Problems with 2014 Ford Focus UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2014 Ford Focus starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 59 938 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2014 Ford Focus

My vehicle had been brought in for transmission issues before for slipping, and delay when the gas is depressed. since the repair i've noticed the car's transmission while put in reverse will feel like it slips into neutral. it happened while i was backing into my parking spot in my apartment complex. the transmission is also very jerky when accelerating on an incline and will start to roll backwards. this was also a problem prior to the initial repair so i don't know if this is signifying the return of the problem. in addition to the transmission problem the controls on the steering wheel are also non-responsive or will control something other than what it is supposed to be for (ex: volume + and - change the radio station or end a call). in addition to this, the sync system will either not connect to the phone via bluetooth occasionally or it will not be able to recognize the device. keep in mind that the phone connecting is a galaxy s7, so i know it is compatible. the electrical problems have been on going and were addressed in the initial transmission repairs but they were not resolved. the second transmission issue occurred again on the annotated date.

Takata recall the vehicle shutters on take off as well as it doesn't shift so the engine just revs till you take your foot off the gas and try to get it to shift like that. the clutch has gone bad on all vehicles so it keeps doing it and gets worse and unsafe to drive on freeway and on regular roads because it looses power when it shutters. it does it when turning as well as even just being at a stop light and trying to take off. cost over 1,400$ to repair

Ford focus recall. had recall done march 7, 2017. driving car at 65mph on freeway i-45 sudden lost of power like transmission went into neutral. had to get off to right shoulder of freeway. turned off car waited 5 minutes turned on car was able to drive. two days later driving car 40 mpg service road hwy183 lost power again like car went into neutral. same thing pulled off road and turn off engine. took car to dealer. they say can't find anything wrong.

The car stutters to start moving. the transmission is stuck. it takes a lot of rpm to get the car moving from a stop or start. i have had an episode where the car accelerated on it's own. took it to the dealership they are aware of the stuttering and are doing nothing for that. they can find no reason my car took of on its own. i feel that the defect in the transmission they know about. and will do nothing about it. i am just getting frustrating why they won't discuss the transmission issue. thank you.

Well on february 18, 2017 i purchased a 2014 ford focus se from lewis toyota in topeka, ks. the car i traded in, (2004 lexus) i told them how unhappy i was because the gentleman who sold it to me said he did a car fax on it but did not. i should have asked for a copy. there was a major recall on it! since 2011. i purchased it in 2016. well the 2004 ford focus has an open recall. it is against the law so i was told to sell a call with an open recall. i brought it to the sellers attention. he said it had been taken care of or that it wasn't that bad. well, door latch? driver's door coming open while driving. proven incidents. i call that a problem.

Good afternoon, my family and i have a 2 year old 2014 ford focus that we bought brand new off the lot to avoid the problems associated with used cars. 2 weeks ago in the middle of the highway the vehicle began to shudder and lose power and then eventually turned off while in motion. we had the vehicle towed to the dealership and quickly began to try and figure out what is going on. a quick google search revealed we were not the only ones. experiencing this issue. there appears to be a major issue with the focus transmission. the dealership state they can find nothing wrong with the car and suggested we drive more aggressively to solve the problem. immediately we contacted ford motor company as this is clearly a bigger issue than just my car. fmc states there is nothing they can do because they can't prove that anything happened and there are no codes. no codes=no problem. they have refused to investigate any further. then next time my car stops could be in front of another car and can kill someone. ford is refusing to do anything to rectify the issue and is putting my family and many other family's lives in danger. please help me. do a search online about the focus and you will see that i am not the only one. please. i am scared to drive my own car but i do not feel safe. it lurches forward, stops responding and shudders.

The 2014 ford focus only has one door lock/unlock button which is located on the front middle panel near the radio controls. there are no manual lock/unlock mechanisms on any of the doors - if a crash occured, how would anyone in the back seat be able to get out if the driver is unable to push the button for them? that seems like an unsafe decision for a vehicle made for multiple passengers. second, occasionally while driving in rainy weather, i have switched the wipers on to find that they hesitate for a few seconds before finally wiping the windshield. this does not happen every time, but i expect them to move when i turn them on, not a few seconds later. in the rain, a few seconds of non-visibility can be dangerous- even more so if it happens at night the next time. are these electrical issues? could the unlock feature be an electrical if for any reason the battery goes or hits water?

Rear window blew out while driving 45mph outside temperature was 35 degrees .this happened 2 miles from home residence.so within 4 minutes of driving

Clutch in automatic transmission is stalling, car shutters at 24,000 miles. car doesn't want to go up hills, and acts mine it's stalling out when you pull out. this is my daughters car and i do not feel she is safe.

Takata recall

Rear passenger door latch broke while in motion; door will not close or lock.

On accelerating car will jerk /stutter as in not go..this happens also after slowing to go through a dip then accelerating to go again ,happens after slowing to make a turn .also.happens when accelerating to go up inclines sometimes to as if it can't decide what gear it wants to be in..my car has an automatic transmission ..sometimes scared me cause will do it when i'm pulling into on coming traffic ..and car won't go.i have contacted service dept at ford and they told me this year vehicle was known for this ..i again have scheduled an appt for it to be checked ..this has been going on since i first acquired my car in aug 31 2016 ...

Recall on the transmission. car jerks, when starting up from a stop, lurches forward. in motions both city street and highway, starting up from a stop.

Manufacturer recall #16s30; nhtsa recall #16v643: door latches malfunction. recall statusrecall incomplete, remedy not yet available. ford notified consumers of this problem in september 2016 and yet parts are still not readily available. how are they permitted to take so long to resolve the issue. i don't want to hear about manufacturing issues or the large number of cars that this affects. i want it fixed!!! i don't want to endanger my grandchildren or any other passengers in the car. what is being done to resolve this issue????? i'm sick of their excuses.

I bought the vehicle in 2014 new. a little less than a year after i had the car, i started having problems with the sync system that allows me to use my cell phone hands free. it will stay paired with my phone for about 3 to 4 weeks and then will drop the connection with my phone. i have had it in to the dealership 5 times and the problem is still not fixed. i have been in contact with the regional manager of ford corporate and they are refusing to give me a buyback option so i can go purchase another vehicle that will actually work with my cell phone. it is their problem with their vehicles and they are refusing to take responsibility for a defective product.

I was driving in stop and go traffic and a notice came up on the screen that my transmission was hot and that i needed to stop for 5 min. i pulled over and stopped for 5 min. and began driving again, and within 5 min. the notice came back on and it smelled like fire. so i pulled over and let the car idle until traffic was gone and then since traffic was done, the notice never came back up.

We are afraid to drive this vehicle as we have taken it in many times for shaking and vibrating that occur at about 1.75 rpm. the vehicle feels as if it is shaking so hard that you let off the gas and attempt to gain speed again but slower. this does not resolve the problem. the motor mounts were replaced, the transmission was taken apart and checked and the vehicle still does this to the extent that i use a second vehicle purchased and have only put 30,000 miles on this vehicle in 5 years.

Yes i just recently financed a 2014 ford focus se from the dealer ship in hagerstown md after two days of driving it started shifting funny i loose power it bucks and acts like it's going to stall i have children i told ford in hagerstown they knew about the transmission problem and didn't tell us they say the transmission is junk that it needs replaced it's been over a month still have no transmission and they won't tell me why plus the car is drifting backwards i'm afraid forr i my husband and children's safety i have to travel for my work it's the only family vehicle i need some help please

The ford focus stutters when taking off. everytime i go to get on highway it wont accelerate and shakes. it's scary i always feel like it will cause an accident and ford service shops refuse to do anything about it even though my vehicle has been under warranty.

Transmission: shutters. bucks. shifts hard. when accelerating the transmission bucks and shutters which makes car to feel like it is bouncing. first time i had vehicle serviced they "flash rebooted" transimission was told to drive it 500 to 1000 miles so it can reset itself. second time had same issues the clutches were replaced in transmission which my extended warranty i purchased covered. the transmission was shifting normal for awhile but now it is doing the same bucking, shuttering action it was doing a few days after purchasing it.

Transmission "stutters" and car shakes when accelerating - especially from a stop. the last couple of weeks, the rpms accelerate when driving; however, the car feels like it is in neutral. when accelerating - especially from a stop - the car "hesitates" and doesn't accelerate immediately. these problems have happened continuously since i bought the car in september, 2015, and occur at varying speeds.

When i accelerate my car hesitate, jerk like it is getting worst. slow down when take off and while driving

My car has bad hesitation incredibally jerky when starting grinding noises transmission not shifting properly ford mechanics have admitted to knowing about the problem and has told ford that it is dangerous. hesitation when accelerating especially at lower gears. make sit very dangerous to cross busy intersections. currently don't have any pictures but plan to start recording my car.

Stalling, grinding, shuddering, vibrations, miss shifts, boggs at acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear.

When pressing the gas pedal, it shakes and hesitates and jumps/shutters for several seconds until it gets up to a certain speed. this happens on the highway and basically everywhere i am starting from a complete stop. it has also started hesitating when put into gear. my son drives this car sometimes and i'm afraid for his safety because you don't know if it's going to go or not when you pull off from a stop.

When test driving this 2014 ford focus i felt the car shudder on take off and when pulling out into traffic hesitation. i asked the salesman about this and just shrugged it off as no big deal. after purchasing the auto i had to return to the dealer in parsons, ks. and was told it was the way i was accelerating. no way there is something wrong with this vehicle. after 3 different returns and work done it still does the same thing. i am 82yrs old and do not feel safe driving this car. ford motor knew they put out a faulty vehicle but sold it anyway. they extended the warranty to 100000 miles but each time you return for service they say they can't do anything unless the engine light is on. ford supposedly put out a notice to repair these cars when they came in on 7-12-2019 to 7-19-2019 but when i called i was told by the service manager he knew nothing about this and could only do anything if told by ford. i contacted pittsburg ford on 7-19-2019 and asked to speak to the service manager but unable to locate him so i left my name and phone number and have yet to hear from him. this happens when driving, pulling out into traffic and when driving on the highway. on occasion the transmission slips/

The transmission is constantly slipping and making the car shutter and jerk when accelerating. the vehicle will not accelerate properly at times or will jerk forward suddenly. when in drive the vehicle will roll back slightly if on a small slope or hill. it is not safe. i will have this vehicle for two years this month and it will also be the 5th time i've had to take it in. the last time they replaced my whole clutch and here i am 6 months later having to take it in to the shop again. they keep saying that it's "normal". i honesty see nothing normal or safe about this vehicle.

My vehicle hesitates when taking off from at a stop light or stop sign. when on the high way my vehicle does not transiission from 20mph-60mph smoothly. vehicle jerks and shakes. it is scary because i ride around with my todler and i'm afraid someone will hit us because my car stalls. recently got the transmission module replaced at ford delarship but issue is not resolved. i have 24,400 miles. bought vehicle brand new. long trips are not smooth not even from school, work and back.

I bought a 2014 ford focus se july 2015 since its been in and out of shop my steering wheel is getting tight while driving were i can not control plus hesitation rolling back words shuttering jerking it iv had the steering rack replaced tierods nothing worked then i got a recall letter on the tcm it needed 2 be updated did that still didn't help took it back the tcm needed to be replaced so ford told me it will be a couple weeks but i can drive it and the tcm or trans has nothing 2 do with the steering finally got the tcm replaced few weeks later but didn't help and seemed worse i called ford corporate they would not help at all i kept calling but same results they would not fix it with out me paying a lot of money and they would not buy it back cuz it had 70000 miles i bought it with 35000 recently i took it 2 a local shop by work they drove it told me my trans is messed up it is not shifting right and that will cause the steering wheel the mess up as well i'm afraid to drive it risk my life and my children lives but ford still will not help me at all this car has had 7 recalls on it i can not control the car i can not drive the car since it gets stuck and i feel like i get whip lash and i'm afraid i'm going to end up getting in to a accident the local ford dealer told me they put the wrong trans in it that they been having issues with the trans i'm afraid i'm a be on the freeway and its just going to quit working or i'm a loose control or i will not be able to get up to speed ford should be helping us out since there is pages of people with same issue there is investigations in to it law suits and my last thing i can do is talk to a lawyer and the news and file this complaint i been fighting with ford calling going to dealers for 6 month now and no 1 will help not even my dealer whats it going to take some 1 2 die. *tr

1.transaction was sliping had to take in got it out an had to take it in for the second time for the transaction 2. took car back cuz if i honked the horn the car would die i had to put it in park and take the key out an hit the alarm reset the alarm to start the car it been in the shop going on three times now i was driving on the freeway the car died an alam light horn go off an dies on the freeway not safe at all i had to put it in park on freeway

While commuting to work on the highway and coming to a stop due to traffic the vehicle was hit from behind at appx 50mph. my wife saw the imminent impact a split second before it happened & tried to apply the brakes as hard as possible so as not to hit the car in front of her (appx 20-25 feet away). nonetheless, the impact was too great. it totally destroyed the rear of our car and blew out the back glass. it also pushed our car into the car in front which damaged the right front, bent the hood in the front middle section, made the undercarriage pop out, and broke the radiator. there may have been additional front end damage but the hood was not opened at the time. what's worse, in all of this, the vehicle's air bags never deployed! so, my wife hit her head on the steering wheel twice. moreover, the seat back broke which created a potentially paralyzing and/ or deadly condition due to her body's momentum as opposed to the car's momentum (i.e., she had no back stability)! lastly, her knees were jammed into some portion of the dash/ steering column. my wife has sustained some injuries and we are currently getting her treated.

The transmission stutters on starts. this is the third time i have gone for repairs, second time the dealer needs to replace the clutch assembly. this part was replaced in august 2015. needs to be replaced again, part is on back order again.

Focus 2014 been in the dealer ship in fairfax..ted's for over a month now .i called 4 times and no one answers my calls or return them...i don't need the car any more since i had to buy another one..i shakes when ever you it starts moving very violently and constantly stall for no reason it's not going anywhere and have some sounds that the whole engine is about to break...the seat belt don't work all the time or the air bags offen start beeping on the dash bord...it's been a really ruff ride for a car that has less then 30000 limes on it...it's been a real problem and headache since i got it...returned it to check few time but nothing...can they pay for my car value??? or my laon??

Car hesitates, vibrates & shakes when accelerating from a stopped position to low speeds. i do a lot of city driving, highway driving, driving in rural neighborhoods. i also, on my way, to and from work have to cross a set of railroad tracks & i am so worried that my car may get stuck on the tracks, or my car won't accelerate as it should at a traffic light or stop sign & the car behind me won't stop in time & there could be an accident & i/any passengers could be injured. bottom line: i am extremely concerned for my personal safety in a relatively new vehicle - purchased in december of 2014. i shouldn't be having these problems in such a new vehicle. the first time i took it to the dealership, it was a recall, so they reset the computer system, said it would take 1,000 miles to relearn my driving. after the 1,000 miles, it went back to the shaking, vibrating & hesitating. 2nd time bringing it in, i had the manager of the service department ride with me & he felt the shaking, so, again, they reset the system again, gave me the info about waiting 1,000 miles to reset. after the 1,000 miles, it again, began shaking, vibrating & hesitating at low speeds. the service manager gave me his card & said if i had any problems, give him a call. 3rd time bringing it in, the service department had a mechanic ride with me. said he felt the vibrations, shaking, hesitation. while at the service desk, he then had the audacity to tell me that the program relearns bad behaviors instead of the good ones. it shouldn't matter if i'm a good or bad driver, the car should run properly. and now (3/21/16), i have felt the worst shaking, vibrating & hesitation ever. i felt incredibly unsafe today. plus i had a passenger in my car that means a lot to me. i really hope that this issue can get resolved before something horrible happens.

Transmission shutters badly when trying to take off from a stop. especially when the car has been driven for a while.

I took my car to get fixed under the recall for the 2014 ford focus, it was fixed (so they said) but a month later the problem still persists. it jerks while accelerating and it also stalls.

Car stopped driving on interstate 66 no power though engine was running this was only two weeks after having a new clutch for juddering and shaking and jumping forward this incident was life threatening

Continental conti pro contact 215/55r16 recalls i find it funny that within a 3 month period 4 of my 4 tires have aquired slow leaking pin holes in them. 2 of them on 9-21-2015 and 2 today on dec 4 2015 i want continental to replace my tires. ford has said its a manufacturers issue.

The transmission problems. the dealership pennyrile ford in hopkinsville ky. has known about this every since my daughter has had the car. yet just patches it up. she bought the car brand new from them. now that warranty is out she has to pay. the transmission has been in a problem in these vehicles i have been told. yet the place that sold the car to her do not take responsible or even ford motor. you can reach her at this number. [xxx] ask for [xxx]. the car was faulty when purchased. in my opinion ford needs to make this right at no cost to the purchaser. its is an on going problem. *dl information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*jb

Vehicle was losing power, rough idling and stalling while driving. took to dealership and was found to have 2 cylinders with low compression and metal in engine. ford case#7853581 engine was replaced. vehicle at dealership for 9 days. ford regional customer service manager does not respond to my emailed questions. after repair car does not start up immediately, gradual problem until 9 days after engine has been replaced, the car does not start at all. towed to dealership and has now been there for 2 days. i fear that an accident may occur while driving this vehicle and believe that it is not safe.

August 28, 2015. while heading westbound on a traveled highway; a vehicle pulled out in front of the westbound car and caused an accident wherein, the airbags did not deploy or the seatbelts did not lock. vehicle was doing about 45 mph when accident occurred.

I filed a complaint under the mn lemon law due to repeated transmission issues on my car. when driving the vehicle it is quite noticeable that the transmission does not shift properly because it causes the vehicle to shudder when shifting. the vehicle is an automatic transmission, but at times it feels like i'm driving a very sensitive manual transmission and will cause a shudder feeling at shift. i have taken my vehicle in to north country ford in coon rapids, mn on 4 separate occasions. the dates were 8/27/15, 10/16/2015, 2/18/16 and 8/21/16. the dealer has been unable to permanently fix the issue and my concern is that this has been a repeated problem with my car and that it could be costly to me in the near future. *tr

While at a full stop on an incline, my brake pedal went back to a neutral position when i took my foot off, but the car stayed fully stopped. also, when i go to press the pedal again, it is locked up. it is not locked in any kids of pressed position or falling to the floor, but in a fully unbraked, neutral position. this stayed locked for about 10 seconds before i can finally press it again and resume normal driving. this is the second occurrence of this very same incident.

After completing a stop, when pressing gas pedal, car/transmission stutters then jerks forward. i've tried accelerating more slowly and then tried it faster with more gas, but it makes no difference. the car won't accelerate fast enough to safely make turns before oncoming traffic. i've had this new car 11 months.

For two months i've been hearing a scraping/grinding noise below my car from time to time. before i heard the noise although, whenever i drove my car i would feel this hesitation in the car when i would accelerate. today i took it to the mechanic from the dealer because i couldn't take the grinding noise any more and thought that maybe something below my car fell off or something. they then tell me that it is my transmission and that the hesitation from the car is also because of the transmission. i was in shock! i only have 18 months with this car it's brand new and i'm already having transmission problems?! this is ridiculous. god forbid i waited another day or week what would have happened to my car while on the road?

While driven i had trouble with car jerking when trying to drive then error message transmission at fault and hill side assit not working. it would go for a little while then driving the message kept coming on. rmp would jump real high and not moving then it would catch and jerk and continue going.

The powershift transmission jerks and jolts, especially at take off. i drive locally 95% of the time and this is exacerbating my current medical problems with my neck, head, back and hip. i see now that ford withheld this information about what they called their new and better transmission. had they told us it does this, we wouldn't have bought it. i knew the day after we got it and i was hurting bad, and the dealer would not take it back, even though they knew this car was hurting me. i took it to them in august and they acted like they knew nothing. when i picked it up two days later, they said they made a software adjustment to make it more comfortable for me. that lasted for a day and a half and dropped the gas mileage to 17mpg in town when it had been getting 25.6mpg. after the day and a half, the aggressive jerking returned and gas mileage went back up. also, when i picked it up, they then acted like they knew about it and provided me with a two page print out of that transmission and how it works, and they claim this is normal. they also said the salespeople are supposed to tell people about this transmission, yet we were told nothing and it didn't do it on the test drive. if the car sits, it won't do it at take off, but the more you drive it, the more it does it and it is not occasional or slight. it acts like it won't even go sometimes at a green light or loses power significantly. that's how it feels to me but i don't know if it really is. it also feels like gears are grinding or something is. that doesn't seem like a good thing and like something will break down very soon. not happy at all and would like to join a class action suit. i will be seeking legal counsel for the pain they are causing me with something that i just found out they've known about for a while. this car hurts me every time i drive it, while taking off from every stopped positii n.

The rubber gasket that lines the doors expands and makes opening or closing the door difficult.

The vehicle has problems during initial acceleration from about 10-25 mph range where it exhibits a bucking or vibration. also, it seems to have problems shifting at times at the right times where you may hear a winding sound, as if it's not getting into the right gear properly. i took it to the dealership and they concede that they have been getting these complaints. they just tried reprogramming as they call it, but this has not resolved the problem. on going issue, which i will tell them needs resolution. definitely a safety issue.

When accelerating from a stop the transmission jumps, shutters, slips, since this seams to be a problem with most 2014 ford focus cars what can we as consumers do to get this problem fixed?
