with out me pushing the gas pedal, i attempted to stop by applying the brake and struck another car. the brakes could not stop my car. *tr
Ford focus has had transmission replaced, and it still shakes, jerks, shudders, etc. what ford knowingly did is outrageous. i bought my car brand new. this has been an ongoing issue and i don't feel safe driving my car.

First incident car wouldn't start, 2nd incident took car in for lurching, shuddering, 3rd incident rolling back (car still shuddering) they said this was within normal specs. 4th incident have been ignoring it (because it is normal??!!) ... still shuddering, lurching on take off from a stop, also tires are making a "tire sound" secondary to transmission (most likely due to transmission issues)... boyfriend and pep boys say this is not normal that its the transmission. taking it back in on the 15th of sept. 2015, very frustrating. having boyfriend take it back in because we believe that automotive is still a sexist industry. have 2 case numbers given to me. certain it is a lemon, not sure where to go from here. hate my car.
Car jerks and shakes. especially when taking off or on turning vehicle jerks badly. i understand that is when automatic transmission is trying to shift gears. i have had the clutch replaced once already. this causes a huge danger to me because if i would like to try to make a left turn in front of traffic i never know if my car will go or resist. sons days are so bad that i just give up driving because it feels as if my car will stall. this is not what you expect a car that you've bought new and paid thousands of dollars on to run like daily. dealership, today, says it's fine. initial issues date back to august 2014.
